Electricity has allowed for some great things in our world, but it can also be pretty dangerous.
In the United States alone, a little under 100 people a year are killed from being electrocuted
in the workforce and about another 60 electrocutions occur from consumer products like power tools
and lighting equipment.
Electrocution is defined as when a person or animal is killed by electricity or an electric
shock.
But how exactly does electricity hurt someone?
Well, to understand that, let's take a step back and see how electricity is measured.
Volts and amperes, or amps, are typically ways engineers and scientists describe the
electrical phenomena of the world.
Amperes measure current flow, or how much electric charge flows through a point per
unit of time.
Electron flow is what typically causes harm to a person through tissue or nervous system
damage.
When flowing through the body in ways they aren't typically supposed to, electrons
can cause damages inside a person.
These include the burning of bodily tissues or interfering with essential electrical signals,
like the ones that cause the heart to beat.
Under certain conditions, a person's muscles will tense and clench, sometimes even preventing
them from letting go of the current source.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration gives some guidelines on just how dangerous
certain amperages are.
Currents at around 1 mA can cause tingling sensations, while currents above 75 mA can
potentially cause ventricular fibrillation, which may lead to death.
Severe tissue and organ burns typically begin at currents above 1500 mA.
But you have to take into account more than just the amperage when seeing how the current
of an electrical source will harm a person.
Theoretically, a small current could flow into one hand, directly through the heart,
and out the other hand and cause a person to die.
At the same time, an extremely large current from a lightning bolt could hit a person and
only cause bodily burns if it simply travels through the skin and not further inside a
person.
Certain body parts are also more susceptible to electric damage than others, with someone's
inner organs having far less resistance than their outer skin.
Wet skin also has way less resistance than dry skin.This is way people are at far greater
risks of electrocution when water is involved.
So obviously high amounts of electricity going through you is usually pretty bad, but is
there ever anything that can make a little electric kiss be a good thing?
All my Left 4 Dead fans know that there is; the defibrillator!
Modern-day defibrillators can vary quite a bit from what you see in video games, but
they are basically devices that deliver a therapeutic dose of electrical energy to a
person's heart in order to treat urgent medical conditions like sudden cardiac arrest.
Sudden cardiac arrest is a condition where a person's heart abruptly stops beating,
usually caused by ventricular fibrillation.
Without the use of things like CPR and a defibrillator, sudden cardiac arrest usually leads to a person's
death.
See, electricity can be a dangerous thing, but it can also save your life!

The Quest for Essences Episode 5 – Ylang Ylang in Nosy Be - Duration: 3:03.
The ylang flower is interesting because it has some similarities with jasmine,
but with a tropical aspect,
a hint of salt and a seaside influence,
while at the same time being fruity,
and this is interesting for our creations.
The ylang is one of the rare flowers that can be turned into an essence,
maybe because it is not a very colorful flower,
between yellow and green,
and it needs to stand out
to produce a powerful scent.
The culture is interesting because the trees can
grow to thirty meters high.
So to be able to harvest the flowers easily,
the branches are curved,
so that when one looks at an ylang ylang field,
one sees trees that looks like giants bonzais.
The ylang can be found almost everywhere in the Indian ocean,
but the reason why I get the ylang from Nosy Be island
is because its full traceability is guaranteed.
And this is important for us, because it is a matter of ethics,
but it also allows us to have the same quality from one year to another.
Once the harvest is completed, the flowers are rapidly transformed,
because with the heat, but also the light,
they deteriorate very quickly.
They are distilled, and turned into an essence.
This essence leaves Nosy Be untreated
and is reworked in Grasse,
where it is distilled again, divided, and reconstructed,
accentuating some aspects that are more interesting for me,
and particularly the salty note.

The algorithm that could help end partisan gerrymandering - Duration: 3:19.
Every 10 years after the Census, states redraw the borders of their legislative districts.
In most states, politicians get to control that process,
And if they're clever about how the districts are drawn... they can make it easier for their
own party to win more of them.
It's called "partisan gerrymandering" and it's bad for democracy, but the Supreme
Court hasn't intervened in decades.
the Supreme Court has yet to settle on a standard or definition of political fairness.
They just simply don't want to declare a partisan gerrymander without some way to measure them.
That's what Cho's research team is trying to fix...with a supercomputer.
[Vox] So we're trying to build a measurement tool
to help the court measure whether political parties have manipulated a map to gain an
unfair advantage.
In other words, they're making a gerrymandering ruler.
So when you re-district there's a phenomenal degree of possible manipulation.
Almost any shape you want to make is possible.
That's led to a bunch of oddly shaped districts.
The court wants to be able to determine the intent behind the district maps.
Basically they want to read the mind of the map drawer.
It doesn't have any way to do this.
The team started developing their tool by identifying what criteria are important to
the court.
Some criteria are required by law for instance we have to have about the same
number people in every district,
and all districts have to be contiguous.
Contiguous means they can't be broken up into a bunch of pieces, with some exceptions.
The court wants districts to preserve political subdivisions like cities, counties, municipal
boundaries...
Whenever you find an identifiable community of like minded individuals, the court likes
it when those people are kept together in the same district.
Wendy's team is using a supercomputer to generate district maps based on those criteria.
so we can create a million or billion maps using only the criteria required by law, and
the traditional districting principles.
And we don't use any political information.
... So these are by definition non partisan maps because they don't use political information.
If the current map doesn't look like any of the possibilities generated by the algorithm...
That's a good indication a partisan gerrymander has occurred.
If a billion of these different possible nonpartisan maps are really different from the map the
court is evaluating then the Supreme Court has some evidence that partisanship was part
of the motivation behind the alleged partisan gerrymander.
If we then have a computer draw another billion maps where we we actually code in partisan
information in addition to these other criteria that the court likes and those maps actually
appear similar to the map in question then the Supreme Court can rightly infer partisan
motivation.
Right now, there's no guarantee that this particular algorithm will ever be used as
evidence in a court argument.
But a handful of cases could be heard by the Court this year.

World of Tanks - Sandbox: Frontline - Duration: 9:16.
Hi, everyone! My name is Milos Jerabek.
I am the Development Director here in Minsk on World of Tanks PC.
And we have some news about our new game mode.
We were playing for a long time with the idea of a battle of many tanks at the same time.
You know, something where actually… it's not only 15:15,
but there's actually massive push towards one place, having a feeling of a great battle.
So we started developing this mode
after we decided to create and test a big map,
integrate this technology into World of Tanks,
and, accordingly, increase the number of players who battle on one map, on one arena.
Previously our limitation was 15:15
or the map of the size maximum of 1 kilometer to 1 kilometer.
Right now in any new mode that we will be actually testing on Sandbox,
our maintenance are going up,
so the mode's going to be 30:30 with a map almost of the size of 9 normal maps.
So we are talking about huge scale combat with various scenarios for both sides.
It's actually attack versus defense.
One side is actually defending a landing on the beach.
It should… almost remind us Omaha Beach,
the situation from the D-Day, when the Allies were coming to Europe.
We started looking into how can we actually scale up the team,
while, you know, using more experience from other studios.
Basically, bringing experience from outside to World of Tanks.
And Bongfish was actually one of the greatest teams to do so.
Over the years we worked together with various great partners
like Namco, Red Bull, Microsoft, and now with Wargaming.
Bongfish has great experience with making games.
And I think the strategic partnership to work with them
on the new mode for World of Tanks was a really great decision.
We don't treat them like outside partners: they're part of the team.
For us, they're like our colleagues here in Minsk,
only they are physically located in a different place.
All our teams, including level design specialists, developers, and game designers,
they all collaborate closely with these guys.
They have recurrent meetings and go to see each other.
We travel to see them, and other times the guys travel to Minsk to see us.
We are passionate about authentic gameplay in vast open spaces
and because we share this passion with Wargaming,
we have a great partnership on this.
So, of course, when we started working,
not everyone on Bongfish side were World of Tanks players,
but I must say, that changed very quickly.
I spoke with many of their guys, they visited us here, we visited them in Graz.
And I must say the team loves Tanks, they are really World of Tanks players, you know.
They have their heart in the right place, they understand the Tanks,
they understand the mentality of the players, how they play,
they ARE players in their own right now. And that's a great thing.
They all have developer accounts and they all play World of Tanks.
They take part in all play tests and, usually,
almost their entire team joins us on such occasions.
If we have a play test, all Bongfish guys attend it.
So what we've done at Bongfish is we already used existing features,
existing technologies from the BigWorld engine
and enabled them for the big maps.
Let's be honest, every single new thing at the beginning
was a bit clumsy, there were problems, it wasn't smooth.
But right now I am super happy,
our engineers are really happy to work with them,
the level designers are actually working with Bongfish
almost like it would be our own team.
The cooperation is great. And Bongfish is actually doing a great job
of working on the mode and understanding World of Tanks.
Occasionally we are having discussions about the play, discussion about new features,
and they are always content, they are always on the top of their game,
you know, telling us immediately their feedback:
what they would do, how they will actually integrate it into the mode.
It is great cooperation and I am really happy to see the guys at work.
Why are we rolling it out in the Sandbox?
There are two goals for us here.
First of all, we need to gather a bulk of data.
We need it for all things related to game balance, map balance,
so that we can look at the numbers and see,
"Ok, so players can't move further here. Something isn't right.
Their attack gets blocked."
Or learn, for instance, that in, let's say, 30% of situations the attacking side loses.
Secondly, we really need to collect feedback from players.
As developers, we're too immersed in our project:
we work on these features, process countless iterations,
and see all these things so many times that we might lose touch with reality at some point.
So, we need detached and impartial feedback from those people who play our game.
Because we're making this game for them.
Sandbox is intended for our core audience, our most loyal fans;
our hardcore players who always strive to improve the project.
Right now, we're rolling it out in the Sandbox to see if players will enjoy it.
We want to understand if it is exciting and learn how much time
our players are willing to spend on this new mode.
So I believe that Sandbox is a great platform.
It actually provides us with all the information we need from players.
I… You know, I am a player on my own.
When I started six years ago, a little bit more,
at the time of closed beta on the European server,
I still remember the times, when we were actually
sending feedback to developers, talking with them on forums,
and discussing the new features, new systems that were coming in play.
I would really love to bring this back home,
I would love to bring the connection between the developer and the gamer
just back to where it was six years ago, when the players actually felt like,
"By providing my feedback I can actually change something!"
We need the players' feedback.
Currently, the mode includes one big map,
with an area of three by three kilometers.
Each team has thirty players, so there are 60 players in a battle overall.
There'll be no economy for now, we'll work on it later.
The map available in the Sandbox is still a prototype, it's not a final version.
It'll be further improved and the release version will be different.
Of course, the distinction won't be too drastic,
but certainly, those who try it in Sandbox and then play it after the release,
they'll notice the changes made to the map.
For them, those changes will be apparent and very visible.
And we have most of the core mechanics implemented
so there's the respawn, there's the system of pushing the bases,
unlocking bombardment in case they actually take over our base
and the enemy actually needs to push back the defender.
During the battle, you will have a strategic map
and you can use it to plan out your battle.
We've designed the game in such a way that there is a front line there.
At the beginning of a battle, only one line is available to a player.
To unlock other lines, players must capture all bases.
Players will see right on the tactical map
which zones are already available to them,
which zones are still closed,
which zones have been captured and unlocked.
It is of key importance for this mode that we managed
to create dynamic battles thanks to specific gameplay elements
like time limits, points of interest, and objectives that we set for players.
These features push players to keep moving forward, without stalling.
During internal tests,
this trait was noted as one of the most positive features of the game mode.
It's really the fierce tank action that we strived for:
extremely fun to play, players always have opponents to fight,
and there are so many strategic and tactical decisions to make!
The game is really cool thanks to all these things.
We don't yet know how this mode will look in production.
This is why we need Sandbox:
to check how players feel about this mode, how they feel about the gameplay,
and how much time they are willing to spend on it.

So many of you who are watching my video seem to like Korea so much!
If you listen to Kpop or watch Kdrama
Korea seems to be romantic and exiting
And people seem to like Korea because of those things!
Today, I'm thinking to break some fantasies of Korea!! (Dun dun dun)
I'm going to tell you 5 things that I don't like about Korea :)
First thing
It's a very big problem nowadays
The AIR pollution!
People who have watched my Vlogs or followed my Instagram would know this
I'm wearing masks on the streets all the time
Air condition in Korea is extremely poor nowadays
I think it was from last year that the air condition became poor
So called fine dust and ultrafine particles are floating in the air
It's really hard to breathe well outside T-T
Every single day
It's not even yellow dust. Fine dust is worse than that and it's everywhere everyday
Seoul is selected as one of the top 3 cities that have the worst air condition in the world hahaha.... :(
Second thing: It's too cold in winter, and it's too hot in summer
Winter in Korea is super cold
For example, it goes minus 10 degree in winter
But you actually feel that it's like minus 20 degree because it's super windy and dry
Personally I find it really difficult to put makeups because it's too dry
And just because it's cold outside, if you wear too many clothes
You'll going to regret
I use the subway a lot. Subways or buses
If you get in the office or the lecture room if you are student, it's tooooo hot
Since the outside is terribly cold, people turn on the heater too much and it's not warm. It's too hot inside!
Contrary, in summer it's too hot
The temperature goes up more than 30 degree but unlikely to winter, it's toooo humid
So it's too unpleasant if you bump into someone (because it's too humid)
And if you wear just sleeveless shirts because it's too hot outside, indoor places will be too cold to you
And one BIG reason that I hate summer is because of: TOO MANY mosquitos!!!!
When I lived in England, I was shocked
There's no mosquitos in summer!
There even once I told to my friend that there were too many mosquitos in summer in Korea,
He replied me asking "What's mosquitos?"
I lived in England in 2013
And I thought the summer in England was awesome
It was hot, but if you are in the shadow, it gets cool
Ironically, there were news in 2013,
More than 700 English people died because the heatwave in that 2013 summer
I don't know if that number's true, but I thought if Korea had this summer, it would be a heaven.
Third thing: People mind other people's businesses too much
For example, if someone sees their friends gained weight
What?! How would you gain so much weight like this?!
You gained weight because you are eating these things!
They might say this straight away
If you put too much makeup,
Hey your makeup is too thick!
They might say this
And if you look tired or if you have dark circles under your eyes
Omg look at your dark circles! It's too obvious!
You look too tired!
They will say this(so often)
And there's some steps that people mind other's businesses
First step: when you are a student
You should study well to go to good university!
You are a high school student and you want to hang out with friends?!
Second step: if you've got into university
You should study hard to get into good companies!
Why do you want to play games!? You are a university student! (Grow up!)
Hang out with your friends when you get into the company and have time for weekends
Third step: If you get a job
Are you saving money well?
If you want to get married, you should save much money
But I think you are always hanging out with your friends and wasting money! How can you get married later?
Stop acting like a child! Adults don't play games. Come on!
Forth step: When you get married
So you bought a house? You didn't?!
When are you going to have babies?
You know it's bad to have babies when you get old
Fifth step: After having a baby
When are you having a second child?
This goes on and on
Later, when children grow up
Do they study well?
You should send your children to private academies! Or they won't go to the good high schools
This is driving me crazy.......
Forth thing: Women's right
This is one of the hot issues in Korea nowadays (I'm going to speak English because I'm scared of Koreans lol)
Korea is a very conservative country
When I went to a good university in Seoul,
Someone said to me like this
Oh you are so pathetic! Think about this
When you graduate from the university
You are at least 24(Korean age :D)
Let's say, if you take an year out
You'll be at least 25, when you graduate from your university
You know, the value of women decrease from the age 25!
Women are like Christmas cakes
After 25, if women couldn't get married, they are all stocks that aren't sold
You shouldn't have to go to the university
Just seek for men!
He told me like this in front of many people, right at my face
Women are Christmas cakes. This expression is very well-known in Korea
I guess you want to know what men are
Men are wines because their values go up as they age
And I really love playing PC games
And if you get caught you are a woman playing games(in games)
especially Overwatch(That I play very often)
Some men will talk about this like,
"Don't play games woman!"
Oh we are going to lose the game because there's a woman in our team!
This really happens (even today it happened again FXXK)
Fifth thing: Some stupid laws that protect criminals
Sometimes law in Korea seems to be stupid
For example, if someone attack the other person,
He might be put in a jail for 5 years and less, or be fined to pay 30 million won and less by law
But if you were drunk when you attacked the other person!
Oh you were drunk at that time!
Then you couldn't make the rational decision because of alcohol!
Then we will reduce the penalty for you :D
Because of this, there once this happened.
There was a cartoonist and he had a hater
And one day that hater decided to attack the cartoonist
When the cartoonist was playing games in the PC room, the hater attacked him
And he said to the cartoonist, "Call the police!"
Until then, he was completely sober
When the police came, something strange happened
The hater was lying on the ground, and acting like he was drunk
When the cartoonist called the police and went to the toilet, the hater drank alcohol on purpose
And when the police came, he acted like he was so drunk
When he arrived to the police station, he said like
Did I attack a person? I DID?!
I can't remember a thing because of alcohol!
I don't know how this case was closed specifically
but just like him, there are some people who use the 'feeble-minded person law'
because we consider drunk people as one of them and protect them
One more, I think court ruling in Korea is too weak
For example, if a person kills the other person because of drunk driving
The drivers only have to be in a jail for 1 to 1 and half a year FOR AVERAGE!
Because he was DRUNK when he was driving
So these were the 5 things I don't like about Korea!

I just know for sure

1:42 Scale. Cruiser Askold
In the 9th century, Askold, the legendary ruler of Kiev,
crossed the Black Sea with his troops,
leading the first Rus' attack on Constantinople,
the capital of the Byzantine Empire.
A thousand years later, the name Askold was heard again on the seas.
It was given to a 1st rank protected cruiser of the Imperial Russian Navy,
a hero of two wars, and the favorite ship of the Emperor of Russia, Nicholas II.
At the end of the 19th century,
the Russian Empire was preparing for an inevitable confrontation with Japan.
In 1897, a special program
of "accelerated shipbuilding for the needs of the Russian Far East" was adopted.
Within this program, the naval command drew up technical requirements
for a 1st rank cruiser that would carry out long range reconnaissance for a squadron.
It was to be faster and more powerful than British and Japanese cruisers.
Germany shipyard owned by the famous Krupp company
was one of the winners of the international project's contest.
Work began on October 24, 1898,
as soon as Krupp plants delivered the first shipment of metal,
even before the design documentation got the final approval.
Two months later, the cruiser was named Askold.
Length: 131.2 meters
Beam: 16.9 meters
Draft: 6.2 meters
Total displacement by project: 6,000 tons
The long and narrow hull of the cruiser with destroyer-like proportions
had excellent sea-going capability
and a power plant producing 23,500 horsepower,
which allowed her to develop a maximum speed of 24 knots.
The best nickel steel in the world, produced by Krupp factories,
was used to build the cruiser.
The armored turtle deck— the main protection element—
was from 40 to 100 millimeters thick.
The conning tower was armored with 150-millimeter plates.
The cruiser's artillery was quite powerful for her displacement.
When Askold was commissioned, she had twelve 152-millimeter
and twelve 75-millimeter Canet guns on board.
Apart from that, she carried another 13 small-caliber cannons and two machineguns.
Traditionally for the time, six torpedo tubes were installed in the Askold's hull.
They had no real combat value and most of them were removed
during repairs after the Russo-Japanese War.
During construction, the cruiser's project continued
to be modified according to the demands of the Russian navy.
For example, the location of the forecastle gun was changed
to increase the seagoing capabilities.
However, shipbuilders firmly refused to reduce the number of smokestacks,
fearing that it would impair the speed.
That's how the cruiser received her unique five-stack silhouette.
After Askold's sea trials, Nikolai Reytsenshtein
the head of the inspection board and the first captain of the ship,
wrote in his report,
"The Navy receives the fastest cruiser in the world."
On January 12, 1902, St. Andrew's flag,
jack, and pennant were raised on the ship during a solemn ceremony.
Soon after that, she sailed to Kronstadt
where the brand new cruiser was honored twice with a visit from Emperor Nicholas II.
She then faced a serious trial in the form of a six-month cruise
across three oceans to the Russian Far East.
Askold accomplished it with ease
and showed the impeccable reliability and high efficiency of all ship systems.
In February 1903, the cruiser arrived at Port Arthur
and joined the Pacific squadron.
The Russo-Japanese War was less than a year away.
In the evening of January 26, 1904,
Askold was the closest to the Japanese destroyers
that staged a surprise attack on Russian ships in Port Arthur's harbor,
but thanks to her well-trained crew, she managed to avoid any damage.
The next morning, Askold, together with other cruisers,
daringly attacked the main forces
of the Japanese fleet that approached Port Arthur,
in an attempt to draw the enemy's attention and give the Russian ironclads
a chance to form the battle line.
Several months of intense combat service later,
Askold had her moment of glory.
On July 28, the Russian squadron exited the harbor
to try to break through to Vladivostok
Askold led the line ahead of the cruiser squadron,
under the broad pennant of her former captain,
now Rear Admiral, Nikolai Reytsenstein.
During the day, the main forces of the Japanese and Russian fleets
clashed in a firefight twice.
At 18:30, the critical moment of the battle came:
the Russian flagship lost control
and the remaining ironclads turned back towards Port Arthur.
By that time, the broken formation of Russian ships
was surrounded by 45 enemy ships.
Then, Admiral Reytsenstein on the Askold's battle bridge,
decided to lead a breakthrough, drawing the enemy fire
and disregarding its own safety.
The signal "cruisers follow me" rose on the foremast,
smokestacks spewed black smoke, and Askold rushed towards the enemy.
Thanks to her speed, excellent maneuverability, and firing accuracy,
the cruiser managed to survive under a hail of fire from the Japanese ships.
Showered with shells, Askold led the battle from both sides.
Her hull shook tremendously from each shell hit,
but Askold steamed ahead at full speed, directly towards the Japanese ships
that tried to turn and get out of the Russian cruiser's way.
The pursuit continued throughout the night.
By the following morning, the last Japanese ships had fallen behind
and disappeared beyond the horizon,
having lost the battle against Askold's engines.
However, the Russian cruiser paid a high price for her heroic breakthrough.
Her hull had many breaches, only four of the main guns remained operational,
and 60 crewmen were killed or wounded.
Without the ability to fight her way to Vladivostok,
Askold had to be interned in the neutral Shanghai.
After the war with Japan and until 1914,
Askold was the flagship of the Siberian flotilla
and the biggest Russian warship in the Far East.
The years during World War I became the most difficult
and eventful in the entire service of the cruiser.
She swept the Pacific Ocean in search of coal vessels
that supplied the German ships of Admiral Von Spee
escorted convoys with Australian troops in the Indian Ocean,
bombarded German and Turkish coastal defenses in the Mediterranean,
and participated in the famous Dardanelles Campaign.
And in all these theaters of war, Askold was the main
or even the only representative of the Imperial Russian Navy.
From August 1914 to December 1915,
the cruiser's crew spent 294 days under general quarters,
with crews manning guns.
The ship fired twice as many shells than during her previous service,
including the Russo-Japanese War,
and all this without serious breakdowns and losses.
However, the intense service took its toll. The elderly cruiser spent 1916 in Toulon,
where she underwent a complete overhaul.
In December 1916, Askold was assigned to the Arctic Ocean flotilla.
But on her way from Toulon, the cruiser was hit by a severe storm
and required further repairs in England.
It wasn't until 1917 that Askold entered the harbor of Murmansk
thus returning to Russia after crossing half of the world
and sailing thousands of miles.
In her homeland, the cruiser was engulfed by the whirlwind of the Civil War.
In 1920, Askold was seized by the British,
and in 1922 she was repurchased by the Soviet government,
but she was in bad shape and sold for scrap to Germany.
The famous Russian shipbuilder Alexey Krylov
who had sailed aboard the ship on her first voyage to the Far East,
witnessed the famous cruiser enter a dock in Hamburg where she was scrapped.
Thus ending the service record of the ship that Russian sailors called lucky.

Any Fischer family event...
...a lot of times it happened at my grandma and grandpa's house
This house was actually designed by my grandfather
My dad grew up in this house with his brother Don
At Christmas time they would always put up a tree...
...and my grandpa would put a train around the tree...
...and we would have like a special grandma-grandpa Christmas
My sister Emily...
...had a particularly special relationship...
...with our grandpa
...and so the house always meant so much to her
So then when my grandma said that she was ready to sell...
...her and her husband bought the house...
...and we were all really excited
...that the house was gonna stay in the family
The house worked okay for them at first...
...because they were just a newly married couple...
...but now, they're a family of four and as each kid came...
...that house started to feel more cramped
When I think of my sister...
...I think of acts of service
Emily is a school teacher
She'll stay after school to tutor kids or...
She works with this great group called Girls on the Run...
...that's just all about...
...trying to enhance the self-esteem of middle school girls
It comes so naturally to her to put herself last
I think that's just the thing about her that I admire so much
And so this is all about really giving to Emily...

...the type of renovation that will make Emily's life easier...
...and Emily's life more comfortable
When I was growing up...
...and visiting my grandparents in that house...
...they treated the dining room like a formal dining room...
...but that's not how my sister uses it
The dining room has really oversized furniture
The kitchen needs new appliances they're from the '80s
But the biggest thing about the kitchen...
...is how completely closed off it is from the rest of the house...
...and there's just kind of a mismatch aspect...
...to the living room right now
I live in Los Angeles
This house is in St. Louis
It's not going to help me to hire an LA designer

How-To Bake Curves Into Polymer Clay Pieces - Duration: 8:23.
Hi guys, it's Cindy Lietz, your Polymer
Clay Tutor. In today's Studio Tip, I'm going to
show you how to bake curves into polymer
clay. Now one of the really cool things
about polymer clay is that it is
flexible, but if you bake the curve into
the polymer clay, it'll stay that way, so...
And it's very easy to do, there's a whole
bunch of different options that you can
do this with. Now first, let me just show
you some examples of pieces that I have
made that have a curve in it, so you know
what I'm talking about. OK, so this
bracelet down here, this was done with
the Faux Flaking Rust Tutorial that I
have, but you can see that each one of
these little tiles has a bit of a curve
in it that will make the bracelet sit
down on your wrist really nicely when
it's wrapped around. So that would be one
reason why you might want to bake a
curve into your pieces. Here's another
couple of bracelets with curves baked
into them, these medallions on the
bracelets are from a faux... oh it wouldn't
Faux Enamel Tutorial that I have and like
a Viking knit one so it's kind of cool.
but that... there was a curve baked in
those. This here is a pendant made with a
Faux Abalone Technique and I also have
a curve baked into the back of this
piece so that it feels more like a shell
when you're wearing it. It looks like a
shell, feels like a shell but it isn't.
These little earrings we're done with
kind of an inked technique with some
translucent over top but they've got a
curve in their backs as well. And that
just gives them a little bit more
dimension, a little more shape, and just a
little bit more interest. These hollow
beads here are hollow lentil beads, these
particular ones I made in the faux... which
one was that, that was the Reptile Cane
Tutorial, and these are Hollow and light
as a feather. And they were baked on one
of these forms here. So let me just show
you the different
types of options that you can use for
baking curves into your polymer clay.
Now, as long as the item can go into a low
temperature oven, you can bake on it, usually.
So that includes metal, paper,
believe it or not, and I'll talk about
that in a minute, light bulbs. Now these
older style light bulbs, not the
fluorescent ones or anything with
plastic in them, but these old glass ones.
Whatever shape you want whether they're
cylinder, or flood lights, or little
chandelier lights, or the more normal
round ones, just wait till they burn out
and keep them and you can bake your
polymer clay on them. And they can handle
the heat because they get hot themselves
when they are lit. Another cool option is
to use the bottoms of pop cans, I cut the
bottoms off of these and they... you can
use either the... this dome part of it or
the sunken part and they're great
because they're small, they all
stack together, so you can use a whole
bunch of them and they're flat.
Other options are glass or ceramic, this is a
ceramic bowl, you can bake on to the side
of it, I'll cut a piece out in a second
to show you kind of how they lay on.
And this is an old antique egg, I'm not sure
if you put the whole egg in it or what
you do, but I know it's for eggs, not sure
how you use it but it's really cool. I've
had it for years, my mom had it in her
stuff and it was just pretty because of
this copper, you could bake on this
either on the top side or on the inside
and then you could also bake on wood as
well. So something like this little
wooden egg, you could bake your cur... you
could bake your clay onto it. When you've
got your piece, here I'm just going to
take a sheet of... I have a piece here that
I did some stenciling on and some stuff.
And I'll just cut a piece out so I can
give you an idea what it would look like
on these forms. So you just cut out your
clay whatever shape that it is that you
want, and then you can lay it on whatever
piece that you want. Now depending on the
shape of your form, you're going to get a
different type of dome. so if you're on a
small circle form like this, it's going
to end up with more of a dome in the
center and you're going to have to kind
of press it down to stick a bit. If you
have something like this, this is a
toilet paper roll cut in half, you can
actually just lay your piece on that.
And it will bake on there nicely. Another
option is like I said, these are...
this is a great idea, these are the
really thick cardboard tubes from the
center of duct tape, packing tape, that
kind of tape. And if you cut it into
three, I cut this into three, you can get
three different forms from it. So I've got
three from one form. And then what I did
was I wrapped it in just a sheet of
office paper, a little strip of office
paper, and put a piece of tape underneath
to hold it on there. And that way, when
you stick your clay piece onto it,
it has a really smooth back to it, and it
isn't going to stick to that cardboard,
and you can peel it off of there. Now
like I said, these... because we bake
polymer clay at such low temperatures,
265F, 275F, the highest set of all the
clays is about 300F. Polymer, I mean paper has no
problem in the oven at that temperature,
as long as you keep it away from any of
the burners so make sure that you put it
in your baking tray. I should probably...
Well I haven't done that. If you have a
baking tray, put it in the baking tray,
still put your tin foil lid over top
I've got baking videos by the tons,
you'll want to check those out if you
haven't baked anything in polymer clay.
But you would still put this inside your
baking tray and put the foam or
the foil pan over the top to protect it.
But it'll be fine in the oven. Things
like this, if you want to bake on the
curve, you can. Or on the top depending on
the shape. If you're doing a round piece,
you can put it right on the top, you
sometimes have to get them to stick down
a little to the p... to whatever form that
you're getting, you're putting your piece
on. But it's really cool, you'll get all
kinds of different options. You can even
take a bowl like this, let's take a whole
bunch of pieces to the side. So just look
around your house, look for something
that has a nice pleasant curve that can
handle going into the oven, and you can
bake your polymer clay pieces on it.
And they will stay curved after they're
baked. So I hope that was really helpful

IN GENERAL ARE REALLY CENTRAL TO THE PROBLEMS FACING THE WORLD.
I MEAN, WE SEE THE RAISE OF TRUMP HERE.
WE SEE NIGEL FARAGE, WE SEE BREXIT, LE PEN, EVEN THE THINGS
OF ISIS, YOU CAN PAINT -- REALLY DRAW A LINE TO THIS MASSIVE
ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION WHICH HAS ROILED THE WORLD.
SO THE PARTY DOESN'T NEED TO CHANGE WHAT THEY'RE ABOUT IN
TERMS OF RACE AND GENDER AND THOSE INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT
ISSUES. BUT WHAT WE DO NEED IS A
PROSCRIPTION FOR DEALING WITH THIS ECONOMIC MESS.
AND SAYING YOU'RE GOING TO LIFT THE MINIMUM WAGE IS NOT ENOUGH.
I MEAN, IF YOU'RE SOMEONE, YOU'RE DRIVING A TRUCK LET'S
SAY, YOU HAVE A MIDDLE CLASS LIFE, NOW THAT JOB IS BEING
THREATENED BY AUTOMATION, YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR, WELL, I'LL
GET YOU $15 AND A MINIMUM WAGE. YOU WANT TO HEAR HOW YOU'RE ABLE
TO REACHIEVE THAT MIDDLE CLASS LIFE AND THAT STABILITY THAT YOU
HAVE COME TO DEPEND ON AND YOU HAVE COME TO BE USED TO.
WHAT I WANT IS FOR THE PARTY TO FIGURE OUT HOW WE CAN FOCUS ON
THAT ECONOMIC SOLUTION THAT'S GOING TO INCLUDE PROSPERITY THAT
HELPS ALL AMERICAN WORKERS TO SUCCEED IN THIS COUNTRY.
>> AND WHEN YOU LOOK -- IF YOU LOOK AT DONALD TRUMP'S MARGINS,
HE BARELY WON IN SOME OF THE STATES LIKE PENNSYLVANIA,
MICHIGAN, WISCONSIN. HE WON BY THE TINY MARGINS BUT
YOU KNOW I THINK ONE OF THE CHALLENGES IS THAT PEOPLE LOOK
AT THE MARGINS AND THEY SAY, WAIT A MINUTE.
THIS ISN'T BECAUSE DONALD TRUMP IS A REAL CHAMPION OF THE
WORKING CLASS. IT'S BECAUSE WHITE VOTERS IN
GENERAL ARE JUST REPUBLICANS AND THERE IS NO MESSAGE EVEN IF
YOU'RE SAYING WE WON'T MAKE YOU KANSAS.
KANSANS VOTE FOR REPUBLICANS AND THEY KNOW THAT DEMOCRATS SAY --
SAVED THE AUTO INDUSTRY. BUT THEY WANT TO VOTE FOR
REPUBLICANS EVEN IF YOU GAVE THEM AN ECONOMIC ARGUMENT THEY
WANT THE WALL. THEY WANT DEPORTATIONS.
>> I LIVE IN KENTUCKY NOW AS YOU KNOW.
THE INTERESTING THING HERE IS THAT DEMOCRATS STILL WIN.
WE JUST HAD A DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR LAST TIME AROUND AND HE
WAS JUST RECENTLY OUSTED. WE JUST LOST CONTROL OF THE
HOUSE. YOU STILL HAVE DEMOCRATS WHO WIN
IN PLACES LIKE EAST KENTUCKY AT THE STATE LEVEL.
BUT THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY, THE BRAND IMAGE IN THIS
PART OF THE COUNTRY HAS REALLY TAKEN A BIG BEATING AND THERE'S
A SENSE THAT THERE'S A CONDESCENSION FROM THE NATIONAL
PARTY, THEY LOOK DOWN ON VOTERS IN COAL COUNTRY AND HAVE AN
ATTITUDE OF WELL, THEY'RE NEVER GOING TO VOTE FOR US ANYWAYS SO
WE MIGHT AS WELL WRITE THEM OFF. NOW, MAYBE THEY WON'T COME
AROUND. MAYBE I'M COMPLETELY WRONG.
BUT I THINK IF YOU ENGAGE WITH THE ECONOMIC ISSUES THAT ARE
MAKING LIFE TOUGH IN THESE REGIONS OF THE COUNTRY, I THINK
YOU HAVE A SHOT AT WINNING BACK THE VOTERS AND I THINK WE HAVE
TO LOOK AT THE TYPE OF THE CANDIDATES THAT WE'RE RUNNING.
WE TEND VO THIS PARTICULAR -- TEND TO HAVE THIS PARTICULAR
LENS OF LEADERSHIP. WE LOVE PEOPLE WHO ARE EDUCATED
AT HARVARD, THE IVY LEAGUE. THOSE FOLKS ARE FANTASTIC BUT WE
NEED TO LOOK AT PEOPLE WHO HAVE LIVED THE EXPERIENCE OF THE
AMERICAN WORKER. WE NEED TO LOOK AT THE LABOR
COMMITTEE FOR THE LOCAL LEADERS, WE NEED TO LOOK AT NURSES AND
TEACHERS AND PEOPLE WHO HAVE SERVED IN THE MILITARY WHO CAN
CONNECT ON THE CULTURAL LEVEL BETTER WITH THEIR COMMUNITIES.

WHO PRETENDED TO AND NOW HE'S THE CHAMPION OF THE WORKING
POOR. EVEN THOUGH LIKE YOU SAID THAT'S
NOT ENTIRELY ACCURATE. BUT YOU KNOW THEY WERE JUST
DESPERATE FOR SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN I THINK IN A LOT OF
INSTANCES. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN, FOR
SOMEBODY TO BELIEVE IN THEM BASICALLY.
>> JASON, IS THERE -- DO YOU HAVE A CONCERN THAT THE
DEMOCRATIC PARTY IN TRYING TO FIND THIS ALCHEMY, TO FIND THIS
FORMULA TO WIN BACK WHITE VOTERS, TO HAVE A MESSAGE THAT'S
INCLUSIVE AND TRAE SAID THAT'S CONCERNED ABOUT THEM THAT THEY
NEGLECT THEIR BASE, MEANING NEGLECTING PEOPLE OF COLOR?
>> YEAH, JOY, THAT CAN BE IN THE LAB WITH A PEN AND A PAD WORKING
ON THE BEST FEATURES IN THE WORLD.
IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT THESE PEOPLE -- WHEN HAVE WE
EVER HAD AN AMERICAN ELECTION THAT WASN'T ABOUT WHITE WORKING
CLASS PEOPLE? WHETHER IT WAS REAGAN DEMOCRATS
OR NASCAR DADS, THAT'S WHAT EVERYONE IS TRYING TO GET AND
THEY DON'T LIKE TO VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS.
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU SAY OR DO.
SO WHAT I THINK THE DEMOCRATS SHOULD FOCUS ON IS LOOK, STRONG
ECONOMIC POLICY, MAKING SURE WE RESPECT THE PEOPLE CULTURALLY
AND IT WAS GREAT THAT YOU SHOWED THOSE MARGINS THERE.
YOU KNOW WHAT THOSE MARGINS IN WISCONSIN WERE AND THOSE MARGINS
IN MICHIGAN AND THOSE MARGINS IN PENNSYLVANIA, THOSE WERE PEOPLE
WHO HAD BEEN EXPUNGED FROM VOTER ROLLS.

Hey guys, it's Hannah. I know we're
about to have coffee talk right now.
So it's been seven years since my
diagnosis of bipolar 2, since I left the
hospital, the place I lived. If you're
confused about what I'm talking about,
try and catch up and subscribe to my
YouTube channel, take a look back at
previous videos. But this is about
acknowledging the past. This past summer,
I got to go to a reunion and see all
my friends. They're my best friends.
They're like my sisters. And I was at a place in
my life where it's time to
acknowledge the things that I had done;
the behaviors, what went on with my
bipolar disorder that affected them.
What I found out, that I was surprised,
is that the hurt they felt was because they
felt like they were bad friends;
because I felt like I
couldn't come to them and I was like: "No,
no, no. It wasn't you." And that had really
hurt them because I just left
and didn't say a word.
Another person that I reached out to,
actually a couple of years ago, was
this guy that I was romantically
involved with. You know, it was a college
romance. Nothing crazy. No Romeo and
Juliet stuff. But he was such a good guy.
So a couple of years after my diagnosis,
I actually wrote him a letter, well I
actually sent him an email. But I found the
outline in one of my old journals and
thought I would just share a couple of
lines. I can't believe it was there. "My
intention through this letter is to
simply apologize. Although I did not mean
to hurt you and take advantage of your
kindness, I'm still responsible for bringing
pain into another person's life;
especially someone who was kind to me at
a time that I was not kind to myself." The
situation with him made me see the side
that it was very real to me. That I was
sick. Because I lost, I was losing a part
of me that I pride myself on in that
trying to be kind to people no matter
what and being selfless not selfish. And
at that time in my life, I didn't care
about myself. And when it started to leak
onto other people.
And I was cold. I just was like,
"That's not right". I know a lot of people
have experience with this and trying to
acknowledge the past. Please share
