"I Am Dead" Time capsules are supposed to take you back

in time; they're not supposed to send horrifying chills down your spine.

But that's what a glass bottle time capsule found near a former elementary school in Albuquerque,

New Mexico did to its unfortunate finders.

The capsule, from 1968, was discovered by a demolition crew.

The letters encapsulated within were from kids - more than likely the kids that attended

Montgomery Elementary.

Most of the letters were about the youngsters' favorite bands and TV shows.

But one of the children, by the name of Greg Lee Youngman, went a much more creepy route.

The letter begins: "I am dead," after which Greg goes on

to say that he was born in 1900, and his favorite subject is "spooking the police."

The ten year old signs off: "See you later savages."

Considering the date of birth, the knowledge that Greg was ten years old at the time of

writing, and the fact that the capsule was buried in 1968…well, you do the math.

When the time capsule was opened, several people in their 50s and 60s came by to see

if it was their class time capsule that had been unearthed.

Many left unsatisfied.

It seems creating these things had been a favorite pastime at Montgomery Elementary.

One wonders if Greg Lee Youngman was among the former students who showed up.

14.

Deep Freeze A hapless customer who purchased a freezer

from her neighbor discovered something she probably wishes she hadn't.

The North Carolina woman purchased the sealed freezer for $30 from her 56-year-old neighbor,

Marcella Lee.

Marcella told her not to remove the tape until some church members came by to collect the

contents, which she said were for a "Sunday school project".

After a couple weeks passed with not a church member to be seen, the woman obviously didn't

want to wait any longer to use the freezer she'd purchased.

When she opened it up, she discovered a time capsule of sorts: the remains of Lee's mother,

who had passed away from natural causes.

Lee walked away from the deal with a felony charge, while the neighbor walked away with

a tainted freezer.

13.

Mental Hospital Found Footage When you come across a time capsule buried

in the grounds of an abandoned mental hospital, you know it has to contain something unnerving.

That's what construction workers found in Indiana, when they dug up a time capsule from

1958.

In it, they discovered footage with a group of people talking about what future psychiatric

medication and electroshock therapy might look like.

They believed that progression of psychiatric science would happen fast.

The medical workers said: "When future psychiatrists find this capsule, only then it will be possible

to know how treatment problems were resolved, not only today but also in future."

Unfortunately, the tapes's audio was damaged, so the conversation isn't complete.

But we can assure these theorists that electroshock therapy did go through a transformation since

this time capsule was buried in 1958.

Specifically, new standards of consent were initiated, along with the recommendation of

unilateral electrode placement.

12.

Serial Killer's Trophies A man and his metal detector were navigating

the woods.

While he likely expected to find treasure of some kind, what he didn't expect was

to come across a time capsule…and one of the most lurid variety.

The man uncovered a plastic time capsule wrapped in tape and filled with a teddy bear, clothing,

photos, a camera, and a Girls Pee Wee softball medallions from 2003.

In essence, a young girl's belongings.

While one might hope that the girl buried the belongings herself, the man that recovered

them felt creeped out enough about the discovery to report it to the park ranger.

Why?

Because they could very well be the "trophies" of a serial killer.

They often hold onto mementos of the people whose lives they've taken, and this so-called

time capsule could possibly have been stashed away in the forest.

The police did get back to the man to inform him that they believed the items were more

likely to be memorabilia for a time capsule left by their owner, due to the fact that

the area was highly populated.

They did affirm that the items would be tested for DNA and run through the records of open

cases to see if there were any matches.

Couldn't find any further reports of this particular time capsule, but let's hope

that the police's theory was correct.

11.

There Will Be Blood A space art pioneer, French artist-scientist

Jean-Marc Philippe, proposed the idea of this epic space time capsule, which became known

as the KEO.

It would hold messages from planet Earth to the citizens of the future - the very distant

future, 50,000 years from now, to be exact.

This is when the time capsule, once launched, will eventually re-enter the Earth's atmosphere.

But messages aren't the only thing that will be launched with the satellite.

A drop of human blood will be chosen at random and placed in a diamond, on which the human

genome's DNA will be engraved.

While this all sounds pretty cool, there's something exceptionally creepy about sending

a drop of a random person's blood into space.

Will it be used for cloning in the future?

If so, maybe a random person isn't the best way to go.

10.

Dear Diary Have you ever found spine-tingling messages

hidden around your home?

When this woman decided to remodel her room, she certainly wasn't expecting it to be

haunted by messages past.

While this isn't a time capsule in the literal sense, it is a moment, a memory, captured

in time by the children who once lived in this house.

Lauren and Megan wrote their diary-like time capsule on the subfloor of their room.

The two girls first introduced themselves cordially, and then they cryptically warned

the subsequent owners of this home from doing just what the new owner was doing: tearing

up the floor.

Why the warning?

Who knows.

But beneath, she found additional warnings, as well as a virtual diary of these girls'

existence.

One warning read: "The house is green.

If it's a different color paint it GREEN."

Don't know why that's so creepy, but it just is.

In other notes, the girls wrote about their passed away cat, an episode where Lauren broke

her arm, and they even posted photographs of relatives and friends.

While some of the notes may seem innocent enough, darkness crept into a few of the messages,

including a photo of their mother who, according to the girls, lived in their house "at one

point."

One of them also said their family had "a lot of disagreements," which led her to

apologize for the dents in the walls.

The girls warned against ghostly visits and claimed the ghosts especially didn't care

for CSI:NY.

They also said their passed away grandad was prone to haunting the place.

And, perhaps, they do too.

9.

Dante's Inferno When you dig into your family history, you

would never want to find something deeply unsettling.

That's what one Imgur user found when poking around his grandma's house.

He came across a cupboard in her ceramics room that seemed to have a false bottom.

It turned out that the false bottom concealed a safe.

He told his grandmother about what he'd discovered, asking if she knew what it held

or if she remembered the combination.

She didn't know either, but she told him to go ahead and pry it open, which he did

with a chisel.

Inside was a time capsule, old and corroded, having been buried for years.

They deduced that the time capsule had been concealed by the man's grandpa.

Within was a black bag that included a seriously disturbing note, the message of which read:

"Abandon All Regret Ye Who Enter Here."

This line comes straight out of Dante's Inferno.

The man entered the time capsule anyhow.

Chinese calligraphy was written on the black bag, which when translated meant, "Double

happiness."

A myriad of other items were inside, including odds and ends.

There was also a strange key without any clue as to what it belonged to.

It seems the mystery to this time capsule does not end here.

Do we dare to enter further?

8.

Atomic Bomb Fingernail When Panasonic and a Newspaper company planted

a time capsule at the Osaka Castle during the Japan World Expo in 1970, they wanted

to ensure that the future knew all about the past.

Even the most devastating parts.

The electronic company actually buried two time capsules, both with the same items inside.

One was to be opened in the year 2000 and is set to be opened every century for inspection

and cleaning.

The other was designed to remain unearthed for 5,000 years - that's in 6970.

The project's aim is to time travel a visual record of life in 1970, with the capsules

holding 2,098 objects each, including items recorded, such as civilization's achievements

in the form of literature, art, and music, and "everyday life" Japan, including the

aspirations of ordinary and extraordinary people.

Each of these items were preserved, using the most advanced preservation techniques

at the time of burial.

While most of the contents inside are pretty tame, including a slinky and items belonging

to natural and social sciences, others like glass eyes and a blackened fingernail from

an atomic bomb survivor might have future peoples wondering.

While Hiroshima's devastation will probably serve as a reminder every hundred years as

to the destruction of a nuclear bomb, a photograph could have also done the job.

7.

Crystal Ball Most time capsules, when found years later,

tell a story about the past.

But this one predicted the future.

A times capsule from 1935, in the form of a lemonade bottle, revealed a note predicting

dark days to come.

The note was discovered during construction of some stonework at the UK's Southampton

Guildhall in 2016.

The predictions were written in pencil by three amateur fortune tellers - Fred Pearce,

George Groves, and Stanley Jeffery.

"Mussolini threatens war," they wrote.

While Mussolini had already risen to power by 1935, it wasn't until 1940 that Mussolini's

regime officially entered into the war on the side of Germany.

Fortunately, for Britain, Europe, and the entire world, Mussolini and the Axis Powers'

downfall came in 1945, ten years after this prediction was written.

Mussolini, himself, was captured, along with his mistress, as he tried to flee to Switzerland.

6.

Socialist Time Capsule It's Russia, 2012.

A message to the Soviet youth of the world in 2024 from the Soviets in the 1970s.

What did these youths have to say to each other?

Handwritten on a big sheet of paper, the message from comrades past offered encouraging words

and confidence in its future readers that they'd be "better" than those writing

the letter.

"We say to you, who will join us in 45 years…we do not feel sorry for ourselves because we

are certain you will be better than us.

Improve the world and yourself in the name of communism,"

This is just one of many time capsules placed beneath Lenin statues.

During Soviet times, doing so was very popular.

This particular capsule was found during some renovations of the foundation below the statue,

coincidentally 33 years to the day that it was buried.

The burial took place on July 15, 1979, and it was rediscovered on July 15, 2012.

The letter signs off: "Lenin is always with us!"

5.

Old Missile Sometimes it's not the contents of a time

capsule that are terrifying; rather, it's the container.

In 2017, a WWII missile was discovered by crews in New York, prompting police to evacuate

the area between 21st street and 5th and 6th avenues, as a bomb squad rushed in to investigate.

But what they found was a time capsule with papers inside.

The suspicious item in question really was a fake bomb painted green.

The owner of a famous nightclub called Danceteria, had purchased it from an Army Navy store,

hung it from the nightclub's ceiling in the 1980s, and later turned the thing into

a time capsule.

In 1984, photos and letters by New York creatives and trendsetters of the day were placed in

the time capsule at the commencement party, to be read 10,000 years later.

Then, the group buried the capsule under a parking spot in a nearby gravel lot, where

the thing was pretty much forgotten.

When a lieutenant with the NYPD bomb squad called the owner more than three decades later,

it wasn't with good news: the photos and letters inside the time capsule were largely

destroyed, as water had entered the bombshell.

However, the news could have been worse: at least, the squad wasn't dealing with something

real.

4.

Crystal Ball II Another time capsule that contained accurate

predictions of the future was discovered this time in Sydney, Australia.

Hidden in the bathroom wall of a house in 1995, the predictions were written by Greg

Wilkinson on Easter Sunday.

The beginning of the letter lists the cost of milk and bread in 1995 and describes the

laptop he composed the letter on: a 486 Laptop with 8mb RAM and a 240 MB Hard Drive.

Greg then went on to discuss the politics and trends of the time, after which came his

eerie predictions.

He wrote that a "holy war" would be ignited and also wrote that China would become a superpower.

Considering the nation was, at the time, behind many in terms of economic size, this was quite

a surprising prediction to make.

At present, China's economy is second only to the United States.

When Greg was contacted about the letter's discovery, he felt a little violated by its

public revelation.

But then, he thought, all things considered, this just goes to show the progress of communication

via the internet.

3.

Crypt of Civilization This time capsule is a whole chamber, known

as the Crypt of Civilization.

The name is creepy, in and of itself.

Conceived by Thornwell Jacobs - aka "the father of the modern time capsule" - and

inspired by the 1920s excavations of the Egyptian pyramid and tombs, the chamber was sealed

airtight between 1937 and 1940, when it was built at Brookhaven, Georgia, and designed

to be re-opened in 8113 AD.

This date was so chosen, because 6,177 years had passed between the conception of the Egyptian

calendar in 4241 BC (a date that has since been discredited) and the year of Jacobs'

conception of the crypt in 1936 AD.

Thus, for some reason, Jacobs thought 6,177 years into the future from 1936 was symbolic.

Thus, 8113.

At 2,000 cubic feet, the chamber is situated in the granite bedrock of the Gothic-style

Phoebe Hearst Memorial Hall.

The room is chock full of documents and artifacts, many of which were donated to the crypt, and

sealed by a welded stainless steel door.

Some of the scariest artifacts included come in the form of voice recordings, specifically

those of dictators.

Perhaps, the crypt's creators want to ensure the future knows truly about the heart of

darkness in civilizations past.

In fact, Jacobs wrote in his note for future excavators of the crypt: "The world is engaged

in burying our civilization forever, and here in this crypt we leave it to you."

Hopefully, our civilization isn't "buried forever" too soon.

2..

WWII Time Capsule What kind of memorabilia would you expect

to find buried in a time capsule at a former German training center?

The time capsule is said to have been buried deep in the cement in 1934 during the building's

construction, perfectly preserving the horrors of the past, along with newspaper clippings,

old coins, a historical book of the town, and pictures of the dictator.

Although researchers have long known the capsule was there, they had to bypass German mines,

concrete, and ground water to get to it.

When they finally did, they still had to take a chainsaw to it to find out what was inside.

If you're the type who wishes to bury the past, this is one time capsule you'd probably

like to leave deep in the dirt, where it belongs.

Mummified Remains A mysterious steam trunk was discovered in

2010 by two women cleaning out an apartment building basement, and it appeared to be like

a time capsule from the 1930s.

But most mysterious and creepy of all were the mummified remains of two babies.

An investigation discovered that the trunk's owner was Janet M. Barrie, who immigrated

to America from Scotland in the 1920s and passed away in 1992.

Early on, some thought the owner might be linked to J.M. Barrie, the author of Peter

Pan, but despite the fact that the trunk also contained Peter Pan memorabilia, that theory

was ruled out.

Why were the babies placed inside the trunk?

And whose were they?

The answer was left up to LA Police Chief Charlie Beck, who continued his investigation,

saying: "Justice, even when delayed, is still justice."

As it turned out, after testing DNA samples with living relatives, Janet was, in fact,

the mother of the two babies.

But it is still unclear why she kept these babies' remains.

"You don't know the real story behind the story, you know what I mean?" her nephew,

Holmes, said.

"You can only speculate."

And speculate, we will…

Fermi Paradox: The Oceanic Universe - Duration: 5:04.

it used to be that earth was largely seen as nothing particularly special in

the days before the existence of exoplanets had been confirmed what we

knew nothing about exoplanets the general consensus was that there was no

reason for analogs of Earth to not be very common in the universe at large but

as we've learned more about exoplanets and the planets of our solar system it

seems increasingly likely that earth is an exceedingly rare type of planet at

first this may seem counterintuitive after all early in the solar system's

history it hosted three very similar worlds with liquid water present on

their surfaces but only one world earth kept it long enough for an intelligent

civilization to arise Venus on the other hand went into a runaway greenhouse

effect losing its water and Mars was simply not large enough to maintain a

long-term ocean this brings exoplanets into question unless they have exactly

the right conditions to maintain liquid water long term then intelligent life

seems unlikely to have time to develop on those worlds but there may be more

factors at play that might also determine the outcome of life on an

exoplanet one of those could be the presence of a large moon one thing that

may make earth a rare type of planet is that we have a really large moon one of

the largest in the solar system so much so that it's been suggested that the

Earth Moon system might better be classed as a double planet and the

circumstances of just how our moon came about sets it apart from the origins of

any other object in the solar system scientists think that the moon was born

when a roughly mars-sized object collided with proto-earth early in the

solar system's history in a kind of glancing blow the forming moon happened

to settle in an orbit that stabilizes Earth's spin but also caused tides to

occur which may have affected the development of life on Earth though the

specifics of that are unknown but there is something else at play here

plate tectonics plate tectonics on earth are somewhat of a mystery it appears

that it's probably a phenomenon associated more with larger planets and

earth is borderline and that may only be because of this planet's abundant water

in contrast venus does not currently appear to have plate

tonics however even though it's comparable to earth and size though it's

possible it may have had it in the past when it's thought to have had liquid

water as well without plate tectonics earth would look very different

perhaps a water world with only occasional volcanoes breaking the

surface but it might also be a lifeless world because of the lack of a carbon

cycle this may mean that habitable exoplanets with liquid water oceans are

commonly super earth water worlds and that true analogs of Earth are very rare

this solution to the Fermi paradox has interesting implications if the presence

of plate tectonics and a large moon formed through a specific kind of

collision are necessary for life to achieve intelligence then civilizations

would be extremely rare but ocean worlds wouldn't be providing plenty of chances

for oceanic life to arise while it's debatable whether oceanic life can ever

achieve high levels of intelligence and civilization earth does provide some

clues on the one hand most of Earth's oceanic intelligence comes from animals

that evolved to go back into the ocean for land but at the same time we have

octopuses and squid which can be very intelligent but haven't built any

rockets yet but a phocion life did evolve intelligence and some kind of

civilization on an ocean world there may be little way for them to make that

civilization technological you need a suitable environment to create

technology and water is by no means ideal but it may go deeper than that if

our solar system is any indicator most ocean worlds are not located within the

habitable zones of their stars these environments are the ice shell moons

like Europa and Enceladus and quite a few others within the solar system

well it's by no means clear if these places can harbor a complex life there

may be factors that keep life in these waters microbial if such a place could

evolve an intelligent species though then that species not only may never

become technological they may never even know there's a universe outside their

ocean rather the universe as they saw it would end at a giant wall of ice perhaps

someday we'll drop by and rescue them thanks for listening I am futurist and

science fiction author John Michael Cody a currently envious of ocean life one

line of thinking is that the reason that ocean life doesn't usually develop and

tell is because they have it too easy and

it's simply not needed look at a clam all it needs to do is sit there and

filter to get by at least until the humans have a clambake and be sure to

The Golden State Warriors Owner is Talking Cash Sh#t Again - Duration: 1:18.

For Complex News, I'm Pierce Simpson // With three championships in the last four seasons

is pretty easy to consider the Golden State Warriors the latest dynasty in NBA history.

But like many dynasties of years past, the Warriors success has created plenty of haters

and the latest statements from Warriors owner Joe Lacob won't create any new fans.

Fresh off of the surprise signing of DeMarcus Cousins which could create a starting five

full of MVPs, All-NBA players and All-Stars - Warriors owner Joe Lacob provided an interesting

quote to the Athletic:

"There's a lot of market inefficiencies in the NBA.

Other teams could have gotten Cousins, but they didn't.

There's always going to be some sort of opportunity, some inefficiency, I believe.

We're still really hungry.

"That's what people should be worried about if they're going to be worried about anything."

Joe Lacob is no stranger to speaking his mind, like back in 2016 when he said that the Warriors

were "light years" ahead of the rest of the NBA.

But considering what the Warriors have done since then, like signing Kevin Durant and

winning two championships... it doesn't seem like he was wrong.

The Warriors have been caught up in plenty of interesting headlines this off-season like

the DeMarcus Cousins singing or Kevin Durant arguing with a teenager via Instagram and

Stephen Curry admitting that this latest Finals victory was his toughest one.

It's crazy that we are in the middle of the offseason and we've had incredible NBA stories

every week so far... never a dull moment...

Lab Notes July 24th - Optimizing sodium, making HBr, and The Clevenger - Duration: 10:02.

Greetings fellow nerds.

Time for another review of what i've been doing in the lab and my notes on it.

Let me give a brief recap of projects i've been working on.

The biggest project right now is making sodium by the alcohol catalyzed magnesium reduction approach.

So far i've been very successful and can produce sodium on a reliable basis.

Basically mix sodium hydroxide, magnesium metal, some tertiary alcohol, mineral oil as the solvent

and heat the mixture to 340 celsius on a hotplate and after three days we get sodium.

The current big problem with the process is that the reaction mixture is highly damaging to the glassware.

This makes sense since sodium hydroxide is well-known for dissolving glass, especially at higher temperatures.

In previous lab notes videos i've been trying to coat the glassware or find better solvents.

So far the results haven't been very good.

Sodium silicate coatings are promising but my first attempts were too porous.

I then tried different solvents like dioxane and dimethyl dioxane but their boiling points were far too low.

Interestingly, I had a lot of suggestions in the comments of those videos so i'll try to address some of them here.

Some people have suggested teflon or PTFE coatings, or even using whole teflon or PTFE apparatus which can easily be bought online.

Unfortunately, Teflon is actually reactive toward liquid sodium.

It cannot be used as a container material.

In fact, i already proved this with the PTFE coated stir bar and showed that it was degrading as i used it for these experiments.

It's slow but it's happening.

PTFE labware is even more expensive than borosilicate labware so we would have made our degradation problem even more costly if we went with PTFE labware.

But don't feel bad my fellow nerds.

PTFE labware wasn't a bad idea and understandably the knowledge of PTFE being vulnerable to molten sodium not that well known outside of chemistry circles.

And now you know.

Others have suggested, resin, plastic, polyethylene, acrylic, varnish, basically all kinds of hydrocarbon based coatings.

None of those are viable because they'll all melt and dissolve in mineral oil at high temperature.

Another suggestion was an internal coating of metal.

The thing is strong metal coatings on glass aren't that easy for the amateur.

The easy ones like silver are too weak and would be ripped off by the constant stirring.

And in the end, if we were going to go with metal, we might as well just use cans or plumbing pipes.

Another problem is that metal is opaque and we can't see what's going on if we use it.

Some people had suggestions for attacking the boiling point problem.

The most common one was to use higher pressure to raise the boiling point of the dioxane and possibly access higher temperatures that way.

I'm staying very far away from high pressure reactions, especially high temperature ones, due to the safety concerns.

What makes this reaction even harder is that it's a gas generating reaction since it produces hydrogen.

So the pressure will actually increase as it runs if kept in a closed system.

This is incredibly dangerous and even professional chemists have been killed from exploding pressure vessels.

We'd need to build a vessel that also has a pressure relief mechanism to release the excess hydrogen gas.

Unfortunately this goes well beyond the reach of the amateur.

The point of the research was to make sodium accessible to the amateur, not push it even further away with the requirement of specialized equipment.

If we were going the specialized equipment route, I'd say let's just make a Downs cell or a Castner cell and be done with it.

I'll probably do that in the future, but for now i just want to stick to normal glassware.

So anyway, these past few weeks i've been exploring another other aspects of the sodium production process.

Mostly i've been examining under what conditions it works and how to optimize it.

I'll get back to finding solutions to the glassware destruction problem

but sometimes it's helpful to first do as much optimization as possible with existing methods.

And in the process learn more about what's going on.

Now judging from the dioxane and dimethyl dioxane experiments,

it seems that trying to run the sodium production reaction at low temperatures isn't going to work.

So i ran a series of experiments to try and find the minimum necessary temperature for the reaction to start.

Unfortunately, every time i got hydrogen formation, indicating that the reaction had started, i also had damage to my glassware.

I wasted many days and destroyed several flasks running these tests.

Oh well, it wasn't a total waste.

After running those experiments i developed a few techniques to better the process and recover the sodium.

In my original experiments i poured off the magnesium oxide and mineral oil slurry and pulled out the sodium with pliers.

This was frustrating work and ran the risk of breaking the glassware.

The better approach I found was to gently slow down the stirring over the course of an hour to let the sodium coalesce.

Then the stirring was stopped before turning off the heat to just let the sodium solidify into globules.

Once it was completely cooled, I simply used a kitchen sieve and strained out the sodium.

The magnesium oxide and mineral oil remains as a slurry while the larger sodium globules are retained.

Very large sodium globules will remain stuck in the flask but these were much easier to pull out with pliers.

Nonetheless i figured out later i didn't even need to do that much, but i'll get to that in a bit.

The strained sodium is still covered with magnesium oxide and mineral oil so it was washed with dioxane.

And there is our sodium metal mixed with magnesium metal.

To accurately measure yield we needed to remove most of the excess magnesium so the sodium was dumped back into a flask and boiled with dioxane.

We know from previous work in the thermochemical dioxane process that dioxane has special properties for separating sodium.

The solution was vigorously stirred to breakup the sodium into smaller spheres.

I realized that if I did this earlier, i wouldn't need to use pliers.

So from now on i'll be using dioxane boiling and stirring to breakup larger sodium spheres into smaller ones.

Anyway, stirring was stopped and the mixture allowed to cool.

Straining out the sodium and leaving the magnesium behind we now have cleaned sodium metal.

There is still a minor amount of magnesium on the sodium but this is just a surface coating.

I confirmed this by cutting one open.

On average my yield was in the range of 60% to 70%.

This is a considerable improvement over the thermochemical dioxane process that gives a yield of around 40%.

And much better than our first breakthrough at 33%.

Most of the improvement was just better reaction time and more careful technique.

Although having full sodium recovery by using a kitchen strainer helped as well.

Overall i like this improved technique better since it's cleaner, much less labor intensive and involves breaking far less glassware.

Unfortunately all of these experiments still involved damaging glassware due to reaction with sodium hydroxide.

So i'm still working on that problem.

Now I've been doing other routine labwork while i waited for the reactions to happen.

One of them was restocking my supply of hydrobromic acid.

I used it all up when i was making alkyl bromides to in turn make the tertiary alcohols for our sodium experiments.

Now i already made a video on this some years ago so hydrobromic acid is nothing new for us.

Basically react an acid with sodium bromide, make hydrobromic acid and distill off the hydrobromic acid from the salts.

This time i used sulfuric acid to make it rather than sodium bisulfate and got fairly good yield.

A big improvement over my old method was in the bromine removal step.

Small amounts of bromine would often contaminant the hydrobromic acid because small quantities are made from the reduction of sulfuric acid.

In my old video i used copper metal to react with the bromine and consume it as copper bromide.

This worked to some extent but didn't remove all the bromine.

There was lingering contamination.

While inconsequential for chemistry it was unsightly and gave the impression the acid was crap.

I've since come up with some much better approaches.

The first is to clear the bromine using elemental sulfur.

Sulfur is very cheap and easy to obtain and reacts with the bromine to make more hydrobromic acid.

So it's more effective and more efficient than copper, a double win.

Unfortunately it also clouds the resulting hydrobromic acid so you have to reflux it to get it out.

An even better method was to use a small amount of sodium metabisulfite.

It's a reducing agent and rapidly reduces the bromine into bromide ions.

After distillation you get clear and pure hydrobromic acid.

A quick question for you guys though.

Would you like to me make a separate video on the new and improved method for making hydrobromic acid?

I'm actually making more right now and it wouldn't be too hard for me to film it while doing so and making a full video on it.

I want to ask because i already have an old video which admittedly is not very good but maybe you'd rather i only stick with new chemistry,

the update in this lab notes video being adequate for updating the old procedure.

Let me know in the comments.

Another actual video i've been working is this Clevenger apparatus.

The Clevenger is not some superhero pornstar,

it's actually a type of Dean stark apparatus but can be used in both light return and heavy return modes.

It's not as good as a specialized apparatus but it's less expensive

and thus it's a great addition to any amateur's labware collection when you don't need professional level performance.

I'll be releasing that video soon.

So that's what i've been working on these past few weeks.

At this point i want to ask the question if you like this current format where i detail everything i'm doing in the lab notes videos

or if you think it's better i make separate contained lab notes for each topic.

A combined format guarantees i cover everything and even mentions topics that would be far too short for a self-contained video.

But separate self-contained videos would be focused and not jump around topics like this one does.

I can do either one, let me know how you want it done.

Anyway, thanks for watching.

Things are progressing.

Tree Dollhouse Update Part 34 Bees Fungus And A Mole's Doorway - Duration: 4:48.

today is July the 24th 2018 and then just popping in with a quick update to

show you that I am making some progress over here where the gnomes live getting

some more magical places made I'll bring you in closer so you can see what I've

been doing so I'm finally getting some fungus on the tree and I decided to go

with crochet fungus because I love crochet and it also brings my two loves

together so I can kind of promote one channel with the other when I get the

patterns up so my other channel is my name Sharon Ojala and probably the

crocheted pattern will be on that channel I haven't decided yet

as soon as I write it up and do a video then then I will let you know when it's

available so these are actually just one colored yarn in one piece there's no

sewing with these guys here and I did put a wire in the stem I colored the

tops with wet chalk I've never done that before with yarn I've never

colored yarn with wet chalk before but turned out pretty cool I like that the

color stays on there really nice and then up here is just one colored yarn I

didn't color these and they're all one piece as well

I love the grouping I love how they look all together and I'm hot gluing them in

place and over here is my beautiful little Beehive I just made this last

week I made a foil form and then over that form I did individual foil strips

and hot glued them on top of the foil form so it becomes one piece and then

masking tape over that and then paper towel over that and I have a little

cutout here because I'm gonna be putting a be seen in here and this is hollow as

well and this little guy here I just threw that together so there'd be a

bee sitting out here but I might be making a whole bunch of them with clay

or something I haven't decided yet but that's just there for looks right

now and this is attached with a wire that goes to the top of the branch I

bent the top of the wire over so it hangs onto the top it goes through the

branch and then through the stem of the hive so let's talk about the next update

and that's a tree here this is new

love that tree there'll be lots more done to that guy as well but I decided

that that tree was going to be the entrance the root system will be the

entrance to the mole's area so if you've seen the other updates and you'll know

underneath here is gonna be at the mole's home probably a little mole's highway

going on down here so this is going to be the entrance to that so adding onto

paper clay is really easy all I did was this was already done and painted and

dried of course and all I did was just cut a little hole at the bottom and I

already had a hole in the piece of wood I had here because I knew I was gonna do

something here but I wasn't sure what it's already had a hole in the wood but

I cut a hole in the bottom of the tree and then I hot-glued tin foil and then

masking tape over that and then paper clay over that and now it's drying and

there'll be lots of things added here like fungus and moss and all that great

stuff but that's gonna really cool I'm loving how that looks already so I think

that's it for the new update guys oh right I was gonna tell you about the

leaves because the last video I did I was showing you these leaves here and I

added a lot since that video and I had a dilemma because I had ordered some

leaves on Amazon and they came with no stems which made it kind of hard for

attaching so what I ended up doing was gluing two leaves together but gluing a

wire in between them so that's a very thin gauge wire and I glued two leaves

together with the wire in between and I used hot glue and that was really easy

so I put these fans back to work and that's my cue to get back to work as

well so I'll turn the camera off I hope you enjoyed these updates I think it's

looking pretty magical over here when I walk through my craft room door this is

the first thing I see is this big tree lots of inspiration there keeps me

motivated to keep working I love it I hope you enjoyed that guys and we'll see

you super soon!

Health Benefits of Sweet Potatoes in english - Duration: 4:00.

Sweet Potatoes The health benefits of sweet potatoes include

their ability to help in healthy weight gain, boost immunity, regulate digestion, and

control diabetes. Sweet potatoes also help in treating arthritis and stomach ulcers.

Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin A (in the form of beta-carotene).

They are also a very good source of vitamin C, manganese, copper, pantothenic acid and

vitamin B6. Additionally, they are a good source of potassium, dietary fiber, niacin,

vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and phosphorus.Sweet potatoes have many health

benefits. Let's explore them in video .

Reduce Arthritis Pain Beta-carotene, magnesium, zinc, and vitamin

B complex make sweet potatoes a highly important food source for managing

arthritis. The water in which sweet potatoes are boiled can also be applied externally on

joints to ease the associated pain of arthritis.

Boost Immune System Sweet potatoes are excellent immune system

boosters that defend your body from a wide variety of conditions. They are very rich in

beta-carotene, which is a major antioxidant, along with vitamin C and B complex

vitamins, iron, and phosphorus. All these nutrients help in strengthening the immunity

and keeping you healthy.

Improve Digestion The fiber content in sweet potatoes is higher

than that of common potatoes and they taste good too! When these two factors are

combined with other minerals like magnesium, which is present in sweet

potatoes, it makes an excellent facilitator for digestion. Sweet potatoes are easy to digest

as well since they mainly contain starch. They are soothing to the stomach and

intestines, so you can avoid any difficulties of digesting them.

protect us from Cancer Beta-carotene, a champion antioxidant and

an anticarcinogenic substance, is the pigment responsible for the color of the peel of sweet

potatoes. The beta-carotene and vitamin C contained in sweet potatoes are very

beneficial for curing various types of cancer, mainly those of colon, intestines, prostate,

kidneys, and other internal organs.

Control Diabetes Sweet potatoes are a good food choice for

diabetics as they are high in fiber and have a low glycemic index. Foods with a low

glycemic index have less of an immediate impact on blood glucose levels, and therefore

can help diabetics control their blood sugar .Sweet potatoes are beneficial for

diabetics. Amazingly, they are very effective in regulating blood sugar levels by helping

the proper secretion and function of insulin. .

Promote Weight Gain Sweet potatoes contain good amounts of

complex starch, along with healthy vitamins, minerals, and proteins. Moreover, they are

very easy to digest. Thus, they provide a lot of energy and are excellent bulk builders for

people looking to gain weight.People who have recently suffered from illnesses, or are

self-conscious about being frail or abnormally thin should welcome this news

about sweet potatoes since there are no associated side effects, which most of the

synthetic bulk building dietary supplements have.

Delano Covarrubias Shark Tank Pitch- San Antonio, Texas - Duration: 6:11.

My name is Delano Covarrubias and I am the CEO and co-founder of VertiPro an

Augmented reality mobile application for vestibular disorders which are dizziness or balance dysfunctions

We're seeking

$100,000 as a seed round in exchange for 10% equity within the company

Our business is a mobile application

That saves time and money for patients and therapists by streamlining vestibular rehabilitation exercises

over

69 million Americans who suffer from vestibular disorders

These people are 12 times more likely to suffer from an accidental fall and Falls are the leading cause of death among the elderly

My mom had serious vertigo growing up. She couldn't go to the mall. She couldn't go grocery shopping. She couldn't take me to basketball practice

Let alone get up get in her car and drive to a therapists office and back all while feeling dizzy

Traditional therapy is highly highly efficient

It's the people that studies have shown that there's about an 80% increase in stability were performed correctly

The problem is there's about a 70%

Non-compliance rate when prescribed to do them at home

It's costly at about a hundred dollars a visit without insurance and it's inconvenient for reasons that I said

These people are dizzy and they're trying to commute to a hospital or they have to rely on somebody else

Our solution streamlines this therapy using similar technology as snapchat

Which is facial and eye tracking recognition

to increase engagement

Save time and money and limit readmissions for therapists so they could save money as well

We're currently patent-pending. We do have a high fidelity prototype that I want to show you guys here

we're not in revenue and

We're beating all of our competitors our indirect competitors

consist of bulky vestibular diagnostic systems such as neuro comm and other applications for

Concussion management, which is in or isn't in our sector

Our direct competitors are all outdated daily log mobile applications

And I'm going to take a minute to show you these exercise and show you how our mobile application works

But first I kind of just want to explain what is a vestibular ocular reflex exercise. What are we gay? M'f Iying?

So these exercises regard head neck and eye movements so you can use the X on the wall

You can use your finger you can use a pencil but the idea is you stay focused on one target

And move your head left and right up and down for example this or this or this

To make yourself more dizzy to ultimately become immune to that dizziness and become more tolerant over time

So this is our mobile app

This is my mom performing the actual exercise and as you can see before the exercise we asked her

How did how did he is she feeling? What's the speed? What kind of head movement?

What exercise mode?

Being how long are we gonna do this for and we let her perform it

the accountability comes in being that there's notifications we track your progress over time and

These metrics are sent to your therapist

So say you're not doing these exercises your therapist can give you a call today blue-blue, please do your exercises

I see from my end. You're not doing anything you're you know wasting me money. Let's get going

Okay. So this idea started at the European innovation Academy last summer in Turin, Italy

Five international students including myself joined together

I met two mentors one of them being a vestibular specialist who has over 20 years of experience in the world of neurology

neurology and vestibular practice

We've invested about four thousand dollars into this business and

This our potential cells are outstanding

We capture one percent of our market. We can be at one point five million dollars in revenue which we project for next year

If we capture two percent, we can be at three million

twenty percent thirty million and if we capture our full market

We can be at one hundred and fifty million dollars in revenue plus considering we have a CIO in Nigeria

We have a product advisor in Italy and our vestibular specialist is based out of Phillip, Philadelphia

Where we believe we can expand with the support of shark tank and other associations

What this product means to me is?

Developing a solution that can benefit my mother which I've seen her go through her social isolation

her stress of not being able to get up and do her everyday life activities and

Not only her but millions of people around the world

It doesn't get more fulfilling than this. Right and this is what drives me on a day to day

Along with the opportunity to commercialize the technology that can be potentially disruptive the nation

Something interesting about myself is that I used to be in a band and I find it highly interesting

How similar being in a band is to being an entrepreneur?

You work with different skill sets your bass player your CTO your drummer your CRO the lead singer your CEO

Right, you work long hard nights every single day because you're pursuing something greater than yourself

It's amazing to me to have the opportunity to pitch to you guys and to have the opportunity to

help millions of people around the world live a life more balanced and I encourage you to join our movement and

help millions of people around the world

Become a pro at making their vertigo go with Verta Pro

The pocket-friendly therapist. Thank you
