Anacropora Coral Care Tips - Duration: 4:56.
What's up everyone, welcome back to Tidal Gardens.
This video is all about a fairly uncommon SPS in the reef keeping hobby.
As you can tell by the title, it's the Anacropora.
Common name is briar coral, but I've never heard anyone call them that.
The Anacropora is one of those corals where the scientific name is the de facto common
name.
There are a few of them out there.
For example, have you ever heard anyone call THIS a pineapple coral?
Yeah, me neither.
Having said that…
Briar coral is a somewhat fitting name because as the colony gets larger the branches fuse
together resembling a briar patch.
As fas as classification goes, Anacropora is part of the Acroporidae family along with
popular corals such as Acropora and Montipora.
I always thought they looked like a more branching version of a Montipora setosa, especially
when you look at how the polyps are spaced out on the body and how there are no terminal
polyps at the tips of each branch like an Acropora would have.
As for color variants, I've only seen a few different color morphs which is kind of
disappointing considering how many color morphs other corals in this family have.
So far, I'm only aware of a tan color, electric green color, and a red color.
I would be interested to see if more color morphs are discovered, but that is a little
less likely these days because there are not many corals coming out of Indonesia where
these corals are typically found.
While I would not be in a huge hurry to recommend this SPS for beginners, it is fairly hardy
in comparison to some other SPS.
I have not seen crashes like RTN or STN, and I have not noticed any pests that bother them.
Anacropora is a very fast growing coral which is both a positive and negative.
Fast growing SPS make maintaining water chemistry more of a moving target.
Keeping constant levels of calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium is not terribly difficult early
on, but as colonies grow to 10 or even 100 times their original size they soak up a much
higher volume of major and minor elements, so what worked year 1 might not work so well
in year 2.
Once the colonies start growing, keep an eye out on these parameters and remember that
consistency is what to shoot for.
Here at Tidal Gardens we try to keep water chemistry close to natural sea water levels.
People like to keep their levels slightly higher than NSW because it provides a slight
buffer in the event of a dip, but it's more of a crutch because again consistency is the
goal rather than a particular value.
The upside to fast growth is that this coral is easily propagated.
Let's talk a second about lighting.
I would recommend either medium to light light, anything from 100 PAR to 300 PAR.
This coral will change color depending on the type and intensity of lighting provided.
More light = lighter colony color, medium light = more rich colors brown polyp color
which is lost in high light.
In addition to lighting, coral get nutrients from feeding.
Anacropora like many other SPS aren't ones to put on spectacular feeding displays and
many successful hobbyists don't make any special effort to feed them.
That said, if you wanted to be proactive about feeding take a look at very small meaty fare
such as rotifers and consider amino acids as well.
Lastly, I would recommend medium to high flow, but again pay attention to the size and density
of the colony.
As the colony grows and starts to bramble, less and less flow get to the interior polyps
so it may be necessary to add flow as time goes on.
My worry is if there isn't enough water flow you might run into issues where nutrients
can't get to the middle of the colony and waste can't get out leading to a collapse
from the inside out essentially.
Ok, that just about does it for Anacropora.

than Trump.
On top of that, on the same date in 2010, Obama's "strongly disapprove" rating
was 39% compared to his "strongly approve" rating of 32%, giving him a total approval
index of minus 7.
Trump's "strongly disapprove" rating is currently at 38% compared to his 35% "strongly
approve rating," giving him a total approval index of minus 3, which is four points better
than Obama.
This means that among Americans with forthright views, Obama was more unpopular than Trump
is now at the same stage of his presidency eight years ago.
Trump's rising approval rating was due largely to his stirring State of the Union speech
as well as to the recent tax cut.
This comes after Grabien News released a video montage exposing 140 lies from his own State
of the Union addresses.
Bizpac Review reported that Obama often made the same promise in his addresses year after
year, yet he never kept them.
For example, he repeatedly forecast the closing of Guantanamo Bay, the overhaul of corporate
taxes and the passage of comprehensive immigration reform, but delivered on none.
Back in 2010, Obama famously promised to pass health care reform that would let Americans
keep their insurance in 2010, and in 2009 and 2010 he assured Americans his administration
would go through the budget "line by line" and eliminate needless government programs.
In addition, Obama arrogantly pledged that numerous scientific breakthroughs were coming
under his watch, such as curing cancer which he promised in 2009, 2010 and again in 2015,
when he also declared the U.S. would colonize outer space and turn sunlight into liquid
fuel.

3 Skills to Make A Painting | Studio Tips with Mark Waller - Duration: 10:17.
For me there's three aspects of a painting or three skills that you can
develop that make a painting work. So the first one would be your physical skills
- so your ability to manipulate your paint and to get it to do what you want. The
second one would be your perception skills - so that would be your ability to
observe the world, and observe what you're painting and make changes and
things and then the third thing would be your conceptual skills and that's kind
of where you put those other skills together and that's where you
come up with an idea and you use your physical skills and your perception
skills to put all the information that you need to make an interesting painting.
And you know you've all been and gone into an art gallery somewhere and seen a
painting, and you can look at it and go something not right about that painting.
It might be a brilliant idea but poorly executed - or the person can
clearly paint, and it might be a great idea, but there's some information
missing that somehow leaves you a bit cold or or that doesn't
tell a story maybe as profoundly as it could. And the reason I say that is
because it's not a bad blowtorch to put over your own paintings. To look at it
and say you know "is this idea powerful", or is it saying what I want to
say? Is my technical skill - my ability to move my paint around - does
that support this story? And then my perception skills - have I put enough
information in there to make the story kind of work? And for me if
you can kind of look at a painting through those three things it makes it a
little bit easier to kind of troubleshoot and to find out where your
strengths are and where your weaknesses are. So I mentioned before there were sort of
three concepts that I think make a painting work or three skills that you
need to develop to make a nice painting, and one of them was your perception
skills. Now your perception skills on the surface it seems like it's just your
ability to go out in the world and find the information, but there's a bit more
to it than that. You get to kind of dance with people a little bit, in that you
work out then how much information you need to actually put into a painting to
tell the story, and how much you can get away with, and how you can twist people's
ideas of the story that you're trying to tell. And kind of - I don't like the word
manipulate - but a little bit of that perhaps as well. So I've got this
here, a little saying that everyone's seen at some stage and it's
this - and this kind of is a case in point. Now when you show this to people most of
the time, you'll say to them tell me what it is, and they'll say "the cat sat on
the mat" and some people will say "X". But interestingly enough, most people have
seen that a thousand times and they assume that they already know what it
says. So rather than actually looking at it in any detail, they'll just assume and
that's kind of how we're hardwired which is useful if you're a painter, because you
know that if you just put enough information there, their brains will do
the rest. The trap though as a painter, is to not look at the world like that - to look
at the world as though it's brand-new every time. And so every time you
might have seen something similar a million times, but you read every word
and you'll see there's two "ons". So our job is to not look at the world in a
tired way, or in a way that is where we miss information - but then our job as a
painter is to decide how much of that information we can put in and leave out
and how much of it we need to twist or turn to tell a story because for example
with this I don't have to tell the whole story.
I can just say "the cat sat on the" and most people's mind will straight away go
to "mat" so the whole painting process kind of works that way too - a couple of
the right lines and the right marks in the right colors and you have water! So
really be really alert to that skill - that perception skill - really look at the
world in real detail but also distill enough information out so that you know
that you can tell the story with very minimal brush strokes.
If you want to - it's a nice way to add layers to your painting.
So again we talked a little bit about the three skills that we need to make a
sophisticated painting - the physical skills, your perception skills and your
conceptual skills, but we'll talk a little bit about your physical skills
now, and your physical skills are your ability to move paint around. But they're
more than that, they're your ability to understand the nuance of the paint and
your ability to understand what marks a brush will make, and then it's
practicing with your brush enough so that most of those marks become almost
unconscious you don't actually have to stop and think about them. You know what
the brush will do, you know what the paint will do and then of course there's
a whole heap of things you can consider too about the surfaces that you're
painting on, and how the paint will behave on that, and how
better to tell a story. The beautiful thing about your physical skills is the best
way to develop them is to paint like a demon! A little bit later on we'll
go into the physical skills in a little bit more depth and sort of go into some
more theories and some practical applications to help develop those those
skills and your ability to move your paint around. So when I've got out of the
surf long enough to do all of that and go into that in a little bit more detail,
we'll put a link right there. So we're still considering those three skills - the
conceptual skills, the physical skills and your perception skills and what
we're going to look at a little bit now is your conceptual skills and they can
be trained as the other ones can. But these are really unique to you - this is
kind of where you get to put more of a stamp on the painting that tells your
story, and there's quite a few tools that you can use to try and make a painting
more dramatic or to kind of make it more interesting and compelling. So I'll
just grab a couple of canvases up now just to show you very simple things to
show you how a shift in perspective or shifting a couple of things can
completely change the feel of a painting.
So this painting's not finished, but one of the things here I've used to create a
little bit of drama is tone - so I've used these kind of grays and these kind of
more somber tones in the background and then started to push up all the
turquoises and the brighter colors in the foreground, and that sort of suggests
that there's something looming out to sea but you're still in sunshine and
that's just another little layer to add to a painting. And you can see it might
be just a subtle thing as I said about you know changing the tones and changing
the background, making the background darker or whatever - but it changes the
focus of the painting. Again, another piece in progress - but change your
perspective. So I started doing these a little while ago and now
everyone's gone and bought drones so they're not quite so special, but you can
see that by changing the perspective puts a completely different feel on the
landscape, and it changes the image in a
completely different way - just puts a different sort of a aspect on it. I did this
for an exhibition - I did a piece or a series of pieces of looking at the scene
in situ but then doing it again from directly above and that was a really fun
thing to different perspectives on the same piece - but again it's that little
twist on the concept that makes it a little bit more interesting.
Again, another image that I'm working on and again sort of illustrating that sort
of conceptual thing - I've stolen a sky and put it on a slightly different
landscape, modified the clouds and things just to kind of create a bit more drama.
So that conceptual part is about how you move the elements around in the
painting - how you use your physical skills, how you use your perception
skills to tell a story. So you know there's so many different ways - you can
crop a painting differently, there's so many ways that you can change
the drama of a painting. So really start considering your conceptual skills and
start considering different perspectives, different angles, different viewpoints,
shifts in color and things to see how you can really push the story out a
little bit more or just make the painting a little bit more intriguing or
curious

Well, I got to looking at my GPS and I was like dang
Lusk Creek isn't all that far away. So I figured I'd take a little stroll and
coffee in hand

And then kind of like to walk over to that direction so

actual hours either stills using time-lapse or video lapse

experimenting a little bit
And other than that, it's the exact same
GoPro battery in the camera itself
It's been recharged. It's at 80% right now. I
Haven't had to take this GoPro out of the refuel at all
So here it is I'm getting close to wrapping things up heading home
I think it was a good purchase now then I did find out some things
If your GoPro battery does get down to like zero percent
certain functions of the GoPro are going to not work anymore ie
Working with your cell phone through the app
Yeah, so that became a bother for a little bit
but
As long as you're not using the extra functions, you know, like using an app or something worth
With the GoPro you can control it
By the unit itself I recorded for a good little while yesterday even while the battery is at 1%
But when I activated the other features like the Wi-Fi to connect
No go
So I was a learning experience, so if you get one and you use an app, you know through your phone with your GoPro
Keep it go pro battery charged up
Don't let it get it down to 1% If you do then that functionality is gonna kick out
But that was a good little lesson learned, you know, it was a trial I wanted to test some stuff this weekend
My tarp is just phenomenal. I love the stinking thing
