Right Wing Think Tank Tries To Start A Fight With Pope Francis - Duration: 4:14.

Conservatives across the United States are actually pissed off at Pope Francis for a

couple of reasons, the first being he's actually more of a populist and is really reading the

bible and attempting to interpret it in a way that represents the way of life for people

all across the planet, specifically the love of money and the neglect of the poor.

Pope Francis has been huge on telling the wealthy elite across the planet that they

need to do more to help the less fortunate.

Pope Francis is attempting to get the church to help the less fortunate by kicking these

wealthy priests out of these lavish churches and using them as homeless shelters.

You know, things that the bible actually thinks we should do, but that is not the only thing

pissing off Conservatives right now.

Conservatives are even madder at Pope Francis because he believes we should do something

to protect the planet from climate change.

The Federalist Society, a right-wing think tank organization funded by people like the

Koch Foundation have come out this week with an op-ed attacking Pope Francis as somehow

being out of touch with reality because he believes that we should do something about

climate change.

Here's a couple of the little subheaders throughout the article that they wrote.

"Climate change is a mask for economic control," so not only are they mad that Pope Francis

is saying we should do something about climate change, but they think that he is somehow

trying to work with I guess the New World Order type conspiracy folks to control the

global economy by getting us to care about the future of the planet.

Now, if you're having trouble wrapping your head around that, don't worry.

I am too.

It's really hard to wrap your head around something that stupid, but this is what the

Federalist Society believes.

Again, if you go through and look at the funding of the Federalist Society, you'll find all

kinds of different organizations and foundations that fund them, so then you got to go look

through those foundations and see who funds them, and sure enough, you find people, Charles

and David Koch, Exxon, other fossil fuel entities, other organizations that actively deny climate

change, and they're all funneling it into the Federalist Society, who's now funneling

that anger into the freaking pope.

Another subheader.

"This is an unholy obsession" for Pope Francis.

Unholy obsession to protect what he believes to be God's creation.

That's actually in the bible that you're supposed to protect the environment, you morons.

In case you're not that familiar with the Federalist Society, they are the group that's

currently feeding judicial nominees to the Mitch McConnell, who is then feeding them

to Donald Trump.

They are the ones who are working to pack our courts right now with right-wing corporate

political hacks who will do everything to give everything to corporations and take away

our rights as consumers, specifically our right to a clean environment.

That is why the Federalist Society is attacking Pope Francis and that is why they don't want

you to know who's actually funding their organization and they've shrouded in getting money from

other foundations and all of that.

It's really not that hard to find once you start digging just a little bit, but that's

something most people aren't willing to do.

You're going to pick a fight with the pope about something like protecting God's creation,

you better come with more than just a couple of talking points about economic control and

unholy obsessions because if you want to get in a fight with the pope, you better make

sure that your history is about as squeaky clean as possible because I don't think that

you're ever going to win an argument with the leader of a religion that has billions

of followers around the globe when all he's doing is trying to protect

the planet.

So today we talk about a subject that I care a lot about, but don't talk that much about,

which, I should because you should share the things that you are passionate about.

So today's video is about poetry.

Like most people I found out about poetry in school.

I really from the start did enjoy it.

I was very shy kid, and public speaking was, and still isn't my forte.

But reading poetry, or reciting it, always felt easy, and thrilling and enjoyable.

So I guess I had predispositions for poetry, and not everyone is like that

but I'm here to tell you that enjoy it too, even if you hated it at school !

So what first attracted me in poetry I guess, is rhythm.

Rhythm has carried poetry throughout human history.

We used rhythm to transmit myths and oral histories long before writing was even a thing

So I feel like in this rhythm you have all of humanity,

all of its history, all of its common way to say things,

that I think is really amazing.

That really shows poetry has for a very very long time been humanity's ...Thing.

You might think of poetry in a very traditional school it's-verse-meter-and-rhyme way but

- And I'm not here to discuss what poetry is or isn't in the canon, I'm no expert

I'm just here to share my feelings but

I think there's a lot more than that to poetry.

I think you can think of it as a feeling and you can find it in many mediums.

You have your poems, you have your songs, you have prose and even non fiction,

anything you can read and watch and listen.

And it's the bridge between images and words and spirit.

It's no coincidence that religion has been so linked to the poetic world

because there is something magical about it.

I think it is something that makes you feel whole,

and that connects you to the rest of humanity

and that can be found in any small moments that makes you think

"yes, this is the word for this feeling"

or "yes this is the image for this word" that makes you understand

the beauty that you find around you.

But how do you go about appreciating/understanding or just finding poetry ?

Because it can seem like something really hard to get into, like a giant mountain of

canon, and poets and movements, and tradition,

So it can seem like something that is really hard to get into.

But I'm here to give you some advice on how to get poetry to you.

I think that the first this is you have to forget what you know.

If you hated poetry in school, then it's just that they weren't the right poems for you,

or the right people teaching them to you, or you weren't in the right mindset for it

at the time.

So you have to let go of what you know and be open to the idea that there is something

poetic out there for you that you will enjoy.

As I said, poetry takes many forms.

It's not just fancy words, and rhymes and strict meter (thank god!)

And some of it is more visual...

If reading is the problem for you, you can try reading it out loud,

or seek out spoken word, there's a lot of it on youtube.

And it doesn't have to be labeled that...

Just people who speak beautifully are everywhere.

Maybe you start thinking of your favorite song lyrics as a poem,

and the many ways that they change over the time, and what they mean to you.

For more specific ways to get poetry to come to you, because I think the hardest thing

to get into poetry is seeking it out not knowing what to look for really.

So, you can follow people on the internet, we have these great social media platforms.

There's a lot of cool poets on tumblr, also on twitter, or once again just people,

even if they don't think of themselves as poets, who just write and speak beautifully.

There's newsletters and zines that you can find on the internet or in the real world.

I have a subscription to one of these mailing lists that sends a poem every day,

and I absolutely do not read all of them, but I know that every day

something is reminding me that I could be reading a poem,

and that way I always find new people.

And that helps you build sort of a list of the people you like,

or to find what characteristics will just click for you.

Once you start knowing what you like, you can seek out collections, on a theme or

by an author, from a movement ...

The more you learn, the more you will know what you like,

and know how to seek out things that will make you feel good and that you will enjoy

in this amazing huge poetry landscape that we have now.

So, yeah.

I hope I haven't been too rambly and too whimsical about it all.

Kellyanne Conway Is In Charge Of US Opioid Response, Which Means We're Screwed - Duration: 3:52.

Not that long ago the Trump administration finally decided to take action on the opioid

epidemic here in the United States that's killing an estimated 91 American citizens

a day, 33,000 American citizens every year.

They were going to finally take it seriously, declare it a national emergency and do something

to combat the problem, and Wednesday of this week Attorney General Jeff Sessions held a

press conference where he told us exactly how they're going to solve that problem.

Jeff Sessions approached the podium and he told us, "Ladies and gentlemen, we know

who's going to lead this effort to combat the opioid epidemic in the United States.

And that person is White House counselor Kellyanne Conway.

Jeff Sessions, Attorney General of the United States, told the American public with a straight

face that a woman who has no experience in drug policy, no experience with pharmaceuticals,

no experience with telling a factual sentence, is now going to be spearheading the administration's

efforts to combat one of the largest public health crises in modern times in the United

States.

Kellyanne Conway, the inventor of the Bowling Green massacre, the inventor of the phrase

"alternative facts."

She is the one who's going to save us from the pills being pushed by the pharmaceutical

industry that are killing 91 people every single day.

Now, I don't know about you, but I don't have a whole lot of faith in Kellyanne Conway.

I don't think she's going to do a damn thing to protect us from the opioid epidemic.

I don't think that this woman has any clue in her brain how to approach something of

this magnitude.

I don't think for a second that she's going to hold a single pharmaceutical company

or opioid distributor accountable.

I don't think she's going to do that.

I think she's going to blame it all on the victims here, the people who were prescribed

opioids didn't know quite what they were, took them, became addicted and either died

or had their lives ruined as a result of this.

This is an epidemic that was pushed from day one by big pharma and opioid distributors

in the United States.

The documents in the lawsuits that have been filed show that.

This opioid … the pills … the Oxycontin, Tramadol, things like that, they went from

making a few hundred thousand dollars per year when they were first introduced, to a

few years ago pulling in $4 billion dollars a year per pharmaceutical company.

They're multi-billion dollar pills.

They're not just going to give it up because Kellyanne Conway walks up to them and says,

"Hi, I'm Kellyanne.

Can we stop this epidemic?"

This isn't going to work, and putting Kellyanne Conway in there in the first place proves

that this administration is not taking the problem seriously.

There are very real steps that could be taken to rein in the behavior of the pharmaceutical

companies and the distributors, but that involves holding them accountable, throwing people

in jail, releasing the documents to the public so that we understand exactly what they did

and why they did it.

Kellyanne Conway is not the person to do that.

Jeff Sessions isn't the person to do that.

Nobody within the Trump administration is the person to do that, because they are joined

at the hip with industries all over this country.

And if we think that they're going to take the opioid epidemic seriously, then we actually

deserve somebody like Kellyanne Conway.

happened recently it's just economics to freaking out over

the tax cuts for the middle class and they're not getting all come the poor

people itself is not getting the tax cut they don't understand how it all works

in order to make money you got to get it from a business in order for that

business to pay out money they have to have money and this is this is how it

actually works so I mean I understand how this actually really breaks down and

it will actually boost the economy the Mike Pence also explained it pretty good

and I'll go ahead and play the clip right here for you tax reform is it

going to be in the Christmas stocking stuffer is this going to get done by

Christmas what's the prediction well we believe it will president Trump and I've

been working literally around the clock with members of the Senate and before

that with members of the House of Representatives and we really believe

that before Christmas comes we're going to deliver to the American people the

largest tax cut in American history and as the president has said it's going to

be a middle class miracle this is tax relief that's going to benefit working

families across this country with real and immediate tax relief the average

American family will have more than $1,200 in their pockets when this passes

but but more than that we're going to reform our business taxes in this

country so that companies large and small can begin to compete with

companies around the world again that will create jobs and we also know that

by reducing taxes on businesses will see wages arise in this country and so we're

very close we're going to continue to work closely with members of the Senate

to move legislation this week then it'll be off to what's called a conference

committee to work out the differences but we really do believe that as the

president said just yesterday the American people are going to get a

great Christmas present this year and it's going to be a big beautiful tax cut

that will benefit their families and benefit this growing American economy

and it truly is actually a good thing this is really gonna actually do a boost

but then we got people like this it's actually comparing it to r4pe and what

would be the justification in your mind that Republicans would have for raising

taxes on lower-income people because they you know they spend all of their

income so why would I raise taxes on them it really defies comprehension

maybe they think that the poor have it's so easy that they need to have to pay

more taxes to force them to go out and work more it really the amazing thing is

that people seem to be accepting this so meekly and mildly is it's really akin to

r4pe it really the liberal mainstream media just is terrible I mean that the

stuff that they actually put out now I mean not like they actually really put

out anything good before but it hasn't gotten any better as all I could say but

I mean it just doesn't in there and I did a video yesterday on how ABC

released a fake news talking about how general Flynn was playing guilty to the

for lying to the FBI and they put out there that Trump was colluding before

the election and it's actually happened in December which was after the election

so I mean I mean it was already it was fake news and ABC had to retract the

statement but these people look even more like idiots on the view like every

other deranged liberal is celebrating ABC's report that Michael Flynn would be

testifying that Trump directed him to make contact with the Russians during

the campaign but of course we now know that story is fake news and ABC was

forced to redact it my hair now looks like the biggest Moore on earth for

celebrating a completely made-up report and calling it an early Christmas gift

ABC News Brian Ross is reporting Michael Flynn promised full cooperation to the

Muller team and is prepared to justify that as a candidate Donald Trump

directed him to make contact with the Russians idiot you know she has to be

felled like a complete moron after stating that I mean what would you even

want to show your face on TV after doing that I don't know I mean that was

literally just jumping the gun they're going off the first headline you read

from ABC ooh ABC it's insane what these people

hi everyone look at this beautiful mess I was doing a couple projects I was

making a few brushes for some friends and I use color bloom sprays and some

color birds and this is my beautiful mess on my table as you can see there is

a lot a lot of ink and I don't want it to go to waste so I'm going to

reactivate because all of them are water-soluble so all you have to do and

they were a little bit dry and all you have to do is just reactivate them and

then I was thinking okay do you know what oh my god such a great

idea let me make some backgrounds so I'm gonna take some watercolor paper and I'm

gonna play around with to see what kind of ideas will come out out of this so

I'm gonna start with the center here you know maybe to the side here the first

thing I'm going to do is I'm just going to press on it and see if what kind of

idea what kind of thing comes out it's just I'm experimenting you know I don't

want to waste anything oh wow look at the beautiful watercolor background I

thought I was gonna get like dots and I have some beads here which are

preventing from the preventing things from getting on there so that's the

first one ooh I love this actually it's really really nice for a card background

so that's a great great oh my god moment I like that nothing new but wow I love

it okay the next one is I'm going to drag but I want to drag where there's

color so let me see hmm whew I like that a lot more okay oh I like that

let me let it drip a little bit I'm just gonna drag the other side oh wait no I

want to keep it to the same side sorry because then it will be different colors

alright this is my second background how cool is that

I like that okay so I have two backgrounds here okay continuing I have

a few this woman now I want to let's see get some but I'm going to try and do

circles see what happens okay so let's see and not sure if this is gonna

do anything now it's just gonna make a whole mess still looks pretty let's add

two colors and add some purple here from the side oh I like that and I'm gonna

let these like beads kind of stick on I

like this and it's so nice I'm gonna have like so it's a really great thing

to do not to waste any ink and I did spray a lot of ink here so that's why

this is a different paper this is a Bristol paper smooth Bristol paper so

let's see if it reacts differently frenched I'm going to press let's see

how it does it I think it's too wet oh I like that you see it reacted differently

that the watercolour there watercolor really absorbed it well this one is

smooth so it's kind of taking these really cool effects from the background

oh I really like that okay hold on let me down here okay now it's getting too

messy so then I'm gonna stop I'm gonna get some more of this Bristol paper okay

just to clarify what I'm using I'm gonna bring the Bristol paper out so I'm going

i'm using this Strathmore Bristol paper this is a 9 by 12 inches and I'm also

going to experiment with canvas pad this is a canvas pad also 9 by 12 I'm gonna

see what happens it's all an experiment and just to specify what inks I'm using

because I was so excited I didn't even get a chance to explain which ones I had

on my table so I was doing a project and here are the ones I'm using I'm using

them sorry the the Prima color bloom sprays 2 different colors some of the

ones this is the blue one I have like this one and then I'm also there's some

a little bit of color bursts metallic colored bursts as well in there I mean

it was a whole mishmash of colors so that's basically

what I did so so as you saw with the Bristol it's tricky the smoothness came

out really nicely I'm going to try and drag this now the pristine Bristol one I

really loved how it came out like that so I'm going to try and drag now and see

what happens with because I like it that it's smooth so let's see and okay so it

didn't come out as great as I thought because it's very because it's smooth

what's happening is that it's repelling the water a little bit let me try it on

this side okay it's still nice but it's not as nice as the other one I really

really love the other one that I came out so I'm going to do one more like

that I'm going to try and get some pulled lines not going to have a lot of

dots everywhere I'm going to press and see what happens and then uh different

than before let's see with a little bit more water

I love how like things progress over like that so what's happening is that

it's because I've used so many papers already it's getting diluted and the

people their designs are not coming out as cool as when you did them the further

I did them the first time around another fun trick you can do with this and I'll

show you for a fun background okay take a little lid and press and you can

create cool marks on it even like that even there just how cool is that I mean

it's almost like mana printing and I wonder if it would work you know okay so

there's fun ideas to do with that now as I said I wanted you to I wanted to try

the canvas paper this is literally a canvas paper let's see what happens I'm

going to press first in it when it has two sides hold on and

there are some stones here that I don't want in the thing so if 5-minute

backgrounds that's what basically this video is going to be all about and this

canvas has like that has two sides to it I think one is gesso and one is not so I

mean this is a really great way to create quick backgrounds so if you're

done with with spraying things and you did it on your mat this is my Ken Oliver

mat which is really really great and easy to clean so if you are done with

that you can create these really cool backgrounds and I'm going to show you

I'm going to put a little bit more yellow in this just because I want to

add a little bit more yellow in it so you can see that basically everything

got diluted because if you look at the first one that I did which is this one

it's quite stronger the color is really really strong okay so this is fun and

let me try and dragging as well so literally five minutes I hope this video

is 5 minutes I'm going to drag oh I should have used the other side it's a

good way of wiping everything off let's see let's see let's see and the other

that backgrounds how they come out ok let's try on this side we haven't done

there's a hair not expecting that okay so I think I do I think what's happening

is that my table is dirty from other things and it's speaking up gesso and a

lot of other things from it so ah do I like this last one no my favorite ones

are the first two and it's really nice the way they came out with the

watercolor paper I really really love those too so that's a great way I really

love these two as well these are really really nice and these are really fun you

could just make any type of project with this card or anything like

then and then I can just go ahead and clean it up I basically used up almost

all the ink on this and then I can clean it up easily thanks so much for coming

How to paint mandalas with acrylics # 12 - Christmas ball snowflake - Duration: 5:28.

Hello, welcome to my channel

today we are going to paint Christmas balls

with the design of the snowflakes

we started

let's paint these balls

are plastic

and I will use

one finished in matt

which is with which I'm going to record the video

and I'm also going to paint one in glossy finish

trying to be aligned

with the top of the ball

and now the other four dots

trying to

from largest to smallest size

using only a burden of paint

to make the four dots

we continue making three more dots

now we let the paint dry

So especially with like American Express cards you only get this signup

Bonus once so it's really important to make sure you get the highest one possible

Hi, I'm Joe and I'm the Vice President for the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD).

I am supported by the NAD for my involvement in WFD.

Joe, can you tell us what this video is about?

Definitely!

Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, established by United Nations.

WFD works towards accessible rights for all deaf people.

The most important thing WFD is advocating for

is the Convention on the Rights for Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

To ratify the CRPD in individual countries require us to work with different disability organizations.

The CRPD includes sign language rights.

Today, I encourage you to consider ways to partner with

other disability related organizations to achieve our mutual goals.

There are many groups we can work with within our community:

DeafBlind, people who use wheelchairs, autistic, mental health, and many others.

To learn more about these groups, you can attend their conferences, participate in workshops,

read a book about their group, chat with friends that are members of a group,

it's important to recognize we can learn from each other.

That's right, this community is important to us.

WORKOUTS & WINTER FESTIVALS - Duration: 8:26.

I usually start my Friday in the gym. It opens at 9 AM so I'll be heading there just before that time.

I have to admit, I love doing this in summer,

but now it's winter and I'm having some trouble getting up this early when it's not for work.

But let's do this!

I'll have to admit that I'm finally sort of satisfied with my gym schedule. I try to work out four times a week.

Finally my body's starting to look like what it did before I got myself a sports' injury.

Look at how misty it is by the way.

So yeah, it's starting to look better, though I'm never actually happy with it, sadly, but I'm happier about it than before!

The person that lived here before me got this thing. When I moved in I had no idea what to do with it, but I love it now.

Makes my bathroom so nice and warm.

For those who don't know, next to this channel I also do SchildersTV (A/N PaintersTV).

I make a part of the videos and I edit all of them.

I also manage the social media and the website. This takes me about 30 hours a week.

I've got some mails to answer right now, and the next few hours I'll be working.

A friend of mine is coming for dinner tonight, just going to chill a bit and tomorrow I'm going to Blijdorp Winterfestival.

I'm quite excited for this weekend, but first I got some work to do!

Hey guys, I had a really fun night. It's 11 PM right now, I'm going to watch some TV before I'm heading to my bed, maybe some Netflix.

Tomorrow I'm going to Blijdorp Winterfestival, which was so much fun last year.

Part of it takes place outside, and it was actually freezing today, so I hope tomorrow is slightly better, but I'm excited.

These vlogs, the vlogmas vlogs not the party ones, will each be about two days long.

This is because I've got a lot of videos planned; I'm going to do artist interviews,

got a rave outfit video and of course my party vlogs, so it'll be a bit more manageable.

I just changed my filming background, it's so Christmas-y!

I've had this tree for years now and my sister actually gave me that cactus-thing.

Got some baubles going on and this plant. If you're thinking, "hey Alennah that plant looks pretty dead", that's because it is,

because of this little guy who killed it. It's finally getting back to life now he can't reach it unless I'm in this room.

So yeah, go plant, go!

Good morning everybody, I'm going to put some makeup on my face.

. It's midday already actually, half past 12.

I'm going to Blijdorp Winterfestival, which starts at 1 PM, which obviously I'm not going to make.

I'm not really a person to get to a festival or rave right from the start, especially when they are quite long like this one.

As I said part of it is outside, so I've no idea what to wear,

hence why I'm still in my pajamas while doing my makeup, I usually get dressed first.

But today is different, because it's freezing outside and I've no idea what to wear.

Why do I always lose stuff? I had such a long sleep.

I usually get up around 9 if not earlier, thanks in part to my cat. But it was past eleven this time.

Probably because I had a few glasses of wine. I don't usually drink,

but one of my oldest friends was here yesterday and we had some good chats and some drinks, so I had a pretty decent sleep.

I'm going to do my makeup now and think about what I'm gonna wear.

Dear god that cat and that Christmas tree… Bubba, hey! Anyway, time to do my makeup, I'll see you in a bit.

I'm not sure what to think about my makeup today.

It kinda looks like someone hit me in the eye, but it will have to do.

Fun fact, these onesie have a pee-zipper. So you can go to the toilet without getting totally undressed.

My god it's cold. I'll be putting on my onesie later on, driving in one is awkward.

Kellyanne Conway Is In Charge Of US Opioid Response, Which Means We're Screwed - Duration: 3:52.

Not that long ago the Trump administration finally decided to take action on the opioid

epidemic here in the United States that's killing an estimated 91 American citizens

a day, 33,000 American citizens every year.

They were going to finally take it seriously, declare it a national emergency and do something

to combat the problem, and Wednesday of this week Attorney General Jeff Sessions held a

press conference where he told us exactly how they're going to solve that problem.

Jeff Sessions approached the podium and he told us, "Ladies and gentlemen, we know

who's going to lead this effort to combat the opioid epidemic in the United States.

And that person is White House counselor Kellyanne Conway.

Jeff Sessions, Attorney General of the United States, told the American public with a straight

face that a woman who has no experience in drug policy, no experience with pharmaceuticals,

no experience with telling a factual sentence, is now going to be spearheading the administration's

efforts to combat one of the largest public health crises in modern times in the United

States.

Kellyanne Conway, the inventor of the Bowling Green massacre, the inventor of the phrase

"alternative facts."

She is the one who's going to save us from the pills being pushed by the pharmaceutical

industry that are killing 91 people every single day.

Now, I don't know about you, but I don't have a whole lot of faith in Kellyanne Conway.

I don't think she's going to do a damn thing to protect us from the opioid epidemic.

I don't think that this woman has any clue in her brain how to approach something of

this magnitude.

I don't think for a second that she's going to hold a single pharmaceutical company

or opioid distributor accountable.

I don't think she's going to do that.

I think she's going to blame it all on the victims here, the people who were prescribed

opioids didn't know quite what they were, took them, became addicted and either died

or had their lives ruined as a result of this.

This is an epidemic that was pushed from day one by big pharma and opioid distributors

in the United States.

The documents in the lawsuits that have been filed show that.

This opioid … the pills … the Oxycontin, Tramadol, things like that, they went from

making a few hundred thousand dollars per year when they were first introduced, to a

few years ago pulling in $4 billion dollars a year per pharmaceutical company.

They're multi-billion dollar pills.

They're not just going to give it up because Kellyanne Conway walks up to them and says,

"Hi, I'm Kellyanne.

Can we stop this epidemic?"

This isn't going to work, and putting Kellyanne Conway in there in the first place proves

that this administration is not taking the problem seriously.

There are very real steps that could be taken to rein in the behavior of the pharmaceutical

companies and the distributors, but that involves holding them accountable, throwing people

in jail, releasing the documents to the public so that we understand exactly what they did

and why they did it.

Kellyanne Conway is not the person to do that.

Jeff Sessions isn't the person to do that.

Nobody within the Trump administration is the person to do that, because they are joined

at the hip with industries all over this country.

And if we think that they're going to take the opioid epidemic seriously, then we actually

deserve somebody like Kellyanne Conway.

We're being reduced to the image of a simple doll that must be the most banal of them all to win the game,

and at the earliest opportunity to show others what makes us special, game over.

It's at this very moment, that my past started getting bigger and bigger in my life.

Now, he won't leave me anymore.

He doesn't want to leave,

but that's okay,

I was just starting getting used to this...

Getting used to those comments, those insults,

those giggles, those staggering looks,

those mean labels that were stuck to my forehead.

"Fucking faggot", "He plays Barbies", " Go suck cock and shut your mouth, little bitch",

"If I see you, I'll kill you" or even " Your reputation is dead, you're over motherfucking bastard, little faggot".

Does it shock you ?

Not anymore to me.

You just have to live with it and shut it down so that you don't have any problems.

But I also have to think about my future, what I want to become, because I don't want to be everyone's punching bag.

My dream ? To be a dancer. Yes, dancer.

I'm proud of it and I can proclaim it from the house-tops if you want.

I'm dreaming about a bright, soft, graceful, simple, refined future, of an exceptionnal delicacy.

The absolute opposite of my past, that I carry like I was carrying my own corpse.

Are Humans Intelligent? - Kardashev Scale Explained - Duration: 12:23.

This is Earth.

Earth is located in between this cluster of planets and other objects that orbit around

the Sun, a bright star at the center of this solar system.

It is by far the most important source of energy on earth.

This solar system is located in the Milky Way galaxy and it is estimated that there

are about 100 billion such galaxies in this universe.

Wait?

But who's estimating these numbers?

Meet humans, a life form on the planet earth.

Also, this lives on earth

Oh, also ... this!

Humans describe themselves as an intelligent species.

They are conscious of their existence, they constantly ask questions, they use their two

legs to walk and two hands to pick things up and turn them into other things.

It all began with Lucy.

Lucy, also known as AL 288-1 was a female homonid.

For a reference, humans and chimpanzees also belong to Homonini.

Lucy is dated to about 3.2 million years ago.

Lucy was discovered in Africa in 1974 near a village called Hadar.

We only have 40% of Lucy's skeleton arrangements.

But, why is she so important?

Because her skeleton presents a small skull, similar to that of apes, plus evidence of

standing and walking upright.

Walking upright is called bipedalism.

Lucy's skull proves that bipedalism preceded increase in brain size.

She is one of humanity's early ancestors, one of the first species to walk upright,

meaning she used her legs to walk and used the pair of hands to pick things up and defend herself

There, the early human was born.

Humans to this day, use tools around them, build things, live comfortably and even answer

their existential questions through these tools.

Humans are now evolved to even use energy from the sun, wind, force of water and coal.

That's how they power their incredible cities and vehicles.

So, all things considered, do you regard human beings as intelligent?

What is intelligence in the first place?

Intelligence is described "as the ability or inclination to perceive or deduce information,

and to retain it as knowledge to be applied towards adaptive behaviors within an environment

or context."

If that's what intelligence is, even plants could be classified as intelligent.

In a 2015 book Brilliant Green, scientist Stefano Mancuso explains how plants process

information, sleep, remember, and signal to one another -- showing that, far from passive

machines, plants are intelligent and aware.

When you look at the ant colonies, it is evident that they possess remarkable intelligence

and have the ability to learn from recent experience.

In fact all animals display complex and intelligent behaviors.

They navigate over long distances, find food, avoid predators, communicate, display courtship

and care for their young.

So, if all species are intelligent in their own right, the next question that comes to

mind is, how do you classify intelligence?

One way humans differ from their fellow earth dwellers is through the process of creativity.

Ever since human beings escaped the food chain, their reality expanded to areas other than

mere survival.

When a person who has all their basic survival needs met, starts paying closer look at their environment

They begin to notice how their society makes them feel and get involved in the process of creation

They start connecting with people around them, create works that expresses how they feel,

write books, draw and sing and constantly look for room for improvement.

When you are just barely surviving, the fact that walking from San Francisco to New York City

takes about 1000 hours or 41 days doesn't bother you.

But when you have all your needs met, you are thinking of how to improve the travel

time between the cities using the tools around you, paving way for new technologies.

It is the human condition to always seek for that room for improvement.

Developing new technologies to live comfortably and answering existential questions through

those technologies has always set us apart.

So then, can intelligence be classified through our use of technology?

We are the only beings in our planet that creates and constantly updates and redefines

their technology.

There is nothing to compare our advancements against, to measure our intelligence.

Since in the last episode we talked about the Fermi Paradox, and looked to the stars

in search for the technology obsessed extraterrestrial civilizations, today we are going to compare

ourselves against those hypothetical civilizations to measure our own intelligence.

In 1964, a Soviet Astronomer called Nikolai Kardashev, created something called Kardashev Scale

It is a method to classify different intelligent civilizations and their technological advancements

based on the amount of energy, a civilization is able to use for communication.

This scale has three categories.

Type I civilization, Type II civilization and Type III civilization.

Type I is any civilization that can use and store all the energy, which reaches its planet

from the planet's star.

It uses all of its planet's energy, completely.

For example, we use sun light, water, wind and earth based minerals to derive electricity.

But we don't even use the solar energy completely; let alone using all the energy resources available to us

But history suggests that humanity is always in the midst of a technological revolution,

be it the industrial Revolution of the past or the Artificial Intelligence of the present

and the future.

Humanity is currently undergoing the transformation process from being a type 0 civilization to

type 1 civilization, according to this scale.

But any civilization, which is undergoing this transformation, also carries a significant

risk of self-destruction, and humanity is facing it right now.

Excessive energy usage without the adequate disposal of the resulting heat could make

the planet unsuitable for any biological life forms, and leave their food sources depleted.

But we also have to take into account that any civilization, which is reaching Type 1,

could also hold the resources to colonize other planets.

Type II is any civilization that can harness the energy radiated by its own star.

Not just the energy that falls on the planet from the star, that's Type I, but harnessing

the energy directly from its home star.

At this point in time, we can only dream of what this civilization might look like.

This is where concepts like Dyson sphere comes into play, a hypothetical structure that completely

surrounds a star and captures most of or all of its power output.

Type III civilization also called galactic civilization, can control energy on the scale

of its entire galaxy.

Not just the planet, not just the home star, not just the solar system, but also the whole

galaxy with millions of stars and planets.

We cannot even begin to imagine what this type of civilization would look like.

They would appear to be God like in comparison to our species.

They would have absolute mastery over all types of energy resources within the galaxy.

They could even tap into energy released from supermassive black holes that are believed

to be in the center of most galaxies.

From a human's perspective, for this to happen, thousands of years of biological and

mechanical evolution should pave way for a civilization like this.

At this point, if you are wondering about what the state of humans in this scale is,

astronomer Carl Sagan got you covered.

Based on our energy use in 1973, Carl Sagan estimated that earth represented a Type 0.7 civilization

In 2015, we were at 0.7239 in the Kardashev Scale.

Using this as a reference, we can build a Karashev model starting from the lowest civilization

type, Type 0.1.

As a Type 0.1 civilization, you would use sticks and other tools you find to hunt and

gather your food.

From Type 0.2 civilization, you would have learned to manipulate fire, and use it to

be warm and cook and wear clothes to protect you from the harsh environment.

You use smoke signals to communicate with distant tribes, and evolve from just using

the resources available to you to manipulating them.

You will begin using metals instead of stones, and navigate through copper, bronze and iron ages

Now you begin to build large structures to harness water and wind power.

You slowly become an advanced civilization.

From Type 0.4 civilization, you will meet with something called Industrial Revolution

and soon you'd meet up with steam and electricity.

Once electricity comes into picture, you will evolve at an incredible rate.

The nuclear energy follows, which allows you to power your incredible cities and technologies.

But with a click of a button, you also now possess the power to destroy one another.

It's a test.

Would you be one as a family and proceed towards becoming Type 1 civilization or would you?

Even though Kardashev scale of intelligence is hypothetical, and it was created to demonstrate

the potential of human civilization, one thing remains to be certain.

Violence in any shape doesn't belong anywhere in this model.

If we aspire to advance and expand into this universe and understand it further, we should

take care of this pale blue dot first.

In order to protect our home, wars and violence among us should be the first thing to be extinguished.

I love producing this web series and I have a lot of fascinating things planned for this
