Youtube daily report Oct 18 2017

For a comedy, this show has sure had its fair share of drama.

Producers of the CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait shocked fans in August 2017 when they announced

that one of the show's core cast members, Erinn Hayes, had been let go ahead of the

show's second season.

Not only that, but her character Donna — the Gable family matriarch — would be unceremoniously

killed off.

Plus, her death, and the events leading up to it, wouldn't even be depicted on TV — at

least not right away — and would be covered by a between-seasons time jump.

Many fans suspected that Hayes' termination was simply a messy way to shoehorn in guest

star Leah Remini as a series regular.

It's no secret that the fan favorite previously worked opposite star Kevin James for nine

seasons on The King of Queens.

However, James has now debunked that rumor, claiming that the show needed a major shake-up

like this in order to survive ...

"But the water's choppy!"

"Oh is it choppy?"

"It's choppier than that!"

"Yeah, ooh ..."

James told the New York Daily News, "I get that people are like 'Whoa, why would you

do this?'

But it really felt like a thing like this was needed for this show to drive forward.

Now, I have to deal with my daughter in a different way, and she's gonna go to college,

or one's getting married, or the holidays.

And it deals with things in a different, weightier way."

According to James, his character was originally supposed to be a single dad.

But producers decided to round out the cast with a standard sitcom family before production

began.

Sticking to those well-trodden tropes that come with the sitcom territory apparently

caused a major lull in the show's trajectory, according to its star.

"The plot of the show didn't have enough drive.

If we got through a second season, I wouldn't see us getting through a third one.

We were literally just running out of ideas."

Executive producer Rob Long shared similar sentiments to TV Line in an August 2017 interview.

Long said the goal was to give Kevin's character, quote, "a real drive" and "a real predicament."

Long added that the decision to kill Donna was also meant to honor her, and the actress

who played her: " … out of respect for the character of Donna — and certainly the way

that Erinn Hayes portrayed her — it seemed like the only right and fair way to treat

her character."

Since Donna's unexpected death, Kevin Can Wait has mostly danced around her absence,

and — as of the making of this video — has yet to fully explain how the beloved character

met her end.

But it's clear that Remini's guest stint on the series influenced casting in season two.

After all, she's now a full-timer, playing Vanessa, Kevin's former police partner.

And James clearly loves having the opportunity to once again share the small screen with

his one-time TV wife.

James gushed to the New York Daily News, "When she came on … it was just the greatest.

Fans loved it, everybody on the crew loved it.

We just knew right away, so we thought, 'How can we get her here full-time to be on the

show?'"

Guess the writers at Kevin Can Wait figured that one out ...

"Was that so difficult?

I don't think it was."

Windows Through a Sega Game Gear | Nostalgia Nerd - Duration: 3:55.

Daddy?....

Yes?....

What are you doing?

Using Windows on a Game Gear....

Why are you doing that?

I don't know!...

(TEARS) YOU'RE AN IDIOT!

(MORE TEARS)

Yes.

He's not wrong, and indeed I'm not wrong.

Because here is Windows 10 running through a Sega Game Gear.

Look here's Youtube with Mike Jeavons, and here's me Googling my own channel, although

you can't see a damn thing on the Game Gear screen, especially not this one.

And here of course is Doom, the game which has transcended the decades.

But how can all this run on a humble 8 bit Game Gear.... oh, oh I see.

Well, I feel a little cheated now, but then I did say it was running through a Game Gear,

rather than on a Game Gear.

Yes, using some cunning and jiggery pokery, it's possible to use your Game Gear as a television

screen for well, pretty much anything you like.

Let me run you through the setup.

The Sega Game Gear TV Tuner appeared in the UK during 1992, with it's sole premise to

turn your Game Gear into a portable television, albeit with the blurry Game Gear screen.

You can actually plug an AV signal directly into the unit, or even use an external antenna,

but for the purpose of this video, I'm using the bog standard aerial to pick up good old

UHF.

If you're in North America, you'd use VHF instead, activated by a simple switch on the

top.

Since 2012, the UK has been devoid of an analog TV signal, much like most of the world, so

then how do we allow the Game Gear to pickup an image?

Let me introduce to my Frankenstein of wires which made this possible.

Although it looks like the Game Gear is playing cuphead here, all it's doing is acting as

an extended monitor for my Windows desktop.

To do that, first I connected a VGA output to this HD Video Converter.

This coverts the signal to HDMI which can then be passed through this HDMI2AV box, which

converts the signal yet again to composite.

This composite signal is then sent into my trusty Samsung VCR which itself contains a

UHF modulator, capable of turning this signal into something that the Game Gear TV tuner

can pick up.

From here, the process is then to feed this signal into a signal amplifier (you know the

kind you use to boost your TV's aerial reception) and then into a portable television aerial

which can broadcast the signal.

This effectively creates a mini broadcast station.

By duplicating a monitor display to the third monitor, hey presto, you can run anything

you want through the Game Gear.

Although why you'd want to for any practical sense beats me.

I really only did this because it can be done, and it was fun to setup, so why not?

OF course you're not just limited to using your PC.

You could easily send your Mega Drive's TV output through the same setup and finally

experience real Sonic the Hedgehog on your Game Gear.

And really that's it.

So I'll leave you with some more Cuphead and bid you good night.

Have a great evening!

Hackers & Cyber Attacks: Crash Course Computer Science #32 - Duration: 11:53.

Hi, I'm Carrie Anne, and welcome to CrashCourse Computer Science!

Last episode, we talked about the basics of computer security, principles and techniques

used to keep computer systems safe and sound.

But, despite our best efforts, the news is full of stories of individuals, companies

and governments getting cyberattacked by hackers, people who, with their technical knowledge,

break into computer systems.

Not all hackers are bad though.

There are hackers who hunt for bugs and try to close security holes in software to make

systems safer and more resilient.

They're often hired by companies and governments to perform security evaluations.

These hackers are called White Hats, they're the good guys.

On the flip side, there are Black Hats, malicious hackers with intentions to steal, exploit

and sell computer vulnerabilities and data.

Hackers' motivations also differ wildly.

Some hack for amusement and curiosity, while cybercriminals hack most often for monetary

gain.

And then there are hacktivists, who use their skills to promote a social or political goal.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Basically, the stereotypical view of a hacker as some unpopular kid sitting in a dark room

full of discarded pizza boxes probably better describes John Green in college than it does hackers.

Today, we're not going to teach you how to be a hacker.

Instead, we'll discuss some classic examples of how hackers break into computer systems

to give you an idea of how it's done.

INTRO

The most common way hackers get into computer systems isn't by hacking at all; it's

by tricking users into letting them in.

This is called social engineering, where a person is manipulated into divulging confidential

information, or configuring a computer system so that it permits entry by attackers.

The most common type of attack is phishing, which you most often encounter as an email

asking you to login to an account on a website, say your bank.

You'll be asked to click a link in the email, which takes you to a site that looks legit

to the casual observer, but is really an evil clone.

When you enter your username and password, that information goes straight to the hackers,

who then can login to the real website as you.

Bad news!

Even with a 1/10th of one percent success rate, a million phishing emails might yield

a thousand compromised accounts.

Another social engineering attack is pretexting, where attackers call up, let's say a company,

and then confidently pretend to be from their IT department.

Often attackers will call a first number, and then ask to be transferred to a second,

so that the phone number appears to be internal to the company.

Then, the attacker can instruct an unwitting user to configure their computer in a compromising

way, or get them to reveal confidential details, like passwords or network configurations.

Sorry, one sec…

Oh. Hey, it's Susan from It. We're having some network issues down here, can you go ahead and check a setting for me?"

... and it begins.

Attackers can be very convincing, especially with a little bit of research beforehand to

find things like key employees' names.

It might take ten phone calls to find an victim, but you only need one to get in.

Emails are also a common delivery mechanism for trojan horses, programs that masquerade

as harmless attachments, like a photo or invoice, but actually contain malicious software, called malware.

Malware can take many forms.

Some might steal your data, like your banking credentials.

Others might encrypt your files and demand a ransom, what's known as ransomware.

If they can't run malware or get a user to let them in, attackers have to force their

way in through other means.

One method, which we briefly discussed last episode, is to brute force a password, try

every combination of password until you gain entry.

Most modern systems defend against this type of attack by having you wait incrementally

longer periods of time following each failed attempt, or even lock you out entirely after

a certain number of tries.

One recent hack to get around this is called NAND Mirroring, where if you have physical

access to the computer, you can attach wires to the device's memory chip and make a perfect

copy of its contents.

With this setup, you can try a series of passwords, until the device starts making you wait.

When this happens, you just reflash the memory with the original copy you made, essentially

resetting it, allowing you to try more passwords immediately, with no waiting.

This technique was shown to be successful on an iPhone 5C, but many newer devices include

mechanisms to thwart this type of attack.

If you don't have physical access to a device, you have to find a way to hack it remotely,

like over the internet.

In general, this requires an attacker to find and take advantage of a bug in a system, and

successfully utilizing a bug to gain capabilities or access is called an exploit.

One common type of exploit is a buffer overflow.

Buffers are a general term for a block of memory reserved for storing data.

We talked about video buffers for storing pixel data in Episode 23.

As a simple example, we can imagine an operating system's login prompt, which has fields

for a username and password.

Behind the scenes, this operating system uses buffers for storing the text values that are entered.

For illustration, let's say these buffers were specified to be of size ten.

In memory, the two text buffers would look something like this:

Of course, the operating system is keeping track of a lot more than just a username and

password, so there's going to be data stored both before and after in memory.

When a user enters a username and password, the values are copied into the buffers, where

they can be verified.

A buffer overflow attack does exactly what the name suggests: overflows the buffer.

In this case, any password longer than ten characters will overwrite adjacent data in

memory.

Sometimes this will just cause a program or operating system to crash, because important

values are overwritten with gobbledygook.

Crashing a system is bad, and maybe that's all that a mischievous hacker wants to do,

be a nuisance.

But attackers can also exploit this bug more cleverly by injecting purposeful new values

into a program's memory, for example, setting an "is admin" variable to true.

With the ability to arbitrarily manipulate a program's memory, hackers can bypass things

like login prompts, and sometimes even use that program to hijack the whole system.

There are many methods to combat buffer overflow attacks.

The easiest is to always test the length of input before copying it into a buffer, called

bounds checking.

Many modern programming languages implement bounds checking automatically.

Programs can also randomize the memory location of variables, like our hypothetical "is

admin" flag, so that hackers don't know what memory location to overwrite, and are

more likely to crash the program than gain access.

Programs can also leave unused space after buffers, and keep an eye on those values to

see if they change; if they do, they know an attacker is monkeying around with memory.

These regions are called canaries, named after the small birds miners used to take underground

to warn them of dangerous conditions.

Another classic hack is code injection.

It's most commonly used to attack websites that use databases, which pretty much all

big websites do.

We won't be covering databases in this series, so here's a simple example to illustrate

this type of attack.

We'll use Structured Query Language, S-Q-L, also called sequel, a popular database API.

Let's imagine our login prompt is now running on a webpage.

When a user clicks "login", the text values are sent to a server, which executes code

that checks if that username exists, and if it does, verifies the password matches.

To do this, the server will execute code, known as a SQL query, that looks something

like this.

First, it needs to specify what data we're retrieving from the database.

In this case, we want to fetch the password.

The server also needs to specify from what place in the database to retrieve the value

from.

In this case, let's imagine all the users' data is stored in a data structure called

a table labeled "users".

Finally, the server doesn't want to get back a giant list of passwords for every user

in the database, so it specifies that it only wants data for the account whose username

equals a certain value.

That value is copied into the SQL query by the server, based on what the user typed in,

so the actual command that's sent to the SQL database would look something like this,

where username equals philbin.

Note also that SQL commands end with a semicolon.

So how does someone hack this?

By sending in a malicious username, with embedded SQL commands!

Like, we could send the server this funky username:

When the server copies this text into the SQL Query, it ends up looking like this:

As I mentioned before, semicolons are used to separate commands, so the first command

that gets executed is this: If there is a user named 'whatever', the

database will return the password.

Of course, we have no idea what 'whatever's' password is, so we'll get it wrong and the

server will reject us.

If there's no user named 'whatever', the database will return no password or provide

an error, and the server will again reject us.

Either way, we don't care, because it's the next SQL command we're interested in:

"drop table users" – a command that we injected by manipulating the username field.

This command instructs the SQL database to delete the table containing all user data.

Wiped clean!

Which would cause a lot of headaches at a place like a bank... or really anywhere.

And notice that we didn't even break into the system – it's not like we correctly

guessed a username and password.

Even with no formal access, we were able to create mayhem by exploiting a bug.

This is a very simple example of code injection, which almost all servers today have defenses

against.

With more sophisticated attacks, it's possible to add records to the database – like a

new administrator account – or even get the database to reveal data, allowing hackers

to steal things like credit card numbers, social security numbers and all sorts of nefarious

goodies.

But we're not going to teach you how to do that.

As with buffer overflows, programmers should always assume input coming from the outside

to be potentially dangerous, and examine it carefully.

Most username and password forms on the web don't let you include special symbols like

semicolons or quotes as a first level of defense.

Good servers also sanitize input by removing or modifying special characters before running

database queries.

Working exploits are often sold or shared online.

The more prevalent the bug, or the more damaging the exploit, the higher the price or prestige

it commands.

Even governments sometimes buy exploits, which allow them to compromise computers for purposes

like spying.

When a new exploitable bug is discovered that the software creators weren't aware of,

it's called a zero day vulnerability.

Black Hat Hackers rush to use the exploit for maximum benefit before white hat programmers

release a patch for the bug.

This is why it's so important to keep your computer's software up to date; a lot of

those downloads are security patches.

If bugs are left open on enough systems, it allows hackers to write a program that jump

from computer to computer automatically which are called worms.

If a hacker can take over a large number of computers, they can be used together, to form

what's called a botnet.

This can have many purposes, like sending huge volumes of spam, mining bitcoins using

other people's computing power and electricity, and launching Distributed Denial of Service

or DDoS attacks against servers.

DDoS is where all the computers in the botnet send a flood of dummy messages.

This can knock services offline, either to force owners to pay a ransom or just to be

evil.

Despite all of the hard working white hats, exploits documented online, and software engineering

best practices, cyberattacks happen on a daily basis.

They cost the global economy roughly half a trillion dollars annually, and that figure

will only increase as we become more reliant on computing systems.

This is especially worrying to governments, as infrastructure is increasingly computer-driven,

like powerplants, the electrical grid, traffic lights, water treatment plants, oil refineries,

air traffic control, and lots of other key systems.

Many experts predict that the next major war will be fought in cyberspace, where nations

are brought to their knees not by physical attack, but rather crippled economically and

infrastructurally through cyberwarfare.

There may not be any bullets fired, but the potential for lives lost is still very high...

maybe even higher than conventional warfare.

So, we should all adopt good cybersecurity practices.

And, as a community interconnected over the internet, we should ensure our computers are

secured against those who wish to use their great potential for harm.

So maybe stop ignoring that update notification?

I'll see you next week.

Ukulele Webcam Sessions (Ep.41) - Thumbs UP or Thumbs IN? - Duration: 10:30.

Hi and welcome to another episode of Webcam Sessions. This week we're going to

be talking a little bit more about some fretting habits which we actually

covered in an earlier episode, I believe it was the first, second or third episode

we did of this series, but we're going to be looking at a very specific example to

work on, essentially thumbs out or thumbs in with the fretting hand, so to start

here let's talk just a little bit about fretting an ukulele.

A lot of times when people are learning, they're taught that their thumb should

always be squared back behind the neck. If they do anything else they're wrong

and I don't think that's true. I think that there's a lot of different ways to

actually hold up the neck, and some of the the rules that go with guitar

playing that people oftentimes try to apply to the ukulele, aren't necessarily

correct for the ukulele, and the biggest thing I find with this is where the

thumb goes behind the instrument. So a lot of times what people will do is

they'll say "hey your thumb needs to be right along the back, at about a 45

degree angle and when you're playing the instrument you need to be holding up

chords with the pressure of the thumb, and the fingertips" and a lot of times

people will find that they're dropping the ukulele because of this, because it's

really difficult to hold and balance it, and make switches between chords.

What I find works really well is, some chords you need to allow the instrument

to drop into that first knuckle joint on your hand, right in here where the ball

of your index finger is, to be able to essentially support the ukulele and have

the neck still upright. So to look at a couple examples we're

going to start with just a G chord, and we're going to learn how to play a G

chord with both of these sort of techniques, so let's do a G chord how

most people think the "right way" first, so what we'll do, we'll take our thumb on

our playing hand, we'll put it on a 45 degree angle facing out towards the

headstock, then we're going to take our index finger place on the second fret of

the C string, ring finger place on the third fret of the E string, and middle

finger here on the second fret of the A. Again making sure you're getting right

up against the frets to make sure that the tone is maximized much, much cleaner

when you're not so far back, but right up to those frets and now that thumb

again we're tilting out at that angle and we've got our G chord, it's

okay if you find that your thumb wants to go the other direction and that turns

the whole hand a little bit, that's okay as long as the thumb is pushing and

pinching up against the neck, and propping up the chord you're good.

So that's a normal way of playing a G chord.

Now let's learn the other way with the thumb up instead the thumb down. What

we're going to do is take off the hand and then we're going to take that first

knuckle joint right here on the finger and we're going to set the edge of the

under part of the fretboard right in this sort of area, right on that little

ball of the knuckle. Now with your thumb, instead of trying to put it behind

what you're actually going to do is, you're going to put it a little bit on

top, so you see that it's more cupping the ukulele and less holding it, and more

just giving something to sort of grip on to, because the part that's actually

supporting the instrument is going to be right there at that knuckle joint at the

hand, and then what you'll do, you'll cross the index finger over to the

second fret of the C string, ring finger over the third fret of the E string

and middle here on the second fret of the A, and so this is playing with the

thumb up right, and you can see that looks like I'm making a thumbs up but

I can still play a G chord this way. Now you might find that that second way

is way more difficult, or you might find that the first way is way more difficult

it's one of the fascinating things about people learning the instrument. I've had

students that you know struggle with both ways depending on their background

and just what it is that's more comfortable immediately to them,

but the reason we're working on kind of both of these methods is because which

version of the G chord we pick for our thumb position is sort of determined by

what the chords are that we're playing after, or before it, and for a little bit

of an example here, we're going to practice going from a G chord to a D7

chord and we're also going to practice going from a G chord to an Am7 chord

and we can really see how each one of these techniques, can really apply to

the G chord depending where we're coming from. So let's go ahead and start with a

G to the Am7. So how do we play an Am7, well it's probably the

first chord you've ever played on the instrument,

it's all open, pretty cool right. An all open chord. Well if we fret the G chord with

our thumb behind like this right, in that sort of pinching motion and we go

from the G chord to all open, it's really tough to hold up the ukulele without

putting any fingers on the fret board to prop it up, because now this thumb has

nothing to pinch up against. Normally when we're playing a chord and

we have the thumb squared back it's pinching these two together to create

the friction needed to prop up the instrument, but as soon as we look at it

from the standpoint of this Am7 where there's nothing to prop up, the

instrument wants to fall and that's where that second form, the thumb being

up really comes into play. By having the instrument sort of rest on that knuckle

instead, playing all open is very easy, making sure that as I do this I'm not

cupping over, muting that A string, leaving it open

it's much easier to play. Now if I were to try playing a G to an Am7 and I

were to do my G with the thumb like this and I we're to do my Am7 by

taking it all off like this, I'm making extra steps that I don't

necessarily need to be making right, and so what I would try to do from this

point is play the G chord with that thumb up instead right. By playing it

with the thumb up, it's as simple as removing and placing back the fingers

you notice that the position of the thumb doesn't change between the G chord

and this Am7, which I think is really cool.

So in the event we're playing a chord like that, it makes more sense for our

thumb to be more up, however let's say that we were playing a D7 chord instead.

A D7 chord is going to be played by taking your index finger barring it

all the way across the second fret, again getting right up to the fret, sometimes

it can help to roll the finger so the nails going towards the headstock and

then inch it a little bit closer to get right across that fret wire, maximize

your sort of connection there, and then placing the middle finger on the third

fret of the A string. So that's a D7 chord which is a barre chord, can be

a little tricky, but if I were to try to play this chord with my thumb up here

like what we were just talking about, I actually can't get the break angle with

these fingers because I need the fingers to be more straight. If you look at the

index finger when the thumbs up like this, I can't get it all the way across

comfortably and so what I need to do is bring the thumb down, elongating the

finger and making it easier to fret and get that whole connection, you can see

especially down here how important it is, compared to if I'm playing like this.

So in this particular case a D7 chord is going to want the thumb to be

squared back, which means if I'm going from this D7 to the G, back and forth

instead of doing the G like this and then doing the D7 like this, and coming

back to the G like this, makes a lot more sense for my finger to essentially be

kept in position, so now if I'm going from my D7 to my G

you can see how I'm propping it all up

the knuckle joint is not holding it up because these

particular cords benefit it. Now if I were going to this G to the Am7

again I'll switch my sort of format, and sometimes we'll switch in

preparation for so let's say I'm go to the G again and then the D7, you'll notice I

put my thumb behind prior to the D7 to kind of set it up. What this is

trying to say is that we want to make sure that we're always setting ourselves

up for whatever comes next, and so sometimes that means we change what

we're currently playing or the technique that's used, to make the next technique a

little bit easier to utilize right. So thumbs up, thumbs down, both are really

good, both are really important and there are countless examples of playing that

use the thumb in different positions. To show it for more of some of

the things I play example, if I were playing something more jazzy, I'd really

have the thumb behind for most of these barre chords that are going to need the

ukulele kind of propped up right. Now you notice until I got to the very end here

with a lot of open strings I was keeping that thumb squared behind

the ukulele. But if I were playing something that's

more kind of instrumental in its feel, and what I mean by that is more like

ukulele instrumental, not so much traditional jazz, one of the original

songs I've written called Crossing Hemispheres, which if you want to check

out there's actually a link in the description below, I'm going to keep my

thumb up like this almost the whole time

and the reason is because as I'm doing these motions, I'm keeping a lot of open

strings, I'm taking the fingers off pretty consistently so by having that

thumb behind, I can hold up the instrument as I'm moving up despite not

having any frets fretted some times right so kind of cool. So let me know in

the comments which way you're more comfortable with. Do you usually have your

thumb more up or your thumb more down, and I want to know just what the

true statistics are, so please do leave a comment below. If you like this video be

sure to share it and give us a like, it helps drive traffic and

everything else, all that good stuff. So have a wonderful week and I'll see you

guys next week on another episode of Webcam Sessions.

Why We Hallucinate While Falling Asleep - Duration: 5:05.

have you ever played a video game for so long but when you finally put on the

controller and are maybe falling asleep you see images of the game flash before

your eyes this happened to me a bunch of times personally one time I had played

so much Tetris and I was writing a paper in college that I got surprised that the

words on my screen weren't falling down I was like why are they all just staying

there I was expecting them to like start as very tired these hallucinations can

be other things too like jigsaw puzzles or apple-picking and they happen in the

weird limbo between wakefulness and sleep called hypnagogia in fact lots of

strange things can happen in this state like twitching or something called

exploding head syndrome don't worry no brain bits are involved in that one but

it can still get pretty trippy scientists don't know a ton about

hypnagogia but they are learning they consider it to be an altered state of

consciousness not unlike an LSD trip the hypnagogic state only lasts about 10

minutes as you transition from being awake to being asleep although sometimes

it's called the first stage of sleep and during this period of drowsy pre slumber

you can hallucinate you might feel like you're falling flying or floating you

might hear short phrases or sounds or see anything from amorphous shapes and

colors to clear images of people now this might seem like dreaming but it's a

little different most dreams happen during rapid eye movement or REM sleep

where your brain is much more active than during the rest of your shut-eye

and dreams are usually pretty vivid you're part of some kind of action or

story like going to outer space in a hot air balloon to meet a clown that sounds

like Sir Patrick Stewart but hypnagogic states are more like watching snippets

of films in an experimental art gallery Salvador Dali even famously used

hypnagogic imagery to inform his art disrupting his naps to get inspiration

it's not always the case but the imagery can come from something mundane or

repetitive you were doing while you were awake like playing Tetris that's why

this hallucination phenomenon is sometimes called the tetris effect

scientists don't know why these hallucinations happen because not

everyone gets them and they can be a symptom of disorders like narcolepsy

which is basically extreme sleepiness but one

idea is that some parts of your brain take longer than others to fall into

sleep mode as you're drifting off your brains electrical pulses or brain waves

start to slow down they shift from moderately fast alpha waves which are

typical of being relaxed but awake to slower theta waves of early sleep to

even slower delta waves of deep sleep but the slowing down isn't even EEG

measurements of brain waves suggest that your brain puts on the brakes faster in

the front than in the back and that means that the parts of the brain in

charge of vision or balance could be active for a bit longer which might

explain why so many hypnagogic hallucinations are visual or include

weird sensations like fallen and because your frontal cortex is snoozing during

this in-between state it can't help you sort out what's going on like it

normally does one of the most frightening things that can happen

during this drowsy low is hearing a loud exploding sound like a cymbal crash or

gunshot sometimes there's also a flash of light this is called exploding head

syndrome and while it doesn't hurt it can be so scary that it wakes people up

from their half-asleep State it's not clear whether this is just a specific

type of hypnagogic hallucination or whether it's something else some

neuroscientists consider it a sleep disorder and speculated might be from

tiny seizures or sudden bursts of electrical activity in the brain

unfortunately most people who have this problem aren't as bothered by it once

they find out that it's not a sign of something more serious like brain cancer

another thing that can happen during hypnagogia is the hypnic jerk or sleep

starts despite the name it's not a hip new dance trend it's an involuntary

twitches jerks are basically just muscle contractions it's kind of like a hiccup

and they're perfectly normal most of the time neuroscientists don't

really know what causes them but they could happen because of the way your

body switches over to being asleep when you're awake you're getting lots of

signals from a part of your brainstem known as the reticular activating system

but come bedtime a cluster of cells deep in the middle of the brain starts to

block these signals and bring on sleep while this setup makes for a pretty good

transition to dreamland it's not entirely seamless so hypnic jerks could

be glitches that arise during this process the twitches might be related to

some aspect of your hypnagogic hallucinations and they could wake you

up but most the time you don't notice a thing so while this not

what a week not quite a sleep state can be pretty freaky usually it just passes

you by which is probably good because you have to go through it every single

night and not everyone wants to be as surrealist as dali thanks for watching

The Reason We Love This Lifestyle | Camper Van Life - Duration: 20:23.

I'm really excited about the RV show.

We're going to do a meet and greet Saturday and Sunday.

A lot of people have already said they are going to meet us there so I am very excited to meet some new people at the show.

Also a little bit nervous.

I have a feeling we're going to meet a lot of people at the meet and greet this weekend.

Well that's one of the reasons we love this lifestyle so much is we really enjoy meeting new people.

And we actually met some people on our way into that parking lot.

[Joe] Ok we're at the KOA.

[Kait] And our dirty windshield.

[Joe] Yep, we need to wash that thing.

[Kait] Our bug splattered windshield.

[Kait] RV Registration.

You guys hang tight.

First time at a KOA, should be fun.

Clubhouse...registration...

Ok, we're all set.

[Kait] Did we get a good spot?

Well, they are fully booked so all of the spots are pre-assigned.

It looks like we're at a good spot. We're right at the end and the woman said there is a nice little grass patch right there.

So we can face out that way and we're kind of on the edge away from everyone.

[Kait] Is it shaded?

I don't know but it looks like there are quite a few trees here.

[Kait] What do you think bud?

[Joe] He's excited.

[Kait] This place is packed.

[Kait] Oh we have shade!

Perfect.

[Kait] Are you going to back in?

Yeah, see if the cord will reach.

[Kait] Well the pedestal is on the left on this side.

Bathrooms here are really nice.

There's free breakfast in the morning.

A pool and jacuzzi that we got a key for.

And then the Fairplex RV show is right next door and there is a little path we can walk right over.

[Joe] Alright, let's put the A/C on.

[Joe] All of our sardines that we stocked up on.

A little fan to help Leo stay cool.

This works a lot better...if you put it on the outside.

Alright, now we can stay nice and cool.

After you my love. [Kait] Thank you.

[Kait] Hey Leo.

[Kait] When are we going to start our live stream?

Soon.

We have to find a good spot... [Kait] Oh look! Happier Camper is here.

[Kait] If you haven't check it out, we did a really cool walk through with Lulu.

We did. Full walk through of one of these, all the features and everything.

Check it out.

[Mark] How's it going man. Nice to meet you.

[Kait] Do you mind being in our video? Oh course not.

You guys just kind of scoping it out today?

Yeah, we just walked in.

We've had a lot of people say hello to us already. Mark, thank you for stopping us and saying hello.

[Kait] Oh, I like that display.

[Kait] That's cute.

It's so hot, look at my head.

[Kait] Oh dear!

When we come back tomorrow, I should bring a towel.

[Kait] You know what we need? What's that?

[Kait] We need that Cool Mist thing they had at Universal Studios Hollywood.

[Kait] And just have that blow the entire time.

[Kait] Oh, look at this thing. It's got the rear bath.

[Man in Background] How's it going?

Good how are you guys?

We just finished our first Facebook live, a lot of fun and if you missed it, check out this video.

[Kait] And we're live.

It's our first time being live on Facebook.

It's kind of crazy.

And we're at the RV Show, the California RV Show and...

[Kait] They made a really cool banner for us. [Joe] I know this thing is awesome.

[Kait] Come say hi, we're going to chat about van life and Joe's new book.

Yep, Take Risks.

And we've already met a lot of you at the show already so can't wait to see you guys at the meet and greet.

We're going to go around today, take a look at the rest of the show and some of that footage may or may not make it up onto YouTube.

So for any of you wondering, we have the Aktiv 2.0.

This is the 1.0 and really, the only difference is that extra foot in the back that we have.

Feel like we're right back at home.

The only difference with ours is, we don't have a microwave, we asked them to take that out.

And we have more storage in the back.

There are two cabinets here, we have three in ours.

And then there is more storage down below.

The bed is a foot wider.

[Kait] We did a full van tour, if you guys haven't checked it out you can head over to our YouTube channel.

[Kait] Where to?

I don't know.

Oh, I do want to see the E-Trek though.

[Kait] Is this all electric?

Yes.

So, induction stove...

[Kait] I'm really happy most of the RVs have their A/C on, it's really hot today. Me too!

[Kait] Is that the bathroom? The bathroom.

You know I used to thing these were really small when I first looked at them, now this feels like a luxury bath.

I have so much room in here.

Don't trip down the stairs.

[Kait] I'm going to try not to.

[Kait] Where are you headed? There's Leisure Travel.

Oh, we got stickers. If you guys come down to the show, we'll give you stickers.

Robert, wanted to let you know I finally got the book up in print version.

So for any of you who didn't want a digital version of the book, there's now a print version of Take Risks on Amazon, so check it out.

[Kait] We're live on Facebook!

Hey how's it going! The Russos are in town!

[Joe] Sir, good to see you again [Dean] Good to see you!

[Kait] How are you? I'm great, it's been a year.

[Kait] I know Welcome to Leisure Travel Vans!

[Kait] Thank you. [Joe] Anything cool this year, new?

We have a brand new twin bed model on the Ford Transit Chassis, we call it the Wonder FTB.

So it's very unique. It's a front twin bed model.

[Kait] Do you want to give us a quick tour? Sure, let's have a look at it.

So this is pretty cool, it's our newest one.

[Woman] Hi guys!

[Woman] I know who you are!

[Woman] How's your mom?

How's this for a bathroom, look at the size of this.

Thirty-five inches wide.

[Kait] How tall are you? I'm well over 6'1", 6'2" with my shoes on I can't even touch the top.

So private bathroom, private door comes across, three piece bathroom.

So we're only 24 feet, 9 inches so it's a relatively small motorhome as far as size goes but huge dry bath.

[Dean] Two burner stove.

Big, deep, stainless steel sink.

Look at this!

[Dean] Tons of storage area.

Three-way fridge, convection microwave and then look at that hanging closet.

[Kait] Oh my goodness. [Dean] It's massive.

[Kait] Joe, you could fit in there. [Joe] I could definitely fit in there.

[Dean] This table actually swivels over.

It's on a swivel base, the table.

Table top goes on top of it.

How cool is that?

[Kait] Oh nice! How nice is that?

[Dean] Of course we have the two sofas and the pull together to make into one big king bed or you can have two separate sleeping areas.

[Kait] I'm trying not to get you guys in the video. [Woman] It's ok.

[Kait] So you don't mind then. No, we don't mind.

[Joe] I like the fact that you're looking at these because of us.

How exciting, good to meet you guys here, this is cool!

I just want to show you the exterior storage, so we have storage underneath.

Truma hot water heater.

Two piece ladder.

Look at this...

Not only do you have tons of interior storage space but huge exterior storage space as well. It's hard to believe.

More storage underneath both of the twin beds on both sides.

Of course, this is the Wonder murphy bed once again on the Ford Transit Chassis.

Ready? [Kait] Yep.

Look at this.

[Joe] Awesome. [Dean] So full residential queen.

[Dean] It's residential queen so full 60x80. You can put queen sheets on it, queen comforter and you leave all the bedding on there.

[Kait] You can sit in bed and watch TV. [Joe] I love it.

[Dean] And once again it's on the new Ford Diesel chassis.

Good to see you Dean! My pleasure. Have a good show.

[Joe] Great to see you.

[Joe] Ok, where to?

Uh, lets go check out Sportsmobile.

Russos! [Kait] We're live on Facebook!

What's up! [Joe] This is your second live event. Facebook live!

How's it going? [Kait] Good, how are you!

[Kait] We want to check out this thing.

Cool, so this is our basic Metris. It's a Metris passenger van that we've put the pop-top on.

So it's more of a weekender, use it every day with all of the seating.

The seats pop out easily.

The pop-top has an upper bed for two.

The way this one sits is $49,500.

It's affordable little camper that can be pretty versatile.

So all the seats come out and you could load a bunch of stuff in there if you had to.

[Kait] Does it come with all the seats?

[Jon] It does, this is all Mercedes factory passenger van.

And then we incorporate...all the airbags are still functional,

all the air conditioning is still functional in the back. It's been crush tested and approved by Mercedes.

All the safety standards are up.

And I've got a cool one over here if you want another Metris. This one is the full Metris camper.

And this is also modular so the seats come in and out.

I'll show you a couple cabinets that remove, the rear bed removes

You could go to Home Depot and load a washer, dryer in there. [Kait laughing]

It's versatile. You can take all this stuff out. This cabinet, this cabinet all this would remove and then you have a big cargo van.

It's all due to the track system in the floor which again is all Mercedes tested/approved.

These seat fold down and then this bed will extend and then of course you have the upper bed.

And then you have, of course being the mini van everything is a bit more compact.

So you've got a little refrigerator here, 12 volt all tied into the factory Mercedes auxiliary battery.

This piece here flips over and you have a little portable stove.

And you can take it outside if you want.

[Kait] Very cool. Yeah, and your sink is here.

This piece also has a suction cup fitting so you can take it on the outside and use it as an outdoor shower.

That's pretty cool.

A little more storage around the sink and down here is the gray water tank which you can just take and remove.

[Joe] Oh, like a little cassette. A little cassette, exactly.

You can also just remove these cabinets and that rear bed and get two more seats and make this a six passenger van.

[Joe] So it's on the track system you said. Exactly, the track system is the key.

[Kait] And there's storage under the seats too?

[Jon] A little bit. There's some framing but as you guys I'm sure know you use every little inch you can find.

[laughing] [Kait] Very cool!

Yeah so these are pretty fun. We also brought three Sprinters, two with the penthouse top and one high roof with the full bathroom.

You know, more of the classic RV interior.

Then we have two classics. [Joe] Love the classics.

Yeah we've got a '66 Volkswagon and a '72 Ford.

And then we have our Ford Classic, which is actually our new model which has a fiberglass body.

[Kait] Bethany wants to know what's the lead time for a new Sportsmobile Sprinter?

A Sprinter, we're about 12-15 months.

Of course, they're all customized so it take a little bit longer.

The lead time for getting a Sprinter van is 10-12 months.

If you want four wheel drive.

Two wheel drive, it's more in the four month time frame so that can cut down lead times a little bit but you're looking at about a year.

[Kait] Do you have advice for people or things to think about if they're considering a 4x4?

Yeah, the expense isn't too much. It's $7,500 from factory on the Sprinter.

You have to ask yourself where do you want to go?

Do you ski and that sort of thing? Of course you can bring chains and deal with that but a lot of people don't want to.

It's nice having the four wheel drive and the all terrain capabilities doing dirt roads in case you encounter something.

You know it's not necessarily for a hard core off-road enthusiast.

It could just get you to the campsite you want to get to and it could be off the beaten path.

I personally couldn't do without it.

It's a little more fun. More adventourous the places you can go and we've done some stuff in Death Valley and off the beaten path and a 2wd I wouldn't trust.

A sand wash here and there and you can get into trouble.

[Kait] Thank you for the quick tour and letting us interrupt your conversation.

No, it's all good!

Enjoy the show! [Kait] Thanks Jonathan!

[Joe] Oh man, it is packed in that van.

At the Winnebago booth, FitRV.

Hi Guys! Steph and James, we finally meet them. Hello, hello!

Are you protecting the van?

Leo, I just need to close the door bud.

He can be such a stubborn Husky sometimes.

[Kait] I really enjoyed yesterday's meet and greet.

I did to. It was a lot of fun getting to meet people and for me it was really inspirational

because so many people were inspired by our videos that it was really...it was really heartfelt.

[Kait] Yeah it was nice for everyone to come out. Thank you so much.

Yes, thank you.

[Kait] Looking forward to day 2? Uh huh.

And it's a little bit cooler today so that will be good.

Leo wants to keep going.

As excited as I am for the meet and greet today, I'm more excited about the Packers game. Go Pack Go!

Kick-off is during the meet and greet.

[Joe] It will be funny if people walk over and start giving you updates on the game.

That would be kind of awesome.

Leo's private little pet walk.

I know a lot of you who are coming to the show are looking forward to meeting Leo.

It's just too hot for him.

So we're going to leave him in the van with the A/C cranked.

I think yesterday it was 95, today it's 85.

[Kait] I think it will be closer to 90. Probably.

Alright, let me get the A/C on and then we can get going.

Got my coffee!

This is my meet and greet shirt.

I love the fact that a lot of you who came by the booth yesterday

walked up to me and asked, "Joe where's you coffee?"

I reached down onto the desk and said, right here.

So the first time we came to the California RV show was in 2014. Yeah.

And that's when we were shopping for a Class A motorhome.

The one thing I notice and, holy cow, this place has gotten packed.

The line to get in is out of control. They have shuttles shuttling people from another lot.

A world of difference from when we came three years ago.

Yeah, when we came half this lot was empty, no problem parking and we came on the first weekend of the show.

It's packed already and it's not even 10:30 in the morning.

[Kait] plenty of port-a-potties.

This is the 2018 model, brand new inside, very nice.

[Kait] Look at that line.

We're in!

This way, let's look around a bit before we go to the booth.

We have some time.

[Kait] Hi! [Joe] Hello!

John and Elaine, we watch your show all the time. [Kait] Do you mind being in our video?

Yes! YouTube video all time!

[Joe] Hello, nice to meet you!

Are you guys getting a van?

Yes we are. Which one? The CS Adventurous.

Oh, very nice

[Kait] We're going to go set up, come by, say hi and grab some swag.

Nice to meet you guys.

[Kait] I love our banner!

Our banner is awesome! Big thank you to the whole Hymer/Roadtrek marketing team for putting this together for us. You guys are awesome.

I love it. We got the coozies, those are nice. But the most popular one is what Kait has on now, the Hymer glasses.

People love these things.

[Kait] We're going to Disneyland Tuesday in our van.

See all the fun places you get to go!

Good morning.

How's Leo doing outside?

He's enjoying it.

He loves hanging out outside.

I am making an Ethiopian that I picked up at Demitasse.

One of my favorite coffees.

Is that the reason we keep driving all the way back to California so you can stock up on coffee?

It really is.

And I will drive all the way back to Oregon for Thump and a few of the other coffees I had there.

Do you like my new shirt?

[Kait] I do, I'm going to have to put mine on.

Flywheel, thank you.

My voice is a little lost this morning but we really enjoyed meeting everyone and loved the stories you told as you came by.

However, tomorrow is Kait's birthday.

We're heading over to her parents house [cough] sorry...

And then we're driving over to my mother's house to drop Leo off for the day so on Tuesday we can go over to Disneyland which is where I proposed to Kait.

So I'm taking her to Disneyland for her birthday.

Off to my birthday lunch!

Kait's parents are up front right now, we're not allowed to film them.

They are here with us, do you guys want to say hi?

[Parents] Hi!

Everyone loves mom.

[Mom] I love everyone.

Hi this is Bob and this is Audrey. Hope you enjoyed this episode and if you enjoyed it click up here to watch more episodes.

And hope you're going to love it.

[Joe] Give it a thumbs up and subscribe.

And do that, give it a thumbs up and subscribe if you dig it.

[Joe] Awesome, nice meeting you guys, thank you.

Nice meeting you too, thank you.

Social Anxiety Disorder - causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, pathology - Duration: 6:17.

Say it's your first day at a new job.

Maybe you're nervous or jittery.

You want to make a good impression.

Those feelings are pretty normal, and may actually help you be more alert and careful.

But after a few weeks, once you're used to the job, and you know your coworkers, that

nervousness usually diminishes, right?

Well, for some people that initial anxiety is really high, and stays really high over

time.

For those people, the fear of being judged negatively by new people might be so daunting

that it affects their ability to do their job well.

In fact, even the idea of having to be somewhere where they may be scrutinized by others might

make them not want the job in the first place.

This describes social anxiety disorder.

It's unclear what causes social anxiety disorder, but it's thought to be a combination

of genetic and environmental factors, like having a close relative with social anxiety

disorder or being exposed to neglect or abuse.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or DSM-5, defines social anxiety

disorder as causing individuals to fear acting in a certain way that might make them get

judged, and it can cause anxiety that interferes with their normal routine as well as their

relationships.

What's more, is that the fear or anxiety is persistent, lasting for 6 or more months.

Usually social anxiety disorder causes distress for individuals in specific social situations

or circumstances.

For example, one person might get really anxious while making small talk with acquaintances,

or meeting new people.

Whereas another person might get performance anxiety, and not feel able to give a presentation,

or give a toast at a friend's wedding.

Social anxiety disorder is an egodystonic condition, meaning people who have the disorder

usually understand that their anxiety is unwarranted.

But, unfortunately, that awareness can cause more anxiety, because they'll fear others

can tell how anxious they are.

Sometimes individuals might worry that they may be having physical symptoms like trembling

or blushing that others might notice and judge them for.

Sometimes the anxiety can get so severe that it causes something called derealization,

meaning that a person might feel "spaced out" and be less able to recognize their

surroundings.

In order to reduce their social inhibitions, some people with social anxiety use drugs

and alcohol, and that can lead to dependency and addiction.

The DSM-5 states that in order to make a diagnosis of social anxiety disorder, the fear or avoidance

shouldn't be due to the effects of a medication or due to another condition.

That's important because there are key features of social anxiety disorder that overlap with

other conditions.

For example, in generalized anxiety disorder individuals have anxiety, but it's not limited

to being judged in a social context.

The anxiety is usually broader, and includes non-social concerns, like finances or physical

safety.

Another example is agoraphobia where people avoid public places, for fear of being trapped

and not being able to escape, just in case something embarrassing happens or they begin

to panic.

But in agoraphobia the fear is less about being judged and more about being trapped

in a crowd and not being able to escape.

Treatment usually involves psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of the two.

If it's psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy is recommended, since it teaches a

person new ways of thinking and behaviors to help in being around others.

Antidepressants are the most common choice of medication, specifically selective serotonin

reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs, serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors or SNRIs, as well as benzodiazepines,

and beta-blockers.

SSRI's help regulate serotonin levels in the brain, while SNRIs help regulate serotonin,

norepinephrine and dopamine, to manage anxiety.

Benzodiazepines are psychoactive drugs that have a relaxing effect.

Beta blockers can help ease the physical symptoms of performance anxiety.

Though medication can be effective in the short term, cognitive behavioral therapy has

more advantages in the long term, due to the potential of unwanted side effects.

All right, so as a quick recap, people with social anxiety disorder have heightened anxiety

about acting in a way, or showing symptoms of anxiety, that will be negatively scrutinized

by others.

Anxiety that is restricted only to performance is a specific type of social anxiety.

The anxiety is almost always present in the particular social situation and is severe

How to Library - Duration: 5:23.

I want to talk to you about a card that is really important to adulting.

It's not a credit card, it's not an ID.

In fact, you've probably had one since you were a little kid.

It's a library card.

[♪♩INTRO]

In elementary school, most of us learn that libraries are rooms filled with books, which

sounds awesome, but that's underselling it, frankly.

Librarian Julie Biando Edwards, author of Transforming Libraries, Building Communities,

says that "The public library is the Room of Requirement."

Public libraries reflect the needs and desires of the communities they serve.

They're often filled with books, but they're also meeting places for... ukulele classes

or improv groups.

They're computer labs and 3D printing workshops.

They're concert venues, movie theaters, and ballrooms.

I've played my fair share of shows at libraries.

Just like the Room of Requirement, the library is whatever a community needs it to be.

For instance, I live in a town nicknamed "the garden city" and we're surrounded by rivers,

so at our library we can checkout heirloom seeds for a garden or life jackets for kids

because those are things we need and want in our community.

No matter where you live though, the easiest way to utilize everything the library has

to offer is with a library card.

Most public libraries serve a specific area, and in the US it's frequently by county.

So when you move to a new county, you probably need a new library card.

To get one, go to the library you'll frequent most.

This could be a large central library, or it could be a smaller branch library.

All public libraries within a community are connected, so just pick the branch that's

most convenient to you.

A note here, that if you're unable to get yourself physically to a library, just call or email your local library

Some libraries have mobile branches,

some have mail services, or even home visits.

Libraries are for everyone.

If you're getting your library card at bigger library, there will probably be signs directing

you to a kiosk to put in your name and local address for your card.

If it's a smaller library, just go right up to the person at the circulation desk and

proudly tell them you would like your library card, please!

Make sure to ask about how many items you can check out, how long you can check items

out, what the late fees are, and also what else the library has to offer.

So what does the library have to offer?

Physical books, for sure, but with your library card you can also download free e-books and

audiobooks.

Some libraries even have e-readers or ipods you can check out.

And you can ask your local librarians how to download from the library website both in the library

and at home.

When it comes to libraries, we always think of books, but libraries love all media: Books,

DVDs, CDs, records, magazines, newspapers, microfilm, microfiche, mp3s, mp4s... if it

stores information, it can probably be found in a library.

For that matter, if it reads information, it can be found in a library.

Many libraries check out computers and DVD players if there's a need for those things

in the community.

Let's be honest, you probably don't have a DVD player anymore, and you probably don't want to buy one

just so you can watch that one DVD you have.

If you can't find what you're looking for, remember that your library is just a

branch of a much larger resource tree.

You can request a book from another branch, or a partner library.

Often, county libraries are connected across the state or region and they all share inventory.

You can request any item in your library's system by placing a hold on it.

Most libraries are set up so you can place a hold online, then a library circulation

assistant will pull that item from the collection for you and set it aside under your card number

until you can come pick it up.

Or, if it's at a partner library, they'll send it by courier to your library where a

circ assistant will put it aside for you.

Usually you have about a week to pick it up.

This is really nice when you want a popular item that's always checked out.

By placing a hold, you're reserving your spot in the queue to check that item out.

It also helps librarians see which items are popular and they can order more.

If none of the libraries in your partner system have the item you want, then libraries use

I.L.L. or Interlibrary Loan.

This is when a library basically checks a book out on your behalf from another library

outside its system and then lends it to you.

These items are usually rare, which is why they're only in one or a few libraries,

and have a shorter check-out time.

Some are so rare that they can be shared between libraries, but you can't check them out

and leave the library with them.

In that case, the ILL librarian will set you up in a room to study the item and maybe make

copies.

And if not even the magical ILL librarian can find the item you want, then maybe they'll

just have to find a way to acquire that item for the collection.

It's the room of requirement after all!

And in order for libraries to fulfill the needs of their communities, librarians rely

on their community members to tell them what they want to see in their library.

Finally, don't forget to be patient and kind when it comes to requesting changes to your local

library.

Librarians are balancing the needs and wants of every person in your community.

Which is pretty amazing. Good people, librarians.

Telling Your Crush You Like Them If You'll Never See Them Again - Duration: 2:55.

Heya playa, have you ever liked someone so much that you just couldn't keep it inside

and you knew you had to tell them?

Well that's exactly what Cacen Flowers was going through when he asked me this "I'm just

going to tell mine because I'm moving and I hope it will make me feel better to tell

my best friend I like her."

Cacen, should you tell your best friend you like her?

You're moving away, does it make sense?

I'm gonna answer that question right after this.

THIS IS THE JOSH SPEAKS.

YOU'RE WATCHING THE JOSH SPEAKS.

So this is a tough kind of situation mainly because there's multiple factors and things

going on that we have to break down.

First let's talk about the fact that Cacen is moving, whenever you're moving to a new

place you never want to leave any loose ends because it just feels weird moving somewhere

new and knowing you have unfinished business somewhere else.

Second, Cacen has a crush on someone and that someone just happens to be his best friend,

which makes things a little bit more complicated to deal with.

And third, his best friend has no clue how he actually feels so bringing all that together:

Cacen is moving, he likes his best friend and they don't know, it makes it very complicated.

But initially what he wants to do is let his feelings out and honestly I would say that

in this situation, that's totally fine.

Normally the reason why I saw don't tell your crush how you feel but show them how you feel

is by simply telling them, you're creating 50/50 odds for yourself where they're either

going to say "yes I like you" or "no I don't".

By showing them how you feel, you're open to the idea of learning more about their personality,

sharing more of yourself with them and spending individual one on one time with them and then

seeing if you can develop a relationship from it.

But in this situation there's a chance you may never see them again so what does he really

lose?

Honestly I would say nothing, if she does end up liking him back he gets to spend the

remainder of time he has with her and if she doesn't, well then they can just awkwardly

be friends and it won't last so long and he can go on his merry way.

The other piece to it all is getting that secret off of your chest, telling someone

you like them might make you feel better but does it ultimately lead in the direction and

results that you want?

In this case it might make sense to test those 50/50 odds because you really only have a

short window of time to do anything.

But, if your crush is your best friend and they're someone that you're going to see regularly

and you're not moving, like I said show them how you feel instead.

What do you think though, if you were moving away, would that suddenly give you the courage

to tell your crush how you feel?

Leave your comments below and we'll talk about it.

If you have a question you want to ask me, shoot me a message over on one of my social

media accounts or leave a comment on this video and if you want to pick up a Josh Speaks

I'm on Tinder now

I've been talking to this Logan guy for a few days,

and he seemed normal,

but then yesterday morning,

I woke up to a text from him that read:

"Wanna fuck, sugar tits?"

Eew... obviously I didn't respond,

but then he messaged me later again that day,

and he was being less gross,

so I decided to give him another chance.

And then today

he asked me to send him a picture of my big toe.

Needless to say, that's over.

But I don't know,

maybe it's me.

Maybe I'm being too picky.

Would it have killed me to send him a picture of my toe?

- Thank you for this.

♫ How many people rise and say

♫ My brain's so awfully glad to be here

♫ For yet another mindless day

♫ Now, I've got all morning to obsessively accrue

♫ A small nation of meaningful objects

♫ And they've gotta represent me too

♫ And by this afternoon, I'll live in debt

♫ And by tomorrow, be replaced by children

♫ How many people rise and think

♫ Oh good, the stranger's body's still here

♫ Our arrangement hasn't changed

♫ Now, I've got a lifetime to consider all the ways

♫ I've grown more disappointing to you

♫ As my beauty warps and fades

♫ And I suspect you feel the same

♫ When I was young

♫ I dreamt of a passionate obligation to a roommate

♫ Is this the part where I get all I ever wanted

♫ Oh, just a little too bored in the USA

Don't Be Afraid. Just Do It! from Using the Career Compass To Find Your Career - Duration: 1:04.

Yes.

it can be scary.

I do want to address that.

It can be frightening.

It can be a little off-putting.

"What do I have to write?

How do I...?

Oh, I'm not that good of a writer."

You know what?

You get better.

I started off writing the column when I had never written anything but college papers

and everything I had ran through my wife who's an English teacher and it would come back

all redlined at the time and every column I got a little bit better and those chronic

problems that she corrected every single column, every single week, started to disappear.

My commas got better.

My possessive's got better.

Anybody can get there and I will say even if the quality of what you're sharing -- how

it's presented -- how it's shot on video -- how it's written -- is a little bit less than

perfect -- and we'll all think our stuff is less than perfect -- it's just human nature

-- if it's good information, people will forgive a lot.

People will forgive crappy video if the message inside that video is good and important to

them.

Threats to Retirement Savings | Sandusky OH | The Law Office of Michael L Brumbaugh, Co , L P A - Duration: 2:04.

What are the biggest threats to my retirement savings?

I would say there's a few threats.

One, and this isn't something we do in our office but at least I'll point it out is sometimes

we see folks that have their retirement plans invested too aggressively for their age and

what the other assets they have and their income, or their eggs are all in one basket.

So that always worries me and if I see it, I point it out.

I'm not a financial planner but I tell them that maybe something they want to look at

because it's pretty horrible if you had everything invested and then we have a downturn in the

market like we did around 2008 when the recession hit, and the market goes down and then you

have to start selling stuff to pay for long-term care.

That's pretty horrible.

Or if you even just have to take, there's no long-term care, if you have to take a required

minimum distribution out when the market's turned down, that's painful.

So that's one thing, but what this question's probably really asking is when it comes to

long-term care.

Ohio counts what's in your IRA as part of your spend-down.

If you're husband and wife, they lump all your assets, accountable assets together,

the husband's and the wife's including IRAs.

If you're single, again IRAs are counted.

It doesn't matter that you'd have to pay taxes on them when you pulled it out.

Medicaid program doesn't care.

So if you're paying $84,000 a year for the nursing home because it's running $7,000 a

month currently for a shared room, that's $84,000 a year, it doesn't take long to put

a significant dent in your retirement assets.

Long Term Care Costs | Sandusky OH | The Law Office of Michael L Brumbaugh, Co , L P A - Duration: 3:42.

If I'm married and I have to go into a nursing home, what does my spouse get to keep?

That's a great question, and there's two components to that we want to talk about: One is assets,

and one is income.

Here in Ohio, the spouse that's staying at home gets to keep all of his or her income,

so Medicaid doesn't touch that.

Now, the spouse that needs Medicaid, Medicaid says they get to keep $50 of the income.

So if they've got social security and pensions coming in, Medicaid says all they got to keep

is $50 of that a month, and then, they got to pay their own health premiums out of their

income.

Then, Medicaid says the rest of their income goes to the nursing homes or goes towards

their long-term care, kind of like a co-pay, but Medicaid calls that patient liability.

Now, there's an exception to that.

If the spouse that's at home, which Medicaid calls the community spouse, if they have really

low income, they're not going to be able to survive with all the institutionalized spouse

applying for Medicaid if they don't get to keep any of that income.

Medicaid will say if the healthy spouse, the community spouse whose income is less than

about $2,000, then Medicaid will let them keep some of the sick spouse's income, so

that when we add it to the healthy spouse's income, we get them up to at least about $2,000

of income.

That could still be very hard on folks if ... We're working with clients recently.

They have about $4,500 right now coming into their household and the husband has most of

that income.

It's about 3,500 his.

So even if we get the wife up to $2,000 in income, she's still going to suffer because

she used to a household budget of $4,500.

That's the rules how they work on income.

Now let's talk about assets for a husband and wife.

Medicaid typically treats the house as exempt, unless it's in a trust, and then, that's something

we have to deal with.

Car is exempt, so the most valuable car, and household stuff is typically exempt.

Now everything else, husband and wife stuff they lump together, all the other assets they

lump other together.

Typical is they divide in half and they say, "Healthy spouse, you get to keep one half,

unless your one-half is worth more than about $119,000."

That number just out of Columbus every couple of years, but right now, it's about $119,000.

So typically, they get to keep one half, unless their half is more than $119,000.

Anything that they don't get to keep is part of the spend down.

It has to be spent down.

People in Medicaid will pay for the bills.

That's where we help clients with is to know what the rules are and help them protect what

otherwise they'd have to spend down.

Even though Medicaid says you need to spend this down, it does not have to spent at the

nursing home on long-term care.

There's legal options, other options under Medicaid's rules.

Think of it like the IRS code where there's exemptions.

Medicaid has exemptions, too.

But if you work with somebody like us that knows those exemptions, we can save significant

money out of the spend downs, so it doesn't have to be spent at the nursing home on long-term

care.

Long Term Care Insurance | Sandusky OH | The Law Office of Michael L Brumbaugh, Co , L P A - Duration: 3:39.

I really don't want to get long-term care insurance.

Are there any other options available to protect my assets from long-term care costs?

Probably are other possible solutions.

First let's talk about what long-term care insurance, what traditional long-term care

insurance is.

That's the kind of insurance where you pay a premium, often a pretty large premium, to

an insurance company.

In return, they say they will pay certain long-term care benefits on your behalf.

That might be the nursing home bill.

That might be an assisted living or home healthcare bill.

In return, typically there's a bit of a deductible that they call an elimination period that

might be pretty common as the first 90 days the policy doesn't cover.

The main complaints I hear from folks about why they don't have long-term care insurance,

a few reasons.

One is, people say, "Well, I'm never going to go to the nursing home, so I don't need

long-term care insurance."

And I always chuckle and I say, "Well go out to the nursing home.

They're full and they're full of people who never thought they would be in the nursing

home."

Nobody ever wants to be in a nursing home, but it happens.

The other most common answer I hear from people as to why they don't have long-term care insurance

is it's really expensive, and if I don't use it, I lose it.

Meaning all those premiums they paid, they lost.

I understand why people don't like long-term care insurance.

It's a tool in our toolkit.

It's something we look at.

If you have a really high amount of income, then it might make sense to get long-term

care insurance.

But there's actually other solutions that are actually pretty neat, and they're fairly

new.

Most financial planners do not ... they're not familiar with them, and that's not because

financial planners are bad.

Financial planners, a lot of great ones out there, but they are used to trying to grow

your money.

At a certain stage of life, that is what we want.

But when clients to see me and we're talking about eldercare protection, we're talking

about protecting their assets.

And there are actually products out there now that are annuities or life insurance where

we can tag that into certain riders to get long-term care coverage that are quite interesting

in the fact that if you never need long-term care, then your heirs get the life insurance

or the annuity, just like any other life insurance or annuity.

But if you put money in there and need long-term care, depending on when you get in the product,

it might quadruple the benefits for long-term care.

Let's say somebody repositions $50,000 from a CD that's not paying them anything right

now in this climate and puts it into one of these products, it might go from 50,000 to

$100,000 death benefit if they never need long-term care, but it might go to 200,000,

so 50,000 to 200,000 if they need long-term care.

We help clients with that.

I work with somebody who's a financial planner.

But I had to search all over the place to find a financial planner that actually specializes

in financial products that help people protect their assets from long-term care costs.

Most financial planners aren't familiar with that area.

I found somebody that is, and he helps our clients protect their assets.
