Youtube daily report Feb 6 2017

Hey, what's up?

John Sonmez here from simpleprogrammer.com.Today,

I have a question about—what was it about?

Oh, yeah.

Oh, look at those waves over there, how to avoid distractions.

That was pretty damn cheesy, but, you know, there we go.

So this is from Shriharsh Amur, I think.

I think that's—I don't know.

Maybe I'm pronouncing it right, maybe I'm not.

He says, "Hi, John.

I'm a student and I take a lot of courses and also have to study.

My day is very busy.

So as soon as I get up, I plan my day."

That's good.

"But almost everyday, something goes wrong and my plan doesn't work out."

That happens to everyone.

"My question to you is as you have experienced and as you are also very busy, how to not

get distracted and do a lot of things in a short span of time?"

Well, listen.

This is the magic pill that will solve everything in life.

So you got a few things right here, which—I mean planning your day out when you wake up,

that's good.

It's even better if you can plan it the night before.

Make sure when you do, you look at your calendar.

Okay?

This is one thing, a quick tip, is a lot of plan out their day and they don't look at

their calendar, which is kind of silly because if you got appointments, if you got meetings

and you got stuff like that, you need to know that.

It seems pretty obvious, but you can't assume you're going to have 8 hours to work in an

8-hour work day.

You got to be realistic about that.

The second thing I would say in avoiding distractions is you got to assume that there's going to

be distractions.

There's going to be things.

Now, it doesn't mean that you accept defeat.

It doesn't mean that you say, "Oh, well.

I guess I'm just going to get distracted."

No.

You're going to hold the line, but you got to be practical and pragmatic at the same

time.

What that means is and I borrowed this—I've mentioned this book already today, I think,

but it's called "7 Habits of Highly Effective People."

I think this is where this idea first came from, from Stephen Covey, and he talks about

this idea of big rocks.

I think he gives this example of feeling a tube or a glass container with sand and then

with smaller pebbles, and then bigger pebbles and the big pebbles don't fit, but then he

does the opposite way where he puts the big rocks first and then the smaller pebbles and

then the sand, and it all kind of fits in there.

That's how you got to plan your day.

That's how you got to plan your life.

What is the big rock?

What is the big thing that matters most?

There's actually a good book that sort of talks about this.

There're 2 books, actually.

I get the 2 books confused, so I'll just talk about both of them.

One of them is called Essentialism which you can check out here and the other one is called

The One Thing.

You can check out here.

I think it's The One Thing, the author talks about this idea about essentially what is

the one thing that you could do today that would make everything else either irrelevant

or easier, or more effective.

Okay?

You got to figure out everyday, you need to have a big rock.

What is the one thing that you need to accomplish that's going to move the ball forward?

Yes, you've got this to do list.

Yes, you've got all these stuff on there and you need to get that.

Getting that stuff done is "important," but, again, 7 habits will also help you with

this about the four quadrants of determining what is urgent and important versus what's

important or not urgent, and what is not important but is urgent and what is not important and

not urgent.

A lot of times we spend in stuff that's urgent but not important or even just not urgent

and not important.

That's just the stupid stuff.

If you're thinking about these rocks and you're thinking about what's really important and

what's really going to make the difference in your life, what's really going to make

the difference in your career.

For example, I'll give you an example.

For me, I'm working on writing my new book.

If you want to sign up to get free copies of the chapters when they're released on my

blog, click here.

It's called The Complete Software Developer's Career Guide.

To me, that's what's going to move the ball forward more than anything else.

Right?

Well, there's 2 things.

That's the number 1 and then number 2 is doing YouTube videos everyday because I'm trying

to really grow the YouTube channel.

So I have 2 kinds of big rocks.

I got 1 really big rock which is everyday I sit down, and the first thing that I do

is I write about a thousand words, I write about for an hour in my book.

That's my big rock.

I get that done everyday and I do that first.

It doesn't matter if other shit happens during the day because it's going to happen.

It's going to distract me.

It's going to cause problems but I've already gotten the big rock done so the ball is moving

forward no matter what.

I'm making progress in my life on the big important thing.

The other thing that I do is the 2 YouTube videos today so that's always—I'm making

progress everyday.

I'm getting the book done.

I'm getting the 2 YouTube videos, and so I'm definitely making progress, right?

Figure out, when you plan, figure out what are the big rocks and put that first and make

that the very first thing that you do.

I did this interview with Pinal Dave who owns a blog called SQLAuthority.com.

It's a huge, huge blog.

He said that everyday—and he's written a blogpost everyday for like the last, I want

to say, is it 10 years?

It's either 8 or 10 years.

It's something like that.

It's very, very long.

When I did this interview with him, you can check out the interview, it's in my course

on How to Market Yourself as a Software Developer.

I also have an interview with Bob Martin and Jeff Atwood, a bunch of really cool guys.

In this interview, he said that what he does every morning is before he brushes his teeth

in the morning, he writes his blogposts.

He's not allowed to brush his teeth, not allowed to get rid of his stink breath, until he writes

his blogpost.

That's worked for him for like, what, 8 or 10 years or writing a blogpost every single

day.

He said he doesn't go to bed at night and for some reason he missed it.

Do that.

When you wake up in the morning, be like, "Okay.

Whatever my big rock is, nothing is stopping me.

I'm working on that first."

Then the other stuff is—you'll usually find that, you know, the 80/20 rule, that there's

one thing, that big rock, that's going to give you 80% of the effectiveness or the value

out of your life that's going to move the ball forward and the rest of it, that 20%

is going to give you that 80% effectiveness.

The rest of it is not so important.

It's not that critical.

It's not that critical if I miss answering emails for a day.

It doesn't really matter that much.

If I miss writing my book even though it's not necessarily urgent, it's going to prevent

me.

In a year, it will have hurt.

I wouldn't have made the progress I need.

That's the first thing.

The second thing I would say also is make sure that when you're planning your day, when

you're planning out your schedule, that you put buffer time in there.

I listened to this talk at this conference that I was speaking at.

I think it was the Code Writers Workshop.

This woman, I can't remember her name, but she was like—she was talking about being

on time and being punctual.

She said, "You can always be on time."

She said she uses buffers.

She said there is no excuse for it.

She says that you don't want to show up too early, but what you do is wherever you're

going, you show 30 minutes early and you have something you can do like your Kindle with

you or emails you can answer on your phone, or something that you could do during that

time so you're there already.

So traffic, it doesn't matter what traffic did, you're going to be there.

You're 30 minutes early and you spend 20 minutes doing something.

You're not just wasting the time, but you've planned—you've got activities for these

buffer zones for when you have them like reading or something like that and being prepared

for them.

That was a brilliant suggestion, but you can do with your life, is you can plan out stuff.

You got 8 hours in the day, don't book 8 hours.

Are you crazy?

How many times have you done that and it doesn't work?

Right?

You're never going to get all that stuff done.

Book like 6 hours.

Start with 5 and put buffers in there, so that you've got that slack time in there.

That's going to help you as much as possible.

Then I think we could talk about this all day long, but I'll wrap it up here.

As far as avoiding the distractions, that's just a habit that you build.

Actually, there's a video on How I Plan My Week.

You can check it out here and I used to Pomodoro technique to avoid distractions, and I basically

focus for 25-minute blocks at a time just focus on the one task.

No interruptions.

No distractions allowed.

Developing that habit is what helps me to avoid distractions.

It's more critical that you figure out what the big rock is and get that done than it

is that you like fill your day totally with productive stuff and don't get distracted.

I mean you still want to do that, but first, in order of priority, first, figure out how

to schedule your day so that you do get the big rock done first.

Then work on setting up buffers so that you've actually got the time to get—that you're

doing realistic planning because if you have an unrealistic goal, there's no better way

to be demotivated than to have something that you know that you can accomplish an unrealistic

goal.

Then third, use something like the Pomodoro technique.

Work on focus.

Work on eliminating distractions as much as possible and developing that habit.

Some of you that are at the advanced level, you need to focus on the third one, on the

focus.

For most people, they can get more benefit out of 1, and 2 out of making the big rock

and making the buffer time then they can add the third one.

Once you've got those then bring the third one on.

I hope that answers your question and this is a good question.

Distractions area always a problem even for me.

I still have to work on this.

I still have to focus.

The battle is fought anew everyday.

It doesn't matter.

You still have to bring your A game everyday.

You're never going to get to this point where you're like, "Oh, I can just focus," until

they invent that miracle drug that just makes you super focused.

I know some of you think you know what it is, but let's not even go there.

If you like this video, click the Subscribe button below.

Focus, focus!

Don't be distracted.

Click the Subscribe button and on your 5-minute Pomodoro breaks, you can watch my videos so

that you're not distracted.

That's a good use to that 5-minute timer.

That downtime when you show up for the meeting 30 minutes early, in your car for 20 minutes

you can watch me rattle on.

Talk to you next time.

Take care.

My First PC Build for 1080p 60fps YouTube Recording! GTX 1070 i7 6700k - Duration: 12:33.

hey there everyone my name is new apt

and welcome to my channel to do hey I

got a new computer or at least i finally

bought one

it's been about three years in the

making but i finally decided to take the

plunge and to make something that can

actually do YouTube the whole idea

behind getting a new computer was one

because i always want to build one and

two because i wanted to play actual

video games and not just flash game for

the rest of my life

so without further ado let's get into

exactly what it is that i bought why I

bought it and kind of the reasoning

behind why about it

so step number one is I made this build

around two things one was the CPU and

the other was the GPU now I chose my cpu

and GPU to give me the best performance

when working with production

environments like OBS studios premiere

pro final cut pro blender different

unity and unreal engine and made sure to

get the fastest and best parts as

possible so that i don't have to worry

about processing power to be able to

handle 1080p 60 frames per second on a

consistent basis i also made sure that I

had enough storage so that i could do at

least three or four videos in

solid-state drive

alright as fast as possible so number

one was the cpu for the cpu I chose an

intel i7 6 700 k the reason I chose this

one because it's the fastest single-core

processor or the fastest single-core

processor that I believe is out

up until like january first which was

just around the corner if I would have

waited about three weeks i could have

gotten Intel 77 k which is

which the improvement is about seven

percent for the same amount of dollar

wise but that also means that i'd have

to get a different motherboard that

might have cost an extra fifty bucks or

so for the new biggest curry like

chipset so to go along with the GPU i

also got a or go along with the cpu that

ridiculously fast speed i also went for

the GPU and figure by geforce gtx 1070

g1 gaming and then i also got about to

stick to a cake sticks of g.skill ripjaw

v5 series as far as the cpu cooler goes

nkd 15 as far as january first 2017 goes

that air cooler is the best on the

market it cools it down the the the most

and the quietest the NOC tool fans that

comes with are really really quiet and

to put the heatsink on with a thermal

compound the jealous solution GC extreme

thermal compound it is the best on the

market that's not liquid metal liquid

metal will corrode things and short

things out but it is a better cooling

agent by like one or two degrees so I

like the non-corrosive non-conductive

not curing compound that the jealous

solution comes with because it's really

good i would recommend it and for 13

bucks as a right now it's really get as

far as the mother board goes to put this

all together i got the asus z 170 a 80

exit dr for motherboard

now that came with integrated HD sound

so I can hook up surround sound if I

really wanted to without having to put

in the sound card which is really nice

it has a lot of as a few USB 3 ports it

has fairly good to fairly good board for

the pretty decent bored I was worried

that the board might crack when I put on

my hefty my FTD 15 but as I was

surprised by how good the the backplate

and everything stuck together it was

really solid and it just evenly

distributed way everywhere so I don't

have to worry about about it breaking

which is really nice is everything

sturdy and in place and quiet which I

really like

so as far as the power supply unit goes

i got the GV g a supernova 250-watt g 2

80 plus gold fully modular I got a

fantastic

etho and though pro full tower chassis

with the window chat with with the

window now this tower is a beast i was

able to customize everything that I

needed to it had a SSD side hook up

where I could place my SSD on the side

of the chassis and take out the hard

disk drive docks which is really which

makes the front fan more efficient

because they can blow without being

impeded by the hard disk drives and as

far as storage goes i have an SSD

sandston sandisk 480 a good bite it's

one of the lower tier ssds but it gets

the job done for exactly what i needed

for its not the fastest the world but it

is a heck of a lot faster than a hard

disk drive so as far as monitor goes

already had these two monitors is too

acer 1080p60 heart monitors which are

very nice they do exactly what they need

to 1080p 60 Hertz or 60

frames-per-second they don't come with

display ports is the only downside that

i had so i had to have but the graphics

card does have dual monitor support with

hdmi and DVI so I had one DVI cord and

one hdmi cord the difference there is

that the hdmi can travel sound which I

don't need because i have two speakers

which are from a really old build I

don't even know what these things are

really old really old speakers about 10

bucks probably for my operating system i

just transferred over my windows 10 from

the from going to school i have free

Windows 10 so that's nice i have the

educational edition and last but not

least is the wireless adapter now I got

a wireless adapter because there ain't

no cords coming into my room I needed

and their the routers in the other room

so I needed to hook to that so i got

this wireless adapter and it works

superbly it does everything that I

needed to now going further into what I

got this

this doesn't have anything to do with

the computer but it has everything to do

with YouTube his the camcorder SD card

SD card reader and tripod that I got I

got like a really cheap one more $15

tripod which my cameras on right now but

as far as the camcorder goes also a

Walmart was the cannon vixa vixia hf r

700 it takes 1080p 60 or 1080p 60 frames

per second video that's true progressive

frames has unlimited recording time i

can plug it directly into the wall as an

external mic how the battery lasts for

about two hours but the sensor isn't too

great so when it gets dark in here

you'll see much more greeny greeny

pixelated

noise so right now I had the Sun beating

beating at me but for some of the other

shots that you've seen it's fairly

grainy with the low light levels

I'd need more lights maybe maybe i'll

invest in bigger lights so that i can

take better HD video at night but it

does absolutely everything that I needed

to and it does well and it has an

external mic support so i can put on a

shotgun mic if I'm ever doing outside

videos or parties and things like that

which is nice

as far as the SD card I got an SD xc60

gigabytes for 64 gigabytes lexar

professional UHS to you three card now

this in card is very important when

doing 1080p 60 frames per second because

it allows me to transfer data on from

the card onto my computer at a hundred

and fifty megabytes per second which

when dealing with 64 gigabytes means

that i can travel i can transfer 64

gigabytes in about seven minutes which

is really really nice with a USB 3

sought so the and for the SD card reader

i got the lexar professional workflow sr

to SD u hs2 usb3 reader now that can

handle the UHS two cards and as far as

the headphones and mic goes the sound

system that i have on right now is this

right here is the PX 22-year force

fifty-dollar headset with it's a sin

alright Mike I had to do a lot of

editing opposed to make sure that it

cuts out the sound and that it the voice

gain is higher so you aren't having your

volume at max your headphones

on just so that you can hear me talk so

that is everything that I have I might

want to invest in better sound equipment

later on but as far as right now goes

this is everything that I need and/or

this is everything that I wanted

I don't really need too much do YouTube

especially during programming videos and

stuff like that but now i can play

actual games and record them at the same

time which is fantastic so that is it

everyone that is my new build it was

pretty fun i hope you enjoyed it I hope

you are able to build your own computer

one day one that you want and the one

that fits your needs because it's really

fun

so if you want more information more

detailed information i read about a 14

page essay of everything that I chose

and kind of general tips on how to make

your computer run faster and that link

is in the description below you can go

ahead read up on that it'll take you a

couple ministry through and you can see

exactly why i chose everything that I

chose in more detail as well as letting

as well as being able to choose for

yourself what you want

so thank you all so much for watching I

hope you enjoyed this video leave a like

ClimateGate 2 NOAA Whistleblower Claims World Leaders Fooled By Fake Global Warming Data - Duration: 4:57.

ClimateGate 2 - NOAA Whistleblower Claims World Leaders Fooled By Fake Global Warming

Data

by Tyler Durden

Dr John Bates' disclosures about the manipulation of data behind the so-called 'Pausebuster'

paper is the biggest scientific scandal since 'Climategate' in 2009 when, as Britain's Daily

Mail reported, thousands of leaked emails revealed scientists were trying to block access

to data, and using a 'trick' to conceal embarrassing flaws in their claims about global warming.

Britain's Mail on Sunday today revealed astonishing evidence that the organisation that is the

worlds leading source of climate data rushed to publish a landmark paper that exaggerated

global warming and was timed to influence the historic Paris Agreement on climate change.

A high-level whistleblower has told this newspaper that Americas National Oceanic and Atmospheric

Administration (NOAA) breached its own rules on scientific integrity when it published

the sensational but flawed report, aimed at making the maximum possible impact on world

leaders including Barack Obama and David Cameron at the UN climate conference in Paris in 2015.

The report claimed that the pause or slowdown in global warming in the period

since 1998 revealed by UN scientists in 2013 never existed, and that world temperatures

had been rising faster than scientists expected.

Launched by NOAA with a public relations fanfare, it was splashed across the worlds media,

and cited repeatedly by politicians and policy makers.

But the whistleblower, Dr John Bates, a top NOAA scientist with an impeccable reputation,

has shown The Mail on Sunday irrefutable evidence that the paper was based on misleading, unverified

data.

It was never subjected to NOAAs rigorous internal evaluation process which Dr Bates

devised.

His vehement objections to the publication of the faulty data were overridden by his

NOAA superiors in what he describes as a blatant attempt to intensify the impact of what

became known as the Pausebuster paper.

In an exclusive interview, Dr Bates accused the lead author of the paper, Thomas Karl,

who was until last year director of the NOAA section that produces climate data the

National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) of insisting on decisions and

scientific choices that maximised warming and minimised documentation in an effort

to discredit the notion of a global warming pause, rushed so that he could time publication

to influence national and international deliberations on climate policy.

The scandal has disturbing echoes of the Climategate affair which broke shortly before the UN climate

summit in 2009, when the leak of thousands of emails between climate scientists suggested

they had manipulated and hidden data.

Some were British experts at the influential Climatic Research Unit at the University of

East Anglia.

His disclosures are likely to stiffen President Trumps determination to enact his pledges

to reverse his predecessors green policies, and to withdraw from the Paris deal

so triggering an intense political row.

As The Mail continues, whatever takes its place, said Dr Bates, "there needs to be a

fundamental change to the way NOAA deals with data so that people can check and validate

scientific results.

Im hoping that this will be a wake-up call to the climate science community a signal

that we have to put in place processes to make sure this kind of crap doesnt happen

again.

"I want to address the systemic problems.

I dont care whether modifications to the datasets make temperatures go up or down.

But I want the observations to speak for themselves, and for that, there needs to be a new emphasis

that ethical standards must be maintained."

He said he decided to speak out after seeing reports in papers including the Washington

Post and Forbes magazine claiming that scientists feared the Trump administration would fail

to maintain and preserve NOAAs climate records.

Dr Bates said: "How ironic it is that there is now this idea that Trump is going to trash

climate data, when key decisions were earlier taken by someone whose responsibility it was

to maintain its integrity and failed."

NOAA not only failed, but it effectively mounted a cover-up when challenged over its data.

What's that sticky thing I see over there?

Toothpaste crusted on the mirror.

Grab an icy drink. Meet me on the deck.

Mmm. That's good.

Time to disconnect.

So thankful every day

for this family getaway.

I'm feelin' sorry for myself. Wish I could be somewhere else. Uh-huh.

If I was you, I'd go to the spa too. Be lounging by the pool,

but Baby's overdue.

If I was you, I'd wanna be here too.

I'm hanging with the crew. My kids think I'm so cool.

I'm always on a short leash. Kids always needing something.

Can never keep my house clean. My entourage so messy.

Some family time on a cruise. There's always something to do.

But even if you try to, can't mini-golf like I do.

Choi Soon-sil's former ally claims he saw Choi revising Presidential speeches - Duration: 1:59.

And now the latest on the criminal trial of Choi Soon-sil.

Her former associate Ko Young-tae took the stand today where he directly contradicted

some of Choi's statements about her role in the alleged influence peddling.

Ko said he witnessed the power Choi wielded not only in the presidential office, but at

the organizations she allegedly used to extort money from big Korean conglomerates.

Lee Unshin has more . Choi Soon-sil's former associate, Ko Young-tae,

who also allegedly had an affair with her, appeared on Monday as a witness in Choi's

criminal trial.

Ko testified that during the time he served as a director at Choi's paper company, The

Blue-K, he witnessed Choi revising President Park Geun-hye's speeches on her laptop.

Ko said that from what he understood, Choi and the President were extremely close, to

the point where Choi was often in and out of presidential office and that Park's secretaries

did Choi's bidding more than anyone else's.

Choi, who is accused of coercing big companies into giving money to entities that she controlled,

has previously said she was not involved in running either The Blue-K paper company or

the K-Sports Foundation.

But Ko said that Choi did in fact make key decisions... from the appointment of personnel

to the fundraising process -- some of which is alleged to have amounted to soliciting

bribes.

Ko also said that he quit his previous job as the head of a clothing shop frequented

by Choi, because he had become afraid of how much influence Choi had on state affairs.

At a later hearing, Ko is expected to be questioned by Choi herself, a right granted to defendants

by Korean law which Choi has decided to exercise.

The Constitutional Court reviewing the separate case of President Park's impeachment, meanwhile,

plans to summon Ko for questioning on Thursday in the trial's 12th hearing.

But because as a witness he is not obligated to appear, it's unclear whether he will comply.

N. Korea's Asian Games participation raises speculation about its Olympics intentions - Duration: 2:04.

A Japanese media reports...

Japan will allow North Korean athletes and officials to take part in the Sapporo Asian

Winter Games this month.

That, despite sanctions against the reclusive state that bar North Koreans from entering

the country.

According to our Connie Kim, that decision has raised speculation about whether the isolated

regime will also seek to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea's resort

town of PyeongChang.

Japan's decision to allow North Korean athletes to compete in the Asian Winter Games in Sapporo

later this month... has raised speculation about whether North Korean athletes will be

allowed to participate in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea next year.

Citing government sources, Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported Monday that roughly 20 North

Koreans, including seven athletes, will be allowed to enter Japan.

This is reportedly an exception to an entry ban that Japan implemented in light of the

North's nuclear test and long-range ballistic missile launch last year.

Kyodo said all North Korean officials accompanying the athletes will be required to submit valid

proof of identity to determine whether they have any connection with the ruling Workers'

Party of Korea or the military.

While there is no word yet on whether North Korea is planning to send athletes to the

PyeongChang Olympics, the South Korean organizing committee has said it would welcome the North's

participation.

In any case, the North will still have to follow the rules.

"North Korea's participation in the Olympics should be handled in accordance with international

practices, relevant regulations and procedures."

North Korea sent athletes to the Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010, but did not participate

in the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014.

"Some lawmakers in Seoul have said North Korea's participation in the Games could help ease

inter-Korean tensions, as a peaceful event is one of the goals of the Olympics.

There's just about a year left until the Winter Olympics in South Korea, so there's still

time for a decision on both sides.

Connie Kim, Arirang News."

Trump's "Muslim ban" is damaging crucial humanitarian work around the world — and also galvanizing m - Duration: 9:43.

Trumps Muslim ban is damaging crucial humanitarian work around the world and

also galvanizing mass resistance

by DAVID PALUMBO-LIU

There may be no way to adequately represent the full cost of President Trumps executive

order curtailing immigration from select Muslim countries it has unleashed both immediate

and long-term damage to individuals, families and whole populations.

(That order is now on hold, thanks to the order of a federal judge in Seattle but

no one knows for how long.)

If there is a single phrase that captures the new situation of living in the era of

Trump it would be radical uncertainty. Now immigrants and refugees, two of the most

vulnerable groups in the world, are especially subjected to it.

The EO has galvanized mass resistance and led vast numbers of Americans to recommit

to some of the very basic notions of what America is; it has created record donations

to the American Civil Liberties Union and driven tens of thousands of people to city

centers and international airports to protest.

A new and very targeted humanitarian movement is emerging from within the United States

and elsewhere in response to the callousness and cynicism that defines the new regime.

It was Jewish immigrant Emma Lazarus who penned the poem The New Colossus to help raise

funds for the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty.

It contains the famous lines recently evoked by President Obama when he spoke of immigration

reform:

Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me.

The fact that Trump chose Holocaust Remembrance Day to announce the immigration ban, while

issuing a proclamation that made no mention of the Jewish victims of the Holocaust, speaks

volumes.

Trump is thumbing his nose at both the ethos that helped build America and the Constitution

itself.

Critically, Trumps style of governing bodes ill for the future of humanitarian activism

he often seems to shoot from the hip, bypassing the usual modes of conferring with

others.

His recent shuffling of the National Security Council, promoting adviser Steve Bannon to

a seat on the Council while downgrading the roles of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs

of Staff and the director of national intelligence, along with the firing of acting Attorney General

Sally Yates, are but two instances.

He is playing with the normal checks and balances of government, and this again can have great

human costs.

Trumps tendency is to act autocratically, in the case of the executive order on immigration,

has led even members of his own party to criticize him for not adequately engaging them in any

process of vetting.

This kind of presidential behavior will have dramatic effects on, among other things, the

efforts of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in a wide range of areas Trump has targeted,

including human rights and environmental justice.

While it is true that the designation of these countries in particular was first conceived

of by the Obama administration, and Islamophobic sentiments have been stoked ever since the

beginning of the so-called War on Terror, Trump has raised state actions against Muslims

to a new level that defies rationality and, again, goes against what most consider America

to be.

As the New York Times noted on Jan. 28, The order lacks any logic.

It invokes the attacks of Sept. 11 as a rationale, while exempting the countries of origin of

all the hijackers who carried out that plot and also, perhaps not coincidentally, several

countries where the Trump family does business. Margaret Huang, executive director of Amnesty

International USA, says: This [order] puts anti-Muslim bigotry into policy and is eerily

reminiscent of the kind of religious discrimination weve documented in countries like China

and Iran.

In arguing that the ban distorts American identity, some very particular notions have

come forward regarding who, exactly, best represents that identity in sum, who we

want to be sure can enter the country.

While Silicon Valley businesses and American universities complain of losing workers and

students, the stories of refugees who are neither high-tech workers nor college students

are less present.

To get a real sense of the broader and more sweeping human cost of this Executive Order

we need to look to their stories.

Human Rights Watch mentions the case of a survivor of ISIS terrorism who is now unable

to come to the United States; NBC News has run a poignant story about a 7-year-old Syrian

boy suffering from cancer who is now barred from receiving the treatment his parents secured

for him.

There are thousands of other stories we dont hear about.

A press release from Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontires (MSF) calls the order an

inhumane act against people fleeing war zones, pointing specifically at the situation of

Syrian refugees, whose plight has captured the attention of the world.

MSF notes, Nearly five million people have fled Syria into neighboring countries The

presidents executive order will effectively keep people trapped in war zones, directly

endangering their lives.

Jason Cone, executive director of MSF, told Salon that the executive order undermines

the broader system of protection for refugees.

How are governments such as Jordan and Lebanon, who host millions of Syrian refugees, expected

to continue to cope with the strain of caring for these people and still keep their borders

open when the United States is effectively closing its borders?

Cone added that while MSF is still analyzing the actual executive order, there are elements

of it that may restrict the ability of MSF staff to work in the restricted countries

because they may not be able return to the U.S. after working in countries such as Libya

or Yemen. He was also dubious about the new plan to create safe zones in Syria

to cut down on the number of refugees, saying that should not prevent people from fleeing

the conflict, as this is a recognized right in international refugee conventions and international

humanitarian law.

Indeed, while the government of Saudi Arabia has reportedly promised to support such

safe zones, it is not at all clear what that would entail, nor what the U.S. obligation

would be.

Safe zones require no-fly zones, and both depend on enforcement, which can actually

increase the scale of military actions.

And with Syrias response that such zones would be in fact unsafe and a violation

of its state sovereignty, there is every chance that such a policy could increase, not decrease,

the flow of refugees leaving Syria.

Marie Tan, a seasoned MSF fieldworker, gives us a sense of what this looks like from ground

level: For many of the vulnerable populations whom we serve in the field in Yemen, Iraq,

Sudan, Libya the EO wont change much.

For them, getting access to health care is already a struggle; they are far from having

access to getting refugee visas or tourist visas or student visas.

However, as some of my local colleagues and beneficiaries have shared in multiple

dire contexts for them, the idea that the world is in solidarity with them, that

is enough to give them some hope and whats happening now with the new policies is the

complete opposite of that. Nevertheless, Tan ended with this: But it is heartening

to continue to do the work we do responding to needs without discrimination, with neutrality

and impartiality.

There is hope yet.

It seems like every day (if not more frequently than that) progressives are presented with

one or another new challenge there is no question but that protest fatigue

is a threat to moving activism forward.

One of the most powerful antidotes is a genuine mass movement.

During the protests at San Francisco International Airport last weekend, people worked in shifts,

cycling in and out of the protest, day and night.

It is clear that the new presidents unprecedented actions have sparked a great deal of moral

outrage people are not comfortable with their rights, and the rights of others, being

threatened or taken away.

Trump may be counting on people losing interest, but his actions are proving to be the biggest

catalyst behind the emergence of one of the most impressive, multi-coalitional protest

movements in decades.

Much of that energy will derive from wanting to provide material and moral support to the

work that humanitarian organizations

are doing, across all borders and outside national governments.

Classical Musicians React: BEAST 'Breath' - Duration: 8:36.

Henry: If Justin Bieber could multiply himself and be a boy band then

it would be a feat of science and technology

and the government would study him

*Rossini's Semiramide Overture plays*

Umu: So today you guys are going to be watching a group called BEAST (T-T)

They were debuted in 2009 and

they are made up of 6 members (T-T)

They're known for their ballads

but at the moment Kevin is helping me pick out which ballads to show

so for now I'm just showing you my favorite 2 songs from them

Yunyi: I'm still gonna flip out about the fact

Yunyi: THAT THIS IS AN INCOMPLETE SONATA FORM

Kevin: I think you're gonna flip out even more this time

Yunyi: Ok I'll do the Sonata form analysis

kevin: oh this is the one where i- cross justice

Umu: Let me explain, let me- No that isn't

Kevin: Yes this is the one

Kevin: Go, go

Umu: Hi I lost their video of them originally reacting to Breath because

(YALL PRAY FOR UMU SHE WORKS SO HARD FIGHTING MAMA UMU!!!)

Kevin: It'll still be good

Umu: Yeah so now they're re-listening which means they're gonna analyze the music more

Yunyi: It means I'm gonna do a complete Sonata form analysis of this piece

and it's gonna stop at the recapitulation Umu: It's a song

Yunyi: It's a piece

Umu: It's a song Yunyi: It's a piece now

Henry: anyway

Fiona: Five, four

Jarod: Three

Davis: Two

Lindsey: One

Jarod: Lift off

Yunyi: Slow introduction

XD

Jarod: That don't look good

Peyton: Gettin a post apocalyptic vibe here

Henry: He died in a rollercoaster accident (Final Destination 3)

Fiona: Ooh who's that ch- She's so pretty

They're so cute

Henry: Everyone's so pretty Fiona: Omg

Lindsey: Is she gonna disappear (XDXD)

because I swear to GD

Herny: Well f*** why are there so many hot Asian people

Davis: I already like how they're establishing the black and red, the difference

Henry: She's bringing him back to life

Lindsey: What is that?

*Gasp*

Lindsey: Is that like a gas mask Davis: Oxygen or something Umu: Yes

Umu: Oxygen Lindsey: I mean, I mean, I mean oxygen

*laughter*

ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

Hugo: I'm really enjoying this dance scene

Jarod: Now that's a start I can get behind

Peyton: Gotta use the BREATHy voice

Jarod: Oh of course

Jarod: Dude if I was down like that and got up and could just get up and spit bars you know

Yunyi: Vocals too good

Davis: Oh it spells Breath in the back

Lindsey: Uh huh

Davis: On the lights

(ง ͠° ͟ل͜ ͡°)ง

Hugo: Oh yeah!

Henry: The breakdown was lit as f***

yunyi: theme 1! theme 1 ! kevin: justice! cross!

kevin: JUSTICE! UH

Gwen: I like the strategic slow-mo action really, a lot

Henry: Low rip synthesizer

Lindsey: Yeah Davis: I'm in the club, let's go

Yunyi: It's so funky!

Davis: I like when artists do they. When they put their name

or the song in the music video

Lindsey: It's subtle though it's not like-

Davis: Yeah it's subtle. If you notice it's almost always in the background

Henry: The camera negates their movement

Hugo: He's got a good voice

Yunyi: Cuz this is the Kevin: This is the bridge

Yunyi: Yeah this is the bridge to the chorus Kevin: It's the transition

Kevin: this is the medial caesura

Yunyi: Jfc

Lindsey: It looks like they're indoors here

They really like that whole parking garage type feel

*raver kevin appears*

Lindsey: That's English, they're holding their Breath I can hold my Breath

Hugo: Yeah

I enjoy how they harmonize on each BREATH

Peyton: badabadabadumboodoodim

Kevin: I bet they do that live and all the girls freak out

I mean I would freak out (me too ;P)

Henry: Yeah, If you stripped all the vocals and it was just trap music

I'd be like this is hype as f***

Jarod: The guyliner is with them

Gwen: I'm digging his shoulders

Peyton: It takes a real man to put on makeup

Jarod: Yeah man

davis: yeah dude tho

Yunyi: The second statement

Hugo: They've got such a nice melody on top of such a fat beat

Yunyi: Verse, bridge, chorus

Verse 2

Davis: Dirty synth sound

Peyton: Emotional halftime

Gwen: Phat beat doe

Hugo: It i- yeah what do you want me to say it it

Yunyi: Chorus 2

Fiona: Ahhhhhhhh

Henry: HHmmmmmmmm

Fiona: OOOhhhhhhhhhh

Henry: Testifyyy Yeeaaaahhh

Gwen: I like the exaggerated BREATHing

Hugo: Well I like how they incorporate dance into

They're showing breathing through dance

Gwen: Oh sh*t rain

Hugo: Ooh

Gwen: Also that high note Hugo: Yeah, hold that high note

Yunyi: Oh I love like

Hugo: And the nice bit of vibrato at the end

Straight tone

Ooh

Yunyi: Dancing is like so

Hugo: He's got that riff and that little break in there

Henry: *gasp* strings

He's dreaming

Henry: Omg there's a string section. What what they have a string section Fiona: Woah yay

Fiona: Woah sand henry: sand

Gwen: Why are there so many cellos I don't even hear cello

Hugo: Shhhh

Yunyi: It depicts what they're singing

Hugo: That's so cool

Gwen: So many cellos

Yunyi: Um, descending tetrachord

Lindsey: Woah woah woah woah woah woah

It's the opposite of the beginning

he's putting the oxygen mask on her now

and they're outside and the scenery is different and everything is just the opposite of what is was in the beginning

Fiona: That's me right there

Peyton: Haha, cue oxygen tank

Fiona: Ok if he brings her back to life is he gonna die?

Yes, I'm guessing

Henry: No they're just gonna fall in love

Kevin: I think it makes sense because you want to see more with the girl

and then musically it's like longing for something

Hugo: It can't be like One Shot again. That f***ed me up man, that f***ed me up hard

Kevin: Ooh I like how the ending the duh duh kinda feels like a heart beat duh dun duh dun

Davis: That felt really short

(what's going on here)

Davis: I don't know if it was short

Both: It was 4 minutes and 19 seconds

Davis: it felt like I was watching it for only 2 minutes

Umu: Did you want more

Davis: I kinda did

Lindsey: At the same time i felt fulfilled Davis: Yeah

Davis: It fulfilled everything that I would want to be in a music video but I kinda just wanted a little bit more

Peyton: You can feel my breath (that's not the lyrics lol)

Jarod: That's touching

Umu: What did you think about the song

Jarod: That was groovy Peyton: It was good, it was good

Peyton: I could see myself in the car like

I could feel my breath yeah (still not it but close enough XD)

Jarod: I could see myself in the gym when I just need a hype song

you know I could see this being a good hype song

Ash: What did you think about this group compared to all of them

Gwen: These had stronger vocals

Hugo: Yeah I feel like they were on par with Mamamoo for just like really good vocal power

Especially their high notes. They had really good high melodies

and they were really good at

there was that one note. That sustained note

When he was sustaining that high note he like

had that onset with straight tone

Hugo: and then it just grew Gwen: He said aaaahhhhhhhh

Hugo: I don't know. I like their harmonies

Like their chord structure

Gwen: Those looked solid. I really enjoyed it

Yunyi: our Beast fanfiction XDXD

Umu: Haha no

Kevin: Look out for our

Yunyi: Reaction to Beast Fiction

XDXDXD

Both: On Thursday

Yunyi: Beast Umu: YEAH!

Yunyi: Beast fanfiction Kevin: We keeping that?

Umu: Yeah

Yunyi: Fictional beasts

Umu: You need to explain what the heck all the Sonata Form things were

(Guys I'm not a music major or anything so I swear I thought she said synonoform. Google gave me no results for that word)

Lady Gaga at the Super Bowl: No Controversy, Lots of Glitter - Duration: 7:54.

Lady Gaga went for one big, glittering, diverse party with her Super Bowl halftime show. "We're here to make you feel good," she declared mid-set. At her N.F.L. news conference, she had promised a statement of "inclusion,"

an upbeat and uncontroversial stance, and she made good on it as she began her set, singing a few lines each of "God Bless America" and "This Land Is Your Land" and reciting the "one nation indivisible" conclusion of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Wearing a shiny, silvery, big-shouldered sci-fi bodysuit and matching high-heeled boots, with a glittery mask painted around her eyes, Lady Gaga was lowered through the air, on suspension cables

into NRG Stadium in Houston, showing off a trapeze-like flip. And she started belting her hits, with a nod to the local audience: "Poker Face" announced, "I want to hold 'em like they do in Texas."

One of those hits was "Born This Way," her dance-floor anthem of self-acceptance for all kinds of people. "You're black, white, beige, chola descent / You're Lebanese, you're orient," she sang, and later, "No matter gay, straight, or bi / Lesbian, transgendered life / I'm on the right track baby / I was born to survive."

It was doubtless the first time the word "transgendered" had been sung at a Super Bowl halftime show. Dozens of dancers of multiple skin tones and genders joined her, matching her moves in exultant line dances and embodying her message of empowerment as a shared celebration.

But most of the show was simply about full-tilt pop fun: songs like "Telephone," about dancing at clubs, and "Bad Romance," about falling in love and lust. It was a megamix of her songs spanning her career, from her 2008 debut single, "Just Dance," to "Million Reasons," the power ballad from her 2016 album, "Joanne."

She sang "Million Reasons" from a piano as people waving orange electric torches made patterns that radiated across the football field; that was her relatively still point in a fiercely athletic performance. "The Super Bowl is what champions are made of," she declared as "Bad Romance" revved up.

Lady Gaga has proudly presented herself as the continuation of generations of song-and-dance showbiz troupers, a tradition of fervent effort and well-rehearsed spectacle delivered with joy.

She sang with hardworking gusto throughout the set, even as she covered considerable yardage strutting and kicking, prancing and gesticulating, pumping her hips and shaking hands with fans.

It was a show of shiny costumes and big smiles, of a huge group of dancers all sharing the same moves, an outpouring of energy that was eager to please everybody.

Lady Gaga ended it with one last strut, up a ramp, and a self-congratulatory gesture that has been used by both rappers and an ex-president: a microphone drop, earned with sweat.
