(Matt Galka, reporting) 44 Monroe is Phoenix's "Luxury in the Sky"

Arizona's tallest residential structure is 34 stories of condos and apartment rentals

198 units make up the building that was completed a decade ago

but if you live there now, there's one little problem

(Sound of shades being drawn)

(Amber Felix) they have a way to keep the door from opening any further than about 5 or 6 inches

So you can't physically go out on the balcony

You can crack the door open, but you can't fit out the door

(Matt Galka, reporting) FOX 10 has talked to multiple residents about problems at the high-rise

Amber Felix signed her lease in January of this year

This is what she was told then

(Amber Felix) We were told about the pool, because it was already closed off

They said, "oh, there's no plaster in the pool...

...because we're updating from plaster to Pebble Tech

It should be done very soon

And as far as the balcony goes...

...they said that they're just switching out the

hardware on the on the balcony railings because it's out of date, and that should

be done, also, any time

(Matt Galka, reporting) The pool, just a hole in the ground on the 8th floor

Residents were told a leak needed to be fixed, but they haven't had access all year

Amber and her Significant Other sold their house to move Downtown

(Amber Felix) We were excited about the apartment

We're like "oh, yeah, it's gonna be so nice when the pool's done...

...and the balcony's done, and you know it should be -- should be anytime. This is gonna be great"

It's gonna be so much fun, and...

Here it is, September. No pool. No balcony

(Matt Galka, reporting) 9 months later, nada. Nothing

No balcony access

No pool access

And now, they want to break their lease

But it's gonna cost them

(Amber Felix) We paid over $3,000 to break our lease

(Matt Galka, reporting) Felix says 44 Monroe

took money off the $2,000 rent monthly

About $100

But that wasn't enough to make up for the year-long problems

She even worked more than a month, straight

In order to afford breaking her lease

(Amber Helix) 33 days straight just for that over time to pay it

(Matt Galka, reporting) Rich Hill already moved out

He signed his lease in November of 2017...

...but was so fed up, he moved to a complex in Tempe in July

Same problems, same stories from 44 Monroe

(Rich Hill) The problems were the balcony, the pool

I couldn't get outside and I was led to believe when we saw the apartment...

...that it was gonna be a couple of weeks

(Matt Galka, reporting) We contacted 44 Monroe multiple times...

...and we received a written statement from the 44 Monroe Homeowners Association

In summary, the Association says the balcony railings don't meet Building Code

but the Association claims that the builder, the Weitz Company...

...has refused to resolve the issue, and there's ongoing litigation

As far as a timetable...

...the statement says a resolution is anticipated, quote, in the near future.

The Weitz Company didn't comment, saying the issue was an active legal matter

But we pulled the building permits and inspections notes from the City of Phoenix

City Inspectors first tried to look into the complaints in late 2017

but they weren't granted access at the time

When we started asking questions...

...they looked again

After getting stonewalled once more, the City was finally granted access...

...and told us inspectors, quote...,

Did not find any imminent hazards with the guardrails on the balconies

A new permit has been issued to start work on the pool again

No work had been done since at least the beginning of August

(Matt Galka) Many renters are now telling us that they want to break their lease with 44 Monroe

But they feel they shouldn't have to pay

(Elevator beeping)

(Matt Galka, reporting) Other residents have told us they haven't gotten their security deposits back

Another issue for some is paying to break the lease

They tell us the apartment complex isn't holding up their end of the deal...

...so they should be able to split without a fee

Davis Miles attorney Bob Sewell has handled these types of disputes before...

...and says the residents might have a point

(Bob Sewell) So, whenever you have something that affects health and safety

what the tenant needs to do is send a written notice, a five-day notice

And that written notice then serves as a warning to the landlord

That he must do the fixing of whatever the problem may be

If, at the end of that five days, that landlord has not taken action...

...then the tenant may walk away from the lease

(Matt Galka, reporting) Sewell says the important part, a written notice

A paper trail to verify you did everything you could as a renter...

...just in case it goes to trial

Now, tenants are putting up cash to leave, after their high-rise hopes were dashed

"Oh, it should be should be done at any time. Very soon. Very soon.

Nothing.

My Fall Morning Routine 2018 | Homeschool Mom of 3 🍂 - Duration: 13:11.

good morning everybody and welcome to the carriage house it is a cool brisk

autumn morning and I'm so excited to share a fall morning routine with you

guys it's one of my favorite times of year thank you for those who requested

this video I was so excited to do this and I'm currently working on other

requested videos such as pantry organization and more baking and cooking

recipes so those will be out soon and if you're new here I'm so glad you're here

I normally wake up about 7:30 on a weekday morning so just right after my

husband leaves for work so my one-year-old son wakes up around 6:00 or

so so my husband will give them juice and some fruit and put him in his

playpen right before he leaves which helps so much so I can get the rest just

extra rest that I may need for that day so when I wake up around 7:30 I'm very

eager to see you

so I start my fall morning routine by putting a kettle on the stove to make

the spiced chai tea which I absolutely love this time of year I've been really

loving teenies chai tea if you have not heard of them they're a healthy

lifestyle tea that formulates their own tea to help with detox and somnium

digestion just a lot of things but my absolute favorite is their chai tea it's

so aromatic and it's very authentic to me and it comes in these little cute

sachet bags which I'll absolutely love but they're offering you guys a 15%

discount if you purchase a teeny blend and I'll leave everything down below and

I'll of purchasing teas from this company because they give you this

little tea infuser for free and you can dip it into your tea but I've been using

this falling leaves tea I did get from the Amish community it's it's definitely

needs to be replenished but I use that in there but but I with this tea with

the chai tea often pour almond milk or soy milk along with a little bit of

cinnamon honey or regular honey is fine and it is just so delicious

and it just it's just so warm and perfect for an autumns day

and by this time I oldest son and daughter awake so they play with and

watch my son my one-year-old son while I set up so I didn't sit on my spiced chai

tea I like to spend this few minutes of quiet times just silently pray and ask

for patience perseverance everything I need for this I've become at home school

day and I just seek guidance to help me keep my children safe healthy and happy

on this particular day so before I go back inside I quickly check on the

chickens my oldest son which is 7 has already unlocked Earls gate which is

this rooster right here it's one of his morning chores so I just come out here

in the mornings make sure they have food and water for this day

but something happened that particular morning that was different from other

mornings we actually found a little cat yesterday afternoon hanging around her

house and thankfully he had a collar on and an ID tag on him so I was able to

contact his owners and they were so excited that we rescued him he stayed in

our little our little Morton building overnight we gave him fresh food and

water and we had this little cat hotel a little thing that my husband built a

while back it just doesn't fit in her house that it was perfect for him and I

miss a little guy his name is Oliver but so now I'm back inside making a pot of

warm oatmeal for my kids on this chilly fall morning and I've made into a habit

to just clean as I go because it just it really does make a difference especially

since me and the kids are home all day and and messes happened so fast but

effect if I clean as I go it just it helps prevent these huge messes later on

and I love adding the classic flavors of autumn to oatmeal which is cinnamon

brown sugar sometimes I even add pumpkin spice to it

and I love to add a little bit of soy milk or almond milk just to make it

extra creamy and my kids love it it's healthy it just helps them get their

keep their bellies full too for a while

so after we've eaten breakfast I fill up my large mason jar full of water that I

sip on throughout the morning just to keep me awake and hydrated and then I'll

just start making up our beds

I thought you down the motto for something know about you that day I

can still hear the shimmering sound

let's get right up walk up to Larry top we couldn't tell this guy from the crowd

and I usually like to keep some toys in our room for my one-year-old so he'll

stay busy for a while so I can get some morning chores soon

Spyder oh you're my best friend

and then they'll start getting him dressed for the day and my seven and

nine year old also get dressed and brushed their teeth during this time and

they will do their morning chores as well

my son is responsible for unloading the dishwasher every morning as well as

opening our roosters gate and my daughter who is nine she makes sure all

of our indoor pets are fed and she sets her table at night as well and of course

they are responsible for tightening of their rooms and putting dishes in the

dishwasher and things like that them so after I get my one-year-old dressed I

will go ahead and start brushing his teeth or attempting to brush his teeth

and and then I'll go ahead and start making up all my kids beds for them

we'll never be the same after that day

European on your fingers and you stay I don't never wanna be alone again

despite of all you my best friend

so now I'm ready to get myself ready for the day so I like to wash my face and do

my facial routine I use of a DAB and using a beta for so long now from like

15 or 20 years and I just make sure I get all that done I also like to put a

little bit of makeup on during the day just help me feel alive and human and I

don't like to get into the routine of just staying in my pajamas all day and

then just you know it just makes me feel really tired so I try to do what I can

to get prepared for the day I usually take a shower the night before

so it's about 8:30 now and we usually start homeschooling between 9:00 and

9:30 so I have some time to go ahead and get something in the crock-pot for

dinner for tonight so we have our potatoes from our garden this year and

I'm so excited because it was a really good harvest so I'm going to peel these

potatoes and dice them and put them into our slow cooker so I can mash them later

for mashed potatoes and I will have a meatloaf I will make a meatloaf

for to go along with mashed potatoes I'm not a huge meat-eater I was vegetarian

for like 15 20 years but my my daughter my son all my guys they love they love

meat so I want to make sure they're satisfied and I just want to make sure

everybody's happy so

so after I put the potatoes in the crock-pot I looked at the time and

actually had quite a bit of time left and my kids were playing and everybody

was happy nobody was getting upset or anything so I ended up making these

balance breaks you can buy the store but I tend to make my own so I slice up

white cheddar and then I get almonds and cranberries and I put them into

individual little jars or whatever and then I put them in the refrigerator and

that way they are ready for anybody who wants them for throughout the week and

it just makes snack time go a lot easier and I don't have as much work to do

throughout the week

I was also able to cut and wash and store our strawberries we just bought at

the store it seems like my kids tend to eat their fruit and vegetables that

they're already sliced peeled wash etcetera

so it's about nine o'clock now and doing some toddler time before my on your old

gunner takes a nap and then we're ready to start our school a

using waste material as a beautiful planter

it's a piece of dried coconut husk

first we have to remove the inside coir fiber

to remove the inside coir fiber

just hold husk and peel off the coir

if peeling is too hard

spray some water in inside of the husk and leave it for a few minutes

after few minutes we can peel the coir easily

do not soak the full husk in water

because

if husk soaked in water we can't get the base shape of the planter

and also we can't use this planter long time

so do not soak the husk completely

carefully remove the coir fiber

i just removed a coir fiber

cleaning and shaping

with a sharp blade or knife cut and remove the remaining coir

i just use the lighter to burn the small fibers

this is not necessary you can skip that step

now ready

to stand the husk planter i just use a small cement pot

in this planter

i'm going to plant a money plant it's a pothos plant

three different varieties of pothos they are already probagated

golden pothos

neon pothos

and marble queen pothos

first

place a plant in the husk

and put the coco peat

coco peat holds water and keeps moisture

it's best growing medium

you can use sand instead of coco peat

this planter is best for indoor planting

place this planter in window side that will growing very well

Spray water every two days

do not pure more water or over water

put the stones on the top layer

stones hold the coco peat and keep soil moisture

and gives neatness to the table top planter

and also looks very beautiful

you can also use colored stones or pebbles or colored sand

after planting

decorate your planter

it's a ship style planter

so i just use mini wooden ship accessories to decorate my planter

you can doctorate whatever you like

watering

use spray water for every two days

I start my book Virtually Native with some of the biggest myths

about learning a foreign language

learning English in our case

one of the biggest myths is the false belief that

one is good at writing but bad a speaking

no guys

it is virtually impossible

to be good at writing but bad at speaking

and here is why

I am good at writing but not good at speaking

let's start with the second half of that nonsense

not good at speaking

good at speaking

what does it mean to be good at speaking?

what do you think when you say good at speaking

For most people being good at speaking English is about

being a fluent speaker of English

speak English fluently

fluent is the most overused and misused word

among language learners and language teachers

what does it mean to be fluent in a foreign language?

what do you mean by fluent in English?

I don't care about your definition of fluent

I only care about what the dictionary has to say about that

let us start with Oxford Learner's Dictionary

fluent means able to speak, read or write a language,

especially a foreign language, easily and well

you can stop the video right now

Collins Dictionary

If your speech, reading, or writing is fluent you speak, read, or write easily, smoothly

and clearly with no mistakes.

I love using dictionaries

with no mistakes

do I need to continue with this video?

Cambridge Dictionary

When a person is fluent,

they can speak a language easily, well, quickly

and without many pauses

quickly

how delusional do you have to be to think that

you can write easily, quickly and with no mistakes

but be bad at speaking

that's virtually impossible

unless you have a speech impediment

or pathologically shy

yes, but I can take my time when writing a sentence

you can take all the time in the world when writing

but that doesn't make you good at writing

that makes you slow at writing

bad at writing

so you had better say: I am bad at writing and bad at speaking

I'm fine with that

there has to be uniformity across the different skills

writing, speaking and reading

namely TIME

quickly and accurately

no mistakes

it is virtually impossible to be good at writing but not good at speaking

it is like saying

I am good at running a full marathon but not good at running a half marathon

writing is the most difficult language skill

because of the TIME factor quickly and without mistakes

remove the time limit and mistakes and

we are all good at writing and good at speaking

and good at listening and good at reading

good at reading the other nonsense

I'm good at reading but bad at speaking

Go back and rematch the whole video but replace Writing with Reading

it is virtually impossible for adult learners

to be good at reading but bad at speaking

and stop using babies as an example of how to learn a second language

my books and videos are not for babies

if you want to learn like babies then I suggest

you find yourself an adoptive family in England move in with them

have them talk to you 8 hours a day for 5-6 years

then go to school there for 10 years and

you will have learned like a baby like a native speaker

babies don't watch youtube videos of talking heads telling them

how to learn their native language

I've said it a hundred times and I'm gonna say it a hundred more

the fight is for the 1%

Quick and Easy Vegan Mac N Cheese & BQQ Cauliflower Wings - Duration: 5:02.

Welcome making my famous car careens and leaving mac and cheese look

at how delicious this is it is so yummy so I need some cauliflower flour garlic

powder I'll tell in seasoning brown mustard and

make sure to check the vegan cheese to make sure it's we even check the

ingredients losing between they'll also need some flour so first things first

you're gonna put your past until it's al dente check to make sure you leave out

1/4 Hospital be too soggy but you don't want it to be hard

once it's done you're gonna take it over to your sink and you're gonna drain it

and then I'm just gonna run it with run it over once included water over it once

it's done you know corner just gonna put it back in the pot add some water one

milk and then you're just gonna add your cheese

depending on how cheese you want it and then you're just gonna put this back on

the stove and melt the cheese down and this is as e as it goes you can also

melt the cheese and then add the pasta I've done that as well but once you're

done it should look something like this and this it's so delicious

next we're gonna make a how far away together takes the oil I back to a

baking sheet and then I'm gonna take my frozen cauliflower and just toss it all

up in there like you better get these baby Conant I

love them more you know company signs then laugh at its work life and fans are

just gonna take this and put it in the oven I'm gonna cut it on 45 degrees and

I overcooked my merry Melbourne but it's the right you know you could still work

like that so I'm going to take my flour and put it in a mason jar I'm gonna add

my Italian seasoning garlic powder then I'm gonna add two

the mustards and smoked paprika I love smoked paprika then instead of using egg

replacer much she just needs water so you're going to take your fine flour and

put it in something a little bit of water literally and tops it in the water

and then put it inside your garb or your plastic bag or whatever you have is

flour in and you're literally just gonna shake it up shake it shake it like a

salt shaker and while we once it is done it will look something like this you see

that you don't need any egg replacer all you need some water and it is the

easiest way to make cauliflower I've found versus using an egg replacer it's

actually a lot cheaper and I mean it's super simple and easy so I did this to

all of my way and as you can see I'm just gonna keep you know taking them all

out because I have a little few more to put inside otherwise that's what they

look like so I'm gonna do this again just tossing any pasta tossed them and

then in the water it's just the water back and I'm just placing them inside of

the flower and I do this because it's gonna ask that most you need so the

flower can stick to the cauliflower and yeah so same thing again I'm just gonna

add the rest because our wings to this thing

okay so yeah we're just gonna shake shake shake

look at that like that's amazing to think about he's been back you know I'm

going to feel around and then I get them all out and we're all done

so I'm going to add these wings to my beach fire like so if you don't have a

deep fryer you can pan fry and yeah we're just gonna fry these fabulous and

once they are done we're going to make our barbecue so so it's literally just

half barbecue half better that's the ratio and want it to be coated so you're

just gonna toss your cauliflower and so if we're done instead of please barbecue

sauce and you don't need a lie thinking it's about to be famous things and it's

not because I'm on the water and it's just perfect that like bullet pick coats

the wings perfectly and then it gets a little time line and everything then you
