[ INTRO ]

It's one thing to put your heart and soul into your art.

But it's another thing entirely to put someone else's heart into your art.

Or... any other body part.

And yet, that's what a lot of people have done, for thousands of years.

Here are 3 of the ways humans have used bits of ourselves to make things a little prettier.

They'll make you think twice about what exactly went into that art you're admiring.

Earwax, scientifically known as cerumen, is a waxy secretion made up of dead skin cells

and different oils produced in the outer ear canal.

It serves as a line of defense, protecting against water damage, trauma, and foreign

invaders.

So who would have thought it'd help artists make illuminated manuscripts?

Despite what the name implies, illuminated manuscripts aren't shining out light.

They get their name from gold or silver leaf, which is paired with vibrant painted pictures

on handwritten pages.

This art form hit its peak in medieval times, and was practiced both by European and Islamic

societies.

Once Gutenberg's printing press spread across the world, though, it dwindled.

Until the 15th century, manuscripts were decorated with a substance called glair.

To make it, you had to beat watered-down egg whites into a froth, and then let that stand

until it became a liquid.

Then, you'd mix in your pigment of choice, and froth it up again.

After that settles, you're good to paint.

Without any other ingredients, bubbles in the froth would leave tiny holes in the surface

of your paintings.

So that's where earwax comes in.

The oils in the wax prevent the water molecules from bonding with each other in bubble-forming

ways, which means nice, smooth paint.

Even when glair went out of style, earwax was also sometimes added to its successor,

gum arabic.

And the only reason we know it was used at all is advice books!

Or at least, the mid-14th century treatise called De arte illuminandi.

Thanks, anonymous author.

You're gross, but clever!

But speaking of gross, it turns out human urine has been used for thousands of years,

both to make pigments, and to keep the colors in cloth from fading.

It was used with a little plant called woad, the source of Europe's indigo since the Stone

Age.

Woad leaves make the same pigment molecules as the plants they used for indigo down in

India, but not as strong a concentration.

Some recipes for crafting balls of woad pigment called for soaking the leaves in urine under

the heat of the Sun, while trampling them for 3 days.

During all this, a strain of bacteria that's naturally in the woad munches on sugars and

releases the indigo pigment molecules through a process called fermentation.

And urine helps ferment those mashed-up leaves, probably because the ammonia inside helps

balance out any acidity in the plant goo.

On top of that, natural dyes from things like leaves, berries, or bark can leach out of

cloth when you wash it — unless you add a chemical that helps bind the dye, called

a mordant.

Basically, the dye's molecules get caught up in the mordant's molecules, which bind

to the cloth.

And turns out, some of the compounds in stale pee, like ammonia and possibly some trace

metals, makes it a surprisingly good mordant.

In 16th century England, the textile industry used 200 metric tons of urine annually — that's

roughly 1000 people's pee collected every day!

And if you're wondering how they gathered it all: specialized chamberpots, folks.

But why just use one excretion when you could throw an entire human body into your art?

An entire, dried out, crushed up body.

Yes, I'm talking about mummies.

Exporting mummies from Egypt to Europe, grinding them up, and selling them as medicine was

a big business by the 16th century.

In fact, mumia was one of the most common "drugs" found in apothecary shops.

But it was also used to make a pigment called Mummy Brown, usually by mixing it with two

resins from different trees: white pitch and myrrh.

It came in many shades because there wasn't a standard technique, like whether to use

the entire mummy, or — as one recipe called for — "only the finest muscle."

Plus, mummification techniques varied over the centuries.

Different plants, resins, and oils were used during the mummy-making process, and stained

the body different shades of brown.

Some artists felt like Mummy Brown had a good amount of transparency, and used it in watercolors

and oil paint for flesh tones, shading, and glazing.

Others weren't impressed by its quality, and felt like other brown pigments could deliver

the same hues just fine.

And nowadays, it's really hard to find true examples of paintings that incorporate Mummy

Brown.

Even using mass spectrometry to identify the molecules in the paint isn't so certain.

Turns out, a lot of the things used to embalm and wrap mummies were also plain old paint

ingredients.

The Mummy Brown hype went on for 4 centuries, .

And its downfall started in the early 20th century, as people realized they were painting

with grave-robbed human remains, or eventually got grossed out by it.

We started actually recognizing the scientific and archaeological value of mummies, too.

So thanks, society, for deciding that there are at least some human ingredients that don't

belong in art.

But hey, if you want to use your own earwax or pee… nobody's gonna stop you.

Ranking Post Malone's Hit Songs From WORST to BEST - Duration: 10:09.

New series alert, we got another new series.

And in this series, we will be ranking the Hit Songs Of the artists in question From

worst to best.

And today we will be looking at Post Malone, a man who may or may not be a distant relative

of mine.

Now this will be different for every video in this series, but I've limited this one

to songs that charted in the Top 15 on the Billboard 100 otherwise this video would be

too long.

Post is like a hit making machine, so I had to place a limit.

So let's not waste any more time guys, this is CDTVProductions, and I'm gonna be ranking

Post Malone's Hit Songs From Worst to Best.

8 - Spoil My Night (feat.

Swae Lee)

Peaked at Number 15

This one was an easy choice for me.

Not to say it was bad, but I think every other song on here is great, and this song misses

that mark for me.

Sure it's catchy, but so is every song from the album it appears on, so it needs more

than that to stand out, and I just don't feel like it did too much that was noteworthy.

Honestly the main thing I recall from this song is the "beautiful b00bies" line.

That was pretty funny.

Post and Swae both flow nicely for sure and the production is cool, but it strikes me

as more of a decent song rather than exceptional.

7 - White Iverson

Peaked at Number 14

I still have memories of hearing this song, talking to my friends about it, and us agreeing

that this Post Malone guy was gonna be a one hit wonder.

See I was 16 when this dropped, and very closed minded towards most new rappers, so I actually

thought this song was stupid the first time I heard it.

But eventually me and my friends found ourselves listening to it more and more, and just enjoying

it more over time.

Then it just became something we regularly listened to.

I do think it's pretty good, but I have it lower on here as you can tell Post was

less developed when this released.

His sing-rapping style was showcased here, but it was a little bit more shakey than it

is nowadays and didn't have as much power vocally.

So yeah, this song is pretty nice, but I don't think it compares to what Post makes nowadays.

6 - Better Now

Peaked at Number 7

This was the most popular song from Post's most recent album that wasn't released as

a single.

I think it's pretty damn good, but as you can see, it's not my favourite from the

project.

It's one of the few songs on the album that cover the topic of a broken relationship,

that ended with both people feeling unhappy, and kinda wondering if they can re-kindle

their relationship.

I can understand why this one has a lot of mainstream appeal, it's a very easily digestible

subject matter, and a lot of people can relate to it.

On top of that, it sound pretty good, it's just not one of my top tracks from the album.

5 - Pscyho (feat.

Ty Dolla $ign)

Peaked at Number 2

And pretty much all the tracks from this point on are great.

This is a super mellow track, the instrumental is quite understated, and Post, for the most

part, keeps his voice toned down, only raising it up to sing for about 4 Bars during the

verse.

It's just such a soothing song, and of course Ty Dolla $ign delivers as expected.

I've always said this, but even though I haven't listened to much of Dolla $ign's

solo music, I think I've loved him on almost every feature I've heard him on.

He knows how to use his voice really well and I think I'd say he's kinda underrated.

He's a great fit for this track in my opinion.

4 - Rich & Sad

Peaked at Number 14

Being rich can never get you everything you want in the world, but I'm sure that's

hard to come to grips with when you are said rich person.

And that's the story this song follows.

No matter how rich you are, if you're having relationship issues with a girl you love,

you're gonna feel unhappy regardless.

Sometimes chasing the money and the money itself can be the thing that drives a wedge

in a relationship, unless your girl is a gold digger of course, and Post delivers his lyrics

talking about this subject with a helluva lot of passion, as you would expect.

It's an emotional track, and it's one that I found to be among the most impactful

tracks on Beerbongs & Bentley.

3 - Rockstar (feat.

21 Savage)

Peaked at Number 1

I included this track on my 10 Best Songs Of 2017 list, and whilst I feel like I might

find it to be an overplayed song soon, it's one that I can still appreciate a lot.

It stands out to me because it has a bit of a darker aesthetic than most Post Malone songs,

opting for slightly more eerie and cold sounding instruments.

This of course is a perfect choice, as 21 Savage is featured on this track.

I could never imagine hearing him over beats like the ones for Big Lie or Stay, so it's

safe to say the beat was on point here.

Speaking of 21, he actually provides one of my favourite verses that he's done on this

track, and the fact we got some great memes from it is even better.

And it goes without saying that Post's singing is absolutely infectious on this track.

It's not hard to see why it's a number 1 single.

2 - Paranoid

Peaked at Number 11

This might change in the future because this song is so new to me, but I am absolutely

loving it right now, it was a fantastic way to kick off the Beerbongs & Bentleys album.

The title explains the theme of the whole track, which follows the paranoia that comes

with Post Malone's fame, wondering who he really can have faith in.

I like how this is handled, especially the "can't trust no-one like I'm Snowden"

line, and goddamn this thing just sounds beautiful.

I like how you can see Post Malone's evolution over time, as with this track, the melodies

and harmonising are worked in so well during the chorus.

It just sounds effortless to Post at this point in the best possible way, he makes it

seem like crafting a hit song is easy.

This is the song that has stuck with me the most from Beerbongs & Bentleys, so I had to

give it the respect I think it deserves.

1 - Congratulations (feat.

Quavo)

Peaked at Number 8

This right here is a song that just never gets old to me.

The track came out in December of 2016, and I still enjoy it to this day.

It has a fairly chilled out feeling to it instrumentally, and lyrically it tells a story

of success, proving doubters wrong and achieving your dreams, and I find it to be a good song

for motivation.

There's also a couple nice lyrics on Post's verse which is something I can always respect.

And despite being a laidback song, the chorus still has some real power to it in my opinion,

and not to mention it is ridiculously catchy, a skill which Post seems to have mastered.

Additionally, Quavo provides a really good verse here, it's nothing exceptional or

mind blowing, but he sticks to the theme and out of all the Migos members, I think he was

definitely the right choice for this song.

Call me crazy, but I actually think this sounds a little bit different tonally from your standard

Quavo guest verse, but maybe that's just me.

All these elements mentioned above just combine to make a super enjoyable track, and it's

my favourite hit song from

Post Malone.

M&P Slides, Ruger/Vista Struggle, over 310,000 Gun JOBS! - TGC News! - Duration: 14:25.

This week on TGC News, M&P Slides, Vista and Ruger Struggle, The economic impact of the

gun industry and a brand new bluetooth optic system from Sig!

Welcome back to another episode of TGC News, the only gun news show that covers things

you actually care about, my name is Jon Patton.

Before we get cracking I want to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone that came to the TGC

Panel in Dallas a couple weekends ago.

You guys are incredible and I can not say thank you enough.

Keep an eye out for a highlight reel video coming soon.

Now, the news.

We've been away for a bit so there are TONS of things to talk about.

First up, something that got released during the NRA show.

Faxon, most known for their affordable but solid quality barrels has expanded their line

up and are now making aftermarket slides for M&P.

Normally we see everyone jumping on the Glock slides but Faxon said nay, we're doing something

different.

They are launching with 2 different variations.

The Patriot and Hellfire.

The basics are pretty simple, both models are made from 17-4 stainless, coated in DLC,

have serrations almost everywhere and of course are cut to accept popular red dot optics like

the Trijicon, Vortex and Burris options.

They also both are cut for Glock sights.

The Patriot is your kind of duty version with only a slight weight reduction cut into the

top front of the slide whereas the hellfire has cuts all the way through on the top and

front sides of the slide.

I actually got a chance to put my hands on these at NRAAM and I gotta say they are pretty

solid out of the gate.

One of the things they don't quite offer but I think you guys should bug them about is

this crazy blueish color that was on display at the show.

Price point on the standard DLC coated versions start at 499 for the Patriot and 525 for the

Hellfire.

I'm curious to see how this pans out for them.

We certainly don't see as much customization for the M&P pistols as we do with the Glocks

but maybe that is going to set Faxon apart.

What do you guys think?

If you have an M&P is this something you would consider spending 500 bucks on, or would you

go a different direction?

And in not so struggle bus news,

a website called Howmuch.net has taken data from the

NSSF and made it into a much prettier graphic that breaks down the true economic impact

of the gun industry by state as well as the amount of jobs in that state.

I can almost guarantee you guys will be surprised by some of these.

Let's start with the small end of things.

Hawaii, Delaware, and Rhode island are coming with with less than a billion dollars each

in revenue AND because of that there really aren't a ton of jobs in those states with

none of those 3 having more than 600 jobs in total.

On the top end of things, we have some interesting data.

Texas is leading the charge with 3.83 billion dollars and over 24,000 jobs, but it is followed

closely by one of the worst states for gun laws, California, at 3.64 billion dollars

in impact and over 22,000 jobs.

I find it interesting that the number 2 state for the entire industry suffers from arguably

some of the worst laws in the country.

But they aren't alone, The top 10 states in order from largest impact to smallest., Texas,

Texas, California, Minnesota, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts,

New York, and Ohio.

Yes, that's right, HALF of the top 10 are not exactly gun friendly states.

Makes you wonder how so much business is getting done and yet, the laws don't seem to be getting

any better for gun owners in those states.

Honestly, the whole thing is really interesting.

They also published data on how much the overall impact was, and its staggering.

The impact from the gun industry in the US generates over 51 billion dollars and over

310,000 jobs.

Not only that but it generates almost 7 and a half BILLION dollars in taxes.

This is only data from last year guys, HOLY CRAP.

That is a lot of dollars moving around.

According to this NSSF data, the gun industry has grown over 169 percent in the last 10

years.

That is out freaking standing!

And speaking of growth, I want to know how many of you are new to guns in the last 3

years.

Sound off in the comments if you didn't buy a gun until the last 3 years.

And because this is The Gun Collective News and its monday, the struggle bus has to be

here.

The first passenger on the struggle bus this is week is Ruger.

I'm not going to pretend to be some sort of CNBC analyst BUT what I can tell you is that

they are a publicly traded company and therefore the shareholders have a big say in what happens

at the company.

Not long ago the shareholders proposed that Ruger create a report discussing the risks

of their business in terms of gun safety.

I believe this is an effort to somehow get the gun industry to out itself as some kind

of war demon as some on the other side of things would have you believe.

The proposal at Ruger passed and they will now have to create that report.

Interestingly enough, this is not an isolated thing, there is talk that the same thing will

happen during Smith and Wessons big shareholder meeting in the fall.

The long and short of this is that gun manufacturers are now being forced into a fight that they

have largely been silent on, and I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

When the bottom line starts to become impacted, the fight will begin.

Also hopping on the struggle bus this week is outdoor industry giant, Vista Outdoor,

the holding company for brands like Federal, CCI and Savage among others.

On May 1st, Vista announced a new Strategic Business Transformation plan, AKA we are getting

rid of some stuff.

I love how these big business always soak these press releases in buzzwords before they

get set free.

So much jargon.

Anyway, the long and short of it is that Vista is looking to shed some of their key brands

like Bell, Gyro, Blackburn and a couple others I've not heard of so that they can focus on

their core product categories, such as ammunition.

However, also included in that list was Savage and Stevens.

On the surface, this tells us that these other brands are dead weight and that they need

to be sold off to maintain the core of the company.

BUT I did hear a very interesting rumor about this move.

There is potential that these brands are being sold off while they are still strong so that

the money can be used to bolster the struggling ammo side of the business.

THAT is interesting.

There's no way anyone at Vista would come out and say something like that without it

going through 80 different channels

BUT if that's anywhere near true it would be interesting.

I did hear rumors that Vista selling Savage was the result of anti-gun idiots getting

the ear of the executives at Vista but I don't personally believe that to be the case.

When I asked Savage about this, they said the brand is still strong and popular and

that its business as usual at Savage.

They also added that there is no guarantee that they will sell the Savage brand and that

they are simply exploring that option at the moment.

VERY interesting all around and I suppose, as always, that time will tell the truth.

Sig Electro Optics, a kind of branch of the big SIG has been growing quite a bit over

the last few years.

It's kind of impressive to see them truly making impact across the industry.

This new thing intends to do just that.

During NRAAM, they announced a new system called BDX which stands for ballistic data

exchange.

BDX is a system that utilizes bluetooth to connect your scope and range finder to automatically

deliver information between the two and give you a holdover in the reticle of the scope.

Being that is bluetooth, you can also integrate the Applied Ballistics/Sig BDX app and set

up a bunch of presets for your different rifles and ammo choices.

The concept of having a range finding optic is not new, but as they told us in the press

conference, they thought the other executions on that concept looked like a battleship mounted

on a rifle.

They wanted to keep things slim and quite frankly they did just that.

These optics are not bigger than any of their normal scopes.

And here's the kicker, they didn't increase the pricing on the BDX stuff.

MSRP on the Sierra3 BDX WITH the Kilo1400 range finder is only 839 bucks.

I know that's not super cheap but in my opinion that is a solid deal for the kind of capability

you get out of these.

At launch, estimated to be in July of this year, they will have 4 different range finders

and 4 different scopes available with this new BDX system.

There are a metric ton more features but I wanted to keep this short for you guys.

I would love to see more optic companies pushing things forward and really allowing the shooter

to customize their set up and focus more on shooting than dialing.

Very cool.

It's time for more Friendly Fire, the segment where I answer your questions.

This week the questions are coming from the TGC Nation Facebook group, which you should

totally join, link below.

That's easy..

The BFG from doom.

That is still one of the coolest guns in game or movie i've seen.

Well if they continue on the current path, they will be closed.

However, I think someone would buy the brand and hopefully fix it before something like

that would happen.

They need a lot of help.

For me, it's a no-go.

I get that for some people it's an option if they can't or don't want to have something

on their waistband, but I can't think of a situation where I would put a gun on my ankle.

ESPECIALLY since I've never trained that way.

I'm really curious to see how many competitors or competition-curious people we have in the

audience.

And hey, if you want to ask a friendly fire question, send it to me over on the gun collective

instagram!

Millennials vs Generation Z - How Do They Compare & What's the Difference? - Duration: 6:45.

This video was made possible by WIX.

If you are ready to create a website, head over to wix.com/go/infographics to try out

one of their premium plans right now.

Millennials, also referred to as Generation Y, are the generational group who follow Generation

X and are typically categorized as people born between 1980 to the mid-1990s.

Millennials are also sometimes referred to as echo boomers due to a major surge in birth

rates in the 1980s and 90s.

Generation Z or Gen Z is the generational group that came after the Millennials, born

between the mid-1990s up to the mid 2000's.

Generation Z is also referred to as the iGeneration, iGen, or Post-Millennials.

How do these generations compare?

That's what we'll be looking at today, in this episode of The Infographics Show:

Millennials vs Generation Z.

Though these two groups sit side by side on the generation ladder, the expansion of the

Internet and the leaps that have been made with the digital revolution has seen them

exposed to a host of different experiences.

Add to that the influence of parents from different generations, and we have plenty

of scope for differences in attitude and behavior.

We've reviewed what researchers have said, so we can bring you our list of 10 ways these

generations compare and differ.

Let's take a look.

1.

Attention Span - Generation Z processes information faster than any other generation, including

Millennials.

They live in a high tech world of constant updates, and having grown up with access to

apps such as Vine and Snapchat, their attention span is likely to be lower than that of Millennials.

A study showed that while only 4% of Millennials and older generations believe 13 is an ok

age for owning a smartphone, as high as 18% of Generation Z members think it is an ok

age.

2.

Multi-Tasking - A short attention span is not always a drawback, and what Generation

Z lack in focus, they make up for in their multi-tasking capabilities.

Generation Z can work on a school assignment on their computer, and do research on their

tablet, all while taking notes.

And in the evening, they will often sit in front of the TV watching a movie, at the same

time chatting with a friend on Facebook from their phone or laptop.

It's head spinning stuff!

3.

Independent vs Collaborative - 71% of Generation Z say they live by the phrase "if you want

it done right, then do it yourself."

Generation Z tend to be more competitive and will adopt a 'do it yourself' mindset

in personal or professional activities.

And when it comes to workspaces, 69% of Generation Z would rather have their own workspace than

share it with others, whereas Millennials would opt for a collaborative working environment

where they can team up with their colleagues.

4.

The Digital Pioneers - 40% of Generation Z say that reliable Wi-Fi is more important

than reliable bathrooms.

And according to Pew Research, only 14% of U.S. adults had access to the Internet in

1995 but by 2014, 87% had access.

Millennials saw first hand how social media revolutionized the way in which we communicate.

They were pioneers in the digital age, witnessing the birth of smartphones, instant messaging,

and Internet searching capability.

Generation Z were born into this tech immersed society and so have a very different perspective.

5.

Face to Face or Digital Chat – All this technology has also had an effect on how these

generations differ with communication habits, and 74% of Generation Z say they prefer to

communicate face to face with colleagues in the workplace...As we just mentioned, Millennials

pioneered many of the digital communication tools, which revolutionized how we do business,

but with Generation Z preferring a more personal approach, maybe they are the ideal generation

to strike the right balance between online and offline workplace communications.

6.

Optimistic Vision- A 2016 survey conducted by Lincoln Financial Group tells us that Generation

Z are far more optimistic than the Millennials.

50% of Generation Z says America is heading in the right direction, versus 42% of Millennials...64%

of Gen Z have started researching or talking to others about their financial futures by

age 13.

And after they've started having those conversations, 95% of those making financial plans feel optimistic

about their future in general.

7.

Convenience over brands.

- Accenture research tells us that Generation Z love tech driven, fast shopping experiences

like 1-hour delivery, activated shopping and in-store kiosks.

Brands are less important and they'll happily switch retailers who are better at providing

these services.

And they see shopping as a social experience.

They like to consult friends and get opinions on products.

They can be unforgiving when leaving reviews for retailers and are also twice as likely

to consult YouTube as Millennials, before making a purchase.

8.

Different ways of learning - 75% of Generation Z say there are other ways of getting a good

education other than the traditional route of going to college, according to Sparks & Honey

research.

And Generation Z has the beauty of hindsight on their side to see how things panned out

for their counterparts.

Many Millennials now have large student debts and have been left questioning whether it

was worth it, with 44% of recent college grads employed in jobs that do not require a degree.

9.

Tolerance - Millennials tend to be more tolerant than Generation Z, as they have generally

encountered more situations in life where things have the potential to go wrong.

For Generation Z, it's all about getting the job done and problems for them to look

elsewhere.

As an example, if Generation Z experience a technical hitch when making an online purchase,

it's unlikely they'll visit the store again, whereas Millennials will be more lenient

and likely give the store a second chance.

And finally number 10...Social influencers are today's celebrities.

- Generation Z are more likely to be browsing YouTube than sitting in a movie theatre.

63% of them say they prefer to see real people than celebs in their ads.

So it's pretty obvious we've probably got a large percentage of Generation Z viewers,

here at The Infographics Show.

But, whether you're Gen Y or Gen Z, one thing is for sure, you need money.

What are you talking about?

Frederick, I think we might have drank too much

and something that shouldn't have happened...might have happened

No, you mean...

Yeah Frederick! I have a sneaking suspicion that last night...

...you violated me

What?? Me??

Where did you get that from?

Where?! Maybe from the toilet where I was sitting that suddenly

looks like a bowl of sweet and sour sauce

I don't know if I get it and I don't think I want to get it

Oh you get it Frederick! You molested my ass!

Let's calm down here, let's relax for a second

and if, IF something really happened

I'm the victim here!

I beg your pardon

Of course! I'm a minor! You're over fifty I was clearly seduced by you!

I definitely didn't know what was going on

Seduced? Were you also seduced by half the furniture here?

I think you knew exactly what you were doing

when you impregnated all the pillows in the house

Is that what you saw yesterday? A big fluffy pillow

dressed as a rock just waiting to be plowed! Was that it??

I was drunk! I shouldn't even be drinking, you should have stopped it!

Oh I would have, if you had said to me "Oh Bernard by the way I'm gonna violate you tonight okay?"

Okay let's put it this way: a 50 year old millionaire playboy and a scrawny orphan

innocent kid, drinking in the 50-year old perverts wine cellar!

Wait, pervert?

You're not?

Hi folks, things have really heated up in today's episode, right?

But what's the moral of today's story?

That you should have a diet rich in fibers, to have a healthy evacuation

otherwise you might find yourself caught in a terrible misunderstanding

and have to go through forensic examination in a cold police precinct

which can be very awkward and traumatizing, right?

Well guys just remember that technically, nothing bad happened here today and

you don't have to tell anyone about this, okay?

see you next time

What Happens When You Stare At The Sun - Duration: 3:24.

- [Narrator] Whether it's to map the stars,

spy on other planets, or study the sun,

humans have been looking to the skies for millennia,

but some objects are safer to observe than others.

For example, astronomer Mark Thompson put a pig's eye

behind a regular telescope and aimed it at the sun,

and it burned a hole straight through the lenses

in about 20 seconds.

Now looking at the sun through a telescope

is an especially terrible idea,

but just how bad is it to glance up with the naked eye?

On a clear day the sun shines up to 5000 times brighter

than an average light bulb.

When something that bright strikes your eye,

a few things can happen.

If it's only for a moment the worst you'll experience

is a blurry splotch on your vision called an after image.

Normally light reaches the retina at the back of your eye

where it triggers photo receptors

that relay the information to your brain.

This is how you're able to see anything,

but bombard them with too much light at once,

and you can actually damage the cells and proteins

that help them process light.

Since your retina has no pain receptors

the damage won't hurt,

but it will leave the blurry splotch on your vision.

Usually it clears up in a few minutes

that is unless you keep staring.

Now you're doing more damage

than just overloading your retina.

For starters you're giving your eyes

an abnormally high dose of UV radiation,

the same stuff that causes sunburns.

Like your skin the cornea at the front of your eye

can also burn and that will hurt.

The cornea protects the rest of your eye,

and is therefore covered in pain receptors

that alert you whenever a pesky eyelash is on the loose,

but UV radiation isn't the only issue.

Too much visible light can penetrate your eye

and damage the retinal tissue

which causes a condition called solar retinitis.

This means parts of retina

can no longer process light normally,

so you can end up with entire chunks

of your vision blurred out.

Depending on the extent of the damage

recovery can take weeks, months,

and in severe cases over a year,

but in rare cases the damage is so extreme it never heals

leading to a rare condition called solar retinopathy.

This usually only shows up in reckless eclipse gazers.

Turns out during a solar eclipse most of the sun's light

is blocked which can actually trick your brain

into thinking it's safe to stare.

Normally our bodies have a built-in defense mechanism

against staring at the sun.

Specifically when we squint we look up

which minimizes the amount of light coming in

and protects our cornea and retina,

but during a solar eclipse the sun doesn't appear

bright enough to trigger our defense mechanisms,

so we can end up staring for longer than is safe.

Suffice to say there's nothing good

about staring at the sun,

so do your eyes a favor and avoid looking at it.

After all, there are around 6000 stars

in the night sky which you can safely observe

for as long you wish.

Robert Mueller Caught Red-Handed Trying To Steal Congress's Most Dangerous Constitutional Right - Duration: 5:33.

Robert Mueller Caught Red-Handed Trying To Steal Congress's Most Dangerous Constitutional

Right.

Special counsel Robert Mueller seems to have many in mainstream media and on the progressive

left fooled, convinced he is some kind of an upstanding public servant.

In The Threat Matrix, Garrett Graff writes that "both political parties respect"

Mueller as "a consummate law enforcement professional with a track record, forged in

Vietnam, of grace under fire and getting organizations on track."

Yet, that veneer is starting to wear thin with moderates, independents, libertarians,

conservatives, and pretty much any other thinking person that is willing to actually consider

the facts.

Many are no longer fooled by Mueller's Boy Scout act and critics point out that Mueller's

actions along with the corruption and complicity of the FBI may be the downfall of America

as we know it.

Political commentator Mark Levin points out that Mueller has and continues to undermine

the Constitution and the very foundation of the United States of America with this continued

investigation.

He states that the very nature of the investigation itself is unconstitutional as the framers

never intended for one single man to have the power to impeach the president of the

United States.

It utterly obliterates the entire idea of checks and balances.

If Mueller has nothing on President Donald Trump at all, then he is simply trying to

railroad him and overthrow a legitimately elected leader to the office of president.

But, if Mueller does actually have any evidence at all?

Then it would be up to Congress to make the decision as to whether that offense is worthy

of impeachment, not Mueller and his team of sycophants.Levin states – "Mr. Mueller

wants to interview the President and he wants to interview him under the most onerous circumstances.

What is the purpose of an interview like that, based on those 49 general areas?

His purpose is to indict the President.

Now, what's the purpose of indicting the President?

To try the president and to find him guilty.

What's the purpose of a conviction?

It's to remove the President of the United States from office.

That's the bottom line.

o president has ever been indicted while in office, not one.

No President has ever been forced before a federal grand jury, not one.

No President has ever been removed from office by the United States Senate in two-thirds

vote of the Senate.

Not one.

Mueller's purpose, his purpose is to remove the President."

Levin goes on to explain exactly what that could mean and why it is so dangerous -"That

means one man, one jury will usurp the entire constitutional power of Congress, the power

to remove a President.

You can indict every other public official, a judge, for instance, while they're in

office, and go through the impeachment process.

You cannot do it with a President."

As this Russian collusion investigation heads towards the two-year mark with still no proof

of wrongdoing in sight – Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders appeared to speak for

many Americans when she expressed frustration, stating – "the president is frustrated

by the continued witch hunt of the Russia investigation and he'd love for this to

come to a full conclusion so that everyone can focus fully on the thing that he was elected

to do."

Levin rightly goes on to point out that in his opinion it is way past time for the subversive

AG Jeff Sessions to step up, and it is time for the corrupt anti-American Rod Rosenstein

to pay attention.

Both of those things are unlikely to happen, given that their loyalties lie outside of

the wellbeing of this country.

The discussion about potential indictments and all of the associated chatter from various

attorneys claiming to be some level of expert involving issues so bizarre as to defy comprehension

with what the original framers of the Constitution and the original founders of this country

had in mind originally at this country's inception.Levin believes the entire purpose

that the progressive Left and their media lapdogs "are hanging their hat on Mueller"

is they'll never get 2/3rds in the Senate to remove this President.

I don't care if they impeach him, they'll never get 2/3rds.

It's never happened before."

Levin explains – "So what they're hoping to do is trap him in this notion of a subpoena

and questioning, indict him, try and humiliate him, try and force him in front of a court,

hope that they get the Supreme Court on their side, which I doubt they will, but you never

know with these courts and then get him to resign.

That's their game plan.

Mr. Mueller is undermining the Constitution.

He's not upholding the rule of law…what's going on right now is anti-Constitutional.

It is undermining our system.

The framers wanted the body politic to decide on whether or not to remove one branch of

government, just as the body politic put that person there in the first place."

After nearly two years of no proof, no crime, and no evidence committed by President Trump

and his administration, yet the ever-growing mountain of evidence mounting of crimes and

obstruction of justice on the part of the crooked Department of Justice, FBI and Obama-Clinton-Soros

Mafia.

The swamp is very, very deep and a very dangerous place for good, decent people to venture into.

what do you think about this?

3300HP Street Car, World's FASTEST | Larry Larson [TECH TALK] - Duration: 14:43.

- There's no doubt that EFI has made a big impact on the sort of horsepower

levels, the ETs and the mile an hour that we're seeing in drag racing circles.

And we're here with Larry Larson, who is the owner of the world's

fastest street car, his Chevy S10 truck has gone as quick as 589 on the quarter

and it's run as fast as 244 mile an hour.

Now Larry you've been a long time drag racer and I'm guessing that you've

been brought up initially on the carburettor years,

and you've transitioned into EFI.

How hard initially was that to move from tuning carburettors

to electronic fuel injection?

- Well a screwdriver doesn't work very good on a laptop to start with.

But it was a change, it was a welcome change because like with anything

else you wanna be out there doing stuff that nobody else was doing.

So it was good, once again a learning experience for sure.

- You've been a fairly early adopter of EFI, I think you said to me that you'd

been running EFI for as long as 20 years now.

And back then the technology with EFI certainly wasn't anywhere near

what we've got today.

How have you seen that EFI market change and how has that helped

you go faster and faster?

- Well technology has done amazing things.

I was on both sides of it 20 years ago, I helped a customer with the first

EFI car in Comp Eliminator NHRA with a Motec system and then I had

an antiquated old Accel system that I purchased for my own use in '97.

So I had both ends of the spectrum but with technology advancing like it has,

then you know things just keep getting better and better and better

and it's not every year, it's every month or two now.

- When we're talking about a fairly low powered street engine,

obviously the tuning envelope is quite wide but when we're talking about

some of these pro mod style twin turbo engines being used in drag cars,

making 2000, 2500, 3000 horsepower, that tuning window becomes so much

narrower and it's much easier to hurt an engine.

So why is the EFI so critical in getting the sort of power levels

out of those engines?

- Well you can adjust everything from RPM wise to boost wise,

the things you can't do with a blow through carburettor.

So you have the ability to adjust cylinder to cylinder timing,

cylinder to cylinder fuel delivery, once again different RPM,

different boost levels.

So that really plays into it and then because of what it is,

just like my truck running on dual fuel, driving the thing on gasoline

and then racing the thing on methanol, I can change, it takes longer for me

to change the fuel system as far as the hoses and how the fuel flows into

the engine than it does for me to change, it takes about five seconds on the fuel

tank to change it on the screen, to go from a methanol map to a gas map and back.

- I wanna touch on that a little bit, but before we get more into the setup

on your truck, tuning, generally a lot of tuners require a dyno or feel like

the best results they're going to get require a dyno.

And you said to me before we started this interview that you've never actually

used a dyno.

So yeah talk to us a little bit about that, do you feel that having access

to a dyno would be an advantage, or do you see that there are more

advantages in tuning under real world conditions at the actual track?

- Well I think if you don't have any map to start out with then maybe the dyno

would be beneficial.

But once again I've never been on the dyno per se with any of my

turbocharged applications, or any customer stuff for that matter.

So I can see it being an advantage to some point but at the end of the day,

we're out on the race track or we're out on the highway and those are real

world conditions and that's what you have to tune it for.

- I think that real world conditions is a really critical part because

I've been a big time advocate of even with access to a really good quality dyno,

be it an engine dyno, a chassis dyno, or whatever,

it's almost impossible to replicate the air flow and temperatures that you're

actually gonna see at 200 plus mile an hour and that does have a serious

effect on the tune up?

- Yes correct because if you've got air inlets in the hood or don't have any

air inlets in the hood or wherever the things getting air at,

that's gonna change, it's gonna change for outside air temperature,

or if it's picking up heat off the racetrack.

And then from a drivability standpoint, you take one out and fire it up

and run it on the dyno for whatever, five minutes, 15 seconds,

whatever the number is, you can't duplicate to going out and driving

the thing and heat soaking the thing after 30, 40, 50 miles.

- OK so to move onto your Chevy S10 truck, so with EFI, and engines making huge power

actually how much power are you estimating that that engine's producing?

- I'm guessing the thing probably makes in the neighbourhood of 3300.

- So with that sort of power level, particularly when you're running

on methanol fuel in a drag event, you need a huge amount of fuel

when you're running methanol, so how are you handling that?

'Cause one thing we've seen over the last probably decade at least is the

availability of larger fuel injectors has improved, but how are you running

that system, the fuel system in the Chevy?

- I've got billet atomiser injectors in it currently.

I've got a 245 and an 850 and if I was running it strictly on alcohol and just

racing it I'd probably have twin 700s to supply the amount of fuel that I need.

But because I drive it and run it on gasoline, that's why it's got

a 245 and an 850 in it because when I drive it, it just runs on the 245

which makes it nice.

It's real crisp and clean even on methanol at part throttle.

And then the 850 is then, it's staged in at a later date and with the FuelTech

it becomes really smooth, you don't even know it comes in.

- So that FuelTech ECU, another thing that the FuelTech ECU that I'm aware of

is they run an external driver box for the injectors.

And this is a problem when you're running a V8 engine and you're running staged

injection, now you've got 16 low impedance injectors.

Each of those injectors is drawing quite a lot of current and a lot of the ECUs

with internal injector drivers can struggle under those sort of conditions

to accurately control the injectors, is that a reasonable sort of way

of explaining things.

- Yes and the other thing I like about it, is that if you were to have a driver

failure, in a lot of the boxes, the drivers are internal.

So now you've gotta send the box back, have a spare box whatever.

With the FuelTech and the external drivers each driver powers four injectors,

so you just change out that driver if you ever have an issue

which I never have but you have that capability and you're not

married to what's going on in the ECU or the unit itself.

- So serviceability at the track, the ability have spares becomes

a whole lot easier.

- Yes the only downside is it's a little bit more stuff to mount,

but in the same token the actual ECU for the FuelTech is considerably

smaller than anybody else's ECU that I'm aware of.

- Now with the other drive we've seen in drag racing circles,

going back 10 years or so we've seen cars with multiple electronic boxes,

one's for fuel control, one's for ignition control, bump boxes et cetera.

And now we're seeing with more technology being applied to the

aftermarket ECUs available, everything's been brought down

into one box, can you talk to us about how that's affected your own car?

- Yeah when we first put the truck together, we had multiple systems.

I had a separate boost controller, a separate bump box,

separate ignition.

Basically the FuelTech at that point in time just did the EFI part of it.

But now with the technology that's been, and the updates that they've done

and the new FD600 that they brought out in the spring,

now I've got the FuelTech, the 600 just running everything.

It does the bump box, the traction control if I wanna use it,

the boost control, it'll do coil on plug, it will do everything,

which makes it really nice that you don't have to plug into three or four

different modules or three or four different systems and then chase

that around on your laptop trying to decide what you wanna do.

On top of the fact that it also has the data recording capabilities now

that we installed one in a customer's car this spring and used it for

the complete data recording capability, doing converter pressure

and shock travels and everything, so now you've got one system

that does everything so you're not floating from screen to screen to screen

which makes it a lot faster and less complicated from a tuner standpoint.

- Now you've also just mentioned there boost control and you've mentioned

traction control, I just wanna dig into those two topics a little bit.

So particularly when you've got potentially 3300 horsepower, there abouts,

certainly off the start line, you're not gonna be able to get all of that power

to the ground.

How critical has accurate boost control become as the power levels have increased?

- Well it has to repeat because with the turbocharged stuff,

if that thing varies a pound of boost that's a lot of power,

and so if it varies then you're chasing your tail.

And it's bad enough on a prepped surface, if you go out and run some

of this no prep stuff like we've been running this year,

it becomes very critical so you need something that will repeat

and that you can manipulate to do what you need it to do.

- Now in terms of making adjustments to that boost pressure run to run,

what are you looking at?

Are you looking at sort of whether or not you've got wheel spin and then adjusting

the boost pressure to try and maximise the amount of traction you've got

available at the track?

- Yeah you're looking at, once again, like on the no prep stuff,

or even the prep races, you're basically racing the racetrack.

I mean you're trying to go as fast as you can go at the racetrack.

So you're looking at what the wheel speed's doing, what the G meter's doing,

and just trying to apply as much power to it as you can.

With that becomes gear ratio and converter and everything else.

But it's still a matter of trying to produce as much power as you can

and repeatable power.

- OK so now in terms of traction control, so obviously you're going to try

and tune the engine to produce optimal power for the amount of traction.

But obviously sometimes you get it wrong, maybe the track's gone away slightly

and you do end up in a situation with wheel spin.

So what's your take on traction control, is that something that you rely on?

- You know I've been around that since probably '03, '04 with the big stuff units

back then and Mike Moran helped a lot in some of the earlier years.

And the traction control, to me is a fail safe.

It's never the fastest way down through there.

It may be the, it will save a run but it's usually never the fastest way.

So for me I feel as a tuner, I wanna tune this thing where it shouldn't need

the traction control.

If I'm at a really sketchy surface or a really high dollar race where I wanna

make sure that I don't do something foolish then I may turn it on.

But a lot of these guys use it run after run after run and use it for a tuning tool

which you can but my pockets aren't deep enough to be replacing engine parts

and some of the stuff that it has a little bit of an effect on using it repeatedly.

So I try and stay away from them but it's there to use and it works really well.

- Can you just talk a little bit about how sort of relying on that traction control

and running on it continuously can potentially hurt engine components?

- Well what I've seen and what my engine builders have told me at Pro Line

is that what they see is if you run one on the dots as they wanna say,

where the thing's constantly pulling timing in and out and or maybe

misfiring the engine to keep everything in check, is that it gets really hard

on crankshafts and crankshaft dampeners, and they've even seen it so bad at times

where it would try and weld the crankshaft hub to the crankshaft.

So they've done some things there to make that better from that standpoint.

But once again for me I take more pride in trying to run it without it if I can

but that's not everybody.

- I just wanna rewind a little bit and just talk about some of the capabilities

with the EFI in terms of the individual cylinder tuning capabilities.

And this really comes back to what I was saying before.

When you're running these sort of engines at that sort of power level,

that window for tuning becomes much much narrower and it's really important

to make sure that all eight cylinders are receiving a safe air fuel ratio.

So how are you going about making those sort of adjustments?

- Well depends on what combination you have, if it's a blown combination,

or a nitrous combination.

You know you can run a lambda and O2 in every pipe but a turbocharged

application you're basically running one behind each turbo.

So the cylinder to cylinder you're relying on is still reading

the spark plug, you can look at some EGD stuff.

The EGDs will give you an idea but it's still, depending on placement in the

header and all that, it's never the same engine to engine.

So at the end of the day you're still looking at a spark plug and trying to make

everything as close as you can that way.

- So technology's moved on but still some of the old school ways of reading plugs

is still critical.

- Yeah absolutely.

- Well look it's been really interesting getting some insight into what

makes your car tick there Larry and we understand you're going back

to drag week to try and run into the fives next year, is that correct?

- If the tracks will, they're supposed to announce later on.

So if the tracks are good enough that I think we can pull it off,

then yeah that's why I'll go back 'cause nobody else has been able to do it,

so I think, I hope we can get it accomplished for them.

- Well if the tracks are to your liking and you do run back next year,

we look forward to seeing you run that first five second pass,

thanks for the chat.

Trump-Hating Liberal Mayor Who Tipped off Illegals Finally Facing the Music - Duration: 5:01.

Trump-Hating Liberal Mayor Who Tipped off Illegals Finally Facing the Music.

Democratic Mayor of Oakland, Libby Schaaf, stunned the country when she tipped off criminal

aliens about an ICE raid.

She betrayed the country to protect illegal immigrants.

Now, after so many months, she is facing the music.

Most patriotic Americans can't stand the idea of "sanctuary cities."

These cities are protecting illegal immigrants.

Not just any illegals, but the ones specifically arrested by police for breaking the law.

Under sanctuary laws, police are not allowed to hand these criminals over to ICE for deportation.

Imagine that.

These illegal immigrants broke enough laws to get arrested.

Instead of facing the penalty for their crimes, they are released back into society to break

more laws.

Worse than a sanctuary city or county is an entire sanctuary state.

Earlier this year, Gov. Jerry Brown made California a sanctuary for criminal aliens.

Even though many residents despise this policy, many others support it.

That includes Democrat Libby Schaaf, Mayor of Oakland.

Because of California's sanctuary police, ICE has to work extra hard.

Instead of getting help from local law enforcement, they have to conduct risky raids to apprehend

criminal aliens.

These aren't "innocent" illegal immigrants, but dangerous criminals.

They are members of drug cartels and gangs, rapists and murderers.

But the state of California puts these criminals ahead of you and me.

They bend over backward to shield them from the law.

In fact, when she learned that ICE was about to conduct a raid in her city, Schaaf warned

the illegals.

It is estimated that over 800 potentially dangerous criminals got away, thanks to this

traitor.

Now, Schaaf is about to face the music.

A lawsuit is about to be filed that will expose her true motives.

It can lead to greater actions against this un-American liberal.

The Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) will file a lawsuit Monday seeking to force

Oakland, California, to produce documents related to its mayor Libby Schaaf's decision

to tip off illegal aliens to a major enforcement action in February, IRLI Executive Director

Dale Wilcox revealed for the first time on Sirius XM's Breitbart News Sunday.

We're "tired of these state and local jurisdictions who are thumbing their nose

at our duly enacted immigration laws," Wilcox told Breitbart News Deputy Political Editor

Amanda House…

IRLI requested copies of emails and other internal communications between Schaff and

her top-level staff related to Schaaf's public tip-off under the California Public

Records Act (CPRA), but according to IRLI's complaint, the assigned deadline passed without

any documents being produced.

IRLI is now suing to force Oakland to hand over the documents.

"I think [the documents are] going to expose [Schaaf and her staff] radical open-borders

philosophy and how … [Schaaf] has been scheming with the chief of police," Wilcox told House

about what IRLI hopes their lawsuit will uncover.

"She has mentioned in news reports about conversations she's had with her chief of

police over tipping off illegal aliens.

She's been quite brazen.

She's actually said she's willing to go to jail to defend criminal illegal aliens."

[Source: Breitbart] She better be ready to make good on that word.

Imagine a politician who cares so much more for illegals than Americans, that she'd

go to jail to help them?

Would Schaaf go to jail to help an American citizen?

Probably not.

But she is willing to go to jail helping murderers, rapists, and drug dealers.

It makes you think.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions was one of many officials outraged over Schaaf's actions.

She exposed the details of a sensitive operation by law enforcement.

That's tantamount to obstruction of justice.

It's the same as if she called up mobsters and warned them the police were coming.

Her actions jeopardized ICE's operations.

She must be held accountable.

This lawsuit will require her and her office to hand over every piece of communication

leading up to the raid.

As mayor, she clearly knew about the raid.

She and her cronies in the local police conspired to undermine the federal government.

Her "tip off" was an obvious attempt to let illegals know ahead of time — so they

could hide.

With those documents in hand, the IRLI could prove there was intent to violate the law.

It would give the federal government grounds to prosecute her.

If nothing else, it will reveal to the voting public that she has little regard for the

law.

Libby Schaaf puts the well-being of illegal immigrants ahead of American citizens.

So why should she stay in office?

What do you think about this?

Lost Horror Movies Nobody Talks About Anymore - Duration: 7:48.

Nowadays, getting your paws on even the most obscure horror flick is as easy as booting

up your computer and searching the web.

But back in the days of analogue TVs and VCRs, gorehounds of discerning taste weren't so

lucky.

In other words: when a horror movie up and vanished, it was all but gone for good.

Hope you didn't plan on sleeping tonight, because these are some of the most obscure

horror films lost to time, and they're so underrated, it's scary.

The Keep

Michael Mann is a pretty beloved filmmaker, so the fact that one of his flicks missed

out on the DVD or Blu-Ray treatment is a little peculiar.

But then again, 1983's The Keep is pretty peculiar too, and nothing like the rest of

Mann's work.

With its eerie, gothic ambiance and World War II setting, it's a far cry from Mann's

typical tales of brooding, handsome, urban coppers.

For whatever reason though, Mann must've thought it'd be neat to adapt a horror novel into

a surreal, nightmarish art film.

And the results are pretty much what you'd expect.

"I WILL DESTROY THEM!!"

Here's the gist: a Nazi platoon encounters an ancient monster in an abandoned fortress.

Then the monster goes on to eliminate the soldiers one after another, as monsters do.

A soundtrack by German electronic pioneers Tangerine Dream and extremely disjointed editing

both serve to amplify the film's dreamlike feel.

And despite The Keep's thematic departure from the rest of Mann's work, the auteur's

signature visual style is as sharp as ever.

It's not exactly a lost classic, and Mann himself tends to act like the film doesn't

exist, but yes, Michael Mann, you did make a movie about Nazis getting pulverized by

monsters.

And, dare we say, it was pretty rad.

Hospital Massacre

1981's Hospital Massacre has one thing going for it: it lets the audience know what they're

in for right from the title card, and it delivers on that promise.

There's a hospital, and a massacre takes place.

Really, the film is a paragon of truth in advertising.

It could only have been more accurate if it had been called Hospital Massacre, and Barbie

Benton Bares All.

That's right, while plenty of slasher flicks take place in a hospital, none but Hospital

Massacre could boast the presence of Playboy model Barbi Benton, who spends much of the

film running in terror from a masked killer who may or may not be a spurned childhood

admirer.

Spoiler alert: He totally is.

The mystery isn't mysterious, the slayings are run-of-the-mill, and the ending is telegraphed

from a mile away, but here's Benton in the middle of it all, looking gorgeous and treating

the whole cheesy, ridiculous enterprise with deadpan seriousness.

It's certainly no Halloween II, but there's no shame in falling short of the bar set by

that timeless classic.

The Beast Within

It was a mostly crappy fright flick with one of the most intriguing marketing campaigns

in horror cinema history.

The trailer for 1982's The Beast Within opens with plain white text on a black screen:

But it doesn't stop there:

Of course, it wasn't the first movie to make such claims, but it actually was unique in

that it totally delivered on its threat.

The film's special effects team weren't household names, but the sequence in question, in which

the teen transforms violently and painfully into one of the most hideous things anyone

has ever seen on film, definitely showed where the heck the movie's entire budget went.

Superior filmmakers have made similar sequences with more soul, but The Beast Within's staggeringly

long and revolting transformation scene is exactly the stomach-churning test of will

its marketing promised.

Xtro

1982's Xtro may have been remembered as just another attempt to cash in on the success

of Alien, if it had been content to just stay put in one genre.

While it begins with a fairly standard alien invasion narrative, it shows its hand in its

completely gonzo back half, where it pays homage to everything from slasher flicks to

zombie movies to Carrie.

Years after a man is kidnapped by aliens, one of the slimy things returns to, erm, "impregnate"

his wife.

But then she gives birth to her husband, a full-grown man, in a manner every bit as graphic

and horrifying as you're imagining.

Things then get really weird as the man imbues his son with psychic powers, which he uses

to bring his toys to life and murder his classmates.

The son then inexplicably develops a thirst for blood, and by this point audiences are

wondering just how many beats from other films this story can accommodate.

Critical reviews were scathing, Roger Ebert said of the film:

"You either go to a monster movie because it was good, or maybe because it was entertaining

trash.

But Xtro doesn't even qualify as acceptable trash."

But fans appreciated writer/director Harry Bromley Davenport's willingness to dump every

single freaky idea in his head into one supremely bizarre movie.

The Stuff

While b-movie auteur Larry Cohen's more recent credits include Phone Booth and Captivity,

his career as both a writer and director stretches back decades.

And he has never been one to let a super-low budget or an insane premise, or both, get

in the way of his good time.

Case in point: 1985's The Stuff, which stars frequent collaborator Michael Moriarty as

an investigator determined to find out what's in … the Stuff, a hot new food product that

bubbles up from a hole in the Earth, is addictively delicious, and may or may not be sentient.

"It's called the stuff, and believe me: Enough is never enough."

The film functions equally well as a cutting satire of American consumerism and as a B-monster

movie, with several memorably creepy sequences, most notably the one in which a couple discovers

that their bed has been infested with the Stuff, a scene that recycled the set used

for Johnny Depp's demise in A Nightmare on Elm Street.

The underrated Moriarty plays perfectly to the material, and the social-satire-as-B-movie

aesthetic was ahead of its time, predating Paul Verhoeven's RoboCop and John Carpenter's

They Live by several years.

The Stuff is a little-seen gem that also happens to boast one of the best horror taglines ever:

"Are you eating it?

Or is it eating you?"

It's Alive

"You see… there's only one thing wrong with the Davis baby, it's alive."

"WHRAAAAAWWRR."

Speaking of Larry Cohen, the auteur showed his stripes early on with his fourth feature,

1974's It's Alive, based on the novel of the same name.

Having mainly trafficked in blaxploitation flicks up to that point, his work took a hard

left turn with this tale of a woman who gives birth to a somewhat … unusual child.

Escaping the hospital, it's hunted by police, its father, and a representative of a pharmaceutical

drug company whose contraceptive medication almost certainly caused the mutation.

It doesn't end well for any of them.

Whether this film represents the most insane possible take on birth control the '70s had

to offer is up for debate.

But its seriously disturbing premise and creature effects have made it a cult classic, to say

nothing of its ending, which probably gives children of the '70s nightmares to this day.

Its bloody climax, in which Monster Baby is finally dispatched by the police, let audiences

relax just long enough to deliver one of the best gut-punch final lines of dialogue in

horror: "Another one's been born in Seattle."

How to Get Off the Fence and Make a Decision - Duration: 3:51.

(upbeat music)

- Do you ever struggle with making decisions?

I know I do, but procrastination is stressful too.

It messes with my flow and bogs down other people.

So today I wanna share two questions

that will help you get off the fence

and spring into action. (spring boings)

Number one, ask yourself if what you're considering

will tire you or inspire you?

If it's tires you and you don't have to do it

graciously decline, say no thank you.

And remember, every no makes room for the perfect yes.

And here's the flip side to that.

Every draining yes is a no to something that matters.

Meaning a yes to commitments that you're not psyched about

is a no to your friends, your family, your kitty cat.

To star gazing and lake swimming.

It's a no to the farmers market, a home cooked meal

or your favorite workout class, you get the picture.

The truth is we don't have endless energy

or hours in a day, so the next time you get a request

you're not sure about, meditate on whether

it tires or inspires you, and then decide accordingly.

And if you do have to do it, try making some boundaries.

Do you really have to commit to every aspect of the ask?

Or can you say yes to parts of it

and can you also ask for help too?

Number two, ask your body.

So my pal Dr. Chris Northrup taught me this one.

I recently called her to talk through

a tricky business opportunity.

On the one hand saying yes would give me a chance

to influence a powerful healthcare company.

On the other hand it was complicated and time consuming.

Plus it was risky, I'd never made a deal like this before

and I could easily be taken advantage of.

So the more I thought about it

the more it seemed like a big no,

but because I'm an optimistic gal

on a mission to make a difference, I was waffling.

Well Dr. Northrup cut right to the chase and asked,

"What does your body think?"

Eh, (laughs) no one had ever asked me that.

Before I could even react, my body grabbed the mike

and said, thanks for asking, the answer is, heck no!

It's too much work, something feels off,

maybe later but definitely not now.

Well I instantly felt my body relax and a huge weight lift

so I graciously declined, and while it was uncomfortable

to disappoint people, this exercise helped me

stay true to what was right for me.

So the next time you have a tough decision to make,

take one of these suggestions for a spin.

Either ask yourself if it tires or inspires you,

or check in with your body.

In fact, try both and then guess what you gotta do, listen.

So now it's your turn.

Do you have a decision you can use this strategy for?

Take a minute and check it, then let us know

what you decide in the comments below.

I hope this helps you live like you mean it,

to feel better, get better and to do better.

【曾子 (Soshi)】命に嫌われている。(Hated by life itself.)【歌ってみた (Sang It)】 - Duration: 4:34.

"Don't say you want to die Live on without giving up!"

...How foolish it is to say songs with lyrics like that are correct.

In truth, I couldn't care a bit if I died, but I'd be pretty sad if the people around me did

I suppose it's some kind of ego; that goes "because I just wouldn't like it"

Not caring if strangers live or not,

And hating someone else just seems like some kind of fashion now

But "Live peacefully" nevertheless?

What a wonderful thing that would be indeed...

On the other side of the screen, someone dies Lamenting that someone else sings

Influenced by that, a young boy Ran off carrying a knife.

We are hated by life itself.

Pushing values and ego, as always, so very simply we broadcast songs about

wanting to kill somebody else over radio waves.

We are hated by life itself.

We who thoughtlessly say we want to die And look at life carelessly, are hated by it.

I've got no money, and so throughout the day again, I sing songs of praise to indolence

Still without grasping the meaning of life, I come to an epiphany that it's pointless and take a breath.

Are these wounds really ok to be expressed with words like "I'm lonely"

Carrying nothing but such obstinacy, today again I sleep alone on my bed

We who were but youths at some point start to change into young adults.

Growing old, one day we rot away like fallen leaves with not a soul in the world knowing of our existence...

Obtaining an immortal body, and living our whole existence without dying...

...I'm just daydreaming about these kinds of science fiction situations

I couldn't care a bit if I died, But I'm wanted alive by the people around me

Living on carrying such contradictions... I think I'll get yelled at.

"Things that are 'correct' should stay 'correct'"

"If you don't want to die, then live"

If we're going to end up sad and if that's fine

Then you gotta laugh alone forever

We are hated by life itself.

Without even grasping the meaning of joy, we just hate the hand life has dealt us

and merely curse our pasts.

We are hated by life itself.

We who simply like the idea of the word "goodbye" a little too much, with no knowledge of a true farewell, are hated by life itself.

Happiness, farewells, love and friendship;

They're all goods that can be bought for money... within jokes made by comical dreams.

I might just die tomorrow you know, Everything might just end up being for naught,

Mornings and nights, spring and autumn, Unchanging, someone dies somewhere.

I don't need dreams or even a tomorrow, If you'll have lived on then that's all I need.

Yeah...

That's actually what I want to sing about.

Hated by life itself In the end, we'll die anyway

You will, I will, one day all of us will rot away like fallen leaves

But regardless, we live on frantically-- Shouldering our lives, frantically, we live--

Killing, struggling, laughing, shouldering it all

Living, living, living, living-- just live.

Thanks for watching!
