LEAKAGE BLOCKING THE LAW OF ATTRACTION FROM WORKING (Powerful Technique) - Duration: 10:36.

The attractive power desire force we

have discussed the necessity of getting

rid of fear that your desire may have

full strength with which to work

supposing that you've mastered this part

of the task or at least started on the

road to mastery I will now call your

attention to another important branch of

the subject I allude to the subject of

mental leaks no I don't mean the leakage

arising from your failure to keep your

own secrets that is also important but

forms another story the leakage I am now

referring to is in that occasion by the

habit of having attention attracted to

and distracted by every passing fancy in

order to attain a thing it is necessary

that the mind should fall in love with

it and be conscious of its existence

almost to the exclusion of everything

else you must get in love with the thing

you wish to attain just as much as you

would if you were to make the girl or

man you wished to marry I do not mean

that you should become a monomaniac upon

the subject and should lose all interest

in everything else in the world that

won't do for the mind must have

recreation and change but I do mean that

you must be so set upon the desired

thing that all else will seem of

secondary importance a man in love may

be pleasant to everyone else and they go

through the duties and pleasures of life

with good spirit but underneath it all

he is humming to himself just one girl

and every one of his actions is bent

toward getting that girl and making a

comfortable home for her do you see what

I mean he must get in love with the

thing you want and you must get in love

with it in earnest

none of this latter-day flirting on

today and off tomorrow sort of love but

the good old-fashioned kind that used to

make it impossible for a young man to

get to sleep unless he took a walk

around his best girl's house just to be

sure it was still there

that's the real kind and the man a

woman in search of success must make of

that desired thing his ruling passion he

must keep his mind on the main chance

success is jealous that's why we speak

of her as feminine she demands a man's

whole affection and if he begins

flirting with other fair charmers she

soon turns her back upon him if a man

allows his strong interest in the main

chance to be sidetracked he will be the

loser mental force operates best when it

is concentrated he must give to the

desired thing your best and the most

earnest thought just as the man who was

thoroughly in love will think out plans

and schemes whereby he may please the

fair one so will a man who is in love

with his work or business give it his

best thought and the result will be that

a hundred and one plans will come into

his field of consciousness many of which

are very important the mind works on the

subconscious plane remember and almost

always along the lines of the ruling

passion or desire it will fix up things

and patch together plans and schemes and

when you need them the most

it will pop them into your consciousness

and you'll feel like hoorah-ing just as if

you had received some valuable aid from

outside but if you scatter your thought

force the subconscious mind will not

know just how to please you and the

result is that you're apt to be put off

from this source of Aid and assistance

beside this you will miss the powerful

result of concentrated thought in the

conscious working out of the details of

your plans and then again the man whose

mind is full of a dozen interests fails

to exert the attracting power that is

manifested by the man of one ruling

passion and he fails to draw to him

persons things and results that will aid

in working out of his plans and will

also fail to place himself in the

current of Attraction whereby he's

brought into contact with those who will

be glad to help him because of

harmonious interests I have noticed in

my own affairs that when I would allow

myself to be sidetracked by anything outside of

my regular line of work it would only be

a short time before my receipts dropped

off and my business showed signs of a

lack of vitality now many say that this

was because I had left undone some

things that I would have done if my mind

had been centered on the business this

is true but I have noticed like results

in cases where there was nothing to be done

cases in which the seed was sown and the

crop was awaited and in just such cases

as soon as I directed my thought to the

matter the seed began to sprout I do not

mean that I had to send out great mental

waves with the idea of affecting people

not a bit of it I simply began to

realize what a good thing I had and how

much people wanted it and how glad they

would be to know of it and all that sort

of thing and lo my thoughts seemed to

vitalize the work and the seed began to

sprout this is no mere fancy for I've

experienced it on several occasions I've

spoken to many others on the subject and

I find that our experiences tally

perfectly so don't get into the habit of

permitting these mental leaks keep your

desire fresh and active and let it get

in its work without interference from

conflicting desires keep in love with

the thing you wish to attain feed your

fancy with it see it is accomplished

already but don't lose your interest

keep your eye on the main chance and

keep your one ruling passions strong and

vigorous don't be a mental polygamist

one mental love is all that a man needs

that is one at a time some scientists

have claimed that something that might

as well be called love is at the bottom

of the whole of life they claim that

love of the plant for water causes the

send forth its roots until the loved

thing is found they say that the love of

the flower for the Sun causes it to grow

away from the dark places so that it may

receive the light the so called chemical

affinities are really a form of love and

desire is a manifestation of this

universal life love so I'm not using a

mere figure of speech when I tell you

that you must love the thing

wish to attain nothing but intense love

will enable you to surmount the many

obstacles placed in your path nothing

but that love will enable you to bear

the burdens of the task the more desire

you have for a thing the more you love

it and the more you love it the greater

will be the attractive force exerted

towards its attainment both within

yourself and outside of you so love but

one thing at a time don't be a mental Mormon

chapter 14 the great dynamic forces

you have noticed the difference

between the successful and strong men in

any walk of life and the unsuccessful

weak men around them you are conscious

of the widely differing characteristics

of the two classes but somehow find it

difficult to express just in what the

difference lies let us take a look at

the matter Merton said the longer I live

the more certain I am that the great

difference between men the feeble and

the powerful the great and the

insignificant is energy and invincible

determination a purpose once fixed and

then death or victory that quality will

do anything that can be done in this

world and no talents no circumstances no

opportunities will make a two-legged

creature a man without it I do not see

how the idea could be more clearly

expressed than Burton has spoken he has

put his finger right in the center of

the subject his eye has seen into the

heart of it energy and invincible

determination these two things will slip

away mighty barriers and will surmount

the greatest obstacles and yet they must

be used together energy without

determination will go to waste

lots of men have plenty of energy

therefore to overflowing with it and yes

they lack concentration they lack the

concentrated force that enables him to

bring their power to bear upon the right

spot energy is not nearly so rare a

thing as many imagine it to be I can

look around me at any time and pick out

a number of people I know who are full

of energy many of them energy plus

and yet somehow they do not seem to make

any headway they are wasting their

energy all the time now they are filling

with this thing now meddling with that

now take up some trifling thing of no

real interest or importance and waste

enough energy and nervous force to carry

them through a hard day's work and yet

when they are through nothing has been

accomplished others who have plenty of

energy failed and directed by the power

of the will toward the desired end

invisible determination those are the

words do they not thrill you with their

power if you have something to do get to

work and do it marshal your energy and

then guide and direct it by your will

the star upon it that invincible

determination and you will do the thing

everyone has within him a giant will but

the majority of us are too lazy to use

it we cannot get ourselves nerved up to

the point at which we can say truthfully

I will if we can but pluck up our

courage to that point and will then pin

it in place so that it will not slip

back we will be able to call into play

that wonderful power the human will man

as a rule has but the faintest

conception of the power of the will but

those who were studied along the occult

teachings know that the will is one of

the great dynamic forces of the universe

and if harnessed and directed properly

it is capable of accomplishing almost

miraculous things

What You Need To Know Before Drinking Another Dr Pepper - Duration: 4:49.

We will probably never know the secret recipe of the the oldest major soft drink in the

United States, but Dr Pepper has been around since 1885, and in all that time you can bet

there are some secrets of the brand that haven't been divulged.

This is the untold truth of Dr Pepper.

"Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?"

Secret formula

Created by Texas pharmacist Charles Alderton in 1885, Dr Pepper gets its unique taste from

a secret blend of 23 flavors.

Just what those flavors are, however, nobody knows — and the folks that make Dr Pepper

aren't saying.

According to rumor, only three people alive know the formula, which has been split into

two separate ingredient listings, which are kept under lock and key at different banks.

So even if you stole one list, you would only get half the recipe.

We do know one thing that isn't in Dr Pepper: Prune juice.

Since the 1930s, rumors have swirled that Dr Pepper contains prune juice, but the manufacturer

has gone on the record denying it.

The sanctity of the Dr Pepper brand was called into question in 2009, when an old ledger

from the pharmacy Alderton worked out was found with a recipe for something called Dr

Peppers Pepsin Bitters.

However, the company again denied that the recipe was for Dr Pepper, stating that if

you made it, the resulting beverage wouldn't taste anything like their fabled soft drink.

Better luck next time, thirsty treasure hunters!

Gimme a Waco

When Alderton created the drink in a Waco, Texas drugstore he didn't give it a name,

prompting customers to simply order a "Waco."

As the soda gained popularity, store owner Wade Morrison realized it needed a proper

name, and dubbed it Dr Pepper.

Though rumors claim he named it after a long lost love, according to the Dr Pepper Museum

website, the true origin of the name is unknown.

What is known is that Dr Pepper lost its punctuation in the '50s, due to the logo's illegibility.

The period caused consumers to read the name as "DriPepper," and the company removed it

to lessen the confusion.

Hot Dr Pepper?

Hot soda sounds pretty gross, but nevertheless, Hot Dr Pepper has been around since the 1960s,

created in an attempt to keep soda sales strong during the colder months.

So what the heck is it?

According to the company's website,

"Hot Dr Pepper was developed many years ago as a refreshing winter drink.

Heat Dr Pepper in a saucepan to 180 degrees, place a thin slice of lemon in the bottom

of a coffee mug or insulated cup and pour the heated Dr Pepper over the lemon."

Go ahead and try it if you want, just... don't blame us.

The fountain of youth

Conventional wisdom says that soft drinks are bad for you.

And conventional wisdom is absolutely right.

However, you are not Elizabeth Sullivan, who passed away in 2017 at the incredible age

of 106.

On her 104th birthday, she revealed to CNN the secret to her longevity: a ton of Dr Pepper

"This stuff is good and it's got sugar in it.

And three, two doctors have told me that if I drink it, I will die.

But they died first!"

To mark the occasion, the soft drink company sent Sullivan a cake shaped like — what

else? — a can of Dr Pepper.

"Not for women"

Ironically, it seems Sullivan probably shouldn't have been drinking Dr Pepper at all, because

in 2011, the company unveiled an ad campaign instructing viewers that their low calorie

Dr Pepper Ten was not intended for women.

"Dr Pepper 10 - it's not for women!"

While a Dr Pepper vice president insisted that "women get the joke," it's hard to argue

that the campaign wasn't sexist, and it raised the ire of both women and across media.

For example, Jill Pantozzi of The Mary Sue wrote,

"Next time Dr Pepper, just put genitals on all your beverages, that way we'll know which

ones are ok to drink."

"Catchphrase!"

They made Christians mad

In 2012, a Facebook ad illustrating Dr Pepper's supposed effect on evolution riled a group

of Christians as it challenged their belief in creationism.

While obviously a joke, some didn't find it very funny, with comments to the Facebook

post including responses such as,

"I ain't no freaking chimp.

No more Dr Pepper for my household"

And

"I love Dr Pepper but hate this photo.

Forget evolution […] Jesus all the way!"

Evangelicals were also upset back in 2001.

In an attempt to honor the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Dr Pepper

issued special patriotic themed cans which included phrases from the Pledge of Allegiance.

The problem, according to those who were upset, was the words used were, "One nation… indivisible"

rather than the full phrase, "One nation under God, indivisible."

Dr Pepper was accused of being

"too politically correct"

and angry consumers called for a boycott.

But the company explained it was purely a logistical issue.

"Due to space limitations on the can, only a few of the 31 words from the Pledge of Allegiance

could be used….

More than 90 percent were not included."

They refused to pull cans from shelves, saying that it was a

"resoundingly patriotic, bipartisan message that we are a united nation."

Why is inequality rising? | CNBC Explains - Duration: 6:00.

Imagine the global population was made up of just 100 people, and this pie represents global income.

The richest 1% of people - or just one person - gets one-fifth of this pie.

But for the poorest half of the population - or 50 people - they have to share just half of that.

That's what global inequality looks like today.

And the difference between those slices of pie is only getting bigger.

Global income has grown over the past four decades,

but so has income inequality in nearly every region of the world.

Huge growth in Asia, particularly China and India,

has meant that the bottom 50 percent's income gained 12% of that overall growth.

But that's nothing compared to the top 1%, which captured 27% of income growth.

Those moves at the very top and bottom have left the global middle class squeezed.

The poorest 90% of the U.S. and EU's population falls within this bracket.

It's this rising inequality that exploded into the global Occupy Wall Street movement.

And if you think the financial crisis would have helped level the playing field, think again.

The one percent's share has steadily increased since 2008.

And the source of wealth growth?

It's heavily tilted towards the United States and the rise of financial assets.

That's partly because banks started taking less risks after the financial crisis,

meaning they've become less willing to lend to the poor and middle class.

But the gap between the rich and poor differs depending on where you're looking.

In Europe, for example, the top 10% captures less than 40% of income.

In the Middle East, they capture more than 60%. So what's causing inequality?

An obvious contributor is China and Russia's move away from communism,

but that's just a tiny portion of the explanation.

Fast technological changes have led to a greater demand for skilled labor,

while automation has eliminated many jobs.

That has led to a growing earnings gap between high and low-skilled workers.

Until recently, trade was seen as a largely positive global force.

But now it's become the bogeyman for rising inequality.

Some people in wealthier countries say they're losing out

because good jobs are being outsourced to workers in developing countries.

80% of Americans think sending jobs overseas harms America's workers.

But it's not that simple.

There's evidence that free trade has increased and decreased wages at the same time.

Take Apple for example.

It's created two million jobs in the U.S. but it's also created more than twice that in China.

In 2014, inequality came to the forefront of global discussion.

That's because of French economist Thomas Piketty,

who published a book called Capital in the Twenty-First Century.

Despite being 700 pages long, it became an international bestseller.

Piketty drew a distinction between wealth and income.

His argument was that wealth, essentially a person's net worth, grows faster than income.

That means the rich get richer, because their wealth grows faster from capital they own,

like stocks and houses.

This type of capital appreciates in value faster than wage growth, which salaried workers depend on.

So what can we do about it?

The IMF, Thomas Piketty and 100 other researchers have come up with some suggestions.

But you're not going to like the first one.

Taxes.

The United States pays much less tax when compared to Western European countries,

and it has an impact on inequality.

The top one percent's share of income in the U.S. has risen dramatically,

while that inequality is much more moderate in Western Europe.

Economists say this is largely because of taxes.

While it's commonly believed that taxes discourage people from working and investing more,

good tax policies help governments to redistribute wealth for a more equal society.

On top of that, the IMF also found that higher income taxes for the rich do not hurt growth.

But that's if people actually pay them.

At least 10% of global GDP is being held in tax havens.

In six European countries alone, €350 billion is estimated to be hidden away.

Shareholders benefit most from tax havens.

But governments and societies suffer from the huge loss of revenue,

which could be invested in public services and infrastructure.

That's bad news for another potential solution - better access to quality education and job opportunities.

Finally, the IMF found that rich countries with less unionisation are associated with

an increase in the share of income of the top 10%.

In Denmark, domestic policies led to fast food workers making $20 an hour,

that's twice of what they make in the United States.

Despite having no minimum wage, unions dominate in the small country.

That's guaranteed them a living wage and benefits their American counterparts could only dream of.

Some say that inequality incentivises innovation and productivity.

But inequality causes political and economic instability, and the IMF says it hurts economic growth.

If we want to make this pie bigger overall, its slices are going to have to get more equal first.

Hey everyone it's Xin En. Thanks for watching.

How to beat jet lag and master your body clock | Horizon - BBC - Duration: 2:18.

Overnight, to save energy, our temperature and blood pressure are low

which makes us sluggish.

This means early morning isn't the best time for exercise or complicated mental activities.

Mornings are a great time to eat a big meal, as our stomach's are more active

and our metabolism more efficient.

Late morning is the best time to do things that require lots of brain power

like writing and planning.

For physical exercise, it's late afternoon.

Athletes should be faster and stronger than in the morning.

Big evening meals aren't a great idea, as our stomach's are slowing down for the night.

While we sleep, our bodies repair any damage.

Sticking to a schedule based around the timing of your shift is the way to go.

But here's the important bit: You need to be doing this even on your days off.

It's chopping and changing routines that really messes with your clock and your health.

Til also suggests night shift workers use eye masks or blackout blinds to block out

the light when they're trying to sleep, and wear blue light-blocking glasses on their

way home in the morning light, as long as they don't drive.

If you've got jet lag, you can't shift your clock by more than one hour a day,

but you can use light and the absence of light to shift it as fast as possible

in the right direction.

Fly east, and on arrival you should catch strong daylight in the morning.

This will shift your clock earlier, and closer to the local time.

Go west, it's the opposite.

On arrival, get light in the evening to shift your clock later.

Fly more than a few hours, and the timings can vary but apps and websites will help you

calculate the best time to catch the light for wherever you're going to.

Lauren (from behind camera): Chicago! Steph: What up!

Olivia: I need coffee Lauren: and food! Olivia: I need coffee and a donut.

[acoustic background music]

I need to remember that the little girl that danced around her room dodging fire

is the fire now. Her gryffindor spirit has only grown stronger and the way she

views the world is powerful and strong and maybe not always right but always

well-intentioned and above all, good. There's a fight in her, in me, that I can

give back to the world and I intend to.

(live music) We are, we are, we are magic.

so our Chicago show was really fun, we got in the car and we've been driving

for a little bit. We are headed to one of our favorite places ever and I can not wait.

[acoustic background music]

We are at my favorite restaurant in the United States, my favorite place to go on

tour, the Firefly Grill. I have not been here in many years and I'm very excited

to be back. I cannot wait! I'm so glad we made this part of our trip because I've

been missing this place so much.

[acoustic background music]

Steph: Let's do porch! Olivia: Yeah! Lauren: Cool!

Lauren: What are you thinking aside from two sides of corn?

Steph: I think I might do a filet also!

[acoustic background music]

Lauren: they're so pretty! Olivia: look at this one with the dots!

Steph: Oh my God, there's more coming! Olivia: Look at that!!

Waitress: Ladies, your dinner just got to the table.

Lauren: Oh awesome, thank you! I'm so excited.

Olivia: Oh my God, they're crispy.

HOW TO CHOOSE VISION BOARD IMAGES THAT COME TRUE // MY TRUE STORY! - Duration: 6:13.

Hey guys welcome back to Searching For Better. So today I'm talking again about

vision boards and if you haven't seen my first video you can find it up here it's

how to make a digital vision board. If you like the content

that I have today don't forget to click the subscribe button and also the little

bell just to make sure that you stay up-to-date every time a new video comes out.

So the reason I'm going through vision boards and how to choose images

for vision boards is all from my personal experience. I've had some really

interesting experiences of choosing images and they've all come true but

whether or not I've been happy about them is a different story.

So I've learnt a lot about how to choose the right images for your vision board

to make sure that they're things that actually end up making you happy and

things and actually getting other things that you want. So today's video all about

how to choose the right or the best images for your vision board.

My first tip when I think about choosing images for my vision board is to make sure that

I choose images of things based on how I want to feel and not just

what I want. When we do our vision boards we tend to think a lot of end material goals.

I read in a book once a really good tip. I think it was Chris Guillebeau

I can't remember which book of his it was but it was about goals

and how the reason that we go or aim for goals is to get a certain

feeling at the end of it. So instead of speaking about goals first or I guess

the material ends of things the point was to think about how you want to feel

first and then really think about what end goals and material things would

actually get that feeling for you. A really good example. Learn from my

mistakes of thinking about material things first and then thinking about

feelings is something that I put up on my vision board. I had in my vision board,

which is really freaky story, that I wanted to travel business class and go

to Italy for like an extended stay and stay with family because I thought I'd really love it.

So I did do that and it turns out that I

really missed my family at home and something I learnt was how much I

valued the company that I have here and also how grateful I was to leave in a city

like Melbourne where we just have so much at our fingertips. Such great food,

places to go. It's a really social city so I definitely learnt that when I put that

on my vision board and it came true even though it came true I really I kind

of just what about the material in a bit like living in Italy and sort of you

know the views and everything I didn't really think about the fact that I was

moving away from family. I was living in a town that was a lot smaller than where

I'm from and you know I think the culture was just different and I know

there was a lot of things that I did think about when really what I was

looking for was I think just a bit of sense of freedom and something that I

had to learn I had to find within myself. So that's a really good example of what

happens when we only think about the end goal and not the feelings before it.

So when it comes to thinking about how you want to feel I think when you think

about your goals really put your feelings first and then think about the

material things later. So that's my first tip for the vision board. So when

you're thinking about the material or end goal, think about the feelings first.

How do you want to feel and what end goals can get you to feel that way.

So that's definitely my first tip. Feelings over thinking of material goals first.

Once we had a think about the feelings and then the end goals that can help get you there

or the material things that can help get you there. My next tip would actually be

to make sure that you choose specific images. So what another thing again that I've learnt

is that when you choose images it's best to try and be specific in the sense

that like if you want to work from home it's not enough just to choose a

computer because I think that when you're making a vision board you have to

be specific to a certain degree about what you want and how you want to sort

of receive it to a degree. So something that I would suggest if you want to work

from home or something that I did personally. I knew that I wanted to work

from home so I found two photos. I found a photo of a lady, her back, working on a

laptop and then I found another photo which I really love even to this day.

(I'll try and find that and if I do it'll be up here)of a lady

working on a laptop and she was really happy and she looked like she was loving

your work and that's the thing I didn't want to just work at home I wanted to

love what I do I really wanted to be president I wanted to really enjoy what

I did so I made sure to find the image that not only shows I'm working but

someone loving what they did. Because I guess it's easy for us to find something to do

isn't it but it's a lot, not tougher, but we have to be a little more mindful of

finding the things that we really love to do as well. And the last step is

obviously to choose some really great places to find those images. So I found

when my favorite websites to find visual images,

aside from Pinterest, is actually a website called Unsplash. I really love it.

It's got really, really good life style type images and there's so many there.

So Unsplash is a great place to start.

Otherwise another great website is called Pexels. But what I'll do is I'll

put together a really quick PDF of all the like top three to five places that I

like to find vision board images and yeah and then I'll just

that'll be down below as a download. So make sure to head down below and check

out the download on places to find your best vision board images.

So if you like this video I've also got like I said before another one on how to make

digital vision boards so I'll just link that above in the little card thing.

So make sure to have a look at that one as well if you're not really a crafty type

of person or yeah you have don't have the time maybe to see it make a vision board

A digital vision board is definitely another great simple 5 minute, 10 minute

way to make your vision board. So yeah I hope you are I hope you enjoyed it.

I am a poor wayfaring stranger

travelin' through this world of woe

But there's no sickness,

toil or danger

In that bright land to which I go

I'm goin' there to see my Father

I'm goin' there no more to roam

I am goin' on to Glory

I am goin', goin' home

I know dark clouds

will gather 'round me

I know my way is rough and steep

But endless days

are there before me

Where God's redeemed forever sing

I'm goin' there to see my Father

I'm goin' there no more to roam

I am goin' on to Glory

I am goin', goin' home

I want to wear a crown of Glory

When I am home in that fair land

I will shout Salvation's story

Singing in that blood washed band

I'm goin' there to see my Savior

I'm goin' there no more to roam

I am goin' on to Glory

I am goin', goin' home

First Man's Controversial Ending Explained - Duration: 5:16.

First Man just might be the one of the most controversial and politically fueled movies

of 2018, and not by design.

Directed by Damien Chazelle, the guy who did Whiplash and La La Land, Chazelle wasn't

set out to make some sort of a huge political statement about the United States, and I'm

sure he never intended to create this controversy about First Man, which has to deal with its

ending, the way it handles the moon landing, and the American Flag.

But after viewing the film, Chazelle's ending totally makes sense because of the unique

and unusual way he chose to tell this story about one humanity's most incredible achievements.

Let's break this down.

First Man is based on a book of the same name about Neil Armstrong, who, alongside Buzz

Aldrin, was one of the first astronauts to land on the moon.

And no, I'm not going to talk about the moon landing conspiracy, sorry.

Let's just say this did actually happen.

First Man is sort of a, basically, autobiographical film about Neil Armstrong.

It starts with him discovering his love for aircraft and flying and his harsh and difficulty

journey making it to NASA and eventually taking on the moon landing mission.

Ryan Gosling plays Neil and Claire Foy plays his wife, Janet Armstrong.

First Man goes through plenty of details about what it actually took to successfully accomplish

the moon landing mission.

As many people don't know, plenty of lives were lost, a lot of politics were involved,

and let's not forget the enormous amount of money it actually took to make this thing

happen.

There's a reason why we haven't been to the moon since the 1960s, it's an incredibly

difficult task to accomplish requiring a huge amount of effort and focus from the U.S. government.

A large focus of First Man also deals with Neil's family life with Janet.

We get plenty of scenes featuring the couple and the many problems they dealt with, like

losing plenty of people close to them, as I've mentioned.

Claire Foy gets most of the more dramatic and emotional scenes and lines while Ryan

Gosling plays Neil as a more stoic figure, which was a bit confusing to me because it

made that much harder to connect to Neil and his mission.

But either way, we still get a real sense of their failing marriage.

But here's the real jarring thing with First Man, and something I think will divide plenty

of people, and it's the fact that it doesn't feel epic in scale or grand in any way, for

a movie about the first moon landing, it's very, very grounded and personal.

And this filmmaking choice directly has to do with that controversial ending.

You see, Chazelle took this story and said ok, we've seen dozens of space movies, real

or fake, like Apollo 13 and Interstellar, and what do they all have in common.

And it's the fact that they're all so epic in scale.

They have large shots, swooping takes, long scenes of large environments, we really get

a huge scale.

With First Man, however, it's all close-ups.

Chazelle chooses to show off some of the biggest moments in the movie with a first-person point

of view through the eyes of Neil, or close-ups rather than the wide open takes/shots we would

expect from such a film.

Like when the rocket does finally take off, for example, we don't get the money shot,

instead it's yet another close up, with the scene taking place inside the rocket with

the astronauts.

This filmmaking choice was done because Chazelle wanted to really zero in on Neil's story

and focus on his personal journey and the sacrifices he's made.

First Man is not really about the moon landing itself, or NASA, or what this space mission

meant for the U.S., cold war, or the world.

First Man is really about what this journey meant for Neil, and Neil alone.

So when we get to the ending, we don't see Neil and Buzz planting the American Flag on

the moon, and this might seem insane or ridiculous to many people.

How can a movie about the moon landing not feature the most iconic shot/image from that,

right?

We do see the American flag in the background, but yet again we're focused on Neil instead.

We see what he's seeing and feeling at this very moment.

He's not concerned about the flag, and neither is the film, and Chazelle doesn't want us

to either.

That's the whole point.

A quote directly from Chazelle states, "I wanted the primary focus in that scene to

be on Neil's solitary moments on the moon — his point of view as he first exited the

LEM, his time spent at Little West Crater, the memories that may have crossed his mind

during his lunar EVA."

He goes on to say, "My hope is that by digging under the surface and humanising the icon,

we can better understand just how difficult, audacious and heroic this moment really was."

In Chazelle's view, he wanted that intimate take on an extraordinary achievement.

A risky choice that should be expected from a man who decided to make a musical in 2016.

And so, those offended by the ending or reading about the negative reactions about it from

people, should instead sit down and watch the entire film and examine and think about

the filmmaking choices made in First Man.

Because, as I've said, this story is really only about Neil and not anything else.
