Making sure that they have a cool commissary, or a cool kitchen -
they're going to want to stay working here. You're going to retain better talent.
And in the world of millenials that we live in that's the pool of talent that we're
bringing in now they can bounce, they can go anywhere, you know? So we
have to find things to make them want to be here. And this has been something
that's just -- it truly, truly, if you asked any of our employees- they'll tell you,
it's made such huge difference. A huge difference
I'm Amy Pape, I am the regional office
manager for A+E Networks in Los Angeles. This is the SnackNation
Spring Rejuvenation event that our friends at SnackNation reached out and asked if they
could host for our team and of course we said yes because we love SnackNation.
It's changed the atmosphere in the office and the vibe and we couldn't be happier so
we welcome our friends.
We're in the entertainment business so people are
tied to deadlines, tied to their desk lots of people travel a lot and
sometimes things like that get a little bit thankless. So it's really important to
do things for your employees to make them feel that you value them and to
remind them that you value them, and make an investment in them. Because
if you make an investment in them, they're going to continue making an investment in you.
Is it worth the cost?
A thousand percent. A thousand percent. I think that the reward far outweighs the investment.
So it's time to go back and look - and that's what we did I went back and I looked at
what I was spending my money on, and said you know can we make some changes
because this is really more important. Our employees feeling like we care about
them like we care about their wellness. Making sure that they have a cool commissary
or a cool kitchen. The vibe of an office and the and the employee
engagement and the team and all that kind of stuff ... you want people to work
for you. You want people to stay. You want them to think that you're a cool office.
That can make or break who you get for your talent & who you keep.
That really is the ROI. We have our senior executives in here chatting with each other eating meat sticks.
We have, you know, folks from New York here saying "How can we do this
in our office?" People are saying I'm taking stuff back
to my desk that I can come back and do meditation... so it's worth it.
I think the service is amazing. The service level far exceeds what you pay.
The team I've worked with - Amy B who is our our sales reps who is amazing. I mean so much
so that my assistant who usually works with SnackNation, is out on maternity leave
and Amy emailed me today and said "Hey, Lee had her baby, do you have any pictures of the baby?
Where she registered?" like actually took the time
to ask something personal about one of our employees -- that's priceless!
I don't see us as like a member of Snack Nation or a company that buy snacks from SnackNation.
I feel like Snack Nation is our partner in improving the health and wellness
for our employees and I think that you need to look at it that way for sure.
I went through and I looked at what are we
spending our money on. Me, like my office services facilities
you know our HR team didn't really have a budget that all this kind of stuff for
the office came out of my budget so what did I spend my money on?
Well, I spent it on supplies and I spent it on coffee and and what I started to do
was looking at where we get supplies from and maybe we could get it from
someplace else. And the first step was the water. We got our cases of water from our coffee supply company.
So I found a water distributor and I bought the exact same amount of water.
I bought Evian still buying 50 cases of Evian bottles a month.
and by just changing the vendor who we got it from they just five thousand dollars a year.
And then I rolled that money over into our snacks, so
five thousand dollars -- now we spend a lot on our snacks -- but it didn't start out that way
We started out with you know four boxes a month just to see how it was.
You know, and you work it in, and then you start to see well okay so I saved money
here, now where else? and I just literally changed vendors and the employees didn't realize
that I made any changes because they were still getting all the same things
that they had before I just got it from someplace different.
It's worth it. and now we're up to ten boxes a month. We love the Platinum snacks.
Obviously. And the Gold snacks are great. So we figured out how much we
could have and then we get the value snacks and then we mix it all up. So we
have something for everybody in everybody's taste level. Somebody
wants the SnackWells because it's the closest thing to like mass-produced cookies.
You know? or the Snyder's pretzels -- it just makes sense to have a
little bit of something for everybody. People have really liked the new stuff
like "Oh I love this, this is new, this is different!" They really realize when things are new
and something's different and they like it. So they're paying attention and it matters you know?
The other part of it is -- I think there was a
lot of waste. When you have free feeders, which our company had previously,
people take a bowl or a cup and they put them underneath and they fill it up,
stuff spills all over and then they eat what they want and then they throw it away.
Well they're just throwing our money away.
You know? So it just made sense if
they could have something they can grab one or two things on the go --
save us money, it's better for them, they appreciated it more, it was more of a variety,
it just made sense and again we're feeding we're
feeding families and that's really what matters.
We have we had NatureBox a little bit
and I thought that they were like stupid expensive and you know when
it ran out it ran out because people were filling up like bowls and cups and
then throwing it away so we were doing that we would get some bulk stuff from
our coffee distributor and paying like two hundred eighty two or three hundred
and some dollars for 50 pounds of chocolate-covered almonds and I realized
that one 25 pound bag of chocolate-covered almonds was the equivalent
of what I was paying for platinum box or gold box or something.
So we would have like three free feeders and I thought no, I don't want to eat that.
I'm bored. you know? I'm bored let's see what's new and exciting!
It just makes sense.
SnackNation donating ten meals to Feeding America for
every box I buy that's really important that was what sold us.
In three months we've donated on behalf of our office - three hundred meals! so it only made sense.
I don't need to be buying in bulk from Staples when I can be spending the
exact same amount of money and feeding a family in need. And I think that that made
a really big difference to our team. We're not only doing good for them and
for their body and so their health and their wellness,
but we're doing it for someone else.
