Hey guys!
So this video is a little bit of a different format from usual, so I thought I would do
a quick intro/explanation for you.
If you guys have followed my channel for a while, you'll know that something I love about
living in Japan is seasonal snacks and drinks, and spring is my absolute favourite season
for many reasons, including the snacks and drinks.
So this spring I decided I would make kind of a compilation video of some of the snacks
that you can get during spring in Japan and I also inserted some blossom update footage
throughout spring for you guys.
So I hope that you'll enjoy it, let me know what you think of the new format, and I will
get started.
Peace!
Hey guys, so I have your first blossom update here.
Not sure if this one should be called a blossom update, as obviously there are no flowers
on this whatsoever.
So it's currently the first week of March, and this is what we have...a whole lot of
nothing.
But they come out pretty quickly, and they leave pretty quickly too, so I will keep you
updated.
Hey guys, so I have our first sakura themed thing to try today, and that is the konbini
version of the Starbucks sakura drink for this year.
So if you don't know, Starbucks Japan releases two specialty drinks per season, or sometimes
more, but two specialty drinks - one that they release in store, and then one that they
release in convenience stores, and this is of course the convenience store version.
This year's is sakura and raspberry milk, and it says that it has milk jelly in it.
So I'm pretty interested in that.
I'm really glad it doesn't have coffee in it this year, because, um, the last two years
have been like coffee and sakura or coffee and strawberry, and I'm not a huge fan of
coffee and those flavour mixes just sound terrible to me.
So this one actually sounds really good and I'm pretty excited to try it.
So let's get into it.
Let's give it a go!
Oh wow.
This is like definitely my favourite Starbucks convenience store drink that i've ever tried.
It kinda just tastes like really really good, really creamy raspberry milk, and it has like
milk purin in it as well, and it's like...I don't know how they've got the milk purin
like smooth enough to go through this tiny tiny straw, but somehow they have and it tastes
amazing.
I guess like the one disappointing thing about it would be that it doesn't really have much
to do with sakura like...at all.
Except that I guess raspberries are pink and so is sakura, but of course it does have this
like super cute sakura packaging.
Anyway, this is amazing, highly highly recommend if you wanna try it.
Again, so so glad they didn't go with the coffee flavour this time.
This one is much much better in my opinion.
Okay, I guess that is it for our first sakura themed snack, or drink in this case.
Until I find our next one, I will talk to you later.
Peace!
Okay guys, it is the last week of March and here are the sakura flowers at the moment.
As you can see...they aren't quite out yet, but you can see the inside of the petals starting
to come out.
Very excited, they should be out within a week now.
So I will keep you updated.
Hey guys!
So I just got home and I picked this up on the way.
It's not like specifically spring themed in terms of flavour, but this is something that
Haagen-Dazs Japan does every spring, so it counts, right?
And this is their kinako kuromitsu mochi ice cream.
So it's kinako flavoured with kuromitsu, which is, um, brown sugar, and then it has mochi
on top of the ice cream.
So I'm going to try this today.
Let's get into it!
So here it is when you open it up, and as you can see, the mochi on top here, this is
mochi, and it's covered in kinako powder, and I loooove kinako flavoured things.
And then undreneath here is the kinako and brown sugar flavoured ice cream.
So let's give it a go.
Okay you guys, so here we go, I'm gonna get some of this mochi.
Waaahh!
Okay...
What I don't really understand is how is the mochi not frozen?
Like the mochi is always soft, and then the ice cream underneath is ice cream.
So however Haagen-Dazs has done this, that is like genius.
Anyway, the mochi is delicious, it has kinako powder all over it.
Um, if you haven't tried kinako before, it's kind of like...um, tastes a bit like brown
sugar, caramel, and coffee?
It's like a difficult flavour to describe, but I really love it, and if you come to Japan
I would recommend trying something kinako flavoured.
Okay, I'm gonna try some of the ice cream now.
Oop!
So the ice cream is a little bit more sweet than the mochi, and I think that's where they
put the brown sugar, just to give it a little bit more of that caramel molasses flavour.
But yeah, overall this is really delicious.
If you come to Japan in spring, do try to find the Haagen-Dazs version.
Um, there's also...oh no, I forgot what flavour it is.
It's something and walnut mochi ice cream that they have as well.
I got the kinako one because, as I keep saying, I love kinako.
Um, but there's also a walnut one if you wanna try that one.
But yeah, mochi icre cram from Haagen-Dazs, very very good.
Thank you Haagen-Dazs!
This is the blossom update for the first of April, as you can see, I would say about a
third of the sakura flowers are out right now, and of course there's many more to come,
so I will keep you updated!
Okay you guys, I have today's spring themed snack ready.
So apart from sakura and peach flavours, there's also another flavour that's very popular in
Japan around spring time, and that is ume, or Japanese plum flavour.
I actually like this a lot more than sakura and peach, because generally I'm a savoury
person more than a sweet person, so I'm pretty excited for these.
These say they are very sour ume flavour, so I'm quite excited for that.
Let's give them a try!
Okay, so here is our chip.
I'm not gonna lie, it kinda just smells like a ready salted chip and looks like a ready
salted chip, but I'm gonna give it a go.
Usually ume doesn't have like that much of a scent, but then you can really taste it
so I'm hoping that's what this is.
Anyway...
Woah.
Yep!
Yeah, that's exactly what it was.
Mmm!
Sour.
Okay, so I think they have some konbu flavour in there as well, which is like seaweed that
usually goes with ume flavour.
Um, you can definitely taste it, even though they didn't put it on the package.
And the ume flavour really comes through.
It is, as they said, quite sour, but I love that so it's perfect.
Uh, yeah, if you like ume flavour, definitely try these, they're out for like a really long
time in spring, and a lot of different chip companies do them, it's just this was the
one I happened to find today.
So yeah, there's my ume flavoured snack for this spring.
God I love ume.
And I will talk to you with the next snack.
Peace!
Blossom update, fifth of April.
Most of the flowers are out now, and they're looking beautiful as always.
This is peak season for sakura, so enjoy these beautiful flowers.
Hey guys!
So this is today's spring themed snack, and this is something I've never actually seen
before.
I don't really know what it is.
I mean, it says here it's a soufflé, and it has two flavours, one is sakura and the
other one is yomogi, which I had to look up, I had no idea what it was.
Turns out in English I think it's Artemisia, it's a type of plant, and I've never heard
of anything being Artemisia flavoured in English, so kinda interested to try it.
But I thought they looked really cute, and they're obviously spring themed, so I figured
I'd give them a go.
Plus I've never had, um, I've never had a Japanese soufflé before, so I don't really
know what to expect.
Let's give them a go.
Okay, so I'm gonna try the green one first, just because, again, no idea what this flavour
is gonna be.
Uh, when I took it out you can see it's kind of like a little soufflé sandwich, with some
sort of filling, so who knows, I'm gonna give it a go!
Hmm...
Gonna be honest, I still don't know what Artemisia or yomogi is supposed to taste like.
This kind of just tastes like generically sweet.
The filling has, um, it's pink, and it has little bits of azuki in it.
Like it's not...it's not bad, like it tastes good, it just...it kind of just tastes like
vanilla or like just, as I said, generic kind of sweet flavour.
Okay so that's the green one.
I'm gonna try the sakura one, just in case it has a flavour to it, but I'm not really
expecting it to at this point.
Let me just get it out.
So here's the pink one, and as you can see it's the same filling, with just a different
colour soufflé.
I was expecting it to taste exactly the same, but actually the pink soufflé does taste
like it has that sakura extract in it from the petals, it has that same like slightly
spiced um cinnamon taste to it, so this one is really good.
I just wish I knew what Artemisia tasted like, that's the only thing I'm taking out of this
experience is I need to know what Artemisia tastes like.
But anyway, yeah, this one is sakura flavoured, and super cute, so I enjoyed this.
Um, I will look out for more yomogi flavoured things and try to actually taste Artemisia
at some point.
Okay, that is it for my sakura themed food for the day, I will talk to you next time.
Peace!
Hey guys, so I have what I think will be our last spring snack to try.
This one is puchi ichigo miruku daifuku, so that is small strawberry milk daifuku.
I'm pretty excited about this one because I don't eat daifuku often at all, and I love
them.
So let's have a look at these.
Here we go, our cute little daifuku, and a little fork in there as well.
Let's give these a go.
Here's my puchi daifuku, let's give it a go.
Okay, so it is strawberry flavoured with like strawberry cream in the middle, and I mean...they're
always delicious, so I don't know what more I can add to this, except it's delicious,
just like all strawberry daifuku.
Um, yeah, tastes kinda like spring 'cause it's strawberry themed, and looks very very
cute, of course.
So I think this will be our last snack, as I said.
If I find anything super exciting in the remainder of spring, I will make a separate video for
it.
I really hope you've liked this compilation of interesting spring foods that I found,
and I hope you found it entertaining or interesting or...something!
And thank you so much for watching, I will talk to you next time.
Bye!
