Question: "Was Jesus born on December 25th?
Is December 25th Jesus' birthday?"
In this video I'll answer those questions from a biblical perspective.
Afterwards, I'll share some helpful resources, so stick around until the end.
Speculation as to the time of Jesus' birth dates back to the 3rd century, when Hyppolytus
claimed that Jesus was born on December 25.
The earliest mention of some sort of observance on that date is in the Philoclian Calendar,
representing Roman practice, of the year 336.
Later, John Chrysostom favored the same date of birth.
Cyril of Jerusalem had access to the original Roman birth census, which also documented
that Jesus was born on the 25th of December.
The date eventually became the officially recognized date for Christmas in part because
it coincided with the pagan festivals celebrating Saturnalia and the winter solstice.
The church thereby offered people a Christian alternative to the pagan festivities and eventually
reinterpreted many of their symbols and actions in ways acceptable to
Christian faith and practice.
December 25 has become more and more acceptable as the birth date of Jesus.
However, some argue that the birth occurred in some other season, such as in the fall.
Followers of this theory claim that the Judean winters were too cold for shepherds to be
watching their flocks by night.
History proves otherwise, however, and we have historical evidence that unblemished
lambs for the Temple sacrifice were in fact kept in the fields near Bethlehem during
the winter months.
With that said, it is impossible to prove whether or not Jesus was born on December 25th.
And, ultimately, it does not matter.
The truth is we simply don't know the exact date of our Savior's birth.
In fact, we don't even know for sure the year in which He was born.
Scholars believe it was somewhere between 6 B.C. and 4 B.C.
One thing is clear: if God felt it was important for us to know the exact date of the Savior's
birth, He certainly would have told us in His Word.
The Gospel of Luke gives very specific details about the event, even down to what the baby
was wearing – "swaddling clothes"—and where he slept—"in a manger".
These details are important because they speak of His nature and character, meek and lowly.
But the exact date of His birth has no significance whatsoever, which may be why God chose
not to mention it.
The fact is that He was born, that He came into the world to atone for our sins, that
He was resurrected to eternal life, and that He's alive today.
This is what we should celebrate, as we are told in the Old Testament in such passages
as Zechariah 2:10: "'Shout and be glad, O Daughter of Zion.
For I am coming, and I will live among you,' declares the LORD."
Further, the angel that announced the birth to the shepherds brought "good news of great
joy that will be for all the people".
Surely here is the cause for celebration every day, not just once a year.

How to Have Limitless Faith with Kenneth and Gloria Copeland (Air Date 12-26-17) - Duration: 23:11.
IRETA WILLOUGHBY: I told my family, "Do not come in here.
You will not cry. We are not crying over this. There is not
going to be any emotion. I am standing on the
Word of God. I need your faith, and if you
can't, you cannot come over to the house."
(Singing) I know my God has made the way for
me. I know my God has made the way for me.
KENNETH: Hello, everybody. We're Kenneth and Gloria
Copeland. Welcome to the Believer's Voice
of Victory broadcast. Father, we thank You
today. GLORIA: Yes, Lord. KENNETH: We give You praise and
honor and glory. GLORIA: Thank You, Jesus. KENNETH: Thank You,
Lord Jesus, for being our Lord, for being our Savior, for being
everything-- GLORIA: Thank You, Lord. KENNETH: --to us. You are
everything. You are--oh, You are the alpha and the omega--
GLORIA: Yes. KENNETH: --beginning and the--omega, the
beginning and the ending, and all in between. And we praise
and-- GLORIA: Praise God. KENNETH: --we worship today in
that marvelous name-- GLORIA: Thank You. KENNETH: --Jesus.
GLORIA: Hallelujah. KENNETH: Amen. Gloria, you look ravishing
today-- GLORIA: Well, thank you, my dear. KENNETH: --as always,
my dear. GLORIA: I appreciate that. KENNETH: I tell you what,
it won't be but about, let's see, three and a half months
from now. GLORIA: What? KENNETH: On April the 13th. GLORIA: Oh.
KENNETH: Amen. GLORIA: How many years? KENNETH: 56 years.
GLORIA: 56 years with one woman. KENNETH: Yeah. GLORIA: Think
about it. KENNETH: Yeah! Amen. I'm looking for 56 more.
(Laughs) GLORIA: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. We're going to do
something special on our hundredth anniversary. KENNETH:
Oh, yeah. Yeah, it'll be special one way or the other. (Laughs)
GLORIA: Yes, it will. KENNETH: Hallelujah. This week, we're
going to be showing you some partner testimonies that
will--that will--testimonies inspire your faith. GLORIA: Yes,
they do. Glory to God. KENNETH: It--it's--I think I can say it
like this where, you know, spiritual things are sometimes
hard to put into words. But you hear a testimony, it seems like
you get bigger on the inside. And particularly when someone
points out exactly what they did and exactly what God said He'd
do and He did and you hear that and you think, "Oh, I can do
that. GLORIA: That's right. KENNETH: Amen. I tell you,
you're going to like this. I'm telling you you're going to like
this. GLORIA: Okay, I believe it. KENNETH: Watch this.
IRETA WILLOUGHBY: Well, it actually began in September of
last year. Actually, it'll be a year this month. And I was at
church getting ready to teach a prayer class, and I
just began to start hemorrhaging. So we
went to the emergency room and was there
actually all night long. They ran all sorts of tests on me.
And when the doctor came in about 5:00 that morning, the
look on her face, I knew something was wrong. We went the
next day to the gynecologist, and he did a biopsy on me, and
his words were, "Oh, it doesn't look like it is." You know, "I
think you've got endometriosis, and so we'll get back to you on
the biopsies." The following Wednesday night, I was preparing
for class again to teach, and I get this phone call about 6:00.
And he said, "This is--" the doctor--and he said, "I just
want you to know your biopsy report came back." And he said,
"It is cancer." JIM WILLOUGHBY: She called me that after--that
Wednesday afternoon when she got the report from the doctor. It
hit me, and I'm like, "Nope. Now wait a minute. That's not the
report we're supposed to get." IRETA: And some of my staff was
still in the office, so I called them in, and I said, "I need you
guys to pray over me. We need to speak the Word, because this is
what my doctor just told me." And in that conversation with my
doctor, he had said, "I have a spot open. You need a complete
hysterectomy." So I went ahead and went into the hospital and
had the surgery done, and he took out 16 lymph nodes, and
said that he felt like he got it all. I was very weak. I could
hardly walk. I couldn't make it up the stairs to our bedroom, so
I stayed downstairs in my recliner, right in front of the
TV. And I told my husband, "I want a CD player right beside
me. I want the Word--I want to listen to the Word, Gloria's
Healing School, Brother Copeland teaching on healing." And there
was a CD that just ministered to me so much. It was Len Mink
singing and Brother Copeland and Gloria reading scripture in
between each worship course. I played that probably five to six
times a day. I told my family, I said-- JIM: And she about wore
out the CD player. IRETA: I did I have to get another one
actually. I told my family, "Do not come in here. You will not
cry. We are not crying over this. There is not going to be
any emotion. I am standing on the Word of God. I need your
faith, and if you can't, you cannot come over to the house."
So I had the TV on with Brother Copeland's program on there, and
I put in Gloria's CDs, DVD players. And I just played the
Word nonstop. So we went back to do a followup a week and a half
later, and the doctor said, "Well, the report's come in, and
three of the lymph nodes have come back positive." And I got
kind of mad, and I thought, "No. I'm gonna fight. I'm gonna fight
this thing." And he said, "I want you to do chemo for six to
eight weeks and radiation for six to eight weeks. I've already
set up your appointment, and I want you to go." We get in the
car, and I said, "I'm not doing it." I just knew in my spirit I
was not to do it. JIM: BVOVN was on 24/7. The CDs were going
24/7. And, you know, I saw that Word going into her and building
her up and strengthening her faith. So when that report came,
we were ready for it. IRETA: God spoke to my heart to make a list
of healing scriptures, so he typed me up a whole list of
healing scriptures. Every day, I spoke those over my--over
myself. I would declare those and say, "Okay, this is my
medicine. I'm taking my medicine today. And, Lord, in Your Word
is life, and that life is living inside of me as I speak it over
me." When we went back to him, his first words were, "Well I
notice here you didn't go--" JIM: Yeah. IRETA: "--to the
oncologist." And I-- JIM: And I think he said, "Are you going
to?" or something like that. IRETA: "Are you going to go?"
And I said, "No. We have chosen--I have chosen to get
healthy." And he looks at us, and he says, "Well, that's
really probably the best thing to do." The surgeon wanted me
to, every three to six months, do followup. So he did another
CAT scan on me. And he said, "I just want to make sure." And I
said, "Everything's going to be fine. It's--I know I'm fine. I
know I'm healed." And he says, "Well, in your lungs and your
chest, no, we didn't find anything." So he said, "But we
did find a lymph node that has grown and enlarged." And I
thought, "You lying devil." JIM: I said, "Did you see any
tumors?" "Well, no." I go, "Do you see any lesions?" "No." "So
what makes you think the cancer's come back?" "Well, one
lymph node has increased 9 millimeters." And I'm thinking,
"Well, that's not even a quarter of an inch, and it's only one
lymph node." And so immediately, we contacted her naturopathic
doctor, and he said, "Send me the biopsy, send me the
pathology, send me the CAT scan. Let me see it all." So we sent
it to him, and--and he said, "They took 16 lymph nodes out of
your system. Your lymphatic system is all jacked up." He
said, "Why they would tell you you have cancer," he says, "what
I'm reading on the--on the CT scan and on the--the lab work,"
he says, "I don't see anything. And looking at your blood," he
says, "life is in the blood." And I'm like, "Yep. That's what
the Scripture says." And he says, "Your blood is
healthy--her blood is healthy." He says, "This is just a minor
little thing. We can take care of this." In fact, our last
visit, he looked at the blood, he said, "This is not the blood
of a cancer patient. This blood is too healthy." And he said, "I
can tell you, staking my license on it, that you don't have any
cancer in your body because your blood is too healthy." IRETA: As
long as I am healthy and take care of this body that God has
blessed me with, then I can speak the Word. With long life
will He satisfy me and show me my--His salvation. But I can't
speak that Word and it work if I'm not
doing anything to make it happen.
KENNETH: Now, that's why the Lord had us put
Believer's Voice of Victory Network on 24 hours a day,
Gloria. GLORIA: That's right. KENNETH: "Faith cometh by
hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." Think about it like
this: Faith cometh by hearing and hearing and hearing and
hearing and hearing and hearing and hearing and hearing and
hearing and hearing. GLORIA: That's right. We can testify to
that. KENNETH: And it comes--did you know that there are certain
animals, fish, that if they would--if they could increase
the amount of food that they eat, they would just continue to
keep growing? It--they don't have a--they're limited to what
they can eat, not the mouth that they can grow. Faith is that
way. You just keep feeding it, it'll just keep growing, keep--
GLORIA: Yes. KENNETH: There's no limit to it. It's God faith! Are
you listening? The limit is mixing it with some other kind
of mess. Hey, this is what I was talking about yesterday. This is
why Jesus went to hell. This is why He was raised from the dead,
so that He could say right there in Mark 11:22, "Have faith
in--have the faith of God. For verily I say unto you,
Whosoever--" GLORIA: That's me. KENNETH: "--shall say unto this
mountain, Be thou removed, be thou cast into the sea; shall
not doubt in his heart, believe those things which he says come
to pass; he'll have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto
you, What soever thing you desire, when you pray--" GLORIA:
Yes, I believe that. KENNETH: "--believe you receive them, and
you shall have them. And when you stand praying, forgive, if
you have ought against any." GLORIA: Thank You. KENNETH: Hey,
and, "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."
GLORIA: That's right. KENNETH: It don't come by hearing the
Word of God about once a week. Who was it that said--I believe
it was F.F. Bosworth. Anyway, one of our old heroes said, "You
wonder why you're so weak in faith? You feed your body three
hot meals a day and your spirit one cold snack a week." (Laughs)
Amen. But that's true because Jesus-- GLORIA: That's the way
it is a lot of times. KENNETH: --said, "Man doesn't live by
bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth
of God." Amen. GLORIA: Amen. KENNETH: And I'm sitting here
thinking of LeShea McKinney's testimony, same thing. She had
30 days to live. She went into it night and day. She didn't
mess with anything else. She came out of the end of 30 days
totally, completely healed. GLORIA: Praise God. KENNETH:
Amen. GLORIA: Glory to God. KENNETH: Isn't that glorious?
GLORIA: Yes. KENNETH: Watch this one. ADEBISI ILORI: My name is
Adebisi Ilori. I'm from Nigeria. I live in Kano. It's in the
northern part of Nigeria. And so I work in the church as a
pastor. I'm a pastor in the church, in charge of the youth,
in charge of training. And I oversee one of our campuses in
the capital of the country. But I have my law firm, and I'm in
full-time legal practice as a lawyer to my clients, my cases
and everything. Now, was it last year, in particular, the country
went through a lot of problems. And oil prices fell, maybe--I
believe it was a fall. And Nigeria is a very oil-dependent
economy. We rely on the oil resources. And when they say,
"falling oil prices," it tends to affect everybody. And so we
had a new government come in. They were grappling with the
corruption of the previous administration, and everything
was in a mess in the country. There was no money. Things were
tough, no government contracts, no--businesses were failing. And
everybody had a tale of woe. And it was true, if you look at the
natural, everything was down. Businesses were shutting down,
and people were finding it very hard to make a living. But you
know, it's always funny--but it's not funny because, you
know, when the Word comes into you, it comes into your heart,
and it stays there. And when it's in, it's like, because it
has been deposited in your heart, the Holy Spirit is able
to bring it up when it's needed. And what came up in my heart was
what Brother Copeland said, not to that--not to--not last year.
But he said many years ago, but I took it for last year, is,
"Don't join the recession." And so I decided, "Look, I'm not
going to join in this recession. I'm a partner of a ministry
that's very prosperous and doesn't live by natural
resources." And so I decided, "Look, no matter what's
happening in Nigeria, I'm going to live above the economy of
Nigeria." And I began to sow more. I decided to make sure I
fulfilled my--increased my giving to the LXCX projects. I
increased my giving last year. I started giving more at the
beginning of the year. We didn't know the year was going to turn
out that bad. But God had put it on my heart to increase my
giving, increase my giving. Eventually, I paid off all my
pledges for the--for the projects. And all of a sudden,
what God did for me was amazing. Some of my clients, who were not
based in Nigeria, they're based in Europe, all of a sudden had a
problem in Nigeria, in Kamipotskola. And it was like,
"Well, we have a lawyer in Kano, and he knows what to do." And
amazingly, when they ask, "What's your bill?" they say,
"Anything he wants. Just pay him." And so it turned out that,
last year, even though there was a crisis in the nation, was one
of my best years ever because my income was no longer tied to the
economy of the nation, it was tied to the kingdom of God. And
God ensured that I was living far beyond what the economy
could produce. God made sure that all my needs were met,
everything I wanted, not only the things I needed, but the
things I wanted! Everything was done; took me to another level
financially. Last year, I remember, when we were having
the conference, Brother Creflo had said something about "Where
you are here resting, God will be walking for you." That word
was so in me. As we were in the convention, the clients had
called me. They wanted me to do something for them in Nigeria. I
was here in the convention. I just called one of my staff in
the office, "Do this." They did it within 15 minutes, they sent
me the report, I sent it to my client. Before I got back from
the convention, I had over $30,000 waiting for me in my
account. And I--I believe that's God. And that's when you give
attention to God's Word and you allow God's Word into your
heart, it doesn't matter what's happening to a nation or to an
economy. When it's in the kingdom of God, we're in Christ,
and God will take care of His people. So you know that there
was a crisis in the nation, an economy crisis, because of the
Word of God that had prepared my heart and the faith through the
teachings of Brother Kenneth and Sister Gloria, and I had that,
that had made such a change, a climate change in me, I was able
to ride that wave to move to another level in my life. It was
like my mind was expand--expanded. There were
some things that, you know, were difficult to believe God for,
they now became easy. My expectations, the realization of
the possibilities of the life I can live in Christ, what is
available for me that is not going to be determined by where
I live geographically or my location, but by who I am in
Christ Jesus and what Christ has provided for me. And that
message works wherever. I stay in Kano. It's maybe not even on
the map and maybe not known by many people. But that Word has
worked for me in the deserts of Nigeria producing upon us,
producing wealth, producing a life of freedom and liberty and
joy and peace. So I'd like to encourage everybody to get to
the Word, stay with the Word, and allow the Word of God to
transform them. KENNETH: What'd he say, Gloria? He said, "I live
in a place you probably never heard of." And he said, "But it
worked for me--" GLORIA: Yes. KENNETH: "--because I know what
belongs to me in Christ." He said, "Get with the Word. Get
into the Word." He said, "The Word worked for me in Africa."
He said--in other words, you can say it like this: "If it worked
for me where I am, it'll work for you where you are--" GLORIA:
Yeah. KENNETH: "--because God's no respecter of persons." He
said, "Get in the Word. Get with the Word and let the Word work."
So you notice here it was the Word of God. It was the Word of
God that healed Ireta. It was the Word of God that transformed
Brother Adebisi's--his finances right in the middle of a
recession. And he had the best year he'd ever had in his life.
GLORIA: Praise God. KENNETH: But I'm--another thing I want you to
notice, in both cases, Ireta got--and her family--I want to
point this out to you. She wouldn't even let her own
children come over there and cry and mess around without--no, no.
"If you can't stay in the Word of God and you can't stay on--in
faith, don't even come over here and see me." Now, you have to
get real with this. And--thank You, Lord. It's back to total
immersion in that Word. Faith came. Faith always comes. It
always comes. There's no such thing as faith that doesn't
come. They both--in both cases, got in the Word. And both of
them began to go crosswise and they cut across what everybody
else does. They didn't go the same route as everybody else.
GLORIA: That's right. KENNETH: Ireta said, "No, no, no, we've
got it in our hearts. I'm not going--I'm not going to go take
that medicine." Now, she didn't get healed because she refused
the medicine. That's foolishness. The--you--it was
the Word that was working. And it came up on the inside of her.
She knew in her spirit she didn't need that. GLORIA: She
had medicine-- KENNETH: Yeah, yeah-- GLORIA: --good medicine.
KENNETH: --God's medicine. GLORIA: That's right. KENNETH:
In fact, he quoted that, that it was--she did, too, that it was
her medicine. All right, now here's a lawyer, an attorney,
that instead of doing what everybody else is going to do
and draw back in the recession, he increased his sowing. He
increased his giving. He comes to the United States and gets
into the Believers' Convention. He is there. He is in it. He is
doing what God's telling him to do, and God prospered him while
he was here by $30,000. GLORIA: Praise God. KENNETH: Amen.
Hallelujah. GLORIA: That's good. KENNETH: Isn't that just
wonderfully good? GLORIA: Stay with the Word. KENNETH: It's
just-- GLORIA: Stay with the Word. KENNETH: --oh, my
goodness. Now, faith-- GLORIA: You can't--you cannot stay in
faith without staying with the Word. KENNETH: No, no, because
here it is: "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word
of God." GLORIA: Yes, that's right. KENNETH: Faith cometh by
hearing, and hearing and hearing and hearing and hearing and
hearing and hearing and hearing and hearing and then adhering,
adhering, hearing and adhering-- GLORIA: Adhering? Yeah, that's
good. KENNETH: --hearing and adhering. GLORIA: Doing, acting
on it. KENNETH: Yeah, doing what--doing what the Word is
leading you to do. And you just stay in it and stay in it and
stay in it and stay in it. And you just lock out everything
else. And it's coming. GLORIA: That's right. KENNETH: You can't
feel it coming. Huh-uh, no. It comes automatically. Now, I'm
not talking about religious tradition. I'm talking about--
GLORIA: Yeah. KENNETH: --the Word of faith. I'm talking about
the Word itself. I'm talking about going to the words of
Jesus and believing them, praise God, the Word of faith and the
Word of deliverance, the Word of healing and the financial
outpouring of God in your life. Hallelujah. GLORIA: Amen.
KENNETH: Amen. GLORIA: That's how we got out of debt. KENNETH:
Yeah, and stayed out. GLORIA: Stayed with the Word. KENNETH:
And stayed out. GLORIA: Stayed with the Word. KENNETH: Oh,
Lord, we didn't--it was--well, another thing, Gloria, that we
never did do--and, in fact, we closed the door and burnt the
bridge right at the very beginning when we did anything,
and way behind on everything, $24,000 behind. And that was in
1967, so figure out the exchange and the inflation. GLORIA:
44,000, maybe. KENNETH: Well, it was--24,000 then-- GLORIA: It
was then. KENNETH: --would be up somewhere around 5-, $600,000,
now, in today's money. GLORIA: Yeah. KENNETH: And all of it bad
debt. But we took communion and we sat before God and we laid it
out before Him. "Number one, we will never ask anybody for a
place to preach. Number two, we will never, ever preach based on
a financial arrangement. And number three, we will never ask
anybody to meet our needs." Now, we receive offering and so
forth. I mean, that's scriptural. But to call somebody
and say, "You're going to have to help me out here, brother.
You're going to have to help me, all right? You know, I've got to
have several thousand dollars here because they're--" you
know? No, no, no. Well, what do you-- "They're going to come get
my car." Well, let them come get it. GLORIA: You need a new car
anyway. (Laughs) KENNETH: Hallelujah. You're going to have
to make a stand, take a stand, and stand therefore having done
all to stand, stand. They said, "What if I die? What do I do
then?" You know Jesus? "Yeah." Well, the other side of that's
stunning, brother. (Laughs) I mean, take your stand!
Hallelujah. We'll be back in just a moment.
ANNOUNCER: We hope you enjoyed today's teaching from Kenneth
Copeland Ministries. And remember Jesus is Lord.

Japanese Movies and Actors | Tokyo [Hyesoo In JAPAN] - Duration: 8:48.
What's your name?
Japan's film production is ranked No.3 worldwide
behind only the United States and India
ts film industry is also ranked No.3, behind the U.S. and China
Japan has been known as the 3rd largest film producing nation in the world
Japan's film industry began in 1986
since then it has begun making domestic films
Its film industry has a very long history
Since the 1950s
Japan has won the Academy Award
and Cannes Film Festival awards multiple times
The more recent 2009 film 「Departures」 won
the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film
In anime, the widely popular 「Spirited Away」 won the
2003 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature
The first Asian actress to win the Academy Award was also Japanese
In 1958, actress Miyoshi Umeki won Best Supporting Actress for her role in 「Sayonara」
These awards prove to the world the solid strength of Japanese cinemas
Fall is the season of subtle sensibilities
It also marks the height of Asian film festivals
The 22nd Busan International Film Festival
saw the most number of Japanese film stars attending
It is indeed a fruitful year for Japanese films
NTDTV Happy New Year!
Immediately after the Busan festival, Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) was held for the 30th year.
Despite inclement weather
TIFF kicked off in a warm atmosphere
So let's check out the following keywords
and follow Hyesoo to see what superstars she got to meet
Suda Masaki , youth
One of the most sought after actor currently in Japan
an icon representing youth in their 20s-- Suda Masaki
Hyesoo's question to Suda
What does 「youth」 mean to you?
What does 「youth」 mean to you?
Youth?
To me, youth is someone in their teens or twenties, green and innocent
But lots of people in their 30s, 40s or 50s are known as being youthful
Generally, youthful people share the traits
of being very devoted to and passionate
about achieving their goals, and working tirelessly
and drenched in sweat without ever turning back
Hashimoto Kanna, TIFF ambassador
Known as 「the kind of beauty that comes once every 1000 years」
Hashimoto Kanna is dubbed by Japanese media as a 「millennium idol」
Fans actually flew to Tokyo so they could meet Hashimoto Kanna
Let's follow how Kanna enjoyed TIFF!
I hope all of you from other counties can enjoy beautiful films here at TIFF
Just like the movie "Your Name" by Shinkai Makoto
who also directed many animations
NTDTV, Happy New Year!
Kawase Naomi, Japan's Queen of Cannes
Kawase Naomi enjoys international recognition for her work 「Suzaku」
which won her the 「Best New Director」 award at the Cannes Film Festival
the youngest director to win this honor
She's appeared on red carpets all around the world
enjoying even more glamour than film stars
In her opinion, director Kawase, what is real beauty?
I think beauty comes in different kinds
For example, someone with inner strength will naturally exude beauty on his/her outer appearance
As a human being, when you lack resolve in your heart
your posture would lack uprightness
It's better to speak your mind frankly and directly
Kora Kengo, Tokyo Earthquake 2011, Concept actor
The terrifying 2011 Tokyo Earthquake and Tsunami shocked the world
Several years later
as part of its aftershocks
many are still affected by the resulting environmental pollution and severe damages
Especially the sufferings of people living in the affected regions
which words just cannot describe
the film 「Side Job」 is the story of the terrifying realities
of the disaster and the lingering pain of the survivors in Fukushima
This film was screened at the latest Busan Film Festival
Japanese actor Kora Kengo, known as a 「concept actor」
brings more attention to the film
especially since last year he went to Kumamoto, an affected region, as a volunteer
When Kumamoto was hit by earthquake
I thought, we are faced with the entire earth
Earthquakes come from the earth, from nature
In our history, we've lived through earthquakes continually without ways of preventing them
How do we handle unpredictable events?
I believe in being prepared. When disasters strike, we must try our best to survive each day
This applies to the earthquake in Kumamoto
As for Fukushima, however, it's not just natural disasters but also nuclear pollution caused by power plant meltdowns
This is a problem that would take decades if not longer to resolve
and it must never be forgotten
As long as we inhabit the earth
we must find ways to cope with nature. Future generations too must find ways to cope with nature
But Fukushima is a little bit different
Actually, it's a lot different
It involves nuclear power plants
What do we have to do about this?
Of all the information we've gotten, we have to know what to choose
To remember what happened, we must voice our concerns and take actions
Maybe I can say such things because I am not from Fukushima
People who actually live there might think we are ignorant of what's really going on there
that it's like this or like that, etc
But I think we are all part of the same earth
What happened in Fukushima is both natural and man-made
We have to be clear on that
. It's not just an earthquake
pardon me if I sound rude by saying that
but I think the problem is not just earthquake or tsunami

Who owns tricks? #flowthoughts - Duration: 4:26.
Hey gang!
Drex here from DrexFactor.com and today I wanted to talk a bit about something that
can be kind of a sensitive issue in the flow arts world and for good reason: who owns what?
There's a debate that comes up on a not-infrequent basis about what if any form of ownership
someone who invents a trick is entitled to.
Do people get to own tricks?
Do they get to tell other people what they can and cannot use in performances or workshops?
Let's a deeper look.
Before we dive in, I just want to take a moment to give a shout out to the friends of the
channel!
Big thanks to Dark Monk, Emazing Lights, Flowtoys, Spinballs, and Ultra Poi for helping to make
the videos on this channel possible.
You can visit them all on the web by following the links down in the description of this
video.
Let's start off with two things that I think are really important to acknowledge:
The first is that people work really, really hard on the things that they create.
It's inevitable that with that work there's a sense of ownership that takes hold.
It's hardest to do things for the first time but once that wall is broken down it
makes it vastly easier for the next person to come through.
I don't think it's bad to have that feeling of pride in the work you've invested into
what you create.
The second is that the landscape of the flow arts world has changed dramatically in the
past two decades.
It's no longer practiced in isolated pockets but is now a worldwide network that embraces
people of many different backgrounds.
A huge reason why this has happened is that in many cases the work that we create with
our tools is created with the framework of a somewhat open source model of sharing.
Many people care more about getting the things they create to the eyeballs of people who
might like or learn from it far more than they care about how they might use it.
And this attitude has helped the community to grow.
So with all that said, I think in the realm of intellectual honesty it's really, really
hard to say that any one of us have invented something whole cloth.
The things we work on are frequently inspired by the work of others, whether it be other
peoples' tricks or unrelated natural or artistic achievements.
So claiming sole ownership of the products of said inspiration can be a little tricky.
That said, that's a problem of intellectual property in general.
At one point does a derivative work become something that's considered original enough
for the ownership of it to count?
Shaun White may be the only snowboarder in the world who can execute a double McTwist,
but that doesn't mean that any other snowboarders can be sued for learning the trick or even
using it in competition.
In a lot of ways that open source mentality not only creates an abundance of content for
people coming into the art to learn, but also becomes an incentive for people at the forefront
of it to continue to practice and hone their craft.
In order to stay relevant, you need to keep on updating your repertoire.
At the same time, it creates opportunities for exploitation.
Let's say you're an up-and-coming poi spinner who's created an exciting new move
that you can't wait to teach at the flow festivals.
Then you discover a more well-known spinner has picked up that move from your videos and
is offering classes in it themselves.
You might lose out on a chance to teach, despite the hard work you put into mastering your
craft.
Ouch.
Part of what brought this up for me was a conversation with a friend who is wrestling
with this very type of situation...made more acute by the fact that she's a woman and
the people snatching gigs from her are guys.
And this is one of those twists on the whole situation that definitely begs the question
of what do we do when people in a position of power exploit the work of people who are
not?
Is there any way to protect them without compromising a value that's a big factor in helping the
community grow?
So...my honest answer is that I don't know.
I'll say straight up that in my own opinion I've never invented a move.
Everything I've ever made videos on has been inspired by something I saw someone else
do or running an equation or tweaking variables.
I would not have access to any of those things had someone else not done the groundwork on
them.
Whenever possible, I try to credit the person I learned a trick from when I'm teaching
it.
That may not be the person who first performed it, but it's honoring not just the move
but the teacher, which to me is just as important.
And of course there have been glaring oversights because of this.
People I've either forgotten to credit or others who felt like they were entitled to
it.
The best I can say is that I'm sorry and I'm doing the best I can.
Part of the problem is that in general I think that enforcement of any kind of intellectual
property rights here is pretty difficult if not impossible.
I think that it's important that we have a culture of open sharing--it gives people
coming into this community room to grow and learn new things.
But I also think it's up to those of us who aggregate all this information to be responsible
with it.
I think for now that's the best we can do…
Thanks so much for watching.

JavaScript achievements of the Year 2017 and key Frontend's trends - Duration: 4:40.
Hi!
Let's talk about JavaScript achievements of the Year 2017 and key Frontend's trends.
I'm Anatol and you are watching the Good Parts of the Frontend development.
[Music playing]
Apparently the main achievement this year for the Front-end community is the Grid CSS
specification rollout.
Nowadays all major browsers support this feature.
CSS Grids live their lives in Chrome, Firefox and Opera.
In addition, Firefox has got a CSS Grid Inspector Tool - an excellent add-on to cope with the
Grid's complexity.
ES2017 (the 8th edition of the JavaScript Spec) was officially released and published
at the end of June by TC39.
JavaScript has been enhanced with new possibilities for Strings (like padStart and padEnd), Objects
(like values and entries), and more.
Nothing has been changed significantly, however, the third year in a row we're spectating
on the continuous JavaScript evolution and that makes sense.
Perhaps ES2017 async/await is the best thing that's ever happened to JavaScript.
You can write a cleaner code using it.
"Promises" cured the "callback hell".
But now no callbacks, no .then().
Just going to the next line.
It's worth mentioning that Node supports async/await out of the box.
This spring the Polymer version 2 was finally delivered with ES6 class-based syntax support.
It built on incredibly lightweight core.
It's not a matter of Polymer, but of Web Components under the hood.
The idea of the customized and extendable components is inspirational and can change
our development experience.
Node version 8 got into Long Term Support and its predecessor is off the game.
The release contains V8 with TurboFan and Ignition making JS code even faster.
Also NPM version 5 has been published!
This new npm version is a pretty big step forward.
It seems "yarn" pushes "npm" forward.
It's a win-win situation for the developer.
I think, it's a good start.
[Music playing]
Yarn version 1 point 0 has been kicked off.
Yarn has got the workplaces for mono-repositories, lockfile auto-merging and a better code performance.
To my mind Yarn won't be able to replace npm.
Nonetheless, the competitor delivered a good punch to the giant.
Just yesterday Webpack was upgraded to ver.2 and today the version 3 has been issued.
It includes Scope Hoisting, "Magic Comments", and an ability to pass chunk name as an inline
comment to your import() statement, etc.
But for me the most exciting thing is the promise to deliver Webpack in a faster and
more stable release cycle.
So, I'm looking forward to version 4.
Facebook introduced GraphQL.
It's a new API that provides a more efficient, powerful and flexible alternative to REST.
With GraphQL, each client can access precisely the data it needs.
One more news from Facebook.
After much thoughts this company relicensed React, Jest, Flow, and Immutable.js by MIT
license.
The previous license type was: BSD plus Facebook's patents.
That was a good choice to protect themselves from patent trolls, however the community
was still anxious about any potential legal conflict.
So they made a step toward the Open Source Software community.
The last point for today is "WebAssembly Support Now Shipping in All Major Browsers".
This is a pivotal moment in the Web while, unlike JavaScript, WebAssembly is a binary
format.
So its support makes to run a web application at a near-native speed possible.
It's not only about the games, but in general about a computer vision, language detection,
physical simulation, etc.
[Music playing]
If you like this video give it "thumbs up", share it with your friends, subscribe to the

Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!
