of the fastest mitsubishi evo in the world

Spyros, thanks for this interview and for
your hospitality at the facilities!
- It's my pleasure
-So let's start, after the race in Malta
i thing there in no question
about what's the faster evo in the world
-There will always be a question
-maybe there is but we are going to keep answering this question
But many people have too much questions
about, How you got there
I ll start by saying that in this attempt and eventually
in this conquest of this record,
you recieved a big support from fans and generally
from people who are involved with car tuning
and car races. Who do you feel about that?
-At the Malta's race, the love from the fans was unprecedented
messages, phonecalls
many people from Greece were watching the livestream
i didn't expect that
and then after the race the support got bigger
I wasn t expecting this at all...
-if you didn't saw it, go check at our fb page
the interview that we did in a night club
with our friend ''Pravlenia" that got crazy happy
about the record... He was in a shock!
-I think he is still dancing
-So, behind this record and this car
behind all of this, there is a company, ''eXtreme Tuners''
For those that don't know many things
what exactly eXtreme Tuners do
other than making world record evos
-Apart from the evo that is our project car
we produce our own tuning parts
Turbos, connecting rods, pistons, everything you can imagine
everything that can be fitted in a tuned car
-So you design and make, every part needed
- Yes and then we export them worldwide
-If I'm not mistaken
the project evo started at 2011?
-We started with a customer's car
Dimitris Kataramenos Evo
back at 2005-06
In 2005 we made 1000-1200hp
and everybody was thinking that's not possible
In 2011 we got our own car and
and it's evolving till now
- So the target from the beginning
was 2000hp and 7seconds?
-No
we did it step by step and envolved over time
-Why did you choose the evo and not another car?
-First of all it has a great engine
its one of the best 4cylinders you can upgrade
its a very reliable and tunable engine..
-We have seen in your posts
that the 2.0L engine of the evo
has been destroked to 1,8L
many people doesn't understand the benefit
of this and how is it possible for that little engine
to produce that ammount of power
-First of all the horsepower is not relevant ,
to the engine displacement
we did this so the engine can rev higher
and be durable
The rod to stroke ratio had to be 2:1
the lenght of the rod must be double of the stroke
as to withstand the frictions in the engine
in order to rev up to 12-13.000rpm
the displacement had to be smaller because the stroke
has been reduced from 88 to 77mm
the rod is now longer, the piston wedging corner changes
and for the piston, in terms of durability
it revs 12k the same way a stock stroke would rev 9K
-So the higher rotational speed is the reason
the engine can spool a turbo that big
-Yes, for example
a 2L-2,2L engine would spool that turbo at 8.000rpm
ours, spools at 9.000rpm
- We had that question in many comments
how is it even possible for a 1,8L engine
to spool that huge turbo?
-The best advantage isn't that it revs 13k
it's that it holds out for many races...
We come back from every race and
the only thing we do is an oil change!
We did have many problems with lubrication,
with the dry oil sump, the bearings...
All those things,in order to reach this level
have envolved through those 5-6 years...
This engine setup is the same since 2012
the only thing we've improved is reliability...

-So how much horsepower does the evo have
we've heard many numbers...
and how much of this power has been used...
-The car in our Dyno had 1780whp
2100hp at the crank ...
-And how much of this power is used in the track?
- The 7,8sec pass has been done with 1400whp
, 1750 at the crank.
- That's about, where the limit is for the transmission?
-Unfortunately yes.
In Malta the transmission had to change completely!
there is no comparison in what we needed in Greece
- Do you believe you can make
the transmission better in a level
that can handle the power of the engine?
-Yes, in the next race everything will be ready..
-What comes next?
What are your plans for the future?
- We make the transmition better
so it can handle the power,
so we can race and come back with no problems
and then, out of the country again
maybe in Malta again or America
- Are there thoughts about an other project?
you broke the 8sec limit , you are in 7's now
in the future you may go for the 6's
In this car? Or with something else?
-First this car has to be done 100%
it has to go in its full potential...
and then something different will come up...
-I think its a bit early to reveal this...
-It will have more cylinders...
- More cylinders in the same logic...
We 'll talk about it in the future, we cant reveal this now...

-Spyros, as we said earlier you have recieved
big support from the fans and even from competitors
in social media, and personally
they supported you in every way
Also after the record time
the publicity is big enough, car magazines e.t.c
except from those people, except from co-workers
was there someone from the state
or from the car racing federation
that contacted with you?
-No, nobody concerned themselves
they didn't even said something about it
like this never happened...

Generally from the system
there're so many people talking about it
fans, friends, the whole community of drag racing
and not one from the federation
has shown himself, at least to say
''You guys went there, did the record, well done''
Nothing at all...
- From what we have seen with our small experience
and you sure, with your big experience
the drag racing in Greece is alive because
of racers and people that occupy themselves for it!
-Unfortunately, its the only sport
that no one has given serius attention
they've given their attention to drift more than dragster
at every car racing sport, rally and everything else
except dragster...
- So this interview and this record
is an opportunity for us....
- No one cared, like nothing happened!
-Its an opportunity to say that
no one from the state has ever supported dragster
and generally they never helped with anything
-We didn't ask them for any money...
at least to congratulate the people working for this thing
They should support us in some way
in order to raise the competition
and the level in dragster.
They are doing absolutely nothing
this is only happening in Greece!
- And now is the time for the last question

-First of all not all Americans guys are the same
there are serious and professionals guys too...
-Sure there are... But also there are people that
don't know much and speak too much...
-It's been a while since all the guys
are trying to be in the 7's with their Evo's
Those guys named ''spark-teck''
had made up this ''7sec bounty''
Its a money bonus for every Evo
that wants to participate
Its like a motive
for someone to be in the 7's...
-So any evo going 7's for the first time gets the bonus..
-The first time we contacted him
he told us that the 7,9 we did in Crete
doesn't count and the car has to go at an official track
-Because the track was not FIA approved?
-Exactly, we had to go at a FIA approved track like Malta's
We went to Malta, we did 7,8secs
and we sent an email... He never replied!!!
Some Greek fans are asking in comments,
why did the eXtreme Tuners didn't get the money?
and he commented back that
they are not in the candidates list
Then we learned that for us and only
because we are already in the 7's
so they've added an extra term which is
anyone that is already at 7's cannot participate
So even if 100 evo's did 7's no one would get paid...
-That means that if another evo do a 7 anytime
it will be the second-third-fourth but
it wiil get the bonus like it was the first one..
- Listen...
our schedule for the future is to
go at the track in USA
and race our car there, at the same track
-The track of the previous record...
-The track where the 8,09 was done...

How difficult is it from the point of driving skills
to drive this car in a race?
and what's the degree of risk racing in greek tracks
Congratulation guys, we are proud of you!
-It's not that difficult
if the track is good and the car finds traction
because if it can't find traction or if only one side finds traction
the car changes direction all the time...
the better the track is, the better the car drives.
-For Spyros, it is easy to drive a 1500hp car...

-Yes, as soon as the transmission is ready!

Why don't you put an automatic transmission
like the evo's in America?
-The Evo's in America don't have automatic transmission.
- Sequential
-Maybe he means the Eclipse...
- Οbviously our friend is being confused with some
other mitsubishi's like the Eclipse
- Yes, first of all those cars have
longitudinally placed engines so it can be done...
and secondly , i have no reason to do this
the automatic transmission gives you a better 60ft,
a more smooth start...
I've already done 1,2sec at 60ft ...
i'm do the same time as an auto...
and i'm going to do a better 60ft...
-We hope to see that soon...
-Something i forgot Spyros..
except that is the only Evo that runs 7's
and has its interior-dashboard
we 've seen in photos and videos that it has a car stereo...
-Yes and it's an mp3 player also...
-Does it work??
-Of course it does...
- We want to listen to music from the faster Evo in the world sometime...

i dont think there is anyone out there who
wants to know something else for the evo...

The best thing that happened is the time we did

it gives us the courage to go to the next race!
