Composing Dark Star Thresh's Music | Behind the Scenes - League of Legends - Duration: 5:30.

(Thresh) Welcome to the event horizon.

We were approached by the skins team at Riot Games to provide music for the legendary Thresh skin, Dark Star Thresh.

When I first began thinking about the music for Thresh,

I wanted to portray the vastness, borderless aspect of the universe around him.

But I also wanted almost an aura of nobility.

I wanted the music to be timeless.

How do we take this organic, immortal concept and turn it into music?

And I happen to play something that's a little unique…

…it's a hybrid between a viola da gamba and a guitar called "Guitarviol".

I was really fighting for a melody

that would embody him.

It took me a while to figure out what those six notes would be.

And I wanted them to have a very lyrical quality to them.

I also wanted them to portray that sense of gloom and doom.

Create those intervals that slowly but surely expand.

It's like a black hole getting bigger, just like his thematic.

That concise musical statement has all the DNA for the music of Thresh.

"A star can scream, isn't that strange?"

One of the concepts of Dark Star Thresh is that he's here to devour your souls, suck them in with his singularity.

One way of using very organic techniques to do that would be maybe using our own breath.

One, two.

I had a bunch of fellow Rioters come into the foley room and record all these inhalings and exhalings.

And turned that into a musical statement.

Cool, we got it. Thank you guys.

No singing? We don't sing?

No. You do not sing. You do not sing.

You're gonna be the sound of a soul being devoured.

"A means to the end."

When walking into a foley session like this,

to be fairly honest, I was not sure what we were gonna get,

but for this, I wanted my fellow Rioters creative input and we ended up with a bunch of material.

So, just a quick word of caution, dry ice is extremely cold.

So never put your bare hands on it.

Some really fascinating things.

Some things that surprised even myself.

Holy shit!

That was really part of the fun.

Trying new things.

Go beyond what we had imagined.

And just embraced what we got.

Now I have to turn this into music. We'll see how that goes.

After the initial discussion with the producers.

I get feedback from my little creative flame.

And one of the things that the creative flame threw at me immediately was like

you want to use a string quartet.

It's exactly what Thresh is all about.

I've always adored the sound of Warner Bros. for smaller string sections.

It makes it sound larger than life and it's just a beautiful place.

We have a number of really truly fantastic collaborators.

Together we're able to bring the best possible scenario for recording live musicians.

I personally love live music.

I embrace the opportunity of recording those guys and have musicians bring in their expertise,

their beautiful sound. They're the ones who take beyond. They're the ones who get it live.

It's really like… almost like witnessing a birth.

They give me back something that is bigger than what I gave them.

And that's an absolutely incredible feeling.

So one thing i've attempted to do was to draw our players into that feeling of hopelessness.

I also wanted to portray the jubilance that Thresh is experiencing through his quest,

and just the sheer power of his abilities.

So I'm hoping that when the player is listening to that piece of music,

they feel this excitement, but they also know that this excitement is directed at them,

and not in a good way.

2016 has been one heck of the year here at Xbox.

I always enjoy taking a moment at the end of the year to reflect.

It's incredible how the great new features, games, and hardware

have changed the Xbox landscape for the better in just one year.

So, we're going to switch it up a little on this week,

and bring you a recap of the top Xbox moments from 2016.

But first, let's check out a few headlines that hit this week.

>> This past year we started seeing Hollywood and big money get behind

adapting popular video game franchises into movies.

One of the biggest and

perhaps best ones yet is Assassin's Creed starring Michael Fassbinder.

I recently had the privilege of heading out to New York for

the premiere and got a chance to sit down with the cast and crew to

discuss the movie, its ties to the game, and how game studios and movie

studios come together to tackle the beloved Assassin's Creed franchise.

Take a look.

>> Tell us about your introduction to the Assassin's Creed franchise.

What led you to it?

>> I was just so fascinated by this world.

I thought they developed such a sophisticated, morally ambiguous,

intriguing world.

[MUSIC]

>> Where am I?

>> At 6PM yesterday evening, you were executed and pronounced dead.

[MUSIC]

>> You're very true to the physical nature of the character

in the video game.

That must have been a challenge.

>> It was just a very important thing for me.

I knew that the cool sort of poses of the video game, and

I knew that that was a world that was beloved to the fans.

And I wanted to respect that.

And also it looks great.

So, that was something that definitely led me to play the game

to understand that.

>> What'd you think of that?

What's it like being in the universe as a player versus as an actor?

>> You know, it's fascinating how far it's come.

How they sort of create this universe with such

precision and detail.

And then a certain element of frustration,

because I kept getting killed at the same point.

>> What do you want from me?

>> Your past.

Welcome to the Spanish Inquisition.

>> We didn't want it to compete with any of the games.

And I don't think we wanted to make an appropriation of the game.

Especially recreating a character like Ezio.

We would have gotten absolutely murdered for it.

So I think it was about how do you kind of find

something that has the spirit of what a Assassin's Creed universe is,

but at the same time just plays as an independent film.

>> One of the great themes about this movie is,

you know, what are you?

Are you a temperor or are you assassin?

What's your guts feeling about how life should be run?

>> So, are you a temperor or assassin?

>> I'm an assassin.

>> [LAUGH]

>> Now, let's jump into the top Xbox moments of 2016.

I couldn't bare to rank them so we're going to let fate decide.

Aah, of course.

First, we have the launch of the Xbox One S.

One, I'm a huge fan of the design, and yes,

I'm partial to using the base to stand my Xbox One S upright.

And if you follow me on Twitter,

you know how much that I love that the power supply is built inside.

Of course, the two big features here are the 4K video playback

on both Blu-Ray and via apps like Netflix and Hulu.

And then there's the high dynamic range support both for videos and

games, which bring a whole range of incredible detail to the table.

As my engineer friends are fond of pointing out, HDR is not about more

pixels but better pixels, who showcase intense detail.

This is especially noticeable in the deep blacks and

white highlights of an image.

All right, moving on, let's see what we have next.

We have the Xbox Insider Program,

formally known as the Xbox Preview Program.

Within the Xbox Insider Program is the Xbox Insider Hub app, a central

location that makes it super easy to decide which features you want to

preview before before they are released to the general public.

Rather than having to try everything,

you can choose to test out a specific feature like new apps,

game betas, or of course new platform features on the dashboard.

Next up, we have looking for groups and clubs.

The recent holiday update was all about making it easy to connect with

fellow gamers.

I'm a huge proponent of looking for group, and would suggest that

anyone looking for new people to play with give this feature a try.

One, you can easily look at the game hub for

your favorite titles to find active looking for group sessions.

Good LFG posts will be super detailed so you can be confident

that you're joining a team of like minded gamers.

For example, if you want competitive players but

no trash talking, just look for those tags.

And of course, you can build your own LFG posts and hit prebuilt tags,

popular community tags, and your own custom tags to make sure you connect

exactly with the people you want.

And then, there's clubs, which allow you celebrate, well,

just about anything and offer a more permanent place to come together

with Xbox Live community members to celebrate,

game together, share great content and more.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume that right about now

the Star Wars club is picking up steam on Xbox Live.

Dakota Access Pipeline Threat Is Far From Over - America's Lawyer - Duration: 7:40.

Despite a hard fought victory and the halting of the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline

activists at Standing Rock, the reservation, are staying put.

Many protesters fear the victory's only temporary and it's only a matter of time before the

company starts building that pipeline again.

They resume construction, nothing changes, that's what they're afraid of.

Joining me now to discuss whether this is a legal possibility is co-host and creator

of The Young Turks Media Network and attorney Cenk Uygur and all-around very sharp guy.

Cenk, how are you?

Uygur: Great.

Thank you Pap.

I appreciate it.

Papantonio: I want to ask you by, I want to ask you this.

What factors do you think made the Obama Administration and the Army Corp of Engineers cave into the

demands of these protesters to halt this pipeline?

What happened?

Uygur: I think there are three factors.

One and most importantly was the protesters themselves.

They just would not relent.

Whether it was brutally freezing temperatures, assault by the police there, basically acting

as the Pinkertons of the modern day era, they just would not give in.

That's why it's called Standing Rock.

They stood like a rock there.

Second of all, the media.

We went to go cover it.

Now of course mainstream media didn't.

Corporate media was no where near it.

For example Young Turks sent Jordan Chariton our reporter there, five different times.

Videos that we made were spread all across social media, seen tens of millions of times.

Then celebrities started to go up there.

We recorded all of that.

That got put in all the papers.

Then the third angle was the Veterans for Standing Rock.

These guys, led by Wes Clark and Michael Wood, organized initially 2,000 and what wound up

being 4,000 veterans to go act as, as they put it, human shields for the Water Protectors.

When the veterans were going to show up, all of a sudden, after all of the media attention

and the protesters who would not yield, and the veterans come, the Obama Administration

decided you know what, maybe we should do something about this.

Then there's the issue of oil pipelines all across the country.

Then the third part of it is civil disobedience I believe at large.

First on the Dakota Access Pipeline, unfortunately this fight is nowhere near over because we

found out today that Rick Perry is going to be named the Secretary of Energy.

Rick Perry is on the board of Energy Transfer Partners who owns the Dakota Access Pipeline.

The corruption is so brazen.

I've never seen anything like this.

Trump, who owns shares in the Dakota Access Pipeline puts a guy who's on the board of

the Energy Transfer Partners.

They're likely to want to continue to profit off of it.

The veterans said hey- Papantonio: Yeah.

Now there's going to be next time 10, 000 of us.

Papantonio: After the decision to halt the pipeline was made, public Energy Transfer

partners and Sunoco Logistics responded.

I mean they came out and said, this is the quote, that they fully expect to complete

construction of the pipeline without any additional re-routing.

Nothing this administration has done changes that in any way.

I mean, have you ever seen such arrogance by a corporation that says we really don't

care what the government says, we really don't care what the President says, we're going

to do this anyway?

Isn't that the attitude that this rogue company has had from the very beginning of this project?

Uygur: That's exactly right.

I'm asking the officials and the police in North Dakota to turn around.

What I mean by that is the Army Corp of Engineers has very clearly stated that they do not have

permission to drill and that they're going to do an environmental impact statement which

could take months and sometimes even years to conclude.

If the company is saying as they are now, that we are 100% going to drill, then the

police shouldn't be facing the protesters.

They should be facing towards the company.

Papantonio: Cenk, what I find incredible is that this company has this attitude that they're

bulletproof, that nothing can happen to them.

They can do what they want to do.

Had it not been for what you did with social media and what other people did in social

media, corporate media would not even shown up for this.

Did I get that right?

Am I overstating it?

Uygur: No.

I honestly think that's absolutely right.

We had one video that did over 7 million views on Facebook.

It's been spread all throughout the internet.

People know about Standing Rock now.

They get confused as to where they heard it from because they did not hear it on CNN or

any of the other corporate media.

They only show up at the very end.

They're like oh, veterans are coming.

Then they'll come in and buy up all the hotel rooms and pay exorbitant rates.

With our ragtag crew of real reporters, investigative reporters, we cover that story from beginning

to end.

Now it's a national story.

I just feel like there's so much more we can do.

Today a spill happened, where we found out about a spill that happened in North Dakota

of 176,000 gallons of oil.

What happened?

I thought they said it couldn't spill.

We'll send reporters there.

Wherever there's news like that the corporate media isn't going to show up.

No problem.

The violence, was it as bad as we think it was when we saw some of that footage where

the violence against these protesters was first of all unnecessary and way in excess

I'm entitled to federal land where the Army Corp of Engineers actually has authority.

They feel like they own the government.

Your burial land, your water, the Missouri River where they get water not just for the

Reservation but for so much of that area in North Dakota, they feel like that's just mine

to take.

In Iowa there's all these farmers that are fighting back, conservative, rural, farmers

because they do eminent domain.

They say the government's going to back me up.

You're going to give me your property.

In another pipeline in, down in Texas, the judge had to increase the amount that that

particular pipeline was paying to the landowners, by 30 times because they felt like what's

the difference?

I'm just going to take your land and not even pay you for it an anywhere near fair market

value.

The violence that they did against those protesters was part of that same entitlement.

I'm entitled to have you not exercise your rights and get off of your land so that I

could build this pipeline.

They did the tear gas canisters.

They did the water cannons in freezing temperatures.

One woman nearly lost her arm.

On The Young Turks we covered another woman who was blinded in one eye.

This is way disproportionate to what should have happened.

And I, literally, I was laying in bed

and I watched every episode back-to-back

HUD, lane assisst, distance monitoring with iPhone apps. - Duration: 4:57.

For those of you who don't know what is HUD - it's head-up display

and it's getting pretty popular in new cars.

Basically it's a display that you have right in your sight.

And you don't need to move your head to look at it.

And it's a pretty convenient thing if you have your speedometer over there or

you navigation guidance or something like that.

And as I said it's installed in modern cars - in Audi, in BMW.

But you can also do it yourself with a simple iPhone app and phone holder in your car.

Here's my phone and all you need is an app.

Right now I'm OK, I'm not moving at all.

And this basically just a speedometer right now. You can switch it to the

HUD mode by pressing over here and as you can see everything is flipped.

It's in mirror mode.

Second thing that you need is a phone holder.

But one important thing - it has to be able to hold your phone flat.

So you can see the reflection of your phones screen in the windshield.

It's installed like this

I don't have much space over here for my phone and my holder because the windshield is pretty close to the dashboard.

But over here it will work just as well.

And right now it's too bright to see anything!

When I look at the reflection of my phone in the windscreen

I can see that I'm moving at 0km/h.

OK, so previously I showed you the MiSpeed app.

And right now I want to show you other app.

It's ADriving (Augmented Driving).

It's augmented reality driving.

Let me just set it up and see if it works.

Now I'm driving, I have the phone installed over here.

And as you can see it detects lines.

And if I get closer to the guy in front of me it should warn me that I'm not keeping my distance.

So I have this yellow square. It's telling me that I'm too close to the car in front of me.

and right now I'm 17m, 16m...

OK, let's make some distance.

OK, it's yellow.

AS you can see my lane is in blue and the line is green.

Or yellow if I get too close to it.

Ah, OK. The..

The line gets red, yellow, green now that I'm safe.

And if I get far enough the line disappears.

OK, if I get too close to the line or cross it...

There's a notification that reminds me to keep my lane.

I'm back at the office and as you can see I got safety score 58%.

That's pretty low I guess but I was just trying the system, checking how it works and

I got lots of warnings for crossing the line and not keeping my distance

I also checked the "record" button. I think that it saved

the video to my camera roll. Let's just check it.

Tips, Tricks and Ideas with Nether Portals in Minecraft. - Duration: 7:36.

Hello you lovely minecraft person, my name is Ceave and welcome back.

Today we are going to take a closer look on the portals to the underworld themselves,

nether portals.

Nether portals are pretty unique in minecraft for several reasons, they are the only portals

in the vanilla game, they have a pretty unique texture and they can be used for fast travelling.

So are you ready?

Let's do this!

Our first nether portal design is actually not one portal but several.

This portal is in the center of a small mountain.

The portals here aren't all on the same layer so that the portal get's a little

bit of additional depth and looks like it's part of the hill.

Using several nether portals to create an enormous one is something which looks pretty

cool usually even if all the portals are on the same layer.

This design is actually really easy to build in a survival world as long as you have a

few stacks obsidian and a hill.

The next nether portal is special for a very simple reason.

It got an on/off switch.

If our nameless adventurer pushes this little button the portal enlightens itself and the

path to the underworld is open.

But he hits the button once again and waits for a moment, the portal magically closes

itself again during an explosion.

So how does this work?

The redstone behind this is super simple.

The button input leads to a flip-flop and the flip-flop output to the two dispensers.

One carries TNT for closing the portal, the other one flint and steel for opening it.

The redstone signal gets inverted by a redstone torch for one of the dispensers, so that the

button toggles them.

The first button press activates the flint and steel dispenser the next one the tnt dispenser

then the flint and steel again and so on.

Sadly this design is pretty useless in a survival world as you need tons of TNT and a lot of

safety measures for it to work.

So I googled if there are other designs for togglable nether portals and as it turns out

there are less explosive ones.

I found this design made by a youtuber named skippy 6 gaming.

It uses water instead of TNT to toggle the nether portal which is way less cinematic

but definitely way more useful.

If you want to build this design you can find the link to skippy 6's tutorial in the description.

Okay so let's take a look on a less technical but way more evil looking nether portal design.

This portal in the maw of a dangerous dragon.

Building a nether portal in the mouth of a dragon is almost a minecraft tradition by

now, and this here is my solution.

If you don't like dragons for some weird reasons building a portal in the mouth of

a huge skull looks pretty awesome as well.

The next design features two portal ideas in one.

The portal waits at the end of this corridor, and if we take a close look we can see that

this portal actually shows the destination to which our nameless adventurer travels if

he walks through.

Creating an illusion like this is actually pretty easy, all you need to do is to build

a small nether area directly behind your portal.

But this idea works the other way around as well.

If we enlighten the portal once again we can see the crazy corridor through it.

This creates the illusion that walking through the portal actually breaks the rules of time

and space and teleports us to an evil place in another dimension.

Or at least I like to think about it this way.

And now let's take a look on a design which is probably only useful for adventure maps,

but pretty cinematic.

Building something like this is actually super easy!

The torches are dispensers carrying flint and steel and the fireworks are dispensers

which shoot fire-charges into the air.

They get triggered once our nameless adventurer walks on top of pressure plates and then the

signal simply leads to the portal, and all the dispensers.

This design is meant to show of two small tricks to improve your nether portal design.

The first idea is that you can build small statues or pixel art behind your portal and

it will shine through it once it is enlightened, making it far more interesting to look at.

The second idea is that by building a frame around your portal you can change the visible

shape.

Nether portals can't be circles but by building a circle shaped form in front of the portal

it suddenly looks circular.

Nether portals are excellent for fast traveling.

A nether portal in the overworld will create a new portal if there is no other portal in

an area of 128 blocks.

If there is a portal however the new overworld portal will link itself with the already existing

underworld portal which will then still be linked to the first portal created.

While this is usually not especially useful something else is.

Each block you travel in the nether counts for 8 blocks in the overworld.

So if our cubistic friend walks for 125 blocks in the nether and then goes through a portal

he will find himself 1000 blocks away of his starting position in the overworld.

And now let's take a look on an incredible complicated way to trigge, ahem ignite a nether

portal.

One obsidian pillar can be part of more than one nether portal.

For this design we linked four pillars of obsidian together to create four nether portals.

There is a beacon hidden in the center of the portal sending a huge light ray into the

sky.

I really like this design as it is really simple and probably looks pretty cool as an

overworld portal somewhere.

Here we have a small corridor, and no nether portal at first glance.

All that is in this room is a small ender-chest and a lot of quartz.

But actually there is a portal hidden in this room.

If our nameless adventurer drops one block of TNT down onto the floor here the portal

suddenly appears.

This works as often as he wants as long as he has enough TNT.

If he throws any other block onto the ground the block will disappear but the portal won't

open.

So how does this work?

There are hoppers hidden below the slabs which pick up the dropped items.

All these hoppers lead into one final hopper who is filled with45 TNT blocks and wired

to a comparator.

If one more block of TNT enters the hopper the signal strength increases by one, which

activates a repeater and sends a signal to the pistons.

There is a redstone signal running into the hopper which usually disables him, but as

long as the repeater is active this signal is turned off.

And that's it for today and for nether portals.

A Letter To 2016 | Kate's Adventures - Duration: 1:40.

Dear 2016, You were my first full year on YouTube.

When we started out together,

barely anybody knew that I had a YouTube channel.

And most of the people who knew

weren't interested enough to ask what that meant.

My channel hit some cool milestones this year

and I started out with a promise to promote and support smaller creators.

It might not have changed the world yet,

but it's at least changed my viewing habits.

When I uploaded my 100th video, I was stunned.

Had I really made that many videos already?

Apparently so!

When all of my videos were accurately closed captioned,

I was really happy.

When selected videos were translated,

I was amazed by the possibilities.

I felt invisible to YouTube at the beginning of the year.

How time changes!

In February, I attended my first Creator Day.

Going to that Creator Day set off a chain of events

that saw me go from sitting in the audience,

to being trusted to give a short presentation

at similar events in November.

Just thinking about that gives me chills!

Goodbye, 2016. I'll remember these moments fondly.

I don't know what 2017 will bring,

but I'm ready to find out.

i am a really big fan of all Power

Rangers Megazords and I've done reviews

on pretty much all of the dyno

supercharged swords and Megazords if you

want to check out that playlist and in

this video and this one is supposed to

be the dragon as you can see there he's

got a hand like coming out of but

episode that's not exactly the best

quality but it does look pretty cool he

is this set is very similar to the other

Megazord off for Dino steel there and

just feel the already with you

this was supposed to be some type of

like a truck or some type of a vehicle

you could actually put one of your power

rangers in their habit drive but with

those tiny little wheels i mean it looks

more like a mario kart racing

and then finally we have the dog which I

mean they didn't do all that much

coloring on him that you on a little bit

of green blue and yellow and that's

pretty much it rest of him is plain grey

and here is says command your Megazord

with any 5-inch figure so NER 5-inch

power rangers figure will fit in his

chest

even the bad guys and then here is some

of the different options you could have

with the Megazords you could not connect

that helicopter and our bike i got the

helicopter a review on that one here are

pretty much all of the Power Rangers

you want to put one of the Power Rangers

figure here which fits right into that

chest piece over there and then are you

have an elephant head here which you

take and put right on to the bonus

figure there you bend his legs and he

fits right into the megazord here

snap right into his chest head back down

and that's how he fits in there and then

you've got two axes that come with him

which fit right into his here and there

is what he looks like all put together
