LIVERPOOL star Mohamed Salah could win this year's Ballon d'Or because the judges

may want some variety.

That's according to journalist and author Jimmy Burns.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated the award in recent years, with no other player

scooping the honour since Kaka in 2007.

Salah has been tipped to challenge the La Liga pair this year following a stunning debut

campaign at Anfield.

The Egyptian has scored 44 goals since his summer switch from Roma and his impressive

form has led to speculation that Real Madrid could be set to swoop.

This evening Salah will come face-to-face with the La Liga side, spearheaded by Ballon

d'Or rival Ronaldo, as the two heavyweights meet in the Champions League final.

But while the 25-year-old has been unstoppable for Jurgen Klopp's side this term, Burns

has dismissed the idea that he is on the same level as Messi and Ronaldo.

"I've got every respect for Mohamed Salah," he exclusively told Starsport.

"He's had a fantastic season and he's a great goalscorer and a potentially great

player.

"But how can you possibly compare him with either Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?

"Both Cristiano and Messi have got 10 years behind them of proving themselves at the highest

level."

It's been suggested that the winner of the Champions League will reflect who takes home

the Ballon d'Or.

And regardless of tonight's result, Burns has backed Salah to gatecrash the end of year

awards.

When asked if the result in Kiev will affect the eventual winner he added: "It will probably

be quite important.

"I haven't got an inner key to the secrets of how judges reach their decision or what's

in the balance.

"Is there an impact of commercial considerations and keeping fans happy in the sense of fair

play?

"Both Cristiano and Messi share five Ballons d'Or each.

"There's a sense of part of the universal fan club, there's a kind of duopoly that

would be nice to break now and again.

"There might be considerations to give it to a different person.

That's playing in Mohamed Salah's favour I think, there's no other one in contest."

Gordon good to have you here let's start with first of the quickness with which

the North Koreans and the very abrupt change in demeanor

last one even more nice says as the president said you know saying that they

would meet the United States anytime anyplace any format that's a real

indication that President Trump has got their number

you know what amuses me is to watch the so-called

Talking Heads and the the foolish absolutely foolish commentariat in

Washington DC of both parties now suddenly clucking about the president

wanting to counsel him again these are the same idiots who 24 hours previously

had been dissing the president because they thought the summit had failed and

those and before that by the way they were against the summit but once it

collapsed they wanted to criticize him for that I mean they really don't know

what they're talking about and we do understand one thing the airwaves are

filled when they're from the floors of the Senate and the house are from the

commentariat and all of the studios and various networks with abject idiocy well

this must drive the president nuts to have to put up with this I was there

he's proud of probably pretty happy right now because he's proved

but he's happy but he's got to be sick to it yeah got to have to listen to

fools on parade constantly yeah you know the veterans American diplomat Stapleton

Roy former ambassador to China ambassador day they don't Indonesia he

now works for Kissinger and and he has said something which I know Kissinger

yeah you know he said something which really resonates and that is he once

said look no one has ever figured out how to deal effectively with the North

Koreans well that was true until yesterday when we had the president as

you said the master class in dealing with North Koreans and they basically

just pushed them around got them to actually sort of cry uncle you know we

haven't had a president before who at least not in recent times who said what

he meant meant what he said this president he is beguiling because he

does exactly that I end his playing a game as he said everyone plays games if

he's going to play a game he's going to play it three moves ahead of whoever his

opponent is whether it is Kim jong-un or whether it's President Xi and the fools

in Washington DC haven't really caught up to that reality you know and that's

certainly true you know we now have a pathway to peace we may not get there

but nobody thought we would have this summit nobody thought we would see the

North Korean we still may not as the president is that his conditions are

absolute they're non-negotiable and he is moving ahead yeah the North Koreans

really need things from Trump and we needs Trump to give them sanctions

relief you know before this we had second President Trump to give the North

Korean sanctions the North Koreans need sanctions relief from President Trump

and ending at all the dependency there are associated correctly because I don't

think we need any of it no but what has happened is Trump created the conditions

where the North Koreans had to speak to him there was the sanctions relief there

were the threats to attack North Korean new kand missile facilities and you know

Kim is very much that understands that his continued survival depends on the US

but do we know that Gordon oh yeah I think we are still dealing with a

considerable vague vaporous ethereal image of who this man is it was not it

was not Kim who spoke in response to the president canceling those that summit it

was a gentler wiser representative of the regime taking great pains to be

somewhat deferential to be to placate a man who said he was very clearly

disappointed in the hostility and the anger that the regime had expressed and

I got the faint the sense that that that response was what it took for the

president who to embrace moving forward yeah and this is important because we've

never seen the North Koreans do this before you know we've seen them huff and

puff and and all of a sudden you know within the space of minutes they take a

very different position they show that they've got a much weaker hand and

that's because the president withdrew from the summit and forced them into a

position for which for them was untenable I think we know how weak their

hand is though we have known throughout previous presidents whether Clinton or

bush or Obama they just didn't have the intelligence and the and and the

character to negotiate in in support of a goal and this president has that plus

I think it says where I have to say to you give us your forecast will there be

a summit or will there not though will she and will she preserve the momentum

that's been established here okay we will have a summit it may not be June 12

but it could be for instance in July or August because the North Koreans well we

worry that we've waited 30 years I think the president has considerable leeway

here yeah but I think it will occur be G and C Jinping I think is going to have a

he's probably going to be unnerved by president Trump will probably end up

with a decent trade deal I hope I'm a little bit concerned about the ZTE

arrangement but or any reason for the ZTE deal that you can see I mean think

about it too communist country I don't know you can

it wishes with all of those workers it is a command and control economy why

should the president worry about 88,000 workers Chinese workers no he shouldn't

but I think what's going on here it's just a guess blue I think what he's

Semiconductors the Chinese are holding up both of those deals I suspect that

that's what's in the back of the president's mind it's certainly not

Chinese jobs it's not even the 1.3 billion dollar fine or changing the

management team which really to me is substituting one set of criminals for

another I think it's really the question of getting Chinese approval on all of

it's like when you're feeling the speed because it's so well that you did like

you don't necessarily feel the speed you're going at right now I'm doing

Until now this channel was only English-speaking, but because it's gonna be easier for me I've decided to change it to my native language T v T

So if you love drawing (just like me) or you just like watching someone draw

I want to invite you for my 30 second challlenge!

But because I don't want it to be too boring and because I don't want to keep this video this short

I decided to split this challenge in three sections

► first - draw something in 5 minutes, then - in 1 minute and the last one - in 30 seconds!

So, let's get started!

Okay, so my tablet is prepared, I am prepared too (I hope), I'm turning my timer on

I've decided to draw my original character, it's gonna be easier for me because I drew

Coordinated Motion Planning: The Video - Duration: 9:49.

Simultaneously steering a large number of agents to goal positions is a common challenge,

whether you are:

an ant army trying to defend your home,

just trying to get home after work,

a densely-packed warehouse of robots delivering products to be packed and shipped,

or a marching band demonstrating your skills.

There are many approaches, ranging from fully distributed solutions

to fully centralized methods such as warehouse robotics, air-traffic control,

and packet routing

In this work we present a number of breakthroughs for coordinated motion planning.

Our goal is to reconfigure a swarm of labeled convex objects

by a combination of parallel, continuous, collision-free translations

into a given target arrangement.

Problems of this type

can be traced back to the classic work

of Schwartz and Sharir,

who gave a method for deciding the existence of a coordinated motion

for a set of disks between obstacles.

Their approach is polynomial in the complexity of the obstacles,

but exponential in the number of disks.

Previous work has largely focused on pipelined sequential schedules, in which only robots

on the perimeter move with objectives such as

minimizing the number of moves.

This differs from our objective, which is to minimize the overall time by exploiting

parallel motion of many robots.

A natural lower bound for the necessary time is given by

the maximum distance from a start

to a target location.

The ratio between the achieved overall time

and this maximum distance is called the STRETCH of a schedule.

When is it possible to limit the stretch and achieve good schedules?

That is the focus of this work.

First of all, finding a reconfiguration plan with minimal execution

is NP-hard, even for a grid arrangement without any stationary obstacles.

Here are various parts of the construction.

Before we start with our algorithm, let us take a closer look at possible

ways of rearranging robots.

Because robot collisions are not allowed, direct swaps of adjacent robots are impossible.

However, we can rearrange whole cycles of robots by moving them simultaneously.

Combining several cyclic one-step moves within a six-pack substructure, we can achieve a

swap of neighboring robots.

These swaps can be performed in parallel for disjoint six-packs.

There is a total of twelve different classes of six-packs, so

a set of disjoint swap operations can be realized by a constant

number of parallel rotation steps.

Now let's consider

a starting configuration that we want to rearrange into

this target arrangement.

Making use of the parallel local swaps, we can apply

the parallel rotatesort algorithm of Marberg and Gafni from 1988.

Rotate sort achieves a runtime that is linear in the size of the perimeter of

the bounding box.

However, this does not achieve constant stretch if the maximum distance

is small compared to the perimeter.

So we need more refined algorithmic ideas.

An idea is to subdivide the grid arrangement

into d-sized "tiles".

Then we proceed in two phases: In Phase I

we move each robot to the tile containing its target position.

That is the tricky part.

In Phase II,

we use rotatesort in parallel on all tiles to reach those final

positions in O(d).

Moving the robots to their respective tiles in Phase I proceeds

in four steps.

First, we compute a flow that represents the number of robots moving between tiles.

Note that the flow graph has a limited degree of eight due to the maximum

travel distance of d.

Second, these flows are preprocessed to remove intersecting and bidirectional edges.

In a third step, the cleaned up flow is decomposed into a number of simpler pieces

which are then realized by parallel sets of cyclic moves in the

fourth and final step of Phase I.

As the first step, we take stock

of robots switching tiles.

As no robots get created or destroyed, the result

is a cyclic flow.

There are configurations resulting in flows with crossing edges,

as illustrated here.

In the second step,

the flow is simplified.

If there are crossing edges in the flow graph

we use local modifications to uncross them.

Bidirectional edges

are removed in a similar manner.

For the third step

consider a cyclic flow after preprocessing.

We decompose it into a set of cycles with a flow value of one.

We remove self-intersections and partition

the resulting set of cycles into clockwise and counterclockwise ordered cycles that are

processed separately.

We identify the union of the areas bounded by all cycles and remove the outer boundary

component of the covered area.

We repeat this peeling process until the entire flow graph is removed.

This yields

a tree-like structure

of nested cycles,

allowing us to compute a partitioning of the entire flow graph into subflows of value O(d).

In the fourth and final step of Phase I,

we realize a single subflow

by computing a crossing-free matching between incoming and outgoing robots for each tile.

By applying this technique iteratively, we realize a sequence of subflows as cyclic permutations of robots.

In the end, all robots are in their target tiles, after a total of O(d) steps.

Now we can proceed to Phase II:

In another O(d) moves, rotatesort delivers all robots to their target locations,

and we have achieved constant stretch.

The preceding description applies to robots at given grid positions.

What happens in more general configurations?

That depends on the proximity of robots.

If the robots are not too densely packed

here is what we can do.

There will be at most one robot per cell in an appropriate grid.

We move them

to appropriate grid positions, then apply the grid algorithm,

then move them to their target positions.

This achieves constant stretch.

For very densely packed disks

that cannot be well separated, no method can achieve

a stretch factor better than O of N to the 1/4th.

The proof considers the area of Voronoi cells during the

reconfiguration, showing that they must grow by a certain amount.

On the positive side, we establish a

stretch factor of O of square root of N even in this case.

The intricate difficulties of computing precise optimal solutions are demonstrated by the

seemingly simple case of just two disks, which is shown to be excruciatingly

difficult to solve to optimality.

These parallel motion schedules can be applied to real robots.

Here you see a number of examples.

Finally, here is a simulation of a bigger instance.
