Meet the Greek Girl Who Blew Out the Olympic Flame 12 Years After | Flame Catchers - Duration: 2:24.

I'm Fotini Papaleonidopoulou. I'm 22 years old.

In 2004, I was the girl

who blew out the flame

in the Olympic Games at the Closing Ceremony.

At the age of seven,

I was part of the SOS Villages and that gave me the chance

to be part of the Olympic Games.

The SOS Children's Villages

operate in 125 countries around the world,

making them one of the largest orphan charities.

Mr Papaioannou, the director of the Closing Ceremony,

wanted especially to choose a child from the SOS Villages.

And I was informed by the people of the SOS Villages

that I would take part,

because Mr Papaioannou learned about me.

He saw a picture.

He selected me, especially for my green eyes

and my name, which means the light.

When I went out into the stadium,

I was frozen.

It was the most scary moment of my life, until now.

And I remember that I talked to the athletes

that were next to me

that I don't want to go, I don't want to do it, go alone!

And they urged me to do it and they said,

"Fotini, you will make it! It's a great moment.

"You will remember this for the rest of your life."

Fotini is now studying at the University of Patras,

where she is preparing for a career in medicine.

As for my goals, I think that my participation

in the Olympic Games passed me great spirit

that I want to hold on and carry in my life.

In whatever I do, I want to be the best I can.

And if it's studying science, I want to be a great scientist

and offer to the community and do a lot of great things,

that, one day, I'll be remembered,

not only for participating in the Olympic Games,

but also for my offer to the whole world.

CARL AZUZ: Hey, I'm Carl Azuz for "CNN 10,"

and Fridays are awesome, unless you're in the US Northeast

and you hate snow.

The region's dealing with the effects

of what could be the most significant

storm of this winter.

When a snow emergency is declared

in places like Boston, Massachusetts,

you know the weather's bad.

Blizzard conditions, white-outs, more than 1,600

flight cancellations, the closure of the largest school

district in the United States, and warnings to people

not to leave their homes except in an emergency.

This is all because of a storm system

that's affected more than 60 million people in some way.

That's roughly one-fifth of America's population.

It came on suddenly.

Wednesday's temperature at New York's

John F. Kennedy International Airport

was 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

Yesterday it was 25, sinking to a low of 18 overnight.

And it came with snow.

Forecasters predicted eight to 12 inches in New York

with wind gusts of 50 miles per hour.

Boston was expected to get 12 to 15 inches of snow.

And yesterday in Massachusetts and Connecticut,

[thunder sounds] thundersnow.

Pretty unusual event when a winter snow fall

brings the thunder.

The system was moving out of New York by last night,

but it was expected to impact Boston through the weekend.

The National Weather Service doesn't

expect the temperature there to get

above freezing until Sunday.

Despite the storm's location, though,

and despite its effects, it moved from west

to east, from land to sea.

It's not technically a nor'easter,

though some folks were calling it that.

What exactly is the difference?

JENNIFER GRAY: A nor'easter occurs

within the most crowded coastline of the United

States, the Northeast.

And they can occur any time of year,

but are most common between the months of September and April.

That's when weather conditions are prime for a nor'easter.

You start with a low.

It's going to travel from the southeast to the northeast

and intensify.

Nor'easters are strongest around New England,

as well as the Canadian maritime provinces.

Now, we have very warm water in the Gulf of Mexico

and all around the coast of Florida.

It's going to warm the air above it,

and that warm air is going to clash with very cold air

coming in from the north.

Now nor'easters carry winds out of the Northeast at about

58 miles per hour or more.

And keep in mind, the wind direction out of the Northeast

is what defines a nor'easter.

It's also going to cause beach erosion, as

well as coastal flooding, and very,

very rough ocean conditions.

Now, not all nor'easters have snow,

but some of the most memorable ones have dumped lots of it.

CARL AZUZ: Feeding a growing population.

The price and availability of land,

government rules and regulations,

international trade laws.

These are a few of the challenges

faced by farmers worldwide.

And they're on top of the everyday demands

of producing a successful crop and making a living from it.

They have a new tool that can help, though.

Crowdsourcing.

Getting information, usually through the internet,

from other farmers who've faced and overcome specific problems.

What about those farmers who don't have internet access?

- What if you could stop global food shortages with this?

70% of the world's food comes from small, isolated farms

that are on average, only two acres--

about 0.8 hectares, like Darrell's farm in Kenya.

If farmers like Darrell didn't produce food,

the world wouldn't eat.

So what happens when Darrell, who's only

been farming for a few years, finds out

his crop is mysteriously dying?

DARRELL KITHEKA: There came a disease.

It came from nowhere, and nobody knew about it.

- That's where an emerging social network

that connects rural farmers with no internet access comes in.

Wee Farm, a London-based start-up

that's recently raised $1.6 million in seed funding works

on a simple premise.

Have a problem?

Send a text that goes out to 120,000 other farmers

and crowdsource the answer.

That's exactly what Darrell did when

worms got into his tomato crop.

DARRELL KITHEKA: Luckily, whoever got that question, it

is like god who worked there.

He gave an answer as if he was in my mind.

- The solution?

A pesticide that killed the worms and saved his tomatoes.

At its roots, farming is about generational knowledge.

Your mom was a farmer, and her dad was a farmer, and so on.

But in millions of small, isolated farms,

that knowledge only goes as far as you can walk.

Now these farmers have a global community to lean on.

MWINYI BWIKA: Our first function is to connect all the farmers

and ensure that they will tap into

this generational knowledge.

- The network has already answered over 280,000 questions

and shared 18 million pieces of information.

MWINYI BWIKA: But it's not just sharing the challenges

that they have, they're also sharing the wins that they

get on a day-to-day basis.

- Basically, the more successful the farmer, the more land

he can buy, and the more crops he can grow for the world.

DARRELL KITHEKA: The farming, it's in my blood.

Hopefully, I think it's going to take me somewhere.

In 1953 it was Watson and Crick who described the structure

of DNA as a double helix.

CARL AZUZ: You hear a lot about DNA evidence used in crime

investigations, and when people are accused of crimes in the US

they have rights under criminal due process.

That's not the case with dogs.

A legal expert says they're considered property.

So DNA testing when an animal is accused of killing another one

isn't part of their legal process.

Still, the owners of Jeb, a service dog

that helps care for an elderly man in Michigan,

spent $416 to obtain DNA evidence

and prove Jeb's innocence when he was found standing over

the body of a neighbor's dog.

The rest is now canine courtroom history.

- Jeb you were accused of a very serious crime.

Did you do it?

ELIZABETH COHEN: When you heard Jeb killed another dog,

what went through your head?

PEGGY JOB: No, Jeb didn't do it.

ELIZABETH COHEN: At the end of the trial,

what was the judge's order?

PEGGY JOB: That Jeb needs to be put down

because he's a dangerous dog.

He had his mind made up that that dog needs to die.

ELIZABETH COHEN: When it came back what did it say?

PEGGY JOB: It said that Jeb did not kill the dog.

His DNA was nowhere on any of the samples.

ELIZABETH COHEN: If you had not gotten that DNA,

would have been killed?

PEGGY JOB: Yes, certainly he would.

There was no question about it.

ELIZABETH COHEN: How did your husband

respond when Jeb came home?

PEGGY JOB: He was in shock.

He cried.

ELIZABETH COHEN: So happy.

PEGGY JOB: He was so happy.

- You're a good doggy.

CARL AZUZ: Well, they say that no two of these things

are exactly alike.

And these pictures prove it, at least

in the close-up snowflakes captured

by this CNN I-reporter.

He says the pictures were taken by a smartphone

with a lens attachment.

They are particles that fell out of the Ohio winter sky

and stuck to the windshield of a parked car.

The photographer says he's been taking pictures like this

for three years, and though some people might ask

why, to us it's crystal clear.

Seeing snow chillin' on his car precipitated the idea,

and he probably thought to himself,

latus take a closer look.

As a matter of fractal, who'd want to flake out

on the chance to branch out and capture

some frozen flake-tography?

Like these puns themselves, the pictures just kind of snowball.

Today, I want to make a video slime

To do this, prepare:

Gel or shaving foam,

PVA glue,

Boric acid, it can be bought at any pharmacy,

Any dye, we chose green

And mixing container

To start adding glue to the vessel

Next, add the gel or shaving foam

Now add the dye and mix

Color was not very bright, so let's add gouache

Now add quite a bit of boric acid

It should be added gradually and stirring. The main thing is not to overdo

Set number 10254.

Contains 734 pieces

Recommended building ages are 12 and up.

This looks like one awesome train.

Tracks are also included.

Nice colorful box art.

Let's open this box up

and see the content.

I'm dying to see what's inside.

So it looks like we have several sets of tracks,

some numbered bags,

and instruction manuals.

Get that boring bag out of the way.

So there are indeed two instruction manuals,

16 round tracks,

and several numbered bags.

This one even has a Brick Separator.

That will help with the build.

Too many bags to count.

This looks like one awesome assortment of parts.

What are we waiting for?

Let's take a look at the Winter Holiday Train!

The Winter Holiday Train.

It is a fun set to assemble.

The set does come with five minifigures,

accessories,

a park bench with lamp,

and the Holiday Train.

In addition, the train is wired up with Power Functions.

Let's take a closer look.

First is the train conductor.

He is holding a flat-head shovel

and a bag on the side.

His torso is printed.

The back of his torso is printed as well.

Here we have a lady on the right

and a gentleman on the left.

Both their torsos are printed.

The gentleman is wearing a scarf

and a baseball hat.

The back of the lady's torso is printed.

Finally we have this young lady on the left

and this gentleman on the right.

Both their torsos are printed.

The young gentleman is holding a radio.

Possibly a remote control.

The back of their torsos are printed.

Next, let's take a closer look at the accessories.

Here we have a nice well-built robot.

The control panel is printed.

There are several presents that can be built.

There are three in total.

A small micro-build of a fire engine,

a spaceship,

some weird thing with a windup attachment on the top,

and a sailboat.

Here we have a closeup of the park bench.

On the right, we have a lamp

with a wreath attached.

We have some snow on the ground.

It is simple construction.

It also works with minifigures.

Let's set this gentleman on the seat.

It is studded in the rear

to attach the minifgures.

It can seat up to two figures side-by-side.

Here we have the engine

and fuel cart.

I'm not sure what the official names are.

I'm not really into trains.

The three pieces of track at the bottom

are not included with the set.

I do like the color scheme of red,

green,

white,

and black.

White leaf pieces with lights.

The engine and the cart can be separated.

However since I have it wired up with Power Functions,

it's nearly impossible.

Also the top of the cab does remove.

If I end up removing that,

the wires will come spilling out.

I don't want to take that risk.

Here we have a connector on the back

that is magnetic to connect other cars.

Here's the front

with the smokestack.

Too bad this wasn't wired up with a light.

That would have been awesome.

I like the use of the gold.

It is a nice locomotive.

Here we have a flatbed car with a tree.

On the bottom of the tree,

we have a small train.

We have a set of ladders

that take you up into the flatbed car.

I like the use of the gold railing.

Really nice.

Let's set some items inside the area.

Put some presents in there.

Let's see how much this thing can hold.

Whoops!

The spaceship doesn't want to go in.

I guess that's about it.

We'll shove the weird thing in there.

Well the fire engine doesn't fit.

Now as this car moves,

the tree will rotate.

It doesn't rotate the well

unless the train is in motion.

It is a nice flatbed car.

I like it.

Finally the small caboose.

It is a nice build despite of it's size.

We have a set of ladders

on both sides to get up into the caboose.

Nice white leaf elements with lights.

It has a nice color scheme of black,

red,

green,

and dark blue.

Nice set of lanterns

and green shutters.

The top of the caboose does remove.

Inside, we do have a lamp,

and a table with two chairs.

There's even a mug inside.

It does seat two figures.

It is a bit of a tight squeeze

to get them to sit inside.

So I'm sure that they will fit inside the chairs.

My hands are a bit too big to get them inside.

The top does go on fairly easily.

Nice looking caboose.

Now let's see this train in action.

Putting the cars together are very simple

seeing that the connectors are magnetic.

They do lock together easily.

Just push the green button to turn on the power.

We will grab the Power Functions controller.

Let's put this train into motion.

It sounds like it's got that

chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga

authentic sound to it.

It does go pretty fast.

Now I don't recommend going too fast with this.

It will fly off the track.

I've had it happen a couple of times.

Let's slow it down.

I don't want to have to deal with the derailment of the train.

Push the red button to stop it.

Really a nice train.

Now the track is only measured about 28 inches in diameter.

Not a whole lot of room to put around a large Christmas tree.

I'm sure with extra tracks,

it could be expanded.

It is a nice trains setup.

Here is a closer look at the Power Functions.

On the top-left, we have the infrared receiver.

Part number 8884.

This retailed for $14.99.

This is a bit pricey.

On the bottom-left, we have the train motor.

Part number 88002.

This retailed for $13.99.

This took 60 days to receive.

That was a bit of a wait.

On the top-right, we have the infrared controller.

Part number 8879.

This retailed for $12.99.

Not a bad price.

On the bottom-right, we have the battery box.

Part number 88000.

This retailed for $12.99.

A bit pricey.

This does hold six AAA cells.

I believer the controller holds three AAA cells.

I don't remember.

The total for the parts is $54.96

just to power up the Winter Holiday Train.

Honestly that's a bit pricey.

You have to buy all these parts separate

hoping they are not on back order.

This should have been a packaged deal

or included with the set.

I am clueless as to why Lego did not include these parts

in the Winter Holiday Train.

It wold have been convenient

instead of waiting for certain parts

and to look up piece by hand.

Here are the remaining spare pieces.

Off tot he left, we have a nifty Brick Separator.

This does help with the build.

On the top-left, we have a portion of the coal area.

This is used over the power box

when it's not installed.

On the top-right,

we have a portion that sits underneath the engine.

This got replaced with the Power Functions motor.

On the bottom-left,

we have a section that goes in front of the train.

This was replaced with the infrared sensor.

On the bottom-right, we have various plates,

studs,

Technic pins,

and other various bricks which may come in handy

for other Lego creations.

This concludes the review for

Winter Holiday Train by Lego Creator.

Set number 10254.

It is a nice easy fun build.

This will be great for any Lego holiday theme

or for a Lego city.

Now let's talk about the cons of this set.

It only comes with 16 pieces of curved track.

No straight tracks

or any other kind of train track.

The Power Functions are separate

which is a bummer.

It took 60 days to get the engine motor just to power up the train.

Now the cost of the train itself is 100 dollars.

Tack on an extra 55 dollars for the Power Functions,

this is a 155 dollar setup.

Honestly in my opinion, it is not worth it.

I could have thought of a few other sets to buy other than this.

It's a bit steep.

Lego should have packaged the Power Functions with this train.

Finding all the pieces separate

was a pain.

It wasn't fun at all.

Other than that, it is a nice train.

I just would not recommend it for this price.

The IOP is rolling out a series of

roadmapping exercises.

I've been involved in advising them about

how the roadmapping process can be applied to

photonics in particular. We've got 25 or so

experts from around the country together, and we've

brainstormed to come up with ideas about

what technology we can conceive to

address the challenges of society and the

economy. The objective behind this roadmapping

workshop is to kind of

galvanise a voice of the community,

hearing what industry thinks are the

drivers, the market drivers, the

challenges, working with academia to identify

where the new disciplines are coming through

that potentially could address

these challenges. The output from the

workshop will be a health of physics report

in the sector, which will feed in to the Institute's

policymaking, but more importantly it'll

be working with the community to

identify actions which will actually

accelerate the opportunities for taking

research, innovating and turning them into

new products and processes. This work fits

nicely into two of the Institute's thematic

strategies. Discovery – how you actually go

about ensuring the health of the

discipline. And Economy – how you

can take and translate the emergence of

results coming out of research, into

new products and processes.

In a world where there are many, many

challenges, many changes, it's always

important to try and see where you want

to get to with your technology, your

skills and your capability. Roadmapping

process is perfect for that.

I am Sander Petit, 49 years...

...still a young boy...

...with this one big passion for cars

And a special place for this one...

My Datsun.

Already as a young boy I lliked this one

My older brother already drove one

So I got the virus

There was only one car. The Datsun 240

The 260 or 280 did not differ much

It is almost the same car and a very nice one

And on top of that, it is a fantastic ride, great handling.

My first job was in Amstelveen (NL) and I had to start on a saturday at 9 AM

When I arrived at 8:45, you never guess, I came in late...

...on the parkinglot 2 of these Datsuns were for sale, a blue ona and the other was red

As fascinated I was, I kept circling around the cars

I didn't have the money. I still drove a moped.

My first day on my first job started some later then.

Wow.... teriffic...

I like to drive this car very much...

Ever, since I was a small boy, this was my dreamcar

I did not start with it the first moment

I first owned some other cars but...

about 21-22 years ago it finally happened...

...finally I was able to drive this car

That was so great. It was a dream come thruth

When I bought this car...

...the initial plan was to drive it on a daily basis

I had a car from my job I used every day

But I used this car for short drives, shopping and such

And then you start improving the car.. making it nicer...

Until the engine needed a revision

I did handle it myself together with my brother

This car was ment to stay with me for a long time...

...so, about 10 years ago, I did work on the outer finish of the car

It was completely stripped. Only the engine and such remained in the car

It was still functional but the doors were removed as the windows and the complete interior

So it had a perfect paintjob and some welding that was needed I did myself

During the restoration of my car, that took a few years, I did infect some other people with the Classic-virus...

My own brother could not resist...

...and bought a Datsun 280z about 2 years later

In the meanwhile, the car was not that common anymore...

You could still find it in some catalogs and oldtimershows but it disappeared from the streets

Luckily the number of cars is increasing. A lot of them are imported from the US

It turned into a car for real adepts

Th car is well known because of the safari-rally, the Monte Carlo...

...The car performed very well in endurance rally's

In the East Africa Safari Rally it reached the first place

In 1970, 71 and 73 the third

So the Datsun became a well known rally car and sales increased in the US

The car was also available in Europe but was not sold in great volumes...

...because it was a bit more expensive here

As the Datsun entered the market back in 1969, it competed with German, Italian and English sportscars...

...because it was better affordable, faster and reliable and thereby unavoidable

The design for this car was made by Albrecht Goertz who also designed cars like ...

... the BMW 502 and 507 and lucky for us, this one

Remarkable for his designs are the long nose and short back

Recognisable for Albrecht Goertz

Nissan's technology proved reliable over the years...

...and I am very fond of the construction of Japanese cars because...

...they are very decent build.

After all these years it is a very reliable classic car that still fits for daily use without problems

Here I can show you what it it all about. The powersource

For Nissan this was always a 6 cylinder in line...

...available in 2.4, 2.6 and this is the 2.8 liter engine

Specific for this engine is the power is available for the full range

It has tremendous torque

From stand still it comes up to speed very fluently...

...and also increases speed easily while driving

A nice hidden feature in this car...

I never need it, it probably is hardly used...

...this lightbulb that can reach for every corner in the enginecompartment for service purposes

But we don't need it so we close it again

Very funny it is in there anyway

Every year I go to Italy with some guys with Porshes 911 and 912

Recently we made this Lego Police Station,

and today we are going to unbox and build Lego City Mobile Police Unit

This set consists of Lego Police Truck

and a trailer with Mobile Police Unit with control room

and 3 surveillance screens

used to monitor the city

there is also small mobile jail

they already caught one crook

I've got one tip for you - to build Lego faster,

you first need to line up all the parts in same order as they appear in the manual

Lego Police Truck is ready

let's build the trailer with mobile Police Unit

there you go, LEGO Mobile Police Unit is ready

it's so cool looking

you can detach the trailer from the truck

you can open the roof of the truck to put driver inside

let's get the truck refueled

while we have a closer look at the trailer

inside the trailer is Mobile Police Unit with control room

lego computers and 3 surveillance screens

let's get this Lego Policeman to work

over here is district map and a Lego walkie talkie

there are 2 sliding compartments here? one with city map

and another one with coffee machine

over here is mobile jail

it's still empty since we have not caught any crooks yet

So, Today! tadaa I've bought 10 of Mcd's brand new Chicken tatta and 10 Chicken taruta's

and a box of 15 nuggets

these chicken tattas are products that have appeared before I recall they tasted delish

and these tarutas are brand new items I feel the tar tar sauce in them are going to taste legit

oh yes... you can't see them but I have 2 lg cokes over here

itadakimasu I just can't decide on which one to try first...

guys I found this on Mcd's website but there's a roulette wheel and I'll use that to pick which to start with

K, it landed on taruta... alrighty lets go with taruta first

ahh they look like this .... the bun is so puffy and it looks delish the bun looks so nicely baked

and inside its got tartar sauce (thus the goofball name of taruta)

without a doubt this is gonna taste delish when you put chicken and tartar together it makes it like a chicken nanban

K looks so delish it looks so nice

the bun is so fluffy and chewy the chicken has a slight ginger flavor that permeates through

and then its slathered in a delish tartar sauce for veggies you have shredded cabbage

????? the bun is so fluffy ?????

next up is chicken tatta

I think the sauce this chicken tatta uses is Mayo?

you can taste the fresh ginger in this chicken the bun is very fluffy

next is chicken nuggets this time around they have 2 different sauces which is matched

to the release of these new burgers, one is tartar sauce and the other is ginger and soy sauce

I love that aroma of ginger

ohhh this nugget sauce is a very Japanese'y flavor its so fresh tasting and delish

next up is tartar sauce

ohh this is gonna be good too

an oniony and creamy flavored sauce its even got diced pickles in it as well

the chicken is flavored nicely

the thing that really tasted awesome was the nuggets.... gr....ouuunndd...... gin.....gerrrrrr.....
