hi my name is Melissa van Dijk and I'm a professional makeup artist and for
today's video I'm going to show you how you can cover up your dark circles so
this is not a perfect time where I can film it and it's also the first video
I'm going to film because I moved from Luxembourg in Europe to Australia so
this is the perfect time where you can have some dark circles like I do and
this is also why I'm going to film it right now and I'm going to show you now
two different techniques and I'm also going to tell you what I personally like
the best and this might also be a good opportunity for yourself so that you
know what will work for you so now let's get right into the video so when it
comes to dark circles it's mostly like a little bit of a pigmentation under your
eyes and this can also be like slightly blue to green but it also can be a
little bit more like greyish blackish so there are two different types and mostly
if you have like the darkest type there's also some blue inside so this is
why I'm going to recommend you covering it up with an orange concealer but you
might have already seen on Instagram and on the other social media platforms that
they are also using some red lipstick so I'm going to show you now if this will
work or if this is just terrible and how I would do it so I'm going to show you
now what they are doing on social media and what I would suggest to you which
might be a little bit easier so I have now two different products actually a
few more but two different main products in front of me one is the concealer
where you can see the orange in it and this will be also covering up some dark
circles and the others like they are using on social media are red lipsticks
so I have now three different red lipsticks and I will just test out which
is little bit stiffer because when it's too creamy you just will smear it around
believe me I just made the experience yesterday so I'm just going to test out
which might will work and if not you will see it by yourself if it works or
not and I'm just going to show you now the normal steps what I would do on how
you can cover up your dark circles so I'm
not going to do something special or no one side on the other side only thing
which I'm going to change is the first product and then the other steps will
all be the same so this is now what I'm going to do in this video and now let's
start with my technique so when it comes to my technique which I would also
recommend to you is I'm going to choose a concealer with an orangy undertone and
I'm not going to use a full-on orange concealer or color and in the
consistency of a concealer because then it's a little bit difficult to cover up
so that's why I would suggest you to take an skintone type concealer with
just a hint of an orange in it because then it's the easiest to cover up and if
you just imagine your color wheel which you can get at the painter shop or
online just google it it calls color wheel then you will see that orange and
blue are the opposite colors which means that if you have any blueness under your
eye, oragne just will neutralize it and then
later on you can put your foundation on top and your blueness is gone so this is
what I'm going to do and I'm going to take a normal concealer brush a little
bit of this orange concealer and I'm going to place it right underneath I'm
not going to use it too much because it just need a little of it and most people
have it in the inner corner right in the inner corner
this is where the most blueness just will be this is also because of your
vens and then it can go down or also on top of your eye so just apply it as
you prefer it and as you will see the blueness and darkness around your eyes
so I'm just going to take a concealer and a little bit of sorry and I'm just
going to take the brush a little bit of concealer and apply it right underneath
so I'm just going to apply it right here where I can see some darkness and also
blueness and I'm not using too much so this is also an orangey concealer so you
might think wow that's too much but I'm really using just a little but it's just
because you see it in a different color like an orange concealer isn't a usual
concealer shade so this is why I'm going apply it very little on my eyes and I'm
not going to swipe it too much I'm not dabbing on it so that it will
melt in with my skin so and now you can already see that the blueness is a
little bit less visible because orange and blue just neutralize each other and
now we can just move on to the next step so for the next step just use a fluffy
face brush or like an highlighting brush and a little bit of translucent powder
and just place this on top of your orange concealer so that this will set
the concealer and it won't move around when you are applying your foundation on
so I'm just going to dip in the powder just a tiny bit and then I'm going to
set it so that it won't crease and also won't move while I'm applying foundation
and a normal concealer on top
so this is now the first base which I would do now to cover up my I like my
under eye and the end of my eye my under eye area if you have any dark circles
and now we can move on to the other side how I saw it on social media and I'm
interesting to see if this works or not because I'm not 100% sure if this is a
good idea if you're doing it or not so we will see how this goes so let's move
on to this side so here you can see in order three red lipsticks which I have
and these are also a little bit different like their different brands
and also different a little bit in consistency and how they're like some
of them are really creamy and some of them are a little bit more stiff so the
one I have tried was this one right here and this one is from Maybelline it's the
baby one and I won't use this one at all if you're going to cover up your dark
circles because you just will mess around with your with the rest of your
foundation because it's so creamy that it just won't stick to your eye area so
this will be already gone now I have these two and I've just might from the
consistency I'm going for the nyx one because this one is a little bit stiffer
and as you can imagine that this pot right here which I have used on the
other side these concealers are stiffer they are still cream concealers but they
are very stiff in consistency so this is why they are sticking to the place where
you just have applied it and if you're setting it with some powder it just will
stay all day long at that place and it won't move around so with the lipstick
they are normally creamy and they aren't that dry on your lips because if you're
using a cream lipstick it just won't dry down as a liquid lipstick and it also
won't like stay on your lips all day long because it will move around since
it's a creamy consistency and it's also maybe a lipstick format of creamy
consistency so I'm not sure if this is a good idea to put it under your eyes but
we will see so I'm going to take this one right here
and I'm going to place it underneath my eye and I'm also using a concealer brush
to spread it out a little bit as I did on the other side so just a quick info
before I'm going to apply it on my the people who are applying some red
lipstick under their eyes because they want to cover up the darkness this might
be the reason because they are primary colors so blue yellow and red are
primary colors and if you have blueness then they will cover it up with
redness because then it will neutralize but the problem is it's such a strong
color I'm not sure if this will be that easy to cover up or you have to use a
lot of product and I'm not that type of person that likes to just have a cake
foundation on my face like a mask I'm more like the natural type of person
that likes to apply it just a tiny bit of foundation so it just depends on your
preference that's what I want to point it out and because blue yellow and red
are the primary colors then later on the secondary colors are like green orange
and purple because if you're mixing like red and yellow together you look at
orange and so on this is why I have used orange on this side because it's easier
to cover up so we will see now with the lipstick if this will cover up as easy
as I think well I'm not so concerned that it will come up that easy but let's
see what it will take and normally on the videos you will see that they are
covering it up with some foundation and your blueness is gone but you do not
really see how much they are applying of foundation so we will see how much I
will need on this side and how much I will need on this side so let's find it
out so I'm just going to apply the red lipstick right in the inner corner and
underneath and as you can see the color is such a strong color and you might
already think that you couldn't cover it up because the color is such a strong
color but we will see I'm going now to blend it out and I'm also going to use
dabbing motion so I'm not going to swipe it around a lot I'm just dabbing it that
it will melt in with my skin
so now I just have applied this one on the other side and now we can move on to
the next step and this is also to add some translucent powder on top to set
everything so now I'm going to repeat the step which I have done on the other
side so I'm just going to set the lipstick that this won't move when I'm
applying the foundation
and for some reason I think that this looks like someone has punched me in the
face so it isn't that cute and it looks horrible and as you can see because if
you're mixing red and blue it will get purple and as you can see my bluenuess
right here has turned in some purple so I'm not concerned if this will work like
be the best way as you can cover up your dark circles I personally from what I
see right now still like this like that while this side is still the best one so
we would see now later on when I have applied my foundation how this will look
like so now I'm going to apply my foundation at first on this side and
then later on on the other side so that you can see the difference so I have my
Beauty Blender right here and I'm just going to dab it on top and I'm just
going to do my normal routine so I'm not that type of person that likes a full
coverage foundation I'm with a natural type of person so it's totally what you
prefer then you might also will go with this side but I'm not a fan of applying
a lot of foundation because I just think that this feels uncomfortable on my skin
so I'm just going to do my normal routine and half of my face I'm just
keeping my eye area now like I'm not going to apply it yet I just like to
finish off the rest of my face so now let's go closer to my eyes so I'm going
to use the pointy side and as you can see it's already like a similar color to
my foundation so it won't need that much to cover up
and I'm also going to apply it on top of my eye because I just want to get an
even canvas and if you have a lot of bluenes on top of your eye then you
also could use the orange concealer so now along my nose the inner corner
I'm just going to spread out the rest which is on my Beauty Blender to get an
even finish so I haven't used that much of foundation because they still can
see some of my pimples and like this little scar right here and so on so I
haven't used that much of foundation and it still just met in with my foundation
and I haven't yet applied a normal like skin tone concealer so I already like
this side a lot sorry my hair is a mess and now I'm just going to apply it on
the other side and we will see how much product I will need on that side so I'm
just going to repeat the same and now I can go closer to the eye so I'm going to
take a little bit of foundation on the tip of my sponge I'm just going to
and we will see how much I will need of it okay so just what's now a little bit
and you still can see it so this is just a little bit I'm not done yet I'm
just going to finish it up because I just like that my both sides will look
the same so I do not want any redness around this eye so I'm just going to
cover it up as much as I can and also feel comfortable with so I'm just using
a normal foundation like it isn't the full coverage foundation it just gives
me a natural like finish it's medium coverage and this is what I meant from
before you still can't see this red area right here so now it looks even worse
than someone has punched me in the face so you still can't see this red area and
I personally think that I'm not sure that the lipstick has moved around a
little bit like further towards the outer corner I'm not sure this is just
what I personally think right now when I'm looking into the mirror but I just
might need to use a little bit more foundation so I'm not going to like just
mess around this is just how I feel about this technique and what some
people are doing like with the lipstick I'm not sure I mean if you're a person
that likes a full coverage foundation
that you like to put concealer over your whole face then this might be the way
you could go but if you prefer to keep it casual and just a little bit of
foundation to cover up any pimples and so on then this might be the wrong
technique for you I'm not going to say that it's not working I'm just going to
say that you need a lot of products because it's still well I mean I still
can see it so I'm not going to apply more foundation now we can move on to
the next step which is applying like a natural tones
concealer which is a little bit lighter but it hasn't like it's the neutral tone
tone it hasn't any orange or yellowish undertone to it it's just a normal
concealer but I'm just going to pop this right underneath my eye to see if this
will also cover up the redness so now I'm going to take the normal concealer
which I would use to just apply it underneath my eyes I'm using also a new
Beauty Blender because I just do not like to use any redness which is on this
sponge on the other side because this one is really clean and I just like this
side the most so I'm just going to apply it as I would so it's a little bit
lighter to brighten up your eye but still it has a natural skin tone so I'm
just going to dab it into the skin also so I like to go over my eye a little bit
so that I have an even kind of us and that my eyes look awake so this is now
this side done and I will like it I mean it looks natural and it looks like an
awake look so now I like to go on the other side and we will see if the
concealer can cover it up because normally concealers are thicker and have
also a better like coverage I might work with this one so I'm just
going to use my Beauty Blender
can you see this but I think the lipstick has moved around like I'm red
on this side right here like just right underneath I personally can see in the
mirror that there's like a line that it has moved around whereas on this side
it's clean there's no red line I mean I have some
pimples but there's no red line and it still isn't orange on this side so I'm
not sure how I should feel about the lipstick technique like the red lipstick
technique I just think that this is a color which is definitely not close enough
to your skin tone that you can just cover it up with your normal like daily
makeup application I mean if you would go out and you have a special event or
something like that where you just apply a lot of makeup then this much will work
for you but still I mean I'm read around this area right here I'm not sure if you
can see it in a camera but I can definitely tell you that the line stops
right here from the lipstick so and now I have used a clean Beauty Blender so I
just have changed it to a new one and I just might also write here to see if I
can get a natural base
maybe this will disappear
so now the redness is covered up like not fully fully covered up but still I
have used a lot more product on that side than on my preference side so I
hope that you can see that this one is a little bit more like rosy reddish and
this side is like my normal skin tone type and I still like this one the most
so we will see now we can move on to the last step which is just set everything
with some powder because we don't want to that it will crease so I'm going to
set my top part of my eye and the lower part of my eye with some powder so that
I'm sure that it won't crease and it is all well and it it will stay all day
long so let's go to this step so now I'm just going to repeat it so I'm just
going to use some powder and set everything I have also used a new brush
because the other brush is a little bit red so you can see that it's slightly
red and I just don't want to mix everything with the side that I like the
most and this is why I like to keep it from the clean side towards the red side
so now I'm just going to repeat the same on the other side
now I have set everything and this will be like this is now the final look when
it comes to your eyes and how you can cover them up if you want to go now to
the next step which is applying your eye makeup then go for it
I just like to stop right here because this is what this video is about and I
honestly have to tell you that I'm not sure how I should think about this
technique I mean this one is quick easy if you have a concealer which is a
little bit orange based in your skin tone then it's just so quick to cover up
your darkness so it doesn't matter what skin tone you have you just need to find
a concealer which is close to your skin tone with a hint of an orange in it and
this will be your color correcting concealer so you don't need that much
and with the red one I mean if you have very pale and you're going to apply this
strong color I mean normally if you are very pale you have already problems with
some red areas on your cheeks or forehead or chin so you don't want it to
enhance it so I just wouldn't use a red lipstick to cover up your dark circles
so I personally would prefer to use an orange concealer which is close to your
skin tone or like this light pinkish if you are paler
because there's still some red in it so if you're using some red and mix it in
with white it will get pink so and if you're using yellow and red it will get
orange so as long as it has like a reddish like tint in it pretend in it
for another color it will work but just go for one which is really suitable for
your skin tone and then you don't have to worry about covering up with a lot of
foundation or concealer so it just can keep it natural and simple and it won't
be that heavy on your face so this is what I can suggest you I made experiment
and I personally just like this side which is the beautiful side and this one
is the red side and even though I have covered that with concealer foundation
and so on as you can see that it's red I don't know how you will see it now on
the screen I personally can see it and I wouldn't
go out like this so I just would go out like this side and this is also what
works for me the best just try it out make the experiment for yourself and
just see what will cover up the most for you and also it depends as I said before
how much foundation do you use if you like to keep it simple go for this side
you feel like a full coverage and you like to play around with some colors
then you might want to go for this side but I would I wouldn't recommend it so
it's not totally up to you this is not the end of the video and I just hope
that you like it and thank you so much for watching and excuse my hair it's a
mess but I just will have a look at the I don't know Priceline pharmacy or
something like that to get a shampoo that will just make my hair a little bit
softer or like a spray so if you have any recommendation of how I can just
manage my hair then these are welcome because it's quite humid up here and
thank you so much for watching and if you want to see another quick tip video
well this one's now a long tip video but whatever then you can click on this one
