How Do Polarized Sunglasses Work?! - Duration: 6:22.

How the heck does that work?!

Hey Crazies.

If you've ever looked through polarized sunglasses, you might have noticed some weird stuff

Like a difficulty seeing your phone screen.

I'm sure your reaction was a lot like Question Clone's.

What the Fraunhofer?!?!

I've got an answer for you and, as usual, there will be lots of details.

Because asylum crazies think deep!

The lenses in polarized sunglasses are coated in a material called a polarizer because it

polarizes light.

Scientists tend to name things more descriptively than creatively.

Anyway, this leaves us with a logical place to start:

What does it mean to polarize light?

To answer that, we need to review a little.

Light is often shown to be an electromagnetic wave like this.

Since the electric part has more influence over things, we tend to focus more attention

on that.

We call that direction the wave's polarization.

What do you mean it has influence over things?

What things?

Atoms.

Well, parts of atoms.

Here's the train of thought: Atoms are made of charges.

Charges respond to electric fields.

Light has an electric field.

Therefore, by the transitive property, atoms respond to light.

We've been talking a lot lately about electrons absorbing light and jumping to higher energy

levels.

In a solid, that extra energy is not likely to be re-emitted as light.

It's far more likely to be transferred to nearby atoms making them jiggle faster,

warming up the solid instead.

Polarizers are more like glass.

They transmit visible light.

They don't hold onto it.

Their atoms don't have the right energy levels for that.

However, by the argument we just made, the atoms should still respond to the

light somehow.

Let's take a closer look at this glass.

SUPER ZOOM!!!

This silicon atom is made of a nucleus surrounded by a cloud of electrons.

The nucleus is positively charged and the cloud negatively charged, so they'll respond

in opposite directions.

Now say some light comes in with an electric field or polarization like this.

The nucleus will move with this and the cloud of electrons will move against it.

Since the nucleus is 1000s of times more massive than the cloud, the cloud's motion dominates.

But that motion is accelerated and accelerating charges emit light.

The motion of that electron cloud will generate its own light and transmit that light out

the back side of the glass.

The outgoing light is polarized along the direction the cloud was vibrating,

which is the same direction as the incoming light.

Polarizers work a little differently.

SUPER ZOOM!

The molecules in a polarizer form long chains.

Those chains are tightly bound which limits motion along the chain.

If we send in the same light as before, something different happens.

The cloud of electrons vibrates significantly more perpendicular to the chain,

even if that doesn't match the polarization of the light.

We call that perpendicular direction the polarizer's axis.

The motion of that electron cloud will still generate its own light and still transmit

that light out the back side of the material.

That outgoing light must still be polarized along the direction of the wiggle,

but now that's a new direction.

There's just one weird problem left to address.

The light that comes from a lightbulb or the Sun is said to be unpolarized.

UNPOLARIZED!?!?!

How can an EM wave NOT have an electric part?

How is that even possible!?!

Because "light" and a "light beam" are not the same thing.

This is not a beam of light.

A beam is actually a large collection of EM waves, so it can have different properties

than a single EM wave.

Polarization is just an example of one of those properties.

While one EM wave must have an electric direction and, therefore, must have a polarization

the beam is made of many of these waves.

If their electric pieces kind of line up, then we say the beam is polarized.

But if they're all oriented randomly, the directions cancel and we can say the beam

is unpolarized.

The beam is what you get when you add all those waves together.

It's just easier to focus on individual waves now and then try make predictions about

the beam later.

So let's do that.

Consider this polarizer with this axis.

Suddenly a light wave comes in with an electric part in this direction.

The polarizer will still pass this portion of that electric arrow.

That portion is smaller than the original, so that wave comes out a little dimmer.

If the beam passing through the polarizer is unpolarized, like sunlight, then the same

amount is going to get blocked no matter how the polarizer is turned.

That's because you've got some waves like this

and some waves like this

and some waves like this.

We say, on average, about 50% of the light gets through, but, in practice, it's more

like 38% because no polarizer is perfect.

Polarized sunglasses have another added benefit.

Glare Reduction!

You know, that obnoxious bright light from things like cars.

Anyway, there's a reason it happens.

Light comes in from the Sun and reflects.

Most of it scatters giving us color, but, at angles around Brewster's angle, the reflected

light is polarized parallel to the surface.

This light can create some very bright reflections

and it's almost completely blocked by our polarized sunglasses.

That's because the axis of your glasses is perpendicular to the polarization of light.

You can see the same thing when two polarizers are perpendicular.

The light from a lot of LCD screens is also polarized at 45 degrees,

so only half the light gets through your sunglasses.

If you turn the sunglasses, you can make the screen appear darker or lighter.

So to summarize: Polarized sunglasses use long chains of molecules

that can only vibrate in one direction, to block a little over half of normal light

and almost all glare.

Plus, they're super stylish.

What's the weirdest thing you've noticed looking through polarized sunglasses?

Please share in the comments.

Also, to everyone who is wondering:

WHAT ABOUT PHOTONS?!

Don't freak out!

It's coming!

It's just that, without this video, the video on photons would have come off a little abstract.

I had to make this one first.

Anyway, thanks for watching!

Last Jedi Rain Scene & Rey's Force Vision Theory (Possible Spoilers) - Duration: 3:44.

Rey's force vision is one of the most perplexing scenes from the Force Awakens

and the rain scene in particular is quite intriguing. In this video I'm going

to break this scene down as much as possible and throw my speculations in.

There may be potential spoilers in this video for The Last Jedi. Let's start with

the script from the movie, it says: We push in on Rey as rain begins and day

turns to night as she looks up we tilt up to see we're looking up at a warrior

he is stabbed by a fiery lightsaber he screams and falls to the ground. We

follow him revealing Rey again now in a nighttime battlefield. She gets to her

feet frightened by what she sees. We pivot around her to reveal Kylo Ren and

the six other Knights of Ren who flank him. At first glance this appears to be

one continuous scene but I think it is actually two separate scenes. The warrior

attacking Rey I believe may be in the future. Kylo Ren steps in from behind to

stop this attack. Take note here that Kylo Ren is wearing his robes and has

the cloak over his helmet. When the warrior falls to the ground and Rey

begins to stand up the scene has switched to what I believe is the past.

Kylo Ren and the six Knights of Ren are standing in a battle field, notice he's

wearing his helmet uncloaked and he begins to walk forward but he's not

actually walking directly towards Rey he's going to walk past her.

I think the force is showing her a glimpse of this battlefield through the

lightsaber just like the other scenes with Luke and R2D2. Could the warrior

scene be someone who was sent to kill Rey or Luke and Kylo Ren shows up

stopping the attack? In the new teaser trailer from the Last Jedi Rey is in the

rain with her lightsaber I noticed something else look closely at this clip.

Do you see the red light reflecting in the scene? That appears to be the light from

Kylo Ren's lightsaber and the scene is being played in reverse. This is the

scene played in the correct way. Could this scene be her vision? Rey is looking

downwards at someone or something on the ground then she lowers her lightsaber

and looks up at someone else. The person who was standing in front of her is

actually Kylo Ren. I think the vision is somewhat prophetic like her vision in

the snowy forest we see Rey running into Kylo Ren with his lightsaber. In the

future we know that happens at the end of the Force Awakens but he wasn't

wearing his helmet in those scenes and she didn't run into him in this exact

way, but the vision is revealing to her that they will have an encounter in the

future. I also think Kylo Ren has had similar visions. I wonder if he saw Rey

wielding his grandfather's lightsaber in a vision of his own and that is why

he says in the force awakens novel "It is you." He also shows a very keen interest

in the girl before he meets her face-to-face. What do you think of these

scenes? I hope we will have some answers from the visions in the Last Jedi.

If you like this video please give it a thumbs up, subscribe to my channel if you

teacher tries to slap kid... then this happens...

Yo, what's going on guys it's the kid with big eyes here and today

We are going to be doing something a little bit different than my usual content, so instead of gaming today

we're gonna be reacting to some teachers and

Students fighting and arguing and overall just causing a lot of drama now if you find this video entertaining

Please give the video a like down below, and if you're new to my channel. Please remember to subscribe for more daily content

Let's do that guys laughs at the end

Real quickly before we move on to the next clip

I just want to say everything featured in this video is coming from a compilation

So I'll be sure to have that linked in my description below

Why is he yelling I don't understand the content

What do you what I can't tell if these guys extremely mad or if he's just a loud talker

Honestly that class right there is just like so

Obnoxious like the kid wasn't saying anything funny

I don't know what he did to make the teacher mad, but I honestly feel bad for the teacher there

He doesn't even care she's pissed

Ok so I'm sure I'm not the only person who can relate to this

But it seemed like whenever I was at high school in middle school

Whenever someone got in trouble if the teacher started yelling I had to try so hard to not burst out laughing

Like seeing other people get in trouble. It just made me laugh, but I am sure

You just have no respect for anybody

including yourself Oh

Dropping some hearing on this did it make you wonderful

if you

Well, let's not go there

But you know what it says ba doesn't it and you are not being obedient want to see a dog. It's supposed to be obedient

The kids not a dog doesn't have to be obedient damn the roasted

You they just turned on her class oh my god

What is he I

Was in I would be bursting out laughter

Okay, I have to stop the video here this teacher his voice is absolutely pissing me off and I know my voice pisses a lot

Of you off, but this guy there's something about him. He just the teacher seems so arrogant. That's the simplest way to put it

This class looks very young

This teachers drop-in Jeff Beck's honest

And I like all the entire class class is laughing

Do this dudes like 12 and he's kicking him out a class

I was expecting these kids to be a lot older, but look at him

This is like a little child just getting flamed by his teacher

Now guys that was the final clip for this video

If you enjoyed this reactionist style video, please remember to give the video a like down below, but guys this has been eclipse

Thank you for watching and peace out

The Truly Sick Thing Donna Brazile Just Did On Live TV Would Make Any Warm Blooded Person Shudder In - Duration: 3:11.

The Truly Sick Thing Donna Brazile Just Did On Live TV Would Make Any Warm Blooded Person

Shudder In Horror.

Former Interim Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee Donna Brazile has had an

interesting week.

First, she released an excerpt of her new book: Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-Ins

and Breadowns that Put Donald Trump in the White House to Politico, blasting the Hillary

Clinton campaign for putting a financial stranglehold on the DNC that all but ensured her primary

victory as early as 2015.

This news set off an explosion of Democratic infighting that exposed the deep fissures

between moderates and progressives within the party.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) and Senator Elizabeth Warren each came out stating they thought

the DNC primary was slanted against Hillary's only serious primary challenger Bernie Sanders.

Make no mistake, however, Brazile isn't any kind of hero- this is the same woman who

was accused of and openly admitted to leaking debate questions to Hillary Clinton during

her race against now-president Trump.

Brazile just proved her lack of moral fiber again in an interview on ABC's "This Week,"

talking about her DNC-shattering claims.

She started off by bizarrely stating that she found "no evidence, none whatsoever"

that the Democratic primaries were rigged, directly contradicting her own book that stated

the DNC was "rigging the system" in favor of Clinton.

But then it gets even weirder.

Brazile proved how out of touch and insensitive the Democrats really are with this bizarre

statement about getting hacked during the election:

"This was worse than Hurricane Katrina in terms of the emotional toll."

Wow.

Just wow.

Can you imagine if a Republican said something like that?

Brazile literally said that John Podesta's email leaks were more emotionally taxing than

a humanitarian crisis that led to the deaths

of 1,833 people.

Totally insane.

Fábio & Nuno 32 The Audition Competition (EN.ES.FR) - Duration: 10:54.

What does he want now?

What's wrong?

- They've changed the time for the audition.

- That's a very good one! You're trying to fool me! For me to miss the audition! But you should give up, girl! I'm still going to win it!

- I've got the information from a reliable source... If you don't believe me, then ask Olívia.

- Good idea, baby boy! That's exactly what I'm gonna do!

I can't believe this: first I get a giant pimple and now... I almost break my legs!

This people want to finish me off! But, they won't succeed! They won't!

Were you hiding there?

- I wasn't hidden... How do you want me to pee? Standing up?

- Pal, calm down! - I'm sorry!

- "I'm sorry!" You're really silly, pal! - Are you gonna start it?

- Silly!...

- I told you before: It's not my fault! I didn't know that we were going to audition for the same character!

I swear! - Oh, you didn't know... You've persuaded teacher Olívia, so you could compete with me! That's the truth!

But, if you think your little tricks will work, you better stop believing!

- You can't be well... Are you listening to yourself? Is it my fault that you forgot the extra pair of shoes for you to change after school?

- Pal... Don't you change the subject! We're not talking about that, got it?

Besides... I guess nobody noticed... - Oh, of course:

Nobody noticed a man walking on high heels in the middle of the streets! It's the most discreet thing in the world!

- It is, isn't it? I DON'T KNOW! I'm not used to it! Perhaps you know better than me! - Stop your nonsenses, Fábio!

- André, I'll win the role anyway! Got it? Yeah, because the panel of judges was amazed with my talent...

Pal, are you listening?... You're getting into my nerves!

I think you should call them to cancel your audition! I think it's ridiculous that you're competing for the same role as me! Impersonating a real man doesn't suits you!

- First of all: You're not the one who decides what kind of roles suit me better!

Second: I'm an actor!... A quite versatile one!

And Third: You're feeling much more threatened by me, somebody who you don't even consider a real man, than by any other!

- It's not that! - Really? - Really! - What is it, then?

Just admit that you feel threatened by me, pal! - Look, I only admit that this conversation won't take us anywhere, ok?

- I just hope it's good. I waited for so long that I don't wanna be disappointed!

- Alright, it's official, my girl friend! The post for food critic of this house was officially stolen from Fábio, by this great silly boy!

- It's not that... But, Paula did the cooking, so... - What's the problem, Jorge?

- None at all! In the kitchen, you're like your mom! Oh, this house misses her foods so much!

- That's true! I've learned a lot with her... Even some secret recipes...

- So, is Fábio not coming for dinner? - I don't know and I don't wanna know! One of these days, I'll get urticaria (hives) just by hearing his name!

- What's going on, now? - Today we attended the audition for the movie and we found out that we were competing for the same role.

But, teacher Olívia didn't tell us that part...

- I can imagine how he must have reacted... - He became a WILD ANIMAL!!!

Then, this little dinner won't be enough for him! It has to be a huge boar loin for him to sate his furious rage!

- That would be better, for sure! He surely is willing to go out on the streets and start biting everyone!

- Tell us: how was the audition for you?

- Not bad... - But, tell us: How was it?

- At first I was afraid to forget my lines, but in the right time, the words came out of my mouth and I guess it was good!

- Good! What about Fábio's?

- Fábio had to make the audition in high heels!

- But, dressing as a man or as a woman? - Dressing as a man, but with high heels!

- No way! Come on! Tell us everything! - Ok, imagine that...

- Thank you so much, ladies and gentlemen...

It's a great honor to receive this award with all my heart!

It was a long hard journey... But, during all the way...

What number is this, man?... Hello.

Yes, it's me!

From where?

Yes! Yes! From the audition! Sure!

- I didn't make it? Oh... Sure... I understand...

Yeah, but... A person always have some hopes, right?

Yes, yes... I'm the one says "Thank you"! Sure, you can save my contacts! Thank you!

Oh, I can't stand that lunatic!

- I knew it! - About what?

- This guy would never bring me luck!

- So, I'm the one to blame? - Of course! But, it didn't end up well for you either! Not too bad!

- Fábio, how can you say those things? - You could show some understanding!

- "Understanding"? What for? If I had been defeated by him, yes: that would have been a disaster!

- I'm not even going to answer... - Yeah, it's not worth...

- Look, if you hadn't closed yourself to rehearse all alone in the bedroom, maybe both of us could have won the roles in the movie!

- Are you raving, or what? We were both running for the same role! Are you fool? HELLO???

- Yeah, but if you guys were really good actors, they could have found characters for both of you!

- Come on, guys! The most important thing is to not discourage yourselves... You'll have much more auditions to go to!

- Of course! I think positively! - Good, André! Go ahead, ok? But, away from me!

- "Away from me!"

I'll have better luck next time! - Exactly! You did your best! That's the spirit: Keep going! Don't give up!

- Yeah, teacher... I didn't have any issues with that. What happened is perfectly normal.

- Seriously, Fábio? Very well! That's the best way to think about it! - Yeah, but the problem is that I forgot my sneakers and I had to make the audition in high heels.

It's not easy at all, teacher!

- You need to be more careful next time, Fábio. - Yeah... I think so.

But, I think that they should have appreciated what I did! Only an expert could have made the audition as I did!

- Are you making excuses, Fábio? - Me? No! I was just saying that...

- You guys have to be ready for the bad part of the showbiz... A lot of people never succeed. Sometimes quality is left behind. There are a lot of factors...

- That's bad, teacher... - Yeah, but you guys need to work hard until your door opens...

- You're right... - You're right, teacher... It's just like you said it. - Alright, then. Be strong! It only depends on yourselves!

- T... t... t... teacher, I didn't have any i... i... issues with that!

- Pal! Shut up, ok?

- It's so early for you to be here!

- I know... It seems a miracle! What about you? Did you come running to make the most out of teacher Olívia's last day in the school?

Don't tell me that you're still trying to get her!

- I thought you had forgotten about that. - Really? But, we made a real bet, man!

Don't tell me you wanna give up! - Me? No way! Don't you think that you're gonna win, ok? - Oh, really?

Consider yourself warned. - Dude, until the moment she puts her little feet in the plane, the dices are still rolling on the table!

- You're such a fool, pal...

- This is full of people! - Yeah, they have been working on a little show for your farewell...

- Oh, that's why you didn't let me... - Exactly! I'm sorry if I disturbed you...

- Oh, no problem... I'm just thrilled...

Suan Phueng to Kanchanaburi - Day 4 - Duration: 11:23.

Long Way Long Time, Day 4.

It was a rough evening last night.

Temperature dropped down from 24 down to 17 degrees.

Beds were really hard.

Mattresses were about two inches thick.

And we are about to leave, hopefully get some warm food.

We need to stop by a pharmacy so Pam can get some medicine,

Alice.

...Alice can get some medicine.

I have married her by the way.

And we need to start rolling out

because it looks like an equal distance of 300 kilometers today.

We want to see the, I want to see the waterfall so

It's just 1 kilometer from here.

I think it would a shame if we, so close, and we miss it you know.

Definitely don't have enough time to check the viewpoint.

Which is...mmm too bad but

hopefully we can do it another way, another time

Takes an hour to get up there and an hour to get down right?

Yeah, it's pretty rough. Some part is like water, you gotta have a four wheel drive

Can't really go with the bike.

Yeah, and then we're gonna head on to Sangkhla Buri.

The town underwater today.

You ready?

Alice: Yep. Kevin: Let's go!

Man: What can I get you? Alice: 91 please.

Man: How much? Kevin: Full tank please.

[We saw a gated checkpoint and decided to stop.]

[Alice is asking the best way to get to the next point.]

He said we can go this way or that way.

Similar distance.

That way seems more exciting.

It's just more difficult that way

to go that way past the...

umm

...the village.

[Alice is asking which way is more scenic.]

[The soldier eventually told us it's through the checkpoint.]

[So we went through.]

So we're stopping here on the side of the road.

We're about 162 kilometers out from the final destination.

Making better time than I thought.

This road is in very good condition.

And as you can see people are just flying by.

We should be seeing the underwater city sometime today.

Almost made it to the national park.

We stopped off at this great coffee place.

Sign behind.

And we met the Colonel.

Who adopted us into the clan.

Super nice, super friendly.

Here is his beautiful place.

Right behind us.

Offroad.

Offroad Coffee.

Offroad Coffee and Dessert.

[Pam got us a place to stay on the lake.]

This will be interesting.

Do you want to explain where we're going?

So we are staying at one of the raft house

in the dam lake.

and

pretty much.

I got the dam water on my face.

[I laugh.]

It's a dam.

[The floating raft house.]

Alice: Do you want to go to the shop? Kevin: Yeah.

Once we go to the shop and we come back

she will go back on the island and they will give us electricity.

The boat captain is kindly taking us to the floating convenience store

where we can get some snacks

and they've also got dinner coming for us

and breakfast tomorrow morning.

What can I get you?

Can we look at your food?

You sure can.

What's your dog's name?

His name's Milo.

Milo.

Would you like some Lays?

The flavor you like and then they got the flavor I like.

Or just one?

We can get a few.

Really?

[Alice is asking the boat captain what it's like to live here.]

[I'm pretty sure the captain says it's nice.]

The water is cold.

I have tried.

Oh, look at that.

That's beautiful.

What are you thinking.

We can look at the stars out here.

Kevin: We can lay out here and look at the stars all night.

If we can see because it looks like almost full moon.

Look at that.

Want to see my two-tone feet?

From the ride?

Kevin: Is this dinner?

Alice: No.

Kevin: Oh, I thought she was bringing dinner.

Alice: No, don't think so.

She's turning on the electricity.

Kevin: Ah, the electricity.

It's the evening of day 4.

We have travelled

somewhere around 300 kilometers.

This morning we started off

the highlight was having

some wild honey.

Oh, very good local noodles

and the wild honey and lemon

I wish we could pack 10 of them

so my voice would be better.

What this country needs is pharmacies on the back roads.

We got on one of the main highways to

Kanchanaburi

and then where we are is Wachiralongkorn Dam.

Before we got to Watchirat Dam

Wachiralongkorn

we ran across this coffe place called Offroad Coffee

where we met the Colonel.

Alice: Awe, he was very nice.

who has been in the military since 1955.

He has served in Korea

Cambodia

Laos

Japan

Japan and

Those are just the places that he can talk about.

He is 81 years old now when we met him today.

Told us amazing stories.

He gave us this.

And he told us, "Put this on the motorcycle."

"You won't get stopped by any of the police."

We couldn't put it anywhere on the motorcycle

so we've got it on the bag

and so far the police have not stopped us.

The biggest highlight of the day so far is

not being able to check into the national park.

We could have driven an extra 30 kilometers to the border

where the underwater town is

or backtrack 1 kilometer

to this area

What the underwater town name?

District?

What's the district name?

2017 Attitude Awards Finalists - Duration: 28:52.

Welcome everybody to the very first Attitude Awards.

(APPLAUSE)

For the past 10 years, the Attitude Awards have celebrated

the outstanding achievements

of New Zealanders who live with disabilities and health challenges.

Thank you.

(CHEERING)

In the 10-year history of the awards,

more than 80 Kiwis have received the nation's applause as category

winners.

And the Attitude Hall of Fame has given lasting recognition

to those who've spent their lives supporting the disability community.

A upane, ka upane, whiti te ra!

ALL CHANT: Hi!

It's time to meet the finalists of the 2017 Attitude Awards.

(WHOOSH!)

(DRUMBEAT)

(WHOOSH!)

Sort of always wanted to know how stuff works.

Catherine is a first-year university student who's passionate about

physics.

My big one's magnets, rotational mechanics, that's fun, and also

the electrical conductivity stuff.

Catherine became paralysed when she was a baby.

She's had multiple operations, and complications like scoliosis has led

to limited mobility.

But it's created a fascination with science.

One of the good ones was when I was younger and X-rays, why do you have

to stay still for X-rays?

Why do you have to stay still for certain scans?

You never necessarily know why.

Two of her biggest accolades are the best overall exhibit at the

Wellington Regional Science Fair

and the 2016 Prime Minister's Future Scientist Prize.

Though focused on her own career,

Catherine gives up her free time to mentor other budding young

scientists.

My real passion is,

like, teaching other people about the stuff that I like or teaching

them how to do something,

and especially taking the approach of, you know,

I don't know, you don't know, let's find out together.

So come in now.

Music provides a shoulder to lean on.

And what I love about working with the boys that I teach through

StarJam is

they channel their own unique passion into those drums.

Emma Cooper-Williams is still in the midst of her university studies,

but she's already secured the Writer's Award at the

Smokefree Rockquest

and won the Play It Strange Peace Song Competition.

Emma sees her disability as extra drive, not as a limitation.

When I was born, I had a grade-4 brain haemorrhage.

I had two brain surgeries.

Also for the last four years, I've had Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

Everything that I've dealt with, I find a way to channel that and

to give it a purpose.

Emma's community contributions extend beyond music,

she's the Co-Vice Chair of the Cerebral Palsy Youth Alliance

and a tutor for StarJam.

Her devotion to others has been recognised,

she's the youngest person ever invited to participate in the

national Be Leadership programme.

'It's given me more of an eye for where I can make that difference.'

And...

whoo.

All things considered, I think I'm pretty lucky.

I'm able to do a lot.

Cancer certainly affects my ability to do most things.

Eva McGauley has terminal cancer and could be conserving her energy.

Instead she's focused outward, driving a campaign to end

sexual violence.

She's called it Eva's Wish.

Currently in New Zealand, one in three girls and one in seven boys

will be sexually abused before their 16th birthday.

I just think that is absolutely not good enough.

Yeah, it was when those numbers started becoming my friends.

They were real people who I saw the impact of what happened to them.

Eva's a youth ambassador for HELP.

It's raised nearly $60,000 for survivors of sexual abuse,

and she's campaigned for a free online counselling service.

The Eva's Wish Foundation is also working to get guidelines in place

for schools to manage sex offenders and introduce compulsory education

about sexual consent.

This year even though Eva's faced ongoing treatment for her nasal

cancer,

she's put her next goal in place, making a series of videos explaining

how young people can continue her legacy by becoming activists on

matters close to their hearts.

My goal is to...

create a world where I can feel safe leaving my loved ones without me

being there to look after them.

(DRUMBEAT)

What I love most about brain research is the fact that

it's an unknown territory.

Professor Louise Nicholson is an internationally respected

neuroscientist who's dedicated her

life to advancing medical outcomes of Kiwis.

Her mission is finding a cure for spinal cord injuries.

Which is what has driven me for the last 29 years, I desperately want

to make a difference.

Louise helped establish the Spinal Cord Injury Research Facility

at Auckland University

and is on the board of the CatWalk Trust.

The work that's being done here is highly innovative, which is a New

Zealand characteristic, of course,

and we're very, very fortunate to align ourselves directly

with those that are going to benefit from the research.

Louise helped create the New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge, which runs

a competition for high schools.

The goal is to motivate teenagers to consider a career in science

and neuroscience.

'If you give people an opportunity and access,

'then they really have a thirst for this and they really excel.'

Louise and her husband, Jon, donated $1 million to PhD students

researching spinal cord injuries.

I'm taking a step back and have taken early retirement, because

I have a brain tumour.

I feel that everything is in very, very good hands,

and we have a number of students who are doing amazing work towards

finding a cure for spinal cord injury.

(TINKLY PIANO MUSIC)

(PHONE RINGS)

Hello.

Brian here.

Southern police DCC.

Senior Sgt Brian Benn has been guiding New Zealand's

Special Olympics athletes

for more than 25 years.

A friend of mine has a daughter with a disability, and he asked if I'd

come skiing for the weekend,

and I've been coming back ever since.

He's a coach of snow sports, team manager and mentor.

In 2016 Brian led the New Zealand Special Olympics team to the

World Winter Games in Austria.

They returned triumphant with 18 medals.

He'll be in charge again at next year's competition in South Korea,

and Brian does all this on top of his day job.

This is Special Olympics at his best.

Here we've got Nathan.

He's lost a ski.

Do you know there's a group of skiers called One Ski In The Grave?

(BOTH LAUGH)

Brian runs training camps which take months of dedication and planning.

He educates coaches and athletes and takes all the reins with the

logistics,

but Brian wouldn't have it any other way.

They teach me courage.

They teach patience, if you fall over nine

times, you get up 10 times.

(CHEERING)

(WHOOSH!)

Supporting other families, for me,

it gives me great satisfaction to see the family actually come

through a problem, a crisis.

Wendy Duff's a tireless champion of Kiwis living with autism.

A lot of the mums, they don't know who to turn to.

They're just stuck.

And you get to a point where you've got mental burnout, and you can't

think properly.

You don't know where to turn.

And to see a mum actually have a smile back

on her face again and know that,

you know, the family is functioning as they should be gives me great

satisfaction.

Wendy's son has autism,

but she's devoted her life to raising awareness and money

to support other families.

A founding member of Autism New Zealand,

she received national recognition in 2013 when she was made a member of

the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Most recently, Wendy was a key force

in establishing a much needed respite facility for young

men with autism.

The numbers are climbing, there are gonna be more young people requiring

residential.

I have a fight,

if I think I'm on the right track and I think we're entitled

to something, I will fight for it.

(DRUMBEAT)

(ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC)

Because I can't see, I do have to rely on other people to do things.

And I just found, you know, I'm quite good at selling stuff.

Pic's peanut butter is so good, it's a household favourite in more than

12 countries.

Even the world's top chefs use it, high praise indeed.

Entrepreneur Pic Picot has macular degeneration.

He started losing his vision 10 years ago, but love of this

peanut butter keeps spreading.

But I think that's really important, you know, is to let go stuff.

You can't just control every part of your business, you have to trust

people,

and the business has really grown because of that.

The business started in classic Kiwi fashion; the first batches were made

in a concrete mixer in a garage.

12 years on, it's a $15 million brand,...

and the company has been listed on Deloitte's Fast 50 list again this

year.

Four or five years ago, I started saying, 'Oh, we're selling as much

as, you know,

'ETA or one of these other big brands that I grew up with.'

And now we outsell all those brands three to one.

(ACOUSTIC GUITAR MUSIC)

We are gonna tell you a story today.

Deaf from a young age, Victoria Lessing is a leader in her

community,

fighting for the rights of people who are hearing-impaired.

She's now converted her passion into a business.

Merge introduces New Zealand Sign Language to mainstream Aotearoa

through workshops for children and adults.

TRANSLATOR: Merge believes strongly in equality,

of elevating New Zealand Sign Language to its rightful

place alongside other languages,

for New Zealand Sign Language to be considered both as something special

and something everyday New Zealand.

We want people to really appreciate it as one of New Zealand's official

languages.

This one?

Kangaroo.

Like this!

He bounces up and down, doesn't he?

Whether it's children, teachers, the Deaf community, organisations,

businesses,

we want to create the connections between them to support them

to connect,

communicate and share information and resources for a better result.

(WHOOSH!)

I learned to walk on this artificial leg.

Because I couldn't say 'prosthesis' or 'artificial limb,' it just

became known as Lucy Leg.

Lucy Leg has carried Robbie Francis a long way in her 28 years.

Raised in the Waikato,...

Robbie's travelled the world seeking ways to make a difference for people

with disabilities.

Robbie's co-founder and director of the Lucy Foundation promoting

inclusive employment.

Their first project is in Mexico,

where they're coaching locals in the growing and marketing of coffee

beans.

We wanna create training and employment opportunities for people

with and without disabilities,

where they can interact in a meaningful way,

learn about each other while contributing to a shared goal.

12 Mexican families are reliant on the income they earn from

Pluma coffee.

You can buy it here too.

Robbie's moved on to fresh challenges,

studying towards her PhD,

supporting asylum seekers and contributing to a variety of

disability advisory groups.

And I hope that by leading by example that, you know,

other young people with disabilities growing up might think, 'I can be

bold and bright and beautiful too.'

(DRUMBEAT)

(ACOUSTIC GUITAR MUSIC)

Glen Terry is often seen around the streets of Hamilton, making his way

from one meeting to another.

He's president of the Hamilton People First and vice president

of the Midland region.

He's also on the government's Enabling Good Lives leadership

programme.

I consider myself...

as a leader to disabled people.

You can start reading.

READ: It is changing.

Glen's developed his own business translating documents into easy

read formats and language.

Well, my name is Glen and it's not readable by me, it's not readable

by disabled people.

You two, keep passes.

Go!

When he's finished with the paperwork, you'll find him

coaching kids' basketball.

I like giving back to the community, because I like helping people.

(WHOOSH!)

My main goal is to make sure people with learning disabilities have the

right to have their say

and treat the same as other people.

Hamish Taverner has been speaking out about the rights of people

with learning disabilities

for more than 20 years.

Hamish has been the Central Region president

for People First twice

and has just finished a four-year term as the national chairperson.

OK.

Another day up to the airport.

(BOTH CHUCKLE)

A long-standing member of Special Olympics, he's a global messenger.

He's a board member of the Association of Study

for Intellectual Disability,

a senior evaluator of Disability Support Services

and chairperson of IHC Rangitikei.

Yeah, doing good, Catherine.

Hamish lobbied over the minimum wage exemption

and helped protect disabled people from bullying by writing it into

the cross-government action plan.

Now if I get more courage to speak to the government,

then I can speak up supporting the people with learning disabilities.

Pass.

Good catch, Steph.

OK, go, go!

Go!

Graeme Porter strives to be one of Nelson's great leaders.

Winner of a previous Attitude Sporting Spirit award, he now

inspires others.

He's captain of the Nelson Special Olympics Basketball Team and chairs

the National Athletics Committee.

One, two, three.

ALL: Orange!

Graeme's taken his leadership skills nationwide

as a global messenger and board member for Special Olympics

New Zealand.

(WHOOSH!)

(DRUMBEAT)

(JAZZ MUSIC)

Jared Flitcroft is a Deaf Maori film-maker.

With co-director Jack O'Donnell,

he produced Tama, a short film about a Deaf Maori boy striving to do the

haka.

Despite his skill and passion, Jared has struggled to make it

in the hearing-led film industry.

So he's creating his own inclusive projects.

(JAZZ MUSIC)

TRANSLATOR: Jack and I collaborated well.

And I felt I had equal input into the sound aspect.

For example, I described what sound felt like for me,...

that it really is like listening underwater.

Jared's perseverance has paid off, the film's been shown in festivals

across the world.

And it's kicking off the 2017 Deaf Short Film Festival,

which Jared chairs.

I would love to work with students, seeing them make films and sharing

their stories.

I would like to teach them to become even better film-makers or whatever

else they might aspire to be.

Andrew McMillan planned a career as a saxophonist.

Now quadriplegic, he's using digital technology to compose using

instruments he can no longer play.

(BRASS MUSIC, BIRD CALLS PLAY)

Just before my accident, I was just possibly

starting to make some progress on my sound and what I was doing with the

saxophone.

I think that's important is to have something that can emulate that.

I mean, I can still even hit things.

(ALL PLAY DISCORDANTLY)

Andrew's compositions have been used in theatre and dance, film and TV

nationally and internationally.

He's chairman of New Zealand's Audio Foundation.

Andrew's passing on his knowledge

through teaching and coordinating evenings where artists improvise

and learn from one another.

My aim to get more of it played and listened to as much as possible and

explore that and to push it further,

so that I'm not having the same experience each time.

(ALL PLAY DISCORDANTLY) Argh!

(WHOOSH!)

When I grew up, I was a victim of bullying, mostly because of

my disability.

And books were the place where I went to hide.

Born with limited vision and colour blindness, Steff is legally blind.

Alienated by other kids, she withdrew into a child's fantasy

world.

Reading led to writing.

Writing enables me to visit new

and exciting worlds that I wouldn't usually get to visit outside of my

own home.

I get to slay demons.

I get to vanquish dragons.

I get to fall in love a thousand times.

It's pretty much the most fun you can have with a computer.

After facing endless rejection when trying to get a job, she took to

self-publishing her books.

Today her books are on the New York Times bestseller list.

Steff's written and published 18 novels,...

poems, creative guides...

and a staggering 3000 online articles...

under her pen name, Steffanie Holmes.

Diversity in literature is exceptionally important to me.

Anyone who reads my books, whatever colour their skin is,

whatever disability they have can find themselves in one of

my characters.

(DRUMBEAT)

Being a good employer is understanding your staff.

Located on the busiest corner in Christchurch, Espresso Carwash

grooms more than 100 cars each day.

Craig actively encourages people with disabilities to apply

for jobs here,

and he says that's created a win-win situation.

Totally not difficult, employing people with disabilities,

just being a good listener and understanding their needs.

The rebuild of Christchurch has resulted in record low unemployment,

but Craig's inclusive approach to employment means he has no trouble

finding loyal staff.

They value Craig's understanding and respect.

Craig's such a good boss because he really respects his workers and he's

really fair and equal.

When you're turning over staff, it becomes a bit of a cost.

We've just built a team environment where they're all very happy and

they've become friends and mates.

They come here, and they're happy to be here.

Actions speak louder than words here at Fairfax, one of New Zealand's

leading multimedia companies.

Fairfax actively drives diversity,

its coffee shop is run by Deaf baristas.

Posters guide staff to order in sign language.

It's important for staff in Fairfax.

We represent all our communities.

We report on it.

We reflect our communities, so why don't we reflect that

in our organisation ourselves?

Since the coffee co-op was launched in December 2016, they've served

thousands of coffees and encouraged

350 staff to use basic sign language.

TRANSLATOR: I really enjoy working here and having that rapport with

other people.

I'm learning a lot about coffee, and I'm sharing my Deaf culture

with them while I do it.

Fairfax continues to grow its Creative Spirit programme,

providing jobs for people with a range of disabilities.

Hey, Lucia.

Hey, Mel.

The intellectual disability or the physical disability is not

important at all.

It's the ability to do the job and be passionate about the job, that's

all we're interested in.

What makes a good employer is treat people how you'd like to be treated,

be very clear and honest about your expectations,

just remember it's a privilege to have people that work with you

and for you and as part of a team.

Hattrick Services manage the retail of 16 Z Service Stations in

Christchurch

and actively hire staff with disabilities.

And always pass the handles up.

Look at that!

Like a master.

Their Z in Schools initiative provides a pathway into employment

for students with disabilities.

It's really important for us as employers to give back to all our

employees

and either move up inside our business or excel into the next

challenge.

The programme's become a recognised NZQA qualification, giving some

staff their first taste of success.

It's my first NZQA certificate.

I love it, and I wouldn't mind doing,

doing stuff like this again.

Anton wants other employers to adopt this blueprint and team up with

their local schools.

It'd be amazing to have a greater pool of employers

so kids could have more options and avenues to start an internship

programme.

(DRUMBEAT)

I have desires,...

dreams and aspirations,...

like any other person my age.

As I am non-verbal,...

many people often make

the assumption that I

must be mentally disabled.

This really motivates me

to lead a successful life.

Geneva Tino was born with athetoid cerebral palsy.

Despite living with complex physical challenges and being non-verbal,

she's chosen to undertake a communications degree.

Just months from graduation, she's chasing agencies for a job.

I'm here for a meeting with Deborah.

It might seem a tough career choice, but Geneva's emphatic.

She's a young Maori woman with a unique voice

and strives to model what people with disabilities are capable of.

It's about changing assumptions of people within

society about disability

and letting them know that even though we have a disability,...

we're just like our able-bodied peers.

She's also keen to be a voice on the marae and represent the views of

disabled men and women in a way

they've never been heard before.

Geneva's already an ambassador for the TalkLink communication device.

She's consulting with developers on a redesign

that will ensure the device communicates in a New Zealand

accent and in Te Reo Maori.

This would be a first in the world,

where disabled people of a minority culture communicate in their native

tongue.

He's hot.

(ALL LAUGH)

Tane purotu.

(ALL LAUGH)

(WHOOSH!)

I believe no matter what situation you're in,

there's always something there that you can hold on to and grab and

nurture and grow

to get yourself out of that situation.

It's hard to imagine the childhood that Daryl Brougham experienced

83 foster homes

and years of horrific abuse.

He received a formal apology,

but lingering memories led to a personal mission to protect all

vulnerable children.

I believe that every family...

have the resources in order to put whanau with whanau, rather than

remain in state care.

Daryl's trained as a social worker, completed a master's degree and now

works for the Ministry For Children,

Oranga Tamariki.

Following the publication of his book,

the impact of foster care on children, he's presented all

over the world.

Helping people with PTSD is enormous, especially in foster care.

How can I manage the flashbacks?

But more so, how can I accept that this is a health condition?

And often I use the backpack theory,

if I don't own something that happened to me, I take that

out of my backpack.

In judging his personal success, Daryl looks to his family,

he strives to be the best father and husband he can be.

Allyson Hamblett is a writer, painter and art tutor.

Her autobiography, A Life Lived Twice, tells her journey to

self-acceptance.

Art has been her way to explore and express her identity as transgender.

For the past seven years,

Allyson's served on the advisory committee for CCS Disability Action

and the board of OUTLine NZ.

Now you've met all the finalists.

Next week we bring you the winners.

See all the tears, laughter and magic moments from the event in

Vlog #5: Big wheelchair news!! + using energy for a walk [CC] - Duration: 9:57.

[music: Rameses B. (feat. Soundr) - Beside You]

Back when I was more able I'd run around this area.

Ever since then I haven't really been able to, but I KNOW there are javelinas in this

area and am I asking for too much just to see one?

Where are the javelinas?

Where are they?

I'm gonna drop my phone.

I'm gonna drop my damn phone.

I started working with borrowed energy halfway through this walk, so now I'm just sitting here.

Taking a break before I head back to the apartment!

I took that walk.

It's beautiful today.

I felt not-great before, but I know that my time walking or my time being able to be a

little more mobile is probably coming to an end, logically, so, uh

I know I would be regretful later if I didn't spend days like this where I even have a little

bit of energy at least doing the little that you saw.

But I'm really proud of what I did.

I'm really happy about that.

I have depleted a lot of my energy but there is one thing I need to talk about.

We have reached goal for my EzLiteCruiser so we're going to be ordering that the second

the money clears and everything works out.

Annie said it might take about a month to deliver, so, as soon as possible is gonna

be best.

When you order they offer a free gift, and I was gonna get the headrest because very

often my neck isn't able to comfortably hold me up if I'm flaring or whatever.

And I specifically wanted the Slim Deluxe version of the wheelchair I'm getting because

it has a reclining option.

So, without that headrest I wouldn't really be able to use the reclining option as well,

so seeing as they had taken the headrest off as a possible "free item" upon ordering, really

made me sad.

Randy actually contacted EzLiteCruiser last night and they said that they're just gonna

put one in with my order anyway!

So that's really great!

That's really great.

I have to take a moment to thank anyone who contributed, who retweeted or blogged, or

whatever, anything about this donation (I meant fundraiser), thank you so much.

This is gonna be a major difference with my quality of life once we get it.

I'm really excited for it.

And especially thank you to my cousin who left this generous donation to put me at the

total.

Thank you so much if somehow you're watching this, but it's amazing.

I was tweeting earlier about how my face hurts so this is gonna be the end but thanks for

watching and I'll see you guys tomorrow!

Or "everybody" or "people" tomorrow…

I REALLY need to get out of the habit of saying "guys" as a general grouping.

So, anyway, thank you for watching.

I'll see everybody tomorrow.

How Google Test Software - Duration: 5:47.

Hello Everyone I'm Ruben and I'm gonna tell you "How does Google test Software". Let's ready? Jump in!

Oh come on! Don't go up! We use a lot of Google's products such as its own search engine

native apps on Android devices, the great powerful and useful Google Maps where you search firstly your home

'cause you think that you can watch yourself on the map (Really! people do that, I did it myself

don't fool me! All engineers think that Google test its own software as easily as possible: They mount a

technology on a PC or mobile device, check all features and possible mistakes, and...

Voilà! Hey Siri? Could you find me last photo on the camera roll? Ah no no I'm sorry

I'm sorry, you are not Google Assistant. Ok Google! Could you find me last photo on camera roll?

All right baby that's what I want!!

But if I told you that's not as simple as you think, how are you impressed?

Let me show you some curiosities about Google! Nowadays, Google has not a testing organization.

They have a concept of test called "Engineering Productivity" where exists within a "Focus area"

(That's how Google calls its software products). Eng Prod is made of:

a "Product Team", a "Service Team" and "Embedded Engineers".

A "Product Team" that builds and maintains code analyzers, IDEs, test case management systems

code review schedulers, bug databases...

The idea is to make the tools more productive. A "Service Team" that provides

expertise to Google product teams, including tools, documentation,

testing, release management... They try to resolve product-specific functional issues that Google

product teams might face. And "Embedded Engineers" that test a software on a device during a specific time.

Some of these engineers might be with the same product teams for years, other test

through teams wherever they are needed most. Google encourages all its engineers to change product teams often

to stay fresh, engaged and objective. They try to make

the experience of a engineer the best way possible. So, this means that testers

reports to Eng Prod managers,

Identifying themselves with a product team, like "Search", "Gmail", or "Chrome".

They are part of both teams and works really together.

It provides a forum for testers to share information.

Good testing ideas migrate easily within Eng Prod giving all tester,

accessing to the best technology

within the company. Yes, that's right! The job of the tester is to enable developers to test. This strategy puts

developers and testers on equal footing. The better they would be tests, the better the product would be.

Good job for developers! The thing is:

A developer can't test the product! Google's answer to resolve this is to split the role.

They solve the problem by having some types of testing roles at Google to solve very different

testing problems. The "Software Engineer". They create design documentation, design data structures and overall

architectures and spend time writing and reviewing code, including test driven design,

unit test and participate on the construction of small, medium and large

tests. The "Software Engineering in Test". They review designs and look closely at code quality and risk.

They refactor code to make it more testable. They are more concerned with increasing quality and

test coverage than add new features or

increasing performance. In other words, the "Software Engineer in Test" write code that allows

"Software Engineer" to test their features. The "Test Engineer" is the exact reverse of the "Software Engineer in Test". They put

testing first and development second. Many Google "Test Engineers" spend a good deal of their time

writing code in the form of automation

scripts and code that drives usage scenarios and even mimics a user. They also organize the testing work of

the "Software Engineer and "Software Engineer in Test", interpreting test results and drive test execution.

Ok, but the big question is: What about the user? User focused testing is the job of the Google

"Test Engineer". The next task is to understand how the features works together

to satisfy the needs of the user. For Google the quality of its

products is very important. So, next question we can ask ourselves:

How does one decide if what you built is high quality without testing it? The thing is: "Quality is not

equal to test". The solution is to do that testing and development go hand in hand. In development, it's

tested and codified together. The goal is to merge development and testing so that you can't do one without the other.

Build a little and then test it!

Build some more and test so more! "Quality is a development issue, not a testing issue".

Thanks for watching, and I hope you like this video. Give me a thumb-up and we'll see you on the next video! Bye!

Watchanawapum...

District

Sangkhla Buri

30 kilometers away from where we stay.

So on this section of the dam lake

There is a few houses that are for rent

so we are on a floating house

2 floors

at least 4 rooms

couple of decks

big enough for how many people would you say?

They said they normally have like students

20 to 30 of them

just 2 people on the whole place.

Normally this would be pack full of like a 100 teenagers.

30

or 30

It's a beautiful dam.

Apart from his voice right now

it's nothing, just the wind.

Shhhh.

We're gonna go look at the stars.

Long Way Long Time

Day 4

Aaauuuoooo...
