3 Indoor Bike Trainer Workout Benefits - Duration: 8:31.
- You know the biggest and most important for us,
age group triathletes, is how efficient.
(upbeat instrumental music)
That was hot.
(upbeat instrumental music)
How to break Taren's brain in 37 simple steps.
(upbeat instrumental music)
Morning trainiacs.
One thing that I learned while at,
learned while at Interbike last week,
is how big a trend it is
with triathletes, road cyclists, even mountain bikers,
getting off the road and doing a huge majority
of their training indoors on a trainer.
There's a few reason for that
that they told me about last week
that I am actually experiencing right now.
You know the biggest and most important for us
age group triathletes is how efficient
time spent on an indoor trainer is
because you can hit basically, like for example today
I want to do a 10 minute interval at 240 watts.
It's not like I've got hills and stop signs
and wind and cars that are going to break up
that 10 minutes.
I can hit that 10 minutes exactly
and the entire 10 minutes is going to be really purposeful.
Not so easy when you're on the road
and you've got to deal with the usual things
that happen out on the road that you can't control.
I hate this blue tire by the way.
It just signifies pain.
Now in addition to that, the time itself
before and after, like the entire ride time,
is also more efficient
because I'm not spending as much time getting ready
to deal with weather, to deal with being safe,
having all the gear necessary to repair my bike
out on the road, phone home, support fellow riders.
There's just a heck of a lot less gear
that I need to be getting together,
I mean besides now,
but typically a lot of people in the winter
will just set up one stationary bike,
leave it set up, and then all I have to do
is put on a pair of bike shorts,
get all your nutrition off to the side, and go,
so it's easier for you to get in longer workouts,
say before work or in the evening.
Finally the specificity that you can achieve
with a workout, now with these new trainers,
since what I learned at Interbike is possible,
is completely unmatched.
You can basically do the exact race
that you're training for on a trainer.
Yeah, so with all of these smart trainers,
you could basically ride your exact course,
the Wahoo KICKR paired with the climb.
You can basically go along with the exact grade
in real time of what your course is going to be.
The TacX NEO, you can feel road vibrations
if you're on cobbles or gravel,
apparently you can feel that.
And the Cyclops Hammer actually pairs with the Zwift
and in real time adjusts your tension.
So like let's say for example right now
I'm training in Winnipeg, pancake flat, outside,
but the Austin course that I'm going to be doing
on October 29th is really hilly.
I can go and take a GPS file from that Austin course
and if I were to go on one of those smart trainers,
I can basically be doing that course
over and over and over, and when we start getting
that specificity narrowed down
in the last two months before a race,
that is immensely powerful.
It's good stuff.
I got to train.
Unfortunately I don't yet have one of those smart trainers.
Someday soon.
Hit me up, smart trainer companies.
(upbeat instrumental music)
That was hot.
One of the unexpected downsides to
being on YouTube and creating so much video is that
I just murder SD cards, external hard drives.
We're cranking it up a notch today
because external hard drives can't keep up with me folks.
Server.
As described, just bought a
good bit of storage.
Alright, how to break Taren's brain in 37 simple steps.
Number one, buy a computer server.
Number two, tell Taren that he has to set up
said computer server.
You want to know what these are for?
They told me I needed four.
(upbeat instrumental music)
This one page has all the instructions I get.
This is worse than Ikea.
(upbeat instrumental music)
Yes.
(upbeat instrumental music)
Okay, so just two short hours later,
I've got this thing going on overdrive
and apparently it's all set up properly.
Yeah see the issue is that part of what I like
about this whole daily vlog thing is
that I get to look back on months, years,
however long I end up doing this vlog for,
worth of footage, and I want to keep it,
so the downside to that is like every vlog
has somewhere around, a small one is about 15 gigs
worth of footage, a large one about 50 gigs
worth of footage, and we just chew through memory,
so here I am chewing through memory
on like a drive here, a drive there,
and then Mel being over like five blocks that way,
we're like trading footage here and there,
and then oh, god forbid the footage she needs is on here,
and she's over there and it's here,
so now the idea is that with this server,
it's a heck of a lot easier for us to,
you know, go back and forth with all the footage
that we need, and as we start traveling more,
covering more shows that are away,
conventions, races, things like that,
it's going to be easier for me to just log in
from a hotel room and be like boom,
there's everything that I need for Tri Taren.
It's all so foreign to me.
I think like three years ago I did not even know
how to make a video on a smart phone.
How's that for putting it into perspective?
I hope I did this right, I hope I did this right.

What We Eat in a Day | Vegan Van Life | Eamon & Bec - Duration: 12:52.
today we're gonna show you what we eat in a day we're doing this video for two
reasons prove to the people to prove to that
people that you can epic meals when you live in a van and when you're vegan we've actually got all the
ingredients for tofu scramble lots of fresh veg so probably throw a pepper in
there I've actually got these portabellos I
might chuck one of those in that some spinach for sure a hint guys we're going
all out this morning look this we got the field rose sausages these are amaze
and apple-smoked sage this is a great little tip for cooking guys my brother
who's a chef taught me this but is using a bowl for compost really helps clean up
your area while you're cooking don't worry that one's great
you're so free including free I said enough is just enough we are trying to
make it to t Bay no we're not going to our thing oh right
Thunder Bay which is nine hours so we got up nice and really start with a
really solid breakfast just you should stay tuned for two reasons one through
two we're going to friggin the west coast it's gonna be amazing so we've got
lots of good crime tank coming your way but for today what eight minute imagine
is just like when I ain't in the day and you just fed me how they all right funny
you're the first thing you're gonna eat today is the day
close your eyes buddy no I don't want anything raw onion I will tell me
I love you just dump the sausages into another poll now we're just gonna get
started on the scrambled but we've got garlic salt turmeric what's that onion
salt paprika and cumin things are like a giant sponge you don't want it to be all
watery get your finest TP you can find and just Pat her down we're just gonna
crumble up puppy in I guess that'll do for a breakfast spot so so one of my
tips is like I use the extra left over hot water from making tea because we
don't have hot water blocks on lock's off
guys we've been listening to lime Tom its new podcast oh my god this chicks
crying I just I just screaming in the last one screaming and I've had
permanent goosebumps like I'm freaked out
but the reason we really turned on the camera was because we made the
minimalist Baker vegan banana muffin this is the last bucket of our batch
we're gonna share
snack number two is a banana it is what time is it 10:23 sipping on some Aguas
what was the extent of your knowledge in terms of the experiments of a team place
they made us believe that there was an experiment taking place in life town
only that wasn't true
I don't know how to blog you guys wanted guys I know this has nothing to do with
what I eat in a day but we just finished lime town the podcast is actually real
we're both like freaked out right now
working our way and recommend leftovers
I repeated the entire conversation to him and he said you know Jen you keep
doing what you're doing because that woman's gonna be working for you one day
just stopped off at White Lake Provincial Park we're gonna make some
lunch and here's what I'm thinking really like quesadillas with some of the
leftover tofu we've got diet cheese which is pretty
good it melts and maybe you'll do some fresh pepper in there and make like
little quesadillas with some hot sauce it's like my pop out okay here we go
that one can be yours where's my quesadilla
here's Becca's that basically sums up our relationship our personality all
right let's see how chef Eamonn did today
I never good
nice and hot which I really like and spicy hot the piri piri is hotter than I
thought it'd be yeah mmm very good
you spell Yin without Ryan hmm did you soul show them how bad you aren't eating
hot burn in the car no I'll show you when we get back but
aim in the letter oh you did before I could get it on film yeah cheater I met
a lot of people similar to me Freeman and then you pop run
you try and grab as much as you possibly can in your head I just taste so much
better like yeah but it's actually disgusting try one corn at a time I
actually really like one gram it's just not who I am now
snack these coconut clusters so if you got pumpkin seeds sunflower seeds chia
seeds and coconut a little cluster eBay
okay okay guys we've made it to Thunder Bay we're heading into the superstore
we're gonna grab some food we were trying to debate what we wanted and
we've ended on our famous rice paper wraps they're amazing we usually put
like avocado and mango and mushroom and onion and they're really really good
really fresh I think you're overwhelmed check those avocados for both grapes
strawberries tell about the other day when we were shopping and I'm like a
baby go pick up like the mushrooms and I come back and I guess he's a pop no
mushroom talk Lucroy I guess I get very overwhelming grocery stores I like just
look at people and like me observing what they're doing and what they're
buying and all that kind of thing do you see the look Kroy can you see the
Lacroix the Lacroix mission has been unsuccessful to say the least
Lucroy you guys need to breach Thunder Bay Ontario lots of Lucroy drinkers here
we just had a major breakthrough in the Lacroix mission
I'll deal with Perrier yeah can't get a coconut water alright I'll
just do this you're talking about right
now alright let's uh the dark chocolate
hundred colors of glass this stuff here is ridiculous absolutely ridiculous
whatever you do do not turn around and look at the kettle chips
some of us just can't handle it we're warming up the van fogging up the
lens I freaking love cutting mushrooms
then once those are just starting to get a little wet and I check my booms in
there I've done a couple peppers and I find it's really good in these wraps if
they're like really thin thin yeah and that's why I actually feel like you have
oh and we got the mango boom sews peanut butter maple syrup soy and I just like I
don't have a recipe or anything but I just start going on it the main
ingredient is the peanut butter and there's no that's nice and hot I'm going
to add that to the regular cold water to give us sort of rice paper rolls you put
them into our Lukesh warm water so then I lay that out on my plate and then you
basically just load it up with whatever you like inside and fold it like a
burrito baby you guys probably want to close up don't you
yeah I'm not sure if that looks as lush as it should but I'll show you in a sec
here so then I folded me and I put the sauce on the inside because I find it
too messy to try to dip that's pretty key move I've been an
amazing oh thanks buddy your hair in there so we need a
thumbnail maybe we should Jim what focus just
making another one here I think I'm on all three or four okay yeah we we
usually make like a big enough dinner that we can have leftovers for lunch
yep because they ain't nobody got time to do dishes again so I wonder how this
video is gonna turn out I hope you enjoyed it yeah if you did like the
video please give us a thumbs up that way we know you want to see more what I

Who Got Eren's Love Letter? Top 5 Picks! - Attack on Titan Theory - Duration: 5:32.
Where is our super special awesome letter going to? So what's up guys Foxen
here! The destination of Mr. Krueger's letter has gotten a lot of attention
from you guys! I gave a few quick predictions in my chapter 97 review.
Let's now go ahead and delve into this! Here's my top 5 candidates for Eren's
love letter. Make sure to leave your top 3 or 5 predictions down below too! Number
1 Reiner, this big guy has been shown to be extremely depressed and really at the
end of a cliff in this chapter. Eren should have gotten access to other his
father's or Krueger's past memories over these four years. You already found this
chapter how Eren seemed a lot more mature and perhaps hardened. Also think
back to that interaction between him and Reiner in the Titan forest. Like you and
me Eren should now have a lot more context to what was going on in Reiner's
head at that time. It is also possible that Eren could have been gathering
more info from the Eldians inside the internment camp too. Hell Eren might have
even ran into Reiner from afar. The point is either Eren alone or perhaps after
discussing it with others analyses a way of persuading and
gathering an old armored buddy. Tight now that Reiner is at his lowest it'd be the
perfect time for Eren to extend an olive branch to him.
Reiner currently is really only living to help out Gabby and other kids. If Eren
offers him a good plan I don't think convincing him would be too difficult.
Either way the interaction between Reiner and Eren after four years alone
is gonna be quite interesting. There is one thing that makes me doubt this
though. It's just what address is gonna be on that letter? If it is Reiner's, Falco
should instantly recognize it so that'd be a huge issue. Number two Zeke. If that
love letter really is going to Zeke I do hope that they thought this out.
Revealing themselves alone would put everyone in danger.
Zeke already was suggesting for Marley to head over to paradise island to get
the coordinate. Eren could possibly be delivering it on a golden pillow. I give
that a 50% chance of it happening but let's look at this more. Zeke is supposed
to be extremely intelligent and you seen that he's clearly hiding something. Just
what are you up to Zeke? Zeke previously mentioned to Eren about how he would
save him. He could have been lying at that moment but I got a feeling that
Zeke was actually being genuine. Bringing back your half-brother and then having
and eat him that be the complete opposite of what he said. So the other
50% shot would be Zeke would actually decide to work with Eren, and just a
good thing to that this is a much older mature Eren compared to before.
Otherwise I couldn't see this working out at all! By the way the issue of Zeke's
name being on the address does exist here too.
I guess there's also the question of how Eren would even know Zeke's address so
just keep that in mind. Number three Mikasa, Levi, Hange, Armin and the horse!
Alright so I've seen a lot of you mentioned how you want this to be a
trigger for Armin to Colossal Titan on their ass. It would just give them a
taste of their own medicine and honestly that would be fun to see
just for them to get some revenge but I do think there is like zero chance of
this happening. Assuming Mikasa and others are there
they should be aware of the other Eldian's horrible situation. They also do
know about the supposed Devils that history claims them to be. Besides even
if they all agree to it I can't see Armin from four years ago agreeing to do
anything like that. Although who knows I'm not sure how much darker Armin has
becoming, not to mention taller! Anyway I do think that Hange and others have
been sneaking around but I don't think they're inside Marly. Hange could
have parked one of the ships they stole in a nation right outside of Marley. At this
time they could be trying to gather allies. Eren's letter to them would then
confirm the state of Marley and the prison Eldians. Let's just hope that Marley
has an amazing postal service. Number four Annie's father. You know that I
really want to see Annie out of that crystal and if you see my theory video
on it I do believe that she's been out for quite some time. This could in fact
be a letter from Annie to her father just letting him know that she's still
alive. This could have been a condition for Annie in order for her to help out
the Paradise Island people. It is true that she's killed a ton directly and
indirectly but her situation is similar to Reiner and Hange should be aware of
why they did what they did. Just keep in mind that a letter to her father could
put all of them at risk. Hopefully the plan is for him to meet
them somewhere for them to rescue him the grand escape from Marley may show us
the Attack and female Titan versus the beast and Armored Titan. Number 5 Mr. and
Mrs. Yeager. Since there's been a lot of talk about family
there's always Annie and Zeke's grandparents. There is a chance they
could get some valuable information from them these are the grandparents that
raised Croatia and should have known Deana after grish on the group got
caught they should have gone in question and perhaps given some info from the
marley government there's also the important fact that they did raise deke
after his betrayal perhaps they could give some insight into Zeek what makes
him do what he does honestly though the possibility of this
one out of the other ones seems to be the lowest but anyway was more important
are your own thoughts after seeing this breakdown who do you see receiving
Aaron's love letter perhaps the next chapter is just gonna end with Zeke
reading winter is coming but really this is attack on Titan wash the marley
government or the type r family get it first as always be sure and give this a
colossal thumbs up and subscribe especially if you enjoy these attack on
Titan Theory videos if you're looking for more stuff to watch check out my
past video on any a Micasa and i'll see you guys later

Why Perfectionism Is Harmful To Your Online Business - Duration: 0:40.
Hey this is your Coach Joaquin Palacios
bringing you a helpful post about "Mindset".
Why Perfectionism Is Harmful To
Your Online Business.
Striving to be the best we can be isn't a
sin, nor should it be considered a fault.
But when that desire is taken to the
extreme and morphed into a perfectionist
mindset, then it can be detrimental to
you and your business. Even knowing
that such a mindset isn't healthy, "people
still misguidedly value perfectionism."

MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS (2016) - Duration: 7:21.
Well hello! Greetings. Back to movies.
Because everybody loves movies and there's no need to repeat it, isn't it?
In the last video I talked about movies that mostly everyone already knew.
Because they were such generic questions.
And normally questions like 'favourite movie', 'favourite director'
I won't say a Czechoslovakian director who translates his films from the Lebanese to the Middle Swahili Esperanto.
You know what I mean
In this video I'll recommend some movies that I loved and fascinated me
And not very very known
Some of them are, but not as known for everyone to know about them
If I ask, 'do you know Titanic?', everyone will answer 'Yes' but what If I ask about, i don't know... 'Big Bad Wolves'?
Huh? That maybe not. And I'm not talking about the videoclip song.
Most of them are from the horror, thriller genre because well, it's my taste.
FIRST MOVIE! 'Triangle'.
In this movie a mother decides to take a relaxing trip with a simple boat with her friends.
By the sea. To relax. To enjoy the weather.
Until a storm comes and they decide to enter in a bigger boat they find in the middle of the sea.
Where shit starts happening.
Really hard shit. You start seeing things going wrong but until a certain moment, UGH.
I won't spoil anything because it's a very spoileable movie. So I do you this favour. See it.
BIG BAD WOLVES.
This movie is considered the best 2013 movie by director Quentin Tarantino. And I see why.
It's a movie about a father. A father of a child who has been murdered and raped and found in the woods without a head.
From that moment, three characters will be involved in it. Him, a private investigator and a religion teacher probably paedophile.
THE LOVED ONES.
An incredible movie. And inside my Top 5 favourite movies ever (by that time, yes. Not now)
Grotesque, funny, disturbing, very rare sense of humour... you'll probably have a hard time watching it. And you'll catch a phobia for forks.
CHEAP THRILLS.
What would you do for a bunch of dollars? Maybe ten? Maybe a hundred? Thousand? Hundred-thousand?
This movie makes you think about that and takes it to a whole new level.
From slapping a stripper's ass to shitting in the neighbour's house. Really hard shit in general.
THE CABIN IN THE WOODS.
This movie, directed by the same director of The Avengers, which is not as known as The Avengers. By a single fucking mile.
It's a horror movie, like comedy... like a satire of all the clichés of the horror genre, but with no intention of making you laugh, much more like indirect stuff.
It's more like an intelligent satire and very very well done. One of the most entertaining movies ever done.
And it could be also considered as a tribute to the 80s, 90s horror genre and even 2000.
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE (wtf is this doing here you may ask)
If you haven't seen my MOVIES TAG, go see it now. Because GOD. From my Top 5 movie list. Beautiful movie.
My favourite drama. Best cast ever.
Alan Arkin beautiful in his role and as an actor, Steve Carell.. one of the best interpretations he's ever done..
And Abigail.. Alsin? Elsin? Don't remember his full name. A full debut for her.
A very powerful movie. And the soundtrack by Sufjan Stevens couldn't fit more.
SUPER.
'Super' is a movie that has gone unnoticed by the cinemas. Went into some festivals, but even so It didn't became very popular.
Even If it stars Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page and Kevin Bacon.
Yes, Ellen Page from Juno.
It's an incredible mix of violence and comedy. The perfect anti-hero.
It's the cliché of the typical hero who will do anything to stop the evil. But with so many evils inside him. Don't know If i make me clear.
Go see it now, fuck.
IT FOLLOWS.
I usually talk a lot about this movie via Twitter (follow me) and the movie deserves it.
One of the best surprises of the horror genre from the past few years.
A lot of people mention Babadook, movie that I didn't really like much, but it plays the same horror game.
More like psychological horror. Never really scares you but you have a hard time anyways.
'It Follows' is very simple. The main protagonist is being followed by SOMETHING. By something that simply walks.
Doesn't run and doesn't do anything weird. Simply walks.
You tell me.
BEN X
'Ben X' really IS unknown. It's very unknown and funny thing, I discovered it via TV.
Doing zapping one day and found it.
And what a wonderful piece of art.
This movie tells the story of a Young guy, bullied at school, who finds a way to struggle via an MMORPG, which has no name.
And I swear, it's spectacular. Has a really good plot twist, but not like the Shyamalan ones.
THE EXPERIMENT.
Not talking about the remake with Adrien Brody, the american one. No. The German one (2001).
In this movie an experiment is done. A group of men is divided into two parts. Policemen and prisoners.
They recreate a fictional prison and then control the justice and chaos in those cells during a certain time.
The problem comes when you give power to an idiot.
And lastly, EDEN LAKE.
Eden Lake stars Michael Fassbender and tells the story of a happy couple who decide to share a pretty weekend in the woods.
Then they come across some problematic kids and what it seemed like a wonderful weekend ends being a total disaster and you really have a hard time watching it
Very very hard time. A lot of impotence.
And that's all! Hope you enjoyed the recommendations.
Leave in the comments if you have seen any of them, tell me what you thought of them and if you've known them thanks to this video, thank me babies
Nothing else, little much else to say.
Like, share and love me. Long live Satan.

Corsica to Italy on our 30 ft Boat | ⛵ Sailing Britaly ⛵ Ep 4 - Duration: 15:23.
Ahoy there friends hello in this episode of sailing britaly we leave the
Bay of Calvi where we've been anchored for the past five days show you some
beautiful footage of Corsica by air and then anchor in a gorgeous bay where we
find and explore a hidden little cave we then walk to a small village where
we find a cute little church and a 500 year old Franciscan convent I then check
out the view from the top of the mast before we set sail on a long passage
back to Italy
after a very rough ride at anchor we enjoyed the calm end to our stay in
Calvi as a side note it was during an attack on this fort that Lord Nelson
sustained the injury which eventually cost him his eye we left Calvi and made
our way towards the northern tip of Corsica whilst we do that here's a
little treat for you
as you can imagine with views like that it was a beautiful sail North even though
there was quite a lot of spray around as you might be able to tell from my salty
top and face as we made our way in towards the Anchorage we saw this
gorgeous village and decided we just had to go there on foot once we'd arrived the
sunset started off dull but then ended out fabulous the next day we took our
tender ashore to start our penultimate day in Corsica as we walked along the
beach we saw this small hole in the rocks this turned out to be the entrance to a
small cave from within which we could see our boat anchored in the bay the day
was getting very hot but despite that we decided to walk to the village we had
seen from the sea the views were spectacular but the heat was starting to
get to us and once we've been walking a while we realized it was further away
than we had thought in the end it was going to be a four mile uphill walk into
the village without saying anything to Rossella I heard a car approaching and
stuck my thumb out and just like that we successfully hitchhiked our way into
town
it was a very relaxing and peaceful place and atmosphere felt like we were
more at the mountains instead of the sea
Dove siamo amore?
Pino
I was convinced we were going to be able to get a hitchhike lift back to the boat
so we bought a pack of bottled water not one car went past and the handle was
cutting right into my hand so I had to reinforce that with a stick eventually
we got back to our little floating home where I decided to go up the masts to
get some photos of this crystal-clear water after all that walking we
definitely deserved a barbecue and a beer we wanted some whipped cream for dessert
but I was bored of making it by hand with a fork so I came up with a little
invention to do it for me
the next day was our last in Corsica and we wanted to make the most of it we
chilled on the boat we chilled on the beach and Chris tried to do some body
surfing
we then watch our final sunset in Corsica the next day we woke up early
transferred some fuel and then retrieved the second anchor which was set really
well and took quite a long time to get back on deck
we started out motoring and we were really looking forward to the wind picking up a
little bit later in the day ever the optimists we raised the mainsail hoping
for the wind to pick up
we saw some dolphins in the distance but unfortunately we didn't get them on
camera at one stage the wind died off completely and when I say completely I
really mean it
the passage from Corsica to Italy was going to take us around about 24 hours
as we would be arriving in familiar waters at the other end we were able to
plan the trip so that we would spend most of the time traveling during
daylight this turned out to be a really good call
and we both really enjoyed our passage
what we're doing darling we are eating cous cous and it's absolutely delicious
beer as well the boat is sailing itself which is very satisfying [Just one beer]
yes we're going to divide that obviously for not drinking and sailing yeah and we are in the
middle of nowhere at the moment
Hi Ro
the boat is driving itself no autopilot required
We've been going since about six this morning
and it's now halp past eight at night
and in the distance I can just about start to make out Italy so we have nearly arrived
22 miles until the church where we got married
Ciao amore mio. Come sta mio marito?
Benissimo! Fantastico! Non potrei essere meglio... Te? Benissima!
we sailed into the night and navigated our way very carefully through the
narrow channel right next to the church in which we got married the full moon
and clear skies guided us past and we were soon in a nice protected Bay we
were able to anchor on the final night of our honeymoon thank you for watching
the videos of our honeymoon in Corsica it was a very special time for us and we
hope we were able to pass some of the magic that we felt to you see you next
time ciao
ciao!

WHAT WOULD BRUCE WILLIS DO!? How To Have Tough Conversations - Duration: 18:46.
So in my early entrepreneurial days I had started this newsletter or newspaper
around personal development essentially I wanted something positive for people
up there that they could read that isn't doom and gloom and all the sort of
negative news and hysteria and all that sort of stuff and so in this process I
learned a lot about myself and about people and I remember distinctly this
one story where I was meeting with I want to say a gentleman but he was more
like a piece of garbage so I was meeting with this piece of garbage and the
meeting was set up on the pretext of them buying advertising in the paper I
didn't know a lot about what they were doing kind of what their interest was
but I had met someone who worked for him at this networking event and she had
said you know your paper sounds great it's perfect for us why don't you come
and meet with me and the owner and we'll just essentially finalize the details
that's at least how it felt like to me that is not exactly how it happened so a
couple things happened here I was going to this meeting and in true young ENFP
fashion I was late so I actually I got their own time but I was running there I
had a winter coat on so by the time I got there I was sweating I was stressed
I was anxious not a good start and one of the things I'm going to talk about
later in this video is the importance of planning when it comes to talking about
money negotiations charging clients all that
sort of stuff so I get to this meeting and I'm already sort of stressed just
from being late there and we get into the conversation and very quickly he
takes charge it turns out one of the things he taught was a negotiation and
not in like a nice both people win way that I might but in a how to steal
people's homes when they're going broke you know how to take advantage of people
sort of negotiation I didn't know that at the time I learnt it quite quickly so
we're going through our meeting and basically he asks a lot of questions
that bring me down highlight that insecurity I had right putting me in a
state where I was feeling more and more nervous about my business more and more
insecure and and he switched it around where
basically he proposed that he would get free not Artic not sorry
advertisements but he would get free articles in the paper so he would write
articles that would be essentially self promotional and put those in the paper
and then maybe maybe if they got a lot of results he might look to spend some
money and advertise and in this state I was so uncomfortable with being
uncomfortable with confrontation with negotiation and I was feeling such so
low in that state that I actually went along with it and I left that meeting
and I felt really bad like right as I was walking home from this meeting I was
feeling pretty terrible and I was thinking about it
and I realized you know what it basically happened that I had totally
given away part of my business essentially that I'd been taken
advantage of and it was my own fault because of how I took myself into that
meeting and that may be a feeling that you're familiar with it may be something
that you're trying to avoid but I want to go through some of my lessons from
that meeting but more generally talk about money like how do you talk about
money with your clients how do you deal with difficult conversations and that
feeling that maybe you're not worth what you are worth where you're uncomfortable
with charging the right amount or getting money for your services and just
go into all that so it's gonna be a bit of a longer video but I'm gonna try to
make it as comprehensive as possible and so it will cover everything you need to
know to address this area of your life and business and of course if this is a
problem for you in your business then I think it's probably worth spending 20-30
minutes here to get it dealt with because that will have a huge positive
impact for you so when it comes to issues talking about
money there's different opinions on why we have it you know you go to a
therapist and they probably say well as a child you might have seen your mother
giving the mailman some money and those caused some issues for you right you
might hear some personal development speakers talk about it's because you
don't value yourself enough and you should just charge $20,000 for
everything you do no matter what because you're the best
I don't think either of those approaches are that helpful the therapy approach of
looking at her childhood sure that's probably related to it but not that
helpful really to reflect on it at this point and the personal development
approach of just charge a buttload of money in my own experience it doesn't
work that well because on an unconscious level you don't really believe it yet or
what happens is you end up charging way more than you should and you're not
actually providing enough value so in the economy of things that doesn't work
out well for your business right because ultimately what you should aim for when
you're charging is the right amount of value for what you're giving your client
so if you're good at what you do you're delivering good results you should be
charging a lot not an insane amount but you should be charging roughly the fair
amount maybe the fair amount plus 20% extra you know for your hard work and so
that's the goal of where we want to get my theory is one of the main problems
that holds back a lot of people especially my wonderful YouTube fans
here is around discomfort with confrontation is around avoiding
difficult conversations that ultimately comes down to what motivates us and
you're a really empathetic person you can feel that vibe in a conversation of
a difficult question or difficult topics and if you're like on the myers-briggs
personality type if you're in an f-type you probably have a very high sense of
empathy and you can read a room very well right so you know that it's a bit
uncomfortable to maybe address money or do this and if you're pushing someone in
a certain way so asking for money for instance your sense of empathy might
actually mess with you there where it makes it uncomfortable and that makes
you uncomfortable so you just avoid the whole conversation which is cool until
you're homeless and having to go back to some crummy job or something like that
it's better to deal with that issue and get comfortable getting paid the funny
thing is is most people in business do not have this discomfort so if it's
something where you're uncomfortable with it actually creates
more problems it leads to not discussing a money issue when you should which will
lead to you maybe resent in your client or delivering subpar work because you
feel like you're being underpaid and then you're delivering worse work so why
would anyone ever pay you more be you know you can see where this goes right
there's a few practical steps you can take
ultimately dealing with uncomfort and just getting used to talking about money
I think is the solution here because it becomes like a muscle you build it you
get used to it it becomes easier and easier first thing that you can do with
this you know in the movies I've recently been watching this show Burn
Notice it's like my weird it's a ten year old or five year old show that I
just picked up and I watch when I want to watch something and they explain a
lot about the spy world for you and one of the things they explain is if you're
dealing with a transfer so for instance you're negotiating a kidnapping with
someone or you're bringing them the package and they're bringing you the
money you want to have ideally control of the location the meet point and you
also want to scout it out first get there ahead of time know all the entry
entrances the exits are there gonna be people around figure all that out you
want to control where things go down well the same thing is going to apply
with negotiating with clients right so if you are really uncomfortable talking
on the phone about money you know talking face-to-face that's something we
want to deal with them we're gonna get to those in the later bits of advice
here but initially then to help you control where you do that negotiation
when you're on a consultation call and you should always get on the phone with
people don't do business by just email but on that call say hey I don't I don't
go into the details of pricing on this call I take my notes I step away and I
figure out the right amount for the project and then I'll send you a
proposal by email that way you can step away and you don't have to fight that
discomfort head-on if you are someone who has a lot of trouble with dealing
with you know talk about money that kind of thing
then at least it's what I've even found with myself
in the past is I would actually lower my price like I would go into a sales
meeting and think okay I will charge $3,000 for this and then I would feel my
nerves co during the call and I might say it's $2,000 and just like what did i
do why did I just randomly drop it it was because I wasn't comfortable with
that discomfort and with that conversation so find the location
basically take control of where the meeting will happen and where you will
plan or start where you will bring up price and that will give you a lot more
power to be comfortable with it same thing goes in general to taking charge
of the sales process so if you just get on a call with a potential client and
say hey like what's up what are we doing they're gonna say how much you charge
how much does it cost blah blah blah and you're gonna get into
that awkward conversation if you take charge so you get on the call and you
say alright great so we have about 45 minutes here what I like to do in these
first meetings is get to know you really well as a client so can I ask you a few
questions about your business and get to know you better
and they'll say sure then you lead the way you run that interaction and you
don't have to worry about it being taken into areas where you're not yet
comfortable second thing here is to step away so this is most relevant in person
if you're dealing with this but it can also apply on a Skype call or a phone
call I've had meetings like this I told the story earlier right about this
really uncomfortable meeting what I should have done is said hey I just got
to run to the washroom and go to the washroom and get my head on straight
right you go you do a little pump up speech for yourself maybe you just shake
it out a little when we get in the state of like nervousness and anxiety it
changes how we can think it changes our bodies and stepping away just for a
minute if you're on a Skype call with the client say hey I just need to go
grab a glass of water or you know use the bathroom whatever you want to say it
that's your decision do that step aside to the other room
move your body a lot shake it out refocus on your plan
come back so being okay to step away and having that plant say to yourself before
the meeting okay if I start feeling really anxious now I'm going to say I
need to go get some water and step away and then come back refreshed and
refocused and have that plan before you go into the call because once you're
feeling all nervous and awkward about it you're not going to have sort of the
capacity in terms of your thoughts to actually think to step away third thing
is being comfortable with confrontation being comfortable with asking for what
you want it's a muscle like so many things in how we behave right it's a
pattern we get used to so if every time in your life when you've had a
confrontation maybe it's from having an overbearing parent maybe it's from you
know being bullied in school where if you stood up like you've got used to not
standing up for yourself that's got wired into your brain and there's a
cliche in the self-help world but it's actually one of those true cliches which
is how you do anything is how you do everything and so if you have this
pattern in your life of avoiding confrontation that pattern is going to
keep showing up and so changing that one way to do it is through fun and awkward
activities that you can do to basically get more comfortable being uncomfortable
the 4-hour workweek Tim Ferriss book addresses this I think he has four or
five comfort challenges and it's funny because it's a business book primarily
it's kind of a business and change your life type book yet it works in these
different activities and I think that's because he knows that if you're not
comfortable having difficult conversations and having these kind of
tough things like with your boss or with clients or whatever it is then none of
the advice matters right he can tell you or I can tell you okay this is how you
negotiate this is how you price your services this is what you should be
offering your clients but if you're not okay doing that because you're scared
say no or you're scared you'll offend them or you don't even know what you're
scared of you just feel really nervous and uncomfortable about it then none of
the other stuff matters right so a few activities you can do for this one that
I like is to go into well it could be a Starbucks or something
Starbucks is the best because they have ridiculous customer service so they can
never say no to you basically practice so there's two things you can do with it
one is complain about your beverage or your food now I wouldn't recommend doing
this just for no reason so make it a point that if you're actually not happy
you will always complain make that a rule for yourself to basically stand up
for yourself the other thing that I like the thought of to do is go to a
restaurant somewhere and make it like you're tipping so let's say the bill is
four dollars and seventy cents give them five dollars and say thank you and most
countries most cultures they will accept that as a tip they will take that 30
cents then go back to them and ask for your 30 cents back awkward right it's
gonna be uncomfortable right exactly if you can do that you'll be able to
talk about money with your clients there's more activities on this if
there's interest share your ideas for this below there's a bunch of others one
from the 4-hour workweek is to go into like a coffee shop and just lie on the
floor for one minute make it clear you're not dead like have
your eyes open so just lie there and if people ask what are you doing just
feeling nothing just lying here other things to do would be like to maintain
eye contact so you know when you're walking down the street and you see a
stranger you never be the first person to break the eye contact and you don't
have to take these for your whole life try it for 24 or 48 hours if I think of
some more I'll share them below in the comments as well but the point of these
is just to get used to having that uncomfortable conversation right in ways
that are in situations that do matter you know the tipping thing I said
you can always go back and give them the tip after if you want right you don't
have to take it and then you might be saying yourself well I'm so worried
about my reputation well then go back and tip them again after get your 30
cents go back to minutes later and give them a dollar and say sorry I just
needed that change for parking whatever it's getting comfortable with the
conversation the more you can do it in other parts of your life the more it
will be easy for you in the business side of things in dealing with clients
negotiations all that now you might have noticed at a few points me wearing this
wristband here rubber band and wondered about it and let me take you back
because this actually relates the story I told earlier about this meeting so
after that meeting with the client we got I went home and I was talking to my
roommate or flatmate at the time person I shared an apartment with and he you
know we're talking about it and how I was basically feeling like I got pushed
around and stuff and he said to me out of the blue you know what would Bruce
Willis do that is a good question and at the time there was this I don't
know if it was a phase or fad or whatever it was of people having what
would Jesus do bracelets and as much as Jesus could be a great role model for
many people there are times when you might find yourself trapped in an
airport trapped in a high-rise building with an unidentified number of vaguely
Eastern European terrors or perhaps in a business meeting with someone who's a
bit of an ass and trying to push you around and in those moments you don't
really want to be walking on water you got to be walking on glass it's not
about turning water into wine it's about turning some homemade chemicals into
explosives you can use to defeat the terrors and in that case this is where
what would Bruce Willis do come in and this I've had for about a decade now and
it is served as a reminder to stand up for myself in those kind of situations
and so I will do another video about role models and this concept from NLP
called modeling and how you can use that with your business as well
but quickly here that's where this came from is remembering you know what would
someone who stands up for themselves it doesn't take any garbage from anyone
what would they do and you know what would Bruce Willis do so the next time
you find yourself in a meeting this is the last tip of the video the next time
you find yourself in a meeting maybe being pushed around or maybe
you're not even being pushed around but you're feeling insecure you're not
standing up for yourself ask yourself what would Bruce Willis do thanks for
watching be sure to subscribe to the channel to catch more videos as I said
I'm now publishing less frequency less frequently about twice a week but longer
more comprehensive videos that I think can be a really great addition to your
educational library and contribute to your success thanks for watching this

It is very easy to obtain a generous crop
and buds like these ones.
The main quality of the OG Kush is its aroma.

The Ida M. Johnston Award - Carol Altarescu - Duration: 12:28.
And our final Alumni Award for this year recognizes
the significant service and contributions of Carol Altarescu, who received her degree in '71 from SED.
She has made contributions to both our school and to the educational community as a philanthropist and as a volunteer.
Carol has empowered and advocated for children and youth, through the Renaissance Youth Center in the Bronx.
I would like to now introduce our former dean and my colleague, professor Hardin Coleman, who will present Carol with this award.
Greetings, I can't tell you how wonderful it is not to have been the emcee in an event like this, it was very relaxing and wonderful,
and as Cathy has shared with us that this is a wonderful school, and as our future goes forward,
we had the opportunity to really create a school that has impact in the world as the individuals we are awarding tonight have had.
So I want to be very brief in my comment about Carol, because we want to get to good music as quickly as we can.
At graduation this past spring, I shared The Cadets Maxima at West point.
It suggests that excellence can be attained if you risk more than others think is safe,
If you care more than others think is wise, if you dream more than others think is practical, and if you expect more than others think as possible.
When I reached out to congratulate Carol on hearing that this recognition from this community was coming, she typically challenged me as to why.
Well Carol, it's because you model for us how to risk, how to care, how to dream, and how to expect.
The best evidence of your modeling, is the support you give to the Renaissance to Youth Center.
In this work,
yeah I should type everything out, right? Because I can't read my own handwriting.
In this work, you model for us how to use our time, talent, and treasure, to make a real difference in the lives of real people.
Carol, from all of us, thank you.
Thank you so much Hardin. I don't know where he went.
Thank you Hardin so much, and thank you to everybody in this room,
I'm so proud to be standing here to accept this award.
I'm told that Ida Johnson was a woman who valued students, and especially her relationships with them.
I'm sure if we admit, we'd be fast friends. I too believe that the relationship we have with students can be life changing.
My life and career choices were greatly influenced by three amazing women I was lucky enough to work in my early career.
All of them were teachers like Ida Johnson.
In September of 1967, I arrived at Boston University, a naive and somewhat lost child.
I spent two years at the College of General Studies (CGS), not at all interested in anything anyone was trying to teach me.
However, none of that mattered, because on the very first day of my freshman year, I met this really cute guy, and his name was Howard Altarescu.
In my junior year, I transferred to the School of Education.
I chose SED, because frankly, it was the only college at BU that accepted me.
It had never crossed my mind that I wanted to be a teacher. I had never even thought about what I really wanted to study.
My goal at the time was to remain at BU because of that cute guy, so I enrolled in BU's SED.
My first Week at SED, I found myself in professor Carole Greenes' math class,
How to teach Math to Elementary School Students.
Oh boy, I thought. This is going to be boring.
At the end of the class, professor Greenes asked if anyone was interested in going with her to Runkle school in Brookline, to tutor fifth graders in math.
What the heck, I thought, I'd better go see what this is all about.
So I went, and that was the very beginning of my teaching career and my learning career.
Professor Greenes was the first teacher to make me want to learn.
She taught me to ask questions, she encouraged me to think out of the box, and she assured me that mistakes were okay.
Most importantly, she empowered me to take chances.
I was learning to teach children to reach for the stars, and for the first time in my life, I was doing the same.
On top of being an amazing teacher, It was hard not to notice that professor Greenes has had a successful husband, adorable kids, and lived in a pretty house in the suburbs.
Suddenly I knew who I wanted to be.
I had found my first mentor and I had fallen in love with my newfound teaching profession.
As luck would have it, a teacher at Runkle School went on maternity leave, and I completed my course work early at BU,
so that I could take over her classroom and start my full-time career.
But Bett Rayful, principal of the Runkle School and also a BU Grad, told me in no uncertain terms I better not screw up because she was taking a chance on bring a 20-year-old.
With a booming voice but a heart of gold, the bet hammered home the importance of giving your absolute all.
Giving your absolute all if it's for the sake of a child.
She stood up for me, to parents and to administrators, and she encouraged me to do the same.
I was beginning to understand the importance of having good role models and a strong support system.
When I was given my first classroom assignment, I had the great fortune to co-teach with the legendary woman named Evelyn Lerman.
Evelyn Knew how to inspire young students by really listening to them,
by finding hidden meanings and what they were saying by believing in them, and in turn making them believe in themselves.
As I was meddling my way through my first year of teaching, Evelyn taught me to expect and get the very best from every student, myself included.
Still a teacher, Evelyn is now 92 years old and to this day I cherish our friendship.
Good, bad, or indifferent, she continues to embrace life's moments as learning and teaching opportunities, and she always reminds me to do the same.
By the young age of 21, three amazing woman had helped me shape my life and my teaching career.
As we all know, the long-term impact of mentoring can be life-changing. It can be transformative.
The work I do with children today continues to be inspired by those who showed me the ropes.
The most valuable some of the parts of what I learned is how to become a force for change in young people's lives.
So, as you guessed, that cute guy from BU, we got married 47 years ago.
We have three wonderful children and raised them in New York in Westchester. I am so proud to have them in the room with me tonight.
About 16 years ago, our then 12 year old son Ben told us he wanted to play basketball against tougher competition in New York City.
His young ambition led him and us to the Renaissance Youth Center in the south Bronx.
When we first took Ben to tryouts for Renaissance, we stepped over hypodermic needles and walked through metal detectors.
It was clear that we were entering a world so different from our own.
Ben made the team and played with the Renaissance Warriors for three years.
Howard and I spent many nights and days in the stands rooting for the team and getting to know the coach and the players.
Little did I know, my teaching career was about to be resurrected.
Ben eventually left the Warriors and moved on to play for his high school team.
But Howard and I had a feeling that by sticking around, w could make a difference in the lives of people we had come to love and respect in the south Bronx.
We were inspired and we wanted to help. We wanted to be the force of change.
The Renaissance kids. They're good-natured, they're hard-working, they're frequently distracted. They're athletic, they're funny, they're lovable, they're talented, and they're smart.
But they face serious challenges.
Renaissance youth center is located in the south Bronx. The poorest congressional district in the United States.
Many, if not most, come from single-parent households. Street violence, drugs, criminal behavior, hunger, and neglect.
Just a few of the issues that they face.
When students walk through our door at the center, the sign that greets them says "the street ends here".
The rags come off the heads, pants get pulled up, and expectations run high.
The program has has grown since we got involved in 2001 when it served about 150 children.
Today we touch the lives of approximately 3,000 students weekly.
We offer music and sports to get the students involved, and then layer that with academic enrichment and social development.
The areas in which I have put my experience to use.
I've structured, developed, and facilitated educational programs, I built a take home library, so that kids can discover new books and fall in love with reading.
I've helped with many college applications and taken them to visit schools.
Through a Dear Santa letter writing program and the support of many friends and volunteers, I make sure that over 400 children have their personal wishes delivered to them each Christmas day.
Most of all, I leverage the lessons I learned so many years ago.
I teach my Renaissance kids to take chances, ask questions and stand up for themselves.
I show them I care, I listen to them,
I encourage them to dream and I do my best to be the force of change in their lives.
That is the legacy of Carole Greenes, Babette Rayful, Evelyn Lerman, and Ida Johnson. Thank you.

You need to think of yourself as a freelancer and say "This is my client right now and I'm
