What Are Fever Dreams? - Duration: 2:55.

Being sick is the worst.
Not only do you get the chills and a runny nose during the day, but your illness can
chase you into your dreams as well.
You might have experienced those bizarre and emotionally intense dreams some people have
when their temperature skyrockets—aka fever dreams.
While lots of people seem to have these disturbing, illness-related nightmares, they haven't
received a lot of scientific attention.
But most experts think they're an unfortunate side effect of a slightly heated brain.
Survey studies suggest that fever dreams feature things like feelings of spatial distortion,
falling into darkness, or nightmarish creatures.
So yeah, they're usually considered negative.
And back in 2013, a small study trying to characterize all the symptoms that go along
with fevers was the first to suggest that, when it comes to fever dreams, what you're
sick with doesn't matter.
When they asked 28 subjects about their symptoms, classic things like shivering and sweating
showed up, but three of them experienced weird enough dreams to get researchers interested.
The subjects didn't share a diagnosis; the fever seemed to be the only thing they had in common.
That suggests it's not the particular ailment you have that messes with your dreams, but
the fever itself.
Which is something experts have long suspected, because we know way more about how increases
in temperature affect your brain.
Regardless of whether it's because of illness, heat stroke, or certain drugs, higher temperatures
can increase the speed at which neurons transmit signals.
Which, in turn, increases their activity.
And that can include neurons in the amygdala, the part of your brain responsible for handling fear and anxiety.
Even in healthy people, the amygdala is activated during REM sleep—the part of the sleep cycle
where you're busy dreaming.
And more intense activity in the amygdala during sleepytime is associated with nightmares.
So it's possible that the increased heat from a fever ramps up the neurons in your
amygdala, leading to those monstrous fever dreams.
But a higher temperature's likely not all you're dealing with.
Your fever probably came from being sick, which means a very complex immune system response
is also going on.
When your immune system goes on the attack, little chemical signals called cytokines spread
the call to arms all around the body, including to the brain.
The amygdala has been shown to respond to these chemical signals by increasing its activity
even in the absence of a big jump in temperature.
In rats and people, intentionally activating the immune system and triggering the release
of cytokines increases anxiety.
So during a fever, illness-induced chemicals and increased temperature likely work together,
super-activating the amygdala to fill your head with all sorts of terrible things.
And just when you had finally manage to get some rest.
Sweet dreams… I guess?

We Did 100 Lunges A Day For 30 Days - Duration: 7:06.
- I want to hear a lot of damn booty.

- So, I'm someone who goes through these stages
of like, either working out a ton
or not working out at all.
Currently, I'm in the not working out
much at all category of my life.
- I've been an athlete pretty much all my life
from the minute I could walk, and through college.
I've played division one volleyball
and then I got injured my senior year
and from there, it was just, I could never really
get that routine of getting back into the gym.
- I usually don't work out.
It's something I've never done, I usually walk a lot.
- So, I'm not a big fan of my upper legs.
I used to have like, fine legs, but then as I get older
I can see, like that's where I start
putting a little weight.
- My favorite body part would probably be my behind,
but it's also my least favorite part because
it's not as shapely and toned as I would like it to be.
- My biggest struggle right now is the thighs and booty.
I have no booty.
Like right now, it's hurting me.
I have no meat.
- I want to try and do 100 in one go.
- I am definitely gonna have to break it up.
- My plan for this 30 days
is that I will do 100 in one setting.
Here's day one of lunges.
I decided to go full 100.
And tomorrow, we'll decide if I'm in pain.
- Whoa, I can't do this in one setting.
I needed a break.
- Alright, so this is day one of the challenge.
I am sick, so that's fun.
I'm still going to try and do it because
how hard can it really be?
I guess we'll find out.
- My knees don't hurt as bad as I thought they would.
It wasn't that bad.
It sucks.
It definitely sucks.
I don't see doing this for 30 days.
- 100. I'm not like, completely out of breath
but obviously I do feel it.
I'm a little warm.
I'm very interested to see how sore
I'm going to be tomorrow.
I just finished day two, and yeah,
that was like 10 times harder than day one.
- I'm already this burnt at 50?
And it's day what, two?
- My legs feel like heavy tree trunks now.
- Pray for me ya'll, pray for me.
It was easy day one.
I was like, oh yeah, you're lucky this is going to
be super simple and then the next day,
I was very very, very very sore.
- I felt like I was getting a disease because of
the amount of pain that I had.
I was like, oh this is wrong.
This couldn't be normal
- The worst part was really like, day 2, 3, 4, 5.
But I still feel good about it because exercise.
- So, I didn't feel like going outside
to do my lunges, so I decided
while I clean my apartment, I'll just lunge around. 25.
- So I've been doing the challenge a week now,
and it definitely started off kind of difficult.
The first day was easy and then it really, really hurt.
Um, then it got easier, then it got hard again
and now it's getting easier again, which is nice.
- To be honest, by the end of week one
by doing just body weights I was like,
this actually got much easier.
- My quads are feeling really strong,
like they're so much harder than they used to be.
My butt doesn't really feel different.
That is the one thing I'm worrying about, I'm just going to
end up with these super solid quads and nothing else.
- So, it's week two.
The first week was rough to start,
then it got easier, then it got really easy
so I said, why not up the weight?
I added on ten pound weights.
That was a mistake.
See how it goes.
It started to rain in LA and my knees started to ache.
- How can I say it?
I did not see any changes
or I felt like there was no changes happening in my body.
- Alright, so I'm going to be a piece of shit
because yesterday, I just completely didn't do it.
I didn't have time.
There were just some days that it was really hard to fit in
or I literally did forget.
I would have days lined up, that okay,
so I haven't done it for two days,
I have to do 300 today.
And now, I've had half a glass of wine.
It's Friday night, so uh,
I'm going to have to do 200 lunges right now.

That hurt way more than normal.
I think the days are catching up to me, or
it's 'cause I have a day off yesterday
but my quads are so sore.
My butt doesn't really feel anything,
but my quads are burning like crazy.
You could never tell exactly how easy
or hard it was going to be on a day.
- This is the beginning of week three.
I feel like, it's really hard to guess
if it's getting easier or harder
but, I've added this ball
as a weight. Kind of scared that my body would not
respond to all this workout.
I'm kind of scared to look and find out
that I don't have any results.
- I will say that there was a three day period
where I did nothing, so in order to catch up,
I had to do lunges in the office.
I did it.
I got 300 lunges done today.
Thank God I have ibuprofen at my desk 'cause this hurt.

What I can say is that I've noticed a difference.
These are the shorts
that I wore in the video, and they fit so much looser.
- I feel like I did notice changes.
I think my thighs are looking slimmer
I had like this shape to me
and I think it's more like this now.
- I don't see a difference in the scale
but I see in the difference in the clothes I wear.
These were the shorts I wore when I tried the video on,
they was like painted skin tight.
What! I got a little, I got a little wiggle room.
I am so glad 30 days is finally up.
It was much harder than I thought.
- It was a lot of ups and downs.
I feel like, towards the middle
I started to get disheartened.
But in general, it did make me feel good.
Every time I did it, I felt accomplished
and my legs were like, you know, sore, and I'm like yeah!
- I did see that my thighs got bigger in a way.
I put a timer on and it takes 5 minute 24 seconds
to finish a set of 100.
I think I'm excited to see the results.
I'm excited to see if there is any changes.
- [Interviewer] First time we measured you
your quad was 15 and a half inches,
and now it came to 16 and a half.
You gained a full inch in your quads.
- What!
- [Interviewer] And then on your butt,
you gained a full inch on your butt too.
- Oh my God, that's amazing.
That's amazing.
I'm so excited because I've always struggled
with my butt, so like if these lunges actually
help me grow my butt, then it's, I don't know,
maybe you don't have to do the squats?
Who knows. But yeah, I'm excited.
- What I will say is I am glad that I did it.
I pushed myself, and I think I'm a better person for it.
- I definitely don't want to keep doing this
every single day 'cause it is a lot to remember to do
and to try and fit in
but it is good to know that it does work.
Well, even if it doesn't work in the measurements,
I still feel stronger and so
I do want to keep doing it, so yeah.
I'm going to keep doing it
probably like four times a week at least.

What The World Doesn't Know About John Oliver - Duration: 8:29.
As the host of HBO'S Last Week Tonight, John Oliver has firmly established himself as a
leading voice in late night with his unique brand of biting satire, stupid antics, and
nuanced political commentary.
Well, mostly nuanced.
"It's like a flamingo in boxer shorts named Phineus J. Rocketdump ran for President under
the slogan 'time to get serious.'"
Following a three-month hiatus, Oliver made his triumphant return to television in the
fifth season premiere of Last Week Tonight in February 2018.
Let's take a moment to get to know this guy a bit better with some fascinating facts you
may not know about John Oliver.
UK career
While Oliver's career didn't take off as explosively in his home country as it later did in the
States, he still managed to build a steady career in comedy.
Most notably, during his early years, he established an extensive partnership with fellow British
comedian Andy Zaltzman.
He also appeared multiple times as a guest panelist on the comedy news quiz show Mock
the Week between 2005 and 2006.
That show gave Oliver a place to flex his comedic muscles, putting his inclination for
observational comedy and absurd tangents on display.
"Is it Bob's owl fight aftermath?
He didn't stand the chance, the owl had the high ground and kept swooping."
Football dreams
Oliver's actual lifelong dream was not to be a comedian, but rather a footballer for
Liverpool, a team he's loved his entire life.
"Supporting Liverpool was very much not a choice; that was pointed out to me pretty
strenuously at an early age."
Oliver explained: "[Being a comedian] is not what I wanted – this
is a distant plan B."
And as they say, never meet your heroes.
In an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Oliver described the time he got to meet the
Liverpool team in the locker room after a game.
"And at that moment, the entire Liverpool team, completely naked emerged through the
steam."
"Just waving a hands-less hello."
"And I still… it's changed, it's changed.
My relationship's changed."
Daily Show disciple
John Oliver has mentioned several times how much he adores Jon Stewart.
He told Rolling Stone:
"I guess I'm as much as a disciple of his as it's possible to be.
The fact that there is nothing so far that he has not taught me.
So I feel like he is my DNA."
Oliver hosted The Daily Show in the summer of 2013 while Stewart directed Rosewater.
Just before his hosting stint, he told The New York Times:
"I'll do anything for him, whether it's hosting this show or disposing of a body.
I guess I was just happy it was the first of those two choices, and I wasn't taking
a trip to the East River under the cover of darkness."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was Stewart who advised Oliver to take HBO's offer
for Last Week Tonight, even though that meant leaving Stewart's show.
He still remembers his emotional response to Stewart's surprise send-off on his last
day.
"I worked there for seven and a half years, you know; he's one of my favorite people in
the world."
Workaholic
It seems like John Oliver is always working — and happily so.
During his time at The Daily Show, he somehow managed to balance his responsibilities as
a writer and correspondent for the show with his commitments to The Bugle, weekend stand-up
gigs, and various charity events.
In the same piece, Jon Stewart chimed in to rationalize Oliver's intense level of dedication
to his work, saying:
"I prefer to think of it as he has a wonderful work ethic.
I prefer to think of it in the positive.
John and I share that two-dimensional ability to focus on the thing we're probably most
happy and comfortable doing, which is working."
In February 2017, Seth Meyers attested to this fact during Oliver's appearance on Late
Night, noting that even when Last Week Tonight is off the air, Oliver is hard at work.
"People should not think that you have been kicking back."
"No, I'm not sure I've ever kicked back in my life."
The 'John Oliver Effect'
Oliver makes it clear that even though his jokes are based on important issues, in the
end, they're still just jokes.
"Tonight I'm going to take on pinatas.
Or as they should be called, 'Trojan Donkeys of Diabetes.'"
As he rationalized to NPR:
"You can't build jokes on sand.
You can't be wrong about something — otherwise that joke just disintegrates.
[...] You try to be as rigorous as you can in terms of fact-checking because your responsibility
is to make sure that your joke is structurally sound."
"Our main story tonight concerns food, or as plants and animals might called it, 'the
afterlife.'"
Still, the real impact Oliver's show has on the world has been so significant that Time
dubbed it the "John Oliver Effect" in 2015.
The Huffington Post even compiled a list of the policy changes Last Week Tonight has reportedly
influenced.
But Oliver remains exceedingly uncomfortable with the idea of being the country's comedic
conscience.
When Rolling Stone brought up the idea in an interview, Oliver replied:
"If that's true, the canary in the coal mine is dead.
It's way too much responsibility, and I have no interest in accepting that."
Or maybe that's just his distaste for birds talking again.
"I have a brief message for the birds of the Northeast as they begin their journey southward.
Uh, are you listening, birds?
Here goes.
F--- you, birds!"
Family man
Oliver is pretty private when it comes to his personal life, but when he does talk about
his wife and son, it becomes clear just how important his family is to him.
Oliver met his wife, Kate Norley, at the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul,
Minnesota — romantic, right?
"She's an Iraq war veteran and I met her in St. Paul when I was getting chased by security."
Oliver and Norley are now happily married and have a son named Hudson, who was born
in November 2015.
While balancing their busy careers with family life, these two often showcase their love
and support for one another.
Oliver told the New York Daily News that Norley is one of his "heroes," saying:
"I'm incredibly proud of her for everything that she did and has done and is continuing
to do and supporting everyone who she has served with.
She went through a lot and I got to hear all the stories what it was like from her."
And during an interview with Rolling Stone, he opened up about fatherhood as well, saying:
"[My son] had a pretty difficult time, and it was not the easiest pregnancy as well.
It was a level of trauma throughout his gestation and birth, and in the aftermath.
So, yeah, it did feel weird doing a comedy show during some of that.
And you probably feel things more keenly."
He also told Ellen DeGeneres that he dreads the day when his son grows up enough to understand
more of what's happening in the world.
"And you have a little boy, he's two years old."
"Yeah!"
"And what do you feel about that?"
"At the moment, he doesn't really understand what's happening in the world and I dunno
how long that may continue."
Lawsuit
A Last Week Tonight segment on the coal industry got Oliver into some legal trouble in June
2017.
The story largely focused on Murray Energy Corporation, and specifically criticized the
company's CEO Bob Murray for mistreating his employees and attempting to weaken industry
safety regulations.
Despite receiving a cease and desist letter from the Murray Energy Corporation, Last Week
Tonight aired the episode.
"So as we have been explicitly told to cease and desist.
Let us do neither of those things and let's talk about Bob Murray."
But things went so much further than just talking.
"Eat s---, Bob!"
"Thank you Mr. Nutter Butter!"
The coal magnate promptly hit Oliver, HBO, and Time Warner with a defamation lawsuit.
A judge dismissed the case in February 2018, citing Oliver's First Amendment rights.
"It's not a time for gloating, it's not a time for saying 'Hey, we won' and just rubbing
it in the face."
Marlon Bundo
Last Week Tonight made headlines once again with its March 2018 story on Vice President
Mike Pence.
After combing through Pence's history of anti-LGBTQ views, the show highlighted a children's book
released by the Pence family about their pet rabbit, Marlon Bundo.
The segment resulted in Last Week Tonight announcing the release of their own children's
book, A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo, which followed the same rabbit on a very different
adventure.
"Our story is about Marlon Bundo falling in love with another boy rabbit because our Marlon
Bundo is gay."
With proceeds being donated to The Trevor Project and AIDS United, the parody book caused
a media frenzy as it soared to the top spot on Amazon - outselling the Pence family's
book.
"I did hear, unfortunately, we have sold out.
Because we were not anticipating people really buying it."

How do you know if someone likes you?
We mean of course in an amorous way, a desirous way, that they want to get intimate with you
and not just do homework together or share DIY tips.
Maybe they just come right out and tell you, but that's not often the case at the start.
Maybe they hit 'like' on all those Facebook profile pictures you change incessantly, but
that might not mean anything.
There are, however, signals you can read if you know them.
Sometimes these might seem obvious, but sometimes they are more subliminal.
Wouldn't it be great if we could just read people like a book and know if someone desires
us?
Well, keep watching, because today we'll help you out, in this episode of the Infographics
Show, Signals of Attraction - How Do You Know If He or She Likes You?
It might not always be the same for men as it is for women, so we'll start with how
women can tell if a man likes them.
Men are often expected to make the first move, but here at the Infographics Show we'd like
to think we are more modern.
So, other than – "Hey dude, I think you're really cute.
Do you wanna grab a burger sometime?"
– how can a woman tell?
What are the signs?
Well, the most obvious thing is body language.
What is he saying when he's not saying anything?
Apparently, women have a lot more "tells" than men, but guys do give some things away.
The most obvious being he just keeps looking at you.
This might come across as creepy in some circumstances, but most of the time his glances will only
mean he finds you attractive.
If he makes eye contact, all the better, and if his brows rise, that may mean he's giving
you a signal.
If he's not confident and a little shy, maybe he will blush if you approach him.
This is a sure sign he likes you, unless of course he's done something strange like
steal your iPhone.
We should add that a curious gaze is perhaps more benign, while leering at you is probably
more carnal.
So, now you are up close to him.
Look at his body now.
Does he lean into you, breach the space between you without actually touching you?
This is a sure sign.
You should also check out his feet and hands, are they pointing in your direction?
This is another sign.
It depends on the man, but some guys will play it tough, tell you stories that seem
to big him up, while he sits knees apart and shoulders upright.
A shyer person might bumble his words, only because he feels under great pressure being
so close to the object of his attraction.
If you look carefully into his eyes, you may even see his pupils dilate.
This is a biological reaction, something natural that happens when we are aroused.
It's the same for men as it is for women, so when those black discs widen in the both
of you, it means love is in the air, or at least some kind of intimacy beckons.
So, you've got this man, looking at you, not turning away, giving you his full attention,
sometimes showing off, and sometimes fumbling around nervously.
What else?
Well, he may try and verbally show interest in you.
It's the pick-up artist's thing to compliment you and then put you down a bit, so be on
the lookout for these sorts of nefarious meetings.
If he truly likes you, you will know his questioning is sincere.
He may even mimic you a little, or you might find him joking with you in a way you haven't
seen him do with other girls.
Does he give you a very light play-punch to the shoulder?
This isn't a violent act of course, it means he wants to show a little bit of intimacy.
It's a step forward.
He may offer you a compliment, but if he offers too many, he's trying too hard.
You can test him by lightly brushing against him.
If he throws himself at you, he might just be looking for one thing, but if he seems
gentle, doesn't step back, it's a sign he might have a crush on you.
What about group dynamics?
If other girls turn up, does he keep his concentration on you, or mostly you?
That's a good sign.
What about other guys?
Don't try and make him jealous, but if you notice he seems a little edgy when other guys
turn up, that's just his ego getting bruised or him feeling he might lose you.
There are many other more obvious signs, such as asking for a phone number or connecting
on social media.
Or that he always seems to be around in the same places as you, but we don't need to
tell you about those signs.
What about women, how do you know when a girl likes you?
As we said, women have far more signals.
Some experts believe that if you find yourself in a position to talk with a woman, then she
has initiated that.
If she wants to chat, she'll often be there in front of you.
That in itself is a sign, the fact you are close.
So, we know some things are the same, such as dilated pupils.
The same goes for light touching, but women are often more guarded than men when it comes
to being tactile.
If you do find she slaps your leg when you make her laugh, or that she just seems to
brush up against you a lot, this is regarded as one of the biggest signs.
If she is nervous, she may not do this, but you might find that in your company, she can't
help but play with her hair.
Psychology websites tell us this is an unconscious act most of the time, and is often a sign
of nerves.
But it's not always a sure sign she likes you, she might just play with her hair a lot.
So, you are the one telling jokes, and you find that she finds you hilarious.
Men, never underestimate how much women approve of a good sense of humor.
You might do better by not bragging about your sports accomplishments, and show her
how witty and intelligent you are.
If she is falling over laughing, slapping your thigh, it's almost guaranteed she likes
you.
Now she is looking at you in the eyes between jokes, and she wants to know more about you.
She may ask a personal question, really show interest in you, and that's another sign.
In fact, scientists actually wrote a paper on all the signs women make when they are
attracted to a man by observing their behavior at social events.
They came up with 52 signals in total, while men had only 10 tells.
Some were obvious, like looking at you, smiling at you, but others not so obvious.
Some of these included licking her lips, exposing her neck, or even caressing something in her
hands.
But given the seriousness of getting things wrong and ending up on the #MeToo list of
over-zealous men, you must be careful when reading signs.
She touches you, looks into your eyes, laughs with you, asks you lots of questions, plays
with her hair, and of course shows you no negative signs like yawning or rolling her
eyes or making excuses to get away, then she might just like you.
Perhaps now, and only now, you can ask her out on a date or ask for her contact information.
A lot of the information we just told you came from Male-dedicated websites, so let's
have a look at what women say.
Again, it seems playing with hair and showing her neck are top of the list, but so is raising
her eyebrows and making eye contact.
She might also arch her back, making her seem more voluptuous.
She might be too shy for that, so she may blush – just a biological reaction – or
very carefully allow her foot to brush against your foot.
You may notice she went to the bathroom and came back to you, but she has applied lipstick.
Rouge lips are attractive to most men.
When she scuttled off, did she look back at you over her shoulder?
That's a sign for sure, unless of course she is running away and looks ill at ease.
You men should know the difference.
She comes back, and you notice a couple of odd things.
Her nostrils flare and she seems to be copying some of your mannerisms.
Experts tell us this is a sign of attraction.
So, you brush against her, does she move in closer or is she repelled?
You know what each movement means.
Just be gentle.

The Dark(er) Side of Media: Crash Course Media Literacy #10 - Duration: 10:36.
Say you have an evil twin.
They're just like you but...different – somehow evil-er.
Maybe they have a fancy twirling mustache and are just constantly listening to emo music.
Maybe they hate chocolate and fun and bubbles and the greatest film of all time, Titanic.
What if your evil twin not only looked and sounded just like you, but pretended to be you.
They stole your family and your friends and your significant other and your favorite pair of shoes.
They persuaded everyone they were the real you and you were the evil twin.
And then you were left all confused and alone and you didn't even get a fancy twirling mustache.
Sounds like a nightmare, right?
We've talked all about persuasive techniques and advertising and public relations during this course.
But we haven't talked about their evil twins: propaganda, misinformation and disinformation.
These are the big baddies of the media world, the villains you really need to watch out for.
You could call them the dark side of media.
Though, that would make advertisements that sell you things you probably don't really need the "bright side."
Let's go with the darker side.
Either way, understanding these evil twins in their many forms is mission critical.
There's no way to be media literate without them.
But to understand evil you'll need to think evil.
Are you ready?

Remember, advertisements are public notices promoting a product, event or service.
Public relations is the management of the relationship between the public and a brand.
Both advertisers and PR people use campaigns, or planned, systematic efforts to intentionally persuade us of certain beliefs or to act a certain way.
For example, a company that makes headphones might launch an advertising campaign where a dozen celebrities are filmed and photographed using their product.
These may all be released at the same time and in different locations so that everyone sees their favorite celeb wearing them.
This campaign wants you to like their product because you like their spokespeople.
Or, a public relations firm might start a publicity campaign to get their client all over the media.
Like when your favorite actor is in a new movie and suddenly they're singing carpool karaoke and dancing with The Roots and reading mean tweets about themselves on TV.
This campaign wants you to be aware that this star has a new project coming out.
Hopefully you'll want to experience it, too.
Campaigns that saturate the media landscape with a united theme and message can be really effective.
They can convince us to buy new phones and stop buying cigarettes and vote for one candidate over another in the next election.
One of the key components of a campaign is its coordination.
For a campaign to have the biggest impact requires multiple people working in tandem to accomplish a cohesive goal.
But what happens when that same technique – the widespread coordination of people bent on shifting the media landscape –
what happens when that's taken up for evil?
That's where propaganda comes in.
Propaganda is information used to promote a particular point of view, change behavior or motivate action.
Sometimes that information is facts and ideas, sometimes it's opinions, or intentionally misleading or biased.
Though technically propaganda itself isn't inherently evil, it is usually associated with bad actors.
That's because it's often used to manipulate the public into things they might not naturally do,
like supporting a war or believing harmful stereotypes about others.
And most typically, the people doing the coordinated propaganda campaigns are part of governments.
During World War I, the U.S. Committee on Public Information was formed for just such a purpose – to produce pro-war propaganda.
In World War II it was the Office of War Information.
They made films and posters and advertisements and more to promote patriotism and nationalism.
The government even teamed up with advertisers to get them to push patriotic propaganda.
The propaganda focused on fulfilling one's national duty to join the war or save food for the war or buy bonds to support it.
It was like peer pressure with beautifully decorated posters.
That famous image of Uncle Sam saying "I want you for the U.S. army"?
Oh yeah, that's propaganda.
And it was so good they brought it back for World War II.
Rosie the Riveter? Oh yeah, she is too.
Sorry if I just ruined your favorite Halloween costume.
Other types of wartime propaganda make the opposition seem violent or barbaric to stoke fear in the enemy.
U.S. propaganda during World War II sometimes featured racist depictions of Japanese people for this purpose.
Similarly, in Germany the Nazi party sent around anti-Semitic propaganda before and during World War II.
If propaganda is used to psychologically persuade,
disinformation is used to confuse and distract the intended audience using deliberately false or misleading information.
Disinformation campaigns can be used to poke and prod opposing groups and heighten the tension between them.
And just because these campaigns aren't being done by official government propaganda offices doesn't mean they're small scale, or ineffective.
With the reach of the internet, and the ability to make digital media, people all over the globe can organize themselves for coordinated campaigns.
By working together, flooding different media outlets with carefully crafted messages, a group can drastically change public information.
During the 2016 U.S. election, Russian operatives purchased misleading and extreme Facebook ads targeted to both liberal and conservative American voters.
They even appeared to organize both sides of a protest in front of a Texas Islamic Center.
So sometimes disinformation can work like propaganda, trying to get people to act.
But more often, what disinformation is best at is confusing the facts of an issue.
Disinformation can whip up a smokescreen, and disperse the attention of the masses.
This style of disinformation can also be used to excuse or dismiss bad actions or behavior.
In Beijing in 1989, students led pro-democracy demonstrations in the capital's Tiananmen Square.
The Chinese government responded violently, killing hundreds or even thousands of peaceful protestors.
Why do I say hundreds or thousands?
Because the government stymied efforts to make a full accounting of the dead.
Since the massacre, the Chinese government has called reports of the events misleading and suggested the Western media is exaggerating it just to demonize them.
They still censor information about it today.
When powerful governments become set on disinformation campaigns, it can be difficult for its citizens to discover the truth.
It can be even more difficult for outsiders to get well-sourced information, too.
Disinformation can even include magic tricks, to – well, kind of.
Let's head into the Thought Bubble for this.
Some disinformation is full of lies, like we said – but some of it is full of distraction, too.
The art of active misdirection is often used by political pundits and celebrity press agents.
They'll plant stories in the press about their party or client or the opposition to distract from something they don't want to talk about.
It's like how a magician does that funny thing with his hand to distract you from wherever he got that rabbit.
Or take, for example, this headline: Pope Francis Shocks World, Endorses Donald Trump for President.
That sounds kind of wild, right?
The Pope never gets involved in US politics like that – an attention-grabbing headline for sure.
The thing is, this headline is purely fabricated news.
Published in July 2016 by WTOE 5 News, a now defunct website, it was entirely made up by an unknown writer.
The site was actually part of a network of websites that published more than 750 similarly made up articles.
Why? Who would do such a thing?
Well, apparently lots of Macedonian teenagers distracted angry, partisan American voters with stuff like this leading up to the 2016 election.
Magician Sam Sharpe actually describes this distraction as lowering our attention vigilance.
By slightly shifting our gaze to something else, we're lulled into an atmosphere of susceptibility, making us more gullible to improbable situations.
When we find ourselves in an atmosphere we usually trust, like Facebook for example, we're less likely to question the info we find.
Plus, many of us only read headlines – 59% of links shared on social media aren't even clicked.
We just share away without a second thought.
Tricking us is like taking candy from a baby, apparently.
The moral of the story: always double check the veracity of information and sources we see, lest we become victims of misdirection.

The key thing to understand is just how coordinated disinformation can be today.
Not just a white lie told in a forum post, but whole networks of people working to create an alternate reality.
One of the reasons disinformation is so effective online is because of the existence of a related phenomenon: Misinformation.
This is a different beast altogether – misinformation is unintentionally inaccurate information.
Accidents, or mistakes in reporting.
Often the most egregious examples of misinformation happen during a breaking news situation.
When there's a lot of information floating around during a crisis and members of the media want to be the first to report on the news, mistakes happen.
They get it wrong. They don't double check. They make a typo.
Reputable news organizations will issue a correction when they've made a mistake like this.
Sometimes misinformation becomes a pretty funny story.
Like that time The Chicago Tribune printed 150,000 newspapers saying that Thomas Dewey had beat Harry S. Truman in the 1948 election.
Spoiler alert: he lost. Awkward.
Misinformation has always been a problem.
As long as there have been news sources, there have been errors and corrections and updates.
But our new online media environment changes how those mistakes get made, and the impact they have on people.
Increasingly, people get information from a variety of sources online, often shared and mixed together over social media,
rather than from a small number of central institutions.
It can make for some laughable mistakes, but the darker side of media is no joke.
We base important decisions on the media every day, from what we'll buy to who we'll vote for.
Bad information can lead to bad decisions with serious consequences.
Disinformation, misinformation, and propaganda are even easier to spread in the digital age.
Media literacy scholar Renee Hobbs has even said that today, "Everyone, it seems, has become a propagandist."
Weeding through it all can be hard to do.
Especially if the initial misinformation goes viral.
Once a consumer hears or reads misinformation, it's often hard to correct it in their minds, even when confronted with the right information.
Plus, once we've deemed a source trustworthy or safe, it's hard for us to even criticize their content.
Our brains are pretty stubborn.
What's the best way to determine if what you're seeing is from the darker side of media?

Steel Will F15 Resident Pocket Knife Review. Carbon Fiber, D2, Titanium for $85 ?! - Duration: 5:17.
About the fanciest knife I own is the Chris Reeve Large Sebenza 21, because everyone once
in a while is allowed to do something dumb.
A car payment of a folding knife, that you can pass down to your children as long as
you care for it properly, you know like pretty much most knives.
Now whether they cherish it forever, or donate it to goodwill because it looks kinda lame
is about a 50 50 toss up.
Not your problem, you're dead.
To use a metaphor, if the Sebenza is a $400 Oreo - yeah I'm not good at metaphors..
you might settle for the Hydrox or the Steel Will Resident instead- a light weight fancy
pants pocket ket knife that is also half carbon fiber and titanium and only costs $85.00,
you're like only?
At least it ain't $455.
Ok?
So let's look at the overall length and weight and do the dimensions thing.
I mean this knife is in no way a knockoff, but it has a Sebenza quality.
Blade length and cutting edge.
Smaller cutting edge than the large sebenza.

The Resident as a Fraction of the cost of the Sebenza starts off by saving money going

It opens fastly, due in part to a good detent- because I can't get it to open by flinging

It has an edgy quality to my thumb but not sharp.
I experienced no scratches but just smooth consistent deployments.
The handle… much like my Knifeart edition of the Senenxa is made from the frame lock
side of bead blasted titanium, and the other side of genuine carbon fiber.
It's a very lightweight knife and feels good in the hand.
The handle isn't massive, and my pinky hits right where the butt of the handle rises.
Cool.
The handle is open backed, got a few blue standoffs kinda like the Benchmade 940-1-
good for fans of blue things.
The Frame lock covers a little bit of the tang, and I found it is not the most spine
whack resistant- not that you should be whacking it.
Pocket clip is a deep carry… positionable to all for possibilities.
Tip up tip down right or left pocket… knock yourself out.
Pocket clip is tight, but liftable with a finger and slides in the pocket nicely.
I've been carrying it for over a week now and I think it's a pretty good clip.
Slides in the pocket easily but holds tight.
Comparisons.
First the Resident.
Why wouldn't you buy this knife.
Maybe you hate D2 and need something a little larger for your hands.
I'm just theorizing.
I prefer a Benchmade axis lock or a spyderco compression lock for deployment.
That's why I wouldn't carry it as much.
Those are both on more expensive knives….
Now the Sebenza.
The See been z- ehh?
21 large.
This knife sits in a box with other knives, quietly hoping to cut me one day for my insolence.
Did I use that word correctly.
This knife is good, just not my thing.
The 940-1.
This is a nice knife… it's weird looking but a fast deployer and a good every day carry-
also about an ounce lighter… not that anything under 4 ounces isn't light- 2.5-3.5 ounces
is kind of splitting hairs.
Para Military 2.
This knife is about $150 now or something.
It's muy Bueno too.
I prefer this and the 940-1 to the Sebenza or Resident.
Remember the sebsza is a slightly larger knife but the Resident is more fidget able.
Ok wrapping it up.
Seeing as the relatively lack of enthusiasm in views over my knife reviews that my Gear
Video got- I guess people need more knife reviews.
Good for them.
This knife is a decent buy for the money- I like my knives slightly bigger personally-
nothing wrong with it at all.
It is a refined lightweight knife, made in the same vein as the other knives here- no
real difference in quality or QC.
Buy it if you like the looks… or don't I ain't your momma.

Avicii's Death Reportedly Caused by Injuries From Broken Wine Bottle Pieces - Duration: 1:25.
Hey guys.
Frazier here for Complex News.
Back on April 20, legendary EDM producer and DJ Avicii was found dead in the country of
Oman.
Now, TMZ is reporting that he died from self-inflicted injuries after using broken pieces of a wine
bottle to cut himself.
Last week, Avicii's family released a statement that suggested that he died from suicide.
The statement read,
"When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able
to do what he loved most–music.
He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness.
He could not go on any longer.
He wanted to find peace."
Multiple sources told TMZ that the star did take his own life.
One source said he used a shard of glass that caused massive bleeding.
Two additional sources said that the glass came from a bottle that he broke.
One source claimed that the glass came from a wine bottle specifically.
Two sources have said that Avicii cut himself on his neck, and one said the injury was on
his wrist.
The exact physical location of the cut has not yet been confirmed.
In 2016, Avicii wrote a letter to his fans announcing that he would be retiring from
music.
While the letter alluded to the idea that the DJ wanted to explore other interests,
he continued to release music.
Avicii was by most accounts a heavy drinker, and had described himself as "dependent"
on alcohol in a 2013 GQ profile.
Before Avicii's death, he was reportedly talking about a new project with Geffen Records president
Neil Jacobson.

Cardi B has finally issued a response in regards to Celina Powells allegations that Offset is the father of her child.
Cardi is not buying it and made it quite clear on Twitter last night.
After XXL tweeted an article about Celina Powells results, Cardi B responded and wondered why they were giving Powell any attention in the first place.
Why would ya post this knowing that shit is wild fake, she wrote on Twitter.
Cardi B doesnt seem to be the only person to think so.
Theres been several people on social media whove pointed out that its very possible that Celina Powell faked the results.
Aside from the fact that she has a notoriety of faking her pregnancy, one person saw some grammatical errors on the paternity results.

Trey Gowdy Wants An Investigation And You Won't Believe Who Is On The Hot Seat
Trey Gowdy has a well-earned reputation as one of the most dogged investigators in Congress.
He played key roles in exposing Hillary Clinton's illegal private server and the fake news Russia
collusion story.
Now Gowdy is calling for a new investigation and you won't believe who is on the hot
seat.
Dr. Ronny Jackson – a Navy admiral – withdrew his candidacy to run the VA after Montana
Democrat Jon Tester smeared him with fake news allegations about being a drunk who terrorized
colleagues and wrecked a vehicle while at work.
The Secret Service and Trump administration found no evidence to support either charge.
They were lies and fake news, but the media published them without verifying them because
it was a way to try and hurt Trump.
But instead of investigating the scheme to smear a decorated Admiral, Trey Gowdy believes
the accusations against Jackson should be looked in to.
Politico reports:
"House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy on Sunday said some of the allegations against
President Donald Trump's ill-fated pick for secretary of Veterans Affairs should be
investigated.
Appearing on CBS' "Face the Nation," the South Carolina Republican said, "I think
some of those allegations do warrant being investigated," referring to a series of
allegations levied against the White House physician and now-withdrawn VA secretary nominee,
Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson.
Gowdy specified that Congress was not the appropriate body to investigate all allegations
of misconduct by Jackson, referencing in particular claims the Navy doctor overprescribed sleeping
pills while serving in the White House.
"I don't think you want members of Congress deciding whether or not the prescribing of
Ambien is within the course of a professional medical practice," Gowdy said.
"In fact, I can't think of anybody less well-qualified to decide whether Ambien should
be prescribed than a bunch of lawyers."
Jackson withdrew his nomination to serve as Trump's VA secretary last week after allegations
surfaced that, among other things, he created a toxic work environment and maintained poor
prescription records.
Allegations of Jackson's creating a hostile work environment would be the jurisdiction
of "some combination of the Veterans' Affairs Committee and House Oversight,"
Gowdy said."
This is a repeat of the Russia probe.
In both instances, innocent men – Trump and Dr. Jackson – are being investigated
based on fake news and unsubstantiated rumors started by Democrats.
The real scandal is the coordinated effort to sabotage them, but in neither case is that
being investigated.

And when you first look at this,
though they are small pics, gosh,
it's awesome, but as we get a closer look...
it's a bit more shallow than I hoped.
Like, what a cool building idea - a Hotel!
However, look how small it is.
I wouldn't have a problem with this
if I felt all the builds in the set were worthy,
but gosh, something like the Halfpipe
is such a waste of parts.
It's a simple build that they used a good 50 parts
on that just reems out of place.
The same can be said with the Crane.
Like, it's not as unnecesarily big
as the 2013 Town Square crane,
but I still wish they would've nixed it
and just expanded upon the museum its building.
They use the inclusion of the crane to make an excuse
on why there's nothing in the museum.
It's very surface level, which sucks
since we rarely get LEGO museums.
The exihibit build is so cool and unique -
wish they went all out.
The tour bus is fantastic,
the snack bar is fantastic,
the icey truck is fantastic,
I just hope it's under 150 bucks.

Best DIY Labels Using Whiteboard Markers | TuTu Ep 38 - Duration: 5:49.
hey crafters so today I've got a tutorial Tuesday
here on crafters a ton of us haven't done one of these in a while but I
figured I'd hey I'm finishing up with exams and staff now a little bit of time
on my hands so I decided to thoroughly blend together now this is actually
going to tie in with a tutu I did a couple weeks back where I made labels
using masking tape and printer paper you might remember we made these labels and
we were kind of thinking about was this a good project or was it kind of a bust
di wash so after thinking about it some more and some inspiration from a very
special younger sister cuz you should go check out her YouTube channel becca-pie
slice-of-life go give it a watch go go to subscribe to
Laurie sent you and she would appreciate that greatly anyway
Baek PI had this awesome idea where is the similar concept except instead of
doing printer paper do the whole thing with the water the tape you get a white
board get some white board markers and you use the tape and we figured out
that this is gonna work so this is super awesome super geeky so the big advantage
with this is it picks up all of the pigment off of the whiteboard I'm you
don't have gaps like that where it doesn't if you pick up design now the
downside is I don't have a way to like freak fancy fonts in here so I'm gonna
have to just freehand with some markers or you can also use
some stencils so I'm gonna be doing some stencils and then I will you know add a
little extra details and I'm going to make a label for another box of random
jewelry stuff so here we go alright so all I'm going to do is I'm going to make
a label here and I'm going to use this nice green once more making sure that
it's not thicker than the width of the tape so I'm just gonna make one that
says jewelry using my stencils
and then just for fun I'm going to decorate it a little bit with just some
like random doodles alright so make sure that your design looks how you want it
to I'm gonna just kind of go along the bottom here and clean up a little bit
there just to make the edge a little more for us but we're gonna do basically
the same thing we did as before except it's a lot easier this time
cuz we don't have to mess with the water or anything so if I can find okay here
we go found the end of the tape so what I want
to do is I want to make sure I push all the air bubble out wherever there is
writing because I want to make sure that it really sticks to the designs that
I've made so push out air bubbles and now for the fun moment where we are
going to peel this off and hopefully we will now have a nice label as it comes
up so you ready for the moment of truth check it out we've got a label here's
the white board there's a little bit left on like here and in some other
spots but you really don't notice that it picks up pretty much everything also
I come to the back here like rub on it it doesn't come off like the Sharpie was
doing so now I'm just going to stick it on my box here my container these stunts
lecture to kind of smooth out the air bubbles but there we go just like that I
have a nice label obviously this one's not super vivid but if we were to use
the black sharpie or a darker colored sharpie it will be more visible in
person this is a lot more easy to see I'm gonna make a nice little smiley face
just so like you guys can see that yes this does show up really well honestly
all this tape is called easy start but I can still never find the end okay once
you find the end it does start easily
and as you can see using different colors makes it show up a little better
so this obviously works so much better than doing it with the print and the
paper and the water so if you want to make DIYs labels I make them super cute
go with the white board into Kate this is so much fun super easy and plus you
can get all these great colors only downside is you can't print out fancy
fonts but with the help of some stencils and a little bit of creativity you can
still make some really cute labels so now we have made some amazing labels so
I hope you guys enjoy today's project definitely toss out and we have the
labels you tried making with a broom method and remake them with it because a
piece turn out super cool plus colors pencils so much fun so get to labeling
your items I am going to finish but anyways that's what I'm going to be up
to also once I'm done with the gym this week I will be done some more that's
videos that I mentioned in last week's video talking about some future upcoming
projects hopefully going to get done so summer's almost here

So... before starting
I just wanted to say that
I'm not a makeup artist
or a beauty guru ( of any kind)
so I WILL make mistakes
I'm also not a fluent english speaker
So... sorry for my accent
and if I make any english mistake , please forgive me
and btw I barely own enough makeup
to do that challenge or whatever you'll call it
But I did it for fun and...
that was funny!
So today,
I'm going to recreate...
tree (three) Ryan Ross makeups!
So for the first one I started with purple body paint!
first I wanted to use one of my painting brushes
but the background being flushed into my bathroom door
I could get any of my brushes
so i took the brush from the body paint ( pack)
even if the brush was tiny
i think I did a pretty good job
after the body paint...
i took eyeshadows
with my big, big fluffy brush
to kinda fix everything
Aaaaaaaand
since Ryan has darker eyebrows than I have
because I'm blonde ( heh)
HuM
I put black eyeshadows on my eyebrows
after that
i took my eyeliner
Aaaaaaaand
some black eyeshadow and purple eyeshadow
and I put that all under my eyes
After that I moved on into mascara
when all of that was done I started the real difficult part
of the makeup
at first I didn't knew if I should start with white or with black
but i choosed white because its way easier
to put black on white
than white on black
so I get (got) my white body paint
and btw
I don't know what Ryan was using at the time
but omg it was surely
way better than mine because
didn't get (got) as white as him (his)
and I'd put lot of layers and layers
and I even tried to rub my brush into the white paint
just to get every part of it
and... idk it was very difficult
to get really white marks
but I'm also very pale
sooooooo idk
I'm perhaps too pale for this makeup
after that I started to put
the black stripes on the white marks
aaaaaaaaand
that wasn't stripes that I've made
because I didnt have..
any liquid eyeliner...
I had one but I finished it ( dying giggle)
and so I took my
brush... for eyeliner... but it wasn't that... thin sooooo
I couldn't get it right
and btw I didn't knew if he had both sides
sOoOoOoOo
so to get more time to do other makeups I haven't done... the... other side
sowwy
So moving on onn the second makeup
it's probably the makeup I liked the least
on all these makeups
but it was really funny to do
and... I liked it
I started with body paint... purple body paint
like the other makeup
and
and tbh the purple body paint was very difficult
because i couldn't get the shape right
but the left eye was really simple actually
so i started to put gold eyeshadow
on bosh... both ... bosth of my eyes
and after
i started with my eyeliner
that was very easy because
i used to make that kind of makeup
so it was really easy to kind the kind of wings right
and everything
and after, because in the picture Ryan was sweaty
and... I WASN'T
soooo
idk why I put some glitter on my face
to make that sweaty look kind of
so moving on the right eye
i started with my liquid eyeliner
before I finished it
it was because of that makeup that I finished it tho
and I had to get my other eyeliner
with my eyeliner brush
and that wasn't great
And I redo (did) everything two... three times
and even at the end
idk if Im proud of that eye
or not
so iI started by putting eyeliner
to get the shape
of that thing
idk what is it but... yeah, that's cool
and then I fulled it with more purple body paint
so after that I put purple glittery eyeshadow
and gold(en) eyeshadow on the eye
and on the ... inner corner... of the eye... I think...
and after that I put black glittery eyeshadow under my eye
mascara... and the look was finished
moving on to the next and last makeup
I think its the most popular Ryan Ross makeup
with the bird one
so I started like the purple mask one
but with red body paint
and because I went to dinner
I forgot where I put my headbang
and after i just put my hair into a lot of pony tail because I don't have long hair
ao I added glittery eyeshadow a little bit everywhere
I added purple to get the contour of my nose
I added a really really glittery pale pink into my nose
soo like an highlighter
and after I added a really really bright pink into my eyebrow bone
and my cheek bone
and after I put some glittery black eyeshadow
.under my eyes
I put eyeliner into my waterline
and mascara... and everything
it's the makeup, idk what it's called but I call it roots
idk its look like roots for me
so I'm going to talk like it was a tree okay
so the trunk
I think I did it so bad omg
that looked awful
I'm very proud of the roots
I think I did it very good
Ryan's ones was more beautiful but I think he had
liquid eyeliner or a thinner brush
because mine got fat after all the things that I did
and at the end I couldn't use it right omg
sooo anyway I hope you liked it
I really do ( did) liked it
because that was fun to put makeup on my face

When she wakes up im asking her to marry me.
Then this morning Brittany posted this picture to her twitter and said- Whaaat.
I have been with my soul mate for 9 and a half years and he finally asked if I would
be his wife.
I can not explain how happy I am to become Brittany atwood.
Many other youtubers took to twitter to congratulate the couple.
These guys are super cute together and you can tell how happy Brittney was.
And the ring is gorgeous.
Im assuming theres a video of the proposal coming out- I mean I hope there is because
its probably super adorable.
And im guessing at first Brittney didn't believe this was real because he has fake
proposed to her in the past for a prank video.
Roman and Brittney started dating back in November of 2008.
So this was a long time coming.
I had to wait 8 and a half years for my ring so trust me girl I know how you felt waiting
all this time.
But in the end its definitely worth it.
Roman and Brittney arnt the only youtube couple to get engaged recently Pewdiepie and Marzia
also announced their engagement last week.

--Moving on from love to hate we have Stormy daniels who is suing President Trump for defamation
after he referred to her sketch of the man who threatened her a con job.
This is of course in reference to the sketch she had illustrated of the person who apparently
threatened her in a Las Vegas parking lot in 2001 to stay quiet about her affair with
trump.
The lawsuit was filed by Daniels yesterday.
On top of this Daniels is also locked in a legal battle with Michael Cohen who is Trumps
personal attorney.
And that's for her release from that non-disclosure agreement weve all heard about.
She thinks she has a case as the document could be labelled as not valid because Trump
never signed it.
So yeah lots of drama there and we will keep you up to date on these cases.
--Next- there has been an update in the case about the waffle house shooter.
You might remember me previously mentioning a man named James Shaw Jr. he was the man
who stepped up to the shooter and wrestled the gun out of his hands so he couldn't
kill anymore people.
Well it turns out only hours after this happened James also launched a fundraiser to help the
victims families.
By Thursday afternoon of last week that Go Fund Me campaign had raised 165 thousand dollars.
Which was 11 times its goal.
This is absolutely amazing.
James Shaw truly is an amazing man.
--Next- Speaking of victims- thousands of people have GATHERED IN Toronto to pay tribute
to the Van attack victims.
This happened on Sunday night during the Toronto Strong vigil.
It was to honour the dead and support the living.
Crowds walked along the stretch of Yonge Street where 10 were killed and 16 were injured on
April 23rd.
Its great that everyone was able to come together in memory of those who were gone.
-Next- on a more upbeat note the avengers have already shattered the box office records
by bringing in 630 million dollars opening weekend.
Yeah that's so insane.
Talk about Avenger fans assembling oh my god that's crazy.
The previous holder of this record was The fate of the furious with 542 million dollars
opening weekend.
This movie also set a new record for an opening weekend at the domestic box office with a
projected 250 million dollars.
