5 Days Of Random Acts Of Kindness | Try Living With Lucie | Refinery29 - Duration: 11:43.

I'm Lucie Fink and this week is Five Days of Random Acts of Kindness.

Hey guys welcome back to Try Living With Lucie if your new to our YouTube channel, click

on the little subscribe box right here.

Some quick real talk, I learned that 80% of the people that watch these videos are not

yet subscribed.

Don't you want to be part of the squad?

It's very easy.

If you already have a Gmail account you already have a YouTube account too.

And subscribing is so easy.

Just put your mouse right here where my finger is, and now follow my finger and tap gently

in the corner.

Yes!

Alright, first and foremost you'll probably notice I'm not in my bedroom.

My apartment building is currently undergoing construction, and I went to make this webcam

this morning and there were construction workers hanging from ropes outside my window.

So I decided to move his webcam to Refinery29.

I'm in our studio right now and I'm just going to do it from here.

Onto the video.

Most of my five day challenges wind up being focused on me.

For example, how does five days without coffee make me feel?

How do I feel after five days of facing my fears?

And even I know that many of you guys wind up applying my lessons to your lives.

I decided that this week's episode was going to be about pulling me out of my little bubble,

and taking me away from the me, and I, and instead focusing on others.

My goal this week is to do a series of small things for others expecting absolutely nothing

in return.

So when planning for this episode I wanted to make sure that each of my five days was

focused on not only spreading kindness in a different way, but also to a different part

of the world.

On Monday I started locally by asking myself who's one person in my life that I see every

single day.

And what is one tiny thing that I can do for them to make their day just a little bit better.

And this question led me straight to Tony.

Goodmorning, Lobby Tony speaking.

Tony works in the lobby of Refinery29's office building and he is the world's best building

facilitator.

He knows everybody's name and no matter what day of the week it is, what the weather looks

like outside, or what is going on in the world, he will greet you with a smile.

How was your weekend?

Very nice, yours?

Great.

Kind of quick, but we make the best of it.

Isn't always like that?

Yeah.

You know what I meant to ask you,

Yeah.

Do you know everybody's name and the whole building?

I would say like 99 percent, I am not going to say 100%.

How do you do it?

I am good with names.

What's up Fred, morning, how are you?

Hey buddy.

Good morning how are you?

Good and you?

See you know everyone!

Yeah.

When I'm running out to get lunch and Tony has to stay stationed at his position in the

lobby, how easy is it for me to just grab him lunch.

Thankfully from chatting with Tony in the past, I was already well acquainted with his

favorite type of food.

So when I was out for my lunch break I went to his favorite spot, and I got him a Greek

salad, a drink, and a little surprise for desert.

And

And.

I hope you like it, baklava.

I love it.

This is my treat for later.

I could see how grateful he was just from the smile he gave me, and it made me realize

that this tiny action of mine, something that honestly did not take that much time out of

my day was able to make someone else's day so much brighter.

On Monday my random act of kindness involves spending a little bit of money on someone

else to make their life easier.

And that's a very simple thing that you can do for someone in a number of ways.

But something it's important to keep in mind is that not everyone has the means of spreading

kindness by purchasing things.

And that's totally okay because most acts of kindness don't require you to spend a single

cent.

When you think about doing random acts of kindness.

I bet your head naturally gravitates towards doing kind things for other people.

Right?

But don't forget that you can also do kind things for your planet, and for the creatures

that live on it.

Tuesday was fully focused on doing a random act of kindness for the world and the environment.

I woke up bright and early, I rode the subway down to Coney Island and I spent a few hours

picking up trash on the boardwalk and the beach.

I put on a pair of those disposable gloves and I brought one of those garbage grabbers

and I just started collecting garbage that I found on the ground.

A Refinery29 article that I found sites that 80% of marine pollution comes from land based

activities, and plastic trash often finds its way back into the ocean.

This is not only damaging for the environment, but it's also incredibly harmful for animals

that either wind up eating this trash or worse getting tangled up in plastic debris and dying

because of it.

Hostess.

One great way to help out the situation and to do a little act of kindness every day is

switch out all plastic straws, and instead use either paper straws reusable straws or

just no straws at all.

You can also go entirely zero waste like I did in a previous five day challenge.

But if you don't want to do that, then picking up garbage whenever you see it is a great

way to help too.

Bottle caps, cups, cans, plastic wrappers, straws.

I even found a sock and some boxers.

Which I set aside separately for clothing recycling.

It's actually somebody's bathing suit.

Somebody is skinny dipping right now and I just stole their suit.

This was one of the most fulfilling mornings that I've had in awhile.

Basically my cameraman Andrew and I got to go to one of the coolest areas of the city.

Spend a little bit of time hanging out on the beach and doing something good for our

planet and the animals.

And then when we were done working we got to ride on the Coney Island Cyclone.

This day was so great that I'm challenging you guys to do this exact same thing.

Pick any weekend morning, get together with some friends go to a local beach, or a park,

and pick up trash together and then just spend the rest of the day hanging out and relaxing.

I think that one of the nicest things a person can do is bring a smile to a stranger's face.

I'm so grateful to have this job because it connects me to all of you out there.

People from all over the world that I talk to pretty much every single day online.

But I've noticed recently that sometimes talking to people online and connecting via the Internet

can feel a little bit superficial.

And not really all that special.

So on Wednesday I ask myself how can I thank some of my fans.

These people from all over the world that watch all my videos and leave me nice comments

on Instagram all the time.

How can I thank them in a way that's a little bit more personal than just sending them a

DM on Instagram, or writing them an email.

So I made a post on my Instagram asking my followers that wanted to receive a personalized

postcard from me to send me a private message with their addresses.

And I received the addresses from over fifteen hundred people from every corner of this planet.

I went out and I got tons of New York City themed postcards and I just started writing.

I truly, truly, truly wanted to send a postcard to everybody but that just wasn't feasible.

I had to narrow down a little bit so I went through and I selected people that lived in

very diverse areas of the world.

I had a list of some of the places where these postcards went and I'm just going to read

you a few.

Hi Lucie thank you so much for the postcard and the stickers.

I'm so happy, so, so happy right now.

Thank you so much Lucie you're the best.

Many of these people have been supporting me on my career journey for over three years

so sending them a postcard is the least I can do.

Thursday was all about doing something sweet for my work community.

I've been working at Refinery29 for almost three years now and it really is amazing how

your co-workers start to feel like family here.

Depending on what type of job you have and what kind of office environment you work in.

You could potentially be spending more time at work than you are at home.

So having colleagues around you that respect one another and that feel like friends is

truly invaluable.

At R29, we're on a mission to help women around the world feel, see, and claim their power.

And working daily towards such a powerful goal really does bring us together.

As a token of my gratitude and just to tell my coworkers how much I love them.

I decided to bring them a little sweet treat on Thursday.

I first considered just buying pizza and setting it out for everyone.

But then I asked myself what's one step of kindness above buying something.

And of course the answer is making something.

I went to Dough, Mmy favorite doughnut shop in New York City.

And I went behind the scenes to their open kitchen to make some fresh donuts for my team.

I went through the entire doughnut making process.

first flattening the dough, which by the way is made with a secret formula that they did

not share with me.

Next hand cutting the doughnuts into circles and punching out the doughnut holes.

And then after a two step proofing process frying the doughnuts gently to perfection,

hand dipping them into various flavors, and adding toppings.

As I was in there I realized "Wow I'm here shooting an episode of Try Living With Lucie,

but this is so meant to be a Lucie For Hire as a donut maker.

So comment below if you want to see that Lucie For Hire Episode.

I made 18 giant donuts and I mean giant like the size of my face.

I brought them back to Refinery29 and I sent out a mass email to the videos department.

Seeing everyone flood over for an afternoon snack with giant smiles on their face was

exactly what I was hoping to see.

Hibiscus, blood orange, lemon pie.

And speaking of community, especially when it comes to food, there are so many ways that

you can help out people who are actually in need of food.

For this entire week I've been taking leftovers and extra food to go every single time I eat

out, and I've been giving it to the homeless, and to hungry people on the streets, and on

the subways.

And I actually didn't film any of these moments because I really didn't want to exploit the

homeless people by putting them in this video.

But it's the action that counts.

So when it comes to doing random acts of kindness.

It's not about sharing that you're doing it with others it's just about doing it.

According to an R29 article being nice actually comes along with some health benefits.

You'll feel happier, your heart will be healthier, and you might even be less stressed in your

daily life.

For my final day of this challenge I ask myself "What's one part of the world that needs

the most kindness right now?"

And the answer was simple.

You're looking at, the Internet.

I love the internet and particularly YouTube for so many reasons.

It's honestly how I built my career and how I've been able to connect with so many people

from around the globe.

But the Internet can also be filled with a lot of darkness.

When many people go to post online.

They feel very empowered because they're hidden behind a computer screen.

So they're not afraid to write nasty or negative things that they most likely wouldn't say

to a person's face.

I truly think that everyone that's building a YouTube audience should be applauded for

being unafraid to put themselves out there, because it's really not an easy thing to do.

What's up, welcome back to my channel.

If you never been to this channel before, my name is Julia.

I found some up and coming YouTubers actually by looking through the Refinery29 comments

section.

I love creating videos.

I watched some of the videos that they worked so hard.

And Friday's random act of kindness was all about sprinkling a little bit of love on some

of these channels.

There's so much power and positivity and sometimes just receiving one positive comment can push

someone who was about to stop to keep moving and to keep creating.

So now I encourage all of you to try Five Days of Random Acts of Kindness.

Write them down in your bullet journal.

Write them on an Instagram post and tag me in it or just do it and don't write it anywhere.

And don't tell anyone.

There are millions of ways that you can try this challenge for yourself and spread some

kindness even without spending any money.

Everything from giving out a compliment, to babysitting for a friend for free, to leaving

encouraging notes in random places on public transportation.

When it comes to random acts of kindness, there is no right or wrong and there is certainly

no act that's too small.

Comment below to let me know what you want to see me try next time, we'll see you then.

Bye.

WHERE'S THE 'EXTREME'?! - AVerMedia Live Gamer Extreme 2 Review (GC551) - Duration: 8:28.

If you're looking for a capture card that lets you play in 4K but only capture or stream

1080p or lower, the Live Gamer Extreme 2 might be the card for you.

The Extreme 2, or the GC551 is a bit of a weird entry in their 4K passthrough card lineup,

and I'm honestly not a fan.

But let's discuss it after a word from our sponsor…

Upgrade your video security system today to the Lorex 4K Color Night Vision Security Cameras.

This system has upgradable storage space, support for up to 8 cameras, 200 foot color

night vision and beautiful 4K video.

No more blurry, useless security footage, Lorex's system has your home or business covered.

You can even monitor from your smartphone!

Learn more with our partner link in the video description.

Of the three new capture cards released this week by AVerMedia, the Live Gamer Extreme

2 is by far the weakest offering.

I was hoping to release my review of the Live Gamer Ultra today instead, or maybe combine

them both into one video - BUT I ran into problems with the Ultra, so you get this today.

Other than my dislike for RECentral 2 at the time, I really liked the original Live Gamer

Extreme from 2015.

It offered low-latency 1080p60 capture and passthrough via USB 3.0 and even had an analog

breakout connection for capturing PS3 or other older consoles.

It had all of the I/O in the back so it could actually sit on a desk - unlike MOST capture

cards - and had a window flap where you could print your own faceplate for it.

Neat.

It was well-rounded and allowed for capture of most game consoles all in one device - unlike

Elgato's HD60.

But the Live Gamer Extreme 2….

Is not as impressive.

It features an identical design to the first - which is great, the design served its purpose

- but cut out the analog inputs.

Yeah, I get it, "get with the times" is what most product-focused companies want to

say…

BUT when expensive game streaming products are already pretty niche and I'm involved

in many large communities of retro gaming enthusiasts that have to resort to adapting

absurd old broadcast equipment or buying even more expensive purpose-built upscaler units

to get good captures of older game consoles, this always annoys me.

Instead, we just get two HDMI 2.0 ports for in and out.

And instead of micro USB 3.0, we now get USB 3.1 gen 1 type C - though they call it USB

3.0 everywhere, and for good reason.

Since this isn't a UVC device like the Live Gamer Ultra, it's limited to Windows and

doesn't seem to actually work with USB C ports nor USB 3.1 gen 2 type A ports.

It receives power, passes through the feed, and RECentral even knows it's plugged in

SOMETIMES and just shows a black screen instead of "No Signal", but the feed is never

accessible.

Perhaps gen 2 drivers are more complicated and this is something AVerMedia can fix in

their driver updates, but I always get frustrated when devices have USB C ports for one end,

but don't work with actual PC-side USB C ports.

So what CAN this card do?

Simple: The Extreme 2 lets you play your games in up to 4k 60fps via passthrough, and then

capture or stream at 1080p 60fps or lower.

Many people have been requesting this for a while - no interest in making 4k content

or HDR or anything like that - just send 4K and capture 1080p60.

This card will do that, and does it well.

And theoretically you're getting a sharper 1080p file as a result thanks to the downscaling

factor - though YouTube's harsh 1080p compression will destroy that anyway, though you could

probably upscale the footage to 1440p or back to 4k with decent results on YouTube if you

recorded to a high enough bitrate.

It's worth noting, too, that the results from this card are going to be drastically

better than what you'd get with the Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus that I reviewed last

year.

I've never been happy with the video quality of the Portable devices other than as a "I

really need to record to SD card right now" solution, so if you weren't happy with the

USB 2.0 limited compression, this might be a good solution.

But that's… it, really.

No HDR support other than passthrough.

It will passthrough the HDR signal but then the actual capture feed cuts out and goes

to "No Signal."

No HDR capture not tonemapping like the other devices.

No high refresh rate support, either.

60hz or bust with this bad boy.

It can record high bitrates in RECentral - or whatever you want via uncompressed access

in OBS Studio - though it initially suffered from the Nvidia encoder bug in RECentral.

So make sure your software is up to date if you plan on using that.

I cover this more in my Live Gamer 4K review.

If you're on a laptop, a 4th generation i7 and a Nvidia 870M graphics card are recommended

as minimum specs to get decent recording out of it.

I've found that laptop CPUs just can't keep up with 1080p60 encoding even on the

higher end - you need a discrete graphics card backing it up.

This card also does not work with Linux.

Windows only for now.

It is low-latency so integrating into stream setups will not be a problem - but again,

does not feel low-latency enough for me to play off of the preview.

Unlike the other cards, you only get the YUY2 decode format - which is better than NV12,

but no RGB mode for those of you who want maximum placebo video quality.

For $200, this capture device just feels… weird.

Unlike its previous iteration, or the other cards in this release cycle, there's no

stand-out feature for the Live Gamer Extreme 2.

It's basic, but feels pricey to release for only $100 less than their full 4k60 HDR

capture option.

But then again, Elgato hasn't released a 4K passthrough USB card yet, so maybe it's

not too bad.

I dunno, was just pretty bummed that this card didn't really offer anything special.

But I guess if you're buying a basic capture card today and can fund it, the Live Gamer

Extreme 2 would be the one to go with if you want to have the future-proof-ish option of

passing through 4K signals.

As covered better in my Live Gamer 4K review, RECentral 4 is a great capture and streaming

software that allows for direct capture, screenshotting, and also live streaming with multiple scenes

and sources and even multi-streaming.

I'll hopefully have a deeper dive on the software coming in its own video later in

July.

Is this the capture card you're looking for?

Or do you prefer the flashier features of the Ultra or 4K devices?

How Failure Can Pay You In Real Estate - Duration: 7:26.

Hey, friends. Kris Krohn here and today on Limitless TV, I'm gonna be talking

specifically with you about the ultimate mindset you need to win in real estate

because you're going to fail but it's not what you think it is. In fact, every

failure pays you a lot of money.

So how does every failure actually pay you in real estate? Well, here's what I

want to share with you..Real estate to some extent is a numbers game and if you

don't know what that really means, it means that sometimes you win and

sometimes you get the deal and sometimes you don't and more often than not, you

don't. In fact, to get the very best deals, you've got to wade through a lot of okay

deals, good deals, sometimes even amazing deals to get the

very best deals like literally this last month, I closed on the best real estate

deal of my life and I look at it and the reality is I've done over 3,000

transactions all across the United States and it's I've been doing it for

15 years and I just found the best deal of my life, like this is a seven-figure

cash cow, it's absolutely amazing. Someone could argue that I had to wade

through 15 years, 3,000 deals, maybe hundreds of thousands of deals I didn't

do to get to like the juiciest deal that I've ever wanted to do, right? So let's

back out of it for just a moment and actually talk about the definition of

success and failure. Society has trained you to feel ashamed

of your failures, society has trained you to feel bad about yourself and tell you

that you're not good enough and you know what? That just comes from childhood

because we're trying lots of things and they're not always working out but now

we're adults, even if you're 17 years old, you're an adult and listen up. Whether

you're 17 or whether you're 60 years old, the reality is is that you're gonna do

things that aren't gonna work out but it's not failure, those are necessary

moments that actually bring you forward. Let me give you simple math.. Say for a

moment that you had to actually look at 10 amazing deals but only one of them

would end up going and that deal would make you a hundred thousand dollars. You

have to look at ten deals and the deal that's gonna work is gonna make you a

hundred grand. I've done deals like that I've made over a hundred thousand

dollars on houses. I want to ask you.. Would you be willing to fail nine times,

face potential rejection or face discouragement nine times to actually

find the one deal that makes you a hundred grand? Would you do it? Okay, that

I think I heard a yes through the camera. Awesome. I hope so because guess what,

you're probably sitting there saying that that reward is totally worth it I

totally want to make the hundred grand so this is what I want to share with you.

Here's what a numbers game means. Your first deal might be the deal that what?

Makes you hundred grand. The tenth deal might be the deal that what? Makes you a

hundred thousand dollars, it could be any one of the deals but here's the way that

most people are trained and here's what I want you to change is that if your

first deal doesn't go down, you could be like oh, I thought that it was the one

and then it didn't work out, the bank rejected me, the buyer wouldn't sell to

me at the price I wanted, I didn't get things lined up the way that I wanted,

the bank told me they wouldn't use my credit, I failed. Let's actually find out

what that failure is. If on the tenth deal you do it you make 100 grand, divide

$100,000 by your ten attempts with one of them being successful. What's a hundred

grand divided by ten attempts ? Hundred grand divided by ten is $10,000.

Dude, that first deal that ended up being a rejection, by the time I actually get

to the deal that actually works, what was this rejection worth ? Is worth

$10,000. Guess what the next one doesn't work out? You could be tempted to be like,

oh, nothing goes my way. Are you kidding me? You just made $10,000, it's

not in your bank account yet but what should you be doing? Yeah, you should be

freaking celebrating, right? Because you just freaking make $10,000. I don't know

about you but when you're just starting out $10,000 is what? Dude, $1,000 is

exciting, 10 grand is exciting, $1,000,000. It's all exciting because it's all

progress. There is no failure. Are you freaking kidding me? All you did was have

someone tell you that that wasn't the deal . Be grateful, you didn't want to do

it anyway. It's not the deal that was for you so by the way, the first deal.. 10

grand. How you feeling? Yes, fist bump. The second deal doesn't go

down, fist bump. This the third deal doesn't go down, another $10,000. This

seventh field goes down and it doesn't work out, 70 thousand dollars in my bank

account. Every rejection it's an exciting step to where you're

really trying to get friends that's the way a numbers game really works,

it's that instead of saying when I do the deal that works I'm happy and when I

do the deals that don't I'm not happy, the reason why you can't afford

unhappiness or discouragement is because guess what could happen, it could

actually keep you from what? Ever finding the deal that makes you

hundred grand. Listen, I'm telling you from experience. Right now real estate we

tie in appropriate emotion to rejection or when things don't work out, you gotta

let go all of that you got to actually get some some thicker skin here

that ultimately says I can stay in the game and I'm okay to look at deals and

when they don't go down, dude, I'm pumped because it just means that's not the

deal and now I'm looking for the right deal. Friends, this is the winning mindset

in real estate. Now if you don't cultivate i,t you're done, this is you

like seriously this isn't gonna work out for you. If you can cultivate it, there's

no limit to what you can do. Ultimately if you want to become limitless in your

ability to transact massive amounts of real estate, if you want to really

succeed in the game then you got to take the real estate between your ears and

you got a cultivate of mindset that says that every deal that's not the one pays

me so that when I get to the one that actually is the one, I get paid on all of

my efforts because guess what, that deal that didn't go down, it costs you effort

and you're eventually gonna get paid if you stay in the game. Now even in the

beginning, your first deal. Let's say you had to look at a hundred deals and then

finally did one that made you ten thousand dollars, how should you feel?

Dude, I hope you get pumped, I hope you get excited because guess what, that's

called learning curve that might be what your learning curve is. Some of us have a

steeper one, some of us have a shorter one and hang tight for the end of the

video I'll share with you what you can do to greatly shorten that learning

curve. What you need to get out of this right now is that it's a numbers game

and you're always being paid, a lot of deals don't work out, you just stick with

it until you find the one that does that makes it all worth it.

Hey, thanks so much for watching today's video, please subscribe, give yourself an

opportunity to, get some more training like this. Often my videos are here to

give you the tactical training of how to make money in real estate, the game of

finance and even alternative investments but often it's here to share with you

the mindset because the mindset is going to always precede the outcome of a

result, you need both of those trainings so subscribe so that I can keep

delivering that to you and check out everyday the videos that we're posting

here for you. Hey, if you're looking for the unfair advantage of Kris, what if I

don't want to look at a hundred deals to find the one? I already got the one. I

already anticipated you, I already knew that you somewhere in the world were

gonna be watching this and me and my team, we've already lined up the deals,

some of them take very little money some of them take no money,

some of them take more money and if you want to get in on the action, all you got

to do is hike over the website, check out the options and just request a follow up

call with my team, we'll get in touch with you, we'll share with you what the

options look like so we can get you having success now.

This was her bed, and here,

this was her nightgown.

Beautiful, isn't it?

Hold it and touch it and feel it.

It's soft and it's light.

I haven't washed it since she wore it for the last time.

She wont sleep here anymore,

But she's near all the same.

Hear the surf, it is calling her name:

Rebecca

Wherever you may be

Life sings your song as long as waves roar to the coast

Voices sigh in the air everywhere

Rebecca

Come back Rebecca

You're not meant to be a shadow of a ghost.

This is her brush.

Her hair was full and dark,

she wore satin and velvet,

she looked like a queen.

Her smile was boyish

when I saw her for the last time.

She won't smile at me anymore

but she's near all the same.

Hear the wind, it is calling her name:

Rebecca

Wherever you may be

Life sings your song as long as waves roar to the coast

Voices sigh in the air everywhere

Rebecca

Come back Rebecca

You're not meant to be a shadow of a ghost

She's near, she's here

She can see, she can hear

She's a force you should fear

Rebecca!

Wherever you may be

Voices sigh in the air everywhere

The 53 Second, 22 Dollar Shortest Flight in the World - Duration: 5:01.

This video was made possible by Hover.

Hello.

Plane rides are long except when they're short.

Some are shorter than others especially the shortest one which is the most not long.

Thank you and goodnight.

Ah damn there's four minutes left until the ad.

Let's bring out the filler.

The longest commercial flight in the world is the 9,000 mile haul from Doha, Qatar to

Auckland, New Zealand.

It takes an astronomical 17 hours in which time you could fly the world's shortest

flight 1,155 times or call Comcast customer support once.

In many cases it doesn't make sense to fly a very short distance rather than drive unless

you enjoy physical proximity to others and being asked to take your pants off but in

such a case you could just ride the New York Subway at 11:30 on a Friday night.

In most cases you have to leave for the airport at least two hours before a flight in which

time you could drive 120 miles.

For that reason, flights under that distance are as rare as a female Half as Interesting

viewer and so therefore they only really exist if there's an obstacle to driving.

The shortest commercial flight in the US, for example, is from San Francisco to Sonoma

County airport.

This flight is flown three times a day by bus company United Airlines and usually takes

only 16 minutes from takeoff in San Francisco to touchdown in Sonoma County.

At best the drive between these two places takes only an hour and fifteen minutes but

at worst the heat death of the universe happens and you never make it.

The flight costs a minimum of $354 one way which are prices high enough that you'd

think these planes would fly empty.

United Airlines has, though, with its 92 years of experience learned that flying planes empty

is bad for business.

The secret of this flight is that it isn't made for traveling between San Francisco and

Sonoma County, it's made for people coming from the rest of the country then connecting

onto this flight.

United actually prices a one-way flight from New York to Sonoma County via San Francisco

for only $169.

In that case, if you have a 45 minute connection then the 16 minute flight, it's far quicker

than leaving the airport, getting a rental car, and driving through San Francisco to

Sonoma County.

Now that's enough talk of United.

I want this video to take off and United's just not very good at that.

While the Sonoma County flight is short, it's longer than 7 feet.

It's also longer than the world's shortest flight.

All the world's shortest flights are to or from islands as cars don't work well

on water, boats are slow, and so even the shortest flights to islands make sense.

Scotland is a country, kind of, that has loads of islands—790 to be exact.

Many of the more inhabited islands have flights connecting them to the two largest Scottish

cities—Edinburgh and Glasgow.

There are some pretty unique ones worth mentioning like the one from Glasgow to Barra Airport.

This flight flies 140 miles so its short though not excessively short.

More than any other airport, pilots have reported that Barra Airport is a beach to land at.

As in, its difficult but also that its runway is just a beach.

It has a terminal and everything, but its the only commercial airport in the world where

planes land on the beach and, of course, the runway only exists for a few hours per day

as the planes can only land at low tide.

But this is all beside the point because elsewhere in Scotland is the actual shortest commercial

flight in the world.

The Orkney Islands lay north of mainland Scotland and are home to about 21,000 people.

They're a relatively unknown bit of the UK despite being inhabited for over 8,500

years.

The population of the Orkneys is well spread out across the islands and some of the more

isolated ones like Papa Westray have only 90 residents and no more than one small store.

For healthcare and, in many cases, school, people have to go to capital of the Orkneys—Kirkwall.

There are boats to there but the fastest option to get between the islands is a rocket.

Barring that, the number two option is by plane.

On Mondays, for example, a plane leaves Kirkwall at 8:40 am then 13 minutes later, after traveling

27 miles, it touches down in Westray.

Soon after at 9:01, it takes off on what is the shortest commercial flight in the world.

The destination airport, Papa Westray, is a mere 1.5 miles away across a narrow body

of water so this flight takes as little as 53 seconds and crosses a distance shorter

than a typical airport runway definitively making it the shortest flight in the world.

Now, granted, this short flight exists so that passengers from both Westray and Papa

Westray can travel to Kirkwall on the same plane so most people don't just fly between

these two islands but if they did wanted to they could.

At £17 or $22, the ticket is cheaper than an Apache Attack Helicopter, but this flight

costs about $15 per mile which is more per mile than it costs to fly from New York to

London in first class.

Now, if you find yourself in Westray with $22, you have a choice—you could use it

to fly to Papa Westray or you could use it to purchase the domain that is used to launch

your billion or trillion or dozen dollar company.

If you have a potential business name you want to use in the future, it's worth purchasing

the domain now before its gone.

Hover is the best place to buy your domain because they have a fantastic customer support

team, fair pricing, and over 400 domain extensions that help you create a memorable domain.

Also, even if you don't need a website, you can use Hover to set up a completely custom

This Is What Happens To Your Body When You Quit Smoking Tobacco - Duration: 6:16.

According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, smoking causes nearly 6 million

deaths around the world each year, and current trends show that tobacco use will be responsible

for more than 8 million deaths annually by 2030.

It is the leading cause of preventable death in America, and as many as 16 million people

are living with a disease caused by smoking, including cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung

disease, and diabetes.

So what if you quit the habit?

How reversible are these risks?

That's what we'll be exploring today, in this episode of The Infographics Show:

What Happens To Your Body When You Stop Smoking?

Apart from that fact it's bad for your health, there are many other reasons to quit smoking.

It's expensive, it makes your hair and clothes stink, and in many places in the world, it's

considered unsociable with bans in bars and restaurants meaning you'll need to leave

the crowd and head outside for a puff.

There are plenty of plusses to kicking the habit, but what will the health results be?

Let's take a look at how your body will change as time passes once you've quit smoking…

20 Minutes – In less time than it takes to commute to work, your body will already

be fixing itself.

20 minutes after the last cigarette is stubbed out, your pulse and blood pressure start to

drop back to normal, circulation will start to improve, and your hands and feet will warm

to their usual temperature.

12 Hours - Cigarettes contain a lot of known toxins including a harmful gas, carbon monoxide.

This gas can be fatal in high doses, as it prevents oxygen from entering the lungs and

blood.

At 12 hours, halfway through your first day, your carbon monoxide level is back to normal,

which is great for your heart, as it doesn't have to pump as hard to get enough oxygen

to your body.

Unfortunately though, it's at this point you'll be feeling the withdrawal and cravings.

A couple of ways to fight these feelings are by chewing gum or sipping water.

24 Hours – Well done, you've hit the one day mark!

And the good news is that after just 24 hours, a person's blood pressure begins to drop,

decreasing the risk of heart disease, and blood clots that can lead to stroke.

If you smoke a pack a day, you're twice as likely to have a heart attack as a nonsmoker,

and that risk has already been reduced considerably after just 24 hours.

And with oxygen levels on the rise, physical activity and exercise will already feel easier.

48 Hours – 2 days in is a good time for a tasty snack.

Smoking damages the nerve endings which decreases your ability to smell and taste properly,

and after only 48 hours, your senses will get sharper as nerve endings begin to heal.

Your body will also enter a detoxification phase, with your lungs kicking out mucus left

from cigarettes.

The downside is that this is when the toughest withdrawal symptoms show up.

If you were a heavy smoker, you might feel dizzy, anxious, or tired.

And you may also crave more food than usual.

3 Days – After 3 days, the nicotine levels in a person's body are depleted.

Ridding the body of nicotine leaves a person much healthier, but initially this also adds

to the effects of withdrawal.

At the 3 day mark, many people will become moody and irritable, experiencing severe headaches

and cravings, as the body readjusts.

On the positive side, energy levels will increase and you will breathe more easily.

During the first 3 Months – This is when the major improvements start.

After a couple of weeks, the cravings will subside and the chance of going back to the

habit, is far less likely.

Your lungs become stronger and clearer, and your blood flow has greatly improved.

You can exercise without huffing and puffing so much, and the risk of a heart attack goes

down even more.

9 Months – 9 months after quitting, there will be major physical changes and improvements

in the body.

The lungs have significantly healed themselves.

The delicate, hair-like structures inside the lungs known as cilia, which help to fight

infections, will have recovered from the toll of cigarette smoke.

Around this time, many former smokers notice a decrease in the frequency of lung infections

because the healed cilia can do their job more easily.

You'll also be able to take deeper breaths, and energy levels will be a lot higher and

back to normal.

1 Year – A big milestone with the habit in the distant past.

Time to celebrate the achievement.

The risk of heart disease has decreased by half and will continue to drop beyond this

1-year mark.

5 Years – After 5 years without smoking, the body has healed itself so that the arteries

and blood vessels begin to widen again.

This means blood is less likely to clot which lowers the risk of stroke, to the same level

as a nonsmoker.

And compared to when you first quit, you're half as likely to get cancer of the mouth,

throat, esophagus, or bladder.

10 Years - Lung cancer is one of the greatest risks a smoker faces and after 10 years, a

person's chances of developing lung cancer and dying from it are about half compared

to a smoker.

15 Years – And finally, after 15 years of not smoking, the chances that you'll get

heart disease are the same as if you never smoked at all.

Your body has done a huge amount of recovery and healing, rejuvenating the tissue and cells.

From the first few weeks of headaches and discomfort, to a fully healed body…a long

path but the rewards are very real and clear.

There's no real argument to be made for continuing to smoke.

As well as the changes to your health, your immune system will also improve, your hair

may become thicker and fuller, and your skin will age less quickly.

But of course, it's never easy, particularly during the first few days and weeks.

If you're quitting and need support and are based in the US, you can always call the

National Cancer Institute's quitline on 877-44U-QUIT.

So, have you quit smoking?

If so, how did you manage to do it and has your health improved?

Let us know in the comments!

Also be sure to check out our other video, What If You Only Drank Coke and Nothing Else?!

Thanks for watching and as always don't forget to like, share and subscribe.

See you next time!

Inside the fight against Russia's fake news empire | Olga Yurkova - Duration: 5:17.

2014, July 5,

the Ukrainian army entered Sloviansk city in eastern Ukraine.

They gathered all the locals in Lenin Square.

Then, they organized the public crucifixion

of the son of a pro-Russia militant.

He was only three years old.

Refugee Galina Pyshnyak told this story to Russia's First TV channel.

In fact, this incident never happened.

I visited Sloviansk.

There is no Lenin Square.

In reality, Galina's husband was an active pro-Russia militant in Donbass.

This is just one of many examples.

Ukraine has been suffering from Russian propaganda and fake news

for four years now,

but Russia is not the only player in this space.

Fake news is happening all around the world.

We all know about fake news.

We see it and read it all the time.

But the thing about fake news

is that we don't always know what is fake and what is real,

but we base our decisions on facts we get from the press and social media.

When facts are false,

decisions are wrong.

A lot of people stop believing anyone at all

and this is even more dangerous.

They easily become prey to populists in elections,

or even take up arms.

Fake news is not only bad for journalism.

It's a threat for democracy and society.

Four years ago, unmarked soldiers

entered the Crimean Peninsula,

and at the same time,

Russian media was going crazy with fake news about Ukraine.

So a group of journalists, including me,

started a website to investigate this fake news.

We called it StopFake.

The idea was simple:

take a piece of news, check it with verifiable proof

like photos, videos and other strong evidence.

If it turns out to be fake, we put it on our website.

Now, StopFake is an informational hub

which analyzes propaganda in all its phases.

We have 11 language versions, we have millions of views,

We have taught more than 10,000 people

how to distinguish true from false.

And we teach fact checkers all around the world.

StopFake has uncovered more than 1,000 fakes about Ukraine.

We've identified 18 narratives

created using this fake news,

such as Ukraine is a fascist state,

a failed state,

a state run by a junta who came to power as a result of a coup d'état.

We proved that it's not bad journalism;

it's a deliberate act of misinformation.

Fake news is a powerful weapon in information warfare,

but there is something we can do about it.

We all have smartphones.

When we see something interesting, it's often automatic.

We just click and pass it along.

But how can you not be a part of fake news?

First, if it's too dramatic, too emotional, too clickbait,

then it's very likely that it isn't true.

The truth is boring sometimes.

(Laughter)

Manipulations are always sexy.

They are designed to captivate you.

Do your research.

This is the second point, very simple.

Look at other sites.

Check out alternative news sources.

Google names, addresses, license plates, experts and offers.

Don't just believe, check.

It's the only way to stop this culture of fake news.

This information warfare is not only about fake news.

Our society depends on trust:

trust in our institutions,

in science,

trust in our leaders,

trust in our news outlets.

And it's on us to find a way to rebuild trust,

because fake news destroys it.

So ask yourself,

what have you lost your faith in?

Where has trust been ruined for you?

And what are you going to do about it?

Thank you.

(Applause)

Why some speakers can't understand speakers who understand them - Asymmetric Intelligibility - Duration: 8:32.

If you and I both speak the same language, we can communicate. If we don't, we can't.

Right?

Except consider this documentary where they interviewed someone in the Sea Islands off

Georgia. He says ever since radio and TV came to town, our way of speaking just became more

and more American. Now we sound like them, they sound like us. Just one problem: this

interview has subtitles because America, this Gullah speaker understands you perfectly,

but it's not so easy to go the other way.

See, sometimes when languages come together they create this really odd situation, where

it's easy enough for one person to communicate one way but it's much harder in reverse.

Today I want to get animated about that. Including one time I noticed it myself and, even better,

three countries full of people where this kind of asymmetric intelligibility is normal.

Do I finally get to use this one? I've been sitting on it for a year. It felt like such

a NativLang moment. So I'm in the store, standing in line with a handbasket full of what my

friend Javier calls my rabbit food. I'm agonizing over whether or not to put back the nuts.

They were on the pricey side for what you're paying me these days. Enter a fashionable

woman. She glides over to the fancy tea-juice-potion section, the one that's for the $8+ crowd,

not the 5.99 uh that's a little pricey for nuts crowd.

Seconds later, I swear out of nowhere - phwooh - one of the employees is right next to her

unboxing stuff. I hear the eagerness in his voice when he asks, "you need help finding

anything?" She turns and sounds come out of her mouth but no words. Wait, no. She's speaking

Italian! Our selfless helper doesn't flinch. He switches from English on the spot. No momentum

lost. The two exchange a bit of banter, he shows her down an aisle and their voices fade

into the store.

There's something I forgot to mention though, and it's why the moment stuck with me. When

the employee switched, he spoke Spanish... y español con acento caribeño, which I find

quite lovely. Two languages were crossing paths but in a lopsided way. He was clearly

having an easier time helping her than the other way around.

Why? Well, we could come up with reasons. He's eager to help. Maybe he's heard Italian

before. Maybe he's used to juggling languages. In short, motive and opportunity. But one

more factor can come into play in situations like this: the languages themselves.

To see how, let's visit a place where this kind of communication happens every day. This

frozen-looking area at the top of Europe is home to a bunch of languages plus a ton of

dialects, but focus on the Scandinavian "North Germanic" languages: Swedish, Norwegian, Danish.

For most of us, understanding another language takes study and time. But Scandinavians are

lucky. Their languages are close enough that they can go next door and mostly communicate,

semi-communication style! It's like a triangle. A beautiful triangle of understanding. This

is mutual intelligibility, and it is glorious.

But the triangle isn't evenly balanced. I hear it's much harder to semicommunicate in

Swedish and Danish than it is in Swedish and Norwegian.

And it gets even more unequal in each pair. If you're Danish, Swedish is easier for you

than if you're a Swede hearing Danish. So unfair! It's "asymmetric intelligibility".

Wow, that's a lot of syllables.

We could try to boil this down to, like I said before, motive and opportunity. But what

if it's not the people but the languages themselves that are creating Scandinavia's asymmetry?

How could we tell? Well, the languages are close enough that their grammar and, mostly,

vocabulary don't change much from tongue to tongue. The big difference is in how they

get pronounced. So here how a Swede says Copenhagen: Köpenhamn. Now here's a Dane: København.

Smart people decided to measure this difference with the Levenshtein distance. I'm not your

math teacher or your math channel, but here's the function if you really want to play with it,

in its recursive glory. I'll honestly be doing the same, so we can nerd together. Solidarity.

The results estimate what it takes to transform one word into another, so how far apart cognates

should sound. Danish cognates should be more distant from Swedish than the way Norwegians

say them. Swedish and Danish should be extremes, and Norwegian should settle down

right in the middle.

One of those authors teamed up for another study hoping to do even better using entropy.

Again, not your math teacher here. That's my mom's job, and she rocks at it. Basically,

model the uncertainty Scandinavians feel when they're semicommunicating

and guessing at sounds.

An example. Danish grammatical endings can only have one vowel in them. But their Swedish

cognates can have three. This creates uncertainty for Swedes listening to Danish. So, using

conditional entropy, just how uncertain is Swedish given Danish? How intelligible is

that intelligibility?

Calculating with a bunch of cognates, it looks like Danish to Swedish should be more complicated,

higher conditional entropy, than Swedish to Danish. Swedish and Norwegian are lower, but

we expect more of a challenge going from Norwegian to Swedish than the other way. Denmark should

understand Norway better than vice versa. Really, Danes should get everyone better than

they get the Danes.

Danish does have a reputation for being the tricky one. We could do a whole animated tangent

on Danish's very evolved sounds, but, here, one more time: kʰøb̥m̩ˈhɑʊ̯ˀn.

Enough said.

So now we have numbers guessing what intelligibility should be. What happens if we invite real

speakers in for a real test? Ask Scandinavians who use one of the languages at home to listen

to a reading in another language, then quiz them. How well did they understand? Did high

entropy predict low intelligibility?

Let's see. Danes have an easier time understanding Swedes than vice versa. Check! Norwegians

and Swedes understand each other better. Perfect! Except, wait... why are Norwegian speakers

having such an easy time with Danish? I'm reading that right? Yeah. Danish should be

hard for Norwegians, but these results makes it look like Norwegians understand everything

better than everyone.

Hhh, why? Well, researchers speculate. I'll have to leave it a mystery this time, but

the reasons probably bring us back to motive and opportunity.

These three factors make asymmetric intelligibility happen not just in Scandinavia but around

the world. Written Estonian looks more like Finnish to Finns than written Finnish does

to Estonians. Lao and Thai are close, but you Lao speakers out there have a leg up,

possibly thanks to Thai soap operas and magazines. Jamaican Patwah speakers understand English,

but the reverse is notoriously vexing. And my amazing patrons pointed out Québec French

for Parisians, Romanian for Italians and Spanish for many kids in the US.

So the next time you can't understand someone who understands you, it might be because they're

motivated. Maybe they want to help a well-dressed Italian. It could be exposure: they've met

your words before, like Gullah. But, most intriguing of all, it may be because something

about your language tilts the odds in their favor.

Just because you don't understand someone, it's no guarantee they can't understand you.

Sadhguru - Why we are on this planet? By accident or by design of super power? - Duration: 10:04.

Questioner: Only one question Guruji.

We the human beings in the Earth, are by chance or by choice of God or any super

power?

Sadhguru: Why we are on this planet? (Laughter) Questioner: By accident or by design of super

power?

Sadhguru: I think even the planet is wondering why the hell these human beings came here.

(Laughter) See,

the solar system, the way it is and so as the other universal systems,

the galaxies, they are all happening

because they arrive at a certain perfection of geometry.

Geometry, in the sense – right now, this planet is going around the

sun.

It's found its perfect orbit.

So it's going and going and going, not powered by engine or something.

See, the airplane is going powered by engines, it's being pushed.

This is not being pushed.

This has just found a certain perfection of geometry

and it's going on.

The day it loses its perfection of geometry, if it loses the line of orbit, it's gone.

So in this process, life happens on this planet also involving

this geometry, on various levels.

We say in the yogic culture, we say a human being is physiologically

and in terms of brain, has reached his peak physiologically,

that is after million years you will not have a horn coming out of your

head or something else like the tail disappeared, something else

will disappear, this cannot happen.

We are saying this from a certain context.

Today, the modern neuroscientists are saying similar things.

They are saying the size of the neuron in the human brain

can neither increase, nor can the wiring inside can increase

because the physical laws don't permit it.

The laws of physics do not permit it.

I will not go into the detail of that.

To put it very simply, how we see it is,

your birth here – right now, all life on this planet is solar powered,

isn't it?

Yes?

It is the sun's energy which is doing all this.

Human... and also the... the revolutions and the rotations of the moon

also has influence upon us.

The very ocean is rising and falling with the movement of the moon.

Only because our mothers' bodies were in tune with the cycle of the moon,

we are born and we are here.

Yes?

If these twenty eight days cycle of the moon does not repeat itself in a woman's body,

you and me wouldn't be born.

So because it has reached that, we say, physical... the physical laws have come to

a certain place where life upon this planet, cannot evolve

further.

You can make use of what you have in a much better way.

Using the same technology, we had a dumb phone,

then we had a smart phone now we have iphone, like this we can go on improving it, how we

use it.

But the fundamental physical laws will not permit any further evolution of this creature.

So did it happen by accident?

No.

The Theory of Evolution – you know Charles Darwin,

who made a monkey out of you?

(Laughs) Not me, him.

If you look at the Theory of Evolution which was propounded just hundred and fifty

years ago, we have said this thousands of years ago,

in the sense, you know the ten avataras?

At least the nine you know those who have come.

What is the first one?

MatsyaAvatara.

MatsyaAvatara means fish or water life.

All life on this planet started under water.

What is the next Avatara?

KoormaAvatara amphibious like a turtle, half in the water,

half on the land.

The next one is VarahaAvatara a pig or a wild boar.

Among the mammals, one animal which is strongly, strongly rooted in its body is a

wild boar.

See, we live next to the forest, we see this – the tribal boys can kill a

deer with a stick.

If you hit it with a stick it will fall dead.

The local dogs will hunt the deer but a wild boar you try to kill him and see,

it's not easy to kill him.

You go smash him with the car, his spine is broken, still he will go.

He will not stop because he is so physically rooted.

His life is so physical.

So the next form of life was VarahaAvatara.

This simply means the Creator is finding expression in first as fish,

then as a turtle, then as a wild boar.

Next one is Narasimha, half man, half animal.

Next one is Vamana a dwarfed man.

Next one is a full grown man but emotionally volatile man who is Parasurama.

Next one is a peaceful man which is Rama.

Next is a loving man, which is a Krishna.

Next is a meditative man which is a Buddha.

The next is supposed to be a mystical being, yet to come,

okay.

This is running very much in parallel lines with the Darwin's Theory of Evolution.

Yes or no?

It's in the same sequence, exactly in the same sequence.

Darwin propounded his theory only hundred and fifty years ago,

this was said twelve to fifteen thousand years ago,

Adiyogi himself spoke about it.

So if you observe life, you can clearly see from what is inanimate,

basic life formed from that life evolved, we've always seen it that way.

Always we saw, life evolved.

Constantly we are – in every temple you go,

there is a snake, there are various symbolisms all around the

place because even today in your brain,

one part of your brain is a reptilian brain.

You know, the core part of your brain is still a reptilian brain

and it still functions and we have different practices in yoga as

to how to transcend this reptilian brain and allow the cerebral cortex to function

and today we have scientific evidence to show you

the University of California has done scientific studies on ShambhaviMahamudra,

the basic practice we teach usually and they say if you practice ShambhaviMahamudra

for three months, the neuronal regeneration increases by two

hundred and forty one percent, a kind of percentage that's never been recorded

in the history of any kind of research, okay.

Just a simple practice for twenty one minutes, two hundred and forty one percentage increase

in your brain function and neuronal regeneration,

this means as you grow old you will become more intelligent.

Usually young people think you are getting stupid.

(Few Laugh) Yes,

your brain is actually growing, you understand?

It's getting better by the day.

Now there is scientific evidence.

We always knew this, but today a meter has to say it;

if a man says it is not true.

If a man says it, it's doubtful but a meter has to say it.

Now the meters are saying it.

The meters are saying your brain is actually growing

by doing a simple twenty one minute... minute practice

and you don't believe the meter.

You just do the practice for three months and see,

you will see how clear and how smart your mind

is suddenly.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR HOME A HAVEN 🏡 SLOW DESIGN WITH MOJO HOME - Duration: 7:20.

Today's video is all about home design and optimization, with Caroline of Mojo Home.

Phase one: Greenify your home!

Caroline of Mojo Home is slow design interior decorator, and home optimization coach.

We invited her chez nous because I was feeling dissatisfied and cramped in our tiny apartment and our space was certainly blatantly unoptimized.

So, here's what we've got going here...

But you've got nice sunlight!

That's lovely. - Yeah!

So you could put more little potter plants...

Without all this, of course...

We could do a bunch of different plants.

We could fill the entire space with plants, actually.

And you could also put planters at different levels, one higher, one lower, to make it interesting.

Sounds great.

But we have to think about getting plants that work well outside, and can stand the cold.

Mayyybe it's about time to get rid of the dead stuff that we have in our planter.

And we're off to get some new (alive) plants!

(And we're taking the bus.)

Hello, Paris.

Caroline helped me pick out the best plants for each side of our apartment, and all the gear that I would need.

Look at this one!

(Who knows what he's saying here...)

Are there holes in the bottom of the pot?

Thank! -- The pleasure's all mine.

With this, you're saved.

-- Exactly. I'm saved.

Well... not entirely...

Like... ALMOST saved, with is still pretty good.

(Of course I made some friends at the flower market, too.)

Now we have new and gorgeous flowers in our window planters, and... life is beautiful.

Caroline suggested we hang a plant or two, and it really brought the space alive.

And of course… now the air in our apartment is being better detoxed!

PHASE 2 : Optimizing the home office

Caroline created beautiful drawings to illustrate what our space could be,

with ideas for stylistic shifts and swaps that we could easily make.

First off, we have to check with the measuring tape how much space it's going to take up.

That way we'll see right away if it's going to be too big or too small.

Let's measure!

Ah, it's not working... it's stuck... wait a sec...

Ah, ok, so it's not that big, actually.

(Caroline talks about numbers and measurements...)

More measuring...

So this is another Bedouin style that's in style at the moment... it's soft.

So the fibers are going to be longer then?

Yes, I think so.

Off to do a little shopping to get the pieces we were missing.

PHASE 3: Putting everything together!

Fairy lights sounded like a good idea… they're always a good idea.

Of course, this is a work in progress! Caroline has a lot more ideas that we're working on.

If you'd like to see more videos of this kind, let us know in the comments below!

Thanks, Caroline!

It's stuck in my hair now...

Why your best friend is probably a bad business partner | Miki Agrawal - Duration: 3:50.

So when you're looking at bringing partners on, whether it's investment partners, whether

it's business partners, like cofounder perspective, those kinds of things—Number one, it needs

to be the same values.

Do you both care about similar things in the world?

So values need to align.

And then from a skill set perspective you need to be opposites.

Oftentimes best friends are like, "We want to start a business together!"

That's like the fastest way to not becoming best friends again.

Being opposites is so important.

I'm great at design.

I'm great with the vision.

I'm great at sort of the strategy.

I'm really great at the aesthetic.

I'm really great at the brand.

My partner needs to be great at operations, manufacturing, warehousing, legal, finance,

all of that stuff that I don't love.

Can I do it?

A little, but I prefer not to.

I'd rather stay in my zone of genius and have someone really, really take on their

zone of genius, and be in mutual awe of one another.

Like I really believe that there is that yin and yang that does exist.

Like if I have yang energy someone needs to have yin energy to be a real perfect partner.

I think to have the right partner energetically you need to be a match and skill set wise

you need to be a match.

So yin yang like energetically and then yin yang from a skill set perspective.

We often like, we're like: "Both of us are super hyper!"

Even if you have other like skill sets than I do, that hyper-hyper-hyper might not work.

And if it's hype-calm, like the calm counterpart calms me down.

My hyperactiveness makes them more excited.

So that energetically works.

When from a skillset perspective, "I'm great at this, he or she is great at this,"

we're in mutual awe of each other both energetically and from a skill set perspective.

That is the perfect partner.

So I sit on the board of Conscious Capitalism and

I think Conscious Capitalism is really based on a stakeholder model.

Like every single person has to win, and I think in the past I was a little bit sloppy

in a stakeholder model in that we scaled so quickly, "just put butts in seats fast."

I didn't really think about a lot of things as you're scaling, which happens to most

entrepreneurs, and I think now it really is with Tushy I'm really, really deliberate

about the type of people I bring onto the team: really checking their background to

see if they really fit.

Before anyone gets hired they have to meet the whole team and the team has to give me

their feedback on what they think about this person, if they jive well.

It really is culture.

Culture trumps strategy every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

And in the past I certainly was a lot more sort of lax.

"Oh, you have a pulse?

Come join, we're busy.

We've got to grow."

And now, "What's your background?

Let me look at your social media," and if it's all selfies you know that's scary!

That's not a great person to have on your team if it's like selfie from every angle,

which means that they might not be a great team player.

And so and then calling references, doing background checks.

It's so important to do that and I just didn't, and I think to really create that

culture, to really scale a business requires doing that real work.

And with Tushy I'm so, so deliberate.

My new CEO role, I've interviewed 50 people for this role to really be that yin to my

yang and that opposite to my skill set.

And in the past I would have been like "Okay people, let's go."

And now it's "50 people?

Call all ten references of every one of them," and really had them meet all the team to make

sure that they liked the person.

Man Utd transfer news: Sergej Milinkovic-Savic makes Liverpool transfer plea - Duration: 2:33.

Manchester United and Liverpool are both busy with their summer transfer plans having signed two players each respectively

And it seems Lazio's Milinkovic-Savic, who has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, is already trying to upset Liverpool's plans

Grujic, Milinkovic-Savic's Serbia team-mate, spent last season on loan at Cardiff

It remains to be seen if Grujic has a future under Jurgen Klopp this term with the newly promoted side keen on re-signing the 22-year-old

But Milinkovic-Savic hopes to see him in Serie A and his quotes suggest he may not be heading to United himself

MAN UTD TRANSFER NEWS LIVE  "I told him that if he goes to Rome, he will be fine," Milinkovic-Savid said

"I'll leave the shirt and the locker directly to him? Hey, I didn't say I'm leaving Lazio

" Grujic has made eight substitute appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool since joining from Red Star Belgrade in a £5

1m deal in January 2016 when he became Klopp's first signing as Reds boss. Meanwhile, Milinkovic-Savic will now look to address his own future following Serbia's exit from the World Cup

The midfielder was unable to guide his country to the knockout stages but his performances have done enough to see the likes of United, Real Madrid and Juventus take notice

"I need a little bit of rest now. I'll return to Rome and I would be happy if I stay at Lazio, as I'm content there and I have a contract," Milinkovic-Savic told Italian broadcaster Mediaset

"I read something different in the papers every day, but I haven't thought about it yet

First I'll rest for a bit, then we'll see."

The Edge Of Reason / Loved A Liar

Rock / Emo / Post-Hardcore

I just saw these high buildings.

Asking my self if one is high enough.

I just can't hide my feelings.

I'll remember till my last breath.

I was chasing a dream. Then I saw your cold face.

Dreams changed into steam. They're forever lost.

I was chasing a dream. Then I saw your cold face.

Dreams changed into steam. They're forever lost.

I loved a liar. You played your role very well.

I was set on fire. Am I living in hell?

Now I have left you.

Funny how things change.

After all we've been through.

Things went incredibly strange.

I held you in my arms, but I was fading away.

This train you can't stop. You will regret one day.

I tell you, my life won't stop yet.

I tell you, my life won't stop yet.

I'm so disappointed! So disappointed!

Ohhhh

No third chance! No third chance!

I loved a liar. You played your role very well.

I was set on fire. Am I living in hell?

I tell you, my life won't stop yet.

I tell you, my life won't stop yet.

I'm so disappointed! So disappointed!

I loved a liar.

Watch a toddler randomly pick parts for the collab. (lower your volume) - Duration: 3:32.

So we have four people who want to join the

collab, of course, we can only have two or three people because

you know the meme has four people in the whole thing... :/ and uhh...

Dan may not be able to make her part

So....

yeah um, the reason why I'm recording this despite the fact I have the shittiest quality to ever exists is

uhh...I want to actually have proof that I'm randomly picking these and I'm not just picking favorites

So, yeah, let's start.

Oh yes in case you are wondering, "Eve est la meuilleur"(shitty french because...NB)

means Eva is the best because we can never have enough of the holo-waifu (Belle fangirling over a fictional hologram)

Why doesn't she in the character page this doesn't make any sense at all? (Belle getting butt-hurt because holo-waifu is *probably* not an agent)

She's like the greatest character ever. She deserves to have

to have- to be in the character page.

She-she deserves to have her own character page god dang-

Ok, so we are on the website: the random thing picker, um

The camera's a bit shaky because I have to record with my left hand and I'm right-handed

I use the right hand for the mouse

So yeah, please- I apologize for that

Anyways, let's pick some-

Let's pick three people to be in the collab. See there's nothing here. So when I press this

Kathy is in the po- (pollab? wtf?) the collab

Congratulations avocado bow (she honestly doesn't even look like an avocado)- I-I mean leaf bow.

she honestly doesn't look that much like an avocado, it's just the shape.

Uhh so let's pick another one!

Yaaaay you finally get what you asked for! (she asked to be in a collab 2 days ago.)

Um

So pick one more person it's either

Sketchbook, holdup let me remove these two just so they don't get picked again

So we have Kathy and CaWsEe mar- marsh

C-c Kar- (Belle having difficulty pronouncing things) coffee? (gibberish)

Coffee marshmallow (Belle can't pronounce things T^T)

um so it's down to

sketchbook the heckbook and Airi Roque (Belle butchering names again)

Sorry, if one person I'm sorry for whoever gets left out

I'll try to do a collab with you I guess...

it's just um...I cAn'T eDiT T^T (both my tablets don't have the green screen option with kinemaster)

So, let's pick a new one *lip smack*

boop

Oh :/ right...um

Hold on. Okay, so we're back. Sorry people. Um, so let's pick one. Shall we?

there we go. (bottle cap?)

And Airi Roque gets the part!

Sorry sketchbook. Sorry, I wanted to do a collab with you, but I can't edit

if you could- If YoU cOuLd EdIt tHo ThAt WoUlD bE gReAt!

*Weird crab lord noise*

Okay, I'm gonna stop rambling um...

BYE.

Building a Dollhouse: Dying and Applying Shingles to Roof | Beachside Bungalow Kit Episode 5 - Duration: 6:03.

who's up for dying some wooden dollhouse shingles welcome to the Sewing

Report I'm Jennifer Moore helping you discover your love of sewing crafts and

DIY projects if you haven't heard I'm building a dollhouse welcome to part 5 I

think if you haven't seen parts one in four I will link the playlist below I'm

also going to be sharing all of the supplies I'm using so if you are

building a dollhouse of your own you want to torch yourself give this a shot

got my shingle dye right here I'm doing cray this was $8.99 at Hobby Lobby of

course I used the 40% off coupon I've also got some gloves the shingles that

came with Maya real good toys beachside bungalow kit this is by the way the

first video where I think I've gotten the name of the kit right I keep saying

beach house bungalow it's beachside bungalow apparently this is 1,000 wooden

dollhouse shingles I've got some craft knives these are by our teza great that

we're gonna be used to cutting this jug into doing our shingle dyeing system

here and I've also got a plastic bag so we're ready roll either that arm ready

to be a serial killer because some of the stuff looks like it's from the show

Dexter

now we're ready to actually apply the shingles and I wanted to share a couple

things I've learned with you these shingles are fairly thin check out this

and I tried three different glues I tried

Gorilla Glue and I tried aleene's tacky glue but I have to say the only glue

that really worked well for me is quick grip I've also heard some good things

about high temp hot glue guns but I don't usually like working with hot glue

guns so I would highly recommend the quick grip I experienced some warping

and curling of the shingles because they're so thin with these other two

types of glue so while I would recommend the aleene's tacky glue for the house

assembly quick rip all the way for the shingles you're also going to need to

cut the shingles sometimes to make them fit on a row or at an angle for say the

roof line at the dormer window so I found two things that actually worked

pretty well the first being these super scissors

this worked both for cutting straight lines and angled lines you can also use

weirdly enough a rotary cutter and a creative grids ruler this is an old

blade and I'm not going to be cutting fabric after that so be sure to use a

blade that you don't really care about but the section worked pretty effective

both of these things so if you are looking to cut shingles and you're using

the real good toys version don't worry you don't need like a

hacksaw or anything these super scissors are pretty heavy-duty and they worked

and the rotary cutter and the ruler worked just as well so it is your choice

I've already got these little starter rows the directions tell you to cut

about 3/8 inch pieces I just split these into thirds and start each of the bottom

of the rows just so that when you apply your shingles over top of it they will

actually look even with the rest of your rows so I've done this with all of them

already and I've got some sections started so let's get shingling

hope you enjoyed that video if you did be sure to hit that like button and if

you want to follow along on this dollhouse journey I'm on I know if it's

a it's like a roller coaster basically be sure to subscribe to the sewing

report and hit the notification bell and you will see all of my videos you know

in in real time so I will see you guys next time for another one I'm Jennifer

Moore with the Sewing Report have a great day

Final Fantasy XIV: The Real Life Calamity That Shook Eorzea | Features | Backlog Battle - Duration: 5:43.

What's going on everyone?

Alex here!

One of the things that I like talking about is how games are often made, and Final Fantasy

XIV - being one of the games that I play on a regular basis - has some choice behind-the-scenes

stories to tell.

For this video, I'm going to be talking about the circumstances surrounding the creation

of Good King Moggle Mog XII and how a real life calamity brought players closer together

than ever before.

To set the stage, we need to go back to March 2011.

A massive 9.3 earthquake occurred off the coast of Japan, affecting a huge portion of

the country and creating massive tsunamis in its wake.

The event would later be known as the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and would be the most powerful

earthquake ever recorded in Japan.

Meanwhile, miles south from the epicenter, the Final Fantasy XIV team - led by producer

and director Naoki Yoshida - were busy preparing the next set of updates for the ailing title.

During this time, Final Fantasy XIV was undergoing a massive transformation: not only was the

team updating the live service with new content, but they were also creating a brand new engine

from scratch.

This engine would later be known as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

When the Tohoku earthquake hit however, the Square Enix offices were hit with frequent

aftershocks and blackouts.

Families of the Final Fantasy XIV team were affected by the calamity, and some of the team thought

it safer to stay in the office rather than risk heading home.

Yoshida-san thought that pursuing further development of game was not appropriate given

the situation, as he believed that it was more important for the team to make sure their

family was safe.

"Before they're developers, they're human beings," Yoshida-san added.

The massive tsunamis that hit northeastern Japan slowly chipped away at Fukushima's nuclear

power plant, scaring the entire world with a potentially powerful nuclear meltdown that

could have huge ramifications to the world at large.

Because of this, electrical power was in scarcity all across Japan, and as small as a team they

are compared to the rest of the country, the Final Fantasy XIV team tried to think of ways

where they could help.

At that moment, the team decided to power down their servers for a certain period of

time.

The team felt bad, given that it meant that their players would be unable to play, but

it was the least they could do to help the country bounce back from disaster.

After the brief outage, Yoshida-san started receiving letters from players.

These letters told the stories of countless players talking about about how they were

able to get in touch with their friends and loved ones affected by the calamity through

the game itself.

Phone lines and other means of communication were down in Japan, but just by logging into

Final Fantasy XIV, they were able to make sure that their friends and relatives were

safe and sound.

But as Japan picked itself up from the ashes of calamity and the development of Final Fantasy

XIV continued in earnest, the team faced a new challenge.

At the time, the development team were working on two Primals.

Primals are epic boss battles that are based off of previous Final Fantasy summons.

These Primals just happened to be Titan and Leviathan.

Titan was an Earth based Primal with an ability called "Earthquake," while Leviathan was

a Water based Primal with an ability called "Tsunami."

Given the recent events, the team could not, in good conscience, release these Primals

so close to the event.

It's at this point that the team scrambled to find an alternative to release.

In a recent interview, sound director Masayoshi Soken revealed that during that time, the

only models they had created were Moogles.

The entire team then began to think of ways to make the fight happen, crafting the lore,

the mechanics, and every facet of the fight in record time.

Soken remembered that long time series composer Nobuo Uematsu had composed a Moogle theme

for the game, so he took it and drew inspiration from the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack

to attempt to turn the song into a more sinister version.

Interestingly enough, the song still sounds cute and silly, and if you've been listening

to the song playing in this video just now, you're listening to that version.

While the developers have not explicitly said it, the Calamity that ushered in A Realm Reborn

might've been inspired by the events that unfolded, and it's my belief that the developers

felt that the memories attached to what occurred during this trying time needed to be represented

in the game.

The story of Final Fantasy XIV's reaction to this tragic event is a reminder that while

the experience of playing video games can be fun and enriching, that it can often be

so much more.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this.

Have you ever used a video game to do something outside of what it's known to be used for?

'A part of my childhood is over.' Take one last look as Toys 'R' Us closes doors - Duration: 11:15.

Toys 'R' Us shoppers clear the racks at the Arden Way store in Sacramento during a liquidation sale before closing their doors permanently, June 28, 2018

Many mourn the loss of a chain that, for some, carries the nostalgic weight of childhood

Today marked a very sad occasion for toy lovers all over the country as Toys 'R' Us officially closed its doors

Most of the toy retailer's U.S. locations, including Arden Fair Mall, Elk Grove's Bond road store – which is set to become a Scandinavian Designs furniture location – and other local sites, ended the day by selling off the remaining inventory, shelves and pretty much everything that wasn't bolted down

The company announced back in March that it would close all 800 of its U.S. stores, including 10 in Sacramento

Twitter users all over the nation shared their sadness for the loss of the the place where kids once declared they didn't want to grow up

Photo of Geoffrey the Giraffe leaving an empty Toys "R" Us store goes viral.Toys "R" Us mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe has packed up his suitcase -- presumably full of toys -- and left his toy kingdom for good

A heartbreaking photo of Geoffrey is circulating, one day before Toys "R" Us closes its remaining stores

The photo shows the giraffe in an empty Toys "R" Us, holding a suitcase and waving goodbye

The photo was taken by Rene Johnpiere, who appears to work at a Toys "R" Us. Johnpiere posted several other sad photos of the empty store on Facebook

.She shared photos of empty shelves, vacant shopping carts and a group of employees locking the doors of the soon-to-be shuttered store

"My heart is breaking," Johnpiere wrote with a photo of the store's sale signs. She has also shared nostalgic Toys "R" Us commercials from the '80s and '90s to commemorate the end of the company

Her photo of Geoffrey the Giraffe leaving got the most attention, receiving nearly 300,000 shares on Facebook

The image captures the end of an era and sadness many people feel watching their favorite toy store close forever

Many kids grew up watching Geoffrey the Giraffe in TV commercials. The iconic jingle "I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys "R" Us kid," was engrained in many people's minds

The store has made many countless peoples' faces light up over the past 70 years

.Toys 'R' Us Closing Remaining U.S. Stores Friday. The end is finally here for Toys "R" Us stores in the United States

The toy retailer will close its remaining 200 stores on Friday.Toys "R" Us filed for bankruptcy in September in hopes of turning around

But terrible Christmas sales left it on life support. The chain had 735 US stores when it announced plans to go out of business in March

The 70-year old company will continue in some other countries, such as Canada. In addition to competition from big box retailers and online rivals like Amazon, Toys "R" Us was doomed by an unsustainable debt load that came in the wake of being taken private by KKR, Bain Capital and real estate firm Vornado in 2005

Employees now say they are planning to fight the company because it isn't paying severance to its workers

The 31,000 US workers received only 60-days notice as required by federal law. .At the store in Boynton Beach, employees hung signs saying "Toys 'R' Us employees deserve severance pay," and "Bain Capital, KKR, Vornado Realty, Toys R Us, employees want their dinero, money, cash flow

".The main reason employees are upset is because while they are getting nothing. However, executives were paid millions in bonuses right before filing for bankruptcy

Madelyn Garcia, who has been with the company for 30 years, told the Palm Beach Post that employees deserve something since they have given up time with their families on holidays and because they are the true foundation of the company

"We get customers who come in and give us hugs," said Garcia.Shoppers will find deep discounts but little in the way of merchandise on the shelves of the remaining stores

Garcia said her store is mostly vacant. She said she has about 45 staffers still on the job, some who moved over from other stores that have already closed

She has yet to find a new job herself."I'm hopeful I'll find something, along with the rest of the team," said Garcia

"But it's hard to look for a job and go on interviews when you're trying to close your store

".Some of the stores now open won't make it all the way to Friday's deadline. For example, Garcia's store will close Thursday

The toy industry will face a drop in sales from the chain's closing.Big box retailers such as Walmart and Target had already surpassed Toys "R" Us in total toy sales, but the chain was an important place for toy makers to sell their full line of products

Both Hasbro and Mattel reported lost sales of tens of millions each in the first quarter because of the Toys "R" Us closings, according to the companies

Toys "R" Us said it is in the process of trying to find new tenants for its stores

On Monday Party City announced it would use 50 of the locations for its seasonal "pop up" stores, and expand from its traditional Halloween City stores to offer Toy City stores that will stay open through the holiday season this year

But those locations will be only temporary rentals and Party City does not anticipate using any of them permanently, Dan Sullivan, Party City's CFO, told CNNMoney

As Toys R Us nears its end, fans of the store are lamenting its demise. The retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September and officially filed for liquidation in March

As a result, more than 700 Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores across the United States will be closing for good by Friday, June 29

The store has been saddled with debt since a leveraged buyout in 2005 and struggled to keep up with competitors

Though many Toys R Us fans were aware of this, they're still heartbroken to see it go

In 1948 in Washington, DC, Charles Lazarus opened a baby-furniture store that would become the first Toys R Us after expanding into toys in 1957

In the 1990s, Toys R Us was the biggest toy seller in the US, expanding rapidly as it pushed out smaller chains

But by 1998, things had changed, and Walmart began selling more toys than Toys R Us in the US — a signal of more trouble ahead

Take a look back at what Toys R Us was like in its heyday:.As Toys R Us prepares to close its doors for good, fans are lamenting the death of the chain and looking back on their favorite childhood memories

This is what a store in New Jersey looked like in 1996.It had everything a kid could want

This photo from 2001 shows the Imaginarium section of a New Jersey store. It had seemingly endless aisles, lined with dolls

toys . and bikes. It was the perfect place to test them before buying. The Toys R Us "Big Toy Book" was filled with ads for toys like G

I. Joe or the Nintendo 64. They could all be purchased with Geoffrey Dollars, the equivalent of store credit or a gift card

Geoffrey Dollars were named after the "spokes-animal" of the store, Geoffrey the Giraffe

Parents are having a hard time telling their kids that their favorite store is closing

Some referenced the memorable song heard in early Toys R Us commercials. The end of Toys R Us has fans wishing it weren't true

The end of Toys R Us is the end of an era.Early Thursday, the company filed a motion to liquidate its business, meaning it will close or sell its remaining 735 US stores

It had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September. The debate over who and what killed Toys R Us is now raging among analysts, company executives, and shoppers lamenting the chain's death

Toys R Us was once king of the toy castle. In the 1990s, it was the biggest toy seller in the US, expanding rapidly as it pushed out smaller chains

But by 1998, things had changed, and Walmart began selling more toys than Toys R Us in the US — a signal of more trouble ahead
