Mega Man X7 (Playstation 2/PS2) - INNOCENT Until Proven Guilty! - Duration: 16:01.Mega Man X7 is the bane of the Blue Bomber's existence, but in this video game court, it's
Innocent Until Proven Guilty!
Court is now in session for a busteriffic episode of Innocent Until Proven Guilty!
Capcom's iconic mascot has had a long history of ups & downs.
His unfortunate absence over most of this decade has been one of the major downs, but
there's one notable aberration that definitely surpasses it.
On October 14th, 2003, the Blue Bomber's futuristic counterpart transitioned into the
third dimension with a title that's been condemned by fans & critics alike.
I've known of this notorious offender's reputation for quite awhile, but I've yet
to have enough personal experience to form an opinion...until now.
After receiving a bunch of requests over the years, the time has finally come to bring
Mega Man X7 to trial!
Mega Man X7 was released for the Playstation 2 & marked the franchise's first steps outside
of its 16 & 32 bit comfort zone.
The infamous black sheep in the Capcom catalog largely sticks to the tried & true formula
of its predecessors & kicks off with a shocking twist...X has retired from active duty & the
Maverick Hunters are in disarray without his guidance, paving the way for the rise of the
Red Alert vigilante group.
Red Alert is not surprisingly led by a guy named Red and he's supported in his efforts
by Axl, the aspiring hunter in training.
The story takes a tragic turn for the worse when the bulk of the Red Alert agents go haywire,
resulting in Axl defecting from his former comrades & fleeing for his life.
The playable prologue that follows serves as a tutorial & shifts the focus onto the
aforementioned rookie, whose controls offer a mix of original & recycled mechanics.
Axl retains the dash & charged shot of his idol, but ups the ante with a floating ability
& ditches the buster in favor of a multi-purposed blaster.
During my initial playthrough, Axl quickly became my preferred protagonist & I found
him to be a fascinating addition to the lore, but Capcom's decision to put the spotlight
on him instead of the titular character was certain to turn off SNES raised retro enthusiasts.
Luckily, the designers seem to have recognized this potential problem and placated their
die-hard fanbase in advance by devoting a sizable chunk of the disc space to the linear
2d sidescrolling that put the franchise on the map & sweetened the pot even further by
speedily re-introducing Zero into the picture.
The scarlet sword toting bad-ass monologues in a gruff voice ripped straight out of a
western before entering into a virtual recreation of the classic stage that started it all.
Zero's ultra powerful Z Saber & close range technique perfectly compliment Axl's run
& gun style & their combined forces swiftly decimate the rampaging Mechaniloid, triggering
another cutscene that continues the narrative.
Axl is arrested for the destruction he was indirectly responsible for and he informs
X, Zero & the rest of the Maverick Hunters about the situation he's become mired in.
I suppose I should take this opportunity to address one of Mega Man X7's biggest flaws...
the voice acting.
Wow...I'm speechless.
I'm normally able to see the silver lining in everything, but that is beyond redemption.
It blows my mind that this got the green light from Capcom & what makes it even weirder is
that these people are still working in the field to this day.
In fact, X's English actor went on to dub lines for ARMS & Super Bomberman R!
In fairness to Peter von Gomm, this was one of his first projects and he's apparently
honed his craft in recent years judging by the clips I've heard online, but that doesn't
atone for this painful performance & I'd strongly suggest toggling over to the Japanese
audio track instead.
Ah, much better.
Axl's interrogation by the hunters is interrupted by Red, who issues a challenge to determine
the fate of his former colleague.
X is reluctant to comply, so Zero partners up with the fugitive in order to shut down
Red & his goons for good.
With the set-up for the rest of the plot firmly established, the robot master selection screen
pops up and we're introduced to the simultaneously most bizarre & least creative rogue's gallery
to appear in any of the Mega Man titles to date.
Capcom was clearly scrapping the bottom of the barrel with such WTF worthy characters
as Tornado Tunion, Vanishing Gungaroo, Ride Boarski & Flame Hyenard.
The levels that lead up to this crazy crew check off most of the essential tropes, with
settings ranging from a fiery inferno to a treacherous jungle, but the majority mirror
the robot master's lack of inspiration by sharing an overwhelmingly similar industrial
feel in common.
Each area is broken down into a series of two & three dimensional segments & the player
has the option to tackle them with a team of two of the protagonists.
Axl & Zero are the default choices, but X jumps back into the fray after destroying
all of the robot masters or saving 64 reploids.
The reploids are scattered around the various locations & rescuing them not only restores
X's fighting spirit, but they also reward power-up parts that can be redeemed in the
upgrade menu to reach our heroes' full potential.
These particular upgrades can only be accessed upon finishing or failing a mission, but they're
supplemented by the heart health expansions & e-tanks, as well as X's signature armor pieces.
In keeping with the tradition of the series, there are holographic capsules hidden within
four of the main sections & entering them will transform Doctor Light's creation into
a mean machine of superior strength.
The Glide Armor is absolutely necessary for achieving the maximum fun factor since the
stock X really, REALLY sucks.
Stock X's charged buster shot is admittedly a massive improvement over Axl's pea shooter,
but he can't double jump, nor can he hover, and he has very little protection against
the ravenous hordes waiting to grind him into microscopic particles.
The Glide Armor rectifies every single one of these shortcomings & implements a new attack
called Giga Crash that chips a huge amount of energy off of the bosses' meters.
On my first session, I relied on Axl's rolling death ball maneuver to wallop Red's renegades,
but armored X rendered that redundant on my second & I became intimately familiar with
the cheesy cinematics that unfold before & after each enemy encounter in the process.
The dialogue alternates depending on which character is chosen & the voice cast churns
it out in an atrocious, stilted manner.
Flame Hyenard in particular has become a bit of a meme recently & most people understandably
find it to be abrasive, but I think it's hilarious.
Anyway, the bosses can be eliminated by utilizing the typical Rock, Paper, Scissors weakness
exploitation system, but I was able to progress past them with the standard tools of the trade
& I soon discovered the location of the Red Alert base, as well as the identity of the
secret puppet master manipulating the strings the entire time, who turns out to be...
you guessed it...
Sigma.
The road to Sigma involves a string of Wily's castle-esque travails, including a frantic
chase from a bulldozer bot, an escalation up a bat & boulder filled corridor, & the
climactic showdown with Red.
Red is a tough, teleporting S.O.B. & it took me a number of attempts to figure out the
best strategy to combat his trickery, but I eventually brought him down with the combination
of Axl's Volt Tornado & Zero's sword blasts.
Upon Red's defeat & the completion of the prerequisite boss rush, Sigma steps out of
the shadows & engages his lifelong adversaries in a two part battle.
The first is very simple & I was able to annihilate the fierce foe as Glide Armor X without breaking
a sweat, but his gargantuan second appearance turned out to be much less of a pushover.
Between the unsteady footholds & insta-kill ground pounds, I had a hell of a time fending
off this ridiculously cheap bastard, but I eventually got into a groove, switching around
the protagonists with reckless abandon whenever their specific sets of skills were required,
& I finally put this sucker behind me.
The ensuing anime ending has Sigma making a last stand & pulverizing Axl with a mighty punch.
All seems lost as Red emerges unscathed from the rubble & re-teams with Sigma, but this
miraculous twist of fate is revealed to be a clever ruse devised by Axl, who swiftly
sends Sigma flying out of the window.
The story wraps up on an ambiguous note with one out of three possible codas, which are
determined by the character that dealt Sigma's death blow.
The plot apparently continues into the final sequel, but I've never played it, so I have
no idea which of these codas is canon.
Regardless of what follows, Mega Man X7 presents a unique case.
It's the only installment in the franchise to incorporate 3D segments & it reduces the
formerly awesome titular character into a pathetic preachy pacifist who plays second
fiddle to an annoying whiny brat.
The dialogue is trash delivered by a bunch of rank amateurs, the robot masters are uninspired
& that's just the tip of this disastrous iceberg.
With that said, though, there are a lot of positive traits associated with Mega Man X7.
The presentation is surprisingly solid and I really dig the cel-shaded art style.
The controls are tight & the gameplay offers a respectable amount of variety.
Plus, the issue that's considered to be a major flaw by most is...well...still a gigantic
flaw, but an extremely amusing one.
The cutscenes are the epitome of "so bad it's good" & I found myself laughing on
numerous occasions at the sheer absurdity of it all.
However, I can't escape from the notion that this is a gigantic insult to the fans.
It took one of the coolest sidescrolling stars of the 16 bit era & turned him into a worthless,
spineless ninny, and that is a completely unforgivable offense as far as I'm concerned,
so I have no choice but to rule that Mega Man X7 is guilty of all charges!
In the entire history of this show, I've never had a verdict tie me up in knots as
much as this.
There are a lot of things that I appreciate about this game & I admire Capcom's courage
in taking such a bold risk, but you really have to be able to separate this from the
series to get any kind of enjoyment from it.
As a generic 3D platformer, it's pretty decent, but as a Mega Man X title, it's
an epic disappointment.
The decision to nerf the legendary hero was a boneheaded blunder that ultimately soured
my overall experience & anyone expecting to get the warm nostalgia fuzzies should stay
far away from this frustrating failure.
Anyway, now that I've condemned this despised degenerate from the sixth console generation,
it's time for another Cygnus review.
Be sure to come back for that and to leave any recommendations for future trials in the
comments below, but until then, court is now adjourned!

CNN 10 | CNN Student News | January 22, 2018 | U.S. government shutdown - Duration: 10:01.A partial shutdown in the U.S. government.
That's what officially started on Friday night, and was still going when we
produced this show.
That's first today on CNN 10.
Congress and the president have to agree on funding for the U.S. government for all of
its offices to stay open.
They haven't.
Their latest deadline
to do this was Friday night.
And though the House of Representatives passed a measure last week to keep the government
funded temporarily, that
measure failed in the Senate, and Democrats and Republicans spent the weekend blaming
each other for the roadblock.
Republicans control both chambers of Congress and the White House.
So, Democrats believe voters will blame Republicans for the shutdown.
But the Republican majority in the Senate is slim.
They hold 51 seats to the Democrats' 49, and Republicans believe Democrats will be
blamed because
they filibuster.
They moved against legislation that would have kept the government open, and there weren't
enough votes in the Senate to overcome
the filibuster.
So, why did Democrats filibuster?
Before they approve the budget, they want an agreement to be reached on what happens
to 700,000 people who came
or were brought to the U.S. illegally as children.
Republicans don't want to negotiate on that until enough Democrats vote to reopen the
government
first.
So, yesterday afternoon, both sides were dug in.
Most Americans are not directly affected by a government shutdown, but those who are face
some uncertainty.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
TOM FOREMAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Roughly 1.9 million government workers would
be considered essential and stay on the job.
Air traffic controllers, security officers, food inspectors, prison guards, Social Security
checks would go out.
The post office would be open.
But
at a steep price to many workers.
MICK MULVANEY, DIRECTOR, OFFICE OF MANAGEMENT AND BUDGET: The military will still go to
work.
They will not get paid, OK?
The border will still
be patrolled.
They will not get paid.
FOREMAN: Meanwhile many services would be stopped or delayed.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would back down its flu tracking program
even as the nation faces the worst outbreak in years.
Some senior nutrition programs would be paused.
Two hundred thousand passport
applications went unprocessed in 1995.
Congress funds much of the scientific research done in this country.
In 2013, that meant some
experiments went on hold and suffered costly losses of data.
And in space same year, that same year, for more than two weeks, NASA reportedly stopped
monitoring potentially dangerous asteroids.
A big one,
by the way, is expected to brush by Earth on February 4th.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
AZUZ: Activists and protesters, Hollywood stars and politicians turned out in cities
worldwide over the weekend for what's called the Women's March.
The first one also a massive event, was held a year ago, on the weekend when U.S. President
Donald Trump was inaugurated.
And many of this year's
demonstrators, like those in the first women's march protested against the election and the
policies of the U.S. leader.
President Trump tweeted that people should march to celebrate America's economic success
over the past year, and the lowest female unemployment in
18 years.
Other issues of the march included sexual harassment.
Recently, there's been a wave of acquisitions against politicians, entertainers and members
of the media.
Religious freedom, immigration, women's rights and equality were also addressed by
hundreds of thousand of men, women and children who
marched in America.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
AZUZ (voice-over): Ten-second trivia.
Most cars on the road today have what level of autonomous technology?
None, partial, conditional, or high automation?
The vast majority of today's cars are still at level zero, meaning they have no automation
and that the driver is in ultimate control at all times.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
AZUZ: And that's even if they have blind spot monitoring or emergency breaking systems.
The manufacturers are moving toward making cars with more autonomy.
And one big argument for that safety.
The U.S. government estimates that 94
percent of deadly car crashes are because of human error and that driverless cars could
significantly reduce that.
But what if they're
hacked?
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
REPORTER: We all carry computers in our pockets, and every day machines like thermostats, refrigerator,
cameras, and even our cars are connected
online.
Experts call this constant connection the Internet of things.
And just like everything else, it's susceptible to security breaches.
The two big
questions that I have: could autonomous vehicles be hacked to hurt us?
And how can we be sure that the personal data that we produce in these cars are
protected?
The answers are still not perfectly clear.
BRUCE SCHNEIER, CYBER-SECURITY EXPERT: The Internet of things is going to have enormous
benefits that I think we can't even begin to realize -- the
power of computerizing and networking our environment.
But there are risks also.
Here we are creating an Internet that senses things and acts.
What we know about computers and software is that they
have bugs, they have vulnerabilities.
All computer systems can be hacked.
So, you can easily imagine these attacks being used against cars to cause
the car computer systems to crash, or cars being used as the attack vector.
So, as we build autonomous systems that affect the world, in a direct physical manner we
risk bad actors doing it.
We risk glitches and errors,
causing physical harm.
REPORTER: Using cars as weapons is unfortunately already a tactic used around the world.
The good news is that perhaps far into the future,
properly functioning autonomous cars won't allow humans to hit people.
It could neutralize this tactic of terrorism.
But if the cars can be
controlled remotely or hacked and programmed to cause harm, it could bring on a whole new
set of issues.
To see what's being done to make these systems more secure, I visited a company that actually
started out in the video game industry.
Nvidia now
also makes the graphic processing chips that go into driverless cars.
DANNY SHAPIRO, SENIOR DIRECTOR OF AUTOMOTIVE AT NVIDIA: We've developed an artificial
intelligent brain for the car.
REPORTER: And how they build those chips will have major impacts on the safety of future
driverless cars.
SHAPIRO: What we're building is a computer first and then a car is built around it.
We're essentially building a map of the world in real time
based on what we sense.
We had cameras, ultrasonic sensors, radars, Lidar, which is a laser scanner, and each
of those sensors are generating a
massive amount of data.
REPORTER: Data collection is crucial for allowing these cars to function.
But like security, it also raises questions about how the information
gathered from our personal lives will be used.
The new technology has the attention of privacy advocates like Lauren Smith at the Future
of Privacy
Forum in Washington, D.C., a group that explores issues with all sorts of home gadgets, like
Amazon Echo's Alexa system, drones, even smart dolls.
LAUREN SMITH, FUTURE OF PRIVACY FORUM: Alexa, are you spying on me?
AMAZON ECHO'S ALEXA SYSTEM: I only send audio back to Amazon when I hear you say wake
word.
REPORTER: And now, autonomous cars.
SMITH: It's important that people start to think about their cars in the same way
that they think about their computer or smartphone.
So, if you
use a technology like this that relies on connectivity, that relies on data inputs and
outputs, you are creating sort of an information trail.
SCHNEIER: Data has good and bad uses.
There are some very powerful reasons to collect data about us and our society and put it together
so we
can do research, we can data-deliver services.
Smart government is the wave of the future.
But the same data can be used for surveillance, for
control.
I don't really think any government is prepared for the Internet of things and what it's
going to do.
These are computers that affect the world in direct physical manner.
And there are risks to life and property.
Largely, Western governments have taken a very hands-off view to regulation of Internet.
The United States is special.
And that worked great when it
didn't matter, when it was data, when it was a spreadsheet, when it was conversation.
But when it's a car and it's a medical device, when it's an
appliance, when it can actually do physical harm, that changes everything.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
AZUZ: OK.
So, let's pretend a freezer malfunctions and continues making ice long after the tray
is full.
That might look a bit like what happened
recently in Ohio, except that in this case, the freezer was the Arctic and the tray was
Lake Erie.
Ice shoves or ice tsunamis formed when winds blow ice across the lake and into its shores
where it files and forms mountains of ice.
Some hills here
grew to be more than 30 feet high.
If they're not fans of "Frozen", the locals better hope it stops or Elsa.
Sure, some fans may find it Arendelightful but it's hard to conceal don't
feel when a lake shore crystallizes like an icy blast, potentially causing an Olaf of
problems.
Unless, of course, the cold doesn't bother you
anyway.
I'm Carl Azuz for CNN 10.

Assertiveness: How To Be More Assertive - A Practical Advice ✓ - Duration: 15:16.So, I was just going through my daily emails from LIG members. And I found another topic
that you d be interested in. This is a topic about being assertive. Let me read the question
then I ll share with you my practical advice so you can be more assertive in your day to
day dealings at work.
Here s the email;
Deniz, I constantly feel that I am being ignored and I don t get the support I need from other
departments. I d like to be more assertive but I simply don t know how. My requests keep
getting ignored or rejected. This has not only affected my work at McKinsey negatively
as I can t get things done, but also impacted my psychology. I am afraid I am going to end
up becoming a push over if things go this way. So, I was wondering given your management
consulting background if you can maybe share with me a few tips that will allow me to become
more assertive at work?
Yes. I do have a couple suggestions for you.
But let s very quickly first cover the definition so we are on the same page. Being assertive
for me is getting what you want out of a conversation. Out of a communication exchange.
Now, I am sure you know the communication is visual, verbal, and vocal. Right? Visual
being your body language, verbal is the words you use, and vocal is how those words come
out.
Now, I don t want to spend much time on the visual part; the body language. I am sure
you heard this a million times. Don t slump, use hand gestures, chin up, etc. These are
simple stuff. It s just projecting confidence.
But what makes the biggest, the biggest difference comes from your verbal communication. And
you ll find out soon that it has nothing to do with having rich vocabulary, or using sophisticated
words, or intonations.
But before I get there. Let me share with you how conversations usually go when you
want something done.
Let s say you want a report delivered on Tuesday. You go to concerned employee and he refuses
you.
Usually, the conversation goes like this;
You go and say hey Deniz, do you mind submitting the report on Tuesday. I need to get the data
from that report because I have a presentation on Wednesday to the CEO. And CEO will actually
use it on his presentation to the board.
So, you think you laid out your argument very articulately, and you are expecting a positive
response. But the problem is you threw all your bullets in one shot. Meaning, you used
all the arguments you can potentially present in immediately at the beginning.
Now, what if the guy says that sorry I can t do it. I have another presentation and I
don t have time. What else is there for you to say? You ran out of bullets.
Seriously, what are you going to say? Please? Pretty please? The only thing you can do at
that stage is by trying to convince him that your bullets are bigger than his bullet. You
got nothing else left. You are going to lose that battle.
Right? I mean think about it. Your first bullet was that you d like to get it on Tuesday.
Second bullet was that it s important because you have a presentation to the CEO. And the
Third bullet was that it s extra important because CEO will use that data for the board
presentation. Unless you have power in the organization, like your role, authority, you
are going to lose that battle.
You are with me so far?
My way is different. My way works like a charm for me. I ve been using this for the past
15 years in my consulting career and it really works. I ve been using this for the past 15
years in my consulting career and it just works.
So, what I do differently is that I shoot my bullets one by one.
I go and say; hi Deniz, could you please give me the report by Tuesday?
Let s say the guy says no. So, he s going to shoot his bullet, right?> He s going to
say sorry I can t because I also have a presentation and I don t have time.
Then, you shoot your second bullet. Yeah, I understand but this is actually for the
CEO.
Most likely, he is going to yield after your second bullet and say ah I see. Yeah sure.
But let s say he didn t. And he said, yeah I wish I could but you know I really don t
have time. See, he is just repeating his bullet at this stage. But you got one more in the
stock. Then you shoot your 3rd bullet, and say; I understand but actually the CEO will
use this data for his presentation to the board presentation. See&
At that time, the most likely outcome is that he ll say ok. He still may not but again it
s all about increasing probabilities of the outcome you want. So, by this way, you ll
definitely double your chances of winning that little battle.
So, this is one simple trick that I always use. Try it next time. I am sure you ll get
great benefits.
Eventually, if you consistently pay attention to this, what is going to happen is that it
will become a habit. So, by the time it takes you to start walking towards the guy for your
request, your brain is going to get to work and start listing your bullets. And eventually
you ll get so advanced at this that you ll pick and choose which bullets to fire based
on his response. So, you ll have like 5 bullets ready to be fired all prepared by the time
you walk up to him.
Ok. This was one technique that you can use.
Now, it just so happens that sometimes you don t have enough bullets, right? You don
t have a CEO using that report, or that the CEO will use that data for his presentation
to the board. You just want it on Tuesday and that s it no bullets nothing.
If you find yourself in that situation, then I suggest you follow this.
Let s say you fired your first bullet, the guy said no he s busy. Then you repeat again,
I really appreciate if you can do this by Tuesday. You ll realize that out of 10 conversations,
you ll convert at least 2 of them just by repeating your request. If you have kids then
you know what I am talking about. You don t have to insist 100 times but repeat at least
once more. There is a high likelihood that they may just yield simply because you insisted.
I mean do you know why kids do this? Because it works. Kids are not as mannered as you,
they have limited social skills, they are driven by simple logic like If This Then That.
I insist, I get what I want. The only problem with kids is that it s just they take it too
extremes. Simply because they don t care about bad manners.
So, repeat your request at least one more.
Let s say even if they don t yield, there is a chance that they ll look for a common
medium. For example, he may end up saying, ok I can do it on Tuesday but only in the
afternoon, is it fine? See, great!
If they still say no after you insisted politely, and that they presented no alternatives, no
common mediums, then you present them. You say, how about Tuesday afternoon.
Let me put this in numbers. So, let s say you have 100 wins. Win meaning you getting
what you want out of that conversation.
So, out of that 100 wins, 70 of them will come from just being strategic with your bullets,
and firing them one by one instead of firing them all at the same time.
20 of them will come from standing your ground firmly and repeating your request.
And 10 of them will come from finding common grounds or compromises, like Tuesday afternoon
instead of morning.
Cool?
So, this was a technique you can use. You ll be amazed by the results. You ll see.
But I also need to address the foundation here. The foundation is that whether you are
highly agreeable or not. And as humans, we all have different levels of agreeableness.
You know it s like on one end, you have aggressively stubborn people who are very difficult to
get along with, and the other end of the spectrum we have total push overs. Obviously, neither
extreme is good for you. You ideally want to be on the right side of this axis.
Being highly agreeable is your number 1 enemy when it comes to being assertive.
Let me explain.
If your ultimate goal is to arrive at an agreement, then you will give up too soon just to find
a way to agree. You cannot be assertive and seek agreement all the time. It s just not
possible.
For example, let s continue with the same example. You want that report on Tuesday.
The guys says he s busy. If you are a highly agreeable person, then you will want to say,
ok when can you give it to me?
You lost the game just right there. Game over. Now he sets the schedule. You didn t get what
you wanted.
Now, being highly agreeable, it s fine if you are a part of a big team. Or that your
job doesn t require much shaking things you know. You get into lesser arguments, you avoid
uncomfortable confrontations, aggression, usually you end up having better relationships
with your colleagues as well, but it s very unlikely you ll achieve success in your life.
And if you are in leadership capacity, or working in operations management, project
management, or god forbid in management consulting, you ll fail at your job miserably. Like in
this case for example, the question comes from a McKinsey consultant. It s very difficult
for us consultants. Because, in consulting we don t have authority. Fine the CEO hired
us to solve a particular problem, but that doesn t necessarily mean that we have the
full support from the team. Right? We have no authority. We have no power. We are consultants.
I mean what are you going to do, go complain to the CEO that his team is not supporting
you. I mean your job is done. You do that you ll find yourself fired from the project.
Not by the client, but by the partner in charge of that account. You are going to be kicked
out. So, it s a very difficult job. You ll have to get what you need
without any power.
So, pay attention to it. Tone down your agreeableness and pay attention to the techniques we discussed
and you ll be fine. Just continue practicing in every one of your interactions. Fire your
bullets strategically, and one by one, and eventually you ll see some big changes.
This topic is done.

For...in and Math.abs in JavaScript. Codingame: Temperatures - Solved - Duration: 4:22.Programming shouldn't be boring.
Let's solve a Codingame's puzzle today.
[Music playing]
Hi!
Let's play and solve a puzzle titled "Temperatures" by Codingame.
I'm Anatol and you are watching the Good Parts of the FrontEnd development.
[Music playing]
The story tells: It's freezing cold out there!
Will you be able to find the temperature closest to zero in a set of temperatures readings?
This puzzle teaches you how to compare a list of values and an Absolute value.
To win this game my program must analyze records of temperatures to find the closest to zero.
Let's start with one trick.
I have a string of values, separated by whitespaces.
I create an array from this string using a "split" operator.
I omit brackets and use the backtick (a template literal) instead.
This function makes code a bit shorter.
Let's use a "for...in" for looping.
The "for...in" statement iterates over the enumerable properties of an object.
For each distinct property, statements can be executed.
Be aware, that for...in should not be used to iterate over an Array where the index order
is important.
Array indexes are enumerable properties with integer names and there is no guarantee that
for...in will return the indexes in any particular order.
But this isn't our case.
Besides of that I use Math method "absolute".
It returns an absolute value derived from a given variable or function.
And one more useful shorthand: Logical OR.
This means: assign to a variable "a" the value of variable "b".
When variable "b" is undefined, use a value of a variable "c".
Let's dive into the code.
[Music playing]
Read the length of the list to analyze
Read the record (list of temperature measurements), split it into an array
and convert the string values to numbers
Now for each element check: If the absolute value of current element is
lower than saved minimum value
(or they are equal, but current element is above zero)
Then set a new minimum value
Print out the minimum value. Print zero, if minimum is undefined.
Now run all the tests
They all are green!

Rhea's Super Cool Vidblog: Intro - Duration: 5:06.is this on- is this working?
i can't-
Asmun, Asmun can you help? this isn't-
that... seems to be-
okay this is...
all right wait
ok all right I think
I think it's working, thanks!
huh
ok I think I think this is working
all right, well uh, hi?
uh so my name is Rhea and my friend Asmun was doing this experiment
and made up these record-y things and
she thought I'd think it was really cool and, to be fair it is really cool
if it... works, lemme just play that back
ok it totally works, anyway
so my name is Rhea, it is seventeen years post-Collision
I live in the Mages Guild
in Ellesmere and
oh well I guess my name is Rhea
but my full name is
Nveryioth Invara Dulaith na Lowen na Green
but it's... easier to call me Rhea
that's only half the names, you don't want to know
and like I said, my friend Asmun has been coming up
with this.... cool technology
I don't know if it's spellwork or, anyway
but she thought that I might be able to
I don't know
ok truthfully I think that she's just trying to keep me entertained
because she knows I'm bored out of my fucking mind
but... it might be cool
um so like I said, I live in the Mages Guild
it means I get to see a lot of cool stuff
that happens around here, but
it's also frustrating because they don't really let me do anything
I keep petitioning Mom to let me in
like, like as an actual student instead of just, you know
giving me more books, and giving me more studies
and, I don't know, she doesn't even have time anyway
to really do, like, my education anymore
so I just keep asking if I can like
get entered in, but
I don't know
too young
she's really busy these days
because her and the Green, uh
ended up just, doing another "child experiment", as they call it
I mean, I was their first, and
I think I've been pretty successful
uh, this time they're doing it a different way
I don't really want to know the details
but there's a "clutch" now
so now there are like four tiny... eggs that they're cooing over
and might be doing something interesting-
I don't know, I didn't come from an egg
I don't
I'll pay attention when they actually
end up, uh
talking or... flying?
I don't know, we'll see
But they don't have any time, so
I kind of just wander around, and
entertain myself
Luckily Asmun let's me kick around with her a lot, too
She's doing so much cool stuff
I mean, ok she doesn't let me, like,
mess around with the really dangerous stuff
but she does, you know, she tries to include me
um, and occasionally other people come by
Gwinna's been by a couple of times this past year
which has been interesting because she always has cool stories
she really, like, gets out there, you know
like, she isn't just, stuck behind walls like I am, but,
she's really, like, travelling along all the other planes
and like, meeting people and like
I don't even know what
she can do all sorts of cool stuff
um, and, you know a couple other people are around
I get to see Dyr sometimes
I mean, you know, The Emporer and Empress
they're so fancy
and, you know, hang out with their kids sometimes
mostly they're in the Capital and, we don't see them much in Ellesmere
to be honest, I think they might think I'm a bad influence
which, you know, I don't understand, I think I'm a great influence
I showed them so many cool tricks last time they came
they were so impressive and the learned... so fast
I hope they come visit again soon
um, other than that, you know
just, living
trying to find entertainment where I can
but, maybe this will be cool
maybe I will get to record some stuff
and show...
I don't know who I'd show it to but
you know, I like having it for myself
and,
I don't know, I'll probably forget about it in like a week but,
whatever we'll see
anyway, good-bye
