Youtube daily report Sep 4 2017

Hey there and welcome to Life Noggin.

These days it seems like everyone wants to go out into space and colonize new planets.

With global threats such as climate change and other factors like a growing world population

and Triangle Bob's never-ending appetite, it's probably a pretty good idea to expand

humanity's foothold throughout the galaxies, but it had me wondering.

Rather than rely on another pre-existing planet, could we make a new, habitable planet ourselves?

Now before we begin, it's best to know that we are going to be making a lot of assumptions

here and that there will be a world of other factors to consider than what we bring up

in this video.

And if this is even possible, it likely won't happen for a very long time.

But for curiosity's sake, let's go exploring!

I just hope we end up like the rover and not the cat.

To start off, if we'd want to be living on it, we should to find a good spot in space

to put the new planet.

We'd want it to be in a habitable zone, meaning the planet should have an orbit the

right distane from its star to ensure optimal temperatures and most importantly, liquid

water/.

Too close of an orbit to its star and the planet would be a good home for the Human

Torch.

Too far away and the planet would most likely be in a deep freeze.

We'd also need the right materials to make the planet.

Our Earth has a core made of mostly iron and nickel, then its mantle, which is comprised

of mainly silicate rock with elements like magnesium, aluminium, oxygen and more.

Atop that is the crust, which has some similar materials, but throws in more things like

calcium, sodium, and potassium.

If we made our own new planet, we'd probably want it to have similar elements and a similar

structure.

We'd also want a bunch of water to form some oceans, as most of the Earth's surface

is covered in it.

But even if we can get all the materials, actually creating a new planet like Earth

could prove troublesome.

It might be a better route to make something more like giant space station.

We've already made the International Space Station and plenty of space vessels, so this

could be more in our wheelhouse.

It would still require a lot of material though and be pretty expensive if we wanted it to

be super big, say the size of our moon or a small planet.

By comparison, it's been estimated that it would take around 850 quadrillion dollars

to build a real-life Death Star.

Either route we go, we'd probably also need a lot of food, since there's going to be

a bunch of scientists and astronauts out in space working on this project!

According to NASA, their average astronaut uses about .83 kilograms of food per meal,

with .12 kilograms of that being packaging material.

Excluding the weight of the packaging material, this would mean we'd need roughly 780 kilograms

of food to feed just one astronaut out in space for a year on a 3 meals a day diet.

One thing that could prove useful for any type of space colonization is having the ability

to have a giant magnetic shield to protect our new homes.

NASA recently announced that they want to try and deploy a magnetic shield around Mars

to make the atmosphere more livable through things like protection from solar winds and

radiation.

Having something like that at our disposal could help us with a variety of space missions,

including terraforming.

Putting this all together could be the start of making our own planet one day!

Now, in reality, creating a new planet would probably require some extremely advanced technology

and there would be tons of other things to consider

Could we one day create our own, new planet?

If so, what should we call it?

Let me know in the comments below!

I briefly touched on how much a Death Star would cost, but have you ever wondered how

much space is worth?

Check out this video!

Make sure you come back every Monday for a brand new video.

As always, I'm Blocko and this has been Life Noggin.

Don't forget to keep on thinking!

Stark!

He doesn't seem happy.

Hello, Hank.

You're supposed to be in Moscow.

I took a detour...

Through your defense lab.

Tell me that isn't what I think it is.

That depends if you think it's a poor attempt to replicate my work.

Even for this group, that takes nerve.

You were instructed to go to Russia.

May I remind you, Dr. Pym, that you're a soldier...

I'm a scientist.

Then act like one.

The Pym Particle is the most revolutionary science ever developed.

Help us put it to good use.

I let you turn me into your errand boy,

and now you try to steal my research?

If only you'd protected Janet with such ferocity, Dr. Pym.

Ah...

Easy, Hank.

You mention my wife again

and I'll show you ferocity.

Don't look at me. You said it.

I formally tender my resignation.

We don't accept it. Formally.

Hank,

we need you.

The Pym Particle is a miracle. Please.

Don't let your past determine the future.

As long as I am alive,

nobody will ever get that formula.

We shouldn't let him leave the building.

You've already lied to him. Now you want to go to war with him?

Yes.

Our scientists haven't come close to replicating his work.

He just kicked your ass, full-size.

You really want to find out what it's like when you can't see him coming?

I've known Hank Pym for a long time.

He's no security risk.

Unless we make him one.

Albums By Sidemen - Mike Chimeri's Music Collection - Jazz - Duration: 10:02.

Welcome to "Mike Chimeri's Music Collection."

This episode is dedicated to the sidemen, artists that mainly back up other artists,

or tour with a band led by someone else.

I've chosen 11 sidemen and one album each.

For some, it's one of many. For others, it's their only one.

Let's begin.

The first sideman is Al Turner, the Bass Burner, who's toured with Earl Klugh and Bob James, respectively.

And I've seen him with both.

And the album I chose for this video is "Movin'," which is a reissue of Al's first album, "It's Good to Have Friends."

And "It's Good to Have Friends" is a good track.

I also like "Autumn Nights," "Movin'," "Te Quiero," which features Earl Klugh on guitar,

"Stop Watch," which features Everette Harp on soprano sax,

and my absolute favorite is "Bassin'," B-A-S-S-I-N-apostrophe.

The last two minutes are a call and response between Al and Paul Jackson Jr. on guitar.

Also touring with Bob James and Earl Klugh, respectively again I say, is drummer Ron Otis.

And the album I've chosen is his only album: "Upfront," which came out in 2009.

Al Turner is on a couple of tracks on "Upfront."

He's on "Take Time," which features Tim Bowman and Darryl Wakefield,

and the title track, which features Bob James himself and Randy Scott on sax.

Randy Scott is also "Sunday Drive."

Earl Klugh is on "St. Kitts," and another Bob and Earl connection, Perry Hughes, is featured on "No Stress,"

along with bass player Charles Scales, who also plays the keyboards and piano.

Bob James's Fourplay bandmate Nathan East-- not to mention all the other musicians he's performed with over the years--

Nate has a couple of albums out, but the one I'm going to focus on is his most recent: "Reverence," which came out back in January.

Some standout tracks for me are "Love's Holiday"--an Earth, Wind & Fire cover that actually features vocals by Philip Bailey--

Another Earth, Wind & Fire cover, "Serpentine Fire," which in addition to Philip Bailey, features Verdine White and Ralph Johnson,

"Lifecycle," which has vocalese by Nate that kind of reminds me of "And Then I Knew" by Pat Metheny Group,

"Elevenate," E-L-E-V-E-N-A-T-E, written by and featuring Chuck Loeb,

which is the sequel to "Sevenate," S-E-V-E-N-A-T-E, on Nate's first album,

and "Higher Ground," a Stevie Wonder cover, which features Kirk Whalum.

There were a couple of Stevie covers on Nate's first album, and one of them actually featured Stevie on harmonica.

I don't really like "Over the Rainbow," but I do like a few instrumental versions--

one by Richard Elliot and one on this album, which is a duet with Nate on bass and his son Noah on piano.

Sideman #4 is Mike Ricchiuti, who's worked with Chuck Loeb, and his album is "The Way I See It," and that came out in 2003.

My favorite tracks on the album are "Forward Motion," "Changes," "Embrace," which features Bob Mintzer,

the title track, which features Jeff Kashiwa, and "Still Standing," one of five songs to feature Chuck Loeb on guitar.

Chuck co-wrote the song with Mike.

The fifth sideman on my list is Peter Horvath, and the album I chose is "Absolute Reality," which came out last year.

Again, I'm just going to list my favorites.

There's the title track, "Carla," "Escape from Oakland," "Fake Out," and "Foreign Matter."

The sixth sideman is Eric Gunnison, who has two albums out.

The first of those being "Trios," which was released in 2011, but recorded in 1990.

I learned of Eric through a video Nelson Rangell posted of him performing "The Red Pill," from his "Red" album, in Tokyo.

And there's a piano solo by Eric, a very long and energetic one that I just couldn't get enough of, listening to again and again and again.

I've used that phrase before, but that's what drove me to buy "Trios."

At the time Eric recorded "Trios," he was on break from touring with Carmen McRae,

something he had been doing since 1986 and would do for one more year, 1991.

There are eight tracks on the album. The first four are acoustic, the second four are electric.

The acoustic tracks are "Later That Day," "Bronwyn Kate," "Waltz for Two,"

and "Care To Join Us," which served as an intro song for Carmen McRae performances.

The electric tracks are "Tropicale," "Roaming The Halls," "Eurasian Lullaby,"

which Eric would reprise on "Voyageur," which was released in 2015 but recorded in 2004,

and "Workout," so called because of the fast-tempoed solos on piano and drums.

Our next two sidemen have worked with Ken Navarro, starting with the seventh sideman on this list: Dan Reynolds.

The Dan Reynolds album I chose is his first: "Never Alone," which came out in 1993.

There are 11 tracks on the album and six of them feature Ken Navarro on guitar, including "Toll Free," which Ken wrote.

"Toll Free" is one of my favorite tracks on the album, along with "April Shower," the title track,

"Sunset Drive," "Blue Moment," and its companion piece, "Optimistic Charles."

Throughout the album, Dan is accompanied by the Grainger brothers--Gary on bass and Greg on drums.

Plus, there's saxophone by Al Williams and Marshall Keys, a couple of tracks with Tom Principato on guitar,

and vocals from Tom Lepson, Mary Ann Redmond, and Jeff Hall on "Long Time."

Another keyboardist to work with Ken Navarro is Jay Rowe.

And the album by Jay that I chose is "Red, Hot & Smooth," which came out in 2006.

This album means a lot to me. I met Jay after a Chieli Minucci & Special EFX show at the old IMAC--

Inter-Media Art Center--in Huntington, New York, where the Paramount is now located.

He was selling copies of "Red, Hot & Smooth," I bought one, and he signed it.

And then we posed for a picture. And as you can see, I was quite fat back then.

I fell in love with many of the 10 tracks on the album, including "Bumpin' on Hollywood,"

the title track, "Red, Hot & Smooth," "East Coast West Coast," "Bryan's Song,"

"Stars in Her Eyes," "The End of Summer," and "Everyone Loves Mia," dedicated to his mother, Mia DiStasi,

who I met a couple of times at his Smooth Jazz for Scholars benefit concert in his hometown of Milford, Connecticut.

Just like on Eric Darius's "Night on the Town," Jay is backed up by members of Ken Navarro's band, including himself:

Gary Grainger on bass, Blues Webb on drums, and Kevin Prince on percussion.

As with Dan Reynolds' "Never Alone," Ken Navarro can be found on this album.

He plays guitar on four tracks, and four other tracks have Rohn Lawrence on guitar.

Eight months before I met Jay Rowe, I met Bill Heller, keyboardist for the Rippingtons,

who released a solo album in 2014: "Find The Way."

His past and present Rippingtons bandmates are peppered throughout the album:

Dave Karasony, Jeff Kashiwa, Eric Marienthal, and Rico Belled.

Plus, there's Dave Anderson, Joel Rosenblatt, Frank Bellucci, Jim Cammack, Carl Fischer, and Ronnie Gutierrez.

And now that you know the players, let's get on to my favorite tracks on the album.

The best is "Down and Loaded," which is a Les McCann "Compared to What" pastiche.

"Bill's Bop" is my second favorite.

And there's also "Latinesque," "5 for 1," "Afrikaan,"

and the accordion solo piece that wraps up the album: "Trottoir du Musette."

I mentioned Rico Belled. He plays bass for the Rippingtons.

And in 2010, he released "The Pursuit of Comfort."

I was hosting "Evening Jazz" on WCWP at the time, and Rico sent me a promotional copy.

The album was primarily recorded in 1998, but some parts were recorded closer to release.

His Rippingtons bandmates Dave Karasony and Jeff Kashiwa appear on "Funky Cha Cha" and "Song for Comfort,"

the first and last tracks on the album, respectively.

Other standout tracks which I played on "Evening Jazz" were "Major Minor, Sir," "The Pursuit,"

"Unseen Rain," and "El Pollo Loco (Funk)."

The last sideman is Tom Schuman of Spyro Gyra, and the album I chose is "Deep Chill," which he released in 2006.

I first met Tom in March 2005 after he and Spyro Gyra performed at the Boulton Center in Bay Shore, New York.

It's always nice to catch up with him after Spyro Gyra shows that I've seen over the years,

and it was also great to interview him for "The Mike Chimeri Show" in November 2005.

As for "Deep Chill," Jeff Kashiwa's on it, playing saxophone on "Fearless Fostic" and "Coming Attractions."

Chuck Loeb is on "Redondo Beach," which Tom wrote for his wife Yvonne.

There's also "Habla Serio," "Quality Time," which was originally on "Into Your Heart," which he released in 2002,

and a cover of "Until You Come Back to Me," which features Jeff Jarvis on muted trumpet.

There you have it: 11 albums by 11 sidemen.

Let me know in the comments below if any of those are in your collection.

And if you have any other sideman albums, let me know that, as well.

Until the next episode, thanks for watching. So long.

AUGUST FAVORITES | 2017 - Duration: 5:33.

hi guys look if it's Ashley welcome or welcome back to my channel today I'm

going to be doing my August favorites and I have a lot of things to talk to

you guys about and not that many to actually show you but let's just go

ahead and get started the first thing that I'm going to start

out with is something that is kind of like an old rediscovered favorite it

wasn't my favorite in the past it was just a concealer that I was using but

now I actually use it in my everyday makeup routine and I kind of switched

how you said as well it an updated makeup routine is coming very soon is

the Maybelline fit me concealer not a new concealer I'm sure you guys have

heard of it heard of the line maybe you sit your so basically I started putting

this on discolorations spots areas before I actually put on my foundation

and it's just amazing this concealer it's great if you just have some

discoloration or just one pimple and you don't want to wear face makeup but you

just want some coverage this and some powder is awesome it's and it's also

from the drugstore so one of the best drugstore concealers I have used so I've

really been loving this I have also really been loving this newer product

from Trader Joe's as some of you may know I weekly grocery shop at Trader

Joe's I absolutely love it there they have came out with some new products

recently which is awesome keep top traditions one of the new things that

they came out is actually like matcha monk honey or something lemonade and

it's so good guys it tastes like all Arnold Palmer's half-and-half from

Arizona tea that's what it reminds me of I think that it tastes almost exactly

like that it is so good another kind of random thing that I have been my BAE is

my mason jar I had a mason jar awhile ago it was about 16 ounces I want to say

and my mom put stuff in it ruins my mason jar so I recently just got a new

one actually got from the Christmas tree shop they had a bunch of them so if

you're one of those where you live check it out they have a bunch of them and all

different sizes very cheap very inexpensive Michael's also has deals and

sales a lot on their mason jars where you can get them for a good price it is

a 30 to 33 ounce mason jars so it's about

a liter and this helps me drink my water I've haven't really had problems

drinking water I've always been kind of like a water drinker just water for the

past like two years definitely but for the past like two months I would say I

do drink water but I don't drink enough water if that makes sense I've kind of

fallen behind with that so this helps me drink my water and stay on top of it I

just do this I put a little straw in it good to go I drink two three four of

these a day so this has really helped my water intake so much another slightly

random thing I want to talk about is actually tumblr now I have been using

tumblr for years and years and years and years but I have been using my tumblr

but what I've changed about my it's become a new favorite is because I

actually went kind of like with a theme and I'm focusing more on my tumblr and

this sounds like such a millennial statement but I just absolutely love it

it's very aesthetically pleasing to me it makes me happy and I have been

gaining a lot of followers I've gotten a lot of responses about my tumblr my

tumblr is sparkles and love by the way linked down below as a way is very

excited because it's gonna be fall and it's gonna be you know Christmas and

just very excited to make a tumblr very themed they've been loving it a lot and

I'm pretty proud of it and that's really sad to say but anyway this past month I

have read so many books I've been on my reading game I read six books pretty

much I read the upside of Unruh quited by becky albertalli which was awesome I

gave it 5 out of 5 stars which is very rare for me I also read the Sun is also

a star by Nicola Hyun who wrote everything everything that was really

good as well I read fangirl by Roel finally it was good but I wanted it

to be better but I think that maybe my expectations were set very high by the

anticipation built by everybody else reading a book and how old that book is

and how much how long I've wanted to read that book also read the trilogy

that I wanted to finish reading before summer ended and that is to all the boys

I've loved before trilogy by Jenny Han which is to all the boys I've loved you

for PS I still love you and then the book that I'm currently reading which is

always in forever a large G and I'm 64% it says on Goodreads does with the book

so I think that I will finish it within the first three days of September so

that's why I consider it six books this month but I've been loving that series a

lot as well I'm very happy that I waited because always in forever Lord game came

out in the spring so I'm very happy that I did all three at once I haven't had

any books interrupt the trilogy and I really like reading books that go

together like that my Goodreads profile and everything so you could read my

reviews on those books and any books before will be linked down below those

are all of my August favorites hope that you guys enjoyed thank you so much for

watching this video and I hope to see you my next one bye

VLOG #4 - WHAT TO DO IN BARCELONA - Duration: 5:25.

Barcelona.

This pretty city where I've spent my holidays this summer.

The city with a million of little details

and so many cute little streets.

Today I feel like sharing with you all my good tips

discovered during my holidays.

Let's go?

Barcelona is a super sunny city that has so much to offer

that you can see and visit.

The goal here isn't to tell you EVERYTHING about Barcelona

but in my opinion, the things that are worth being seen during a trip there.

Let's start with Gaudi, the most famous architect in Barcelona

... here the Sagrada Familia, majestic church...

actually still being built!

And the Casa Battillo, a very strange but beautiful creation.

Interesting! But always full of tourists.

To finish, here is the Pedrera, this building you can see

in the movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona. You can walk on the

roofs, and it's very cool!

We're done with Gaudi! A place you must not miss is the Boqueria.

A street market where you can enjoy some delicious spanish ham,

tapas, fruits, juices...

Delicious moments and spanish feeling guaranteed!

But the advice

that I can only give you, is to LOOSE yourself in the streets in Barcelona.

There are so many cute streets! Just walk

watch around, lift your eyes and enjoy!

Sometimes you'll find little surprises :)

Another very cool place, the cactus garden.

#cactuslovers, this is a paradise for you!

It's called the gardens of "Mossen Costa", look for it on Google

you'll find it!

And it gives a very nice view on Barcelona!

A nice place just out of the cactus garden : Martinez.

Such a nice terrasse, feels a bit like Mexico!

For parks, my favorite one is the park "de la Ciutadella"

it's very big and super pretty !

One evening, go to Montjuic

close to Barcelona's arenas.

It's super cool, you'll see a nice architecture

almost a bit oriental. And in the evening

you can see a free light show in Montjuic's fountain.

So so pretty !

Hep hep hep ! It's not finished ! Barcelona, it's also the city of

cheap drinks, and delicious food!

TAPAS!

But also Pintxos..

delicious breakfasts...

delicious and juicy fruits...

in short : good stuff!

So, here also, some must see places

"Carrer de Blai" street

just amazing ! It has pintxos for 1e in the Poble Sec district.

The pintxos are those delicious mini open sandwiches, typical in Spain

where you just choose some

put them on your plate and pay at the end.

It's fun to do with friends, it's delicious, it's cheap..

It's just...

PERFECT!

For breakfast, I really liked

the 365 coffee shops

that are opened all week and that are super nice.

They make nice bread, nice sandwiches, freshly squeezed juices, croissants...

and it's cheap, super nice!

Close to "Arc de Triumf" there is a organic supermarket

for those of you who want organic food.

They also have good things, fruits, croissants, etc.

Without forgetting to try at least once the Valor Coffee shop

and order a delicious typical spanish hot chocolate.

Super nice lunch place : la Menuda.

They serve "crazy food" as they call it

and it's true it's a bit crazy food, stuff we're not used to

but super yummy !

It's worth going, the decoration is very cool, and they brew

they own beers.

So, my cats, on this "cafe del tiempo"

coffee with ice, I send you million of kisses and hope you liked this video!

And that you'll try my little adresses!

And that you wanna visit Barcelona if you haven't been yet

this city that I love so much !

And if you liked this vlog, don't hesitate to

subscribe to my YouTube channel, to like the video or

to leave me a little comment, simply!

and go read my blog. There is one blog post about Barcelona

where I put all the infos, links, etc. (Check the info bar)

Thank you so much for watching ! <3 See you soon!

Eric Thomas: How Do You Deal With Being Average (Motivational Video) - Duration: 2:22.

[Applause]

one of the things Eric Thomas had to do

was I remember I remember I remember I

remember when things change for me I

remember the exact I remember the moment

that we talked about steps what's the

formula for et I remember saying to

myself that I had my high school drop

out because my biological father wasn't

in my life if only my father had been in

my life this would have happened if only

my mother had not been a seventeen year

old kid she's a kid she's homeless

my mother was 25 and my father was 27

and they both graduated from college all

right anything my mother had a baby

shower and they picked out a beautiful

name my grandparents were all there I

would've been successful that was my

process then I got to a plastic Eric you

got stopped man your victim like you're

making excuses Eric like world there

those of you in this room your average

you have no business being average but

now you I'm not even upset that your

average but now you justified it oh you

come up with these great reasons of why

you can't wake up at 3 o'clock in the

morning with these great reasons why you

can't get up at 5 you have these great

reasons of why you have to do everything

while you don't execute why you don't

finish why you don't follow through

while you'll come to a conference like

this which is a phenomenal conference

and get a whole bunch information and

sitting down somewhere why why you say

your exercise and you do it for about 10

days and you quit you've got an excuse

for why your average and one day I had

to say here there's a common denominator

here yes your father wasn't in your life

but your your father doesn't not a

police officer and yes your mother was a

teenage mom but the police officer he

does not know the teacher that kicked

you out but there is a common

denominator there's one person that

everybody knows there's one person that

your mom knows that the police officer

knows that the teachers knows that the

street knows is one person that's every

he knows who's that person Eric Thomas

and so what you need to do here is say

just deal with it you average and deal

with the fact that you're not operating

on a hundred and twenty percent and then

you can deal with that Eric didn't go to

the next level

What Happened vs What's Next: Late Work Product - Duration: 3:24.

Hello, I'm Tony Mayo,

The Business Owner's Executive Coach.

There's a common situation in business.

Well, in life,

when someone has been tasked

to deliver something at a particular time

-and it's not ready.

You've probably been in this situation many times yourself.

I'm sure you'll be in it many times again.

We'll talk about integrity elsewhere,

but for today, think about this,

put yourself _in_ this situation.

You walked to the person's desk, you asked for the report,

and they say "It's not ready."

What's your automatic,

almost instinctive knee-jerk response?

"What happened?"

Right?

And the employee starts to explain, or excuse, or describe

what happened that prevented them from having it ready.

And, like a helpful, insightful manager that you are,

you start to solve these problems for them.

But _think_ about this.

When the two of you are talking about what happened,

what period of time are you dealing with?

It's the past, right?

Now, how much power do the two of you have over the past?

Zero.

Why we talking about that?

It does no good.

Here's a better response:

Go to the person's desk, at the appointed time.

You ask for the deliverable.

Employee says "It's not ready."

And, you say, "What are you going to do next?"

or "When can you have it ready?"

Now, what period of time are you talking about?

The future, which is where we're all going to live.

Let's make a plan for that.

Now, talking about the future

really involves some planning, some detail,

and also some restoration of trust.

[Chuckle] I don't think employees are children. They're adults.

But, there's some situations in parenting

that bring out into broad relief just _basic_ human behavior

that shows up in the office too.

It was a big threshold of maturity

when I trained my children to take responsibility

for something they'd done or hadn't done by apologizing.

The next step, even more powerful,

was at the end of that apology,

to explain how they were going to get better next time.

I want to be convinced by the child or the employee

why I should believe this new deadline, this new promise.

What are you going to do differently?

Why can I rely on you now more than I did before?

Because after all, I don't want my employees

or my children to be sorry. I want them to be successful.

So let's talk about the future and describe specific steps

that can be taken

to make you more successful in that future.

MEGA-VLOG 🎥 🚗ROADTRIP to...[Travel-VLOG | Drone | 4K] - Duration: 17:58.

There are still a few days of summer

And I still have some vacation days

Of course I'm not driving alone

I'll take my lovely assistant with me

SIRI: You take me on holiday?

Yay!

I'm glad.

Is there WIFI available?

Siri, listen.

This may be hard for you now, but actually I meant the other one

Alexa: I knew it ! Finally it's my turn!

Just let me download some jokes for the ride...

Alexa, no. not even you. None of you is going with me.

I mean the other one

don´t ever ask me %$§"%$for help with your email &%§$ I tell you the weather every day &%$/

We're going to Switzerland

The current destination is Lake Constance. 330 km should work for today

but not without a short break

at Stuttgart airport

I'll show you why

It's already 20.35pm and the campsite is another hour away

I don't know if we can still make it before darkness

speed up

Ok, we arrived at the campsite

lets see...

Hey, we want to pay for a campsite

You want to pay? Today? Now?

You want to check in?

I'm sorry there is no space left on the campsite!'

It's getting quite hard to find another campsite where we can stay this night

because this was the biggest one, like the man said

Lets see where we spend the night

after five cancellations of various camping sites

we finally find one

we're very excited about our first night

Especially because there sleeps a man snoring like a sawmill next to us...

first night

absolute disaster

the air mattress had no air

our neighbor has snored even more

I didn't even slept an hour

one more night like this

game over

first point on todays list: buy a new air mattress

but hey, day 2! it can only get better

it's incredibly beautiful here

but I'm incredibly tired

so we arrived at our new campsite

there are only 3 tents on this huge area

35 Euro per night

tent was built up

we use the great weather to visit the 'Coma-lake'

Cauma-lake!

Cauma-lake which is near

switzerland is expensive, but the drone-fly rules

actually there are no "drone-flying" rules

except for a few exceptions you can fly everywhere

last night was great

the new air mattress was definitely worth it

today we want to go to 'Swiss Grand canyon'

but first I'll take a shower and show you this campsite

so, apparently the campsite has an ice hockey hall

awesome campsite

today of all days i didn't have my skates with me

we made it to the Rhine Gorge

Switzerland, i like you

Hello

Hey ! Where are you driving to?

to Flims

do you pass the Cresta lake?

Na

Ya? Na?

&@€^}%]%]? ???

Ok thanks

so.. more hiking

back home to our campsite:

hiking

another

hour...

ok we're back and I'm sitting in my car because of better light

there is a thunderstorm coming

according to the weather report they announced a thunderstorm level 2

heavy rain and hail

we will see

if it gets too bad we'll have to get in the car

It rained all night, but the tent was great

no need to sleep in the car

so all in all

no big deal

I'm always alone down here

no one besides me use this locker

shower, breakfast and then we move on

did I really forget my towel..?

we took down the tent

had some breakfast

awesome tent

We stayed dry despite heavy rain

it's build up and down within 2 minutes

I'll link it in the info box

but before we go there is still this one last thing

the Swiss military has its own motorcycle squad

how awesome is that?

Find a campsite

check

Tent

check

ducks who keep watch

check

Lago Maggiore

check

we were swimming

now we're going to eat something and explore the city Locarno

Bungee jumping from the dam

Unfortunately the bungee jumping office was closed

otherwise i would loved to jump too

never ever...

we're on our way to a canyon, which looked beautiful on pictures in the internet

it's a canyon with watercourse

I hope not many people know this place

so there are not too many people

this guy is crazy

we're back @ the campsite

incredible day

now I save some photo shots and.. bla bla

the lounge is occupied

so I´m using the laundry

last night of the trip

lights off

Time to return home

Road trip is over

now we either have 6 hours of driving ahead

or simply...

where am I?

okay, this never happened before

I've to get out of here

next time I prefer to drive again

Oh, i think I forgot someone

Of Monsters and Mushrooms by Lesley Herron

Chapter 9, Entoloma

Attila pointed his jaw up and to the side, doing his best to appear somewhere between

pensive and triumphant.

He adjusted his feet, squared off his shoulders, and tried to puff his chest out.

Attila wasn't sure how much longer he could this heroic pose.

His legs were trembling with aches from running and a single bead of sweat threatened to roll

over the bridge of his brow and into his good eye.

But he was desperate to make certain that everyone had time to see him this way.

"Knock it off, you idiot.," Vel grumbled as he gave his duster a hearty shake, releasing

the dirt into the air in thick plumes.

The merc didn't even have a chance to respond when Errik's hand shot out and shoved Attila's

mask, forcefully, on his face.

He stumbled back, tripping over Evan, and landed in a heap at the bottom of the rubble

pile.

"What do you mean by idiot?,"Attila asked, his voice a little waspish.

Not even a thank you!

That ungrateful cyborg!

Attila had found the way out, saved Vel, -and- still had time to kill the worm.

What more did he want?

"I'm not the one who was running the wrong way in the tunnels."

Vel could feel a vein tighten in his forehead, and that all too familiar throb of a migraine.

He shoved his arms back into his duster and reached down to wrench Attila off the ground.

He set him down roughly, and continued to glare at him from behind his mask.

"Yeah, but only an idiot would endanger, not only himself, but those around him in

a vain attempt to show off.

Because...," Vel paused, gesturing at the pile of rubble behind him.

"...only an idiot would block our only way home and think that it's something to celebrate."

Errik moved between the two, trying to save Attila from his brother's murderous wrath.

"Hey!

Stop.

It's fine.," he began, his voice reflecting the unseen smile he was offering to Vel.

"It's not that far back to your place from here.

And, at least now we don't have to worry about Madam Whisper coming after us."

Errik hoped some of these truths would convince his brother to back down.

"Not that far back!?," Vel snapped.

Errik dropped his arms back to his side, and took a step back.

Nope.

It hadn't worked.

"It wouldn't be that far back if we could -fly-!

But hacking through that forest, it'll take days!

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but -somebody- left all of our provisions behind!"

Errik made a noise of surprise and indignation.

He was affronted that Vel could even throw that in his face.

"You told me to!"

"And since when have you -ever- listened to me?

Between you and the witless wonder here, it's a miracle we've made it this far!"

Attila felt something snap within.

You can only be pushed so far before you just can't take it anymore.

He threw his hands up in frustration.

He'd had enough.

"Fine!," he shouted, picking up his hat.

He gave it a good thumping, fixed the brim, and shoved it on his dust covered head.

"This -idiot- will find his own way to the gate!"

He gave an all mighty huff through his mask and swiveled on his heel.

He stomped off down a broken alleyway before disappearing out of sight.

Errik shot an unseen look at Vel, and crossed his arms in disappointment.

Evan added to the guilt by offering up his own disapproving stare.

Attila tried to rub the granules of dirt from his mechanical eye, but stopped when his finger

hit the glass lens of his mask.

He gave another indignant huff as he rounded the corner.

He certainly was -not- an idiot.

He was the most intelligent, the most talented, and positively the most handsome of all the

citizens in Three Hub.

He had managed to make a working carburetor out of a stick of gum, a tin can, and a broken

inhaler.

Okay, so it didn't run for long, but it had worked!

He kicked a rock angrily and looked up.

The way Errik had described it, they would be marching through the heart of the mushroom

forest.

But the end of the alleyway opened up onto a wide street, littered with abandoned vehicles

that were more rust than metal.

Dead trees lined the sidewalks along the pavement like the ribs of a long deceased behemoth,

and just beyond was the remains of a sprawling, prewar metropolis.

The remains of Harmony Valley.

Attila stepped over the withered fiberglass skeleton of along abandoned baby stroller,

and into the open.

Great fissures had fractured the street, leaving one side of the city a foot higher than the

other.

The parts of the streets, walkways, and alleys that weren't filled with debris were covered

in the same red spongy moss that blanketed the mushroom forest.

He followed one the moss filled fissures to an intersection.

Towering structures, steel buildings, and toppled sky scrapers were spread out before

him, slowly being consumed by a wide variety of giant mushrooms he hadn't seen before.

There were large umbrella shaped mushrooms that blocked out huge swathes of sunlight,

ones that formed thick hexagonal netting between the gaps in the buildings, and mushrooms with

long sweeping tendrils that looked like phosphorescent creeping vines.

They crawled up the sides of the prewar monoliths, using the skyscrapers to reach ever higher

where the wind was the strongest to carry their spores.

Through all of the vines, moss, and oddly shaped mushroom protrusions, Attila could

recognize an old faded store sign.

"Ooohooohooo."

He jogged through the street, jumping over moss filled apertures.

He was unable to contain his glee.

His anger towards Vel was forgotten as he pushed against the remnants of a glass door.

"I don't understand why you have to be so crass all the time.," Errik shot, unwavering

from his stance.

"He -did- save us from the worm."

"Yeah and almost killed all of us in the process."

Errik tapped his foot angrily.

Vel snorted.

"Even if he did, everything we've endured, up to now, is -his- fault.

And here we are, stuck in the one place we don't want to be stuck in."

"The tunnel would have collapsed anyways, and one or all of us might not have made it

out.

Say what you will, but he did stare down a borer worm while we ran away!

I just...," Errik paused, dropping his hands finally.

"I just don't understand why you have to be so hard on him, or so resistant to this

expedition."

"Because you know how I feel about this place.," Vel muttered, shoving his hands

into the pockets of his coat.

A flicker of movement beyond his brother's shoulder caught his attention.

There, scurrying among the rabble of a desiccated building, was a warbling mass of black inky

goo.

It shifted and swirled, as if it were trying to figure out what would be the best body

shape to move around in.

Vel watched as it sprouted an odd number of animal like legs and began to wobble about.

He turned his attention back to his brother.

"I hate it here, and if you could see these little parasites running around you would

too.," he mumbled, his eyes flickering back to the Unseen.

"Look.

I get it.

This place sucks.

For a lot of reasons.

But I needed more information on the gate anyways.

I wouldn't have even suggested it if I didn't have my own agenda.," Errik said, his hand

gesturing lazily in the direction of the gateway.

"You said you wanted to go home.

Well, this is how I figure that out."

Vel was only half listening now, as the lone Unseen was joined by several others.

They were spawning and swarming in a small group of twisted and horrific looking monstrosities.

They chittered and clicked at one another.

They were harmless in small numbers, but that didn't stop him from shuddering at the sight

of them.

"I'm just saying that perhaps Attila's not really a complete moron.

And that maybe, if you apologize we can all go through the gate together.

We could use his help!," Errik pointed out.

Vel nodded slowly in agreement, even though he hadn't heard a word his brother had just

said.

The swarm of Unseen had just noticed them, and was slowly advancing on them.

Evan, who was the furthest from the group, was idly examining a filth covered forgotten

doll.

He lifted it up by it's arm, watching the dirt cascade off it.

"What happened here?," he asked, turning the doll in his hands.

Vel moved over and plucked Evan off the ground, tucking him under his arm like one would a

wayward child.

One of the uglier Unseen, in the form of a seven legged misshapen rat, lunged at Evan.

Vel gave it a heft kick, sending it flying back into a pile of debris.

"Let's go find the idiot and get out of here."

"Hey!

I know how to walk you overgrown can opener!," Evan snorted, as he jabbed a tiny fist into

his captor's ribs.

Vel dropped him, wincing.

Errik clapped his hands together, happily.

He spun around for a moment, as if to gather his bearings.

"Um.

Do we have any idea which direction he took off in?"

One of the buildings in the distance collapsed in a small explosion, sending up a cloud of

dust and smoke like a beacon.

Vel sighed, and pointed in the direction of the plumes of black haze billowing out from

the skyline.

Hopefully, he thought, as they took off in a run, Attila's actions hadn't caught the

attention of any of the nastier Unseen.

"Attila!," Errik called out, looking at the destroyed building in despair.

He heard only his own voice backing back at him, echoing off the narrow alleyways.

Vel began pulling out chunks of concrete and drywall, tossing them behind him.

He couldn't be sure what he was doing, or why, as he heaved another hunk of debris behind

him.

The building was completely demolished.

No one could survive this kind of damage.

"Oh, hey guys!"

Vel froze, his hand still gripped around a sizable piece of concrete.

He turned slowly around to see Attila standing, unharmed, in the parking lot of an abandoned

sporting goods store.

He was cranking back on the winch of a makeshift catapult, a bundle of propane bottles loaded

into it's business end.

"What in the hell...," Vel said, dropping the chunk of concrete back into the pile.

He stepped closer to Attila, staring up at the giant machine.

"...is that?"

Attila slapped the side of the siege weapon.

"Nice, right?

I call her Bessie!

She's a bit hard to aim, but packs a wallop!

I'm still working out how to carry her though..."

Evan let out a maniacal cackle of delight as he circled the catapult.

He placed his tiny hands on the frame, and gave it a loving stroke.

"The damage I could do with one of these!," he chuckled, as if speaking to only himself.

"I think...," Errik said, cutting in before Vel could fly off the handle again.

"...what he meant, is -why- did you build a catapult?"

"How else am I going to rescue Brig?

I needed some hardware!

Wanna see the rest?"

Before they could answer Attila was heading for the front of the shop, beckoning them

to follow.

He stepped through the broken display window, and pulled something out from behind the register.

He turned with a smile, brandishing a rocket propelled grappling hook, made from a boating

anchor, some rope, and a modified scuba tank.

"For if we fall down one of those buildings!"

Vel followed the others slowly, careful to step over a spring loaded crossbow.

It wasn't filled with arrows, but pocket tasers strapped to tent stakes.

He could feel a muscle spasm under his eye.

Errik grabbed Vel by the arm, stopping him.

"Remember, you said you would apologize so he'd go with us."

"I did what?"

Vel certainly didn't recall agreeing to any such thing.

Errik gave a visible huff, and folded his arms in front of himself again.

"Fine.," Vel replied through grit teeth.

Evan pointed at one of the more unique contraptions.

"What's that for?"

"This one's for if we run into those pesky Un-visibles that Errik told me about!,"

Attila said, almost beaming with pride as he picked up a hair trigger weapon that was

loaded with twenty different colors of spray paint cans.

Vel couldn't do it.

Even on his best days, he could never apologize to someone like Attila.

"Leave that piece of junk here and let's go!," he barked, trying to keep his temper.

Attila turned his back on the group and walked inside the building, stepping over a broken

mannequin defiantly, muttering under his breath.

"You're the piece of junk..."

Vel whirled around, his hand gesturing angrily as Attila stomped off into the store.

"I can't do it!"

Errik shook his head and only made to shoo his brother off, who after a minute of coercing

begrudgingly relented.

Vel followed Attila into the store, and immediately wished he hadn't.

Filling every corner and rafter of the building was trembling masses of the same black inky

goo.

They pulsed and throbbed, as they began to separate.

"Attila...we need to go.

Now.," Vel said, trying to keep his voice calm but urgent.

"Why?

So you can boss me around some more!?

Who made you the boss, anyway!?," Attila replied simply, his voice uneven.

He was busy digging through a pile of bungee cords, measuring them against his spray can

contraption, and didn't seem to notice the look of panic on Vel's face.

The Unseen were separating from the masses, and began to take on individual forms.

They fell to the floor like giant drops of tar, and began to pry themselves up into twisted

animals.

Vel, more urgently this time, pleaded with Attila.

"Look.

We -really- need to go.

Now.

It's not safe here."

Attila stopped foraging, dropping his packs of cords in favor of the conveyor belt off

the register.

"You know, now that I think about it.," he started, ripping the band of rubber up

with great effort, keeping his back turned on Vel.

"I've done all the work.

Who sweet talked Lola into helping?

Me!

Who seduced the rule of the Under Well?

Me!"

The louder Attila's voice got, the more active the masses of Unseen became.

"And who killed a giant worm that was about to eat everyone?

Oh yeah.

ME!"

He finally managed to pry up the belt and stumbled back.

"All you've done is get us all tossed in jail!"

Vel raised his hands, desperately trying to calm Attila.

"Lower your voice!"

"No!

You've been a negative Nancy since we first met!

I don't understand why.

Okay, so Trash-bot demolished some of your home.

But that wasn't my fault!"

He examined the belt, shrugged, and threw it over his shoulder.

"Okay, so it wasn't -completely- my fault.

But, you should be nicer to me!

Like your brother!"

Attila finally looked up at Vel to thrust an accusing finger at him.

The Unseen were now amassed in an impressive army of countless twisted rats and birds,

crawling and screeching towards them slowly.

Vel could handle the small ones, they would scatter once you've killed a few and showed

them you weren't spineless.

But it was what was creeping out from between a rack of dusty overcoats that worried him.

It had the overall shape of a large cat, with a long tail and four large pawed feet.

But the bones of the spine stuck out of it's gooey back, and it's head was on upside down.

Goo poured form it's mouth, nose, and it's eye sockets landing in puddles beneath it,

only to be absorbed back into it's body as it stepped in them.

It opened it's jaws, and began to flatten itself to the ground, circling them.

Hunting them.

Sheer panic over took him, and before he could stop himself, Vel blurted out a hasty apology.

"Okay, I get it.

I'm an ass.

I'm sorry.

Can we go now?"

Attila contemplated Vel's apology for a moment, weighing it's sincerity, before finally conceding.

"Fine, but first you have to admit my inventions aren't junk."

Vel felt that muscle spasm under his eye again.

"They're awesome and wonderful.

You're the frigging Tesla of our age.

Now lets go!," Vel urged in a whisper.

"What's taking so long!?," Errik asked, pushing his way past a beheaded mannequin.

"We really need to try and get to the gate before it gets-"

Vel silenced his brother by clamping his mechanical hand over his mouth.

They exchanged a look in silence, and Vel nodded slowly.

He gestured towards the register Attila was standing by.

Mistaking Vel's actions for a hug towards his brother, Attila abandoned his quest for

springy cord and was ready to bring it in.

his arms opened to embrace them.

Evan peered out from behind Errik, looking around at just what Vel was pointing to.

He couldn't see anything, but Vel was clearly stressed out about something.

Then he saw it.

An unmistakable paw print in a thick layer of dust.

And then another.

And then another and they were headed their way.

"Uh.

Guys...?"

"Run.," Vel urged, giving Errik and Evan a shove as he grabbed Attila by the poncho

and yanked him out the door as the inky jaguar pounced.

The spray can ballista fell to the ground and misfired, sending gouts of blue, green,

pink and orange in all direction.

The cat took a face full of teal and roared.

There was a sudden clamorous sound that rent the silence of the city.

The creatures gave way to the chase, scrambling over anything in their path, and bursting

out from the broken windows.

They spilled out into the streets, piling on top of one another in their attempts to

follow.

"What the heck is that!?," Attila called out, breaking into a run.

They clambered over bent street lights and broken vehicles trying to outrun the swarm

of brightly colored Unseen behind them.

They turned down a darkened alley, dodging a crumbled wall and ducking beneath a rusted

ladder before exiting out the other side.

Tucked away, safe from the collapsed buildings and showing only a few signs of damage, was

a grand structure built to last.

Stone construction, four stories high with the front engulfed by a giant plexiglass atrium.

The skull of a long forgotten reptile peered out at them from behind the grime covered

windows.

"Go!

In there!

Now!," Vel ordered, looking over his shoulder to see the inky cat prowling after them, the

swarm of Unseen following on it's heels.

They ran into museum, slamming the doors closed behind them.

Attila and Errik wedged a stone slab, covered in hieroglyphs, in front of the door.

They took an unsteady step back as the door gave a heavy shudder beneath the force of

the Unseen slamming themselves into it.

The weight of the slab held the door shut and the creature tried again, to no avail.

Evan slid a dusty mop through the door handles for good measure.

The whole first level had been entirely devoted to the atrium.

It was spacious, with what was once a gleaming tiles of sparkling granite.

The lobby had, at one time, housed a forest of trees.

They were now dead and rotted away from years of neglect, creating a cemetery of towering

ghosts.

Mingling among the ghosts, were the towering skeletons of long extinct animals, including

the large dinosaur dominating the room.

The atrium rose up two stories before curving back in, creating a half dome where the trees,

and the exhibit, would have gotten the most sun.

What little light could get through the dirt stained windows was suddenly blocked out as

swarms of Unseen began crawling and sliding around on the glass.

Bright streaks of paint cut across the panes as they tried desperately to get in, unable

to break through the barricade.

But the safety glass proved no easier.

They slid off the slick surface, piling on top of one another at the base of the atrium.

"Are we safe here?," Evan asked, his tiny hands fidgeting nervously over the handles

of his knives.

" 'cause I think there's more of 'em showin' up!

Look!"

Intermingled with the lines of color, claw marks and smudged grime were appearing out

of nowhere.

Vel could see hordes of Unseen starting to fall into the existing pool of creatures.

Some of the approaching forms dwarfed the feline.

"Sure...," Vel lied, looking around nervously.

"But, we should move further inside just in case."

Even if the front of the building held, it wouldn't take the Unseen long to find the

vents or any cracked windows or broken doors.

Hopefully they would give up before then.

The barricade gave another resounding thud.

"Whew.

Well, it could be worse!," Attila said, his voice showing no signs of panic.

He had his hands on his hips, looking up at the dinosaur like it was any other day at

a museum.

Vel watched a stream of dust drift down from the ceiling as the building gave an ominous

shudder.

He turned to glare at Attila, as the ground beneath them gave another unsettling rumble.

"I hate you, so much."
