-Before we start the interview, i want to talk
about a little controversy here.
-Yeah. Yeah, let's get it out. Yeah.
-Because this is involving --
First of all, this is not too shabby.
I love this. [ Cheers and applause ]
-Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
-But this is involving "People's" Sexiest Man Alive.
-Yeah. They're going strong. 2017.
These are the men of "This is Us."
[ Audience ohs ]
Now don't get me wrong,
those are three sexy men. -Yes.
-And on top of that, incredible actors,
and on top of that, incredible guys.
But 2018 is going to be my year.
-Yes! [ Audience cheers ]
This is gonna be your year!
-I've been working out. I've been working out.
-Listen to this, "People" Magazine.
-Trying to keep up. -You're working out.
-My trainer has been having me work my arms so hard,
last week, I couldn't straighten my arms for three days.
-Really? -Yeah, yeah.
-They were just that worked out. -That worked out.
So tight. Biceps so tight.
-Yeah. Just doing dumbbells? What are you doing?
-Yeah, mostly dumbbells.
-Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
-A lot of this motion. -Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's what it's all about.
-This is the motion I've been told that works the best.
-Sure, I'm assuming. Yeah, I guess so. Yeah.
-I went to Chicago last week
with my wife and her best friend, who are here,
and we did some aqua Pilates.
I'll do anything. I will do anything.
-Yeah, you're doing anything. What is aqua Pilates?
-Well, it's like Pilates in the water.
-Okay, thank you. Yeah, I was guessing that.
-Had these big, foam weights and some ankle floaties,
and I think, "This can't be that hard.
It's, you know, it's three of us and our friend's husband and --
four 80-year-olds."
[ Laughter ]
Who are blowing us out of the water.
Blowing us out of the -- I think this is no big deal,
and I get home,
one little cough as I'm falling asleep that night.
[ Coughs ]
I pulled a muscle...
-[ Laughs ]
-...where I didn't know I had muscles, Jimmy.
-Oh, really? -Yeah, it's in my upper --
-Okay. -Yeah, it's above my --
-I heard your wife go, "Yeah." -Yeah.
-It's like if this is North Carolina, South Carolina,
Georgia, Florida?
-Okay, all right.
-I pulled a muscle in my Georgia.
-Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, I understand, all right.
That's painful. That is painful.
-And so every time I sneeze or laugh or lean back too far,
it's like a lightning bolt.
My wife thinks it's hysterical.
[ Laughs, groans ]
-Yeah.
Well, you can lean forward if you want to
or do whatever you feel comfortable --
-I'm okay, I feel good today.
-I think you're great on the show, obviously.
The show gets great reviews. [ Cheers and applause ]
-Thank you very much. Thank you.
-You're so -- You're a great actor,
but you're also very, very funny,
and you throw some good jokes in there, as well.
It's good writing.
Obviously, we love the writing on the show,
the directing.
But this one, I don't know,
I heard this thing that you always try to sneak in
a special word or a phrase. -Yeah.
-And you tried it, it has never worked.
-I'm really trying to work the title of the show
into the show.
-Explain how you do this again. So you try to say, "This is us."
-I try to say, "This is us."
I try to get -- the best -- the closest I've ever gotten
was Kevin and Toby riding in a taxi,
and they're pulling up to a building.
And just every new take, I'd be like, "You know what?
Right here's fine. This is us."
[ Laughter ]
-That almost made it in?
-Or, "Actually, this is us right here.
"This is good. This is good."
This is good. We're gonna -- This is us right here.
-Yeah, that's -- -That's a sneaky one.
-They caught it. -They did, yeah.
-You know, work it into things like, "Listen, Kate,
I know that this is hard, and I know that it's --
I know that this is hard,
and I know that this is difficult,
but [Sighs] this is us.
[ Laughter ]
-Congrats on this big episode. This is the wedding.
[ Cheers and applause ] -Thank you so much. Yeah.
-Beautiful, funny, touching,
and is this anything like your real wedding in real life?
-No, at my real wedding,
I wore traditional Celtic garb, a kilt.
-Did you? -I did.
Certainly, certainly did. -You certainly did.
-I mean, look at me.
-I love it. Yeah. Why not? Have fun, man.
-At this wedding -- at Kate and Toby's wedding,
I had food poisoning.
-You had to act through that?
-Yeah, there was some sweating
and a lot of this type of breathing where you're like...
[ Inhales sharply ]
[ Sighs ] [ Laughter ]
-A couple of the [Inhales sharply]
Yeah.
-[ Exhales slowly ] -Yeah.
Also in the episode, we got to see a little,
no spoilers, but maybe what's going to happen, maybe.
-Yeah! I mean -- -I just want to know --
-You're gonna meet Toby's parents.
-Oh, I love Toby's parents!
-Yeah, played by Dan Lauria and Wendie Malick.
-Wendie Malick and -- Dude, Dan Lauria, "Wonder Years."
-Yeah, so now, Fred Savage and I have something in common.
[ Cheers and applause ]
-Did you know them before this? -I knew Dan before.
Dan and I did a play called "Lombardi" on Broadway,
which is the job that brought me to New York.
-Wow. -And I met Wendie through him,
and they are the loveliest of people.
-That's so fun. -Yeah.
-Can you tell us anything that's gonna happen
in the future between Kate and Toby?
-Well, I mean, you know...
there will be ups, there will be downs.
[ Laughter ] All --
All you need to know...
is that this is us.
[ Cheers and applause ]
-I want to show everyone a clip
from tonight's season finale.
Here are Chris Sullivan and Chrissy Metz
in "This is Us."
Take a look at this.
-Oh look. It's a used bow tie.
-Oh, not just any used bow tie. This was worn by Leslie Nielsen
in "Naked Gun 33 1/3: Final Insult," so...
-Shut your freaking face.
-[ Chuckles ] -Leslie Nielsen wore this?
-Yeah.
I just wanted to thank you.
You've gone out of your way to make this my dream wedding.
You know, just one beautiful day at my favorite place,
and I know that my choices are kind of weird.
You know, it's not normal
to have my dad's urn next to our guest book.
-It's a fun twist on the sign-in station.
-Okay, and I have his Daytona Beach t-shirt
as my something old.
It's weird. -Listen.
If my boo comes with baggage,
I'm paying the handling fee.
-Mm. I love your airline metaphors.
-Well, that's good, 'cause I'm cleared for take-off.
-Oh! -I told you.
-Yes! I won! -Ah, damn it!
-Yeah!
Chris Sullivan, everybody! [ Cheers and applause ]
Season three of "This is Us"
returns to NBC in the fall.
What a great season. -Thank you so much.
Congratulations. I'll see you in "People" magazine.
