Is our food good or bad?

After the war, we managed to provide enough food for everyone, and that was good—it

was a tour de force of the industrial food revolution.

But we overdid it, because now we have more food available than we could ever eat.

As a result, prices have of course dropped, and competition is fierce.

We've forgotten that the most important job of food is to provide us with energy.

I have to take an interest in what it does and then I have to understand that each Body is different.

We're made up of different genes, we have different backgrounds, we do different things:

what's good for Dad is by no means good for Mom.

Improper nutrition is the primary cause of obesity and the diabetes associated with that.

We consume a lot of hidden sugar in foods like spreads and beverages—a hugely important factor.

Ice teas are very popular in a lot of countries, for example, and we can all

name other soft drinks that contain sugar.

Beverages like that can cause people to put on a tremendous amount of weight.

Globally, one in three adults today is already overweight.

Over 425 million people suffer from diabetes.

I believe these will increasingly be replaced by natural or nature-identical substances.

We don't necessarily see all non-natural substances being replaced, but substances

that we now know are harmful to human health are being targeted for replacement by things

that help keep our bodies healthy.

okay welcome to Westminster I'am on Westminster Bridge and this part of London is home

to some of London's most popular landmarks Big Ben is there believe the

scaffolding somewhere the Palace of Westminster and the London Eye

I'am going to share with you this afternoon one of my favourite markets here the in the centre of town

a street food market

okay this is actually in these tunnels here beneath the street great spot for a

selfie with big Ben when it's not clad in scaffolding it looks phenomenal from here

okay that section of river bank there beneath the London Eye is where we keep all of

the tourists at any given time in this section here the river front opens up a

bit more there's a lot of street entertainers some amazing Busker's to

watch and some street food carry on heading towards the South Bank Centre and the markets just behind

South Bank Centre

OK welcome to the South Bank centre I've actually come the scenic route here

from Westminster which is why there was so many tourists along the way but where we

are right now is actually a very short walk just across the river just across

these foot bridges is embankment tube station and Trafalgar Square and the South

Bank food market is just here behind the South bank centre

okay welcome to the South Bank food market the great thing about this market is

the choice all of the food is phenomenal there's just enough choice

to make it a tough decision what to eat but it's not so big its overwhelming

OK it all looks amazing and the smell is phenomenal now I need to decide

what to eat

okay first up I've got some bruschetta from the bruschetta stall here

okay I've got some paella I'll go find somewhere to sit and enjoy this

okay the steps over looking the market look perfect

what is the Stirling approximation?

I wanted to make a small video

to share it with you

Now, we use Stirling approximation

in statistical thermodynamics to

calculate the factorial of large numbers.

James Stirling is Scottish mathematician

He lived in 17th century

He developed a technique to calculate the factorial of large numbers

It is an approximation.

As number get bigger, the approximation gets close to its actual value.

And in Statistical Mechanics or in Statistical Mechanics we use this approximation

to derive

Boltzmann distribution

Now in this video I will explain to you

what the Stirling Approximation is.

Now let's calculate N factorial.

Here N is any number

As you know

N factorial is

one times, two times

times three dot dot dot...N

This is N factorial.

Now for small N you can easily calculate it by hand

or using a calculator.

However as N get bigger and bigger the calculation becomes much more difficult.

For example for N=100, 200, 1000, 10000 the results is enormously big

For large N, it is difficult to get the result. In statistical mechanics

for large degree of freedom, the physical system is highly chaotic

analytical solutions becomes impossible

then we use statistical approach

that is the statistical mechanics or statistical thermodynamics

we deal with large degree of freedom

now I would like to derive an approximated expression for N factorial

that is called Stirling Approximation

let's start with taking the natural logarithm of both of the sides

natural log of N factorial is

That is...

Now ln x is a very slowly changing function with x

You can see it yourself. For example

Make an excel sheet

let the first raw be x and the other lnx

Give x its values, for example

you can start with 1 or 10 and go on...20, 30, etc

up to 400 or 500

then calculate ln x for every value of x

then make a graph

you will see that

for small values of x

for 10, 20, etc

ln x increases with a certain rate

however as x gets bigger and bigger, ln x changes much more slowly

even, up to a certain value of x, ln x is almost constant.

typically it changes like this

for large values of x, the function ln x is changing very slowly as you see.

by the time x reaches 100, 200,

you will see

ln x is almost constant

Now I would like to exploit that property of lnx function

to evaluate that integral

So I say, since ln x very slowly changing function with x for large x values,

therefore I can consider it as a constant quantity for the moment

and therefore I can take lnx out of the integral

integral dx lnx is equal to lnx times integral dx, okay?

and that is equal to

ln x times x

let me write first x and then ln x

but this is not quite true, yet...

because for small values of x

ln x changing relatively fast

even if x is large, ln x still changes , but slowly.

this is an approximate solution

now I can make correction to it

to obtain the exact solution

that is, as you know istegral and derivative is inverse to each other

so if the integral of lnx dx is x times lnx, then

I should be able to obtain integral lnx dx by taking the derivative of x lnx , right?

so, after taking the derivative of x lnx

I should get integral lnx dx

what can I do to put minus one over there? I should ass minus x there in the solution

after introducing minus x (-1) in the solution

lets take the derivative again and see

if it gives ln x which is the correct target

the derivative of the first times the second, plus

the first times the derivative of the second, minus the derivative of minus x which is minus 1

plus 1 minus 1 is zero

therefore

I get only ln x

therefore the integral of lnx is actually x lnx-x

after evaluating that integral lets preceed

what was it the result of? It was the result of natural logarithm of N factorial for large N

ln N factorial is approximately equal to

(for large N)

which itself is equal to

x times ln x minus x

evaluated from 1 to N

putting the integral limits we get

ln N!=N times ln N

minus I will now put one for x

one times ln1

minus 1

ln 1 is already zero

minus minus 1 is plus one

therefore it is

ln N factorial is equal to

N times ln N plus1

Do not forget N is a large number

therefore I can safely ignore plus one

because as compared to N

one just a small number

I am deleting one

that is the result

even I can rearrange it a little bit

ln N factorial is equal to

N to the lnN minus N

because if we take logarithmic of a quantitiy

the power becomes multiplication

and now lets express both of the sides the power of e (exponential )

since lne=1

the left hand side becomes simply N factorial

N factorial is equal to N to the N

Now I get an expression for N factorial

Now I can calculate the factorial of large N

and that is called "Stirling Approximation"

for example 100 factorial is

100 to the power of 100 times

 [M오토데일리 박상우 기자] 쌍용자동차가 한국지엠과의 3 싸움에서 승리했다.  쌍용차와 한국지엠이 2일 발표한 월 판매실적에 따르면 지난달 내수판매 순위에서 쌍용차가 한 지엠을 제치고 3위를 차지했다

 쌍용차의 지난달 내수판매량은 전년동월대비 8.1% 감 한 9,684대, 한국지엠은 16

8% 감소한 9,529대로 격차는 불과 150여대에 불과하 .  쌍용차는 티볼리와 G4렉스턴이 지난해 같은 달보다 각 23

2%, 45.9% 감소했지만 렉스턴 스포츠가 출시 이후 처 으로 월 판매량 4천대를 돌파하는 저력을 발휘했다

 한국지엠은 부분변경 모델이 투입된 스파크가 전년동월대 1.9% 감소한 3,850대를 기록하며 회복세를 보였지만 말리부와 크루즈가 각각 77

6%, 63.7% 대폭 감소한 것이 컸다.  또 지난달부 판매를 시작한 이쿼녹스는 385대를 기록, 힘을 보태는 다소 부족했다

 한국지엠은 이달 말리부를 최대 290만원 할인해주는 주력모델을 대상으로 하는 파격적인 할인 프로모션을 운영, 3위를 탈환한다는 계획이다

I live in Chernihiv, and studying Choreography in Kyïv.

got to the 4th year of the education.

- You're a choreographer? - Yes.

- interesting! What kind of choreography? - modern dance.

- since 16 I've been teaching kids to dance.

this year I quit.

total 4 years of dance teaching.

doing photography since I was 15

went to Choreography because I thought that I'd be dancing more than shooting...

- How old are you now?

I'm 20

20 and you're already on the graduate stage in Choreography?

Will you teach dancing further?

- I don't really want that anymore...

I'm more into photography.

- So you're more towards photo, right?

- I've been a video blogger at age of 13

was inspired with Kate Clapp (Russian video blogger) and did a lot of videos

then, suddenly started doing photography.

started, liked it, found models

was shooting for free

shot all my friends 1000 times.

didn't watch any classes, evolved all by myself

experimented with Photoshop all the time...

My stepfather did outdoor ads

He did layouts in Photoshop and taught me a little.

I watched and learned.

- Where are you living now?

- during the Summer Break I'm here in Chernihiv

- studying in Kyïv and living in Chernihiv?

- yes, because it's the Summer Break I'm in my home town.

- Do you enjoy Kyïv ?

- now yes, before - not really... - why?

- I dunno, it's so big city.

What's important for you in your photography?

- you put a hard question.

Important to have everything to look harmonic.

harmony in colors.

I dunno, I just see what should be done

I don't deeply think things over

Post processing in Photoshop to make all look exactly as I wanted.

Almost spontaneous.

- How did you come up with the session? What was the idea of these girls in colored pantyhose?

I saw a photo on Instagram (shown on the left)

on somebody named "CLO"

Seen the two girls in colored pantyhose.

I saved this shot

Then went to the "Second" ... the biggest one in Kyïv

- "Second" is what?

- it's a store of used clothes.

- you bought used pantyhose??? - yes LOL

- is it legal to sell worn tights?

- in Kyïv and in Ukraine these things are wide spread...

it is normal.

- alright, you went to a second-hand store and then... ?

- I bought the colored pantyhose and thoguht "I gotta do something fancy with this"

bought three pairs, and the orange I had at my home.

Then posted the model search announcement.

- where did you find these girls? Who are they?

- just ordinary teen age girls, school students.

I post announcements on my page

"who wants to get free shots? Date and time of the shooting."

and lots of girls writing me wanting to participate.

I'm choosing those I like, then chatting on Insta privately

discussing the makeup, clothes. Tops, bottoms. shoes,

Makeups, hair styles.

- So you do castings yourself.

Where do you publish those castings?

- Both on Insta and VK

Don't have time to get to public boards

need to wait until they approve my announcement.

While I like doing all fast.

I agree, the modern world requires to move fast.

Made shots - published them immediately.

So these girls are just from the nearby school? From your school?

- from Chernihiv. They're 15-16 years old.

- that's clearly visible on your shots. It's awesome for sure!

How did you select them for this session? Why these girls specifically?

- I don't know. I look at faces, at bodies.

I wanted someone with nice shapes

Thin girls, sports shapes

I love girls with Baby Faces LOL

Sweet ones.

I've noticed that in this session all girls are around same height,

same body shapes, same facial form, and same hair length.

... and same hair color. Did you do that on purpose?

- I've chosen by height, but their hair length and color happened accidentally.

When they came I saw they have almost same hair length and color.

- And all are brunettes. How's that possible?

- no all, one has light brown hair. And she's the tallest one.

It all combined on the subconscious level.

I selected the first girl that I liked. And then matched other girls with her.

- subconsciously... ?

This is very revealing. I thought it was team work, with castings, producers, stylists.

But it turns out you made all this alone and intuitively. From your heart.

- I always work alone. Never use extra equipment: reflectors, flashes.

- Where these shots have been taken? River?

- In Chernihiv we have Desna River.

I've noted a good riverside location.

- with boats. - yes, yes!

We got there accidentally

A lot of fishermen were around, because of the rainy weather.

We came to enjoy the boats, the beautiful grass

Originally we wanted to get to a field

But then I thought a field with yellow rye spikelets

didn't like the yellow background idea,

I wanted to play with bright colors - green grass

- I get it. Wanted to play with vividness.

Did you shoot this all alone? How did you get to the place? - Alone.

- gotten there by a car or by walking?

- no, the river is right in the city.

- can get there by walking?

- yes, it's 2 minutes from the bus stop.

- the girls came by walk too?

- we met and got a bus all together. So that no one would get lost.

The girls changed their clothes in front of the fishermen there.

"Where do you change pantyhose?" I asked. "Right here, no prob!" the girls answered.

And those bras they changed right there too...

- I really want to work with you! Because I have an opposite situation.

most models are modest...

- Maybe because I'm a girl too, so they're comfortable with me?

I'm almost same age with them...

- Why did you chose the age of 15-16 ? Why school girls?

- I dunno, because they're my main audience.

- you mean your followers are school students?

- yeah, it's my audience. Because I worked with children on the choreography classes.

I shot them, and they shared my shots on their profiles.

So their classmates and friends came to follow me too.

That's why I have the audience of school students. Babies! - Super!

- tell me why pantyhose? Not stockings, not bare legs?

I don't know. I felt just good about pantyhose.

Because in pantyhose legs look longer and slimmer.

How often should you email your subscribers? - Duration: 5:45.

Hi, I'm Miriam Shaviv with today's edition of Mastering Email Marketing, and today I want to answer a question

which I get asked a lot! The question is 'How often should I email my list?' Now the reason people ask this,

and often very anxious about it, is because they, don't want to annoy their prospects. That's what

they feel, that if they email too much then

people will get sick of hearing them, and it will have the opposite effect of what they intended.

So there's lots of conflicting advice about this, I'm going to give you a really straight answer.

The minimum that you should be emailing

Your list is once a week.

Why do I say that? Because, in order to actually build up a relationship with

your email list and to be able to develop arguments and make a consistent case for them, to them,

you need to speak to them fairly regularly. There are lots of people, who say, 'Well maybe I'll only

email than once every couple of weeks ', Maybe I'll only email once a month'. The truth

is that is really not enough to build up

any kind of traction. If you're only emailing once every month, and even if you have a really great open rate of 30%, that means

that 70% of your list

did not hear from you that month, and it's a whole other month until they get a chance to hear from you again.

You really can't afford that, because you will never develop the relationship that you need with

your list. We've found that the frequency that works really, really well, as a minimum is once a week. I can

tell you without a fact, without, I can tell you without a doubt, that

we have seen a massive difference between the companies that email once a week and those that only email every second week.

Every second week, they never get the results that they want.

Companies that email every single week, and have something really really

regular in place, have amazing relationships with their list, who are really used to hearing from them, want to hearing,

want to hear from them. They can develop arguments over several weeks,

build up the case in a way that you just can't do if you're, not emailing enough.

But that isn't the end of the story, because the reality is, as I just said, that emailing once a week is

just the minimum. In reality

your list can probably bear to hear from you a lot

more than that. Now lots of business owners are very scared

by, this idea, 'Oh my God, if I email them more than once a week, they're gonna get completely overwhelmed'.

But that really is your fear speaking

It's not

necessarily how, your readers actually feel about your emails

and certainly if you are writing good emails,

there's probably much more scope there to write more than once a week. Of course if you're writing terrible emails, then don't!

Then you don't really, want to be writing at all until you've fixed that. But if you're writing really good emails, then

they, probably, will be open to hearing you

more than once, from you, more than once a week. There are many marketers out there that email every single day.

I even know a few that email twice a day, and their readers love it, their core

fans love it, because they love the emails.

Now given that this

may be, the idea of emailing more than once a week, might make you very anxious, and I know it does many business owners.

How do you handle that? Well my,

my. the way that I do it, is that you should always email

slightly, more than you are actually comfortable with. So if you're really only comfortable with emailing once a week,

just add one email every week, email twice, don't go every day.

Just email twice week and see what happens. You will probably see a little rise

in unsubscribe rates, but you will also see a rise in the open rates. More people will

want to read you, and you will get better feedback, and you'll develop more core fans. Once you're comfortable with

emailing twice a week, up it a little bit, add another email into the mix and keep on going

as far as you can in terms of capacity.

Obviously if this is killing you and killing your company, then there's a limit to how many times a week you can

email. But, keep on going until you really see some kind of negative

repercussion. If your emails are really good, I'm better that negative repercussion won't happen.

But the secret is to always email.

always get slightly out of your comfort zone, always email once or twice more than you are actually comfortable with.

Because I think that you'll be pleasantly surprised, how

many emails your your audience actually wants to receive. You are not your audience and you

may discover that your fears are not actually reflected in reality, by the way that your audience actually receives your emails.

Now if that sounds like a lot emailing even once a week and definitely more than that, then I have an amazing

way for you to write your emails really quickly and efficiently, not only without

sacrificing any quality, but actually, making them really really powerful emails.
