Holiday Card Series 2017 - Day 12 - Simple Stamping - Duration: 8:10.

(upbeat music)

- [Kristina] Hey everyone, Kristina here.

Welcome to another video

for the Holiday Card Series for 2017.

Today is Day 12 and I'm going to be using

the Majestic Mistletoe stamp set from Altenew.

This is one of their builder stamp sets.

Altenew is well known for these builder type of stamp sets.

And it has different elements that help you stamp

and kind of shade and give dimension to different elements.

So I'm going to be making two different cards today.

I'm gonna have two different color schemes.

And this first one, I'm using the Green Fields

and Red Sunset combination of inks from Altenew.

And then for the other card, I'm going to be using

a little bit less traditional colors

and I'm going to be using kind of more pinks and more teals.

I'm using Sea Shore and Cherry Blossom.

I'm actually only going to be using a couple shades

from each of these color combination sets,

and I'll tell you which ones I'm using as I go along here.

So I have one of the solid images from the stamp set.

I think there's actually two or three different stamps

that you can combine

for each one of these little sprigs of mistletoe.

But I'm only gonna be using two for each one.

For this first green shade, I'm using the color Frayed Leaf

and this is the lightest green in that set.

And I want you to take note of how dark these colors are

when I first stamp them.

This is actually my first experience with Altenew inks.

I've had a few Altenew inks in my stash for a while,

but I haven't had a chance to use them

and I thought I would go ahead and try on these cards.

So you'll notice that it's actually quite dark

when I first stamp them,

and I didn't know that they would dry back quite a bit.

So, I think if I would have tested this out beforehand,

I might have started with slightly darker colors.

So I've moved onto the other color combination,

this is Mountain Mist.

And I just kept that stamp in my Misti Tool

so I could stamp it in the exact same place

for the other color combination.

So, I'm actually going to stick with this color combination

and figure out where I'm going to put the other leaf.

I'm using the exact same stamp,

I've just moved it so it's in a slightly different position.

And once again, I'll stamp that in the color Mountain Mist.

And after I've stamped this one,

and I'll actually stamp it a couple times

so it has a nice solid image here,

I'm gonna switch back over to the Frayed Leaf color

for the other color combination.

So, especially you take a note of how dark these colors are,

because they will fade back quite a bit.

Part of why they fade back even more

and look like they're a lot lighter

is because I'm using a craft cardstock for this.

I'm using some Neenah Desert Storm Cardstock.

So, because it's not against a stark white,

that's another reason why it might look

a little bit lighter.

I'm now using Field Greens,

this is the next darkest shade in that set.

And I'm using the dimensional stamp

or the one that adds a little bit of shading

to the interior areas of the leaves on this mistletoe.

So you'll notice that it adds just a little bit of darkness

to that area.

You can see the difference between the two leaves.

I'm now using Volcano Lake for the other color combination.

And I love how Altenew stamps they,

you know, when they're designing the stamps,

they think about where the shading would be

for each of these elements.

They have a lot of building stamp sets that are flowers

and they're absolutely gorgeous.

So I was really excited to see that they have

kind of more holiday greenery type stamp set

in this Majestic Mistletoe.

So the leaf shapes are pretty much done.

I'm gonna add some berries just to finish out

the entire kind of scene here.

So I'm gonna be using Crimson and I'm using,

this is on the more traditional color pallet.

I'm just inking up those berries.

I'm gonna stamp it once over onto the leaves.

And then I'll go ahead and switch it out

and move to the other color combination.

I'm using Rubellite, I think that's how you say it.

And it's just a nice kind of raspberry, berry shade.

I'm gonna use the same exact berry stamps

for the other sprig of mistletoe,

the other little twig of mistletoe.

And once I have that down,

that completes the actual mistletoe stamping.

Now in the stamp set there is an additional stamp

that adds a darker dimensional shade onto those berries,

I decided not to do that.

I just decided to keep it fairly simple

and just do the one color for the berries.

And it turns out well,

because later I'll be adding some Wink of Stella on top.

So I'm going to add a greeting on top of this entire area.

And I'm going to be stamping it and embossing it.

And because I'm doing heat embossing

and this heat embossing powder will stick to anything

that has any bit of moisture, I'm doing a test run.

I'm making sure this entire area is completely dry

and it's not going to give me any problems later.

So, I actually had to test this twice.

I used an anti static power tool,

I used my heat tool and then I really tested it,

and at this point it got nearly all the powder off.

None of the powder sticked to areas where I didn't want it.

So I thought I would probably be okay to move ahead.

So, there are a few different word stamps

in the same stamp set and I thought I would have it say

merry and bright.

It also has the word be,

so you could combine them all to have it say

be merry and bright.

But I decided to just do merry and bright.

And I started with the ampersand that's included

and I put that kind of nestled down into that area

between the two sprigs.

I then stamped the word bright

and I added the embossing powder on top as well.

So, this embossing powder that I'm using

is Alabaster Embossing powder from Brutus Monroe.

It's kind of like my favorite wet embossing powder

as of late.

It's a really finely milled powder,

it's great for sentiment stamps like this

and it's really detailed.

So after I have that stamped on there,

I'm almost done.

I'm just gonna add a little bit of white

to the other edge of the card

by using my T-square ruler and drawing a dash line.

And the reason why I added this

was because I really felt like that greeting

was just kind of floating there

and none of the images were touching the edges of the card,

which generally is fine,

it just depends on what your design is.

But I really wanted to add a little bit more white,

kind of anchoring that greeting area.

So I scored my card bases at five and 1/2

to create side folding cards.

I'm using some Neenah Classic Crest Solar White

in 110 pound.

And then I punched all four corners on my stamped pieces,

this is a 1/2 inch corner rounder.

And then I adhered it down onto the card bases

using some foam adhesive.

And like I mentioned earlier,

I did add a little bit of detail onto these berries.

I just took a clear Wink of Stella glitter brush pen

and went over all those berries.

So those are the cards for today.

Such a simple design.

Notice how faded back those colors are,

they really did dry back quite a bite.

If I was to do this again,

I think I'd make it a little bit darker,

but even the way they are now,

I think they're really beautiful and very subtle.

So thanks so much for watching.

I will catch you guys on Wednesday for Day 13.

The Best Movie Hell to End Up In - After Hours - Duration: 7:49.

- Which is why I will argue

that garlic fries are far superior

to the over hyped and frankly

disgusting truffle fry and people

who prefer truffle fries...

- Let's keep this civil.

- Are demon people, with butt brains.

- You, you go to hell.

Truffle fries are amazing.

You go straight to hell.

- Well, if they're not serving truffle fries there,

I'd be happy to go to hell Soren.

- Yeah, but like, which one?

- Truffle fries.

Keep up, Katie.

- No, which hell.

You, Soren, should keep up,

Now, which portrayal of hell would you send Micheal,

your dearest friend, to go to?

- The... I mean.

One of the good ones obviously,

I don't want to send Michael to a bad hell.

- Aww, thanks buddy.

- Anytime buddy.

- So, I guess we're talking about hell?

(phone rings)

- You know what hell always seemed kind of fun?

- I Bet he's gonna tell us.

- I am.

Hercules.

It's just like a cool pool party for dead people.

Except the pool is way cooler than a normal pool

'cause it's all swirly.

- Yeah, but all of the spirits never seemed like

they were having a good time.

They were just moaning and forlorn and dizzy

and probably having a lot of motion sickness and,

oh yeah, also, they were in hell.

- Yeah, see, they were just dumb.

What you gotta do is pick a spot on the wall

and every time you swirl around,

you just check in with the spot.

That way, you never get dizzy.

- Yeah, but all the spirits are trying to leave the swirl.

They're always grabbing onto Hades

whenever he boats over them.

- Yeah, if people are trying to get out

of the spirit swirl pool,

it probably isn't that nice in there.

It's full of spirit pee or something.

- I wouldn't mind.

- Besides, does that even count

as a real hell or is it an afterlife?

Is there a heaven in that movie?

- Only for the gods.

Classism.

- No, Michael, the hell everyone would want

is the Bedazzled hell.

- That Brendan Fraser movie where he sells his soul

to Elizabeth Hurley because he's sad and he wants

some strange woman he's never met to fall in love with him?

- Uh huh, That's the one.

In Bedazzled, the hell is basically just this giant party

where it's all beautiful people dancing forever

and they feed you your grandmothers cookies.

- These are the cookies that my grandmother used to bake.

- I aim to please handsome.

- All you gotta do is dance and eat cookies

and generally be the life of the party,

which is basically what all of my weekday evenings

consist of anyway.

Also most of my Sunday brunches.

And most of my...

- That is horrifying.

You have to spend all of your time at a party,

dancing and conversing?

Everyone's more attractive than you.

And they might know you, but you don't know them.

What do you even talk about?

Being damned souls together?

Eating your grandmothers cookies together forever,

all the time?

They don't wanna talk about that.

They don't know my grandma.

They don't even wanna get to know my grandma.

- Yeah and they're not even really enjoying it.

You see it when he goes back for the second time.

They are definitely being tortured by over-partying.

- So, that doesn't mean I would get sick of the party.

I would just go on liking it,

for eternity.

I love parties.

I'm great at them.

- But what about when Elizabeth Hurley turns

into a giant classic devil and then

a giant Elizabeth Hurley in a bikini?

- Scary and sexy at the same time.

- But my point is, when that happens,

it takes place in a giant cavern filled with flames.

So that part of hell also exists.

I mean maybe there are multiple hell options in Bedazzled,

but they're all terrible.

- No, there were no people there.

I feel like that was more of just an intimidation tactic

to scare him into signing away his soul away.

But even if that is the case, then I would just think

about how much I hate parties right before I die

and then, boom, I end up in the party hell.

- You really think you could trick the devil?

- Yes, that is the premise of pretty much every movie

where the devil appears.

The devil is (laughs) super gullible.

- What about the hell from South Park:

Bigger, Longer and Uncut?

It's a normal hell,

but, all of the flying bone dragons fart

and then people like break into song,

and there's like couches and houses and

it's pretty much your normal life except for like

the fire and brimstone everywhere.

- And, Satan isn't just like "blah, I'm the devil"!

- (laughs) What devil is like "blah, I'm the devil"?

- He's complex.

He's not afraid to show his flaws.

You could get to know a devil like that.

You could have a beer with him.

- Yeah, I don't know, you'd have to constantly be dealing

with his on the rocks relationship

with Saddam Hussein.

I get the hell torture and everything.

I'm fine with that,

but being that close to a toxic relationship for eternity.

I don't know.

- Plus, they clearly still have the rings-of-hell,

fires of hell standard torture going on.

No, no, no, no, no.

You know what I could go for?

Real nice Beetlejuice.

Hm?

- An office where there's paper all over the floor

and a bunch of gruesomely dead people everywhere?

- My God, Dan's right.

That is horrifying.

Just use a filing cabinet.

I mean, there's one right there

or maybe just alphabetize all of the...

No, you know what, you gotta color code

the binders and then alphabetize, no, I can't, I can't.

It's too messy, it's too messy

- I meant the doorway of lost souls.

You see it briefly.

It's all swirly inside.

It's like, well not like a pool,

it's more like a slow tornado.

- You really like swirly hell.

- Oh hell yes!

Think about it.

To swirl for eternity.

Then I'd be happy.

- Well, I've got swirling hell beat.

Right, how about the hell from All Dogs Go To Heaven?

It's like a regular normal hell

with all the molten-lava and stuff

but all of the demons and bone dragons are

dog themed. - Dog themed.

Oh c'mon, you telling me you wouldn't want to be

surrounded by cute little demon dogs and

lava monster puppies forever?

- No, because they're not nice dogs.

They're not good boys.

They pinch you while you sink into lava.

- Plus, I guess if it was dog hell,

everything would be made for dogs.

There would only be dog food, dog-sized beds,

dog stuff, dog shit.

- Plus, if you want a themed hell, you might as well

go with Robot Hell from Futurama.

It's just filled with a bunch of goofy robots.

You could knock out the robot devil

or beat him in a fiddle off.

- Yeah, but still again that hell's not designed for you.

You just have to stand around

with a bunch of boring robot stuff to do.

Robot shit, robot food, beds, houses.

Plus, even if you did knock out the robot devil,

you'd still be in robot hell.

- I know, I got it, the best movie hell ever,

Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

- Excellent.

(guitar riffs)

- We didn't plan that.

- Okay, but that's like a personalized hell right?

Isn't that the worst kind of hell?

One that caters to your fears and your personal dislikes.

- Yeah, but hell is just about reliving

embarrassing or annoying moments from your childhood.

Which in their case was kissing their grandma

and being scared by the Easter bunny.

- And when you're not reliving your childhood memories,

they're just chilling on a floating rock.

- Exactly!

You're either floating on a (beep) rock

or you're reliving some annoying childhood embarrassment.

Easy!

I relive embarrassing moments in my mind all the time.

- I could relive the time I farted

at that monastery for eternity.

- And if you wanna get out of hell,

all you gotta do is beat the Grim Reaper

at a game of Battleship.

You could come and go in hell as you please.

- Best hell ever!

(guitar riffs)

- Here are the truffle fries you ordered.

- Ooh, thank you, but I actually ordered garlic fries.

- We only serve truffle fries,

forever.

(laughing)

- No!

(laughing)

(dramatic music)

Minecraft vs Terraria - How Do They Compare? Video Game Comparison - Duration: 6:20.

This is not the first time we have compared sandbox games.

Our last outing to a sandbox comparison was pitting Minecraft against Roblox, two games

that have a rich history and have ruled much of the sandbox world.

Our conclusion was that there wasn't strictly a "best", but that both games were good

in their own way.

Perhaps you could call Minecraft the most popular, but the fact that Roblox has been

making children adept at programming, and making them wealthier than their parents is

nothing short of amazing.

So, what about the new kid on the block, Terraria?

Terraria is fairly new to the sandbox world, with its initial release being on May 16,

2011.

It was designed for the Microsoft Windows operating system, but has since spread its

wings to other platforms.

Throughout its Windows days, it received all kinds of updates, with more enemies and non-player

characters (NCPs), which kept life interesting for players.

In March 2013, it came out on Xbox 360 and shortly thereafter, on Playstation 3.

A mobile version for iOS and Android would soon follow.

It has since garnered great reviews and hasn't done too badly in sales, either, although

some critics have said it is nothing but a clone of Minecraft.

We'll come to the money later, but it's worth mentioning that in a recent interview,

the creator of Terraria, Andrew Spinks, said millions of dollars could have been made by

charging people just a dollar more for the updates.

But, he said that went against his company's principles.

"We have never been all about maximizing the money at the expense of customers, we

have stayed true to our core principals…we strongly feel that forgoing those quick gains

was and is the right path to take," said Spinks.

So, already we must give some amount of kudos to Terraria for not exploiting the player

as some games do.

In terms of ethics, it gets a thumbs up.

Minecraft, on the other hand, could be called the grandfather of sandbox gaming.

It's a rags to riches story, at least for the initial creator.

That man is a Swede named Markus Persson, who had at one point in time had been obsessed

with the game Dwarf Fortress.

He wanted to develop a similar concept, but something much more playable.

That he did, in 2009, when he uploaded a very early version of Minecraft to YouTube.

An alpha version soon followed, costing only 13 bucks.

He then made a 26 dollar beta version and was quite surprised at how many copies he

sold.

Maybe he was onto to something.

Persson never expected to be rich, and said he just wanted to quit his day job and do

his own thing.

As of early 2017, he was worth about 1.4 billion dollars.

So what about the claim that Terraria is just a clone of Minecraft?

Firstly, the major difference is that Terraria is 2-D and Minecraft is 3-D. Reading numerous

forums featuring comparison threads of these two games, it seems many people disagree that

Terraria is just a copy – perhaps hoping to reel in the dollars Minecraft has.

If you've never played Terraria, the gist is you start in a world with nothing much

more than a pickaxe, and axe, and a sword.

You build a base, and that is usually located in a biome – a place where flora and fauna

are prevalent – and there you have to create your defenses.

Non player characters can also have their homes, and they can protect you against the

many enemies.

You will craft items in a workshop for your protection and the protection of your area.

You can also mine for goodies that will get you through this kind of apocalyptic world.

It sounds more like a game-like game than Minecraft, which is somewhat a virtual world

where you have no objectives but to keep building and wandering around…for as long as you

want.

On the other hand, many aficionados of Terraria say that the fact that monsters are never

far away makes it much more exciting than Minecraft.

But at some point, say 100 hours, the game might be finished.

We'll give you an example of three opinions found on forums: one pro-Minecraft, one pro-Terraria,

and one in the middle; all that seem to encompass what most people feel.

In defense of Terraria: "Terraria is a FAR better game than Minecraft.

It does not have explicit goals, but there are a lot of subtle ones to go after, from

neat equipment you can craft to items you can find in the wild that give you neat abilities.

Minecraft is a better world builder, although as a game it is pretty weak."

In defense of Minecraft: "It has less variety in terms of terrain generation but it makes

up for that by being 3-d rather than 2-d, as well as the world being practically infinite."

What the majority feel: "Both have their pros and cons; it just depends on what you

like, I suppose."

And what about the pundits, the game reviewers.

How did they score these games?

If you check out Metacritic, a site that scores games, TV, music and film, giving an aggregated

score from most of the world's most acclaimed review sites, Minecraft comes out on top.

Of all the various editions, Minecraft continually scores better than Terraria.

In another list which compiled games that have appeared on best games ever lists, Minecraft

for PC has been on 12 such lists.

While that might not be much compared to Nintendo's 1996 Super Mario 64 and its 55 appearances,

Minecraft was the only sandbox game to make the list.

In terms of what the media thinks, Minecraft is well ahead of Terraria.

As for copies sold and how much moolah the games have raked in, you won't be surprised

to know Minecraft has done much better.

Terraria was, however, a top seller on Steam just after its release.

After only a month, it had sold over 432,000 copies and that became 12 million copies across

all platforms upon its 1.3 update in 2015 – an update that we know didn't mean a

price hike from its original $9.99.

It's thought that the total number sold right now is about 20 million.

A Terraria 2 has been on the cards for quite a long time now, although it seems there have

been a lot of bumps and starts.

The game planned would answer the concerns of Terraria critics that you can finish it

too quickly and complete all the tasks.

The new Terraria is said to be much more expansive and so far more of an adventure into the abyss.

But maybe that's why it's taking so long to make.

Money-wise, you can't really compare these two games.

Minecraft's creator is now on the Forbes Rich List.

Microsoft was so confident in its future success that it bought it from Mojang for a whopping

$2.5 billion dollars on November 6th, 2014.

It never failed to sell well, and when Microsoft got its hands on Minecraft, it had sold around

60 million copies of all editions.

It now lies in the number 2 spot of best-selling games of all time, behind Tetris, and has

sold over 122,000,000 copies.

Around 55 million people play it every month, and it sells about 53,000 copies a day.

Minecraft for PC currently costs $26.95, so unless Terraria 2 is nothing short of mind-blowing,

it's unlikely to become anything close to the money-spinner Minecraft is.

At least Terraria is cheaper, and having many enemies in a game and something more certain

to work towards might be better for some players.

So, which of these two sandbox games do u prefer?

Let us know why in the comments!

Also, be sure to check out our other video called Minecraft vs Roblox?!

Thanks for watching, and, as always, don't forget to like, share, and subscribe.

Jagdkommandos - Austria-Hungary's Special Forces in WW1 I THE GREAT WAR Special - Duration: 6:08.

We've talked before about shock troops and shock troops tactics, and even done specials

on the German storm troops and the Italian Arditi, but they weren't the only warring

nations with units like these.

Austria - Hungary had its Jagdkommandos.

I'm Indy Neidell; welcome to a Great War special episode about Austro - Hungarian Jagdkommandos

and the First World War.

Actually, they had their origin well before the war.

The concept behind them was Russian.

Russia established hunting commandos by decree of the Tsar in 1886.

That year the Russian army field manual included instructions for creating scouting units of

four men per Infantry Company, artillery battery or cavalry squadron.

These men were to be brave, resolute, and self-reliant, and their name - translated

as hunting commandos - came from their training program, which involved hunting predators.

They were developed to prevent enemy ambushes, as the increased firepower and accuracy of

weapons in the late 19th century made ambushes a costly affair.

This unit development was soon also taking place in Austria-Hungary to combat guerrilla

warfare in Dalmatia in the late 1880s, and these units were primarily for scouting and

patrolling.

Austrian historian Christian Ortner writes that the Austrian army increasingly developed

the Jagdkommandos as a response to the Russians since Russia seemed the most likely enemy

in a major war.

However, there were no central army directives for Jagdkommandos, no specialized training,

and no overall place in army doctrine.

In fact, official Austrian army doctrine had not changed since the 1860s.

Emphasis was on infantry and there was, for example, no coordination with cavalry and

artillery.

Training emphasized marksmanship and physical fitness, and the infantry was supposed to

win on the field by means of all-out, vigorous attacks.

Willpower and courage were enough to overcome things like artillery or machineguns.

Austrian army Chief of Staff Conrad von Hötzendorf was convinced of this idea, and he was not

alone.

The French also subscribed to it.

This resulted in devastating losses for both nations in the early stages of the war when

infantry attacked modern weaponry and expected to win by willpower alone.

Jagdkommandos did not play any significant role in those early months of the war, but

once it descended into trench warfare, cavalry was often no good for scouting, and large-scale

maneuvers could be suicidal.

So Austrian Jagdkommandos were increasingly trained to overcome battlefield obstacles

like barbed wire and to use explosives like hand grenades, but they were still deployed

as scouts, not assault troops.

Soon though, the Austrian 5th Army under Svetozar Borojevic von Bojna created a special training

ground where sapper and pioneer units trained new tactics and skills for trench warfare.

High Command was impressed and soon all Austrian army commands had training grounds on Borojevic's

model.

These laid the groundwork for the Austrian shock troops, and in the winter of 1916, officers

and men were sent to learn German storm troops tactics and an offensive doctrine began developing.

There were obstacles, however, to developing storm troops at battalion - sized levels.

This was all happening just after Russia's Brusilov Offensive, which had severely hurt

the Austrian army to the point where it teetered on the brink of collapse.

There was an overall shortage of equipment, especially machine guns and steel helmets.

The results over the winter were disappointing.

However, by May 1917, Borojevic had one storm battalion for training, and 7,700 other men

trained in close combat tactics.

During the 10th Battle of the Isonzo River that month, Austrian storm troops conducted

local counter attacks for the first time against the Italians, and they made a great success,

taking all objectives with minimal losses.

After this battle, the units were expanded and equipped with mortars and flamethrowers.

In some cases, though, the army had to strip the front line defenses of equipment to give

to the storm troops.

This was no longer a problem a few months later after the capture of enormous stockpiles

of Italian equipment during and after the Battle of Caporetto.

That battle was in many ways the high water mark for the Jagdkommandos, being the first

large-scale Central Powers attack in which they played a central role.

It was also a huge success, and after the battle it was the Italian army that was now

on the brink of collapse.

Then, the Austrian stormtroops were refitted for a summer offensive in 1918, to be launched

simultaneously with German summer offensives on the Western Front.

On June 15th, the Jagdkommandos attacked the Italian defensive lines on the Piave River,

but this time failed to break through.

The Italians had learned from defeat and had organized into a defense in depth system in

three zones.

This was unanticipated by the Austrians, and though their stormtroops captured the forward

Italian trenches, they took heavy casualties when they reached the second zone, which was

made up of strongholds instead of linear defenses.

This failure tarnished the reputation of the Jagdkommandos and they really disappeared

from the public consciousness once the war was lost and their empire dissolved.

The concept did live on in Austrian military tradition, though, after the Second World

War, when the army chose the name for its special forces in 1962.

Despite everything that happened in terms of the military leading up to the First World

War, storm troop tactics and true storm troops were something that were in fact born from

the war.

Much like their counterparts in other armies, the Austrian Jagdkommandos were one of the

first such specialized units, trained in infiltration and assault tactics, and 100 years ago you

could point to them as they went into action and really say, "This is modern war".

15 Laziest Video Games Ever Made - Duration: 7:34.

• What game is so lazy, it asks people to make the game for them?

What game doesn't ask you to do anything but just look at it for 50 hours?

Whether it's developer laziness or player laziness, here are 15 of the laziest games

ever made.

15 – Castlevania: Lords of Shadow • It's not so much that Lords of Shadow

is bad.

It's a decent game with some cool moments.

• It's just that it was a lot more fun when it was called God of War and Shadow of

the Colossus.

• The action sequences have you using a chain-like weapon to beat up enemies.

The bosses have to be climbed on so you can stab them in a specific spot.

Both are good gameplay mechanics.

But this game lifted both of them from better games.

14 – Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing • This is the video game equivalent of starting

a novel, writing the first and last chapters, and then putting it out for sale with 300

blank pages in the middle.

• Big Rigs is the very definition of an unfinished game.

There's no music, none of the objects have any collision – INCLUDING THE BRIDGES – the

physics are nonsensical, and the game tells you that you won, even when you obviously

came in last place.

• And it doesn't even do that right.

It tells you "You're Winner!"

They couldn't even be bothered to spell check it.

13 – Superman 64 • This game took two years to make.

• This game.

Took two.

Years.

To make.

Including a six-month delay.

What were they doing with that time?

• In fairness, it seems like a smaller game than it actually is, because almost nobody

has stuck with it long enough to get past the first level, where Superman flies through

rings to fight Lex Luthor somehow.

12 – Tiger Electronics LCD Games • In the 1990s, it wasn't unusual to find

a bunch of little handheld LCD games in your local store for 20 dollars.

They'd have names you know like "Sonic the Hedgehog," or "Star Wars," or "Spider-Man."

• Tiger was able to get a lot of licenses for things that made their games sound cool.

But the games themselves were so lazy, they felt like trying to play a slideshow.

• There was so little to these games, you could actually see every single frame the

game had to offer just by turning it on.

11 – The CD-I Zelda Games • The lazy thing about these Zelda games

isn't the awful design, unresponsive controls, or the horrifically animated cutscenes.

Or the even worse live-action cutscenes.

• In some ways, they tried to make these games decent, despite obviously knowing nothing

about game design.

That animation took a lot of work, even if it does look horrific.

• What's lazy is the total lack of regard for the Zelda franchise.

Phillips had the most revered game franchise in the world right in their hands, and they

made red rupees equal one rupee.

Even the most basic of series staples and details were just ignored entirely.

10 – Final Fantasy: All the Bravest • In this game, you enlist the help of 32

random heroes to line up and do an attack.

• That's the whole game.

There's no gameplay, no strategy.

Just some grinding in battles where you just tap on a hero to make them attack.

Even white mages just attack.

• It's barely a "game" at all.

It's obviously just a ploy to extract money from you.

Want actual Final Fantasy characters that you know?

It's 99 cents for a random one.

• Don't want to wait hours for your party to heal?

More money.

New missions?

More money.

9 – Pac-Man for Atari 2600 • Any cheap cash-in of a beloved title is

kinda lazy to start.

But then there's also the fact that they used the same line graphic for both the "dots"

and the stage walls.

The walls are just two dots stacked on top of each other.

• And then they tried to play it off like it was intentional.

"No, they're not dots and power pellets, now they're vitamins and VIDEO WAFERS."

• That's the name they came up with to make this seem okay.

Video wafers.

It's a good thing they only manufactured 12 million of these things to sell to 10 million

Atari 2600 owners.

8 – The Magnavox Odyssey • It's important to video game history,

and yeah, it came out in the early 1970s, when technology could barely handle it.

• But we have the benefit of hindsight, and the Magnavox Odyssey displays three dots

and a line.

That's it.

• They even had to pack in screen overlays so it would actually kind of look like the

game it was supposed to be.

7 – Annual Sports Franchises • These things started in the early 1990s,

when a new version of professional sports games would come out each year with rosters

reflective of the real sports teams.

• Of course, that was an era before the internet and DLC and live updates became a

thing.

So naturally, these days… absolutely nothing at all has changed.

They still release a new game every year.

• And because games are getting bigger and more difficult to make, it's getting harder

to make significant changes between annual versions.

So they don't.

6 – Duck Hunt • Once you get past the initial coolness

of using the NES Zapper, you start to think about it.

• You're just pointing and clicking at a screen and being laughed at by a cartoon

dog.

That's all the game is.

There's nowhere to go from there.

5 – Mountain • This is a game where you watch a mountain

drift through space.

There are no controls aside from camera movement.

• It takes about 50 hours to get through a full game.

Spoilers – the mountain dies.

4 – Naughty Bear • Naughty Bear puts you in the position

of a homicidal maniac stuffed bear, who decides he wants to kill every other stuffed bear

on Perfection Island because they didn't invite him to a birthday party.

• So you just sort of run around stabbing bears and setting the same two or three traps.

It's a neat, brutal concept that never goes anywhere.

• It definitely feels like they thought the shock value would really sell the game…

so they just sort of stopped making more game.

3 – Minecraft Clones • Minecraft looks like a lazy game, but

there is actually a ton of thought and effort put into it.

• It did, however, spawn a bunch of games from people that also thought it looked lazy.

So they tried cashing in by putting out Minecraft clones that are actually lazy.

• Many of them add guns and zombies.

You know, to make it feel like an original concept.

2 - Dreeps • In this game, you experience a vast, sweeping

adventure with epic battles and mysticism.

• Well, you don't get to go ON that adventure.

Your job is setting the alarm clock for the guy who gets to do all that stuff.

• But hey, you can watch.

1 – Weird "Simulators" • Games like Farming Simulator and Train

Simulator are not lazy.

They put lots of effort into making ACTUAL SIMULATIONS.

• But now there's a simulator for everything.

We've got Forklift Truck Simulator 2009, Shower With Your Dad Simulator and Rock Simulator…

which actually sounds a lot like Mountain.

• And most of these games aren't even simulators.

It's just a lazy thing to slap "simulator" on your game ironically and expect it to explode

in popularity.

CHRISTMAS DIYS TO DO WHEN YOU'RE BORED | @karenkavett - Duration: 10:57.

Hi guys, I'm Karen Kavett and you might have seen my videos, DIYs to do over the summer

when you're bored, Back to School DIYs to do when you're bored, Halloween DIYs to

do when you're bored, are you guys seeing a pattern here?

Of course I had to do Christmas DIYs to do when you're bored.

These are projects that are really easy to do but they're kind of repetitive, they

kind of take a lot of time, so they're perfect for when you are procrastinating from studying

for finals or if you have already taken your finals and you're on a school break and

you just have so much time to fill and you don't know what to do and you want make

something festive, these are the perfect projects for you.

So if you like these projects, I'm also posting them over on Facebook in a sharable,

social version, so make sure that you head on over there to share them with all of your

crafty friends and family.

Alright, let's get into the projects.

First up is my Christmas tree.

You guys, I have wanting a white tree for years, especially since my apartment right

now has gray walls, so I thought white would look amazing.

So when the company Treetopia offered to send me a tree to use in a video, I was like, yes,

obviously.

So I decided I wanted to go for color and make a rainbow gradient tree.

If you're bored at home, you can sort all of your ornaments by color and hang them up

in a gradient.

However I don't have a lot of ornaments, so I cheated and I went to the craft store

to buy like a hundred colorful ornaments and I hung them in a rainbow all over my tree.

Let me just tell you, I'm so proud of this, each box retailed for $10 but they were half

off when I went and then I had a 25% off coupon on top of that so I got each box for $3.75.

Pretty good deal.

Anyway, if you do this, just make sure that you have more purple and blue ornaments than

red and gold because obviously you'll need more ornaments down at the bottom than at

the top.

After I hung all my ornaments I also filled in the empty spaces with these iridescent

clear ornaments that Treetopia also sent me.

And you guys, I made a rainbow tree.

I'm 100% obsessed with this, it is the Christmas tree of my dreams and all the bright colors

just make me so happy.

Next of course I have to have a Perler Bead project.

We're going to make this Christmas light garland out of perler beads.

It's so easy, literally just follow this pattern which I got from Pinterest and I'll

link down below, and then iron it the same way you would with any other Perler Bead project.

Make a bunch of them in all different colors.

Then use a thumbtack to make a hole in the top and add a jump ring.

Repeat that for all of them and then tie them onto a piece of green string.

And that's it.

I actually decided to restring mine onto thicker green yarn and I also wrapped a star garland

around it to make it extra festive.

I had this hanging in the background of my video from last week and so many of you guys

wanted to know how I made it.

So there you go, it's actually really easy.

Next I've got another Perler Bead project.

Last year I made snowflakes out of Perler Beads and I hung them up on my curtains.

This year I decided to take it to the next level, so I just followed all the same steps

to make a Perler Bead snowflake.

And then, you guys, we're adding glitter.

Put down scrap paper and spray your snowflake with spray glue.

Then sprinkle on white glitter and tap off any excess.

Now I'm sure you're like, Karen there's no way I'm doing a glitter project, that

stuff gets literally everywhere.

Well, not if you use hairspray.

I'd heard this rumor through the crafting grapevine for years now and I finally decided

to try it out myself.

Just give your glitter a liberal coat of hairspray and it actually works, it actually makes the

glitter stay in place and not fall off everywhere.

Just add a jump ring and tie on a piece of string and now we have these adorable glitter

Perler Bead snowflake ornaments.

I think they came out super cute, and you can either just make one or a bunch of them

depending on how bored you are.

Next up, we're making a wreath out of a pizza box.

Yes I'm giving you an excuse to order pizza, tell your mom it's for a craft project.

Trace two large circles however big you want your wreath to be and cut them out.

Then cut a bunch of thin strips of cardboard as well.

Bend them into a curve and then use hot glue to glue them to the center of your wreath.

Don't worry about this being perfect, we're going to cover it up later.

Once you have them glued onto both sides, give the whole thing a coat of white paint,

and again, don't worry about this being perfect.

Now you'll need two strands of tinsel.

Add a bit of hot glue to the center of the wreath and press the end of the tinsel in

place.

Then wrap it all around the wreath and glue down the end.

I found that to get the fullness I wanted, I had to use two strands of tinsel, but if

your wreath is smaller, you might just need one.

Now we've made a wreath that you can decorate however you like.

I added a bright pink bow that I bought at the craft store and then my secret ingredient

- pom poms.

You just need a dot of hot glue on each one and it's an easy way to add some color and

a fun polka dot design.

I don't know if you could tell, but my decorating theme this year is color everywhere, and I'm

just obsessed with how all of this turned out.

And finally, it's ugly sweater time.

There's kind of a trend happening right now where people are wearing sweaters covered

in giant pom poms.

If you're into it, you can actually make one for yourself.

You just need a sweater and some thick yarn.

Cut a piece of cardboard into a U shape and then wrap the yarn around it several times.

Then cut a smaller piece of yarn, feed it into the center and tie it around the whole

bundle.

Cut the loops, fluff it out and give it a haircut.

Now that you have a giant pom pom, feed the ends from the center knot through the sweater

and tie them on the inside.

Repeat that with as many pom poms as you like.

And there you go.

I'd actually really love to know - are you guys into this idea?

Are you extra enough to wear this day to day or just out to an ugly Christmas sweater party?

I'm still on the fence there, but luckily since we didn't use any glue, we can always

just cut off the pom poms and go back to our normal sweater.

So I hope you guys liked all of my Christmas DIYs and I hope that your boredom is now cured.

If it's not, I'll have all of my DIYs to do when You're Bored videos in a playlist

holiday you celebrate this year.

And if your birthday is around the holidays like mine is, what are you hoping to get for

your birthday as well?

December 31st, that's my birthday.

Just so you know.

Just so you all can wish me a happy birthday when that rolls around.

Just putting it out there.

Ok anyway, that was a tangent.

So How Does Nadia Sawalha Feel About Turning 53? - Duration: 4:14.

[KAYE] Happy Birthday to you..

Happy Birthday to you..

[NADIA] Thank you!

[KAYE] 53 today!

[NADIA] Did you bake that?

[KAYE] No

[NADIA] OMG. 53!

[KAYE] Make a wish!

[NADIA] So many things I've got to wish for.

Please no arthritis.

Please no heart disease

Please no diabetes!

[KAYE] Is that really what you're thinking?

I have to say 53

is looking

pretty good

[NADIa] That is because I've been in, for the last two

hours, in a professional makeup artist chair and doesn't it look good even I could

fancy myself

[KAYE] Yeah.. What does 53 look?

[NADIA] So 53 looks like this

I look pretty cool don't I

Waist looks pretty nipped in. Legs are

looking good. Arms are looking beautiful. Neck - fabulous. Hair amazing but 53 also

looks like this

Look at those knees, look at them, look at them, buty you see like that they look

rather fabulous

Do you want to see 53 year old elbows?

That's a 53 year old elbow

[KAYE] It looks very sad

Do you want to see a 53 year-old turkey neck?

That's nice isn't it..

Do you want to see 53 year old cellulite? It's rock hard, only surgery will do anything for it now...

Do you want to see 53 year old pants?

Do you want to see a really sexy bra when you're 53?

[NADIA LAUGH]

Do you want to see a 53 year old belly button?

that's good isn't it. If only one would smile again

Look. If only mine would smile again

It looks so miserable..

[KAYE] Sad belly button...

So how does 53 feel?

[NADIA] 53 feels...

Petrifying. Yep.

The biggest thing that I feel is fear

[KAYE] Of what?

It's frightening and it's funny. You swing from laughing your head off to abject

terror, fear of cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's, menopause, early death,

old age, death, terrorism, world war, plane crashes

Would you describe yourself as an anxious person?

[NADIA] Only since I've been 53

[KAYE] So what makes you happy at 53?

[NADIA] What makes me happy at 53 is when I've had my face done by a makeup artist and I can suddenly look 43

That's good.

[KAYE] What makes you sad?

that makes me sad is world wars, cancer out, Alzheimer's, pesticides, the cost of

everything. The fact that I haven't got a pension, the fact that I haven't put

nothing to one side for a rainy day, the fact that my parents are getting older

the fact my children are getting older

the fact that was poisoned the seas and the planet and we've..

I mean I could just stand here all day

[KAYE] Would you rather be...

Would you rather be

35 again

[NADIA] No because

then I'd have to head towards 53 again and 53 is really shit.

[NADIA] At least I've done 48 49 50 51 52 53 because up to 48 it was fantastic.

[KAYE] What are you looking forward to?

[NADIA] Ummm

[KAYE] Kind of says it all really.

[NADIA] Oh shit

had to go back to the 1840s to hear

what that kind of music sounded like.

And seeing as their ain't no records of it,

If it's not, I'll have all of my DIYs to do when You're Bored videos in a playlist

for you right down below so make sure you go check out the other ones if you're still

looking for a few more projects to do.

And let me know in a comment what you are most hoping to get for Christmas or whatever

holiday you celebrate this year.

But make sure to like this video and subscribe if you liked these projects.

I'm gonna have new holiday videos every single week all the way up to Christmas, I

have so many more ideas to share with you guys.

So I will see you all next time.

I think over high school is when I had the realization that, you know, I'm

actually really good at the technical stuff as well. And so I said, you know,

it's a great way to kind of mix my creativity and my analytical skills and it's

a good career to be in. Part of the reason I'm here is is because of the

Loran Award. It's actually a scholarship that would have allowed me

to go to any of the top 25 universities in Canada. The U of A has a really good

engineering school and some amazing facilities that are very unique to

Edmonton, right here on campus. I think that as a

student at the U of A in the Faculty of Engineering I've been very fortunate to

find some really great professors as well as peers in my classes who've

been a great support in terms of finding my passions and working on projects that

are really meaningful. Being an undergraduate student means that you can afford the

chance to explore a lot of really interesting questions with very low

risks. I've tried to really hone in on this by exploring a lot of different

topics and trying to see how they all fit in together in this one puzzle that I'm

trying to put together during these five years. But also I've always been wary of

not being too concerned about where I want to end up but more so what I want

to do and what change I want to make in the world.

ANIMATE a Still IMAGE in Photoshop CC (like in Plotagraph) - Duration: 6:52.

Today I'm gonna show you how to animate a still image in Photoshop by using some simple techniques.

The result is very simmilar to the Plotagraph effect, and If you're not familiar with

it, you can check out plotagraphs.com, where you can find amazing photo animations.

It's really impressive how you can bring your photo to life using this method so if

you're excited about the video, hit the LIKE and let's start the tutorial.

Hey guys I'm Criss from Eye Stocker and welcome back to the channel.

Here we are in Photoshop and If you want to download this amazing photo to follow along

with me, the link is down in the description.

And before starting this tutorial, what do you think about this new trend of animating

still images?

Leave a comment below.

So, make sure that you have the image set as a background layer and the first thing

I'm gonna do is to select the crop tool and set the aspect ratio.

And I will go with a 16:9.

After I cropped my image I also want to resize it to 1920 by 1080, this is just to work faster

and it's also a good resolution if you want to use the final animation on Facebook, Instagram

or any HD video project.

Next I will enable the quick selection tool by pressing on Q or by clicking on this icon.

I hit B for the brush, choose a 50% hardness and a medium size brush and then paint over

the image on the parts that I want to animate.

The selection doesn't have to be perfect from the first time because I will refine

it after the animation is ready.

When I finished painting over the clouds, I hit Q once again and Photoshop will create

my selection, but I will need to invert it so I go to select and choose Inverse and now

only the clouds are selected.

With the active selection I press on CTRL + J to duplicate it on a new layer.

I hold down SHIFT and move this selection to the left because I want to make some room

for the movement of the clouds.

This layer is now out of the frame on the left side so I will stretch it back until

I reach the right margin of the photo.

And just to make it more clear for you, I extended this layer so that I can move it

to the right in the next step.

I go to Window, activate the Timeline panel and I click on Create Video Timeline.

I want to have a 2 second animation so I adjust my work area accordingly.

I'm doing the same thing with the clouds layer, and I make sure to activate the Loop

option by clicking on this wheel and checking the Loop Playback option.

Great, now I can create some keyframes.

I make sure that my cursor is at the beginning of the sequence, I click on this arrow here

and add a Position keyframe at the start.

You can see it here, it's like a yellow diamond.

I grab the cursor, bring it to the end of the sequence and add another Position keyframe.

Now I hold down SHIFT and use the right arrow on the keyboard to move the clouds layer.

And I move it just until the left side of the layer reaches the margin of the photo.

So I made the movement of the clouds, I hit the spacebar to start the animation, it looks

good but when it's looped and it jumps back to the start it's very harsh so I need to

fix that.

The only way to fix this is to add at least 2 more cloud layers to make this animation

much smoother.

So first I would like to duplicate the clouds layer, but if I do that right now, you can

see that first of all it creates a long layer on the timeline, and secondly it doesn't

duplicate the keyframes from the previous clouds layer.

However, there's a nice trick to solve this, let me undo some steps, and with the layer

selected I press CTRL + G to group this layer.

Now, when I duplicate it, the new grouped layer is the same size as the original one,

and also if I open the group, I can see the keyframes like on the previous clouds layer.

I drag the second layer to the right, until I reach exactly the half length of the layer below.

Then I go to the transitions, drag the fade effect and place it on the first half of this

second layer.

You can see that the sequence just became longer than 2 seconds, but I will fix that

in the next step when I will adjust the loop to be seamless, because I still have a hard

jump to the start here and it doesn't look good at all.

I make sure the second group is selected, press again CTRL+J to duplicate it, open the

group, and add again the fade transition, but this time, on the second half of the layer.

After this step, I can click on the fade transition from the first half and hit delete, because I don't need that.

To make the loop seamless, I push the third layer backwards and make sure it ends at the

1 second mark.

This way it will play only from the second half and it will fade out.

Also I reposition the end of the sequence at the 2 second mark.

Now, the second layer will fade in and play only until the half of it and then the animation

will jump to the start where the layer plays from the half to the end.

And this will make my animation seamless.

Let's hit play.

I have a seamless loop now, the animation looks good, the clouds look good as well.

Now, you can have some weird parts during the animation like these ones for example.

You usually see this when the animation jumps back to the start of the sequence.

How can you fix those parts?

Very simple.

You select the background layer, you make a duplicate with CTRL+J and you position it

above all the layers.

It needs to be layer number 1.

You take the layer in the timeline, you drag it to the start of the sequence and you adjust

the end of it to stop at the 2 seconds mark.

With the layer selected, hold down ALT and add a negative layer mask.

Hit B to choose the brush, make sure white is selected as the foreground color and start

painting on the areas that don't look good when the animation is looping.

This is not a hard step at all but it should be made just because small details always

make a big difference in the end.

And if you want to be a professional editor, you need to take care of the small details, right?

This is how the final animation looks like, I think it's pretty good and it's a fun

way to bring photos to life.

Interview Corvus Corax - Histoire et Metal Hellfest 2017 - Duration: 19:29.

My name is Nori i'm one of percussionists from de Corvus Corax

My name is Castus i'm the singer and also I play the bagpipe and string instruments

My name is Michael Freak I play the basse (the bassitole).

How do you use History in your music?

So, every text have a story, like today the song from

the King Sverker was a Swedish king, he don't like to fight but he knows is strong.

We know this story from Sverker:

he knows he will have a war with Denmark, with a Danish King, but he don't like it because

he knows many people will die. And so he goes to the King, and say

"don't let fight because many people will die, so maybe we can speak before .

All the time is the same, before you fight you have to speak.

What we are doing with History, you know there are band that are more academic,

they try to do thing like if we are living in the medieval time but we don't.

the medieval times but you don't so we are transforming if you're collecting a

So we are transforming. We are collecting a lot of information, everything we can get from this old time

and transforming it into our time. What Casus said about King Sverker,

today is the same problem, you know, so you will find similarities.

for us is important that we play instrument, have costume, the wearing (from this time).

Maybe not totally authentic but they could have been,

because all the material are ok (according the the medieval period)

as the instrument we are playing, the bagpipe and the drum.

You know, you will not find original bagpipe from 800 years ago, because it's rotten of course.

But you can find pictures, paintings. So we try to do it in the way that is close to authentic.

Also when we were, long time ago, we had a life like real menestrel.

We go on the street we had basket and we get money, and we look and ask you have money?

No? ok because know we will live 6 weeks or 2 months like real medieval menestrel.

So we try to live like real menestre, and I think that it is the best way to understand the menestrel music,

or the medieval music without churches and other things.

And how do you collect your information?

Libraries ! Yes It is a life!

To find the information, some people maybe think today you only have to go in the internet

and you will find everything

But you only find these things that other people dig.

Castus and other member of us, they are hanging

for months now in libraries to find old books with lyrics

or song fragments no one found before. That's our way to do it,

you have to go to the old fashion way, find old books, look if you find something interesting.

When you have the old book in your hand, you can feel the spirit. It's totally crazy.

The leather, the old paper, the smell.

Normally it's not allowed to touch, you have to wear special things. But we touch

and you can feel the spirit and we will play better.

Can you told more about your instruments and the use of your instruments.

You like to speak about basse?

Yes I play the bass-citole it's similar to the double bass and [operateBass],

yeah I don't know it's an old instrument so it looks like a Viola da Gamba, it's a real instrument from 1500 1400

so yeah and I'm a bass maker but this bass I played is an handmade product from the [dramarats]

because the band, Corvus Corax, has never played before with a bassplayer, that's a new story for this band

We plan to build our the future the string instruments but we also have an other guy Wim,

he built a bagpipe, the name is from the factory Corvus Corax's bagpipes

and we're using the best old bagpipes from all over the world because the sound is great

and we have played today in the concert 5 different bagpipes and 5 different tunes.

That is a typical to Corvus Corax because most people have the same bagpipes

but we have so many different styles and we can change the sound and the important thing is also

The Drums ? Maybe ? Of course people need something to dance to !

The drums of course, probably it's the monster frame drums you will never find something written

that it has really existing

but it's made of horse skin and the people hundred years, it's the same craziness like us right now

so I think it's not different so maybe they were people somewhere who want to have the biggest drum of all,

or maybe there was existing such one a 1 meter 20 centimeters frame drum

but I want to tell something more about the bagpipes because it sounds so easy

at him creating a bagpipe but when he started to do it, it was hard because you can't go to a museum,

look if this is meeting bagpipes (criteria), nor something found in Earth because they will not find something of your interest it's certainly rotten

so you have to create the instruments, to recreate so if you like it's like sometimes scientists

to recreate the history that's gone for centuries. He found pictures, paintings and other hand painted things,

or he went at church you can sometimes find a guy playing a bagpipe

so you have to check ok that was the size of the bagpipe then you find notes

and you know what's good for people to play with bagpipe then you have to go to all the other countries

where there's still traditional bagpipe like in France, Spain, and the East side of Europe

has anyway to find out to recreate what probably was the way

they created it in the past it's for me very interesting,

it's like for me taking a bone of a dinosaur or trying to find out by checking real living animals

how this animals were probably living

You have a very pragmatic approach of the music, you seek to mix other instruments is it a way to make better music ?

It's one way because we don't have only Corvus Corax,

we have other groups and we are berlinskiBeat, it's music from the twenties (mixed with)

-what was from Berlin the Berlin's mix at this time was balkan and mexican- with modern beats

so we can play so many different things but when we play medieval music

we need medieval instruments, that's totally important,

when you play what was the guitare the sound is horrible because it's another technique

So you need old instruments to have old sounds and you have to look for pictures and paints.

When the people look like that. Oh it was loud, not nice. We like to do the same, people dance and drink we are real minstrels

We like to do the same, people dance and drink we are real minstrels

I'm really fond of you, have you done some studies on medieval music ?

No, You can study medieval music in Basel in Switzerland but it is the music from the castles,

not normal for parties.

There is a Prince from Bavaria, Ludwig von Bayern, and he says"

ah you are the Rolling Stones of the medieval time, you are the minstrels".

That is what Corvux Corax is.

We make Rock'nroll and metal but from the old time,

it's not heavy Metal because we play wood instruments so it's Heavy good music.

So I think, what is interesting is that before when we started this music 27 years ago,

most of the people thought that medieval music is music for churches,

old gregorian music. The music for higher class people.

A very smooth music, for the king and the Prince. You know like today there is music for every people.

You are sitting in a bar, in the tavern, there is a band coming, playing in a little town market place.

You can see those people described in the past, the minstrels came and were very loud , colorful, drunk.

You can find paintings of this time where you see people pressing their hands on the ear .

So you see that was loud music and that's what we are doing. the street music of medieval time

You are very strict with your clothing and instruments , your music is a mix,

so how have you done that ? have you done some research ?

It's very easy because we travel all the time.

We've travelled in Europe and in Asia, we hear the traditional music and we understand

why the people play that, and we remember the roots of those musics

So we play music that we can feel and then when the audience gives it back to us.

For example we were in Canada and some people said " hey, my family comes from Irland and now I understand the old music.

Normally I hear Irish music but you play a thousand years old Irish music, like the Celtic music.

It's not the same music …

No, it's not the same it's older , it goes step by step .

The Celtic music you hear now is 200/300 years old .

*Frick speak DEUTSCH*

You did not had CDs, you only can sing that and you can feel,

when you go in an Irish Pub and you hear 200 years old musics you have to feel maybe 600 years older

What people played the music in that time.

We have a friend, he is a musician but he also is a professor for gaelic music,

sorry gaelic language, and he likes that the people,

the Irish people and the Scottish people have to speak more Gaelic…

To keep the language alive

Yes ! and he was happy that we tried to sing old Gaelic,

nobody understands old Gaelic, and the germans come, Corvus Corax comes to keep the old Gaelic !

And he was totally happy and he played with us.

For that, it is not only music, it is also about saving something, it's the idea.

You use different languages in your songs ?

Ah many ! I sing old Norse, it's a special Viking language,

thousands years ago, something like that,

and after you have Swedish, Danish and Norway, and Icelandic, but first it was old Norse.

Also old English, when we sing the Beowulf Saga, or Gaelic, but we don't sing in Gaelic, we sing in old Gaelic,

it is more than a thousand years old.

And we sing in latin, and also…

Old greek…

And old French with one song we don't play today… why ? We are in France !

From François Villon, it is from the 15th century, from Paris,

he was a very famous writer at the time, and we play "La balade de merci".

And also we have songs in Normand, it is like French but it is also a Viking language.

According to you, why is there a need to be close to those roots, to those ancestors' metal music ?

Why do people have that need ?

You know I think the entire world is coming together, kind of, you know it's globalisation.

I like it, it is good that you can talk to someone on the other side of the planet,

but while all the humans are coming kind of together, I see more and more people looking for their own roots, to find themselves.

It is millions of people wanting to find their own roots, and usually it's nothing bad !

It's the opposite, it's cool, because the culture are diverse, and all the different cultures kept alive, that is a good idea !

Some people are crazy and think that the old cultures are better than other culture, this is wrong !

But keep it, and tell the people what your culture is, listen about their culture,

and then it is like a lot of colours ! It is not black and white, it is colourful !

And when you drink honey wine, there you can feel the past !

i have two more questions. First do you know Wardruna ?

Yes !

So, what do you think about that approach of music ?

It is very dark ! Our style is more… still, we have the heart songs, it's the party…

I like it, it is very atmospheric !
