Hey there and welcome to Life Noggin.
Every day, we're learning more and more about space and what's out there.
I'm still hoping we find aliens one day, but until then, maybe we should try and learn
more about what we know is already in our cosmic backyard.
That big, scary thing you humans call the Sun seems like it could be pretty important.
Should we send out a probe and go explore it?
Well first off, just what is the Sun?
It may look like a giant, flaming cheese puff, but it's actually a star that's made of
extremely hot ionized gas called plasma.
It's so warm that the temperature at the Sun's core can be around 15 million degrees
Celsius!
That's almost as hot as my mixtape.
The Sun is not just super hot, but super big too!
It's average diameter is around 1.39 million kilometers.
If you want to feel super small, that's about 109 times the diameter of Earth.
But why should we try and further study the Sun?
Some recent research from the National Academy of Sciences has a pretty compelling reason.
According to their study, they estimated that without advanced warning, a huge solar storm
could cause around 2 trillion dollars in damage across the United States alone, and lead to
widespread power outages for a long period of time.
If learning more about the Sun could potentially give us ways to warn ourselves, I'd say
that's pretty important!
Plus, studying the Sun can help scientists learn more about how stars work and can help
in understanding the rest of the Universe.
So are there plans on exploring the Sun any time soon?
Yes, there are indeed!
With their eyes set on later next year, NASA hopes to launch their Parker Solar Probe,
which goes closer to the Sun's surface than any spacecraft has before.
Its mission will be to come as close as 6.2 million kilometers to the Sun.
That's within the orbit of Mercury!
I bet the other Roman gods will be jealous.
On its journey, this space probe hopes to trace the flow of energy that warms and accelerates
solar winds and the solar corona, explore what accelerates and transports energetic
particles, and find out the structure and dynamics of the magnetic and plasma fields
at the sources of solar wind.
With this information, scientists hope that they will be able to more accurately predict
space weather that could have huge negative effects on Earth.
India also hopes to join in the solar fun by launching their own satellite around 2019.
Called the Aditya-L1 mission, they hope to provide observations of the Sun's Photosphere,
Chromosphere, and corona.
They want to achieve a better understanding of the dynamical processes of the Sun and
address outstanding issues in solar physics.

The dollhouses of death that changed forensic science - Duration: 8:16.
Something terrible happened in these dollhouses.
Maybe a suicide.
A murder.
A stabbing with an adorable knife.
These dollhouses are part of Frances Glessner Lee's Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death,
which she made in the 1940s and early 50s.
They're in the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum
for a reason.
They're incredibly detailed —
these cans are all labeled.
Accurately.
And these dollhouses are used by law enforcement
to train and to develop analytical capabilities.
But these artful dioramas actually contain two mysteries:
What happened in these houses?
And why did Frances Glessner Lee spend her time, and part of her fortune, making them
perfect?
This is "three-room dwelling," and it's a dollhouse murder showstopper.
There are 19 of these dioramas and each one comes with a backstory, drawn from composite
real crimes.
In this one, Robert, Kate, and baby Linda Mae Judson had a nice porch where the milkman
stopped by.
They were living the American dream until the murders happened.
"As you start to sort of investigate the evidence...
the first time I approached this case, I looked at it for a couple of hours, I took tons of
pictures home and I analyzed them for hours, trying to figure this out, because it doesn't
seem like things add up.
There's a bloodstain that's in the baby's room but it's just a blood pool, and there
doesn't seem like there's any kind of trail from it, it's just sitting there.
We don't know what had happened there.
There's bloody footprints that are leading into the bedroom, the husband is lying on
the ground on some of the bed coverings, we have no idea how he died, he's covered in
blood all over his pajamas, so it's very hard to tell."
Three-room Dwelling's morbid details come from the same mind that crafted incredibly
delicate ones.
"There's this little eggbeater down under the cubbard here that I like to point out,
and this was apparently originally a solid gold charm from a charm bracelet.
The Nutshells themselves are lit as the rooms would be, the flashlight helps you find the
evidence.
There's quite a lot of evidence in these pieces that you would probably never discover
without it, so it's a fun thing to have in the exhibition, but it's also a real
training tool for really systematically looking through these pieces."
And you notice the fabric on a chair, the blocks scattered on the porch, and the blood
spattered on the baby's wall.
Because law enforcement still use these to train, it's tempting to play CSI with these
murders.
But notice that Atkinson only broke down the nutshells, she didn't didn't give away any
solutions.
That's partly because the solutions are still kept secret for those in training.
But mostly, it's because the mystery serves a purpose.
"The point of the nutshells is not to solve them.
The point is to collect detail."
Erin Bush saw the nutshells in their home before the Renwick gallery — the Maryland
Medical Examiner's office, where they're used for training investigators.
"The goal of the nutshells is to train your eye to see small, minute, seemingly insignificant
details that stand out.
So the kitchen: It's Spring, 1944 — Robin Barnes is a
housewife.
Fred Barnes, her husband finds her.
And the story is, he's out of the house to run an errand.
He comes home, he looks through the kitchen window and he sees her laying on the kitchen
floor.
He can't open the door, the door is locked from the inside, the window is locked from
the inside.
So he calls the police, the police break the door down.
So this is what we know when we arrive.
She was clearly in the middle of something.
She's clearly preparing a meal.
There's a pie in the stove, there are potatoes in the sink.
You don't commit suicide if you're in the middle of dinner.
And I think, if you look very closely at the stove, and if you can recognize a 1940s stove,
you will see that all the gas jets are on.
There are a lot of weapons in the room.
There's a rolling pin, there's an iron, there is a knife, on the chair.
It's very possible someone hit her over the head.
If you look very closely at the door, it's stuffed with newspaper.
So now we're back to suicide.
The point, of course, was to recognize these details and to teach investigators how to
recognize these details.
It was a very different way to investigate crime than they were used to."
Frances Glessner Lee was an heir to International Harvester, a company that produced farm equipment
and other machinery.
Her family made a fortune, a part of which she eventually used to fund miniature crime
scenes.
She endowed Harvard's Department of Legal Medicine, the first of its kind, and became
an honorary police captain.
Her artistic obsession helped detectives become more attentive to crime scenes, relying on
evidence instead of hunches.
"For me, as a historian, when I look at them, I don't think who did it, I think
my God why is she inventing this scene the way she's inventing it, you know, what's
in her head, and to me that's fascinating."
Lee's nutshells are as complex as the scenes they depict.
They overflow detail: the magazines crumpled on the floor; the apples that will never be
eaten; the body that will never move but is so vividly rendered that you can imagine it
once did.
"On the one hand, she was the young Frances Glessner who was this philanthropic lady who
was brought up in a fine household, and the other half of her personality was
Captain Lee, and those two things did come together sometimes."
Lee wrote a 1952 article in the Journal of Law and Criminology.
"Some years ago, the writer was greatly surprised to learn that nowhere in America
was Legal Medicine, as thus described, being taught.
The writer has for many years worked sporadically at miniatures, hence these presented themselves
as the solution."
Frances Glessner Lee died in 1962 of natural causes.
"It must be understood, these models are not 'whodunits' - they cannot be solved
merely by looking at them.
They are intended to be an exercise in observing, interpreting, evaluating and reporting-- there
is no 'solution' to be determined."
This toy's only approved for ages...dead and older.

We got woken up by the chickens.

This is the €4.0M Ferrari FXXK EVO! - WORLD DEBUT (SUB Eng) - Duration: 4:41.
Ciao everyone, here it's Marchettino and today I'm taking you for a tour around the ultimate trackday weapon,
we're talking about the new Ferrari FXXK EVO!
Today we're at Mugello circuit at Finali Ferrari and here Ferrari has decided to show on its world premiere
the new track beast, the new Ferrari FXXK EVO! EVO stands for "Evolution",
in fact this is the evolution of the Ferrari FXXK. It's a package that any FXXK owner can buy and install on his car
and from what I've been told by the Ferrari technicians, the evolution on this car is truly remarkable!
Honestly I was hoping for its debut straight on the track but this one you see is not a real car, it's very similar but if you look closely you may notice some details that reveal it's just a static model.
It seems like the actual model is not yet 100% ready, but what we can already say is that with the EVO package
the power of the 12 cylinder engine has been left unchanged, still 1050hp and for a good reason,
Ferrari technicians told me this power is enough, their customers told them this car doesn't need more power so the improvements have been done mostly on the aerodynamics and eletronics of the car.
Probably one of the biggest changes you may notice - that's a standard FXXK and this is the EVO - andwe may notice one of the biggest changes is here behind, the wing.
The new wing, mixed with all these new aerodynamic components help the FXXK EVO to have 23% more of downforce compared to the standard, which is not that bad,
this makes it quicker and more stable at high speed !
Sadly they took me off the steering wheel but as you can see, you can see the new steering wheel of the EVO
which is different from the FXXK's, it's a much more user friendly steering wheel for the driver because almost
all the features have been integrated on the steering wheel, and from that we can set the electronics of the car, the kers, systems that have been upgraded.
This car is simply scary to look from any angle, just look at this massive carbon fibre diffuser!
Insane!
Sadly the interior is completely blacked out because as I told you, this is a static model but I have to say it's really nicely done in all its details.
Just look at the EVO, it's really a monster! I can't wait to see one of these in action around the track!
Just to tell you the potential of this car, well the Ferrari technicians told me the FXXK with EVO package has been 1.4s quicker than the regular FXXK, 1.4s is not bad!
So that was it, a first look at the new Ferrari FXXK, what a beast I can't wait to hear it in action around the track!

How not to get Fired from an Airline, 5 Tips, Stories about People Getting Fired. - Duration: 9:45.

or a manager an agent or manager and a supervisor they cannot date hi welcome
to today's video today I'll be sharing five steps on how not to get fired from
an airline this is coming from six years of experience working for my airline
thank goodness I've never been fired but in six years I have seen a few people
get fired I'm gonna break down the five steps on how to avoid getting fired and
the names and faces of the following people have been changed to protect the
innocent I will tell you a few stories but I'm definitely not going to tell you
where it happened and some of like I don't be incriminating details so the
first step is we will we first need to determine do you work for an airline
that has a union or is like a non-union airline so some airlines are not
protected by unions and then some positions within that airline are also
non-union positions so I'm just going to speak for my airline and most airlines
even though I know they're I can think of like one really big airline that does
not have unions and most of their work groups but I'm going to talk about my
airline so my airline has lots of unions I love my union and I've been part of
been part of a union for six years I have supervisors and managers that I've
interacted with that they are non-union employees so they're not protected by a
union so a lot of these stories out of this whole thing I can only think of a
couple people that have ever been fired that are union employees because
normally what the Union does the union helps to protect you when you're going
through the steps to get fired and then there's also so much set up to protect
you so you won't get fired the first okay the first thing that you need to
worry about is getting off probation so normally each airline is different in
each position is different you'll be on probation for six months or
a year so for my airline I was on probation for six months
so when I first started I was a customer service agent and I was on probation for
six months and then I switched departments and so then I had to go on
probation again so that was another six months and then this last year I became
a flight attendants so I was on probation again so that was a year and a
half that I was on probation out of my six years with my airline a year and a
half of that has been on probation and if you don't know what that looks like
let me tell you how difficult probation can be it just means that you have to
make sure you're not missing work and you're not late to work and that you're
doing your job and you're doing an excellent job you're getting along with
everybody I think the hardest part of being on probation is attendance because
they give you so few my airline gives you like so few opportunities to get
caught in traffic get sick or you know be late for whatever reason so you just
have to be like meticulous about knowing what your schedule is and making sure
you show up for work when you're supposed to every time I've been on
probation I go to work early I just show up 45 minutes early because if you run
into traffic if you get a flat tire gosh there's a million things that could
happen if that happens to you a couple times you're not going to make it off
probation but after you're off probation you're protected by your Union and
there's a more generous attendance policy after your so the first step is
make it off probation the second step is your attendance so I've known of a
couple people who have gotten fired because of attendance so there's no gray
area with attendance it is yours you're gone you miss that's
a point and it just goes like that but you know if you have a doctor's note
that's one thing if you're on FMLA that is a whole other thing but just let's
say a standard attendance issue like by calling out sick that will get you a
point and each work group is different and then each work group they call it
pointing out when you point out that's when you hit the max amount of points
and you're immediately when you show up to work you're immediately walked out
they take your badge and they take you past security and then you're done so
one big way to get fired is attendance I've known a couple people
unfortunately that have gotten fired because of attendance okay the third way
oh this is a good one the third way to get fired working for an airline is to
steal things so okay this story comes to comes to us from one of my friends so
this did not happen to me but it happened to her manager
so her manager stole liquor so and got caught and got fired so when you're a
manager of a station that's a really important and serious job you have a lot
of responsibilities so to get fired for something as simple as stealing is just
really tragic so that's one way to get fired is stealing it could be time theft
which is gosh that can look like a lot of different things it can be theft of
liquor it could be theft of money it could look like oh gosh theft of plane
tickets so there are lots of ways that you know you could be stealing so just
be really careful about stealing so that's one way to get fired the number
four way to get fired from an airline is something that I've never seen
personally but I've heard so much about it because it happens frequently
unfortunately it is a manager or a supervisor having inappropriate
relationships with either other supervisors or managers or agents so I
have heard of multiple times where a manager has gotten fired or supervisor
has gotten fired for having inappropriate work relationships so
that's a very common one I can think of like probably five instances in
different cities that I've heard about where a manager or supervisor was fired
because of that so that's a quick way to get fired agents can date but like a
supervisor an agent or a manager and an agent or manager and a supervisor they
cannot date and I guess you know each airlines different but my airline has a
very strict policy about workplace dating when it comes to you know your
supervisors and managers so the number five way to get fired oh gosh this is
that the number five way is not doing your job something that happened to one
of my old co-worker basically he came to work intoxicated
actually I can think of a couple that is so sad
yeah and she'd have another co-worker I can think of two co-workers of mine that
came to work drunk and I mean you're driving heavy machinery you're dealing
with millions of dollars worth of equipment with these aircrafts it's so
important to come to work sober so I can think this is that I can think of two
people that came to work drunk and one thank goodness there was an accident at
the at the workplace but the other one there was he drove he was like drunk
driving at work gosh I can't even say that I don't even know if I can say that
okay I can't tell the specifics of what happened but basically this agent came
to work drunk nobody knew was driving a vehicle and ran into something and
immediately took a drug test and was let go so doing your job not coming to work
drunk I actually can think of a third person that's that I can think of a
third I can think of a fourth I can think of four people that's so sad oh
and these are all people that I've worked with that I know so those were
the first two another one she came to work drunk and they suspected it and she
had to take a drug test and she was fired and then another one also she came
to work drunk and she had to take a drug test and she was fired so that's four
people that I know of personally that I've worked with in the last six years
that have come to work drunk and that were fired because of being drunk at
work so that means they gosh they drove to work that is four people that I can
think of that came to work drunk which is so sad so that's the fifth tip come
to work and do your job and do what you know you're supposed to do if you avoid
gosh some of those problems you're gonna have a long healthy career in the
aviation industry seriously but those are personal experiences of people I
know that have gotten fired and I was trying to think of other people
no that's it that's all that I can think of and that was the fifth tip on how not
to get fired from an airline this is all coming from personal experience and
stuff that I've seen firsthand if you do work in the aviation industry or you're
planning on getting a job in the a Vav ation industry keep these five tips in
mind because it will save you a lot of time and heartache if you can avoid

How to Get Rid of a Puffy Face.
1.
Ice.
Dip a washcloth in ice-cold water or wrap two to three ice cubes in it.
Place this cold compress on your puffy face.
Leave on for several minutes.
2.
Massage.
Lubricate your face with a moisturizer, olive oil, or facial massage oil.
Lightly massage your face with your fingers.
Start from the forehead and gradually work your way down to the under-eye area, cheeks,
jaw line, and neck.

Facial Tapping.

Massage the area firmly in circular motion for 30 seconds.

Wash your face with cool water.
5.
Coffee Grounds.
Mix two tablespoons of finely ground coffee, two tablespoons of cocoa powder, and a tablespoon
of honey in three tablespoons of whole milk or plain yogurt.
Apply it to your face.
Scrub and wash off after 15-20 minutes.
6.
Brewed Green Tea Bags.
Steep a green tea bag in about eight ounces of hot water for three to four minutes.
Remove the teabag from water and allow it to cool.
Place the brewed tea bag on the puffy areas of your face for 20 minutes.
7.
Egg Whites.
Whip two egg whites.
Keep the mixture aside for a few minutes.
Spread it on your face and leave on for 20 minutes.
Wash off with cool water.
Rinse your face with lukewarm water.
8.
Strawberry Mask.
Mash a few strawberries with the help of a folk.
Mix two tablespoons of honey and a tablespoon of olive oil in it.
Apply it to your face.
Wash off after 10-15 minutes.

we're talking about the new Ferrari FXXK EVO!
Today we're at Mugello circuit at Finali Ferrari and here Ferrari has decided to show on its world premiere
the new track beast, the new Ferrari FXXK EVO! EVO stands for "Evolution",
in fact this is the evolution of the Ferrari FXXK. It's a package that any FXXK owner can buy and install on his car
and from what I've been told by the Ferrari technicians, the evolution on this car is truly remarkable!
Honestly I was hoping for its debut straight on the track but this one you see is not a real car, it's very similar but if you look closely you may notice some details that reveal it's just a static model.
It seems like the actual model is not yet 100% ready, but what we can already say is that with the EVO package
the power of the 12 cylinder engine has been left unchanged, still 1050hp and for a good reason,
Ferrari technicians told me this power is enough, their customers told them this car doesn't need more power so the improvements have been done mostly on the aerodynamics and eletronics of the car.
Probably one of the biggest changes you may notice - that's a standard FXXK and this is the EVO - andwe may notice one of the biggest changes is here behind, the wing.
The new wing, mixed with all these new aerodynamic components help the FXXK EVO to have 23% more of downforce compared to the standard, which is not that bad,
this makes it quicker and more stable at high speed !
Sadly they took me off the steering wheel but as you can see, you can see the new steering wheel of the EVO
which is different from the FXXK's, it's a much more user friendly steering wheel for the driver because almost
all the features have been integrated on the steering wheel, and from that we can set the electronics of the car, the kers, systems that have been upgraded.
This car is simply scary to look from any angle, just look at this massive carbon fibre diffuser!
Insane!
Sadly the interior is completely blacked out because as I told you, this is a static model but I have to say it's really nicely done in all its details.
Just look at the EVO, it's really a monster! I can't wait to see one of these in action around the track!
Just to tell you the potential of this car, well the Ferrari technicians told me the FXXK with EVO package has been 1.4s quicker than the regular FXXK, 1.4s is not bad!

Hi guys it's Ritta with rawritta.com today I'm sharing with you some period life
hacks and how you can deal with PMS. So how many of you think that PMS is normal?
It's just a part of being a woman? Well actually it's not a normal thing
typically PMS is caused by an imbalance between progesterone and estrogen so the
ratio of those two is not very well balanced it's out of whack but also PMS
what we're not taught is that it's actually a sign that our body is trying
to give us it's trying to tell us that there's something out of balance and
what causes this imbalance to happen it's typically diet it's stressed it's
for detoxification and environmental toxins today I'm mostly focusing on the
first two stress and nutrition and stuff like that
so because it's this imbalance is caused by stress and nutrition we need to be
working on that so one thing you could do is is look at your nutrition because
this one is a really important one because you don't want to have very high
blood sugar spikes and crashes because that causes your hormones to get out of
whack to get off balance so making sure that you're eating a diet that is
healthy that has a healthy amount of carbs fats and protein is going to be
very very helpful and also making sure that starting your day off with a
breakfast that is high in fats and protein will prevent those blood sugar
spikes and and crashes during and throughout the day so like it's at first
up take a look at your nutrition you want to be eating in a way that is
where your blood sugar is going to be stable because the stable blood sugar is
what's going to keep your home hormone levels healthy and the second thing to
look at is exercise how are you exercising if you're doing too much
intense exercising and and excess that that is inappropriate for your body then
that again is going to cause you cause the imbalance of those hormones you
don't want to be exercising in a way that you hate you don't want to be
exercising in a way that you feel obligated to do just because you want to
look a certain way and I've already done another video of how to work out smart
and not just hard and how to make sure you're exercising right for your own
body and I'm gonna link that in the description box below so that you can
watch it and check it out as well but basically it all comes comes down to
this question that you ask yourself how do I feel when I do this workout is this
exercise does it feel good both mentally and physically if you're saying no if
your answer is no to both of these questions then you need to change things
up you need to find what works for you
number three is sleep yes I'm gonna mention it I'm gonna keep mentioning
because I feel like sleep is such an like it's very underlooked it's it's not
very appreciated in our society and to me I think that if you work on your
sleep that's probably the best thing you can do for your overall health because a
lot of people can actually get away with eating bad foods but if they get a
really really good night's sleep every day they can be pretty healthy so I'm
not saying long-term that's very healthy but it just goes to show you how
important sleep is if when you're sleeping so many things are happening in
your body you are restoring you are balancing hormones
you are detoxifying and so much more while you're sleeping so working on your
sleep is so so important to balancing your hormones and preventing PMS and I
have a sleep sheet that you can download completely free that where I share all
kinds of tricks and you know I share like what kind of teas will help you
sleep better some meditations and affirmations and also I'm sharing the
right movements that you can do at night a little bit of like stretching yoga
movements that will really help you relax your muscles in your body and help
you get a better night's sleep so working in your sleep and getting every
single day a good quality restorative sleep is going to help you prevent PMS
and or at least less than the symptoms of PMS and make you overall healthier
the last thing is working on your stress or lifestyle so all the three things
that I mentioned earlier nutrition exercise and sleep can actually cause a
lot of stress on you if you're not managing at them right so if you're not
eating right if you are over exercising if you're not getting good quality of
sleep those are all stresses on your body whatever is going on in your daily
life making sure that you manage that daily stress it's very very important it
could be something as simple as committing to meditating for 10 minutes
every day it could be that you take a 20 minute Epsom salt bath because that
actually really helps you alleviate pain it helps you with circulation and
also it's some form of self-care so look into a way of taking more care of
yourself so that you can be managing stress your overall stress in your life

First I don't know if you know deep mind but it's
an AI company (one of the best in the world) that has been acquired by Google in
2014 and
It's often described as a kind of Appolo program for AI because it gathers the best scientists
and the best engineers to make quick progress in this domain and
their goal is
first to solve intelligence and
second to use step one to solve complex problems so for instance it can be climate change, it can be healthcare.
They have created a computer program called Alpha Go, so I don't know if you know the game of Go
but it's a Chinese game that has been played for a really long time and
Actually, it's not even considered to be a game
But like a complex art form and what is really fascinating about
The game of Go is that there are more possible moves than atoms in the entire universe.
So in fact Alpha Go needs some sort of human intuition to work and
Actually it turned out that Alpha Go was just the beginning
Because Deep Mind just announced an improved form of the program called Alpha Go Zero and this new system
marks a significant technological jump from the Alpha Go program.
Because unlike Alpha Go, Alpha Go Zero doesn't need human data or guidance and
What I mean by that is that to learn the rules of go,
Alpha Go has been showed a lot of previous games that have been played by humans.
But Alpha Go Zero doesn't need that, because it will learn the rules by competing just against itself without
prior knowledge of the game, so you don't need to show it a lot of previous games, a lot of human data
you don't need that and
After just three days of playing against itself so it played
around five million times.
Alpha Go Zero beats Alpha Go
By 100 games to zero so we can say that Alpha Go Zero just became the world Go champion

The U.S. is the number-one trash producing country in the world.
This means that four percent of the world's population is responsible for
nearly twenty percent of the world's waste. So we said M. Sanjayan, a UCLA
visiting researcher and the head of Conservation International, to meet with
Lauren. "You would, like, freak out if you, like, saw my life. I mean you really would."
"I was an average consumer four years ago." "No, no... you would be freaking out." The two of them
compared their toiletry kits... "What is all this?" ...to see if there are some simple
ways that Sanjayan could reduce his trash impact. "I don't even know what's in here,
now I'm like, 'Oh my god!'"
"Toothpaste." "Toothpaste." "But mine's got 'Sensi-relief."
"I don't even know what that means."
Lauren makes her own toothpaste and the
recipe is actually pretty easy. One tablespoon of baking soda, two
tablespoons of coconut oil, 1/4 teaspoon of stevia and then 15 to 20 drops of
peppermint oil. "If you wonder, you know why is toothpaste peppermint-flavored
or cinnamon-flavored, it's not like arbitrary, random. It's because peppermint
oil and cinnamon oil are really great antimicrobial and antibacterial agents.
so this, actually, I'll just put some peppermint oil in water and use it as a
mouthwash. So you just stir everything together."
"This is crazy it really is toothpaste?" "Yeah."
"How different is this from what I buy in the tube?" "So this won't foam up, there's
no foaming agent. Most toothpastes will use sodium lauryl sulfate." "And why do
they do that?" "So companies do that because they're simple shortcuts and they
think that's what people want ,but they dictate, kind of, what people want. So for
instance, this might taste salty to you..." "No, actually it taste actually pretty good."
And it smells good, and it's easy, and it's a lot less expensive than
buying toothpaste. So like, I shave with this so this is my razor and then the
blades are just stainless steel like super, super recyclable, come packaged in paper. Easy."
'OK. That I've had for a long time. But these do get replaced and they are expensive." "I can buy 100
blades for like $20 and that's enough for the next ten years of my life. And like
four of those are $20." "Like I could do this, but definitely when you travel
they're going to be all over you for the blade. I have a funny feeling TSA treats you
slightly differently than they treat me. Can you imagine if I try to bring this on a plane?"
"But they're really easy to find in any city at any like barber shop or
whatever. So actually baking soda works really well as deodorant and sometimes
you can just use that, but this is a mix of shea butter, coconut oil, baking soda,
arrowroot powder, and essential oils." "So there's deodorant and there's
antiperspirant." "You should not make yourself not sweat. It's how your body
eliminates toxins and cools itself naturally." "Yeah but but isn't there a
practicality to this?" "Sweating can be sexy." "I know, but you don't want, like
you can't sit on a plane with some sweaty guy next to you. It's not going to be
sexy trust me. Like this is a genuine challenge, right? So I don't like using
this stuff partly because it's got aluminum as one
of the active ingredients." "You definitely should not use that at all. You should probably change that real quick."
But there isn't anything?" "Can you wear an undershirt?"
'OK..." "But lots of men do that lots of women do
that." "Yeah, yeah. I could."
"Did you make that or did you...?" "My friend made it for me." "OK."
"You use the same soap for as shampoo as well as soap?" "Shampoo, soap, face wash." "Isn't there
like a difference?" "Nope...marketing. This is conditioner that I buy
in bulk." "What's in conditioner?" "Conditioner is essentially just like a
lotion, but you can use aloe vera or coconut oil and it works just as well." "So
of all these things that you've shown me, the one that I'm really convinced about
and to be absolutely honest I would probably incorporate into my own life
is the toothpaste. One, because that tastes actually pretty good and it's easy."
There's definitely not a one-size-fits-all way to reduce your
waste. "I think the best place to start is just by looking at your trash and seeing
what you're already throwing away and seeing if they're simple ways to
remediate those problems. If there's something that you notice you're
throwing away a significant amount of, it's as simple as doing a search on my
blog Trash as for Tossers, or a really simple Google search asking, you know,
'What's the sustainable alternative to...' There's also lots of one-time
changes that can be made that have a large-scale and long-term positive
impact. So using reusable bags, Using reusable coffee cups. So it's just
identifying what the problems are and then finding simple sustainable
solutions to them." And the University of California wants to make some of these
simple changes too. UC is committed to going zero waste by 2020. Across the UC
system, we've already diverted 69 percent of our solid waste from landfills. But
getting all the way to zero waste, especially at this scale is a real
