why I stopped making New Year's resolutions coming up next
hey everyone welcome to Wednesday's crystal I'm crystal Sparks I'm so glad
you're here hey happy new year wherever this finds you I hope that your year is
off to a great start I want to talk to you about why I quit making New Year's
resolutions I know that this is the popular thing and it almost seems
contradictory because we are in January right everybody's going to the gym
everybody's got those goals of saving money doing all these things so crystal
what are you talking about why don't you make New Year's resolutions
okay so I'll just say this I used to be like everybody else the year would start
off and I would have my whole life all the things like I'm gonna get out of dad
I'm gonna lose what's away I'm gonna get closer to God I'm gonna do all these
things I would have all this stuff and you know what I would start off the year
I'd start off so good and then by January 2nd I was still going okay but
by January 10th I was starting to lose momentum and then by the end of the
month I completely forgotten what my goals were and I was back to living life
as I always lived and then one day I was sitting in a service and I was listening
to a pastor preach and he said something that revolutionized my life forever and
he said this stop making New Year's resolutions and seek God for a new years
revelation that completely transformed my life that one sentence begin to
change everything for me because I'm no longer make goals and things that I
wanted to do now of a sudden I began to seek God and asked him what he wanted me
to do I love in Psalm 34 verse 4 it says I sought the Lord and he delivered me
see here's the thing is that the Bible says Jesus even said that if you seek
Him you will find him knock in the door will be open and so here's the thing
is that if we want to begin to really start seeing results New Year's
resolutions if you will just be honest it's all about us it's all about I need
to do more I need to try harder I need to do all these things but an ears
revelation is all on God it's saying God what is your will for my life but what
is your plan for this year but what do you want me to
give the best of my time energy and resources to this year and when we begin
to do that amazing things begin to happen and so every single year since
then I carve out a period of time where I do nothing but just seek the face of
God well crystal we all have jobs like we can't just seek the face of God I'm
not talking about quitting your job and quitting your kids for a few weeks to
just seek the face of God what I'm talking about is this is I spend time
with God every single day and my express purpose is this is God I want to hear
what you have to say Lord my ears are open as the Bible says I love this so
much speak for your servant is listening I get before God with that kind of heart
and I say God hears my ear and I want to know what is your plan for my life what
do you want me to become what do you want me to do what are the past that I
should take what are the roads that I should go down and when I begin to do
that you know what happens is God begins to speak the Bible says seek and you
will find him knock and the door will be open and what happens is that period of
time I set aside to just say God you are the reason why I'm here and all of a
sudden God began to speak and he began to show me things to do and you know
what I went from just setting goals to now achieving goals it was no longer
about what I could do in my own strength I love Jesus says that every word of God
is full of his power and his ability to perform what he's asked us to do see
when I say something on my own and then it's all about me to perform it that
means it's performance-based results but when God begins to speak it not only
does he speak it but he gives us the ability the power and the want to to
begin to do it and when that began to happen everything in my world began to
change so every year I asked God for a word and I challenge the people who are
lead to get a new years revelation so what does that look like well every year
the Lord has told me different things in fact one year whenever we were gonna
plant our church I didn't even know that we were going to plant it I had been
praying and asking God God what is your direction for our lives I knew that
something was coming but I didn't know what and I heard the God I heard God
speak very clearly that sometimes you're gonna have to stay when it would be
easier to go and then you're gonna have to go when it would be easier to stay
and so I wrote it down the Lord wouldn't stop saying it to me so I wrote it down
and then sure enough months went by and God was stirring my spirit so bad that I
wanted to go and and he was saying stay and then finally when the Lord release
us and we packed up that moving truck and we watched the door closed to it I
said God now I want to stay even though it's time to go see the Lord gave me
that word and it was such a good word and it helps to sing me that entire year
time went on and there was another year that the Lord told me he said very
firmly I want you to take a crowd and make disciples and I said okay Lord and
he began to show me steps of what to do and those steps is what began my first
she leads class which now has gone on to an online program called in the lead
where I've seen hundreds of people go through this program they've
accomplished their dreams and their goals and it's not because I'm great
it's because when we seek the Lord we find him and God gave me a strategic
plan of how to move people forward how to begin to grow them spiritually but it
all came from that one word where the Lord said I want you to turn a crowd
into disciples there was another time that the Lord spoke to me and he said
you're going to be one house with many rooms and I said Lord what does this
even mean and in that year we bought a house that was over double our past
houses size and God gave us some amazing opportunities to begin to grow our
ministry what he was he saying one house many rooms it was time to expand it was
time to do more and then this year coming up for 2018 the Lord gave me the
shortest word he's ever given and it's the word go just go I had no clue where
the Lord is calling me to go or where he's going to take me but I know
that's my word for this 2018 year is the word go so what is God speaking to you
so how do I do that practically well the first thing that we do is Brian and I we
take the first 21 days of the year and we're actually starting it this year in
2018 we're starting on January 8th and we take 21 days of prayer and fasting
and what we do is we just seek the face of God for 21 days we set out a carved
amount of time that is just for the Lord and you know what happens is God begins
to show up he begins to speak to us he gives us divine instruction in fact
every big thing that has happened in my life happened because out of those 21
days of prayer and fasting the Lord spoke it and we began to watch
the plan unfold so the first thing we do is we give a tithe of our year we give
that first part of the year to God we set that amount of time aside just for
God to hear him the second thing I do is I'll write it down you know if you don't
write something down you're gonna forget it
kind of like how you get to the grocery store and you look around you go why am
I here have you ever done that I do that all the time I'll walk into the grocery
store and I can't remember why I'm there and I end up spending a whole lot of
money that I didn't need to spend on stuff that I didn't need to buy why cuz
I'm trying to remember why I'm there I think that's the way most people go
through their entire life they're walking through and oh yeah I'll take
that job yeah I'll buy that house yeah I'll get that car yeah I'll take that
opportunity and we're filling our cart full of things that are good but they're
not God we didn't take the time to say God what is your plan for my life God
what is your plan for the year and when we write that down everything that we do
for the rest of year Brian and I look at that word from God and we say God does
this line up with what you spoke to us and if the answer is no then we turn
down the opportunity because we know that that word is the compass for our
year so I want you to get a word from God so write it down and number one
you're in a seek God first write your name set some time aside that you're in
a seat guide get in his word and begin a seat Kim and number two you are going to
write it down and number three this is what I want you to do is I want you to
tell somebody about it when God speaks it to
you that's great to keep it private but here's the thing is that when you keep
it private then nobody really knows to be able to encourage you into it I want
you to tell other people about it you know whenever we begin to tell other
people about it what happens is our faith begins to expand and it helps them
to it helps encourage them to go get a word from God for themselves but it
helps them to be able to talk to you about it along the way and so how cool
is it for you to be able to announce over people I've had God tell me one
time at the beginning of the year it's harvest season and so I told everybody
in my life it's harvest season you know nothing in my life looked like it was
harvest season at all but by the end of the year we saw God do so many amazing
miracles and it was really neat for not just me but the people in my life
because they could say hey I remember when you said it was harvest season and
look at all the good things God's doing now so hey did you get something out of
that no more New Year's resolutions you're
gonna have an years of God revelation amen a nears revelation for what God
wants to do so hey I'm so proud of you for being here on my channel if you
