Youtube daily report Sep 26 2017

Hi, I'm Michael.

And this episode of Lessons from the Screenplay has been brought to you by Skillshare.

Everyone is familiar with the cliche elements of film noir.

A hardboiled detective sits in his office,

the shadow of venetian blinds falling across his face,

a femme fatale sitting on his desk.

Cliches I had fun playing with in a short film I made many years ago.

I had fun playing with these cliches because I love film noir, and I love sci-fi.

So it stands to reason that I love Blade Runner.

Blade Runner was the first film to truly take the thematic elements of classic film noir

and integrate them into the science fiction genre.

So today, I want to look past the common film noir cliches...

To examine how Blade Runner took these familiar tropes of the past

and used them to create its dystopian future...

And analyze how combining science fiction and film noir

helped express the complex morality at the heart of the film.

Let's take a look at Blade Runner.

The first book ever written about about film noir was published in 1955.

It describes a few prominent characteristics of film noir that show up again and again.

I want to talk about three of them, beginning with the presence of crime.

The authors wrote:

"It is the presence of crime which gives

film noir its most constant characteristic."

The inclusion of crime was not in and of itself revolutionary,

there has always been crime in Hollywood films.

The difference was how these films treated the morality of crime.

"Now the moviegoer is being presented a less severe version of the underworld,

with likable killers and corrupt cops.

Good and evil go hand in hand to the point of being indistinguishable."

Let's look at the first part of this duality,

the "likable killers."

In classic film noir, the criminals were often portrayed as sympathetic,

ordinary people put in extraordinary situations.

Blade Runner takes these criminal characters and gives them a sci-fi spin.

"There was an escape from the off-world colonies two weeks ago."

"Six replicants, three male, three female."

"They slaughter twenty-three people and jumped the shuttle."

The antagonists are the bio-engineered Nexus 6 replicants.

In the world of Blade Runner, replicants are used in off-world colonies for various tasks:

ammunition loaders, hit squads, and "pleasure" purposes…

and it's clear that they live tortured lives.

"Quite an experience to live in fear isn't it."

"That's what it is to be a slave."

Despite not being human, they're in a situation one can empathize with.

The same way classic film noir explored morality through likable killers,

Blade Runner does so through androids who kill in pursuit of freedom.

Returning to the book quote,

the other side of this duality comes from the "corrupt cops."

The inability to trust the police was often a key component

in creating the anxious, pessimistic tone of classic noir.

The same is true in Blade Runner,

where the police refer to androids in a derogatory manner...

BRYANT: "I've got four skin-jobs walking the streets."

...and are high on their absolute power.

"Stop right where you are."

"You know the score, pal?

When you're not a cop you're little people."

The "likable killers" and "corrupt cops"

help create a world where the line between right and wrong is blurred.

And at the center of their conflict is the mortal struggle inherent in all film noir.

"Few cycles in the entire history of film have put together in seven or eight years

such a mix of foul play and murder.

Sordidly or bizarrely, death always comes at the end of a tortured journey.

In every sense of the word a noir film is a film of death."

The classic film noirs often tell stories about people who are trapped,

creating a mood of inevitable doom.

"Suddenly it came over me that everything would go wrong."

"It sounds crazy Keyes, but it's true, so help me."

"I couldn't hear my own footsteps."

"It was the walk of a dead man."

This pessimistic perspective is well-suited for the dystopian world of Blade Runner.

Almost every character in the film is trapped in one way or another.

Most of humanity has abandoned Earth,

and it is suggested that many of those who remain may want to leave

but aren't allowed to do so.

"Is that why you're still on Earth?"

"Yeah. I couldn't pass the medical."

As someone who quit the police force,

Deckard has no interest in chasing down the replicants, but is forced into it.

"No choice, huh?"

"No choice, pal."

And the replicants he is chasing have a very literal doom they're trying to escape.

"What seems to be the problem?"

"Death."

As a security measure, each Nexus 6 replicant is given a four-year life span.

"I want more life, father."

Now, they're running out of time

and have returned to Earth to try to extend their lives.

The entire thematic foundation of Blade Runner is built around life and death—

not constrained to simple mortality like in classic noirs,

but expanded to examine the nature of life itself.

And just like in classic film noirs,

the ideal character to navigate this web of moral complexity is the private detective.

The private detective character was prominent in film noir

because of the function he or she could serve in the story.

"The private detective is midway between lawful society and the underworld,

walking on the brink, sometimes unscrupulous but putting only himself at risk,

fulfilling the requirements of his own code and of the genre as well."

A private detective can have legal authority,

but is also outside the law enough to navigate the dark world of the criminals.

Deckard's role as a Blade Runner serves this precise function in the film.

Blade Runners are a kind of cop that specializes

in finding and killing replicants hiding amongst the human population.

While technically a member of law enforcement,

Deckard appears to have no love for the police,

as he has to be taken into custody in order for the captain to see him.

"You wouldn't have come if I just asked you to."

At the same time, he shows empathy toward the criminals,

like when he falls for Rachel, a replicant, instead of turning her in.

RACHEL: "What if I go north? Disappear."

"Would you come after me?"

"No."

As a Blade Runner,

Deckard's character is able to explore the ambiguous moral landscape of the story,

just like the private detectives of classic noir.

In fact, the director, Ridley Scott,

compared Deckard to perhaps the most famous of film noir private detectives,

saying of the character:

"It's very Marlowe-esque and very dark."

This is of course a reference to Philip Marlowe.

"Who are you, soldier?"

"Marlowe's my name, I'm a private detective."

Some of Deckard's tactics even seem inspired by Marlowe's.

In The Big Sleep, Marlowe pretends to be a rare book snob

in order to tease out information on a lead.

"How about a Chevalier Audubon, 1840, the full set of course?"

"Not at the moment."

"You do sell books, hmm?"

In Blade Runner, Deckard pretends to be a nerdy union rep

to get access to one of the replicants he's hunting.

"Excuse me, Miss Salome, can I talk to you for a minute?"

"I'm from the American Federation of Variety Artists."

"I'm not here to make you join. No, Ma'am!"

This is the kind of deceit a police officer would not be allowed to utilize.

In their book, Borde and Chaumeton go on to describe the private detective as…

"…an inglorious victim who may suffer, before the happy ending, appalling abuse.

As such, he is far from the 'superman' of adventure films."

Deckard indeed suffers a lot of abuse,

losing as many fights as he wins, and often surviving due to luck.

(gunshot)

The abuse he suffers as the protagonist demonstrates that this world is not fair.

Whether you're a replicant fighting for freedom,

or a human trying to do what you're told is right,

ultimately you're trapped.

And because Deckard exists somewhere between the law and the criminals,

he embodies the complex morality of the story.

Able to both kill the replicants,

and also show remorse and ultimately love for them.

The film noir detective is the perfect archetype to be dragged through the dystopian world

of Blade Runner.

On the surface, Blade Runner is not a perfect film,

and I didn't like it the first time I saw it.

But once I understood the deeper premise of the story,

I appreciated how the style and mood enhanced it.

The cynical, pessimistic point of view found in classic film noirs

brought into a dystopian future.

The alienated private detective transplanted into a world

where he struggles with this new morality.

Where the law tells him to kill, but his heart pulls him toward empathy.

And the sense of doom—an inescapable march toward death—

setting the stage for a story about life.

It's a unique remix of science fiction and film noir that created the detailed, complex

world of Blade Runner.

In the beginning of the video, I mentioned a short film I made many years ago.

For any project I direct, I storyboard meticulously.

Unfortunately, I'm not the best artist.

But I recently learned some techniques that have started to improve my drawing,

and I learned them using Skillshare.

Lucie Fink Plays Would You Rather With The Merrell Twins | YouTube Challenges | Refinery29 - Duration: 5:50.

Hey, guys!

It's Lucie Fink and I'm here today with

the Merrell Twins!

Hi!

Oh my gosh, you guys are so cute.

Thank you.

First thing's first, who's who?

I'm Veronica.

And I'm Vanessa.

How could we tell you apart, please?

Most people could tell us apart by our dimples.

That's what I would say is the easiest.

So I have one deep dimple and she has two.

They're like craters in her cheeks.

Veronica has one.

Vanessa has two.

Yes.

I'm just going to remember that because

there are two S's in Vanessa.

That's what I always say to people.

Wow.

But you thought about it on your own,

—so I'm proud of you. —Okay so this is some twin telepathy

because I have a twin too,

Yeah.

But we just don't look nearly as much

alike as these two.

So I always love meeting other twins

because I feel like we have a special bond.

Yes, we do.

We already connected because you knew.

You knew.

I knew.

Okay so we're here at VidCon

and we are about to play Would You Rather?

Oh!

These two don't even know what is coming

for them and I really caution them to think

wisely before they answer

what they would rather do.

Oh no. Okay.

I have a stack of some Refinery29 cards.

Here we go.

Okay.

Okay.

Would you rather be forced to wear wet socks

for the rest of your life

or be allowed to

shower one time a year?

I feel like if I wore wet socks for the rest of my life,

I'd get sick all the time,

so I'd rather do the one shower thing a year.

One shower a year from Veronica.

What about you, Vanessa?

I would probably have to do the one shower a year too

because if you wear wet socks all the time,

they become pruny and then your skin will peel.

I'd rather be dirty than have peely skin.

Okay.

The dirtiest twins on the internet.

Okay, next one.

Would you rather not be able to talk

or not be able to see for the rest of this game?

Probably see.

She said be careful with your answer.

–You? —I like talking.

I don't know, probably see.

Alright, let's get the blindfolds out.

See?

I knew it. I knew it.

What would you do if I said I wouldn't talk?

Would you mind reaching right next to you?

Oh no.

Yup, there you go.

Alright say goodbye to those beautiful eyes.

—Bye. –Okay, bye.

Would you rather only be able to whisper

or only be able to shout?

Umm…

Tough one.

Shout.

I'm a loud talker.

We've got a shouter.

I probably would whisper.

She hates it when I talk too loud.

—She talks so loud. —She's always shushing me.

That is like my sister.

My sister is always like,

"Shh, you're being too loud."

Would you rather

take a shot of mustard

or ketchup?

Ketchup.

Yeah, probably ketchup.

Well lucky for you,

we have two shots of ketchup right here.

That's great.

No!

So don't worry about drinking the whole thing, just,

you know, quick shot.

Reach in front of you.

Actually it's a little bit higher.

Vanessa, over here.

—Oh thank you, thank you, thank you. –It's right here. It's in my hand.

There you go.

Oh no this is going to make me throw up.

Goodbye to my breakfast.

I actually don't like ketchup.

She's holding her nose.

Don't worry about taking too much.

Is Vanessa doing it?

—She already did it. —She already did it?

Vanessa's done.

Oh my gosh. I hate ketchup.

This is a struggle for me.

Are we all good, girls?

Do we have to do the mustard?

No, you're good.

I knew she was going to gag.

Wow, Vanessa you downed that ketchup.

Did I?

Yeah.

Did I?

That was awful.

Would you rather drink the water in a public restroom

toilet once a night

or have chronic bad breath syndrome?

Halitosis.

You don't have toilet water, do you?

No don't worry this is not a

"you have to do this."

Okay, toilet.

I'd do the toilet water.

I guess I would do the toilet water.

Because I'm a very self-conscious person.

If I always had bad breath,

I'd be like, "Hey."

Agreed.

Okay last question, think carefully.

Oh no.

Would you rather take a bite of a dog treat

or eat three sour Warheads?

—Three sour Warheads. —Three sour Warheads.

Alright, bring out the sour.

Oh no.

You guys are getting to cleanse your ketchup palate

—with some nice —Yes, thank goodness.

sour Warheads.

Here are your cups.

Thank you.

Are they in there?

You know what, girls?

—Take off your blindfolds for this moment. —Okay.

Alright.

—Oh my god. —Oh goodness.

At the same time?

Yeah let's open them all.

Is my tongue going to bleed?

No.

I don't think so.

Okay, ready…

—One. —don't choke.

Okay, we won't.

Go.

These faces!

What are you feeling?

A lot of saliva?

I'm feeling good.

Are you wishing you had a dog treat

right about now?

Yeah?

Uh-uh.

My lord Jesus!

My mouth is full of spit.

Of spit?

That's what happens.

Sometimes even when you just see Warheads,

your salivary glands start working.

But look, it looks like it's coming down.

It's coming down a little.

Now they're just getting sweet.

Yeah.

Aww, man.

You guys made it!

I did it. I survived.

The Merrell Twins!

You made it out alive.

—Yes! —Barely.

Give it up for them.

I downed some ketchup.

Couldn't see.

Three Warheads and a shot of ketchup later,

they're still alive.

—Bring it in, twins. —It was so much fun.

I feel like we're siblings.

—Me too. —We technically are.

We are.

—All twins are siblings. –Next time, bring your twin.

I'll bring my twin next time.

—Yes. —See ya!

Trusting God in the Impossible - Duration: 4:53.

welcome to another episode in our series on trust today we're talking about

trusting God even when things seem impossible I'm on my way to meet Lisa

now so let's go and find out what her story is all about I'm here with Lisa

and I hear you're actually quite an active and busy person so why don't you

tell us a little bit more about that well the busyness comes partially from

my terial puffy little bull terrier that doesn't stop playing ever the other part

as a kid I started acrobatics I started as well with softball and then in high

school I discovered a world of sports so I started playing cricket and then I

went on to field hockey as well I kept playing that and came to canada and i

was on the Ontario team I play goalie and you know we got to play and we

became national champions for a few years running I just kept active that way now

back with the acrobatics I know you mentioned that you had some really

specific goals around that did you reach them I did but not in the way that I

thought acrobatics became my life

then I fell ill over a very short period of time I started developing these

incredible back spasms shoulders neck overwhelming fatigue and just constant

pain whether I was moving or not I wasn't paying the only relief that we

found was I would get cortisone shots directly into the spices 10 to 14 lining

my spine and my neck and that in itself was painful but as an 11 year old kid I

was I was begging for these quarters I shot and I understand that the doctor

said you may end up in a wheelchair yes but I believed that God wouldn't give me

this talent and then allow me to fall into the pit this pit of nothingness I

believe that God would let me dance and do my aerobatic again

by the grace of God I was able to do another provincias competition and I

qualified for nationals but that's when the illness just hit really hard I could

still do the splits but my back I couldn't do hand and or any other Church

my hands I couldn't I couldn't hold off until the smaller contortion at fault

that I had to and at that level there's no way you can compete without being

able to do the other tricks time started running out I couldn't train I was in so

much pain and time came to it was the day before still wasn't able to train I

had that moment of doubt should I withdraw my parents and now we're going

to pray we're going to trust god and the morning of the Nationals I woke up as SS

can be I was able to do that the strength tricks with a contortionist I

was able to do the splits I was able to do everything else if I wanted that's

incredible but leaves out were you fully healed from that day onwards no knots

not from that day it took a bit of time and even though doctor says there's no

cure for this God did heal me fully and completely I was able to go back to high

school and suddenly I just I wanted to do everything I even started rock

climbing I just grabbed my foot both hands I was able to reach my last goal I

was qualifying for the national championships before we immigrated to

Canada and for that I can only thank God and today I have the privilege of

looking back at the medals that I got provincially nationally for acrobatics

for field hockey and I know that I don't have any bragging rights to this it's

purely the grace of God so whenever life runs away with me I can always look back

at those medals and know that it's a reminder that I can trust God even when

things seem absolutely impossible

Woman Gets Bitten 3 Times By A Venomous Copperhead Snake In Spotsylvania Restaurant - Duration: 2:38.

Hi, I'm Heathcliff and this is Lions Ground.

I hope you have a fantastic day.

A Virginia woman is still recovering after three bites from a venomous Copperhead snake.

On September 12, Rachel Myric went with her friend and family to the Longhorn Steakhouse

in Spotsylvania.

She walked through the entrance of the steakhouse.

Then she felt a sharp pain in her left foot.

She thought it was a bee sting, probably a hornet.

She tried to ignore it and at the next step, she felt an inconvenient pain.

It hurts so much that she dropped everything out of her hands

According to her, the snake didn't let go of her sandal.

When she saw the snake she panicked and screamed she's bitten by a snake

But nobody believed her Her 13-year-old son with another man killed

the snake and kept the snake secured to make sure this

is a copperhead.

She has been bitten twice in her toes and once on the side of her foot.

The copper head was about 20 CM or 8 inches long.

Rachel was released from the Mary Washington hospital on Sunday.

She needs three months to heal.

The copperhead, a venomous snake Not deadly but very painful.

Symptoms extreme pain, tingling,

throbbing, swelling,

and severe nausea.

Damage can occur to muscle and bone tissue.

The poison in the southern copperhead contains a protein called "contortrostatin"

It stops cancer cells in mice and tumors.

Only tested on animals.

The American Sam Biliter demonstrates that a snake can still bite after beheading

So stay away from it.

How to Draw a Realistic Rhino - Narrated - Duration: 3:53.

Hello my friends and welcome to another Tuesday of tutorial!

I am Leonardo Pereznieto and today we will draw a Black Rhino.

We begin by marking the top and bottom… and we make a vertical

guideline.

Then we use the same measurement, the same size as the height

for the right and left.

You may sketch two squares if you want to, also as guidelines.

The vertical line in the middle will be where the front legs arm.

We draw the back legs as well that go all the way from here.

And the other one.

And we can use some pretty straight lines for the top, and the back,

This lower part of the body goes a little bit lower,

than the knee of the back legs.

Then you can follow that line for the neck… and the lower part

of the head.

Which is curvy, and the big horn.

The upper part of the head, is also curving and that is very

characteristic of rhinos.

The rounded ears, the little eye and a pointed lip that they use

Rhinoceros are killed by people for their horns, which are bought

The horns by the way, are made of the same protein

There used to be four species of Black Rhino, but one was declared

So we have left three.

In fact between 1970 and 1992 96 percent of Black African Rhinos

Chuck McNeal Shares HSIN's Operational Impact in Louisiana - Duration: 3:24.

[Music]

We have a very robust HSIN program in Louisiana.

We use it in multifaceted aspects.

We use it for law enforcement, we use it

for our private sector outreach, we've

brought in first responders.

We have been able to customize it greatly.

You know, New Orleans is a city that obviously, because

of its history and its culture, draws

in a large array of different events that come there,

one being the NBA all-star game, and we have this thing called

Mardi Gras every year.

In a large event like the Super Bowl,

we created a HSIN platform to capture everyone's information

as they were in putting it into one spot

so that we could then share that with everyone as one spot

to get in to.

The city was doing different kinds of operations.

They also were using HSIN, so we were piggybacking

on their HSIN platform, what they've been creating,

and was able to capture the city's information along

with, really, the state and federal information

and put it in one location.

It was a very good tool at that time.

The Gulf oil spill was a very unique situation for us

because it was not on land.

The Coast Guard was the agency in charge of the response,

not the state of Louisiana.

The Coast Guard used HSIN extensively

for the entire operation.

Because we in the center used HSIN,

we actually became the component that briefed the governor

on what was going on with the information we retained

through the Coast Guard, and compiled

that information because we had readily

access to the information.

So we were doing actually a daily bulletin compiling

all the information of all the operations

in Louisiana that were being used

to support the Gulf oil spill.

We used HSIN a lot.

And the best part is, there's no cost.

I mean, in times where money is shrinking every day,

knowing that I don't have to pay a maintenance fee of 20 percent

a year for this just allows me to dedicate grant dollars

and state resources somewhere else.

So it's been a tremendous effort for us.

Internet portal about events in your city - Duration: 3:06.

In the vastness of Internet space, I met with the experience of one person. This man talked about how he tries to advertise local businesses via the Internet. He does it not by developing home pages for each of them, and through an online portal that includes advertising businesses in a certain category. In his case, is cafes and restaurants... His experience and prompted me to tell you about the following idea... The idea: create a web portal, site or page... Like this project will be called, choose. In General, this site should be placed information about various events held in the city. The database should not be limited to movies in theaters, performances, strip shows in pubs. This may include all sorts of public party businesses that are interested in expanding the circle of our customers, meeting like-minded people, training (free for free, but the paid is a separate conversation) and other meetings, which can be interesting and useful to the masses. Ie if a person has a free hour or two of time, he will be able to find a decent alternative-stop. The main benefit of such a project: a well-updated website content (content). The organizers of the meetings, in most cases, are interested in additional advertising, so they will not have to explain the benefits of this website. Ideally, such a project is similar, perhaps, to the newspaper of free announcements. Where is the planned event becomes relevant, the organizers give the necessary information about the event. I think it makes no sense to talk about the emerging field of advertising. Is the game worth the candles, you decide. By the way, this idea is not confined only to the Internet space. The fact that I myself suggested this idea in the form of a weekly newspaper... lying... offered to organize any perceived idea, despite the potential for its failure, but I refused because I was scared of this failure. On this note, I wish you and myself to be more courageous in making important decisions...

Solving Quadratics by Using the Quadratic Formula - Duration: 6:55.

Professor Dave here, let's derive the quadratic formula.

For several tutorials we have been learning how to solve quadratics.

Some are easy.

Four X squared equals sixty-four requires just a few steps.

Working from the outside in, we divide both sides by four, take the square root, and X

equals plus or minus four.

If we take the same expression but add an X term, it gets trickier.

We just saw how we can sometimes solve polynomials by factoring or by completing the square,

but there are times when neither of these strategies will be especially easy or even

possible to perform.

In general, it would be nice to have another method where we can solve by brute force rather

than having to perform some algorithm.

We need an equation where we can simply plug in the coefficients of the expression and

get the solution.

Fortunately, there is such an equation.

It's called the quadratic formula.

But instead of simply looking at it, let's derive the equation, as derivations always

help us appreciate the beauty of math that much more.

Let's start with a general polynomial equation, AX squared plus BX plus C equals zero, where

A is not equal to zero.

Let's try to complete the square, just as we learned before, but with this general form

instead of a specific example.

Remember, the first thing we would do is divide everything by A, because it's easier if

there is no coefficient operating on the X squared term.

That means we get X squared plus B over A times X plus C over A equals zero.

Then as usual, we bring the last term to the other side of the equation.

Now remember that in order to complete the square, we take this term, cut it in half,

and then square it.

It may seem trickier with variables instead of numbers, but it's really the same thing,

so we get B over two A, since dividing by two just puts a two in the denominator, and

then squaring gives us B squared over four A squared.

This term will be added to both sides.

Now on the left, we have a perfect square, so let's factor it and get X plus B over

two A quantity squared, while on the right, we can multiply C over A by four A over four

A so that we end up with the same denominator for both fractions, allowing us to combine

them into one fraction.

Now we can take the square root of both sides.

For the left, that just gets rid of the exponent.

On the right, instead of one big radical, we can put one on the numerator and one on

the denominator.

The numerator can't be simplified, so let's leave the plus/minus there, but the denominator

is a perfect square, so we can change that into two A. Now we just subtract this term

on the left from both sides to get X alone, recognize that these have the same denominator

so we combine them, and there we have it, the famous quadratic formula.

Even though you just learned how to derive this, it is still a good idea to memorize

it, so repeat after me.

X equals the opposite of B plus or minus the square root of B squared minus four AC all

over two A. The reason this equation is useful is that we can take any quadratic, plug A,

B, and C into this formula, and it will spit out the solutions to the equation.

Let's try one example now.

X squared plus two X minus three.

Now we should be able to see from our knowledge of factoring that this can easily be expressed

as X minus one times X plus three, meaning that the solutions are one and negative three.

But let's plug the coefficients into the quadratic formula to make sure it works.

A is one, B is two, and C is negative three, so let's just replace all of these variables

with the corresponding numbers.

Now we just simplify step by step.

Let's combine everything under the radical to get sixteen, take the square root which

is four, and now we have two answers, negative two plus four over two, or negative two minus

four over two.

These give us two over two and negative six over two, which is one and negative three,

so the formula works.

There are analogous formulas for cubic and quartic functions, but they are pretty complicated,

so we can just stick to this one for quadratics.

Remember, this can be used for any quadratic, so when factoring is impossible, or you just

don't feel like doing it, this formula will be your friend.

The arithmetic can get a little messy sometimes, and if you end up with a negative number for

the discriminant, which is the B squared minus four AC term under the radical, you will have

to conclude that there are no real solutions to the quadratic, since we can't take the

square root of a negative number.

In such a case, you could express the solution using imaginary numbers, which we will learn

about later.

But whatever the case, if you prefer this method to actually completing the square yourself,

then memorize the formula and plug away.

Let's check comprehension.

Marc Compeau and Teaching First Year Students at Clarkson University - Duration: 1:42.

I deal with all of our first years students.

I usually have them their first day of class and they come in naive and excited.

They have their favorite shirt on, their brand new notebook and then I say "Alright here

are the rules, go out and build a company see you Wednesday."

What happens in that first 48 hours is they learn how to work as a group.

They learn how to explore problems.

How to identify opportunities and then how to begin to build a robust business concept

that is based on a problem.

That tends to ignite some passion.

I have the students go out for the first few weeks and look for problems because that's

where value is.

If you solve a problem people will trade things usually money for that solution.

So, to get the students to think about identification of a problem and then about a solution for

that problem is the way to make them innovative.

We also expose them to intellectual property.

Patents.

Not to just fear them because they re strict but a patent discloses so based on that disclosure

they may discover a way to actually improve upon an existing intellectual property and

discover something new and exciting.

I think the most important thing for a entering student to think about when they arrive is

that this is the safest place to fail.

We are setup to allow for failure.

This is a safe structure.

You are not going to lose your home!

You are still going to be able to feed your family.

If you barrow funds here and it doesn't quite work out it's not debt that is going to chase

you.

You have got so much people and resources that are around you that designed to support

that first adventure so even if it does fail it's a tremendous amount of learning.

So, come to Clarkson not afraid to fail.

Push your boundries.

Be brave and try something new and exciting!

Replacement, soldering the headphone connector on the laptop - Duration: 6:16.

Hello my friends.

I welcome you to ArtBelChannel channel.

Today, we will change

headphone connector on the motherboard board from Sony laptop.

See worth two slots one whole, the other shattered which!

Whole I have available No order for a long time customer.

So let's try

change the connector from the microphone on the headphone space.

To begin, we put on all legs flux, flux I rma-223.

Next take soldering station

hair dryer to expose about

300 degrees

and warm up All contacts.

The slot can press but it is not necessary to pull out,

until it begins to wobble.

If all of the flux can be dried it even pour.

And then the connector with ease simply drops.

This connector we vypayat

I melted a little under

due to the high temperature,

therefore, the second connector that we need to deliver.

We initially apply on rose alloy contacts

thereby lowering the temperature solder melting

to about 90 degrees.

Again, plot the flux and so almost before each operation

like old from heat loses their properties.

And just take on the soldering tip alloy

and mix it with the solder on the contacts.

And so propaivaem all contacts.

Next, we take a hair dryer set already at 200 degrees

and slowly Gray connector.

As you can see the connector was whole,

contacts do not fall out, and plastic does not melt.

After a little fee cool it is desirable to remove all flux that has remained.

After we put a new one for To remove the old solder,

delete it, we will a braid for desoldering.

Link to it, I will leave in the description so as the whole tool.

Just take and each contact warm up,

thereby solder rises and remains on the shield.

This is how slowly we got such empty slots.

And now you can start to install the new connector.

Puts it below

little it is supported and solder the end of the first one.

The second side also push Little

and the connector into place.

Yes forgot to mention flux also for soldering needs.

And so propaivaem each contact, Tin can not spare.

After finally washed out a fee

and this is how to change the connector.

All carefully!

As I said a reference to the whole instrument and headphone jacks

will be in the description!

For the work we put LikE and subscribe Canal.

Today we'll get familiar with MTB trails in Vuokatti!

Greetings from Vuokatti, Kainuu!

We are going for a MTB ride here -

- with Severi who acts also as my guide.

We are now here at Vuokatti Training center and heading

to one of the cross country skiing routes.

Let's see!

I'm stuck!

The most wet place so far!

Locating ourselves...

Now he is taking me up to the competition trails!

Yes - thanks for the ride!

Good ride - some 13 km:s

Enough elevation - at least for me

This kind of routes you can find here -

Quite wide XC skiing paths, not so technical for a biker.

The challenge is the elevation and today -

- also the trails we quite wet as you saw.

Some cleaning to do.

Thank you for watching -

- Please give a thumb up if you liked it!

See you next week - bye!

Gamper & Dadoni - Creep (ft. Ember Island) | Lyrics - Duration: 2:56.

GAMPER & DADONI - Creep (ft. Ember Island)

When you were here before

Couldn't look you in the eye

You're just like an angel

Your skin makes me cry

You float like a feather

In a beautiful world

I wish I was special

You're so very special

But I'm a creep

I'm a weirdo

What the hell am I doing here?

I don't belong here

I don't belong here

I don't care if it hurts

I want to have control

I want a perfect body

I want a perfect soul

I want you to notice

When I'm not around

I wish I was special

You're so very special

But I'm a creep

I'm a weirdo

What the hell am I doing here?

I don't belong here

I don't belong here

I don't belong here

But I'm a creep

I'm a weirdo

What the hell am I doing here?

I don't belong here

A brief history of banned numbers - Alessandra King - Duration: 4:43.

They say the pen is mightier than the sword,

and authorities have often agreed.

>From outlawed religious tracts and revolutionary manifestos

to censored and burned books,

we know the potential power of words to overturn the social order.

But as strange as it may seem,

some numbers have also been considered dangerous enough to ban.

Our distant ancestors long counted objects using simple tally marks.

But as they developed agriculture and began living together in larger groups,

this was no longer enough.

As numbers grew more complex,

people began not just using them, but thinking about what they are

and how they work.

And by 600 B.C.E. in Ancient Greece, the study of numbers was well-developed.

The mathematician Pythagoras and his school of followers

found numerical patterns in shapes, music, and the stars.

For them, mathematics held the deepest secrets of the universe.

But one Pythagorean named Hippasus discovered something disturbing.

Some quantities, like the diagonal of a square with sides of length one

couldn't be expressed by any combination of whole numbers or fractions,

no matter how small.

These numbers, which we call irrational numbers,

were perceived as a threat

to the Pythagorean's notion of a perfect universe.

They imagined a reality that could be described

with rational, numerical patterns.

Historians write that Hippasus was exhiled for publicizing his findings,

while legends claim he was drowned as punishment from the gods.

While irrational numbers upset philosophers,

later mathematical inventions would draw attention

from political and religious authorities, as well.

In the Middle Ages, while Europe was still using Roman numerals,

other cultures had developed positional systems

that included a symbol for zero.

When Arab travelers brought this system to the bustling maritime cities of Italy,

its advantages for merchants and bankers was clear.

But the authorities were more wary.

Hindu-Arabic numerals were considered easier to forge or alter,

especially since they were less familiar to customers than to merchants.

And the concept of zero opened the door to negative numbers

and the recording of debt

at a time when moneylending was regarded with suspicion.

In the 13th century, Florence banned the use of Hindu-Arabic numerals

for record keeping.

And though they soon proved too useful to ignore,

controversies over zero and negative numbers

continued for a long time.

Negative numbers were dismissed as absurd

well into the 19th century.

And prominent mathematicians, like Gerolamo Cardano,

avoided using zero,

even though it would have made it much easier to find solutions

to cubic and the quartic equations.

Even today it's illegal to use some numbers for different reasons.

Some are banned because of what they represent.

For example, governments have prohibited the display of numbers

that have symbolic meaning,

such as the date of a revolution

or connections to oppositional political figures or parties.

Other numbers are potentially illegal because of the information they carry.

Just about any information,

whether text,

image,

video,

or executable programs can be translated into a string of numbers.

But this means that protected information,

whether copyrights,

proprietary materials,

or state secrets

can also be represented as numbers,

so possessing or publishing these numbers may be treated as a criminal offense.

This idea gathered attention in 2001

when code that could be used to decrypt DVDs

was widely shared and distributed in the form of a large prime number.

The idea of illegal numbers may sound absurd,

but like words,

written numbers are a way of expressing concepts and information.

And in a world where calculations and algorithms

shape more and more of our lives,

the mathematician's pencil grows stronger by the day.

LEGO Batman Movie The Joker Manor set - My Thoughts! - Duration: 1:44.

Hello, just2good here, and a surprise reveal has come along!

The 2018 Direct to Consumer LEGO Batman Movie The Joker Manor set!

This sucker retails for two hundred and seventy dollars,

but comes with three thousand four hundred and forty four pieces.

This will have no early release but rather a release on Black Friday 2017 -

November 24th.

What do I think?

This set looks FUN as heck.

I mean, it looks messy with the joker takeover but in a pleasent way.

I love the brick built Joker logo and the brick built HA HA!

in terms of things that will make it look good on display, but of course,

I think everyone's favorite part of this will be the rollercoaster.

They use new rollercoaster track pieces and cart pieces,

which gives me hope that we will get more LEGO rollercoasters in the future.

The whole inside is great.

You get the middle section which is the Joker's stuff,

but the sides have the rooms we'd expect from Warne Manor.

There's lots of easter eggs here.

I love the theater with Forever Sorting 2,

a sequel to a movie in the Palace Cinema set.

There's a box for Bat Merch and Wylde Style -

which is funny, implying this is after Batman and Wyldstyle's

break up in the LEGO Movie.

Of course, I love other little builds like the beat boxing studio,

and microwave from the movie.

There's a new mirror piece as well which looks interesting.

There's also a hidden slide and mechanism

to activate the rollercoaster carts.

This looks SUPER fun.

And, there seems to be an inclusion of the eye of sauron for some reason.

This isn't from the actual movie's Joker Manor,

but to avoid copyright,

the press release just calls it the big eye.

I dunno, honestly, I don't like its inclusion.

Looks odd.

Of course, for the minifigures,

we finally get Nightwing and Alfred in the classic Batsuit.

And, the Friends are Family Disco suits,

which also have new face prints.

I guess LEGO wont be putting these in LEGO Batman Movie Minifigures Series 2.

I like how they edited the box to make it look like the Joker vandalised it,

which is fitting for the setting.

So, alas, will I buy it?

Yeah, I will.

Not sure if I'll get it this year, but we'll see.

This looks too fun to pass up.

Anyways, you can go to Brickset for the press release.

I'll see you guys later.

Peace out, bye.

Is Jesus God, Or Just A god? - Duration: 2:27.

Christians often appeal to John 1:1 as a proof

text for Jesus' divinity because it says,

"the Word, Jesus, was God."

But Jehovah Witnesses argue this proof fails

because the translation is wrong.

The correct translation, they say, is,

"the Word was a god," since the original

Greek doesn't have the definite article, the, before God

—it reads theos, God, and not ho theos, the God.

They conclude from this that Jesus is a lesser

divinity and not Jehovah.

So how do we respond?

Well first, if the JWs are so insistent on this translating

principle, then why, out of the six times

theos appears without the definite article

in John 1, do they translate it as "a god"

only once—in reference to the Word?

Sounds to me like an

interpolation instead of a translation.

Second, in Greek the definite article is prefixed

to the subject, not the predicate; and in

this clause, "the Word was God," "God"

is the predicate and "the Word" is the subject.

Finally, if John wanted to deny Jesus' divinity,

well then why does he refer to Jesus as

"the God" in other places?

For example, he writes in 1 John 5:20: "We

are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ.

This is the true God ,ho alēthinos theos, in Greek."

Or how about John 20:28 where John records

Thomas' address to Jesus, which in Greek

reads, "The Lord of me and the God [ho theos] of me."

So, be at peace my Christian friends, you

don't have to go to a Kingdom Hall this Sunday.

Is There Biblical Proof For The Immaculate Conception? - Duration: 2:27.

The Immaculate Conception is a Catholic dogma

that many Protestants have a hard time accepting.

They claim it shouldn't be believed because

it's not found in Scripture.

Even though we as Catholics don't believe

every Christian belief must be found explicitly

in Scripture, I do think we can provide a

biblical basis for the dogma, which can be

helpful for our Protestant friends.

Recall how in Genesis 3:15, after the fall,

God promised to set enmity, total opposition

or separation, between "the woman" and Satan,

between the woman's seed and Satan's seed.

Now, if the woman is separated from Satan

and is not of his seed, well then that means she's

free from Satan's dominion—that's to

say, she's not tainted by sin in any way.

Moreover, "woman" seems to be a title for Eve

in her pre-fall state, as is the case in Genesis 2:23.

She isn't called Eve until after the fall in Genesis 3:20.

The "woman" that God speaks of is a new Eve

like the first Eve before the fall—without

the stain of original sin.

Now, "Who's this woman?"

Well, God tells us the seed of this new woman,

which is a hint to the woman being a virgin,

is going to crush the head of Satan and that

Satan would bruise his heel.

So, we have a virgin, giving birth to a male child

who will defeat Satan but will suffer in the process.

My friends, this new woman, or New Eve, is Mary.

Just like the first woman was created without

original sin, so too the new woman, Mary, was

created without original sin—that is to

say, immaculately conceived.

The tip of the horn will get all the way to the line on the left.

We draw the back legs as well that go all the way from here.

And the other one.

And we can use some pretty straight lines for the top, and the back,

and the butt [laughter].

This lower part of the body goes a little bit lower,

than the knee of the back legs.

Then you can follow that line for the neck… and the lower part

of the head.

Which is curvy, and the big horn.

The upper part of the head, is also curving and that is very

characteristic of rhinos.

The rounded ears, the little eye and a pointed lip that they use

to pull branches.

I´m sketching some of the main muscles, because this will help me

make it look more realistic, once I shade it.

Rhinos are one of the oldest groups of mammals.

Virtually leaving fossils.

Once they have grown up there is not predator that will attack them.

Their only enemies, really, are humans.

Rhinoceros are killed by people for their horns, which are bought

and sold in the black market

especially in East Asia, and mainly in Vietnam.

The horns by the way, are made of the same protein

as our hair and fingernails.

There used to be four species of Black Rhino, but one was declared

completely extinct in 2011.

So we have left three.

In fact between 1970 and 1992 96 percent of Black African Rhinos

were killed.

And they seemed to be doomed for the extinction.

However, a conservation organization took action! The World Wild Found for

Nature.

Better known as WWF.

Thanks to this organization and to the help of others, the Black Rhinos

are still here.

But the poachers and their greed has been increasing, and these great animals

are critically endangered.

But now you can help!

Visit wwf.org and become a member.

You can adopt a Rhino.

Figuratively [laughter].

You can make a difference to save them!

Very good!

¡Excelente!

As you saw we have been shading.

He has a thick skin, and in areas like the face

you can have fun, making a lot of wrinkles.

I love drawing animals so much!

I sketched some grass for the setting,

pull some lights with the eraser, and it´s ready!

If you enjoyed it, please give it a LIKE! share it to your

friends, and subscribe to Fine Art-Tips.

And I will see you, on Tuesday ;)
