because resources industry and also the healthcare provider there is a place for
the patient and the patient's unique chronic severe pain control have access
to communication so you get the strength right now
easy to do but through the efforts of the Colorado consortium the prescription
drug prevention policy changes are being made to the
community of the Front Range Resources
we strongly support the use of additional money to major successful
these initiatives are being inspired and influenced to the fire and effort of all
the organizations and groups that are here today and together we are starting
to happen the measure makers are committed to
continuing with our existing efforts and to identify new solutions that make
recovery from evaluation not impossible so as we take off recovery ready
Colorado makers meter maid with your state and local elected officials that
solution
very much just to hear the commitment from our elected officials in terms of
this work so now we really hear from my palace our folks who do some of this
work and it reveals so we're gonna do a little bit transition here to get those
first set of panelists up front just reminder for folks we are doing the live
stream Facebook so that our folks right now who are watching online but there's
many more folks here today so with that said if you are sitting for this back
you're not why you need a camera you don't want to see and just keep in mind
your voice for instance a question for opening at
that point this is a lot so our bar area today
please introduce my familiar with young people recovering and - in London don't
us walk through our first set of panelists Jose may need a couple of
minutes to spit sure don't give us a few minutes yeah we're just gonna take a
couple minutes to drop a little video so give your video to look at this hold on
actually my block in anybody's fear
these are actually way Kirby started to record in 2011 and presiding over that
for
until aviation builder and I'm telling my hurt and I am a mother in recovery
from math and I also facilitate several errands regarding an animal is de Mouton
the founder of 5280 high school here a new charge oh love never public schools
next year and we have a program for States or I suppose Jesus earth started
recording 2011 because there's just evidence-based principles of this drug
for education and we've seen unfortunately we have people may be
struggling with addiction they're not an animal justice system but eventually we
see some and what I've seen in the past is just
not a positive way to deal with people with severe disorders program so we were
fortunate at Adams County and support on the Chief Justice of the state of
Colorado to actually create a drug court and with doing that we're helping people
and graduate and extend a business downtown and reconnecting with your
families and employee and so by using evidence-based principles in the program
we are our state court was just one of the first state courts in state in
Colorado to be accredited as a drug court in the state common so and that
was to justice Nancy Rises one of her achievements that
she mentioned at the Judicial Conference I just come back was she was proud for
the last year this is something has happened with one of the first ones in
the state but we can see through the course through judicial supervision
information super ability to group and interface protocols from treatment that
we can get these people through treatment and change her life from
someone who's living in a shed behind the house to now is working as a car and
mr. Mendez you know they just look quick notes who I'm actually a graduate is
congratulation so there's a tradition of insurance today I see it all
we have had people dying in our bathrooms from overdoses brilliant
energetic families so I think my message first is is president workplace the
universe you may not see it but it's there
I think urban edition sometimes in general are maybe the hardest at first
because even function and you know even smell alcohol
and pass for a while but please is your employer or for those of you know
Human Resources area be aware that it's there I miss it
it was the most it was these two men that passed away I need to get myself
before we focus it is there it's not going away and when uses that we have
people in recovery for the drug courts and so there's hope but it's going to
take attention and focus and energy I liked one thing lieutenant governor said
a grocer comments about blue we all have to stick together because this is a
thing to take that has many parts that need to work in coordination with each
other so it to each other light blue and these some progress shortly so I have
very deep in addition along with myself and my attitude of children and anybody
that I thought you might I can do this anybody can do it I use
math every day for six years but I use other drugs prior to that got into a lot
of trouble and managed to get out of it and now with my circle of parents birth
I facilitate we are really building the community in this work which is what
parents need parents have shovels in merits because there's only animal
intelligence heritage hired but when you're a parent and recovery you have
special struggles that you go through and uh something that we talked about
and you support each other is you struggling ways with being a parent of
an american recovery and you don't if you carry and everything that goes along
with that makes it even harder even harder to stay clean we all have really
bonded together and we bring new people in all the time and there's a great
great supporter before during and after thank you
you know I think this is my night there an education in high schools the whole
time and there's no doubt that there is a
serious problem with addiction on high school kids it's something that a lot of
people don't have to think about a little bit it's there if you had any
high school endeavor and any a meritocracy and I think the beauty is
that there are other schools out there and I'm in Denver there are other tools
recovery schools that are pioneering this effort and if you walk into those
schools within five minutes you can you can sense the magic you can feel the
success that we're having and early on in our design process maybe two years
ago I took some people from our team here some of them who are in recovery
some of them who didn't know anything about recovery we have a very diverse
team and visited a recovery high school and every single one of them left there
with the sense of possibility they can go there we can do an ember and it is
possible that are numerous numerous stories and you have to have to think
ottoman one by one is other people if you talk to these gates one by one doing
every stories and hopefully over time as these stories build up and we build the
circuit part of success and we'll create the title change these questions really
Melissa - specifically any resources that actually stand out to you guys for
the person we're heavily losing access to suitable house in fluent or
unfortunate to live in Boulder County which has very strong network of us work
for people it's all kinds of challenges so part of the issue is just educating
communicate with each other and with our employees about what is actually
available out there to members of the community Boulder County has been a
leader in this and the perfecter that graduated from that organization and I
do whatever it can to publicize and communicate the resources and
connections that are out there you can't make anybody to dream it you have to
work
and when they're ready they may need to be there and we need to be ready to jump
on it when someone presents a problem I need help I'm asking for it so as an
employer about this has to be very open and accepting and supportive and I think
if we can create and continue to have that atmosphere in our workplaces where
people aren't appreciated see just horrible about their situation and you
can create that accepting atmosphere that's the speaker for Denver and we
will be the first recovery program in Denver I think regarding the question of
access the number one thing for us is equity and we redesigned 50 to a high
school to be free and available to all students in different other schools and
that's very unusual in vegetables some sort of fee associated with this I think
that that is a primary concern video with youth and access being able to
access it no matter what zip code you're from what income level
your family has that that is crucial is where the
we're hoping to provide that access to all students in every resource
education you know I really wish that there were a lot more resources than
laughter actually are out there and I can tell you them for the first time
since I got clean I ventured out on my own with my children and was able to get
into my own place last year I was terrified because my criminal record and
because of my addiction that I was on any equity place which is what other
parents run into all the time it is so important for us to help these families
realize their leadership within themselves and that they are aware of it
and you really have to build that minute so that they can go out and try to get
the housing and try to get the employment I really feel like I'm
breaking barriers I am actually an employee after some time even though
services which I was old I could never be because of my criminal history and
I'm raking those areas for the people that are following behind me and also
the work that I'm doing at illuminating the circle erickson recovery I wanted to
help the parents and for them to not give up I have been fighting for years
to be able to do what it is that I do and it is very very tough
and I really think that we're all in position where we can give these parents
home and so we can really help them to be better for their children
thank you
that's the big the treatment providers
principles because you know judge's order people better treatment and so
that's what a part you know we monitor that that case initially which you love
it's not just sitting there worrying aides who is the treatments by they
provide evidence-based principles and structures and crater so that's what
we've been doing and and Adams a Medicaid from that people have been a
community and they've been an excellent perfect wonderful this kind of two parts
all right so the first one is why do you think recovery is important itself as an
employer recoveries important because stable confident safe attentive involved
workforce so when we do have people who are abusing alcohol or drugs
it really is in addition for us they index a lot of mine is a company
and that's all in addition to strategy so we need a very weird course what was
the second birth why do you think I why do you think recovery itself because
substance abuse is abuse to individuals and families to communities people that
have overdosed our bathrooms aren't terribly connected it wasn't but there's
somebody out there in the world a lot of time there's some of these children so
we have AB C as a community and you know employers are a big part of the
communities and most of us most of our waking hours at work I know I do so we
have back to pay attention to what's happening in workplace because that's
and again if we can maintain and create that open and accepting non Shaving
answer for people who are struggling that's a huge versa addiction is a
family disease disinfect the person that affects the entire field and
eyewitnesses of my daughter's who have to live in my addiction with me and then
grew up to become addicts themselves we are a part of this community and we need
to be able to believe that we can recover from the mass basis that we made
I once had a very very wonderful lady so many years ago that Tony
you're not a bad person means nice mattresses we can wear without and that
really is what helped me to gain that ability to myself to be able to believe
that I am worth it and I can recover and it like I said it's not just about us
being children and these children a lot of times grow up to the attics results
and then their children grow up to the eyes we have got to stop this cycle
recovery is so important and it is a community problem and we all really need
to band together and not legal and not judge people for vmax
I often tell people that when I was a little girl not once
when I grow up I'm ready for my children to be a terrible mother
that was not my plan my plans are offered to be somebody wonderful and now
I have some wonderful because I
and we all deserve to have that chance and we can do it all too often I hear
you're just about through your mathematics you can't do it I am doing
it and we can do it we just need people to believe us to do it it's not hard to
see the potential recovery hats when you're dealing with people who have
literally just started their lives and our decades ahead both economically we
think I'll bang for your buck stopping an additional element at an early age is
is over-the-top and professional to our society economically wise wise and wiser
like when you catch people you don't and you hope they learn everything very
early the impacts really are truly fundamental it's our society is what I
believe I think it's a minor shifting and how you look at it but if you forget
about the stings I found the jobs that you look at it like always recovery
during the day not was the solvents that prevent oh like what is the cream of the
table and people in recovery have gifts that we as a nation as a society would
benefit from how will recovery conflict how they reflect and improve
their lives on a daily basis how they engage with each other and in a
community level and support each other
aspects of recovery I mean it's important there's something true with
micro and we need to treat them so then they could go in the we are you know in
the alternate and we can see those is a it's a cost to society
it's a custody broken families and then the government has to get involved and
take away each other there's a cost to the employers and there's this cost and
this is the way that we can help shape I think is working together and we can
hopefully work towards that problem and one gentleman they graduate from my
program you get a hundred criminal entries in his on his run 100 it Adams
County along he looked at me when I graduated and he said I wish this
program
just went to B or C constant state running which the victims of offences
but now it's tragic and this claim thank you guys so much for participating in
this
conditions - yeah take a moment here there's gonna be able to show the video
ready to take about a ten-minute break we should return there are some
refreshments out this way you like my shoes involve about 10 minutes sharks in
the next
what do you think so far
right
excited
actually
it's your turn
are we ready
yes we do taken on the
geez really everything
so we're going to serve it a little bit for your next magnification we were to
look at this from influencers perspective thank you all very much for
those insights and because I even listen to each of these things and I think
about the work for this we informed we certainly have a lot of different areas
in addition we think about what community together to make some
improvement and so there's a plenty for this opportunity thinking about the
newspaper magazine and I want to be sure
Billy Madison from the consortium use prevention but now we're going to take a
different degree of magnification and really kind of take a look a little bit
more on the feet on the pulse of what's going on around recovery closer to the
ground is that we're headed yeah so Michael do you get rolling on this next
one
so this is our community leaders and so these are folks that are our helping us
get them were kind of local community perspective when they are here to
represent our literal boots on the ground and they are leaders within their
communities themselves on the frontlines of facing this substance use issue that
were that were facing currently so I will let you introduce yourselves
individually and we'll get started and we'll just
pass around the mic here my name is Marcela pikes women studies I
the owner and the therapist that idea formerly operated with formulations and
then were pregnant Lori hi I'm Albert sled I'm the director of offender
services intensive case management crossroads I'm also the founder of had
exactly and a recovering addict also conferred by the program director and
recoveries I already has Authority as well
i'm jonathan under a teacher Millburn High School in Grand County and helps
are they saw a recovery there three years ago a little bit closer I can say
hi well so my first question for you guys is pretty important because I think
that often times it's really really easy for us as a state to focus specifically
on the urban areas right Denver's official how do you guys think that will
enable more major engagement and the efforts or recovery
is across the state and not just Stanford well I think it's Colonel that
we recognize that that early in terms of rule and other parts of statement the
fact that every community is different or are as a population can be very
different from our network and a lot of
employment all of those areas can be very different so we need to ensure that
you know what communities were investing in develop the strategies specific to
those populations I think that's where it begins
definitely the communities and the reporters culturally specific services
or for all of the communities that we care about she said I actually think
that you know reading meetings like this down to those areas you know I'm linked
below a lot of times we are participating in in groups that do care
were participating services but the meetings and all picking officer of
endeavor I also think that we do some of these key costs and some of those
smaller areas like a little shame that wall summer all those areas that are
right outside of New Mexico that are having the same issues is the big city
issues right and they've also if we see engagement from our leaders especially
at the state level and we believe also that they care about us and that they
care about our community and it's not everywhere there obviously is one
perhaps more availability for services we would love to have those services
down there we would love to have community leaders meeting down there and
let us know that the families in those areas now that's were just as important
as as Denver I think a lot about my parents focus is really cool to be local
leadership so we chapter network across the state
of the nation to really develop advocates so we work a lot in employment
education and housing and close to any kind of those leadership skills so how
you talk about recovery so what is they're not very messaging in general
how do we have ourselves an employment and education and access the animal
housing opportunities I think it's really about making sure that and each
of these pieces we have little gears that really work to finish the game
wherever it is that they are and if you can only go around saying is that we
need to meet people where they aren't so we need to be in these communities on
the ground with them we can't be you know sitting in our chairs from Denver
saying memories to do we want even free from afar doesn't make sense so again I
think this will be mu leadership leaders to take action wherever they
come sees ghosts and put a and then somebody that other by that I had was
perhaps a regionally it's stable Springs where we might folks in recovery from
the Northwest Colorado and a network at that regional level could be very
helpful and robbed - amount for me what what's currently done annually or
the surrounding areas
so what we do is is I like to save as recovery education prevention right
that's what we're doing we're out there we have programs we're all working
together something that we say is leader low blood or crossroads isn't getting in
the way to health solutions isn't getting in way of another agency we're
doing the best services or the best client or meeting families where they
need to be met right so one thing that we're doing all those we have programs
like celebrate recovery where programs like addict
we have programs like health solutions crossroads offender programs programs
for parents programs for families right so one thing we're doing is we're trying
to get all aspects of recovery right and so we work well together leave your
little bit of the tour - oh sorry for the person to which our decline we don't
always have the answer across roads and other regions also don't always have the
answer the biggest problem that we have and I think I have a chance as a
recovery person to say is that nobody gets addicted to anything that excuse my
wounds nobody gets addicted anything that sucks right it always serves a
purpose in their life for us I think that that drug in the United States is
also a purpose problem don't speak of all sense of purpose of all sense of
intimacy and all sense of control and what we need to do as a community and
what we need to do is recovery educators and people overloading recovery has
helped them have that have helped them have that purpose and help them have
that intimacy and help them have that control over their lives we could give
them through recovery so biker I mentioned about reverse doctor Network
on my last answer but a lot of what we really you've done can create those
support services for people in recovery or seeking recovery is we need the hurt
mark where they are so you need them you know the justice
and we really work to bridge the gap between recovery communities and
treatment spaces or Court excuses that looks like so there's a rope gap in a
way to learn and support it in accessing our memory so our chopper networks in
our programs really serve to build rapport through life skills curriculums
through a lab although Henry meetings are chapters to the community on the
ground and we trying to do it across the state so that people aren't let alone we
need to treatment centers or they just assist American said hey I know this
person I might jar their chalk don't be here in Buffalo
I didn't start climbing them to see why there are more hungry unions are and how
we cast them I can get ride really work to bridge that gap by equal again where
they are and community jack your thoughts on what specifically happening
everybody say also how to bridge that gap the event things that work well for
our silver every we provide that safe place for people come in and share we're
not there all volunteers you're not there to fix anybody and we're all to be
close at work and so just providing that safe place and it becomes a family we
have a great connection with accountability partners and sponsors
some of our challenges when we have participants that that need additional
services that can and counsellors or mental health
services that are limited where we're at and especially getting them to those
additional services transportation in our counties is a big deal we don't have
a public transportation and so being help helping it people from their home
in hustle / ran late for winter park to a meeting to additional services that's
that's one of our bigger challenges thank you first to provide the services
that assist in understanding that there's a strong connection to the
prevention everybody has a role in it so we've certified 19 individuals to be
trauma informed care they're Thomas certified professionals because we know
that long-term about me already this morning what happened that's why I'm
using the news they were committed to that so that we understand it has to be
a long-term impact and it has to know so they're like president so that every
person and probably is a huge part of that it does serve those purposes as I
said it usually weekend this which I've heard it's a childhood development
disorder we we also then partner with a lot of individuals 50 Turia's are
leaving make contact with us we've talked to other individuals belong to
organizations because we know that it's so learned spread and we do it because
we're word white community so people that look like me I'm actually going to
direct this next question I have you start Mackenzie what are the words or
language using your area of influence to speak about recovery I specifically
asked this because we're in to make this more of a public health conversation and
less of anything else right so what your experience is important to convey in
terms the way that we message about substances in recovery
yeah so we focus a lot on our very message April for an individual with
substance use disorder as well as Asian we get large how we speak about things
you'll carry the most of us up here I already talked about you know people
with substance use disorders we focus so completely on person first language and
making sure that person individualists always recognized before
I need a screw you know they make them a fight back and so the thing is though I
think what goes beyond that is realizing language does not stick the technique so
again those are you focus on person first language but it's also breaking a
lot of students stigmas that exist around identifiers and really
recognizing this is a public health issue you know if we were to weigh
cancer then accessing treatment and then being a mentor our memories now question
anyone frame because that when they issue it should be treated the exact
same way let's talk about it as a disorder as what it is let's talk about
it by recognizing people first always and respecting how they identify
themselves I think that everyone has a choice in the way that they operate and
their sheets of recovery and how they access her memory
I think being respectful at multiple pathways of recovery is critical this is
my snapshot so let's do recycled the diversity that people experience within
well they're using treatment and recovery and I think the importance of
the language you that we reservable some of the same issues a lot of people don't
want to hang with those people US aid recovery and even though they may
be trapped behind that wall of Shaving campbellton so we we talk about
they do about addressing hurts habits and hangers and trying it that's that
statement of well it's just motion chorionic certain alcoholics and yes we
are we've got other things going on as well and so but it is an issue for us
the people in the door that kind of stigma yeah the term attic I would say
the only thing one abused and opiates right now is the word addict right I'm
addicted to servos I'm addicted to mention I think that we need to clarify
what addict means right and we also need to clarify with the tendencies because
people will associate medically assisted treatment with being addicted to
methadone being addicted to suboxone you have to change some that terminology so
that they understand dependency is depend on medicine right are you
becoming addicted to something when I behavior matches that dependency becomes
antisocial everything X 10.9 is when we talk to recovery I just wanted to say
this like you also have to be able to initiate that recovery is not abstinence
right recovery is when you're recovering the things you lost in addition or
recover in respect for recovering employment to recovering so many things
and as a smoker there are are are people in our communities they can not recover
unless they the support ire of people who forgave uh people who
helped sustain a living situation and so you know I just think that being clear
with educating those terms
well definitely the first range in their primary culture the one we don't begin
with using that language we begin using the language that's unfortunately
searched their face when you're doing properly care you will get strength so
we talk a lot of I mean yeah I hope because we know that it supports it so
it's really important that we begin with that language and then we move forward
with where they are in their lives one of our favorite things is certain routes
only tell you where you've been where you're going and so that's that's where
we begin it's it's what you did it's not who you are it's not what you are it is
important to be located right where they have I live entertaining I work in my
communities I don't have to go very far to Arlington dividuals important to
engage with us at one point in their lives or another whether you like it or
not hopefully one day I'm not going to be in
front of the judge but it's going to anyway if that's where I end up in the
social services new police officer when there's five the violence is a result of
drug abuse and I think it's also really important that we recognize that it
isn't just opiates in fact in my community rarely did it start there
there are a lot of great rugs language is one and not just to other groups
there's other behaviors I don't know how many times we've talked to individuals
who are their culture their language
well this month makes over three years is over I've seen a lot of miracles and
in a front row seat actually in Grant County is seeing a lot of miracles
it means it's order to be because it brings freedom and healing from our I
think they're also dysfunctional behaviors and Wow
it's ongoing process and you know and that brings us to another struggle
over at is we've got to be committed to recovery for the long haul and many of
us myself included repeated recovery for her life and that long haul is
presenting some challenges to us so
exactly who they are where they are regardless of status or identity in any
capacity and so I think that when we search and recognize people from a
strengths-based perspective as we should one how many percent of the time you and
empower people is self-directed lives and groups our economy and throughs
family lives and it's critical that's what we all want so why we want to
support initiatives to help bring about endeavour so to me the bottom line is
that we're all human it's like let's be human and less support that that looks
like for all of us recovery isn't one because there's a butterfly effect right
there's an effect when people recover they affect just like they affect people
when they're using the way you spoke earlier I saw other people they're in
recovery when we get sober leave okay I would like to thank my wife 9 and some
of the other speakers have made huge impacts in their community by being in
recovery and just like addiction affects a community so it is a recovery and so I
think recoveries important and everyone covering from something right and so
it's also important for the communities themselves to recover not just the
individuals but from their town itself to the cover and it's also anyway it's
important because it's family it's important because it's family and
regardless of the place it's in a community it's in a large metropolitan
area it's a family and everyone has that you need someone's son or daughter
someone's sister it's not much time this week alone at several individuals who
relapse on opiates like heroin for example and others pregnant mothers and
children it's heartbreaking I love the work that we do we're all committed
there's some counselors that work with a present yes we can it's one of the
reasons that we look at probably do because we don't run from the
individuals who work there our family that's what we see and it's important
because you either thanks all aspects of their lives including boundary lines
there's a huge correlation between substance abuse child abuse and and it
doesn't disturb me it's every community could see all ethnicities the LGBT
community so many who are working with substances recovery so the last question
is why we're all here specifically so Rob in your experience and the
challenges that you face in your community it's 100 percent education and
investment we need to educate everyone even the families not suffering with
addiction I'm not sure other communities out of it but I know input what we have
Facebook where we show the people who are affected by addiction and their EMS
said the police made right if you read the comments of those
are very negative in distraction off of our streets this guy deserves a bigger
bond this guy how dare you let it mount so fast or let her out so fast
we need to educate and get away from the Sigma and also like have people
understand that recovery is possible and not just every cover is possible but
that if it can happen to anyone at any time
you're just the circumstances just have to be the perfect storm for somebody to
get sucked into addiction so I think we just educate how people understand how
to understand what other families are going to also because I know people ever
now and I know they're mad and I know there was that and they're tired of the
crime and they're tired of seeing it but at the same time if we can educate them
to understand what some of those individuals are going through it can
understand that no one in their right minds do the things that had Stigler not
in our right minds I think for my respective excellent investment security
process Constable's a local individual level and kind of that large our state
reprimand national government level where it's kind of an information and
treatment based system in not a sense of treatment centers treatment in the sense
of our systems need to be fixed and shifted so if we put in a high level
perspective how do we create equitable access to housing employment and
education how do we start to entertain recruitment what does that look like how
do we educate people and empower to really shift systems out there
and so these people are experiencing some since you started families and
their communities can actually advocate for possible change so it gets cold
every team leadership from two levels and it's making sure that people are
educated you no longer every looks like a sustainable way and how to create
those systems to allow people to access that thank you um for us doing what we
say we're gonna do is is a big one so if we say we're gonna have a meeting every
Friday night we're gonna have a meeting every Friday night this year and then
next year and then next year and as all the term industry it's all and so
support from other verbs as we look to long-term recovery
if celebrate recovery isn't working out let's let's it's down to the any meeting
or to the next source or the next resources there's not a lot up there in
mountains and so I think just being committed to versus recovery long-term
is is where I feel we should be for recovery ready
embrace that means you you come to us media all of that is wonderful
it works it's gotta be in the community we do have probation on students they
come to idea doing with clients to investors what else can we do what else
do we get for this clinic so it has to be especially important for certain
cultures might be one to be in the culture don't be afraid because like I
said you'll be bracing you wanna wear the floor together if I'm using
substances in his best when it's a warming race rather than with handcuffs
rather than with myself but but I'd also say that it doesn't require a great deal
of money it's the last word I like to use but then almighty dollar it has to
be immediate it has to be alive I'm still waiting for a lot of the funding
than everybody but I'm still waiting for continent and level Mississippi in Salem
I'm fourth an image in Brandon Heath or me it's not leach those orders yet and
that's where it happens
we're 20 today specifically I saw from in the Moses idea of collaboration kind
of amongst people that we have on this panel everyone in this room specifically
and our opportunity as community members and leaders to come together to solve
problems not only in like the major Metro centers right which is where we
always hear about celebrity media and and start to brains in every single
corner of our state make some comments or ask questions on first whitening this
was purposeful the way that we planned this today we had to make a decision
around this particular approach do we go out into the community and get a big
auditorium and putting in lots of people we thought about that to hear that
message but then we thought you know really let's be more purposeful
particularly to start off with solid ground of commitment from some key
elected officials to say that this is important to get that message and that's
what we decided my history so it's like my history was one of the ways to get
this a little bit more broadly but certainly I think there's an opportunity
for us to think through the new workgroup is there a way to do this with
the community and to have the discussion then with employers with people recovery
with school folks in communities to discuss how are they getting recovery
ready so those are some things we're going to turn over to the new worker to
think through and you should know now that means make sure and look around the
room and make it and fall into this
we read revision in part this is where we were here close or we understand that
you volunteer to be a coach Ryan Jeff Davis everybody do business over here
another co-chair for this new worker so certainly if we were to fill out some
information you have a green sheet here get us some information or send us an
email that oze connects at COEX Co AG gov you on Facebook OCE
connects and Co and gov your each to be part of the 29q Mike there's different
ways to be involved certain things you wanna roll up your sleeves really get
into it there'll be a work room form generally those work produced meet about
every other month but there are options to participate by going to me and from a
distance you don't have to be in the metro area participate if you just want
to receive information and staying tuned that's another way you try the email
list in case you some content info but one of the things about connecting this
to the consortium is that and through the task force
response task force has three committees there's a substance those need for
insanity J whether it is one of the co-chairs here and dr. Catherine wells
is the other there's a native committee we look at data trends and then we have
the sorption as our prescription drug both yeow a group there's Jean over here
with the staff and if Michael here hurts Michael did he step out to my but the
consortium offers a framework for some support from staff to this work group
but in addition to that both of the task force and the consortium are connected
to a network of communities that are really stepping up to address opioid
crisis but also just subsidies in general and particularly the increase in
access to treatment so we have a network through the consortium to really expand
this discussion of recovery buddy out to those communities and get information
and may be glopping is that this is the least looks as well to involved in this
discussion so really the order to what we do in the
tender there that so then are there some comments from the
it's a bunch of questions here's something today that really resonated
with you something that message you were trusted you heard already or something
new that you didn't hear the terror you want to just introduce yourself maybe we
got a microphone trouble getting people's run around to microphone so
quickly but Terry be doing Corrections if they're living on the street
if they're the family that supports them where do they actually go next so what
is sober living doing for them what are some alternatives I know the treatment
centers with aren't enough we hear about it all the time there's not enough so
I'd like your perspective on where do we go in a national way this may be one of
those questions there's endless we gonna do you want one of the dresses in some
way but briefly but it is definitely a question to be asking our community so
what is there and I've ever gets to recovery ready collection recovery ready
community but anyone want a dress for commented on reserve Bronco
that's a great question right I know that you asked water so we're living way
sober living doing for these individuals in
that can be very difficult at speaker cross service across service we have an
intensive case management program and when those individuals come into sober
living we're also helping them through intensive case management client
services anything we help them with vocational rehab we help them get high
classes we help them get Medicaid transportation if that's what they need
there's also another solo by Christ light ministries which is working with
offenders the problem is and a lot of the time the
problem is about working history lack of of all of these you know so many crimes
on earth on their background I don't think that that happens that
sober-living I'm pretty sure that doesn't happen and I'm locked up right
but with us the intensive case management program that we've developed
and several other people in the state of intensive case management it's taking
care of those needs the problem is how do I identify those people how do we get
the walk through our door and they have to almost be in recovery in order to get
those services and so for us we try to we try to put it out there to him as
hi my name is Michelle Ryan and I'm also in recovery and I'm also in the business
of treating people for substance abuse disorder I think that what was missing
in this session was the fact that this is a brain disease not a moral failing
and I need bit more me that we need to that lead which needs to be spoken more
often and when we're talking about recovery I'm looking at you right now
I'm so so glad that were part of the panel I'm talking to the person in
recovery that's recovering from meth and her children I too am in recovery and I
have two sons that are also in recovery so it for me I could just tell you
personally that when I found out this was a brain disease and that wasn't a
moral failing it gave me hope and I think that that message needs to be
spread more widely and I would like to see me in the next panel a doctor of
addiction come and actually explain the science behind what addiction is in
brain
a lot of this work he said language trying to be talked about us that's
important for people understand tickly both both in silent someone who is
looking at facing this this issue personally but what about people so this
kind of language is really critical and that's certainly something we're
learning from folks were together
yeah I just would say that a lot of the comments that were shared just show the
importance of getting to people young and this is happening to people at
middle school and high school and our state and they have no one and that's
what's leading to just it sounds like to me just turns into a huge huge rolling
ball instead of addressing it right or a middle and high school which it sounds
like four out of five become addicted really started something in high school
so I appreciated all your involvement and whatever one chair yeah
and the other comes in touch
my name is Donnell Keith and americo said and she's campus there's been a
number of Republicans that are close within the state within last year how do
we specifically put pressure on those cities that were very successful in
recovery opened again I think that type of messaging to the public sense of
further statement people patients this is come up in our own the other
legislators wanting the same room substitutes we've heard this as well
both in terms of sleaze in clothes as well as the challenges and it's an
interesting issue because as we heard earlier that we didn't have beds
available but they're not being built there's something not quite working in
terms of the number of receive never fill up you don't even have been so
there he upsets we're at your point these are closing I don't even have that
access so yes we have some work but in the work to do but I have to say this
year last year and a half is which you know a galvanized effort for more
disciplines the testimonies that came in the university there's so many different
fields it's just a sounding how this problem to put the opioids is impacting
so many different parts of our society but it is an opportunity together not
supposed to look at the whole system this whole prevention treatment
treatment and then recovery as well so we thank you for the comment but it's
definitely something that we're going to keep working so my good introduce here
this is theme for the camera to the people want to back this assortment
it's ocean this will need to be the house in the home for comprendre covered
ready remember in Colorado so we're looking
forward to what the associative Network and the treasure do to help promote this
work and again a spirit for Marjorie general full support from this office to
continue to support them so good that we conclude this is that where few people
there really a lot of ever because we've been many planning this there were
several Facebook line events it's such a potential but several really key folks
certainly read in my office
in the mid century about how many photos do you think we're on the faces of the
folks that were watching right now and then we'll give you a sense of what the
reason so today we were reaching across the state we had hit about 39 different
areas within the state and we were at about 15,000 unique users that were
following us through Facebook so we were due to save the blog event for those
four or so about 15,000 the opposed to beuter our Facebook live around read
everybody call a lot of a process statement in the nation and so really
the basic looks pretty nice of the posted home from the planning but
mommy's men Thank You Molly for a
no this is the courtroom of people that and of course Justin was not able to
afford less here today some hoping to be here
alright so folks it's beginning and if you are in social media
Sammy this is gonna be posted somewhere recovery ready so please sheriff to get
it out with your networks and there's plenty of food in the it for this time
so there's food
