BTS THEORIES: DNA - Duration: 7:46.
BTS' comeback has come and we got DNA MV!
If a new MV was released, it's time for a new theory!
First of all, I wanna emphasize the fact that DNA is a MV based mostly on a choreography
Some of you can be sceptic while watching this video
Because I'm making a theory for something that basically doesn't have any theories
There are only some symbols which are connected with other MVs
I'm planning to tell you about it
But I noticed many things I didn't want to see during analysing this MV
They just exist so I'll tell you about it
If anyone doesn't want to watch this kind of video or doesn't want to ruin the MV with theories,
you don't have to watch this video! But if you're curious about the things I found there, let's start!
I will tell you again that Japanese Blood Sweat & Tears is a key to everything
Even though everyone thought at first that this MV is really chaotic
It relates to everything and everything relates to this MV
You will see how many connections between DNA and Japanese BST we can find
Let's start from the beginning - the universe we see is related to Serendipity
The difference is the fact that in Serendipity we got Jimin's eye and point of view,
And here it's Jungkook's
First of all, we hear a whistle related to Jungkook's short film, Begin
and also to First Love which is Suga's short film and those two videos were connected to each other
In this case, whistle was related to 'Demian'
Bad guy Kromer was whistling to call an innocent and good boy Sinclair
Always expected, yet horribly surprising each time--from somewhere Kromer's whistle would erupt, destroying the game, crushing my illusions
Then I would have to leave the garden to follow my tormentor to wicked, ugly places [...]
Let's look at the fact that till now BTS' concept was mostly about the passing youth and sin which lets us get to know the other side of the world
A container is such a popular motive in BTS' MVs
We saw it in INU, we saw it in RUN
Everything started when Rap Monster opened the container
We also saw it in Reflection and MAMA
We should analyse it again because it can mean two things
First of all, BTS' youth can be trapped inside of it
Or youth in general can be there
It can also be a Pandora Box, after opening it, the evil is free just like we saw in Run
There is a scene in DNA where V is going inside a container
The door is open and he walks in
The walls and the ceiling are a proof for that
We see colorful marks in the background
it reminds us of Japanese Blood Sweat & Tears
We also saw a colorful background there and also a city view
After looking at this wall, we understand that it's Rorschach's test
A psychological test about subjects' perceptions of inkblots and in which we can find out about subject's personality and mental disorders
Jimin did the same test in LIE
This wall is similar to one of the cards and also the colors are the same
V's move looks like a possesion or madness
And we saw this kind of situation in both Korean and Japanese BST
Remember that J-Hope's solitary was also a container
And if we see Rorschach test here which is a psychological test,
We can say that it's a mental hospital
There is one more thing - we know that everything is in Jungkook's point of view so the question is: is he the one with mental disorder?
V's hand move also seems like a proof that everything happens in a mental hospital
V changes to J-Hope and the choreography also looks like madness
and we saw a similar one in Boy Meets Evil
Jungkook and V seem connected to each other
They dance together, they have many scenes together and they showed like a contrastive pair
V again, just like in Blood Sweat & Tears, seems the mad and evil one
Jungkook slowly comes to his side and this is why they do a high five at the end of one scene
We also see a black hole and it is known that one something gets into the black hole, it never comes back
If BTS gets into this black hole (maybe the black hole symbolizes sin), there is no turning back
Let's look at the move which looks like a genetic code
It looks similar to infinity symbol
And the lyrics fit perfectly
We are together forever
Forever = infinity
If we talk about the lyrics, BTS emphasize the connection via DNA
It relates to ARMY because BTS treats them as a family and they'll be together forever
We can find a psychological aspect in the following part:
Everytime I see her, I freak out
Let's get back to the MV because we see a similar scene to the one from Spring Day
But BTS was sad there and here they're happy
Jin suddenly gets up and runs and we see a yellow ball on the floor
It is probably the sam ball that Jimin pushed in Serendipity
There is another scene similar to the one from Japanese BST
Jin is standing on the edge of the universe
Another scene which is an explosion also relates to this MV
V was shown with Jungkook at first and now he is with Jimin
Jimin's scenes relate to Serendipity and the Little Prince, loneliness and watching his planet
Jimin was also in a mental hospital in Lie
It makes sense if we thing of what I said ealier
V is standing in the centre of the room and we see a move of light on the walls
It has a reference in two more scenes:
First of all, a scene in Lie where the fabric was moving
Second of all, Boy Meets Evil and a similar scene
But it was related to a train
A train relates to Spring Day where the whole plot was in a train
and each member was leaving Omelas
But let's pay attention at another part of the lyrics
Don't look back
Cuz we're the ones who found the destiny
Don't regret it baby
Because we're together
Forever
Jin said many times that he wants to turn back time and repair the past
and he wonders if this would bring happiness for him
V is all alone so it seems like everything happened because of him
Because of the murder and the fact that he tried to commit suicide
We take another lesson from this part of the lyrics:
We shouldn't look back and we shouldn't regret anything
Because we're together and it is all that matters
We hear a sound of loading the gun for a moment and Jimin makes a move which looks like shooting
Maybe he fights his destiny
The ceiling moves up and it shows a moon,
A moon symbolize a feminine aspect and in this case it will symbolize ARMY
BTS is standing under a big planet and it has their reflection
We already saw V's scenes with the planets
Of course, it's a reference to the Little Prince and BTS will symbolize the 7 planets - 7 different world and 7 different personalities
DNA shows that BTS is together forever and it's their destiny
However, the mental hospital and the psychological test can possibly mean that everything happens in a head of one of them
Or maybe something happened that put BTS in a deep trauma
It is all about the DNA theory and analysis,
everyone says that it doesn't have any theory but I know that it has a lot of hidden symbols
I described them all and I hope you liked it

- So I'm finally going to Whistler, the mecca of
mountain biking.
I'm making the pilgrimage to one of the most famous
riding spots on the planet.
This is my chance to shine at Whistler Crankworx!
I'm gonna be getting involved, soaking up the atmosphere,
racing, hanging out with pros and legendary trails
like Blue Velvet!
Crank it up, A line and B line.
Actually, Blue Velvet's just down here.
They're all within my grasp, Blake!
We're nearly there. - Let's go.
- Let's get a bus.
- Oh yeah, let's go this way.
Bus is this way. - That way.
- Okay.
I knew this was gonna be a mission.
And I want to make sure you guys see how hard it
was to achieve, how many people it took,
all my friends help, the fun we had, the scary moments,
the bits that went wrong, the bits that went right,
and the bits I'll remember for the rest of my life.
I want to show you it all and make sure you see what
Whistler meant to me 'cause it was amazing.
- [Blake] Mr. Ashton has arrived.
His majesty's arrived.
There he is, there's his chariot.

I am tired, that was a long flight.
But it was very comfortable, it was cool,
all of us a little group watched some movies.
Now we're on the road to Whistler,
we're gonna stop at Squamish for some food.
Bikes are in the trailers behind us,
apparently all the trails are on fire so we've
set them alight already.
But it's made it a bit smokey out the back there,
but apparently there's a really lovely view.
Can't quite see it.
Everyone keeps telling me it's lovely.
I feel like it was seeing the bike getting built up
is where I really started to get excited because
Gareth was putting it together, actually hadn't seen
the bike for a little while.
And I don't know if you've seen it, but it's a beauty.
So just made it up to where all the other boys are
hanging out, I've been at the hotel,
I've had a coffee and look who I found,
it's the whole team.
Look at them all.
Looking glorious.
They've got a lovely pad and some nice bikes.
-We've got a hot tub just down there.
Get you in that later.
- [Martyn] I'm not getting in a hot tub with you, dude.
- [Blake] Why not, eh?
- My man, Gareth's getting me bike out.
Oh look!
I cannot wait to ride that bike.
How precise is Gareth? Look he's wrapped it all up, he's got labels on.

- [Blake] No, I haven't, no.

- [Blake] I haven't got a name on my pedals.

- Okay I just woke up.
Today I'm gonna ride in on the hill at Whistler.
I'm pretty nervous.
Nervous and a bit scared, actually.
I was watching some of the people come down the trail
yesterday and it doesn't look like there's much grip,
which is a bit worrying.
My hair looks crazy.
But I think I'm just gonna have to stay within my
comfort zone today and stay rubber side down,
as they say.
I'm gonna get ready.
So guys, come and have a look at this.
Look over in the background there.
Gareth and Pete from Fox are working on my bike,
they're about to put, and these are the words they used,
"top pro only" lowers on my front Fox 40s
in orange, pro orange.
It's gonna look amazing.
What would your average rider have to do to get these?
- Win the podium, get on the podium.
Get a podium on the EWS.
- So how am I getting them?
Actually, I won for William, I did, kind of.
The grin says it, have a look.
(laughter)

That was a gulp of nerves right then,
I don't know if you caught it.
Keeps rising up in me now and again like whoa.
Gonna go riding bikes, can't wait.
I feel, actually, pretty relieved now more than nervous.
- That you're finally--?
- I just want to get on with it.
I'm pretty scared.
I'm kinda scared.
- That's natural, that's a good thing.

Getting over confident, that's when I always make mistakes.

Oh, it's freezing.
I'm actually going home now, I don't like it.
I changed my mind.

So this is what's happened, okay?
I'm at the top of, I'm nearly at the top of the world
of Whistler Bike Park, I'm pretty nervous.
But I can tell they're pretty nervous too so I think
they really want it to go well.
There's a really funny vibe going on,
there's lots of very nervous laughing,
but I'm gonna go and do it, this is it,
I'm finally getting it, I'm gonna do Whistler.
I'll tell you, I was in my element 'cause I was
just thinking the whole time down,
"I'm actually riding Whistler."
Which is amazing, it sounds so simple, but I promise you
to get me to Canada on a bike that I can ride,
which has been specially built with a team
of people that understand all the things that I need,
just to be able to do this, it's mad.
And doing it was wild, I think the only word I could
use was wild.
It felt like we were breaking the law.
(upbeat music)
[Doddy] - Yeah Mart!
[Doddy] - So good!
Yes! Yes!
First bit done!
[Doddy] - Dude that was amazing.
[Blake] Welcome to Whistler Martyn!
[Martyn] - Wind in the hair,
it's so good.

[Doddy] That was the coolest thing I've ever seen!
[Doddy] - That was just some of the coolest... [Martyn] - Yes!

- [Doddy] Whoa, I've got you.
- So it wasn't without it's moments,
ended up in that ditch, but Blake I could've ridden
that out, I'm positive.
I guess it rang the alarm bells, it shows you how
quickly it can go wrong.
Maybe I needed a little moment.
Followed that trail down, crank it up,
it was amazing, got to the bottom, high five heaven.
(upbeat music)
Sorry Gareth, we were all so stoked on riding Whistler,
but the big stuff was to come.
I still had to practice A line and I still had to
race the Fox Air DH, the big race at Whistler
Crankworx and I was determined to be part of it.
But it wasn't gonna be easy, actually.
I had to prove I could kind of ride the trail.
A line, the most famous bike park trail on the planet
and it starts with a bit of a drop off, basically.
I haven't done any drop offs like that on my bike before
so it was gonna be a bit of a tester.
Got to be honest, the guys were keen about me
doing this drop.
I think I just go, just ride off it, it's fine.
Yeah, but I'm gonna be going zzzzoop, straight off it.
- Sure about this, Mart? - No.
Yeah, it'll be fine.
I can do that, let's do that.
Come on, we can do this.
Come on lads, we can do this, we've got to try some stuff.
Yeah, let's go.
And we sent it off there, it was perfect.
That drop was almost designed for my bike.
It skimmed off there no problem, thank goodness.
The track was crazy, the jumps are insane.
Tried some of them, the moment I got a little bit
confident, the old buck came out and gave me a bit
of a kick in the back side.
My seated position means that every time I go up
a take off it just kicks like a donkey.
I basically go back real high on every jump so I have
to be really careful.
There's only a few step up jumps that work okay for it.
Whistler, kind of famous for it's jumps so I was a
little bit nervous and full of trepidation of riding
that course.
Yeah, I'm not there to clear every jump,
I'm there to get down the trail, I want to get down
the race course and say that I raced in an international
event.
(upbeat music)
- That's your number, there's my number.
- We're both the same number.
Am I racing Air DH then?
So we're in.
Funny moment, doing the Dirt Shed Show,
getting on with our business, then we realise the start
time for Fox Air DH, the race we've travelled all
the way to Canada for is upcoming and we've pushed it
a little bit tight.
So we send Blake one way, Gareth the other to get
the bike, they meet, try to find a battery,
we can't find one.
I'm rushing down frantically, they're following up
behind, we get to the start hut--
Come on Blake!

- Practise at 5:30 today.
- The race is tomorrow?
- Yeah.
There's the practise race right now.
- Oh.
We're a day early.
Phew.
So it turns out Fox Air DH is tomorrow.
We're good.
Look how knackered they look.
- Oh man.

- Today is serious, I'm competing in the Fox Air DH
downhill, not a Fort Williams style video where we
pretend what it would be like if a disabled athlete
took part in a race and I get to ride into that finish
line area for real racing.
I can't believe I'm doing it.
Gonna be amazing, I'm racing at Crank Works for real.
(upbeat music)
Bit of last minute prep going on by Gareth.
Pump that shock up, dude.
He's a good lad, isn't he.

- Just like my child is going out into the wilderness
on his own and I'm nervous.

The excitement of getting to the bottom and being
interviewed just like a racer from some downhill that
I've watched on the TV, I come off of the finish line
and there's people there who have literally travelled
to see me race 'cause they've seen on social media
that I'm taking it on.
It was amazing.
Such a good feeling.
- You've done it.
- A line, yes.
(upbeat music)
When I think of Whistler Crankworx, one of the most
memorable and iconic events is the Whip Off World Champs.
Really hard to get to, but me and Gareth were determined
to join the team there and watch.
I'm trying to get to Whip Off, we found out in the wheel
chair that we're on an incredibly steep mountain
and I can't get there, we're about to fall out.
So Gareth and Dave our best friend that we've just met.
Look at Dave he's like a mountain.
It's gonna be fine.
[Dave] - Let's get this going, let's get it going.
- Well we made it.
We got down the mountain, we made it to Whip Off,
it's actually happening right behind us.
Thank goodness for that.
But look at that mountain we just got down.
That was insane.
Dude, we could've planned that better.
[Gareth] - (laughter)...Could've.
- The jumps these guys do are so crazy,
they push it so far trying to get as much style
and amplitude and to try and win.
This event, basically, is just a bit of fun but has
become one of the most special moments of the event.
It's really spontaneous, it feels really free,
it feels really real.
I loved it, I loved seeing these guys just go for it.
I even got a buggie ride down, which was super cool.
So I'd done what I'd gone there to achieve.
But I couldn't go all the way to Canada and not ride
some North Shore.
(upbeat music)
Going out for a day of North Shore at a place called
River Runs Through It.
Bike's just going on the back of an epic Chevy van.
Looks so cool.
We're gonna have some fun today.
(mumbling)
(laughter)
[Blake] - I was like, why are you so heavy this morning?
Too much vegan food.
- It's a lot of helmets, that's a lot of helmet.
Mate, watch this.
Did that make it more difficult?
[Blake] - A little bit. - Oh I'm sorry.
(upbeat music)
What does the trip mean? I don't know.
When I arrived at this event they gave me my pass.
Usually I get a pass these days and it's like
a disability badge or something like that.
This one says athlete at Crankworx Whistler and
it's got my name on it.
That means that the people here looked at me like
anyone else and was like, "Well he's riding and we're
"gonna make sure he had a good time and has a chance
"to race," which they did.
And I raced!
I came here and raced.
This is cool but the thing that really comes out
every time I ride my bike is that I really do need to be
helped by my friends.
That was so evident this time.
Today, I don't know how many times Blake ran back and
caught me when I was about to lose my balance.
I think it's about team work and friends, comradery
is maybe the word.
I feel like we all feel like we achieve something
when we get a good shot of me riding,
it's not just me riding my bike.
Last time I rode was at Fort William and we kind of
pretended that I went to an international race
and took part.
This pass proves that I can really do that.
I'm really proud of that.
I really am proud of that.
Athlete.
I haven't felt like being an athlete for a long time.
And then comradery, just making things work with
your friends.
And that's what, for me, going out and about
with your mountain bike means.
It's going out with your friends.

Lesson number 1.
When in difficult country, do not encamp.
In country where high roads intersect, join hands with your allies.
Do not linger in dangerously isolated positions.
In hemmed-in situations, you must resort to stratagem.
In desperate position, you must fight.
A Roman Consul once led his army into the enemy territory of Liguria.
As soon as he had established a camp, some ambassadors came to see him with an offer
of peace.
In reality, these men were spies and after they agreed to surrender, instead the Ligurians
returned a few days later in great number, attacking every gate of the Roman camp at

Do not stay in a dangerous place for too long.
If you are in a particularly vulnerable position, it gives the enemy a greater opportunity to
find and attack you.
In business, being stagnant allows competitors to push you out.
Lesson number 2.
There are roads which must not be followed, armies which must be not attacked, towns which
must not be besieged, positions which must not be contested, commands of the sovereign
which must not be obeyed.
The French Marshal General of the seventeenth century, Turenne was considered by Napoleon
as one of warfare's "Great Captains".
He once said: "It is a great mistake to waste men in taking a town when the same expenditure
of soldiers will gain a province."
Don't fight battles you can't win.
As well as missing out on victory, you will also lose the opportunity to succeed elsewhere.
Show patience until a better opportunity can be created or emerges.
It may take more courage, but can prevent catastrophes.
Lesson number 3.
The general who thoroughly understands the advantages that accompany variation of tactics
knows how to handle his troops.
The Duke of Wellington was a master tactician who avoided high-risk moves and dramatic victories.
He knew his tactics intimately and was aware when to use them and just as importantly,
when not to use them.
Wellington cared about his men and conserved his troops.
After several victorious battles against the French, he refused to pursue the remainder
of the French forces over rough terrain as he knew there would be a cost to his own army.
Knowing tactics and techniques is not enough.
You need to know when to use them.
Skill is required to match the tactics to the situation and how to combine them.
In business, a great strategy is useless if you can't translate it into a solid but
flexible execution.
Lesson number 4.
So, the student of war who is unversed in the art of war of varying his plans, even
though he be acquainted with the Five Advantages, will fail to make the best use of his men.
General Patton's last assignment in the US Army was to compile a history of the Second
World War in Europe.
He explained to a journalist, the role was "right down my alley because I have been
a student of war since I was about seven years old."
His study of military history was central to his actions on the battlefield earlier
in his career.
He wrote several articles on warfare, using historical examples to answer current problems.
There are two ways to learn tactics: from personal experience or from history.
The best leaders are accomplished practitioners and ongoing students.
This allows you to learn what will work even before you've used it.
Lesson number 5.
Hence in the wise leader's plans, considerations of advantage and of disadvantage will be blended
together.
In the American War of Independence, America was unfamiliar territory for the British.
It's large size made it difficult to conquer and hold territory, which proved a disadvantage
for them and an advantage for their local opponents.
Conversely, the British had an advantage in that they outnumbered the Americans in most
battles.
Superiority is a two-sided coin.
When you have the advantage, the other side is disadvantaged and vice versa.
At any one time, you can have both advantage and disadvantage.
Your plans and actions need to take them both into account.
Lesson number 6.
If, in the midst of difficulties we are always ready to seize an advantage, we may extricate
ourselves from misfortune.
In 1415, Henry V's English army marched across northern France and was confronted
by a larger French force under Charles d'Albret.
The French only needed to block the route to English-held territory as the English were
low on food and were suffering from the cold weather.
However, when Henry's men advanced shouting and flying flags, d'Albret took it as an insult
and a challenge.
He decided to attack and lead his men across a field of mud in the heavy rain.
The French soldiers slipped and fell, making themselves sitting targets for archers.
Thousands of Frenchmen were killed or taken prisoner, while the English lost only a few
men.
Ahead of you lies advantage and disadvantage, depending on the path you take.
Pay close attention to these and you'll have the chance to snatch the moments of advantage.
Businesses go through times of advantage and disadvantage, but don't assume these times
will continue.
Use your knowledge to plan ahead.
Lesson number 7.
The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but
on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather
on the fact that we have made our position unassailable.
Constantine the Great founded the city of Constantinople which became the capital of
the Roman Empire.
It was built with huge, complicated defences which made it impenetrable to an attack for

Giant stone walls surrounded the city and over the years they were built upon to create

The walls protected the city from being besieged by land or sea with hundreds of manned towers
able to fight off invaders.
You can win any battle as long as you always defend successfully.
Always being ready to take on opponents is the best strategy to help achieve this.
Lesson number 8.
There are five dangerous faults which may affect a general:
(a) Recklessness, which leads to destruction
Julius Caesar's ambition was so compulsive that it lead to his self-destruction.
He gambled recklessly when it came to politics and his ruthless ambition led to him installing
himself as dictator.
After refusing to step down, members of the senate grew angry and fearful of his constant
demands for greater power and they assassinated him.
Avoid recklessness by not reacting or making decisions based on dangerous emotions such
as anger.
Instead use facts and knowledge.
(b) Cowardice, which leads to capture
The Roman Emperor Commodus installed a former slave Cleander as a senior official and commander.
After a famine had occurred, a mob of people blamed Cleander for the food shortage.
He went to Commodus for protection, but the Emperor was a coward and became terrified.
Instead, Commodus had Cleander killed.
The Emperor's behaviour led to him being assassinated himself, two years later.
In a battle you have to make decisions.
If you decide not to fight even though it is necessary, you will not only lose the war,
but do so in a shameful and dishonorable way.

How I produced my song, the whole process

RECORDING
You spent days and days on working on your song
You composed and arranged it, you polished every single detail

So you want to record it now, and you grab ...
Your smartphone
Well, yeah, it's faster, easier, and cheaper
But something's wrong with it
It won't record your masterpiece with the fidelity it deserves
It's essential if you want to communicate all the emotions you put into your song
On the other hand, there's studios
But it's VERY expensive and generally one cannot afford it
What I want to show you in this video
is how I make all my records at a reasonable cost
In my studio-bedroom
I'll show you that it's not a matter of gear
What's central is how you use it
And how well you know it
Here we are in my studio
Where I spent most of my time
Welcome! Let me take you through a quick visit
Into these 12 square meters
Where I tried to optimize everything
for gaining space
First, this is the recording place
The larger space in the room in fact
Where I sit with my guitars and microphones
Or record my vocal tracks
I use the center of the room for recording my tracks
because it's the place where there are less sound reflections and reverberation
Which means a better and clearer sound in the tracks
This is my Fender Telecaster, amazing instrument
An electric guitar from 1992
Then the other guitars over there
A classical guitar, a bass guitar, and my old electric guitar
My drumkit
My acoustic guitar
And of course the amplifiers
Here's my Vox AC15, a tube amplifier
My favourite amp in fact
You may wonder what a tube amplifier is
Tubes are an amplification technology
That sounds warmer in my opinion
than transistors
That's it for technical details friends
Now let's move to my working place
The place where I spend the most of my time
Sitting right here
Looking at this computer
My two monitors for listening to my mixes
A bit of decoration, in order to feel at home
And then very convenient, the second screen
It's so easier to work with it
A video editing in process, as you can see
The mixing console and audio interface
the core of this studio
that allow me to plug in all my microphones
and record in multitrack, when I need to record with several microphones at the same time
This is another important piece of equipment
my tape recorder, a very old device
from 1982
Just like those who where used for recording bands in the early days
They wouldn't record with computers, but on tape
Maybe you still can remember this
I simply love that sound
This really has a different tone, much warmer than recording on a computer
And more pleasant to hear
That's why I just love it
Okay, now we have a song to record
"Joy of Life" is waiting for us to be recorded
Let's see how !
What to begin with ?
When you're alone for recording, it's not very convenient
You just can't record all the instruments at the same time
So the first thing to do is to choose the right order to record them
The most important to choose is your first instrument
Which will be the basis of the song
regarding time and tempo
On "Joy of Life", I choosed to record first the rythm guitar
This instrument plays during the whole song, so it can fix tempo very well
After having recorded this basis, let's move on to the other instruments
One by one
Beginning with the percussions, that are central in this song
For giving a lightweight feeling to the song
Then the bass guitar, which helps support the whole song
Because acoustics songs always lack of bass
So the bass guitar, which has a hard attack
will bring some punch to the song
At last, when all those were recorded
We can move on to the lead instruments
Like vocals, background vocals, and lead guitar
Let's go back to my studio
To discover how I record my tracks
Let's begin with the acoustic guitar !
On this song, I wanted the acoustic guitar to sound as natural as possible
As if the guitarist were in the same room than you, in the same party
First things first, how do we use it?
And how does it work?
This is a microphone boasting a cardioid pattern
His directivity pattern has the shape of a heart
It is sensitive to all what's going on in front of it
And rejects everything coming from its back
As I said before, I wanted my acoustic guitar to sound very natural
In wanted to reproduce the human ears
using two microphones
It is as simple as setting them up like this
The first one listening to the left
The second one listening to the right
That will create a very realistic stereophonic reproduction
of the guitar, placed right in the middle
This is called an XY pattern
Not too close, otherwise it would sound artificial
And not too far as well, otherwise it would be sensitive to parasitic noises
Let's plug the guitar now
And see how I record my electric guitars
Recording electric guitars
It's time for cosy atmosphere
We're not trying to get a natural tone any more
Now we want a very punchy and aggressive guitar
More powerful
Maybe you didn't pay attention before
But behind this protection, there's a big loudspeaker
I like to put the microphone right in front of the amp
That will give punch, and a sensation of closeness
I like to add a second microphone as well
But this one is dedicated to pick up the lower frequencies, aka the bass
And it will pick up the room too, and its reverberation
Which will help bringing the amp back in a more realistic acoustic context
Blending
A first mic for the punch and the proximity
And a second one for more bass and depth
Then I just have to blend those two mics together
And find the right balance between them
The vocal tracks
For vocals, I like to use a static condenser microphone
Which is way more sensitive
Because human voice contains lots of...
Like tiny breathings or twitches
Avoid to walk where it cracks
For vocals you have two solutions
Either you sing very close to the mic
And you have a voice full of bass and presence
As if someone where talking to you very closely
Or you have a more open feeling, with more reverberation
And I precisely used this kind of miking in Joy of Life
To give my vocal tracks some more space
An anti-pop filter
We did it !
