Hey, it's been awhile I haven't done a review video.
And I start with some heavy stuff.
6 months after their last album
and only 3 months after their very noticed victory at the BBMA,
BTS is back with their new album Love Yourself: Her.
An album somewhat different from their previous ones
and which, according to Rap Monster,
marks the beginning of the second chapter of BTS' career.
I won't say more.
Music !
♪ Serendipity ♪
If for me, the album 'You Never Walk Alone' was like a tunnel crossing
going from darkness to light,
then, the new intro 'Serendipity'
IS
THE LIGHT !
Oh shit, I spoke like gurus in sects.
I was quite surprised that Jimin got a solo on the intro,
so far, BTS intros were often highlighting the rappers
and I got used to this.
This then was a great amazement to face such purity !
The song is sweet, sensual,
you let yourself carried away while listening to it.
It is a nice track and it will be no exception to BTS' intros
which are often from my favorite songs of the group.
DNA imposes a RA-DI-CAL change of style
compared to the previous track and what could make BTS before.
The group displays a much more colorful and joyful image.
You just have to hear V's first line with his beautiful deep voice
to see that the group keep its natural class a fun dans catchy song
which I immediately loved.
The whistle that Jungkook put us in mind during teasers is now stuck in it
for good.
I must admit my weakness goes to the touch of fun you can hear in rap parts,
in particular in Suga's.
And when you add the image, well ...
Don't think you're gonna break my biaslist just like that !
I refuse.
For once, the MV does not seem to have a huge meaning,
it is just for fun,
and members mainly focus the choreography
and on Jimin's shoulder.
Best Of Me is the much talked about co-produced song by the American duo Chainsmokers.
Well, it was pretty easy to guess
although most of the album's songs have some American influences.
And for those who do not know exactly who are Chainsmokers, this is it.
♪
So, Best Of Me is an EDM song I quite enjoyed,
you can find the identity of both groups which, in my opinion, come very well together.
In 보조개, the group is in ecstasy in front of a girl's dimples,
to the point of finding illegal to have such dimples.
Hence the little pun "Illegirl" that is found in the lyrics.
The track is likeable, but I confess I'm showing no interest in it
This is not a song I would listen to again.
고민 보다 Go is a critique of society,
as can be found in several BTS albums.
In this one the lyrics revolve around expression 'YOLO'
that I kinda hated when it was used in France,
and that young people often use without necessarily understand its meaning.
The Outro 'Her' basically explains that love is notonly about happy moments.
Well yes, it is not in Care Bears land.
The style of the song reminded me a bit of the 'The Most Beautiful Moment In Life' style.
What could be rather friendly a nod.
Pied Piper refers to the tale The Pied Piper of Hamelin.
This is the story of a man who, one day,
helped a village get rid of an invasion of rats by playing the flute.
♪ Auditory butchery by Bobby ♪
His task accomplished, the villagers refused to reward him
and hunted him with stone blow.
Moral of the story, beware of pebbles,
thank you for listening to me !
What ? This is not finished ?
How can you want a sequel when you already got such a beautiful moral ?
It's like making a 2nd season to 13 Reasons Why,
it doesn't make any sense !
In short, he came back in night for revenge,
he bewitched all the kids of the village,
enclosed them in a cave, far from their parents,
and we never saw them again.
It's not a so bad ending !
Musician and cruel ...
If this man is not the perfect man,
Then who is ?
And this is where BTS makes a nice metaphor between the tale and the group's situation and their fans.
No, not in the fact that they are perfect !
What interests me is that they are musicians, and cruel.
Let me explain.
Although BTS is extremely grateful towards ARMYs
they would like you to stop follow their slightest doings,
which precludes you from more important things in life,
such as school, work, friends, family,
and ... I don't know ...
Clafoutis.
Suga even gets to the skin of the snake pushing Adam and Eve to temptation.
So with this attractive song,
the group ask fans to listen to them, and follow their advice;
not to see it as punishment but more like a reward
for all the effort you put into them.
It's cute !
MIC DROP gives me my little hiphop dose in the album.
The fact that she succeeds the speech of their Billboard victory is clever
since they speak of their success here.
They allow themselves a 4 minutes boast and send everything packing,
including their mic.
This is a good frenzy which I totally loved and you must watch the live,
the dance is impressive,
the performance is excellent and strengthens what is already felt in the studio version.
♪ MIC Drop ♪
We now move to the hidden tracks,
only available on the physical album.
But they are now absolutely findable all over the web.
One of them is a skit that is related with their success and victory at Billboard.
I will not talk about it because it is not a song.
But if you like BTS,
I suggest you to search for translation of what it says.
Because it can still be interesting.
And finally 'Bada' is literally THE hidden pearl of the album.
The instrumental is beautiful, I love the atmosphere it imposes
and again I suggest you look at the lyrics.
As explained Rapmon, this album marks a turning point for the group.
It offers a new more colorful image,
American influences are a bit more present as they rise in popularity,
but you still got a few bites reminding what they have already been able to do before.
Here we can see a desire to show a new side of the group,
but also can be a way of adaptation to conquer a wider audience.
For which I saw a lot of resistance among the fan right after the album came out.
I Personally liked a great half of the album,
there are still some tracks I put or will put aside.
I still thought 'Love Yourself' would have involved at least 1 or 2 songs
about self-acceptance...
Anyway, I guess the title alone will be like a "slogan"
to disseminate this piece of message.
So, my final grade will be a nice 16/20
hoping that you liked this review !
Feel free to give your opinion on the album, the songs, the group,
as well as to rate it like I just did.
Tell me what is your favorite song on the album and do you plan you buy it ?
On this I tell you goodbye and above all, do not forget...
Beware of pebbles !
