Sharmila Tagore Inspired Dual Winged Tip Eyeliner | Glamrs Classics With Pallavi Symons - Duration: 6:43.

There's eyeliners and then there is Sharmila Tagore.

She is one of the most imitated eyeliner looks

in the history of Indian cinema

and I'm going to try my best and do it on Jeanne,

just for you here, at Glamrs.com

Hi, I'm Pallavi Symons, your makeup expert at Glamrs.com.

Sharmila Tagore, as we know her,

was one of the best things about the 60s.

And amazing things about those times were using

matte shadows, matte textures.

I'm just going to show you on Jeanne today,

how you can get that look.

I've already prepped and primed and

she's ready with foundation and concealer.

As you can see, I've just penciled in

her eyebrows quite strongly.

It was very typical of the sixties to

kind of do very strong eyebrows and

strong eyes.

I'm going to start with

a Faces Solid Brown eye pencil.

The best way to find your crease

and try and make a shape is

to keep your eyes open straight up.

This is what she used to do.

Just, very lightly line

the crease

and pick it up.

Make sure, you don't make a very solid line

because it's very hard to blend in.

Really soft like that and then

use an eyeshadow brush,

a flat one ideally,

and just softly blend that.

What you're just doing here is,

giving a cream base to a solid brown shadow

over it.

To go over that, I'm using a

FES 244, which is a Faces eyeshadow in a matte brown.

It's a perfect brown

because it's slightly reddish and not grey.

Now, I'm just going to go over that line

and blend softly into the corner.

So, the corner is not very stark.

If you notice, I'm already picking up the shape

because this will give you a nice guideline

as to how you can put your liner.

Now, using a rounded brush,

just blend over the crease a little bit.

So, it softens the line.

And now I'm going in with a Faces Eyeshadow.

It's slightly shimmery.

Now, I'm just placing it,

in the gap that I've left right here.

Just kind of packing it on.

Most of the colours they used back then

were really pale.

They were like icy pinks, icy blues, icy beiges.

Matte shadows also work very very well

in a look like this.

Now, using the brown shadow that you have from earlier,

just blend together.

Now, once that's done,

I'm going to just do the liner.

Now, I'm going to start with the white

because the eyes are quite pulled out.

So, I'm going to draw the white

and then border the white with the black.

Open.

This was one of her famous tricks

to widen her eyes.

And if you notice, I'll be working the white

slightly under here.

So, when I draw the black line,

her eye will appear longer than it really is.

I'm just working a bit of the white

even into her lash line.

For the black eyeliner, I'm going to use

Maybelline's Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in Black.

I'm going to make a very thin liner to begin with

and then work the shape.

Now, just where your white eyeliner ends,

try and make a very thin

but kind of a straight line.

What this does is, it'll open up her eye.

You need a very very steady hand for this.

Also, you need to go really close to the lash line.

Then, give it a good, quite a dramatic pull.

And now I'm just going to do a upper liner as well

and then give it a good twist up.

Now here, I want the pull to go

kind of like a curl.

So I'm going to start with the last lash

as my guideline

and then just pick the liner up

quite dramatically.

And work till where you've softened the brown,

so when she opens her eyes,

it looks like it's a part of the eyeshadow.

I'm making a strong 'V' here.

Now, I'm going to round off the shape

over her eyeball just a little bit.

Now, I'm just going to go back over the

lower line and make it dark.

Now I'm just going to use a curler

and a mascara and fake lashes.

Now, be very careful not to get any of it on the white.

So, very carefully, put it on,

on the upper and lower lashes.

I'm starting with upper lashes.

I'm lifting the corners,

as you can see very intentionally

and pushing the lashes towards the wing.

And, when you're doing the lower lashes

be very careful not to

get any of it on the white.

Now, once this is done

I'm just going to do fake lashes as well.

Now, I'll just wait for the white

of the glue to disappear.

In the meantime, while that's happening,

I'm just going to continue with the blush.

Just simply going to dust on a little bit

right here, on the apple of the cheek.

Not much contouring there.

To finish off, I'm just choosing a lovely matte.

It's a Revlon matte lipstick.

It's called Mauve It Over.

No lip liner, none of that.

And again, going back to a very matte, very pasty

kind of texture.

And there's our very own Sharmila Tagore.

How to Tell a Story in English - Duration: 17:44.

Hi, I'm Gina.

Welcome to Oxford Online English!

In this lesson, you can learn how to tell a story in English.

Stories are powerful.

When you meet someone new, go to a job interview or take a speaking exam like IELTS, you need

to tell stories, whether you realise that's what you're doing or not.

Becoming a better storyteller will make you a more convincing speaker.

People are attracted to good stories—it's a fundamental part of being human.

Learning how to tell better stories can help you become a more effective English speaker,

and a better communicator generally.

In this class, you'll learn how to build a story, step by step.

You'll see three different stories, and you'll see how you can use the same simple

ideas in almost any story.

If you want to read the stories before the lesson, make sure you're watching this on

our website: Oxford Online English dot com.

If you're watching on YouTube, you can find a link in the video description.

There, you can read the three stories in full.

We want you to take part in this lesson.

Think of a story you want to tell.

As you go through the lesson, you'll hear our stories, but you should also be building

your own story.

So, think of something funny, scary, interesting or weird that happened to you.

Do you have an idea for a story?

Then let's begin!

A clear story needs to start with some background.

Think about basic wh- questions: who, when, where, what?

Start your story with one sentence which gives some of this information.

For example:

It was summer, and I went with some friends to a beach in Crimea which you could only

get to by boat.

I was travelling in Kyrgyzstan, and I decided to go hiking in the mountains.

At university, I shared a flat with three other guys.

Keep it simple at the beginning: who, when, where, what?

Next, add one or two more sentences to give more background details.

You need a balance here: you want to give enough background details to make your story

feel real, but you also need to get to the heart of your story quickly.

People will lose interest if you don't get to the point.

Let's see how you can do this.

Look at our first example:

It was summer, and I went with some friends to a beach in Crimea which you could only

get to by boat.

Think: if you heard this, what questions could you ask to get more details?

You might ask things like:

Who were your friends?

Why did you go to this beach?

What was the place like?

Were there any other people there?

Answering these questions gives you details you can add after your opening sentence.

For example:

People had been going there for years, and there were benches and tables, places to camp,

fire places and so on.

It was kind of a hippy place, with everyone walking around naked and doing whatever they

felt like.

Here, we're focusing on one thing—the place—because it's the most interesting

and unusual detail.

For a different story, you might focus on different details:

We were all good friends, but like lots of guys in that situation, we played a lot of pranks on each other.

In this story, the people are more important, so you would give more details about them.

Okay: your turn!

You need to start your story.

Make an opening sentence.

Remember: who, when, where, what?

Then, add 1-2 sentences giving more background details.

Focus on the most important elements in your story.

Pause the video and do it now!

Write it down if you want.

What's next?

Big question: what makes a story a story?

If I tell you that I went to the shop to buy some bread, and then I came home and ate the

bread, is that a story?

Not really.

If it is, it's not a good one.

So, think about it: what makes a story a story?

A story needs two things.

One: there needs to be a goal.

The person or people in the story should want something.

Two: there needs to be tension.

That means the goal can't be too easy to reach.

In this section, let's look at putting a goal in your story.

Here's the question: what do the people in your story want?

They must want something.

This is the heart of your story.

If the people in your story don't want anything, then you don't have a story.

Let's do an example together: On the last day, we had to catch a train in

the evening.

Pause the video if you need extra time to read.

Here we have a simple goal: we needed to catch our train.

Let's do one more: To reach Issyk-Kul lake, which was the end

of my journey, I had to cross a mountain pass, almost 4,000m high.

What's the goal here?

The goal is getting across the mountain pass to the lake.

The goal in your story can be something big or something small.

You can see in these two examples that we have something very easy and simple—catching

a train—and something bigger and more difficult—crossing a 4,000-metre mountain pass on foot.

What about your story?

What's the goal?

What do the people in your story want?

Keep this simple.

Just add one sentence to your story, setting a goal for you or the other people in your

story.

Pause the video, write your sentence, then we'll move on to the next part.

Ready?

Ok, remember that we said there are two things every story needs.

What's the second?

Every story needs tension.

What does that mean?

Simply, it means that your goal shouldn't be too easy to reach.

Here's a story:

There was a monster which liked to eat people.

A hero killed the monster.

Everyone was safe.

The end.

Good story?

Obviously not!

If the goal in your story is too easy, then your story will be very short and boring.

There needs to be tension.

As they listen to you, people should be thinking: what's going to happen next?

Will everything be ok?

How are they going to get out of this problem?

The goal needs to be difficult.

There need to be problems.

People need to doubt whether you're going to succeed or fail.

This is tension.

For example: On the third day, I had to cross a mountain

pass, almost 4,000m high.

It was so hard, because the air is thin up there and I was carrying a very heavy pack.

It seemed to take forever, but finally I got close to the top… and then a storm boiled

over the ridge and landed right on my head.

There was lightning all around me, even below me!

The noise was unbelievable.

First, you hear how difficult it was, even before the storm hit.

Then, the storm arrives.

What's going to happen?

Did I make it over the pass?

Did I get hurt?

Let's look at one more example: One weekend, I was going home to visit my

parents.

I said bye to my flatmates, and told them not to do anything to my room.

"Don't worry, we won't.

Have a good weekend," they said.

I knew they were going to do something, but I couldn't believe what they actually did:

This is a very different kind of story, but the structure is the same.

I have a goal, which is to visit my parents and come back without my friends doing anything

to my room.

You also have some tension.

You hear sentences like this:

I told them not to do anything to my room.

I knew they were going to do something.

When you hear these, you know they're going to do something to my room, but you don't

know what.

This is called foreshadowing.

You know something bad is going to happen, but you aren't sure exactly what.

That's where the tension comes from.

What did they actually do?

Hopefully, you want to know what happened next.

Now, think about your story.

How can you add some tension?

One way is to add problems or difficulties: things that get between you and your goal.

Another way is to use foreshadowing, like our story above.

Pause the video and add tension to your story.

This is an important part of your story, so think about it carefully.

Aim to write 2-3 sentences, and start again when you're done.

Okay?

Now, you're ready to think about the end of your story.

To finish your story, you need to resolve the tension.

At this point, the people listening to your story should want to know what comes next.

You've created some tension.

They aren't sure what's going to happen, but they want to know.

So, finishing your story is simple: explain what happened in the end, and whether you

(or whoever) reached your goal or not.

Let's finish the three stories you've seen in this lesson:

Remember that you can pause if you need more time to read or review the story.

Let's read the end together.

We loaded our stuff onto a kayak and swam almost a kilometre around the cliffs.

A naked hippy paddled the kayak, which was piled high with our things and looked like

it could sink at any minute.

We made it to land, and after several hours of hitchhiking and walking, we caught our

train.

It was stressful at the time, but looking back now it makes a good story!

You can see that the ending does two things.

In this story, we have tension: there's a mine in the harbour and we can't leave

by boat.

How did we solve it?

By swimming for a kilometre, with a naked hippy transporting our stuff in an overloaded

kayak.

Secondly, the ending explains whether we reached our goal or not.

In this case, happily, we caught the train!

What about our second story?

I forgot how tired I was and ran down the slopes to get to safety.

I stayed the night lower down and tried again the next day.

I made it over the pass, but it was a very frightening experience.

Again, the ending resolves the tension—I ran below the storm and tried again the next

day—and also explains whether I reached my goal or not.

Finally, what did happen to my room at university?

They made my room into a jungle!

I'm not kidding: there were flowers, plants, three whole trees, jungle animals made from

paper, and a 'sounds of the forest' mix playing on my stereo.

It took me three hours to clean up, and also I have hay fever—an allergy to pollen—so

I was sneezing and blowing my nose the whole time.

For my flatmates, that just made it funnier…

It's the same pattern: we resolve the tension by answering the question: what did my flatmates

do to my room?

We also find out whether I reached my goal or not (I didn't).

Now you've seen the three stories; can you see what each one has right at the end?

Each story ends with a retrospective comment.

Retrospective means 'looking back'.

A retrospective comment tells people how you feel now about the story, or how other people

felt.

For example:

It was stressful at the time, but looking back now it makes a good story!

It was a very frightening experience.

For my flatmates, that just made it funnier…

You don't have to put a retrospective comment at the end of your story, but it's a good

way to finish.

Most of all, a retrospective comment sounds like an ending.

That's useful, especially if you're speaking, because it shows your listener that you've

finished speaking.

Now, you need to finish your story.

Pause the video and write an ending.

Remember that you need to do two things: resolve the tension, and explain whether or not you

reached your goals.

Let's review: to tell a good story, you need to:

- Set the scene and give some background information.

- Establish a goal for the person or people in your story.

- Add some tension, so that people aren't sure what will happen in the end.

- Finish the story and add a retrospective comment.

Of course, there are other things which are important in a story.

Adding interesting details and descriptions can make your story more lifelike.

Adding jokes and humour can improve many stories.

Giving some background on the people and their personalities can bring the people in your

stories to life.

But, nothing is more important than structure, and that's what you've seen in this lesson.

A story without good structure isn't really a story.

Get the structure right first.

Maybe you're thinking, "I don't have the vocabulary to tell stories like that."

Not true: I've heard very powerful stories from students who spoke very basic English.

Vocabulary doesn't make a good story.

Structure and emotion make a good story.

Focus on structure and practise what you've learned in this lesson.

You can tell great stories in English, too!

Do you have a story you'd like to share?

Please post it in the comments.

CC: TELEMUNDO NETWORK

Who ordered you to kill Sofia?

Sofia? The only Sofia I know

is my cousin in Nogales.

Pretty, by the way.

-I can introduce you two. -You're so funny.

Let's see if you keep cracking jokes with your friends in jail.

You're an Interpol agent. You can't arrest a common thief.

This will be an honest-to-God arrest by an American citizen

who's worried about his community.

Open the door.

Open the door!

You have the right to remain silent

because everything you say will be used against you...

after you wake up.

Oh, sweetie!

Please don't cry anymore. I'll look after you.

Everything will be fine.

Are you going to send me to my dad?

Do you want to live with him?

Are you sure, honey?

You don't want to live with him and your brother?

I want to live with my brother, but not my father.

He's a very bad man.

Please don't send me to his house, Eliza.

I'm begging you.

There, there.

You said Eliza had died in the fire.

We were wrong. She's alive.

She's in Los Angeles and Sofia's daughter is with her.

Oh!

This is bad.

Very, very bad.

It's not that bad, sir.

I already took the necessary precautions.

That's the least of our troubles right now.

What do you mean?

that Sofia asked to speak to an FBI agent.

What are you going to do to keep her from talking to them?

If my name comes up during that interview,

I'm doomed.

And you're dead.

Who is Sofia Villavicencio?

In 1998, Sofia was crowned Miss Mexico.

We all remember this day

because the then attorney general, Ernesto Martinez,

in a gallant gesture proposed to his now wife

during the coronation ceremony.

The beauty queen gave up her crown

so their fairytale story could begin.

Or maybe it was a horror story. We don't really know.

What we do know is that Ms. Villavicencio,

who's always touted herself as an exemplary mother,

took advantage of her husband's popularity

to forge connections in the underworld.

Today, Sofia is involved in a scandal

that links her to a ring of traffickers of young girls.

Her shameful actions have outraged all Mexicans.

And the images are heartbreaking.

This brings us to the following question:

How much did Governor Martinez know

about Sofia Villavicencio's connection

to that terrible ring of human traffickers?

Sofia...

I miss you so much, baby.

You lied to me too, you know?

With that guy.

You left me for him?

I'm going to forgive you...

because my love for you... is above all that.

I'm going to forgive you.

What should I do?

What should I do?

What should I do?

I can't find Marquez anywhere.

I've been calling him all day. He doesn't pick up the phone.

He didn't show up to work.

Nobody knows anything about him.

What happened with that guy? Did you get him to talk?

What?

No way! They cannot do that!

That guy tried to kill Sofia. I saw him!

Yeah.

You're the only one who saw him.

His lawyer proved he was in San Diego having some tests done.

That's a lie! And you know it's a lie!

What about last night?

That same guy was trying to break into a house

to abduct a girl. How do you explain that to me?

He had a gun and a blade.

He has a license for the gun. The blade is a work tool.

He's a fishmonger.

He said he noticed the picklock and wanted to warn the owners.

Is this a joke? You can't let him go!

No...

Come here.

You gotta relax, okay?

We're unable to press any charges.

You have to understand.

We're talking about the same guy who tried to kill us.

He tried to kill us!

Yes, I know, but we can't prove it, Joel!

We know these people's records are kept clean.

His file is clean.

Furthermore, this is a job for the local police.

We're outside our jurisdiction.

We are technically outside our jurisdiction.

Have a nice day, agent!

Wait!

-This can't be happening! -Control your friend.

You should be grateful we're not pressing charges!

On what grounds?

Joel!

-Don't you see what's happening? -Relax!

That guy is the attorney that's representing Sofia!

That attorney represents everybody

-in the Mexican consulate. -Don't be so naïve, Patrick!

Come on! Open your eyes!

Don't you see what's happening here?

Really? Don't you see it?

Ernesto Martinez sent him to protect his wife

and to protect the lapdog he sent to kill his wife.

That's a contradiction, Joel.

Maybe Sofia is telling the truth...

and this is all a set up.

Patrick, you saw the files.

You saw my sister's computer. You saw the files.

Sofia is guilty and she has to pay.

Calm down, alright?

Let's see what she has to say to the FBI.

Maybe we'll understand a little bit more.

Did they at least agree to meet with her?

They did.

Today.

I got you permission to be present during the interview.

Come with me.

Why?

What's going on?

Hello, Sofia. How are you?

We have nothing to say to each other.

I think we do.

Why don't we talk about your daughter?

Alondra.

How about the pretty house in Los Angeles

where she and your friend Eliza are staying?

Well? Are you ready to negotiate?

-Hey. -What's up?

-I thought I'd check up on you. -We're good.

I'm getting ready to go to work.

I dropped Karina and Tomas off

-at school. -And Alondra?

She's coming with me.

-Coffee? -Sure, why not?

Did you think over what we talked about yesterday?

Yes, Andres.

I don't know what'll happen to Sofia.

God willing she'll prove her innocence

and come back to us.

And if she doesn't?

If she doesn't, Alondra will be my child.

I won't let that man take her.

I'll protect her from him as if she were my own.

Alondra's staying in this house.

She also lives with a very pretty friend.

You know, I know some...

No, there's no point in lying.

I know some pigs who'd love to be with skinny girls like them.

Girls like them are worth...

If you lay a hand on them, I'll destroy you!

You don't get it!

I'm the puppet master.

The odds are in my favor. You have nothing.

I can use the information I have on you all.

And with one phone call Alondra and her friend will end up

in the darkest corner of Shanghai.

They'll be gone before you're done talking.

Understood?

What do you want me to do?

See?

Asking questions is a good way of finding answers.

This is what I want.

What's this?

That's what you're going to tell the police.

You're going to memorize it.

Understand it. Let it become your mantra.

Then get rid of the paper.

You want me to take the fall?

This is your fault.

Putin's hit list: Dead Russian was 'number one target' in UK as tensions with Moscow SOAR

A RUSSIAN businessman found dead at his London

home headed a "hit list" of 22 UK-based exiles, the Daily Express can reveal.

Nikolai Glushkov was the "number one" target over his alleged involvement in a fraud

linked to the airline Aeroflot.

There were fears last night that Vladimir Putin could target the remaining 21 business

people, described by the Kremlin as "fugitives of justice", who now live in Britain.

The "hit list" was published by the Russian embassy in London.

Russian prosecutors had sent a formal request to Britain for Mr Glushkov to be arrested

and extradited in January 2015.

But lawyers advising the then home secretary Theresa May concluded the businessman had

no case to answer and the extradition demand was dismissed.

On Monday Mr Glushkov, 69, was found dead by his daughter Natalia at his rented home

in New Malden, Surrey.

He reportedly had "strangulation marks" on his neck and Scotland Yard's counterterrorism

command has launched an inquiry.

The mystery deepened yesterday as officers in forensic suits and masks began digging

up the businessman's back garden.

A neighbour described how Mr Glushkov was recently visited by two "suspicious" men

– one in a red Ferrari and another in a yellow Lamborghini.

He died a week after Russian assassins tried to murder former spy Sergei Skripal and his

daughter Yulia in a nerve gas attack in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Details of the list emerged as president Putin warned in a new documentary that he can "never

forgive betrayal".

The Russian president, expected to be re-elected on Sunday, once insisted that "traitors

always end in a bad way".

Mr Glushkov was a close associate of the billionaire Boris Berezovsky, who was discovered dead

at his home in Sunninghill, Berkshire, in 2013 with a scarf around his neck.

Mr Berezovsky's death is one of 14 now being reexamined by police and MI5 in the wake of

the double murder attempt in Salisbury.

The list features 19 men and three women who were accused of crimes, including fraud and

money laundering, after settling in Britain.

Russia formally requested the extradition of all 22 between 2007 and 2016.

But 14 requests were turned down by Mrs May and two others were rejected by Labour's

Charles Clarke and Jacqui Smith when they were home secretary.

Six other extradition cases were thrown out by the courts.

One London-based Russia watcher said yesterday: "Given the events of recent days, you have

to ask if this amounts to Putin's hit list."

The names include Andrey Borodin – number three on the list – who was linked to an

alleged large-scale bank fraud.

He left Russia in 2011 and later bought Britain's most expensive home – the £140million Park

Place Estate at Henley-on-Thames, Berkshire.

The list, which was published last year, had been accompanied by a diatribe against Britain

headed: "Why are fugitives from justice welcome in the UK?"

It went on to say: "It never fails to amaze us that the Russian citizens who fled to the

UK as fugitives, while here become British subjects.

"Harbouring Russian fugitives does not do the British Government credit in the eyes

of Russian public opinion and the international community."
