Epic History: Russia (PARTS 1-5) - Rurik to Revolution - Duration: 47:00.

For thousands of years, the lands known today as Russia and Ukraine were inhabited by nomadic

tribes and mysterious Bronze Age cultures.

The only record they left were their graves.

In the great open grasslands of the south, the steppe, they buried their chieftains beneath

huge mounds called kurgans.

The Ancient Greek historian Herodotus called these people 'Scythians'.

Their lands were overrun by the same nomadic warriors who brought down the Roman Empire.

The land was then settled by Slavs.

They shared some language and culture, but were divided into many different tribes.

Vikings from Scandinavia, known in the east as Varangians, rowed up Russia's long rivers

on daring raids and trading expeditions.

According to legend, the East Slavs asked a Varangian chief named Rurik to be their

prince and unite the tribes.

He accepted and made his capital at Novgorod.

His dynasty, the Rurikids, would rule Russia for 700 years.

His people called themselves the Rus, and gave their name to the land.

Rurik's successor, Oleg, captured Kiev, making it the capital of a new state, Kievan Rus.

A century later, seeking closer ties with the Byzantine Empire to the south, Vladimir

the Great adopted their religion, and converted to Orthodox Christianity.

He is still venerated today as the man who brought Christianity to Ukraine and Russia.

Yaroslav the Wise codified laws and conquered new lands.

His reign marked the golden age of Kievan Rus.

It was amongst the most sophisticated and powerful states in Europe.

But after Yaroslav's death his sons fought amongst themselves.

Kievan Rus disintegrated into a patchwork of feuding princedoms... just as a deadly

new threat emerged from the east.

The Mongols under Genghis Khan had overrun much of Asia.

Now they launched a great raid across the Caucasus Mountains, and defeated the Kievan

princes at the Battle of the Kalka River, but then withdrew.

14 years later, the Mongols returned.

A gigantic army led by Batu Khan overran the land.

Cities that resisted were burnt, their people slaughtered.

The city of Novgorod was spared because it submitted to the Mongols.

Its prince, Alexander Nevsky, then saved the city again, defeating the Teutonic Knights

at the Battle of the Ice, fought above a frozen lake.

He remains one of Russia's most revered heroes.

The Mongols ruled the land as conquerors.

Their new empire was called the Golden Horde, ruled by a Khan from his new capital at Sarai.

The Rus princes were his vassals.

They were forced to pay tribute or suffer devastating reprisal raids.

They called their oppressors 'Tatars' - they lived under 'the Tatar yoke'.

Alexander Nevsky's son, Daniel, founded the Grand Principality of Moscow, which quickly

grew in power.

18 years later, Dmitri Donskoi, Grand Prince of Moscow, also defeated the Tartars... at

the great Battle of Kulikovo Field.

After years of infighting, the Golden Horde now began to disintegrate into rival khanates.

Constantinople, capital and last outpost of the once-great Byzantine Empire, fell to the

Turkish Ottoman Empire.

Some hailed Moscow as the 'Third Rome', the seat of Orthodox Christian faith, now Rome

and Constantinople had fallen.

Meanwhile, the Grand Princes of Moscow continued to expand their power, annexing Novgorod,

and forging the first Russian state.

At the Ugra River, Ivan III of Moscow faced down the Tatar army and forced it to retreat.

Russia had finally cast off the 'Tatar yoke'.

Under Grand Prince Vasili III, Moscow continued to grow in size and power.

His son, Ivan IV, was crowned the first Tsar of Russia.

He would be remembered as Ivan the Terrible.

Ivan conquered Tatar lands in Kazan and Astrakahan, but was defeated in the Livonian War by Sweden

and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

Ivan's modernising reforms gave way to a reign of terror and mass executions, fuelled by

his violent paranoia.

Russia was still vulnerable.

Raiders from the Crimean Khanate were able to burn Moscow itself.

But the next year Russian forces routed the Tatars at Molodi, just south of the city.

Cossacks now lived on the open steppe, a lawless region between three warring states.

They were skilled horsemen who lived freely, and were often recruited by Russia and Poland

to fight as mercenaries.

Ivan the Terrible's own son, the Tsarevich, fell victim to one of his father's violent

rages - bludgeoned to death with the royal sceptre.

The Cossack adventurer Yermak Timofeyevich led the Russian conquest of Siberia, defeating

Tatars and subjugating indigenous tribes.

In the north, Archangelsk was founded, for the time being Russia's only sea-port linking

it to western Europe, though it was icebound in winter.

Ivan the Terrible was succeeded by his son Feodor I, who died childless.

It was the end of the Rurikid dynasty.

Ivan's advisor Boris Godunov became Tsar.

But after his sudden death, his widow and teenage son were brutally murdered, and the

throne seized by an impostor claiming to be Ivan the Terrible's son.

He too was soon murdered.

Russia slid into anarchy, the so-called 'Time of Troubles'.

Rebels and foreign armies laid waste to the land, and the population was decimated by

famine and plague.

Polish troops occupied Moscow; Swedish troops seized Novgorod.

The Russian state seemed on the verge of extinction.

In 1612, Russia was in a state of anarchy.

They called it 'The Time of Troubles'.

The people were terrorised by war, famine and plague – up to a third of them perished.

Foreign troops occupied Moscow, Smolensk and Novgorod.

But then, Russia fought back.

Prince Pozharsky and a merchant, Kuzma Minin, led the Russian militia to Moscow, and threw

out the Polish garrison.

Since 2005, this event has been commemorated every 4th November, as Russian National Unity

Day.

The Russian assembly, the Zemsky Sobor, realised the country had to unite behind a new ruler,

and elected a 16 year old noble, Mikhail Romanov, as the next Tsar.

His dynasty would rule Russia for the next 300 years.

Tsar Mikhail exchanged territory for peace, winning Russia much-needed breathing-space.

His son, Tsar Alexei, implemented a new legal code, the Sobornoye Ulozheniye.

It turned all Russian peasants, 80% of the population, into serfs – effectively slaves

- their status inherited by their children, and with no freedom to travel or choose their

master.

It was a system that dominated Russian rural life for the next 200 years.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Nikon, imposed religious reforms that split

the church between Reformers and 'Old Believers'.

It's a schism that continues to this day.

Ukrainian Cossacks, rebelling against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, recognised

Tsar Alexei as overlord in exchange for his military support.

It led to the Thirteen Years War between Russia and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

Russia emerged victorious, reclaiming Smolensk and taking control of eastern Ukraine.

A revolt against Tsarist government, led by a renegade Cossack, Stenka Razin, brought

anarchy to southern Russia.

It was finally suppressed: Razin was brought to Moscow and executed by quartering.

The sickly but highly-educated Feodor III passed many reforms.

He abolished mestnichestvo, the system that had awarded government posts according to

nobility rather than merit, and symbolically burned the ancient books of rank.

But Feodor died aged just 19.

His sister Sofia became Princess Regent, ruling on behalf of her younger brothers, the joint

Tsars Ivan V and Peter I.

After centuries of conflict, Russia and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth signed a Treaty

of Eternal Peace.

Russia then joined 'the Holy League' in its war against the Ottoman Empire.

Sofia's reign also saw the first treaty between Russia and China, establishing the frontier

between the two states.

At age 17, Peter I seized power from his half-sister, Sofia.

Peter became the first Russian ruler to travel abroad.

He toured Europe with his 'Grand Embassy', seeking allies for Russia's war against Turkey,

and learning the latest developments in science and shipbuilding.

The war against Turkey was successfully concluded by the Treaty of Constantinople: Russia gained

Azov from Turkey's ally, the Crimean Khanate, and with it, a foothold on the Black Sea.

Peter made many reforms, seeking to turn Russia into a modern, European state.

He demanded Russian nobles dress and behave like Europeans.

He made those who refused to shave pay a beard tax.

Peter built the first Russian navy; reformed the army and government; and promoted industry,

trade and education.

In the Great Northern War, Russia, Poland-Lithuania and Denmark took on the dominant power in

the Baltic, Sweden.

The war began badly for Russia, with a disastrous defeat to Charles XII of Sweden at Narva.

But Russia won a second battle of Narva...

Before crushing Charles XII's army at the Battle of Poltava.

On the Baltic coast, Peter completed construction of a new capital, St.Petersburg.

The building of what would become Russia's second largest city among coastal marshes

was a remarkable achievement, though it cost the lives of many thousands of serfs.

The Great Northern War ended with the Treaty of Nystad: Russia's gains at Sweden's expense

made it the new, dominant Baltic power.

Four years before his death, Peter was declared 'Peter the Great, Father of His Country, Emperor

of All the Russias'.

Peter was succeeded by his wife Catherine; then his grandson Peter II, who died of smallpox

aged just 14.

Empress Anna Ioannovna, daughter of Peter the Great's half-brother Ivan V, was famed

for her decadence and the influence of her German lover, Ernst Biron.

During Anna's reign, Vitus Bering, a Danish explorer in Russian service, led the first

expedition to chart the coast of Alaska.

He also discovered the Aleutian Islands, and later gave his name to the sea that separates

Russia and America.

After Anna's death, her infant grand-nephew, Ivan VI, was deposed by Peter the Great's

daughter, Elizabeth.

Ivan VI spent his entire life in captivity, until aged 23, he was murdered by his guards

during a failed rescue attempt.

Elizabeth, meanwhile, was famed for her vanity, extravagance, and many young lovers.

But she was also capable of decisive leadership: in alliance with France and Austria, Elizabeth

led Russia into the Seven Years War against Frederick the Great of Prussia.

The Russian army inflicted a crushing defeat on Frederick at the Battle of Kunersdorf,

but failed to exploit its victory.

Meanwhile in St.Petersburg, the Winter Palace was completed at vast expense.

It would remain the monarch's official residence, right up until the Russian Revolution of 1917.

Peter III was Peter the Great's grandson by his elder daughter Anna Petrovna, who'd died

as a consequence of childbirth.

Raised in Denmark, Peter spoke hardly any Russian, and greatly admired Russia's enemy,

Frederick the Great - so he had Russia swap sides in the Seven Years War, saving Frederick

from almost certain defeat.

Peter's actions angered many army officers.

And he'd always been despised by his German wife, Catherine.

Together they deposed Peter III, who died a week later in suspicious circumstances.

His wife Catherine became Empress of Russia.

Her reign would be remembered as one of Russia's most glorious...

In the early 1700s, Peter the Great's reforms put Russia on the path to becoming a great

European power.

But it was his grandson's German wife, Catherine, who deposed her husband to become Empress

of Russia, who oversaw the completion of that transformation.

Like Peter, she too would be remembered as 'the Great'.

Catherine was a student and admirer of the French Enlightenment, and even corresponded

with the French philosopher Voltaire.

She reigned as an 'enlightened autocrat' – her power was unchecked, but she pursued ideals

of reason, tolerance and progress:

Catherine became a great patron of the arts, and learning.

Schools and colleges were built, the Bolshoi theatre was founded, as well as the Imperial

Academy of Fine Arts, while her own magnificent collection of artwork now forms the basis

of the world-famous Hermitage museum.

Catherine encouraged Europeans to move to Russia to share their expertise, and helped

German migrants to settle in the Volga region, where they became known as 'Volga Germans'.

Their communities survived nearly 200 years, until on Stalin's orders, they were deported

east at the start of World War 2.

Catherine's reign also saw enormous territorial expansion.

In the south, Russia defeated the Ottoman Empire, winning new lands, and the fortresses

of Azov and Kerch.

But then Catherine faced a major peasant revolt led by the renegade cossack Yemelyan Pugachev.

The rebels took many fortresses and towns, and stormed the city of Kazan, before they

were finally defeated by the Russian army.

Catherine then forcibly incorporated the Zaporozhian Cossacks into the Russian Empire, and annexed

the Crimean Khanate – a thorn in Russia's side for 300 years.

Russia's new lands in the south were named Novorossiya - 'New Russia'.

Sparsely populated, they were settled by Russian colonists under the supervision of Prince

Potemkin, Catherine's advisor and lover.

The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, exhausted by war and at the mercy of its neighbours,

was carved up in a series of partitions, with Russia taking the lion's share.

Poland did not re-emerge as an independent nation until 1918.

Russia inherited a large Jewish population from Poland, who, Catherine decreed, could

live only in the so-called 'Pale of Settlement', and were excluded from most cities.

In France, the French Revolution led to the execution of King Louis XVI.

Catherine was horrified, and in the last years of her reign, completely turned her back on

the liberal idealism of her youth.

Three years later, Catherine died, ending one of the most glorious reigns in Russian

history.

She was succeeded by her son, Paul, a man obsessed by military discipline and detail,

and opposed to all his mother's works.

Russia joined the coalition of European powers fighting Revolutionary France.

Marshal Suvorov, one of Russia's greatest military commanders, won a series of victories

against the French in Northern Italy, but the wider war was a failure.

Meanwhile, Paul's reforms had alienated Russia's army and nobility, and he was murdered in

a palace coup.

He was succeeded by his 23 year old son Alexander, who shared his grandmother Catherine's vision

for a more modern Russian state.

His advisor, the brilliant Count Mikhail Speranksy, reformed administration and finance, yet the

Emperor refused to back his plans for a liberal constitution.

Ultimately, it was war with France that would dominate Alexander's reign...

France had a new emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte, who inflicted a series of defeats on Russia

and her allies at Austerlitz, Eylau and Friedland.

But at Tilsit in 1807, the two young emperors met, and made an alliance.

Russia attacked Sweden, annexing Finland, which became an autonomous Grand Duchy within

the Russian Empire.

But then, in 1812, Napoleon invaded Russia.

At Borodino, French and Russian armies clashed in a gigantic battle, one of the bloodiest

of the age.

Napoleon emerged victorious, but the Russian army escaped intact.

Napoleon occupied Moscow, which was destroyed by fire.

And when Alexander refused to negotiate, the French army was forced to make a long retreat

through the Russian winter, and was annihilated.

Napoleon had been dealt a mortal blow.

And Russia, alongside Prussia, Austria and Britain, then led the fight back, which ended

in the capture of Paris and Napoleon's abdication.

At the Congress of Vienna, as part of the spoils of war, Alexander became 'King of Poland'.

Then, with Austria, and Prussia, he formed 'The Holy Alliance', with the aim of preventing

further revolutions in Europe.

Meanwhile, in the Balkans and Caucasus, Russia had been waging intermittent wars against

the Ottoman Empire, Persia and local tribes.

The frontier had been pushed south to incorporate Bessarabia, Circassia, Chechnya, and much

of modern Georgia, Dagestan, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.

But the peoples of the Caucasus bitterly resisted Russian rule.

Russia's attempt to impose its authority on the region led to the Caucasian War, a brutal

conflict, fought amongst the mountains and forests, that would drag on for nearly 50

years.

Alexander was succeeded by his brother Nicholas, a conservative and reactionary.

But parts of Russian society had now developed an appetite for European-style liberalism

– including certain army officers, who'd seen other ways of doing things during the

Napoleonic Wars.

They saw Nicholas as an obstacle, and the new Emperor's first challenge... would be

military revolt.

1825.

Victory over Napoleon had confirmed Russia's status as a world power.

But there was discontent within Russia amongst intellectuals and army officers, some of whom

had formed secret societies, to plot the overthrow of Russia's autocratic system.

When Emperor Alexander was succeeded not, as expected, by his brother Constantine, but

by a younger brother, Nicholas, one of these secret societies used the confusion to launch

a military coup.

But the Decembrist Revolt, as it became known, was defeated by loyalist troops, and the ringleaders

were hanged.

Others were sent into 'internal exile' in Siberia.

This was to become a common sentence for criminals and political prisoners in Tsarist Russia.

Nicholas went on to adopt an official doctrine of 'Orthodoxy, Autocracy, and Nationality'

– the state was to rest on the pillars of church, Tsar, and the Russian national spirit

- a clear rejection of the values of European liberalism.

In the Caucasus, border clashes with Persia led to a war which ended in complete Russian

victory.

The Treaty of Turkmenchay forced Persia to cede all its territories in the region to

Russia, and pay a large indemnity.

Russian support for Greece in its War of Independence against the Ottomans, led to war between Russia

and the Ottoman Empire.

Russian victory brought further gains in the Black Sea region.

A Polish revolt, led by young army officers, was crushed by Russian troops.

Alexander Pushkin, Russia's greatest poet, was shot in a duel, and two days later died

from his wounds.

Nicholas sent troops to help put down a Hungarian revolt against Austrian rule.

The Emperor's willingness to help suppress liberal revolts won him the nickname, 'the

Gendarme', or policeman, of Europe.

Russia's first major railway was opened, connecting St.Petersburg and Moscow.

Alexander Herzen, a leading intellectual critic of Russia's autocracy, emigrated to London,

where he continued to call for reform in his homeland.

He'd later be described as 'the father of Russian socialism'.

The Ottoman Empire, now known as 'the sick man of Europe', reacted to further Russian

provocations by declaring war.

The Russian Black Sea Fleet inflicted a crushing defeat on the Turks at the Battle of Sinope.

But Britain and France - alarmed at Russia's southern expansion, and potential control

of Constantinople – declared war on Russia.

The Allies landed troops in Crimea and besieged the naval base of Sevastopol, which fell after

a gruelling, year-long siege.

In the Baltic, British and French warships blockaded the Russian capital, St.Petersburg.

Russia was forced to sign a humiliating peace, withdraw its forces from the Black Sea, and

put on hold plans for further southern expansion.

Nicholas I was succeeded by his son, Alexander II.

The Crimean War had exposed Russia's weakness – the country lagged far behind its European

rivals in industry, infrastructure and military power.

So Alexander, unlike his father, decided to embrace reform.

The most obvious sign of Russia's backwardness was serfdom.

According to the 1857 census, more than a third of Russians were serfs, forced to work

their masters' land, with few rights, restrictions on movement, and their status passed down

to their children.

They were slaves in all but name.

In 1861, Alexander II abolished serfdom in Russia.

He was hailed as 'The Liberator'.

But in reality, most former-serfs remained trapped in servitude and poverty.

Alexander's reforms would continue, with the creation of the zemstva - provincial assemblies

with authority over local affairs, including education and social welfare.

In the Far East, Russia forced territorial concessions from a weakened China, leading

to the founding of Vladivostok, Russia's major Pacific port.

Another uprising by Poles and Lithuanians against Russian rule was once more crushed

by the Russian army.

In the Caucasus, Russia's long and brutal war against local tribes came to an end, with

their leaders swearing oaths of loyalty to the Tsar.

In Central Asia, the Russian Empire was gradually expanding southwards.

Russian armies defeated the Emirate of Bukhara, and the Khanate of Khiva, and by the 1880s,

Russia had conquered most of what was then called Turkestan – today, the countries

of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

Imperial rivalry in Central Asia between Russia and Britain led to 'the Great Game' – a

19th century version of the Cold War.

Centred on Afghanistan, diplomats and spies on both sides tried to win local support,

extend their own influence, and limit the expansion of their rival - while avoiding

direct military confrontation.

Russia decided to sell Alaska to America for 7.2 million dollars.

Many Americans thought it was a waste of money – gold and oil were only discovered there

much later.

Leo Tolstoy's 'War & Peace' was published, still regarded as one of the world's greatest

works of literature.

The late 19th century was a cultural golden age for Russia: a period of literary greats,

and outstanding composers.

Russia, in support of nationalist revolts in the Balkans against Ottoman rule, went

to war with the Ottoman Empire once more.

Russian troops crossed the Danube... then, with Bulgarian help, fought to secure the

vital Shipka Pass.

Then they launched a bloody, five-month siege of Plevna, in Bulgaria.

Russia and her allies finally won victory, with their troops threatening Constantinople

itself.

But at the Congress of Berlin, Russia bowed to international pressure, and accepted limited

gains, in a settlement that also led to independence for Romania, Serbia, Montenegro, and later,

Bulgaria.

Meanwhile, within Russia, radical political groups were increasingly frustrated by Alexander

II's limited reforms.

There were several failed attempts to assassinate the Emperor.

But as he prepared to approve new constitutional reforms, he was killed in St.Petersburg by

a bomb thrown by members of the People's Will – one of the world's first modern terrorist

groups.

This act of violence would lead only to a new era of repression.

In 1881, Russian Emperor Alexander II was assassinated by left-wing terrorists in St.Petersburg.

Today, the place where he was fatally wounded is marked by the magnificent Church of the

Saviour on Spilled Blood.

Alexander II had been a reformer, hailed as 'the Liberator' for freeing Russia's serfs.

But his son and successor, Alexander III, believed his father's reforms had unleashed

dangerous forces within Russia, that ultimately led to his death.

As Emperor, he publicly vowed to reassert autocratic rule, declaring that, 'in the midst

of our great grief, the voice of God orders us to undertake courageously the task of ruling,

with faith in the strength and rightness of autocratic power.'

The Tsar's secret police, the so-called 'Okhranka', was ordered to infiltrate Russia's many revolutionary

groups.

Those found guilty of plotting against the government were hanged or sent into 'internal

exile' in Siberia.

Alexander III was a pious man, who supported the Orthodox church, and the assertion of

a strong Russian national identity.

Russia's Jews became victims of this policy.

They'd already been targeted in murderous race riots known as 'pogroms', after false

rumours were spread that they were responsible for the assassination of the emperor.

Now the government expelled 20,000 Jews from Moscow, and many who could began to leave

the country.

Over the next 40 years, around two million Jews would leave Russia, most bound for the

USA.

Concerned by the growing power of Germany, Russia signed an alliance with France, both

sides promising military aid if the other was attacked.

Sergei Witte was appointed Russia's new Minister of Finance.

His reforms helped to modernise the Russian economy, and encourage foreign investment

– particularly from its new ally, France.

French loans helped Russia to develop its industry and infrastructure:

Work began on the Trans-Siberian railway.

Completed in 1916, it remains the world's longest railway line, running 5,772 miles

from Moscow to Vladivostok.

Alexander III was succeeded by his son Nicholas II.

His coronation was marred by tragedy, when 1,400 people were crushed to death at an open-air

celebration in Moscow.

China granted Russia the right to build a naval base at Port Arthur.

When China faced a major revolt known as the Boxer Rebellion, Russia moved troops into

Manchuria, under the pretext of defending Port Arthur from the rebels.

This brought Russia into conflict with Japan, who also had designs over Manchuria, and Korea.

The Japanese made a surprise attack on Port Arthur, then defeated the Russian army at

the giant Battle of Mukden.

Russia's Baltic Fleet, meanwhile, had sailed half way around the world to reach the Pacific...

where it was immediately annihilated at the Battle of Tsushima.

Russia was left with no option but to sign a humiliating peace, brokered by US President

Theodore Roosevelt.

Meanwhile the Tsar faced another crisis much closer to home.

In St.Petersburg, a strike by steel-workers had escalated, and plans were made for a mass

demonstration.

Tens of thousands of protesters marched to the Winter Palace to present a petition to

the Tsar, asking for better workers' rights and more political freedom.

But instead, troops opened fire on the crowds, killing more than 100.

'Bloody Sunday', as it became known, led to more strikes and unrest across the country.

The crew of the battleship Potemkin mutinied, killing their officers and taking control

of the ship.

To defuse the crisis, Nicholas II reluctantly issued the October Manifesto, drafted under

the supervision of Sergei Witte.

It promised an elected assembly and new political rights, including freedom of speech, and was

welcomed by most moderates.

Russia's first constitution was drafted the next year.

For the first time, the Tsar would share power with an elected assembly, the state duma – though

the Tsar had the right to veto its legislation, and dissolve it at any time.

Sergei Witte finally lost the Tsar's confidence, and was dismissed.

The Tsar's new Prime Minister, Stolypin, introduced land reforms to help the peasants, while dealing

severely with Russia's would-be revolutionaries.

So much so, that the hangman's noose got a new nickname - 'Stolypin's necktie'.

But having survived several attempts on his life, Stolypin was shot and killed by an assassin

at the Kiev Opera House.

Meanwhile, Grigori Rasputin, a Siberian faith healer, had joined the Imperial family's inner

circle, thanks to his unique ability to ease the suffering of the Tsar's haemophiliac son,

Alexei.

Despite sporadic acts of terrorism, Russia now had the fastest growing economy in Europe.

Agricultural and industrial output were on the rise.

Most ordinary Russians remained loyal to the Tsar and his family.

Russia's future seemed bright.

In 1914, in Sarajevo, a Slav nationalist assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian

throne, sparking a European crisis.

When Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, Emperor Nicholas ordered the Russian army

to mobilise, to show his support for a fellow Slav nation.

Austria-Hungary's ally, Germany, saw Russian mobilisation as a threat, and declared war.

Europe's network of alliances came into effect, and soon all the major powers were marching

to war.

World War One had begun.

Russia experienced a wave of patriotic fervour.

The capital, St.Petersburg, was even renamed Petrograd, to sound less German.

An early Russian advance into East Prussia ended with heavy defeats at Tannenberg and

the Masurian Lakes.

There was greater success against Austria-Hungary, but that too came at a high price.

Russian losses forced the army to make a general retreat in 1915.

In 1916, Russia's Brusilov Offensive against Austro-Hungarian forces was one of the most

successful Allied attacks of the war.

But losses were so heavy, that the Russian army was unable to launch any more major operations.

In Petrograd, Rasputin, whose alleged influence over the Tsar's family was despised by certain

Russian aristocrats, was murdered, possibly with the help of British agents.

The war put intolerable strains on Russia.

At the front, losses were enormous.

While in the cities, economic mismanagement led to rising prices and food shortages.

In Petrograd, the workers' frustration led to strikes and demonstrations.

Troops ordered to disperse the crowds refused, and joined the protesters instead.

The government had lost control of the capital.

On board the imperial train at Pskov, senior politicians and generals told the Emperor

he must abdicate, or Russia would descend into anarchy, and lose the war.

Nicholas accepted their advice, and renounced the throne in favour of his brother, Grand

Duke Michael, who, effectively, declined the offer.

300 years of Romanov rule were at an end.

Russia was now a republic.

A Provisional Government took power, but could not halt Russia's slide into economic and

military chaos.

Meanwhile, workers, soldiers and peasants elected their own councils, known as 'soviets'.

The Petrograd Soviet was so powerful, it was effectively a rival government, especially

as discontent with the Provisional Government continued to grow.

The Bolsheviks, under Vladimir Lenin, attracted growing support, with their radical proposals

for an immediate end to the war, the redistribution of land, and transfer of power to the soviets.

In October, they launched a coup, masterminded by Leon Trotsky.

Bolshevik Red Guards stormed the Winter Palace, where the Provisional Government met, and

arrested its members.

Lenin and the Bolsheviks were now in charge.

Russia had been thrown upon a bold and dangerous course - under a Marxist-inspired revolutionary

party, it would now seek to create the world's first communist state.

But first, it would have to survive the chaos and slaughter of one of history's bloodiest

civil wars.

DIY How To Make Greeting Card For Christmas Holidays ! Record Your Personal Voice Message ! - Duration: 3:24.

what's going on guys this is Kedar

here so first of all Merry Christmas To All

of You Guys !!!

let's Start New Year so whether it's a mery

Christmas r a birthday for any occasion you

need this greeting card or gifts high

i personally this ordinary greeting cards

do convey a message but the

personally conveyed voice message would be really great !

so today in this video I'm going

to show you how to make a personally

voice recorded greeting card so let's get started

you need to push the call button in

order to record your message

"hello guys" so your messages recorded now

now if you put this circuit into the

greeting card it will read your wish so first of all you need any

kind of greeting card you can choose

whatever typeyou want or you can also

build it yourself

now these are the parts you're going to

need first you need a 3.7 volts battery

alternatively you can use this cr2032

coincell battery along with its battery

holder also you need a light dependent

resistor or an ldr and you'll also need

this voice recording circuit this is ISD

1820 so let's see how to make this greeting card

Now by default there are two jumpers

are installed onto this board now you

need to remove this lower jumper like

this one and there is a P-E written on

to this two terminals so you need to

install an ldr onto this termnals

so let's just do that

cut the LDR in about this size

now take two pieces of this female

headers and installer ldr on to it after

doing that install this ldr onto p dash

e terminal now power this circuit by

connecting the battery and you will hear

your recorded voice rapidly

so this is happening because the LDR

is getting light and it detects that

greeting card is opened but if you completely

cover the ldr it will not play the voice

anymore as you can see when I covered up

it doesn't play the music

otherwise it will play the music if you

want to record a message

remove the ldr from p dash e location

and connect the battery at VCC and

ground remember the polarities that's

really important then you need to push

record button in order to record your

voice message

"hello guys "so your messages recorded now

so to activate this greeting card place

the ldr into P dash E location now you

can install some double-sided tape onto

the speaker and circuit board to secure

onto the greeting card

ok guys so now you can record your

custom voice message as many times as you

want and send it to your dear once so

hope you liked this video guys hit that

like button below share this video with

your friends along with the greeting

cards and there's always thanks for watching guy's peace !

Jeep Wrangler External 2-3/4" Speaker w/ Embossed Jeep Logo (1987-2017 YJ, TJ, & JK) Review - Duration: 3:20.

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review of the External Speaker with

Jeep logo, fitting all 1987 and up Wranglers.

Today we're gonna talk through the installation of the speaker, as well as the construction

and a few of the other features.

This speaker is going to be for those of you who are running a CB Radio in your Jeep that

may be remote mounted, or you just want some additional volume out of your speakers.

Now, this speaker does have a three and a half millimeter inputs, so really anything

with a headphone jack can be played through the speaker.

However, really the main purpose of this is for CB Radio.

This is going to be a little bit more expensive than some because it does have the Jeep logo

on it, but overall it's a pretty nice piece.

As far as construction goes, this is a two and three quarter inch speaker that has a

six-foot-long auxiliary cord, with a three and a half millimeter end on it.

The speaker itself as you can see, does have the Jeep logo stamped right into the mesh

grill or in front of the speaker, so this is really designed to be mounted on the dash

or somewhere that's going to be visible.

If you're gonna hide this speaker, you could certainly get one that's a little bit less

expensive that doesn't have the Jeep logo on it.

As far as mounting goes, this does have a U-shape bracket that comes with it and a pair

of thumbscrews on the sides that you can very easily adjust the tilt of the speaker.

Now, one thing that is important to remember about this speaker is that it is not powered.

So, if you're going to be mounting your CB Radio remotely, and you wanna be able to move

the speaker up where it's going to be much easier to hear, this is going to work for

you.

However, if you're looking to get a lot more volume or have an amplified speaker, this

is not going to be that solution.

For installation, I would give this a very simple one out of three wrenches.

This comes with all the hardware that you need to mount it anywhere you're willing to

drill a hole.

So, you could certainly mount this up on your dash, on your center console or really anywhere

that you wanna pop a hole.

As far as getting it wired, all you need to do is plug the three and a half millimeter

jack into your CB Radio and you're good to go.

As I mentioned before, you could really plug anything into this speaker.

However, it's really designed for a CB Radio.

The whole installation won't take you more than an hour, and you won't need any specialty

tools.

However, you will be needing a drill to drill that hole wherever you decide to mount the

speaker.

Like I said before, this speaker is going to be more expensive than other non-amplified

speakers that don't have the Jeep logo on them.

So, if this fits with your build, if you are going to be putting this right up on your

dashboard where it's visible, and you like the fact that it has the logo, it's probably

worth a few extra dollars.

However, if you are going to be hiding this or you're not as interested in the Jeep logo,

you can save a few dollars by getting one that doesn't have that on the grill.

Again, any non-powered speaker like this is certainly going to be less expensive than

a powered amplified speaker.

So, if that's what you're looking for, you are going to have to spend a few more dollars.

So, if you plan on mounting your CB Radio in the center console, in the glove box or

anywhere else that the internal speaker won't be easy to hear, this is going to be a really

nice external speaker solution that has the Jeep logo on it, so it's gonna look good as

well.

So, that's my review of the External Speaker with Jeep logo, fitting all 1987 and up Wranglers,

that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

Jeep Wrangler Rugged Ridge Exo Top (2007-2017 JK 4 Door) Review & Install - Duration: 6:26.

I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review and installation of the Rugged

Ridge Exo Top, fitting all 2007 and up JKs.

There is of course a version of this top available for those of you with the two-door and the

four-door JK, so make sure you get the right one for your Jeep.

Today we're gonna talk through the installation of this top which is a two out of three wrench

installation.

There is no major modification or drilling necessary to get this installed on your Jeep.

But because this is a roof rack and a soft-top in one, there are a lot of pieces and the

installation is a little bit more involved than some of the other tops that are available.

We're also gonna talk through the construction and a few of the features of the top.

This top is for those of you who are looking for a very unique soft-top that has a lot

of unique features but also has a built-in roof rack that is also very functional.

This top is very different because it actually is a soft-top suspended from a roof rack,

as opposed to a standard frame top that is a top stretched over the frame.

That allows you to utilize the roof rack without having to change anything with your top, you

can throw items right up onto the roof rack at any time without needing to make any modifications

to the top.

However, if you have the roof rack already loaded, you can still put the top back.

Again, very unique, a lot of different configurations.

Now, because you are getting a soft-top and a roof rack in one and you do have so much

functionality here, this is going to be a little bit more expensive than some of the

other soft tops on the market.

However, I don't think you're going to find a high quality roof rack and a quality soft-top

with all of these features that you can buy for the cost of this top.

As far as construction goes, as I mentioned this is a roof rack and a soft-top.

The roof rack itself is made of steel, covered in a textured black powder coat finish.

And like I said before, you don't have to do any major modifications or drilling to

the Jeep to get it installed, although it does attach to the sport cage in a couple

of different locations.

And you will have to do a little bit of cutting on your sport cage covers.

It's not really a big deal, you're just making a couple of slits so that you can get all

of your brackets installed.

And if you were ever to remove this top and go back to either a standard hardtop or soft-top,

chances are you're not going to notice those small slits anyway.

Once you have the roof rack installed, of course the second portion of this is the soft-top.

This does come with tinted windows and it's a standard OEM soft-top material.

So it's gonna hold up really well, it's going to hold the weather out, keep the warmth in

and of course, be good and watertight as long as you install it properly.

Like I said before, what makes this top unique is that it's just soft-top suspended from

a roof rack.

So as you can see behind me, you have your soft-top hanging on the inside of the roof

rack with buckles and velcro, giving you a very safari like look.

There are also a ton of different configurations with this top.

Like your standard top that has a sun rider feature, you can just flip the front of the

top back.

But instead of it holding back, it actually slides back.

You can also slide it back further to give an open air driving experience for both the

front and the rear seat passengers.

There are also configurations where you can remove the rear three windows, giving you

a very safari look and feel where you can still have a cover over the passengers keeping

the sun off of your head, but not have the windows then giving you again that open air

driving experience.

Finally, you can fold the top so that it lives completely over the sound bar which gives

you that completely top down feel.

Of course you still have the roof rack in place or you can fold your top into the trunk

area like a standard soft-top, giving you a ton of different configurations.

This is a very versatile top.

And no matter which configuration you are in, you still have that roof rack that's able

to hold 300 pounds.

So whether you're just rolling around on the street and need some additional cargo space

or if you're carrying all your gear to the campsite for the weekend, you're gonna have

more than enough room.

As far as the installation goes, I am gonna give this a two out of three wrenches.

It's not that this is a particularly difficult installation but there are a lot of steps

because you're installing both the roof rack and the soft-top at the same time.

The first step in the installation is to remove whatever top you currently have on your Jeep

completely.

After that, you can assemble the roof rack portion of your Exo Top and install that on

your Jeep.

The next step is to install the slider and bow assemblies and this is where you have

to make a couple of small slits in your sport cage covers.

Don't worry, when you remove this top and go back to any other top, it's not something

you're really gonna notice.

Most of you shouldn't be bothered by making these small cuts.

After that bow and slider assembly is in place, the next step is actually putting the soft-top

in place but because this is a soft-top that suspends from the roof rack instead of being

stretched over a frame like a factory top, you install it a little bit differently.

You're going to start from the back putting the soft-top underneath the roof rack but

over top of the seats.

Slide it forward toward the windshield frame and use the velcro and the straps to attach

it to the roof rack.

Finally, once that is completely installed, you can then install your three windows and

you're finished.

The whole installation process is probably going to take you right around three hours.

And while you don't need any specialty tools, you are working on a Jeep so you are going

to need some torque space to get this done.

When you consider the value that you get with this top for the purchase price, it is a little

bit difficult because there's not a lot to compare it to.

This is a very unique item.

However, if you look at the cost of a quality soft-top and a quality roof rack and add it

together, it's certainly going to be more than the cost of the Exo top.

So if you're going to use the functionality of the roof rack and all of the different

configurations available of the soft-top, I think that this is a really good buy.

Still, whether you have a hardtop on your Jeep and you're looking for a soft-top and

a roof rack or you currently have a soft-top but you like the look and the functionality

of this configuration, I think this is a very fairly priced roof rack and soft-top that

is unique and unlike anything else you can find.

So that's my review of the Rugged Ridge Exo Top, fitting all 2007 and up JKs that you

can find right here at extremeterrain.com.

The Perfect Diablo Sequel (Diablo IV Concept / Diablo IV Details / Diablo 2 Versus Diablo 3 Pt. 2) - Duration: 20:30.

What would constitute a perfect successor to the Diablo series?

Based on the immense response and feedback to my comparison of Diablo II and Diablo III,

I decided I'd follow it up with what I believe could be done to re-energize the popular franchise.

This is based on what I like about each of the entries of the Diablo trilogy, Path of

Exile, Torchlight 1 & 2, and other Hack 'n' Slashers.

But I've also read through hundreds of posts, polls and comments and have taken into account

many people's requests or concerns of the past games, but there is a definite measure

of subjectivity here, so really this is what I would try to do if I was somehow the director

of the next Diablo game.

I've put together a high-level concept, I'm not stating that I would know what works and

what doesn't without actually building a game and playtesting it thoroughly.

So without further ado, I now present my "Blueprint to a Perfect Diablo Sequel".

In almost unanimous agreement, Diablo lost quite a bit of soul in it's last entry in

the tone and visual design department.

Though a Mature-rated game, it didn't scratch the thematic itch many were expecting:

Bloody.

Gothic.

Horror.

In this regard it could learn a few things from the first two games, particularly the

original.

Tension and purpose should firstly be communicated through your adversaries, and whispers of

their horrific acts from the townspeople.

Shambling undead, inferno-brandishing demons and blood ritual cultists should be your unwelcoming

hosts to this forsaken tour through purgatory.

Monsters so odious and despicable, you're driven to destroy them for the sake of others.

Or so putrid and miserable, for their own sake.

Accompanied by disfigured and dangerous antagonists -- like towering murderers from a slasher

film, striding toward you with an unquenchable bloodlust in their eyes.

Whether exclaiming their taste for "Fresh Meat", or chilling you to the bone with the

infamous, "Not even DEATH can save you from me..."

Fear is also based on the power dynamic between the player character and the world itself.

In the first game, you were a simple adventurer unfortunate enough to be in Tristram, and

foolish enough to enter The Cathedral.

You weren't a hero, you weren't a 'Nephalem', you felt weak and up against a great and powerful

enemy.

Just another corpse for the pile.

You just didn't know it yet.

You are after all, entering decrepit crypts, dungeons and installations of torture, malice

and demonic possession.

There should be a seamless transition from wandering outside to entering a dungeon, where

it takes a second to adjust your eyes to the barely visible outlines of your new ill-lit

environs -- omnipresent darkness scarcely thwarted by the flicker of your torch.

Leaving these halls and chambers, if even to be greeted by the dreary light of overcast,

should be blinding -- a stark reminder of the both literal and moral darkness you're

fighting against.

A sense of suspended dread should be present at all times.

There would be foreboding grimoires, books and other scraps that are scattered around

the world, not telling whole stories but indirectly alluding to lore and setting details that

you would have to piece together and interpret if you so wish.

Lore bits could even be rationed in each playthrough and picked by roulette, so you wouldn't learn

everything on the first few runs.

Think Dark Souls with the spice of chaos and randomization thrown in.

The main plot could be anything from tales of the Sin War, the origins of the worldstone,

soulstones, the prequel to the original Diablo host or the events leading up to Tal Rasha's

imprisonment of Baal.

Permanence and flexibility are two ends of the character progression design spectrum

that each have their merits...and disadvantages.

Irreversible application of skill and attribute points all too often leads to suboptimal builds,

whereas the "loadout" system lets you dramatically transform your character at a whim, at the

cost of the illusion that your character is truly your own.

I would propose a system that gives the player permanent choices, and fairer application

of progression resources.

It could work like this: each time you level, you could apply points to both passive perks

an active skills.

Each passive would be assigned to an Attribute tree (such as Strength, Dexterity, Vitality

and Energy), and let's say the acquisition of a Strength perk, the ability to deflect

ranged attacks with a shield, would simultaneously improve your Strength.

Say you bought the Energy perk 'Quick Casting', that would add to your Energy attribute too.

Similarly, with active skills, acquisition of one of your class trees' skills would buff

the branch of that class.

Using Diablo II as a reference, say you added a point into Clay Golem, Iron Golem and Blood

Golem, that would increase your Golem branch level by three points, which affects each

of the aforementioned skills.

So even if your build is questionable, points applied would still develop your character's

powers in those branches, removing progression waste and obsolete skill buys.

Re-specs could also be in the game, but at a heavy gold, material or experience level

cost.

Some active abilities could be affected by the weapon type you use.

For example, with a flame ability, a dagger might make a potent but short-range flame,

the swing of a staff might make a diluted flame cone, and a spear would make a narrow

but longer range spike of fire.

This wouldn't apply to all weapons and all abilities, but it would allow some flexibility

of sorts similar to Guild Wars 2's weapon and ability system, but without completely

redefining your character on a whim.

Classes would be diverse in ability and role, and could have synergistic skills to work

both solo or with others in a party.

Classes would also be very flexible and able to be developed into a wide array of viable

builds, rather than be locked into a few workable molds.

In keeping with the grimdark horror atmosphere and theme, class ideas and names could be

introduced such as an Executioner (essentially a more thematic Barbarian); Witchhunter (master

of swords, bows and debuffs); Demonologist, who could use Evil's power against itself,

at some unholy cost; Bloodmages, Hexers or Lycanthropes.

Healers and buffers, such as a Cleric or Inquisitor, could keep themselves and their peers alive

while wielding magic powerful against the undead.

Sorcerors, Arcanists, and other spellcasters would be in order.

It would be interesting to have a dedicated Summoner class, who conjures a single mighty

golem or other such creature, with some inspiration from the underrated 2001 game, Summoner.

The Necromancer would return also, who relies on reviving a horde of the dead in many shapes,

sizes and forms to combat their enemies.

To reward dedicated players of the game, but not devolve into an eternal grind would be

to take the Paragon Level system and turn it into bragging rights rather than stat bonuses,

each level granting currency for purchasing rare and collectable vanity items to show

off.

Gameplay Loop & Combat Mechanics You know what they say about too much of a

good thing.

This axiom could be applied to combat.

If there is no ebb and flow, no pacing, fighting monsters with all the flashiness, feedback

and shock value on a constant "ON" can turn gameplay into a hazy blur, rather than a tense

and rewarding experience.

Pace monsters out, provide quiet areas for building atmosphere or exploring, offer basic

puzzles or mind challenges in-between the reflex-based ones.

These changes can help make fighting seem more meaningful, as well as vary up the gameplay

and make it more interesting.

To make terrain, combat strategy and puzzles more engaging, a full physics engine could

be implemented.

You can see the foundations of such logic and interactivity in the Diablo games, but

they never take it very far past an occasional distraction.

If you took cues from the brilliant Divinity: Original Sin games, you could see dynamic

situations that would fluctuate based on the materials and physics at hand.

Heat, cold, gravity, inertia.

These are all things that make environments much more interactive and immersive.

Cast a frost ray at that monster in the puddle to freeze him in place, swing your hammer

at a pack of barrels to launch them as projectiles, throw a burning flask to thaw out an icy wall

or burn down an impasse of vines.

With logical chemical and physics-grounded reactions in place in the game engine, interesting

and emergent gameplay could make peaks in the standard hack-and-slash rhythm.

New mechanics and challenges in boss battles could come about when a certain element is

present that you have to avoid or counteract.

A swoosh of wind to put out a fire, freeze a tentacle in place before it slithers away

to safety, or fling stones toward a distant column to collapse the ceiling down on them.

The possibilities are staggering.

I've always disliked multiple meters or inhibitors stacked on abilities.

Either let me use the ability until resources are spent, or wait the cooldown.

Don't do both.

One change I would make in this hypothetical sequel is that I would remove cooldowns on

spells, just retain mana cost and casting speed.

This would free attention to the task at hand, rather than having to juggle multiple limiters.

One idea for a new mechanic to add to the game was a sort of "Ultimate" ability, which

wouldn't be able to be cast at all times, but would have to be built up to readiness

through specific actions or damage inflicted.

This could add a "table-turner" and a very powerful ability to one's build that could

be noticeably overpowered compared to normal abilities and spells.

There would be multiple "Ults" that could be unlocked in each class's various skill

branches.

Difficulty has been a sticking point in many people's eyes.

Some like the Normal, Nightmare, Hell and Inferno difficulty system where each playthrough

would unlock a new tier of punishment and reward, whilst others prefer the swappable

difficulty mid-playthrough.

I would go for the classic model, but beef each level up and make them have more personality.

Difficulty would affect loot drop quality, monster quantities, the tier of monsters fought,

and possibly even new ones that are only discoverable in the higher difficulties.

Every little bit helps on making each playthrough new and tinged with mystery.

One missing feature that was sorely missed from the last entry was the ability to play

offline with local characters or private games over direct connection.

I would split the main menu, with an online and the offline mode of the game, where you

could start private game lobbies which couldn't interact with the dedicated server-stored

games, and an online mode which stores all of your information server-side for cheat

and hack protection.

It may be wise to break servers up by region too, so as to prevent unchecked overseas farming

and trading to run amok.

Speaking of which, let's bring back trading, social features and higher player counts.

Make certain towns and cities into multiplayer hubs, where a dozen or two other players are

seamlessly matchmade into a town hub and can be seen running around.

Inhibit auction spam over chat, but allow people to meet, trade goods, or start a party

of up to four.

Once you leave hubs, you would be in your party's instance of the game again (similar

to Path of Exile).

As you wander the outlands, you may happen upon Public Events where a dozen or so players

may converge on a powerful enemy or scenario to be fought together.

This would stir up the normal grind and place another layer of fear on the player if they

knew there might be a roaming dracolich, a demon portal, or a vile horde attacking an

outpost that just around the bend, but would provide good loot and experience for all that

cooperate.

You could tag players as allies or rivals in your in-game social screen for later party

summons or duel requests down the road.

This would help with instancing too since you could match players with friends so wouldn't

always have to deal with randoms each time you play.

There could be a few hostile areas seamlessly built into the game which are considered PvP

zones, where players could hunt each other down, and perhaps arenas where duels between

two players or multiple parties could be fought, tournaments, or clan wars executed for leaderboard

bragging rights and trophies.

NPC companions would return, but to make them more useful and relevant in multiplayer, could

take part in a mercenary system which allowed you to forgo the extra help for a time in

exchange for other players renting them for a price.

Depending on how well you trained your companions up and equipped them, you would get bonus

income and rewards if they performed especially well.

This is similar to the pawn system in Dragon's Dogma.

Carryable containers that help expand your inventory for a cost would be a welcome addition.

Being able to send your companion back and forth to town to sell loot and/or refill potions

like in Torchlight would work, although imposing a fee on items delivered would help incentivize

the more frugal players to do their own bartering.

Potions would be consumable, but refillable at a price in town by an alchemist, or by

dunking the empty containers into certain shrines or wells, for example.

This would allow the acquisition of rarer and unique potions that could still be refilled

after use.

Interesting socketables would make a big and loud return, with interesting effects and

elemental damages or resistances to add, rather than the constant grind for the relevant attribute

you need.

Rare and unique socketables would vary things up too.

There should always be multiple ways to acquire good equipment.

Money shouldn't ever become worthless, and each unique item should have a truly original

and interesting aspect about it and would act as a keystone for a potential build.

Shops should offer low-end equipment all the way up to moderately viable equipment even

at the highest levels.

There could be rare, traveling traders out in the wild that you could happen across,

but would disappear after leaving their vicinity until the next time you meet one.

Rare traders could offer better equipment but only at very high prices or possibly even

trades for items of like rarity.

Crafting items could include variable materials that would give unique variations to set recipes.

For example, you could make a sword with steel for basic stats, but if you replaced that

material with mithril, it could have a higher crit chance and attack speed.

This is similar to the system used in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Loot rarity was divisive in Diablo 3.

Originally it was too scarce, then eventually you became spammed with loot.

Somewhere in the middle would be ideal, and loot could be slightly curated for your character

class, but not entirely.

Non-magic and lower rarity items should stop dropping in later Acts and difficulties entirely,

as those won't be at all helpful at that level and just take up space.

And finally, magic item identification.

This is an important feedback feature that adds value and mystery to new items you collect.

There should be some sort of time or resource expenditure to identify items, but it shouldn't

become rote after a few hours of play.

Identify scrolls work in the beginning, but eventually become so plentiful that they don't

add much to the excitement of getting unidentified items.

Perhaps a system which had tiers of identification, each becoming more challenging to perform.

There could be Sages that you might discover in the wilderness or locked up in a dungeon

that could identify items up to a specific tier for you.

That would retain the excitement of getting a powerful-looking new item, and would let

your mind run wild with what it could be until you identify it.

There are two schools of thought about the best Diablo world:

Diablo's progressively darker and more dangerous levels of a single deep dungeon.

And the large, sprawling worlds sprinkled with smaller side dungeons and medium-sized

story dungeons of Diablo II and III.

I think the best of both worlds could appease both.

Some acts could be wide, open spaces with forests, plains, mountains, tundra, et cetera.

While smaller caves, crypts and dungeons of one to three floors could offer some contrast.

Other acts could include massive 15 or 20-floor dungeons that would offer that sense of depth

perhaps lacking from recent entries.

Each terrain type should not only look different, but FEEL different as well.

Forest paths should be windy with lots of obstacles, deserts should be vast and open,

swamps would have clear line of sight, but would be striped with rivers and the like,

mountains should be treacherous with a lot of verticality options.

Each act and biome should offer unique opportunities, physics to play around with, and its own feel.

Whereas most of the maps generated by previous games are essentially the same pieces simply

shuffled in different orders and sequences each time, it would benefit replayability

greatly if the parts themselves would be different each time too.

Sometimes there would be a new lodge in the plains area, other times it might be a trader's

camp, or maybe a lair of something evil is there too.

In short, what you encounter and where you encounter it should be different each time

you play, and rare generations like legendary monster lairs or obscure NPCs would really

help incite people to replay again and again to see what they find.

Adventure Mode's randomized quests from Diablo III would return but in a more integrated

form.

You could find job board or NPCs in the various towns that would activate these randomized

quests, and they would have a different set of rules and objectives each time.

You could make challenges such as "not taking more damage than X else the rare potion delivery

is destroyed", or kill all raiders before they murder X villagers or more, you get the

idea.

Give out randomized scenarios, goals and objectives each time you do a random quest in order to

spice things up.

Dungeons could have randomly generated surprises, rushes and standoffs at unpredictable points.

Minibosses in the longer ones, and perhaps hidden and secret rooms that only keen observers

might find.

This is a summary of ideas and desires that myself and maybe a few others would like to

see in the new successor to the Action RPG crown.

It may be a pipe dream, but I do believe that these major steps forward in gameplay, interactivity,

replayability and immersion would breathe new life into a franchise which is not entirely

revolutionary, as it once was.

Will Blizzard move in some of these directions?

Perhaps some of the original creators, or maybe even new developers will take the torch

and reinvent the genre once again?

Whichever happens, I will be right there, ready and willing to get my hands on and enjoy

the Hell out of it.

What are your thoughts?

Have anything to add or suggest?

3 Easy Braided Hairstyles | Christmas Hairstyles | Braidsandstyles12 - Duration: 7:06.

Hi Guys! Today I'm going to show you these 3 pretty hairstyles.

For my first style, I'm going to do a braided updo.

So you want to take a section of hair a the front of your head, divide it in half,

and take a small section form the left side, and cross it over to the right side.

Take a small section of hair from the right side, and cross it over to the left side.

Again: Take a small section of hair from the left side, and this time, add a little bit of hair to this.

Then cross it over to the right side.

Repeat this again : Take a small section of hair from the right side.

Add some hair to this, and then cross it over to the left side.

Again, take a section of hair from the left side,

add some hair to this, and cross it over to the right side.

Once more: Take a small section of hair from the right side,

add some hair to this, and cross it over to the left side.

And this is a Fishtail braid, and if you don't know how to do a fishtail braid,

I'll leave a link up above here to a detailed tutorial for beginners.

I'm taking big sections, but if you want your braid to look more intricate, just take smaller sections.

And you just want to repeat these steps, until you reach the middle of your head.

So now, that I've reached the middle of my head, I'm not going to add in any more hair.

I'm just going to do a regular Fishtail braid.

Take a small section from either side, and cross it over to the opposite side, to create a fishtail braid.

Then I'm just going to tie this off.

But before I tie this off, I'm just going to go back and lightly tug on my braid, to make it nice, big and messy.

And on the opposite side, I decided to do a different braid, why not! :)

I'm going to do a Dutch Braid, so you want to divide your hair into 3 even pieces,

and bring the outer strands under the middle strand.

Then you're going to add a section of hair to the outer strand, and bring it under to the middle.

And add a section of hair to the top outer strand, and bring this under to the middle.

Once more: Add a section of hair to the bottom outer strand, and bring it under to the middle.

And add a section of hair to the top outer strand, and bring this under to the middle.

Again, we're going to braid the whole way down, until we reach the middle of our head.

If you don't know how to do a Dutch braid, I'll leave a link at the end of the video, and a link in the 'I' box,

so you can check that braiding tutorial out for beginners.

Once I reach the middle of my head, I'm just going to go back and gently pancake my braid,

to make it nice and big. Then i'm going to finish this braid off as well.

So this is what my braids now look like. I'm just placing a clip here to stop a bump forming,

before I cross my braids.

Then I'm going to pin my braids in place after I've crossed them.

Then with my remaining hair, I'm just going to create a little twist,

and I'm going to wrap this around into a bun, and pin it in place.

Then finally to complete this style, I'm going to wrap the two braids around the little bun,

and pin them in place, and that's my finished style.

I think this style would be great for everyday, for school, for work.

I just think it's a great, messy, braided style.

So now, I'm going to move onto my next style.

Now for my second hairstyle, I'm going to do a pretty half up half down style.

So you're going to take a section of hair at the crown area, and tie this into a half up ponytail.

Then with the front sections we're going to do a French twist.

Divide your hair in half, and cross the bottom strand over the top strand.

Then we're going to add a section of hair to the bottom strand, and cross it over the top.

Again, add a section of hair to the bottom strand, and cross it over the top.

And you just want to keep adding hair to the bottom strand, and cross it over the top,

until you reach your ear.

Then when you've added in all that hair, just continue to cross the bottom strand over the top strand.

Then you're going to cross it over the little bobbin,

and I'm just going to gently tug on mine here, just to loosen it up a bit.

Then I'm going to pin it in place, and repeat these steps on the opposite side.

And again with this braid, we're going to bring it back, and pin it over the bobbin to hide it.

Now with my ponytail : I'm going to divide this in half and cross the bottom strand over the top strand,

the whole way down my braid.

Then when I get to the end, I'm just going to gently tug on my braid, to make it a bit fuller.

Now I'm going to wrap the braid around two fingers, to create a loop, and pull the ends through.

Then I'm going to pin this in place, and that is my finished style.

Now onto my final style.

Again I'm going to take a section of hair at my crown area, and just tie this not a ponytail.

Then I'm going to take my front sections, and just cross them over my bobbin,

and clip them in place underneath my bobbin, to keep them nice and secure.

Now I'm going to separate some side sections, and I'm going to tie the middle section into a ponytail.

Now I'm going to repeat the technique which I did in my previous style with my ponytail.

I'm going to divide it in half, and just cross the bottom strand over the top strand,

the whole way down my braid.

Then I'm going to gently tug on it to make it nice and loose.

Then I'm going to wrap it around into a little bun, and pin it in place.

Now with our remaining side sections, we're just going to wrap these around this bun,

and just pin them in place.

And this is my finished hairstyle.

So I hope you like this tutorial guys, and if you did, as always don't forget to give it a thumbs up!

and Subscribe so you never miss any tutorials from me.

It stands as a symbol of Archaic importance and its construction and cultural heritage is remarkable.

It's said that thousands of years ago, Mylapore was a harbour near the sea and..

Kapaleeshwarar temple was built during the reign of pallavas in the 7th century.

Most importantly, It's said that Thirunjanasamanthar gave rebirth to Poombavai by his songs in this temple.

Then this temple was ruined due to natural calamities and foreign invasions.

And during Vijayanagar empire , the present structure of Kapaleeshwarar temple came to its existence.

It is one of the 36,488 temples, which is under the control of department of hindu religious endowments.

This construction is based on Dhravidian's architecture.

The east royal tower is 120 feet high, with 9 bowls and innumerable statues.

Inside this tower is the altar for the gods. There's a beautiful hall with a divine pool on the west.

This temple holds eternal veneration, new moon, full moon, kiruththika poojas and ..

BMW 5 series 2017 Review G30 540i M Sport (English Subtitles) - Duration: 8:13.

We're in Portugal

around Lisbon

to drive the new BMW 5 series

it's always a highly anticipated car

the new 5 series

everyone always looks forward to these

we do too

I know you do as well

we're here to drive

the 540i sDrive

and the 530d xDrive

the 540i has a more sporty look

that's the one we're driving now

and the 530d is more about luxury

Luxury Line

this one has an M sport pack

and it looks really cool

in white

with black accents and wheels

it looks really good

and let me start

with the looks

it's an evolution

but the longer you look at it

the more things you start seeing

which they have changed

and tightened up a bit

that beautiful Z-line

which runs from the Hofmeister kink

all the way to the front

and turns around towards the back again

the rear lights are sleeker

and run more towards the side

the headlights are new

it's a very good-looking car I think

and it tends more towards the 7 series

not only the exterior

but also the interior

it looks superb

the materials, the finish

the 10.25" touch screen

it's all so nice

let's start with this one

the 540i

340 HP

from the B58 inline-six

we really love that engine

we had it in the M240i, the 340i

we know what this engine

is capable of

and it's a lovely drivetrain as usual

with that ZF gearbox

'Steptronic'

never knew that's what it's called

it means that it really is

like we're used to from BMW

really smooth, quite fast

but, I do miss some connection with the car

it's a bit distant

a bit vague

a bit like you're disconnected from it

which also applies to the suspension

it's absurdly good

incredibly comfortable

you can drive over cobbled streets

and not notice anything

it's very silent inside

almost no tire noise

and all of those things mean

it's a very very good car

and a very comfortable one

but it's far from sporty

we drove on a really nice road earlier

and the body moves around

the suspension is not tight

the steering feel is pretty vague

but when you leave that road

and, like now, drive normally on a street

you think: well, this is really nice

I have to remind myself sometimes

that I'm driving a 5 series

and not a 7 series

that's how good it is

It seems like BMW wanted to increase

the gap that existed between

an M performance model

and an M sport pack

because that gap wasn't that big

if you'd order an M sport pack before

it meant you'd get firm suspension

and nice steering feel

to have a nice handling car

and it seems that's reserved

for the M Performance and M models now

BMW is also working on Autonomous driving

or Semi-autonomous

Level 2 autonomous

which means they're just driving assistants

it has lane keep assist and things like that

it's not an autopilot

and it really isn't

I have a button here

to activate lane keep assist

and radar guided cruise control on

at 100 kph

let go of the steering wheel for a sec

and it moves within the lane

it has trouble to keep in the middle

here's a corner

and it steers too much

it doesn't work great

but BMW are testing it

like Tesla are

and you get to sample it

because it's definitely not flawless

and if you use the lane keep assist

and use the blinkers

you have sort of an overtaking function

but it moves across the entire road

to the most left lane

so we'll call that the Autobahn function

So the new 5 series

it's another step up

and it's a very good car

it feels like a much larger car

and as I said

dynamically, that might be not ideal

but for those who use it everyday

and drive to and from work

or to family or whatever

for that purpose, it's so much better

so much quieter

more comfortable

faster

more efficient

prettier

you name it

we drove the new E-class recently

which had a lovely interior

but this is better still

the use of materials

is almost on 7 series level

and that feels amazing

so again this 7th generation 5 series

is in my opinion the benchmark

but there's so much to tell about this car

they have changed so much

I can't possibly tell everything in 1 video

we also drove the 530d xDrive

so of that car and this one

🎄 3 ways of Folding Christmas Tree Napkins 🎄 Vlogmas #24 [IDS&T] - Duration: 7:39.

Hello everyone and welcome back to I'm Doing Stuff and Things!

I'm Emma and today I'm sharing with you three ways of folding napkins into the shape of a Christmas Tree.

Number 1 !

Take a square napkin, mine is made of paper.

Rotate it 90 degrees so that the 'open' section is at the bottom.

Start folding triangles upwards, leaving a 1 or 2 cm gap between each one.

You should make 4 folds.

Next, flip the napkin over, so that what you just folded is facing down.

Grab one angle at the side of the triangle and fold it backwards.

Do the same with the other side.

Flip the napkin over once more and adjust the shape a little bit if needed.

Next, you're going to fold those triangles facing down, and tuck them under themselves.

For the smaller sections, it helps if you pinch the sides before folding.

This will create a straighter line.

You should do that 5 times.

And that's it!

Moving on to Number 2!

Take a square napkin and open it to make a rectangle.

On one side of the rectangle you're going to fold a triangle so that two of its angles are in the middle of both of the rectangle sides.

And create another triangle opposite to this one in the same way.

One of them should overlap the other, that's okay.

Next flip the napkin 90 degrees and fold the bottom square on top of what you just made.

Fold that square again towards the bottom, a little bit more than a half.

The next part is I think a bit tricky to explain, so watch closely.

Put your hand inside the fold bring it to the side.

This will create three folds.

On the top, you will have a triangle.

And at the bottom, underneath, a rectangle.

Let me zoom you in so that you can see it better.

Now do it to the other side as well. Start by folding the rectangle part,

to make it as wide as the one you just folded.

And next, fold the triangle.

Finally, flip your napkin over, and you're done!

Let's go for Number 3!

Take a square napkin and you will also need a pair of scissors.

Flip your taking 90 degrees and fold it in a triangle.

Next cut a curve on the napkin so that you only have one angle left.

The one left should be one of the two placed on the fold.

If you're not satisfied with your curve you can adjust it with your scissors.

After that, unfold your napkin twice, to get a half circle.

Next, grab one side and fold it over so that the part that was the bottom is now perpendicular to it.

To help you, you can use the faint mark of the middle fold as a guide.

Then, flip the napkin over and create another fold that should follow the angle of the first one and be right underneath.

Flip the napkin over one more time and do it again.

And you're done!

So that's it for my 3 ways of folding napkins into Christmas Trees, I hope it was useful.

If you celebrate Christmas I wish you a very happy Christmas eve!

Thank you for watching, I hope I made sense!

1st day on T - Duration: 2:37.

Hey!

So, uh sorry about the change of scenery, but I am staying with my mom today.

So.

Had to find a new way to film, so.

I'm also filming this on my webcam, so, quality might not be as good?

At least it's not like, vertical anymore.

Sorry about that :'). It's just, it took me a lot to film that video and then I...

I didn't even realize that it was in vertical.

So, uh, I didn't want to re-film it.

I hope you guys understand.

So, um, (shifting around).

So it ended up working out.

I was able to get it yetsterday.

So, around 8 pm east- er central time?

Um, I'm at my mom's.

Around 8 pm central time I was able to take it for the first time, yesterday.

So, now I guess I'm a little over - a little over like 13 hours on T?

Um, it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would.

So that was nice.

I'm really excited about this whole process.

Uh, I'm not going to upload it today, but I am going to do the whole, like, "One day

on Testosterone" video-thing.

I'm just gonna upload that like in a Whole Video at like, a month.

Thanks for being patient, sorry for not making a video yesterday.

You know, its the holidays, stuffs going on.

Thank you for being patient about that.

Yeah.

I was happy :) that I got a few comments on my video 'cause I didn't really publicize

the fact that I was making this channel because I didn't want to kinda- I didn't want to like

jinx things.

In case things didn't happen, in case I didn't get it yesterday, whatever.

Um, so, I think I'm slowly gonna start publicizing, at least to my friends, that this channel

exists.

I just don't wanna...

I don't know.

It's a lot, you know, to be like "hey family and friends come stare at me on this video,

'cause I already don't like looking at myself?

So, *click* yeah.

I know it's important to document these kinds of things, and I know that years from now

this will be something that I wanna, like, look back on.

And so I'm really, really pushing for myself to do it.

Um, yeah.

:) Alright, well, thanks :)

Top Upcoming Tech Of 2017 (Xbox Scorpion, iPhone 8, Samsung Galaxy S8, Nintendo Switch) - Duration: 6:23.

Hey guys welcome to Brainy and today I've got another pretty interesting video for you.

The Top upcoming tech of 2017.

The tech featured in this video are devices that are scheduled or rumored to be released

next year.

If you want to find out more about the devices featured in this video feel free to check

them out using the links provided in the description below.

So, let's get into the video.

First up we have the Nintendo Switch.

Formerly known as the Nintendo NX, The Nintendo Switch is a gaming device tablet with two

detachable controllers on either side.

These controllers can be used individually or attached to the screen.

The late Satoru Iwata first revealed his company was working on a new games console in March

2015.

Codenamed Nintendo NX (but reported as "Project NX" originally), the new console was said

to be "a brand-new concept".

The machine he was referring to is the Nintendo Switch, revealed on Thursday 20 October 2016,

although he sadly passed away in summer of 2015, so would not get to deliver that news

himself.

Nintendo's preview trailer pretty much revealed all, including the fact that the Nintendo

Switch will use cartridges, like its classic consoles and the Nintendo DS series.

The Nintendo Switch is scheduled to arrive in March 2017.

Next we have The next iPhone.

Whether it's called The iPhone 7S or iPhone 8 is currently unknown, but the fact that

we know very little hasn't stopped many from coming up with many theories about the

next device.

Rumors suggest that the 10th anniversary of the iPhone could see Apple ditch the traditional

Home button and add a curved display.

Apple's revolutionary new iPhone 8 will sport a plastic OLED display that "curves

all over," according to a report published in the Korea Herald and picked up by 9to5Mac.

The report corroborates the rumor that Apple will release three iPhone models next year,

a premium model with curved OLED display and two with flat LCDs.

Furthermore, Apple is hoping to incorporate new "sensing technology" in the curved

display to help differentiate the iPhone 8 from other OLED smartphones.

According to the Korea Herald, Apple has tapped Samsung Display to make an estimated 70 to

100 million plastic OLED units to use in the iPhone 8.

But that's just one rumor, another suggests that Apple has three new iPhones in the works

for 2017: the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus updates and a completely redesigned all-glass iPhone

8.

The 7s and 7s Plus will come in a brand new crimson color.

According to Japanese Apple-centric site Macotakara, the S-model phones will be available in red

in addition to the standard black, jet black, rose gold, gold, and silver.

These are actually very interesting and I could go through a bit more in terms of theories,

rumors and ideas but I'll leave it to you guys to check out the links provided below

for more info.

Moving on we have Microsoft's Project Scorpio.

Yeah, the name interested me too.

Microsoft is building a new video game machine that it claims will be "the most powerful

console ever."

Codenamed Project Scorpio, it will have a terrifying 6 teraflops of graphical processing

power, true 4K gaming, and will be compatible with existing Xbox One games and accessories.

If you didn't know, one teraflop is a unit of computing speed equal to one million million

(1012) floating-point operations per second.

Yeah, that's a lot.

And especially as we're talking about Microsoft here, they do have the capability to bring

this project into reality.

But I don't think the final product would be cheap given it's processing and gaming

capabilities.

Microsoft has said that Project Scorpio will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Next we have the Tesla Model 3.

According to Tesla, "Model 3 combines real world range, performance, safety and spaciousness

into a premium sedan that only Tesla can build.

Our most affordable car yet, Model 3 achieves 215 miles of range per charge while starting

at only $35,000 before incentives.

Model 3 is designed to attain the highest safety ratings in every category."

Tesla has said the Model 3 will start production in mid-2017, with the first deliveries expected

towards the end of the year.

Moving on we have the Samsung Galaxy S8.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 – and Galaxy S8 PLUS – will get a release date inthe first quarter

of 2017.

Industry sources have reported Samsung may make two versions of the Galaxy S8 next year,

but both will come with curved screens.SamMobile is reporting the models are codenamed Dream

and Dream 2.

One with a 5.1-inch screen and another with a 5.5-inch display.Similar suggestions have

been made more recently, along with claims that both will be curved and have an all-screen

design, with a virtual home button rather than a physical one.

Samsung is making a big push into VR with its Gear VR headset and one thing it really

needs to make the most of is that of the sharp screens on its phones.

Next up we have the Doppler Labs Here One.

The Doppler Labs Here One are truly wireless headphones, but unlike Apple's AirPods and

Samsung's Gear IconX, they have an active noise-cancellation function.

According to the official website : Here One was created by Doppler Labs, a company founded

in 2013 with the mission to make computing more immersive and more human.

Here One is the result of years of work and is Doppler's first widely-available product.

Through two wireless smart earbuds and a connected app, Here One redefines the way we engage

with sound through technology.

Doppler Labs has said preorders for the Here One will begin shipping in February.

Next is the Windows 10 Creators Update.

Microsoft will release a free update to Windows 10 in early 2017 that focuses on new creativity

and gaming experiences.

The Windows 10 Creators Update includes a new version of Paint for creating and sharing

3D objects.

There's also a built-in feature, called Beam, for broadcasting your gaming experiences to

the world.

It seems like a useful update but my question is just how much this new update will have

to update for it to work properly.

Finally we have the BeatsX headphones.

BeatsX are the brand's first headphones designed with the help of Apple engineers.

The Bluetooth sport headphones include Apple's new W1 chip, which the company claims is more

energy-efficient and significantly boosts battery life.

The BeatsX Bluetooth headphones are scheduled to arrive in Feburary of 2017.
