The Jaguar project - Episode 2 (english subtitles) - Duration: 13:36.

Hello, my dear old timer friends - I'm Marie and we are with Markus Kümpel in Rödermark.

If you remember, last time we brought a Jaguar to his place and took a look to find the hidden aches and pains.

Let´s take a look what`s wrong with this precious piece. For that, we have to turn on the engine.

And we found the problem already. The vehicle is almost at operating temperature.

But the dashboard doesn't show any oil pressure which most likely marks a damaged engine.

And now we`ll take a look if we can find that.

Oil filter housing is leaking,

oil supply line is leaking,

leaking a lot.

The rear main bearing is leaking.

The sump is leaking.

The Radial shaft seal is leaking.

The front cover also leaking.

Seems like it has to go.

So, well do a compression test with the vehicle. For that, we removed the spark plugs.

My employee, Alex did that already so that we can take a look, oil pressure is very bad, now we'll take a look what is going on in the combustion chambers.

For that, we are doing the compression test.

The measuring device has to go in the aperture of the sparking plugs,

while we a starting the engine, to see what the pressure response of inside the engine is like.

The first plug is a little bit deviated.

Which means theoretically, in the area of the cylinder head, everything is okay so far.

But we will know that for a fact, once we disassembled the engine.

Markus has now disassembled the engine - which we are going to look at now.

Hello Markus, how are you?

Good morning Marie, everything is great, thank you very much.

What has the disassembled engine revealed?

Well, a lot of issues.

I will give you a quick summary.

The last time when we got the vehicle, we made an assessment of damage.

We detected that we almost didn´t have any oil pressure.

After that, we created a compression diagram, which looked quite good.

But at the end, we made the decision to take the engine out and to disassemble it.

After that, we experience a few miracles -

because that engine was still running, was nothing but a miracle.

I will use this as an example, this is the main reason for our loss of oil pressure.

This is a half shell of a big end bearing. Which look as an original from our supplier MAHLE look like this.

You can see the difference very clear.

Just like this one, we have much more similar issues.

Now I will hand over to Patrick. He will be able to explain everything in detail to you.

So Patrick, you're the man for the details.

We had a loss of oil pressure, but the compression test was fine, how is this possible?

In the case of a loss of oil pressure, the first thing to be checked is the crankshaft. I measured the crankshaft, there is a protocol to that,

the outcome of that - except the fact that the bearings are defected, like Markus already explained -

is that crankshaft at many spots are already smaller than the fitting.

The crankshaft was running for 50 years. The engine is still standard, it was probably never restored.

The components simply wear off.

The rising oil flow, when the bearing shell is put on the bearing we have too much oil flow.

The oil will leak in between the bearing shell and the bearing, while the oil pump is not able to support with more oil quick enough.

That´s why we don`t have any oil pressure anymore.

The bearing shells are also grooved

Do you feel that?

Yes, you can feel it - you can touch with your nails.

The small bearings of the connecting rod are way worse, that's why the bearings look so much worse, they are all red.

The other ones only have single deep grooves. That's because of the oil pump, which over the time accumulated a lot of dirt particles.

Maybe something was dropped into the oil pump, or during an oil change, there was a little bit of dirt that fell into it.

The oil pump sucks it in, shoves it through the oil hole, and after that, it leaks right here at the lubrication point of the crankshaft, and is weaning at the soft material of the bearing shell.

That´s how it mills the grooves before it´s washed away if you get lucky, or before the crankshaft is totally broken.

So that we will have to grind the crankshaft, which is still standard right now, to the next larger fitting.

After that, it will be placed on the first larger fitting.

There are 4 possible fittings so that a crankshaft has five lives if everything works out good.

Five lives?

Exactly. Now it will be removed to its first life. And if this will work for another 50 years, we will be able to use this engine for another 250 years.

That´s a good age."

Yes. Another issue concerning the oil pressure could be, as the connecting rod is also supported through these eyelets of the crankshaft,

and the connecting rod of the Jaguar is drilled hollow, the oil pressure also can escape upwards to the piston pin.

And the piston pin is placed in a bronze box, and these bronze boxes have some wiggle spaces.

You can see that perfectly here on the table if you take a look at the joint, then you can see that the joint is.

Moving

Exactly - it's moving. This shouldn`t be moving at all, because here also can oil, which is running through the whole system under pressure of up to 5 bars leak.

And everything together - there is some oil lost, there is a little more oil lost because these bearings are even more broke, up here some oil is lost -

will lead to the low oil pressure.

The compression test was fine, which means that the pistons are still running fine?

Well, the pistons had to go through 50 years, which have worn off the piston skirt.

These pistons have wiggle space in the bore, usually, I wouldn´t be able to place them like this.

They are supposed to have four / hundredths, if they are just a little bit tilted, they won`t fit anymore.

These pistons are obviously moving a lot. Right now they have two / tenth, these pistons can no longer be used.

The high mileage is also visible through these rings. This ring is able to move up and down in between the circumferential slot.

This leads to a function, similar to an oil pump. On its way down it will wipe oil off, which will stick behind the ring at the borehole.

On the way back up, the oil will be pushed upwards.

This means this piston doesn't work anymore because first of it`s worn off,

and the wear on the piston rings can't be rebalanced, as you would have to build stronger rings, which is not worth it, as the piston is broken anyways.

This is why you buy a whole new set?

Yes, there will be a whole new set of pistons. Also, we have damage symptoms at the fifth bore hole, which has deep grooves, that you can also feel.

And at the third hole, we have symptoms of corrosion. The vehicle probably stood still for a while, as the car is relatively old.

Most likely the valves were open, which leads to humidity running through the system, that condensed at the cylinder and turns into rust.

This runs, and you also can´t recognize it during operation.

But when you renew everything, the holes will be drilled and fitted.

To remove all of the rust I would recommend, not to move from standard to the first larger fitting, but from standard to the second larger fitting.

That way we can make sure the damaged spots, the grooves, as well as the corrosion, are fully removed.

So Patrick, we took a close look at everything and found several serious damages.

The pistons, the connecting rod do we have a substantial engine failure? Is everything over and done?

No - it's not over. For me, this is still a regular engine revision.

Concerning the pistons, you regularly have to expect them to be replaced after the mileage performance.

The crankshaft is not that damaged that it couldn't be ground, so it's reusable.

Theoretically, we can simply revision this engine.

But the expense is significant, as the crankshaft has to be grinded, hardened, straightened...

A new life basically...

Exactly, the question is, if revision is worth it for this engine.

This is a 2.4-litre Jaguar engine with 120hp, later 133hp.

That separates itself clearly from every other Jaguar engine on the market.

the other engines had a lot longer displacement and totally different engine characteristics.

Usually, a Jaguar engine with 3.5 or 3.8-liter displacement a lot more torque, pushes a lot more from upwards and it´s a totally different driving experience.

This engine right here was the basic version with a smaller displacement and less power,

at least perceived because of the weak torque.

So the engine had less of a push."

Could you also just look for a larger engine and use it as a replacement?

This would be a political decision, as this has to fit the car.

There used to be bigger engines for the same frame,

but our engine still has the original number that was delivered with the car when it was first built.

The crankshaft still has the same number written on as the engine as well – so-called matching numbers.

Which is an important factor under certain old-timer collectors.

But on the other hand, there are old-timer collectors that don`t care, as long as it runs well.

So a matter of taste

A matter of taste and a political decision, that our boss has to discuss with our client.

Well, then I will take look for Markus."

Are you ready now?"

Yes, we did take a look at the details, and have much better insights now,

and now have to answer one big question: What do we do with this baby?

Well, I will discuss that exact question with the dear car owner, at the retro classic, where I will meet up with him.

As you already mentioned this is a political decision, with two possible options.

Do we take care of the original engine, the little 2.4-litre, as it is repairable, which would be a big expense, while we also still have to take a look at the cylinder head.

Or the car owner chooses a more powerful version of his car within the admissible range. By definition a 3.4 or 3.8-litre engine that would be assembled into the car.

It was delivered like that, as this doesn't have any connection to the breaks, axis, and chassis - what would make it possible.

I will discuss the facts with him, and at the end, it will be a matter of money, as this will obviously cost quite a bit.

Another factor is a certain expenditure of time and we need the components from our supplier MAHLE.

What is deliverable and what makes sense to be delivered.

And all this has to be determined soon, and therefore I will meet with him.

Tutorial to make Responsive Bootstrap Carousel Image Slider - Part 1 - Duration: 12:00.

In this tutorial, we are going to understand bootstrap carousel responsive slider images.

So stay tuned to know more on this topic.

Hello and welcome to another new episode of learning simplified. In today's tutorial we

are going to understand bootstrap carousel responsive slider images. You may

see that these images these are practically carousel responsive images with control panel

and with captions. Now these two arrows in this extreme right and extreme

left if you click on here next images will be taking place and if we click on this left

Arrow icon then will be proceeding towards the previous image. On the other

hand we can see we have some indicators. So these are the controls and of course there's

the caption over here.

So these are the things those are going to be taught in this tutorial and of course with

some customization that will be discussed in our next tutorial. So the very

first point that is about to be considered here is the code, where from to get the code?

If you go back to google.com and look for bootstrap carousel, you will be

taken into their official website of carousel and here you can see that recordings are present

over here. First one is without any kind of control or without any

kind of previous or next items, in the second case you'll be having two arrows here, the

previous Arrow and the next arrow and in the next case you will be having

with indicators that means in addition to the arrows present in the extreme left and

in the extreme right, you have some indicators from where you may choose the

desired image where you want to jump off. And of course here you will get the fool and

finalize code where you'll see that the images it-selves along with the

previous and the next arrows, along with the indicators and along with these captions panels.

So the very first thing is to bring on the codes from here. So all we

need to do we need to copy them into clipboard and then come back to your page index.HTML

or wherever you want to place your bootstrap carousel and inside a

container fluid, and I have created a carousel holder here, a class name with carousel holder

and with the class name of no-padding. Then I have created a div class

col-lg-12, and inside this div class col-lg-12 I have pasted all those codes that I have

copied from here.

So this is the first thing that you need to do. The second thing is how to set the dimension

of the images. Practically in case of bootstrap or any kind of

responsive images, image is a little bit challenge. You need to take care of various display device

width and that is why image is gonna be I think a little bit of

challenge itself, getting the right dimension, right width and right height of the image.

In my case I have placed all those images in a dimension of 1400px by

550px or 500px. We always select a particular dimension such that after having this carousel

images users can understand that there's still some contents beneath

this slider panel, beneath these slider images, as 768px is the lowest possible view port

height in case of a desktop application so that is why I'd like to suggest

you to keep maintaining this dimension that means 1400px by 500px. So the second part

is setting the width or setting the dimension of the images.

Now the 3rd point is, understanding all these parts those are present within this particular

commands or syntax those are being used over here. We have to understand

all those things. Now just look over here, we can see a div ID carousel-example-generic

has been created. Practically this is the ID that will be used all over. Here

we can see that a ol class carousel-indicators have been created, that means this part, this

and this ol class indicators, those have been created over here where we

can see that a list item has been called in with a data target of the same Id that has

been created over here.

In the next thing, you will see that a data ride has been used with a carousel class,

that means here we are specifying a carousel image slider has to be introduced

in case of these deep ID carousel-example-generic. And another thing, the number of list items

will be the same to the number of images being used over here. That

means I am just reloading it once again. So this is the first image, this is the second

image, this is the third, fourth and fifth. That means five images are being

used over here. If we get back to our project we can see that there are 5 list items those

are being created and those are being indexed starting from zero. That

means the first image that will be indexed as zero, the second one will be indexed as

one, the third one will be indexed as two, the fourth one will be indexed as

three, and the fifth one will be indexed as four.

Likewise if we use 7 images over here then it will be indexed accordingly as 0,1, 2,3,4,5,6

- that means a total of 7 images will be used here.We have understood

this part and we will be talking about these things later, what is the purpose being served

over here. In this div class carousel-inner, it has a role of listbox.

Then comes this div class item-active that means if we reload when the page is getting

reloaded, the first image that is being loaded into your page will be this

one. So this is the 0th image, which is being loaded into your page. That thing is being

observed over here. Same thing we are practically using div class

item-active ,that means this will be the first image and on the other hand if we look into

this carousel indicators, we can see that data- slide to 0 is using the

same class active. So this will be the first image that will be loaded when the page is

being loaded for the first time and in that case this particular indicator

will be active in the same purpose.

Now data-slide to 0 this I have forgotten to mention here, this actually tells you about

sliding towards some particular images. As we can see here data-slide to 0,

this is the first one, that means this image will be considered as Number 1, then it slides

over to the next image and to the next, the fourth image and the fifth

image. So all it is doing it is just sliding your images to the next one accordingly. At

the end of the slider, the image is getting rolled again from its previous

or the beginning position or the starting position. So this thing is data cycling. In

order to create this data cycling, all we need to do you need to mention this

data-wrap as true. If we just change this attribute to false, data-wrap is now set to

false, now Press control+s, get back to your project and reload and now just

wait and see here what happens. This is the second, third image, fourth image, fifth image

and the cycle stops. Images are not getting rolled over again into its

previous position into the first image because you have used here data-wrap as false. That

is why if you want to keep going on with your cycling, then all you need

to do you need to keep it to data-wrap true. Now just get back to your project and reload

now you can see this is the first one, second image, 3rd image, 4th image,

fifth image and it is all over starting again that means the cycle is getting started all

over again.

So this is the purpose of data-wrap as we can see here and this thing is data-interval.

It actually determines the time delay of each images into that slider it is

actually counting in milliseconds in timing. That means if we want a 1 second delay then

all we need to do we need to change it to 1000, data-interval, this is the

attribute and we are setting the time delay to 1000 milliseconds that means one second.

Reload and now we can see that a one second data pause here. This is just a

one second data pause. That means you have successfully changing your data-interval over

here. Reverting it back to its original value, it is 2000 milliseconds that

means 2 seconds, and the data-wrap is set to true that means this slider will cycle

through.

Now the final part is these captions over there. you need to get back to our first image

here. We can see that here is a caption and here's another paragraph over

here and that is why another particular div class is being used over here which is known

as carousel caption. Here we can see we are setting h3 here, we are setting

a p tag over here. So carousel caption is the div that will be used along to create

such caption inside your images. And in the same way in the same process you can

create a button over here, a sign in button.

So these are the things you need to keep in mind why you are creating your carousel images.

Now there's a lot of things which is now about to be discussed, such as

the customization. The first one is if we just press control -, we can see that this

image is getting in the extreme left position we need to make this image to take

over all the hundred percent of its div capacity where it is residing now. The thing will be

cleared over here. This is another project that is using the same

carousel slider here. Now if we Press control - here now we can see that these images are

getting at a hundred percent width. This thing could be a little bit handy

in many cases especially while using cross Browser preview of the same project. So the

4th point is which is to be done in this particular case is customization of

this carousel image slider and this is the thing that is going to be discussed in our
