Youtube daily report Aug 6 2017

[♪♩INTRO]

Somehow, there's another Sharknado movie, and somehow we still have science to talk

about… with Sharknado.

I promise it's going to be good.

So back in 2013, when this whole Sharknado phenomenon first started, we answered the

obvious question with the obvious answer: No, a sharknado is not possible.

For, like, lots of reasons.

But all the hype around Sharknado 5 — yes, five — got us thinking about the ending

of that first movie again.

Spoiler alert—ah, like you care—at the end of Sharknado, the main characters throw

bombs from a helicopter to stop the carnivorous whirlwinds.

Which, as you might guess, also would not work.

But the idea almost seems plausible, like, why not just blow up a tornado?

A little bit of background for you first, in the original Sharknado, a hurricane over

the Pacific Ocean creates a whole bunch of tornadoes -- waterspouts, technically -- filled

with sharks.

And tornadoes are just swirling winds, right?

So if you disrupt the winds and stop them from swirling, you should theoretically be

able to kill the tornado.

And what better way to disrupt a whole bunch of air than with the shock wave from a giant

explosion?

Right?

Well, this plan has some issues.

And the first one comes long before our heroes even get off the ground.

The tornadoes in the movie are strong enough to lift sharks out of the water and sling

them around Los Angeles like toothpicks.

And there is unfortunately no way that you'd be able to hover a helicopter to throw bombs

at a tornado if there's a tornado that strong next to you.

Helicopters usually aren't even safe in normal thunderstorms, because there are unpredictable

gusts of wind, and they need relatively stable air around their blades.

So the helicopter in the movie would be no match for the tornadoes it hovers near.

Sorry: the shark-nadoes.

But even if we ignore the physics of how helicopters fly and say we're going to drive a truck

into the tornado with a bomb, the end of Sharknado still does not hold up to reality -- because

of the physics of tornadoes themselves.

Scientists still aren't exactly sure why some storm systems produce tornadoes and others

don't, but they do know what kinds of conditions need to be present before one can form.

Mainly, they need currents of rotating air.

When you think of tornadoes, you probably just imagine that one funnel spinning around

a vertical axis, but there are lots of other air currents involved, moving in other directions,

too.

As a tornado forms, columns of warm, wet air quickly rise off the ground, dragging swirling

winds along with them.

When that warm air gets above the clouds, it spreads out and pushes the cooler, dryer

air out of its way and back toward the ground.

And the process repeats.

The winds speed up and pull together as more warm air rises and more cool air falls.

Eventually, they form the sideways whirlwinds that we imagine when we think of a tornado.

But those vertical winds don't stop once the tornado gets spinning; they continue throughout

the entire storm.

Even if a few bombs could stop the sideways winds on the outer layers of the sharknado,

they'd still have to stop all those huge, vertical convection currents to keep the storm

from roaring back to life.

And a couple small explosions on the outside of a huge tornado or cyclone won't really

do anything to stop the warm air rising in the center.

If anything, the heat from the explosions might make the center of the storm even warmer,

which would make it stronger instead of weaker.

But like, only barely.

Because that brings us to the third problem with this scheme: It would take a lot of energy

just to stop the outermost sideways winds.

Some of the strongest hurricanes and tornadoes on record had wind speeds of about three hundred

to four hundred kilometers per hour.

And huge air masses moving at those kinds of speeds have a lot of energy -- way more

energy than a bomb or two filled with propane.

It would take thousands of the bombs they use in the movie to even compete with the

energy in a powerful tornado.

Using a couple bombs per tornado, like they do in the movie, it wouldn't be a thing.

And with the added extra weight of ten thousand extra bombs on board, I'm guessing the helicopter

would have an awfully hard time getting off the ground in the first place.

However, the fact that a movie about shark-tornadoes gets its science wrong probably isn't a

huge surprise.

What may be more of a surprise is how much we can talk about science through the lens

of Sharknado.

I'm happy to keep doing it.

Looking forward to Sharknado 5, everybody.

#notsponsored, we're just excited.

Thanks for watching this episode of SciShow!

If, for some reason, you'd like to learn more about why sharknados definitely couldn't

happen, you can watch our episode from a few years ago.

And for all the others kinds of science that we talk about, it's not just sharknado here,

you can go to youtube.com/scishow there's more videos there.

Ridiculous Movie Castings That Never Should Have Happened - Duration: 6:25.

Trying to find the right actors for a film can be pretty difficult.

From the lead role, to an extra in the background, every decision is pivotal to a film's success.

In the following cases, the casting decisions were so terrible that it left a lasting impression

on us all, and not the one they were hoping for.

Unfortunately for these actors, they were caught in the crossfire for playing characters

that they just weren't right for.

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor

One of the all-time great comic book villains, Lex Luthor is right up there with Magneto

and Dr. Doom.

So when news broke that Jesse Eisenberg would play Superman's arch-enemy in Zack Snyder's

Batman versus Superman: Dawn of Justice, let's just say that fans weren't exactly pleased...

Things only got worse once people actually saw the film.

While DC fans and movie critics usually don't see eye to eye, almost everyone agreed that

Eisenberg was totally miscast as the Man of Steel's main villain.

Many believed that his interpretation of the character was far too manic, way too loud,

and too similar to a certain Clown Prince of Crime.

"Little red notes, big bang, you let your family die!"

While there's no denying Eisenberg is a brilliant actor, here's hoping his Lex Luthor stays

locked up for a long time.

"Ding ding ding ding ding" "Ding ding ding ding ding"

Scarlett Johansson as Major

One of the biggest casting scandals in recent history started in 2015, when the world learned

that Scarlett Johansson was cast as Major in a live-action remake of the 1995 film,

Ghost in the Shell.

The original is generally regarded as one of the greatest animes of all time.

One problem?

Major is Japanese.

Johansson is not.

The news of her casting sparked fury, not only by people who saw this as racially insensitive,

but by people who wanted an authentic film.

Over 100,000 people signed a petition in protest.

Advocacy Groups condemned the news, and soon #WhiteWashedOut was trending on Twitter.

The film ended up bombing at the box office and some suspect that the critical backlash

surrounding the whitewashing incident was the reason for it.

Hopefully, the Scarlett Johansson controversy will convince Hollywood to be a little more

diverse when it comes to casting—although it'll probably just inspire studios to stop

remaking anime movies altogether.

Mark Wahlberg as Elliot Moore

By and large, M. Night Shyamalan has a pretty solid track record when it comes to casting.

But as far as casting mistakes go, it doesn't get much worse than Mark Wahlberg in The Happening.

Put Wahlberg in the right film, you get movie gold.

But shove him into the wrong movie and you'll send your audience into the wrong kind of

hysterics.

And in this eco-thriller, Wahlberg is definitely in the wrong role, playing a panicked high

school science teacher with some of the worst line delivery in cinematic history.

"Plan on murdering me in my sleep."

"What? No!"

In all fairness, Shyamalan's script isn't doing Wahlberg any favors, but the actor does

bring an extra special awfulness to the film.

Even Wahlberg himself admitted the film wasn't his best work, saying that it was "a bad movie."

Still, we kind of sympathize with the guy; he probably just wanted to try something different.

"Just a second" "There were children in that room."

"Elliot please tell us what to do."

"I need a second.

Why can't anyone give me a goddamn second?"

Robert De Niro as The Creature

The legendary Robert De Niro's experienced a rare flop with his performance as "The Creature"

in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

Sure, he might've been less ridiculous if he had less ridiculous makeup, but the problems

didn't end there.

His portrayal was also panned for maintaining a modern New York accent in mid-1700s Geneva.

The fact that he was still the same "You talkin' to me" De Niro that we all know and love was

distracting at best and absolutely terrible at worst.

Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darin

When singer Bobby Darin died at 37, his legacy left a big impact on the music world.

Among his dedicated fans was Kevin Spacey, who spent more than a decade trying to make

Beyond The Sea, a bio-pic about Darin's life.

Most studios were reluctant to finance the film because Spacey wanted to produce, direct

and play the lead… even though he was significantly older than Darin.

Spacey stuck to his guns and eventually got the deal done with Lionsgate.

Many thought that he did a great job performing Darin's songs, but that there was something

weird about watching a man in his mid-40s playing a character in his late teens.

"You don't care about people hun, you don't give a damn about 'em."

New York Magazine wrote that Spacey was "too jowly" for the role, adding that it felt "downright

pervy" to watch his love scenes with Kate Bosworth.

So while you've got to give Spacey points for dedication, casting someone who wasn't

two decades too old for the part would've been a better move.

Jennifer Lawrence as Joy Mangano

Everybody knows Hollywood has a major problem when it comes to casting women over 30.

That means a lot of younger actresses get parts that are probably better suited for

ladies with a bit more life experience.

If you need proof, look no further than David O. Russell's casting of Jennifer Lawrence

in Joy.

This fact-based 2015 film focused on Joy Mangano, a 34-year-old single mom who overcame life's

obstacles by creating a self-wringing mop and finding success as a TV personality.

As the movie centers on a woman in her mid-30s, it might've worked better if the role had

gone to someone in that same age bracket.

Even Lawrence confessed she was too young for the role, but she justified it by saying

Russell doesn't worry about "silly questions" like age.

That sounds nice when you're getting high-profile parts, but "older" actresses might not think

those questions are quite so silly.

Sofia Coppola in the The Godfather: Part III

When Francis Ford Coppola made the decision to put his daughter Sofia in the role of Mary

Corleone in the third Godfather film, the results were disastrous.

Whereas the first two films in the Godfather trilogy were exceptionally good, Part III

was a mess.

Her stiffness on-screen was palpable, especially in the moments when she shared the screen

with her more established co-stars.

"Dad?"

Mickey Rooney as Mr. Yunioshi

File this one under "never again".

Mickey Rooney's cartoonish portrayal of Mr. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany's is basically

unwatchable.

Rooney was widely respected, thanks to the rest of his immense body of work, but the

image of him wandering around with taped eyelids and large false teeth is hard to unsee.

So much so that the film, which is otherwise revered for Audrey Hepburn's iconic lead performance,

has been consistently hit with backlash for its cultural stereotyping.

How to Make Spicy Thai Basil Chicken ~ Easy Spicy Healthy Thai Chicken Stir Fry - Duration: 4:06.

Tonight I'm going to show you how to make an easy and delicious Thai dinner.

I'm Tess and this video recipe is spicy Thai basil chicken. (intro music)

I'm prepping everything before I start cooking as this goes quickly. You want to

have everything ready and at hand. And you'll be able to find this recipe, the

list of ingredients and much more in the show more section below. If you have a

chance please check it out.

I'm starting by preparing the chicken. I have a boneless chicken breast that I'm

cutting up into fine pieces and then giving it a good rough chop. Yes, you can

use chicken thighs and yes, you can use a large knife for this step. The roughly

chopped chicken makes small random size pieces and gives this dish a unique texture.

If need be you can use ground chicken for this recipe.

I'm going to use lots of fresh Thai basil in this dish and you can find this

at your local Asian market. I also have some fresh bean sprouts I need to use so

I'm giving them a rough chop. The bean sprouts will add to the texture to this dish.

The sauce is real simple. A little oyster

sauce, dark soy sauce and light soy sauce. I'm also adding in a little sugar. (and a little water)

The dark soy sauce will give this dish that beautiful color. Giving that a good mix.

I have my wok on medium-high and I'm adding in a little oil, lots of minced

garlic, some chopped red chillies for spiciness and some onions. I have the

whites of garden onions in there and I'll be using the greens later.

Stirring and cooking for a minute. It's smelling good already!

Now I'm turning my heat up to high. In goes my chopped chicken, stirring and

cooking until no longer pink and this is going to take a couple of minutes. (actually 3-4 minutes)

Now I'm adding in my bean sprouts and stirring for 15 seconds to get mixed.

Next is the sauce. Cooking and stirring for a minute to get well combined.

I wish you were here to smell this! And we're almost done. I'm turning off the

heat, adding in the chopped green onions and the Thai basil. I couldn't decide if

I wanted to leave the basil whole or give it a chop so I'm adding both.

The basil is the highlight of this dish and really adds a pop and brightness of flavor.

Giving everything a toss and it's ready to eat.

Serving tonight with some steamed jasmine rice. This is optional but I'm

also topping with a sprinkle of dried garlic for a little crunch and pop and

some more green onions. This Thai basil chicken is easy, flavorful and addicting!

I love the texture of the chicken. Just the right balance of spiciness with the

pop of basil. If you wanted you could also brighten the flavor with a little

squeeze of lime. I hope you give this spicy Thai basil chicken dinner a try...

and enjoy.

Philantropy: It's Better to Give than to Receive | Family Matters by Tony Layton - Duration: 5:26.

It's better to give than receive...or so the saying goes.

But when it comes to managing your wealth, the good news is you can do both...you can

give and receive at the same time.

That's because our governments offer generous tax incentives to encourage you to make charitable

donations.

So you can make the world a better place by supporting your favourite charity and get

some help with your tax planning.

It's a great way to share your good fortune with others and leave a legacy for future

generations.

And that's a cause I can get behind.

I'm Tony Layton, and in this episode of Family Matters, I'm going to explain how

you can do well by doing good through charitable donations.

It costs Canadian taxpayers about 5 billion dollars a year for federal and provincial

tax incentives to encourage giving to registered charities, including humanitarian, religious

and educational organizations.

And Canadians need the encouragement.

A recent study by the Fraser Institute found that giving dropped to a 10-year low in 2014.

Just 21 per cent of Canadians claimed charitable donations on their tax returns, down from

25 per cent in 2004.

The size of the average donation also dropped.

By comparison, American givers were two and a half times more generous than Canadians.

Of course, each person decides for themselves whether they want to give, how much and to

which charitable cause.

But charitable donation tax credits are available to everyone as long as they're giving to

a charity recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency.

The tax credit calculation is a bit complicated...but for every dollar you give, you get back around

50 cents -- depending on your province of residence and marginal tax rate.

In other words, your favorite charity gets every penny you donate and you get tax savings

that add up to half of what you donate.

But it gets better.

You don't have to donate cash.

You can also give other assets to registered charities, including publicly traded securities

such as individual stocks and bonds as well as exchange traded funds and mutual funds.

When you give these type of securities, you can get even more tax relief for your buck.

First, you get the charitable donation tax credit based on the fair market value of the

securities.

Second, any capital gains accrued on those securities is eliminated, so you need to have

to pay tax on them.

And that's why donating shares with large capital gains is one of the preferred methods

of giving for our clients at PWL.

And it doesn't end at shares.

You can also get a tax credit and the elimination of the capital gain on a donation of ecologically

sensitive land to a qualified organization.

In Quebec, there are also tax incentives for donations to registered art and cultural organizations.

For wealthier clients, it makes sense to set up a family foundation, but that's a

subject for a future episode.

Personally, I'm grateful for my good fortune and all I have been able to achieve in Canada

over the course of my career.

Through my charitable donations, I try do my part in making this world a better place.

For example, I support the Nature Conservancy of Canada, the country's leading land conservation

organization.

Since 1962, N-C-C and its partners have helped conserve 2.8 million acres of ecologically

significant land from coast to coast.

I support NCC because I believe it's important to be a good steward of Canada's natural

heritage; to preserve it for generations to come.

I also support McGill's school of business and a number of Quebec arts organizations.

Wherever, you decide to give, it makes sense to take the time to consider how your giving

can do the most good and produce the most tax savings...so you can give even more next

year. Make sure to subscribe and click on the bell icon

HOW TO GAIN YOUR FIRST 100 SUBSCRIBERS WITH PROOF! - Duration: 9:35.

my name is Mai from YouTube channel Mai and today I'm going to be showing you

guys give you guys some tips and tricks on how to get your first hundred

subscribers within a week easily so here you guys can see a stats from one of my

old channels which I do not upload on anymore but last month it still got

10,000 views number 31 subscribers without me actively uploading as you

guys can see right here here are a bunch of popular uploads so you can see which

this one was almost reached 60,000 this one at week 30,000 is not reached 25,000

and it goes on and on and on and on like that videos might be old but they're

still getting views on a daily basis which is nice and now I'm going to be

giving you guys away the secret on how to get these amount of views without

actually having to upload as much because the videos will progressively

get a lot more views over time without you having to do anything tip number one

a regular upload schedule so one thing that I noticed a lot over many agents

uploading YouTube videos is that uploading regular and quality content

actually does get you a lot more views than just uploading random YouTube

videos or just uploading for long gameplays from video games which is

something that used to work back in the day but nowadays it's mostly quality and

click babe or just pure clickbait and just dislike one of the things that

always works pretty well on how to get views is mostly things likes guides how

to get more FPS you know how to do certain things in tutorials like

Photoshop or Adobe Premiere Pro or Ableton Live or Adobe Edition programs

like that sometimes people have difficulty with those and there are lots

of tutorials out there already but those videos are ten minutes long while these

things are easily achievable within a matter of one or two or maybe even four

minutes but usually people just stretch them out as long as possible with long

intros long messages long SUBSCRIBE questions etc like that like please

subscribe simply just to make more money make video game guys for example and

keep them short I swear to god subscribers will flow in very easily

because you're not going after all the ad revenue the only thing that you're

doing is simply showing them how it's done which is definitely what people

appreciate nowadays in YouTube a lot more than just simply

try to stretch the video to a 10 minute mark and get more ad revenue tip number

2 stick to one thing for example if you're making tutorials stick to making

tutorials I have noticed that with other channels in the past I noticed that

people were disliking certain videos I was making battlefield feeders in the

past about the Battlefield series battlefield one two or three and then I

suddenly started playing Call of Duty again and people started to dislike

those videos just because I was a battlefield channel back then my content

was a hundred and focused on one video game and that's how it grew my channel

with Let's Plays and mostly battlefield tips and tricks videos a good example

that I have right now is captain sparkle for example he is done minecraft super

long on the CaptainSparklez channel before that on you pros don't talk shit

channel he used to do Call of Duty video but now that he's a big youtube channel

he's uploading whatever he wants and even as extra channels to upload other

content so if you want to upload more content create multiple channels but try

to maintain the content regularly so do not get like 4 channels one clogging

channel one gameplay channel and one blank stream channel for example that's

not going to work out so please focus on one channel at a time or maybe two if

you can actually handle a busy schedule tip number three promote your YouTube

video so there are Google+ pages out there Facebook groups and special

Twitter accounts that will promote your YouTube videos once you either tweet at

them or join these groups on Google+ there are literally thousands of them

out there with over 200,000 members also met it is one of these places if you're

a let's player go to Reddit there are lots of subreddits out there that will

help you grow your channel mainly because they have a big audience of

people actually watch these videos Google+ has communities out there with

over 200,000 members that you can easily join you will get feedback from those

people on how to improve your channel and how to improve your videos as well

and these people are always trying to help you out maybe you can even

collaborate with these peeps if number 4 do not try to make any money off of it

especially not in the first place if that's your goal you're probably not

going to grow much because people will notice when you're going after the money

buy click baiting lots and yes I've done these things in the past in order to

grow my channel and it did work but it didn't pay out in the long run because

people will eventually go inactive because they

stop caring betting on people actually leave because you started click dating I

have people leave my channel mainly because they started uploading GTA 5

videos while they were subscribed for the battlefield videos so please stick

to one thing especially when you're small and you will definitely grow tip

number five be family-friendly if you've got a family-friendly channel you'll get

a lot more traffic sent to your channel because your channels being viewed by

all ages instead of 18 plus people and people who actually have family-friendly

few disabled and the last tip that I got for you guys promote your channel here

down below I will definitely be sure to check out your YouTube channel just

because I would like to help you guys out now one of the few things I would

like to mention those that sub4sub will help grow your channel well your

subscriber count but not your active viewers you will not get more active

viewers now it doesn't really matter how big your audience is right now

eventually you will feel the need to grow because it is a big motivation when

your channel is growing but be sure to make use of social media like Twitter

and Facebook and Google+ these pages have so many viewers so many people

clicking and watching on it and sharing ideas YouTube actually has special

forums where you can ask for help make good use of all of these things because

they're free and they're definitely a very helpful tool that you can use

anyways guys if you guys enjoyed this video if it was any helpful to you guys

please leave a like if it didn't please tell me how to improve my channel other

than that I hope to see you guys later don't forget to Like and subscribe it'll

leave a comment down below and also leave your channel down below promote

yourself and I'll be sure to check it out see you guys later and don't forget

to subscribe peace out guys get it and enjoy your date evening or night peas up

I'm going to let the gameplay roll and get the music going please

Why Jeff Erdmann Thinks He Can Win in CD2 Interview Highlights - Duration: 3:58.

When you see the number of losses that the democratic party has, you change approaches,

you change strategies.

And so, the strategy of having the multimillionaire out there and raising all kinds of money 'cause

they've got all kinds rich friends, and that type of thing,

that hasn't gone very well for us.

The democrats have lost the US House, the US Senate, the presidency.

66% of our states, Republicans hold the majority in both chambers in those states.

That's two-thirds.

So we need a different approach, and I think our party needs a more authentic approach.

If we are truly going to be the party that says that we are for the working class people

and we want to be that working voice to represent their interests, well then we should be able

to have candidates that come from those working class values, that live it on a day-to-day

basis for years and years.

I'm coming from a situation where I have chosen to have a career of service.

I'm serving the communities, the families in my communities.

And people that want to go do research on me, they can go into New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva,

Cannon Falls, Winona, and Rosemount and ask, "What's this guy like?

Is this guy a good guy?

Is he fair?

Does he do his job well?

Does he work hard?

Does he treat people with respect?"

They can go learn about me.

And I think the more that people do that, I think the more that's gonna help in our

bid to get where we need to get to.

There's a reason I'm doing this, because I think that I'm a better candidate than Angie Craig.

I think the voters of district CD2, I think they deserve to have competition.

Last go around, Angie (inaudible), self-funded a big chunk.

This is what happens in politics, is that you see wealthy people come in and they can

write a big check for themselves to loan themselves money, and then competition goes away and

in a sense, they have no competition and they get the endorsement.

I don't think that's good for the democratic process.

When Stuart Mills goes and tries to buy an election, when Betsy DeVos tries to go and

buy a seat as Secretary of Education, I don't think that's okay.

And when other candidates try to do that, I don't think that's okay.

Especially when you're trying to represent the Democratic Party, which is supposed to

be kind of against the influence of big money and trying to buy and lessen or reduce, the

voice of the people.

This last trimester I had a couple students make the comment that the United States, the

whole purpose of our country, is for us to make as much money as possible.

And I said, "Whoa, no, no, no, no.

That's not what our country's about.

That's selfish."

They shared with me the next day, they brought in a letter, and they didn't like that I referred

to that stance as being selfish.

And then they had some quotes from Adam Smith's 'The Wealth of Nations', which promotes the

business perspective quite a bit.

We arranged a time to meet, and I went and got some other excerpts from 'The Wealth of

Nations' that talked about greed, talked about the need for regulation, the role of regulation

of government to have a balanced society, and we had some conversation about that.

And then I also talked to them about ... Showed them the Declaration of Independence and the

Constitution, and we talked about where in there, go and find how many times capitalism

is mentioned.

And it's not.

We talked about 'The Wealth of Nations' was published in 1776 and that's kind of a magical

day, and so it wasn't that that influenced our country.

But the big concern and fear from this is students watch what's happening in society,

and they think, "Oh, America's about climbing to the top.

And whatever you have to do to the people down here to get to the top, that's what our

country's about."

I don't think that's what our country is about, and I'm hoping that there's other Americans

that think the same way.
