Common American Slang Words That You Will Hear A Lot - Duration: 11:35.
Today, I am going to blow your mind with some popular American slang.
BOOM!
So in today's lesson, I'm going to talk to you about
some popular and common slang that Americans regularly use.
And remember, learning slang...it's mostly important
for your listening comprehension.
I've had many English learners tell me like...
you know in the classroom I understand everything.
But when I go outside in the streets, or if I'm watching a movie, it's really hard to understand.
And that's because people use it informally, casually, in colloquial speech.
If you're an English learner, it's not really necessary that
you go out and use these words.
But it is good for your listening comprehension.
So let's talk about some common American slang
that Americans love to use, especially me.
The first one that I want to talk to you about is COOL.
And no, I'm not talking about the temperature.
I'm talking about something or someone that you like.
If something or someone is cool, it means that
that you are impressed by this thing, or you are impressed by this person.
Now, if you are really impressed, then you could say that something is AWESOME.
I use this all the time if I want to express that
this is something that I really like, I really enjoy.
I'm really impressed with it.
I say that it's awesome.
For example, if you guys hit that like button, that would be awesome.
You guys...you'd be so cool.
Next is the word BABE.
Now, this is used to refer to a person's loved one.
One's girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, wife.
And you say babe instead of saying their name.
I think it's a little more common that men use it to refer to their girlfriend or their wife.
But it is a gender-neutral word.
Women do use it when referring to a man as well.
Be aware. Don't just say this to anyone.
Not to an acquaintance, not to just a friend, or a colleague.
Because it can be very offensive, and they might take it the wrong way.
Why are you calling them babe?
Are you trying to be romantic with them? What's going on?
Just don't do it.
Now, younger people might not use babe as often.
It's a little bit of an older slang term.
Instead, they may use BAE.
And this is an acronym that is short for Before Anyone Else.
It's also a word that can refer to your boyfriend, or girlfriend, your loved one.
Someone that you have a romantic relationship with is your BAE.
Next is a slang word that I like to use.
And maybe I use it a little too much.
And that is DUDE.
And this just refers to a younger man, a guy.
Because if somebody says "It's a dude."
Then they're talking about, well...It's a guy. It's a man.
Now I found a lot of fascinating information about this slang word.
Because it's been around for a long time.
And according to the Urban Dictionary, over a hundred
years ago the word used to mean a person that was very snobbish and stuck-up.
Then the meaning changed and it referred to a person that moved out west into the countryside.
And this person just didn't know what the hell they were doing.
And the meaning of the word has changed again.
Because today it just refers to a younger man.
A guy. A dude.
Next, we have RIPPED.
Most of us would just think of the verb "to tear something."
But that's not what we're talking about.
Instead, we're talking about somebody that is very strong very, very muscular.
Muscles are really well defined.
You would say that person is ripped.
For example, I think I'm pretty ripped.
Here's a picture of me at the gym.
Muscles very well defined. Very strong. Ripped.
This slang word also has another meaning which is to be intoxicated.
If somebody is ripped, then maybe they've been
drinking a lot or maybe smoking a little too much.
We could say that this person is ripped.
If you're talking about somebody who's intoxicated,
ripped is not the most common way that somebody would refer to them.
Instead, the slang word that they would probably use
is this one right here, which is WASTED.
So if somebody is very, very, very intoxicated,
I'm sure you've probably seen somebody who fits this description.
Somebody's intoxicated. They've been drinking way too much.
Then, they're wasted.
Another popular slang word is LIT.
And no, this is not the past tense of light.
It used to mean somebody who was intoxicated.
However, that meaning is outdated. People people don't use it anymore.
Nowadays, younger people use lit as an adjective
to talk about something that is that is really awesome, really exciting.
Or maybe even a person that that is really cool.
So you could say that movie is lit.
Or my best friend, she's lit.
Interactive English...it's lit.
I don't really use this word.
So I feel a little strange saying it because I think I'm a little too old to say it.
It's mostly younger people nowadays.
Another slang word that I really like is ANTSY.
And this is an adjective to refer to somebody who is impatient.
Somebody that just cannot wait any longer.
They're ready to do something else.
They don't want to sit still anymore.
That person is antsy.
Another popular slang word, and one that is not so good is DIS.
Dis this is short for disrespect, and it means to disrespect someone.
So it can be either a verb "to diss (someone)," or it could be used as a noun, "a dis."
But it means to disrespect someone in some way.
You say something mean or nasty and you dis someone.
We should all be respectful. You shouldn't dis anybody.
It's not nice. It's unnecessary
Next is BROMANCE.
And this is just a cute amalgamation of the words "bro" and "romance."
And it means love or affection shown between two heterosexual men.
So most guys out there, they may be involved in a bromance.
Or maybe they were involved in a bromance at one point or another.
But it's when...guys, it's nothing sexual.
Maybe you're gushing over this other person and maybe
showing a little too much affection and expressing it.
And other people see it.
And they could think, "Oh okay. These guys have a bromance going on."
The next line word which you might hear in TV or movies is GAYDAR.
This is another amalgamation between two words.
And those words are "gay" and "radar."
And gaydar is just the ability to tell whether or not somebody is a homosexual.
And it's not really used in a derogatory sense at all.
It's mostly...you'd hear it in conversation if you're talking
about some other person, and you're trying to think
well maybe this person's gay, maybe they're not gay.
And you talk about that person's ability to tell.
And you mention somebody's gaydar.
If you are in school or when you were in school,
I'm sure you came across this word and that is CRAM.
So cram is used as a verb.
To cram is to try and learn a large amount of information in a very, very, very short period of time.
So things that you can cram for.
You can cram for an exam. You could cram for a test. Cram for a quiz.
We've all been there.
I think we've all done it.
We didn't study, and we waited until the night before.
And we have to cram
I hope some of these words were new for you.
And that the next time you are watching a movie or listening to music,
you could try to listen for some of these because again, it's good for your listening comprehension.

HOW TO: Drop Shot [Complete BEGINNERS Guide] - Duration: 6:47.
Hey fishing friends! Today I'm going to tell you exactly what you need to know
about Drop shot fishing and how you can catch more fish at first there's a
common misconception about the dropshot rig, a lot of people think it's only a
finesse technique where you can use small baits and thin lines to fish for
small fish. That is NOT true! This technique is super versatile and can be
used in a wide variety of spots. With this rig I've managed to catch a lot of
big zanders and perches like this one from a couple of months ago

basics of drop-shot fishing I will show you what you need to tie a drop shot rig
I will show you how to tie this drop shot rig I will tell you how to fish
with the drop shot rig and how you can adjust the rig to the conditions of the day
So practically what you need for this rig is just a weight
Leader material we normally use fluorocarbon in several different diameters
And of course a bait you want to fish. Preparing the rig can be done in several different
ways I will just show you the way I do it for me it's convenient and a quick
way to tie the hook to a leader. Ffor the demonstration purpose I'm using a
way too big hook and a thick braided line so you can see it clearly on the video but
normally it's of course a smaller hook with the fluorocarbon. So what I do I'll
slide the hook onto the line just with the hook tip facing upwards just like
how you would fish it. Take some line underneath the hook this will later on
attach to your weight so you want to have enough space between the hook and
your weight I always create one loop above the hook
just like so and then twist the hook through this loop three or four times
carefully tighten the knot and that's it the hook is standing away from the line
just like how you want it for a dropshot rig. When it comes to weights I always
try to keep it as light as possible but as heavy as needed. Changing conditions
on the water like wind and currents can make it that you will have to change to
a heavier weight there are several different shapes of drop-shot weight but
in my opinion it doesn't matter that much how they look as long as their
weight is correct then you're good. Typical to the dropshot weight is that
there's a swivel, a clippy swivel on top where you can easily attach your
line in. I always secure my line with a simple overhand knot.
Baits come in million different sizes, colors, shapes and styles the types I used most
commonly are the typical V-tail and slim shaped paddle tails like these
But also worms and creature baits are perfect to fish on the dropshot rig.
Drop shot hooks come in different sizes and in different models and it's important
that you take a hook that fits your bait small hooks for small baits and bigger
hooks for bigger baits. I always try to keep the hooks as small as possible as
long as there's enough space on the hook to fit your bait on.
You can rig the bait in several ways onto your hook. One way is just by simply nose hooking the bait
Like this the bait has a lot of movement onto the hook and it will be
able to freely swim and have a lot of action and like this when a predator
takes your bait the bait will fold back and the predator will easily hook himself
But also like this the bait has a little bit a slower action when you give
your rod tip a little bit of jerks the bait will move slower then when you're
rigging it like a jighead; just punch it in the nose and let it come out on top
of the head like this since the hook is in line with the bait
now when you give jerks with your rod tip the bait will be moving way more
actively than when you nosehook your bait. That's the two types of bait
rigging I'm using on the dropshot rig. So you've learned what you need and how
to tie the dropshot rig but hey how to fish with it? So there's a lot of ways to
fish the drop shot rig you can fish it vertically underneath your fishing boat
or even as a 'dead rod' in a rod holder but I personally prefer to use it in a
casting technique with a spinning rod. In the summer I'm fishing the dropshot
rig relatively fast but hey I have the option to stop and really insist on a
certain fishy place like for example a bridge pilar or structures on the bottom
In the winter I like to fish really slow sometimes they even let the weight stand
on the bottom and just give it some gentle jerks so it swims on the same square meter
The main point is: experiment. Experiment with your
presentation there's no right or wrong just try several different things and
yeah you will see yourself what will work on this day on this water
So I think these were all the basics you need to know about drop shot fishing if you

properly drop shot is just to go out there and try it

In this video I will show you how I sewed an off-shoulder top
and a belt.
I put on a fitted tank top
and marked with a pin
where I wanted the top to end.
I measured the circumference of my shoulders.
I folded the tank top in half and traced it to that marked point.
I used 1 m of this stretchy striped fabric.
My fabric is stretchy both horizontally and vertically
so I can decide which direction to put the stripes
so I decided to place them vertically.
Than I thought it would be easier to cut the pieces
if I had entire pattern.
So I redrew it so it had also the other side.
I pinned the pattern to the fabric and cut 1 piece.
I pinned that piece to the fabric
I matched the stripes
and cut 1 more piece.
I sewed both pieces together at the sides.
I sewed an elastic along the armholes to the wrong side.
I folded it inside and topstitched it.
I cut a long stripe of fabric, long as my shoulder cicumference.
I sewed it close.
I placed the seam to the back.
On both front and back sides of the stripe I separated the sections
which will be around the shoulders and which will be sewed to the t-shirt.
I will first sew the sections around the shoulders.
Right sides together I folded the stripe in half and pinned it.
I sewed only those 2 sections which will be around the shoulders.
Then I realised that I wouldn't be able to turn it right side out
so I cut off the back central seam
turned the stripe to the right side
and again right sides together sewed it closed.
Those unsewed sections I then pinned to the front side
and to the back side and sewed it.
To hem the bottom
I cut a stripe long as the bottom edge of the top.
I sewed it closed.
Wrong sides together I folded it in half and pinned it close.
I slided it over the top
pinned it to the bottom edge and sewed it all around.
I tried it on and found out it was loose.
It would have been better if I had cut the stripe around the shoulder shorter
since the farbic is stretchy.
So I decided to use an elastic.
I stretched it around my shoulders and cut it to that length.
I cut a small opening next to that back central seam
cutting only through the inner layer of the stripe
and inserted elastic inside throught that opening.
I sewed the ends of the elastic.
I hand stitched the opening close.
It's not very pretty but at least it functions.
So this is the finished top.
I really liked wearing this belt
but it worn out
so I decided to make similar one and use the buckle from this one.
I measured the lenght and width of the original belt
and cut 2 stripes with that dimensions plus seam allowance.
I used thicker leather.
I disassembled the old belt.
I traced that piece which holds the buckle twice onto the leather and cut it out.
Wrong sides together I sewed them into 1 piece along the edge.
I took in 0,5 cm at one end of both belt stripes.
I folded both long edges and the narrowed edge 1 cm inside
and secured it with hair pins.
I joined both stripes and secured them.
I sewed it along all three folded edges.
I folded this piece in half and made a hole for the buckle.
I slided it over the buckle and sewed next to it.
With the opened edge I inserted the belt into the layers of the leather and sewed it.
I used the old belt to mark the holes
and cut them using a belt hole punching tool.
So this is the finished belt.
