Interview with Gabriel Gelman: Learning 2 similar languages at the same time, Polyglot Gathering '17 - Duration: 5:34.Hi, I'm Luca from MosaLingua. Today I'm with Gabriel Gelman
from the blog "sprachheld," and we are at a conference
for polyglots, the Polyglot Gathering, in Bratislava. We're talking about
how to learn two similar languages at the same time and not mix them up.
So, welcome Gabriel! "Thank you so much, Luca"
Thank you. So, Gabriel, you learned two languages
that are fairly similar, French and Spanish.
I wanted to hear a bit about your experience: how did it go for you?
For example, how did you keep from getting them confused?
I started with French. I went to France to learn
French with Erasmus.
I was in Toulouse, and the problem was that most other Erasmus
students studying there were from Spain.
So I was in France, and I wanted to learn French,
but all of my friends were Spanish,
so I also wanted to learn Spanish.
It wasn't a great idea, because I didn't speak French
very well yet, and I was learning Spanish at the same time,
so I mixed up the two sometimes.
But I didn't really have a choice, so…
When I have the choice, it's better to learn one language really well,
because to communicate, I need to be able to speak it well.
Not perfectly, but at least be able to communicate without problems. And then start learning
another language if they're similar. "So actually, the idea is,
I pretty much agree with this, you should reach a proficient level
in one of the two languages, and then start
learning the other.
I've met people who have told me, "Alright, I'm going to learn --
(this is mostly Francophones who have told me this) I'm going to learn Italian and Spanish at the same time
because they're similar languages."
So if I'm understanding you correctly, Gabriel, you're saying this isn't a good idea?
No, not at all. Actually, I got an email about a week ago
from someone who wanted to learn Italian, French, and Spanish
at the same time. So he wanted to make flashcards,
and write in German on one side
and in French, Italian, and Spanish
on the other side. And I said, "That's not going to work.
That's impossible. You're going to get them confused all the time."
No kidding. If you start learning
one language,
you don't know all of the words in that language well yet, and then if
you start learning another language that you also don't know well,
you're going to mix them up. It's the same thing
for me with my Hebrew,
which is even worse than my French, so
if I start learning more Hebrew, it's going to be hard.
But speaking a language that is similar
is impossible. You're always going to confuse them.
Because if you just learn French words, and then
if you speak it all the time, you're going to remember those words.
"Okay. Do you think there are any advantages
to learning two similar languages? Are there any advantages or not?
Yes, it's very easy.
For me, it was really hard to learn French
but then learning Spanish was easy because
the two languages are quite similar. I also want to learn Portuguese.
I don't know when, but I know that it's going to be easy
for me since I already know Spanish and French, and
there are many similar words, the grammar is the same,
all you have to do is
change up some of the roots and that's it.
So
if someone wants to learn a language quickly, if you learn
a similar language
to one you already know, you'll pick it up really quickly.
And to build on that: what do you think about trying
to learn two languages at the same time
if the two languages they pick are very different,
like, say, German
and Spanish for example?
I do not think it's a good idea.
I know a lot of people do it.
But you'll make better use of your time if you
focus on one language. Because learning a language
isn't something you can just do for 5 minutes a day.
You need to do it every day, you need to speak…
And for example, Lydia Machova spoke about that
today during the conference when she talked about the
10 things that polyglots do differently. One thing was that they
only learn one language at a time. Because if not,
you don't really learn either very well, and you speak
one language, then you speak the other… And it's just pretty hard
to learn two languages at once.
I would just do one language all the time, that's better in my opinion.
So when you learn Portuguese, I suppose you'll just learn
Portuguese, and that's it? "Yes" "And not, Italian, for example."
"Yes, exactly." Okay, very well.
There you have it. It's interesting to get his point of view because
lots of people ask us about this. So here's what we're going to do:
Gabriel has a blog in German called "sprachheld."
And he also has a YouTube channel. So we're going to
continue our discussion about language learning, and more specifically
about this same topic of learning two similar languages. We'll do it in English
and you'll find the link to that
in the description below and on our blog. But for now:
thank you so much, and we'll see you soon from Gabriel's channel!
"Thanks" "Thank you."

The real 100 subs special - My Voice Reveal! + What happened until now(Turn on the subtitles first) - Duration: 2:50.Hello!
My name is YEE or SEE and also known as my steam nickname, Nameless.
Thank you for 100 subscribers!
And for that, I want to talk to you guys how I started uploading videos in Youtube.
You already know, I really love TF2.
Because the community made many interesting mods in TF2 such as Freak Fortress and Slender Fortress.
Because I like both of them, I wanted to record it.
And I wanted to let people know what is happening in other servers that are not popular.
So I recorded and uploaded a video about Slender Fortress first.
But not in Glubbable's server. It was in B@N server, one of the most popular servers in korea.
I enjoyed many moments in there and tried to record every time.
It was so much fun!
But one day, the admin of B@N server made an important accident.
I tried to give him a suggestion, but he accepted as a complaint.
Strange, right?
So he kept interrupting me for a month and the result was a permanent ban.
It was a perfect example of admin abuse and it happens mostly on korean servers.
After that, I didn't know what to do.
But thankfully, Queen, the owner of the very first korean slender fortress server,
added me, and talked about what happened in B@N server.
After the conversation ended, Queen re-opened her server in May 2,
and I could record Slender Fortress from then.
And Freak Fortress 2, I personally don't like the korean Freak Fortress server.
The balance was so terrible, and people thinks about themselves. they are so mean to others.
So I went to the DISC-FF Freak Fortress server.
It had many of unique bosses and its balance was quite good.
So I recorded both boss and map gameplays.
And... yeah. that's pretty much it.
Anyways, thank you so much for 100 subscribers, I really appreciate it.
Thanks for listening, and have a great day.
;)

G20 easily explained (explainity® explainer video) - Duration: 4:35.Have you listened to the news today?
It probably included a report on some crisis occurring somewhere in the world.
There are wars, famines, climate issues and economic crises.
We're going to focus on the last of these, and explain to you
what connection the G20 has with this.
Let's go back to the year 1997.
Many East Asian countries are threatened with an economic crisis.
Currencies are falling in value, businesses are going bankrupt,
many people are losing their jobs or the money they have invested.
Other countries now appear to be under threat as well.
There was widespread concern. And so, in 1998, in the USA,
a crisis meeting was held attended by 22 countries.
This meeting was one of the milestones that resulted
in the establishment of the G20 in December 1999.
"G" stands for "Group".
And "20" stands for the 19 most important industrialised and emerging countries plus the EU.
In total, the G20 countries contain about two-thirds of the world's population.
These states have a massive share of the world's economy and trade.
The G20 is not an organisation. No. Instead it is a so-called "informal forum".
This means: they cannot directly adopt laws.
Rather they simply act as a catalyst for new initiatives.
Their opinion does, however, carry considerable political weight.
Another important year for the G20 was 2008.
Once again, finance ministers and central bank chairpersons met for discussions.
At the same time, however, the world was threatened with a major financial crisis.
To get the crisis under control,
heads of governments and states were brought around the table,
moving the G20 into the upper echelons of politics.
Together, they agreed upon important financial reforms to deal with the crisis.
Today, the summits take place once or twice a year.
Heads of governments, their representatives and various specialist ministers
are now joined at the table by institutions such as the WHO along with other national representatives.
The final decision on which guests are allowed to attend falls to the President
of the country organising the G20 summit.
He or she also decides on the content of the conference.
In addition to topics on economics and finance,
other aspects are now included in the agenda, such as:
climate, energy, food, health and social issues.
The ongoing aim of the G20 is: To fight global crises, and to prevent crises.
In the run-up to summits, emissaries of heads of governments – known as "Sherpas"
work on key issues.
They do this together with different groups such as trade unions,
scientists and women's groups.
The G20 has already achieved a great deal, for example:
Tougher measures have been adopted
to safeguard states and taxpayers from financial charges.
Financial support has been agreed on for poorer countries.
And they agreed to keep global warming below two degrees Celsius.
After the summits, however, each country is itself responsible
for implementing these resolutions and enacting legislation.
Repeated criticisms have been directed against the G20.
That it is an elite club and undemocratic, because
what about the voices from the world's other nations?
That G20 members all support a policy based on
economic growth and maximising profit.
That it favours large corporations and the wealthy.
That it is unjust and contributes to social inequality, wars and emigration.
And not all members
hold themselves to the climate protection measures adopted by the G20.
It therefore remains to be seen what G20 summits can achieve in the future.

How and Why You Should Use Sleeknote for A/B Split Testing - Duration: 1:56.Hi I'm Emil today I'm going to tell you how you can generate more leads with
Your sleeknotes by A/B testing
A/B testing is a method of comparing two different sleeknotes
To find out which one is better at converting your visitors into leads
You compare the sleeknotes by splitting the traffic on your site
To make sure that a equal amount of visitors see the two different versions
To make it easy for you we made a feature that does it
It tracks the performance of the two different sleeknotes
Let's take it from the beginning you have a sleeknote you think could be converting better you duplicate
it and make the change that could improve the performance of the sleeknote
That could be the headline the call-to-action, the image, the wording or many other things
The important thing is that you only change one element to make
sure you know exactly what makes the difference in the conversion rate
If one of the sleeknotes you want to test already have collected data you just duplicate
the sleeknote to make sure it doesn't start with data already before the test started
Now you have two sleeknotes ready for testing
You go to A/B split testing create split test and pick a name for your test
Then pick two different sleeknotes you want to compare and click save and activate campaign
Easy right then there's nothing left to do and wait for the winner to show
a good rule of thumb is always to run the test for full weeks a minimum of three
by split testing your sleeknotes you get to know your visitors and what
turns them into leads
and the knowledge can help you improve the conversion rate of your sleeknotes
if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact us
at mail@sleeknote.com we'll be happy to answer them

Codomo Dragon - Dokumushi (ENG SUB) [HD] - Duration: 4:11.[Dokumushi | Poisonous Insect]
[translations by me]
[credit if use]
[if you see any errors let me know!]
Ugly thoughts that grew within my skull are asking
"Where did you spring from?" with a blurred face
Rub everything in and repeat it again
Listening to the same old "Who's fault is it?"
I knew it, it's worthless
Ah, I let out a sigh
Shit!! Repentance?
Malice? Benevolence? Whatever happens, happens
Ah, it makes my skin crawl
Jealousy twists, all out of reason from the hostility
"Spit me out"
"Spit me out"
"Spit me out"
"Spit me out"
It's useless to say, isn't it?
Just live on
If you lose everything and it makes no sense
Without blaming anyone either, the fool laughed innocently
We've grown too dependent on one another, it's become easy
Fashionably dressed,
We're all wearing bright red lies
(warning, poisonous insect, intracranial, proliferation, overflow, maverick)
"The crazy insect is"
Ah, I let out a sigh
Shit!! The reason why?
Malice, benevolence, whatever happens, happens
Ah, it makes my skin crawl
My envy has worsened
All out of reason from the hostility
My thoughts have become useless
Whatever happens, happens
If you lose everything and it makes no sense
Without blaming anyone either, the fool laughed innocently
We've grown too dependent on one another, it's become easy
Fashionably dressed,
we're all wearing bright red lies
The poisonous insect laughs

Le Voile du Futur # 8 : Oniromancie #Poucesdor - Duration: 6:25.Ahh ! You're already here my children.
But I was sure you would come, because I saw it in my dreams !
Today, my sweet little sloth, we will talk about dreams reading.
Oneiros means « dream » in greek, so the word « oneiric » which is a dream vision.
But stop with vocabulary problem and let's talk about our subject.
Man has always been fascinating by his
dreams.
They thought that dreams had important informations and even
sometimes can shows the future.
But it's hard to understand our dreams because sometimes it's twisted, and we need
a translator.
In Ancient Egypt, these translators were known by the name « learned man
from the magical library » and they lived in temples of Serapis,
God of Dreams.
They ware some places where you could interpret your dreams of course, but also special place
to dream.
Indeed, we believed in god's inflence who could send a dream
in order to help to resolve a problem.
The ancient Egyptians, for exemple, slept next to the Sphynx to have
a special dream.
In medieval Japan, every pilgrim could stay in a dream temple during 100
days or more, and made a severe diet and a lot of prays,
in order to receive illumination.
The first complete guide of dream interpretation is « Onirocritique
or dream's key », written by the greek Artemidor Daldianus, in the 2nd century.
This book is a great recommandation durint more than 1000 years.
Of course, the most sceptical persons always criticizes dream interpretation, like Aristote
or Ciceron or Miss Granger who thought that it was just
superstition.
Nevertherless, I'll talk about 3 famous Muggles who beleived in their dreams.
Number 3
Mary Shelley said that all the characters of her book Frankenstein appeared to her
in dreams.
Number 2
Bram Stocker said the same thing about Dracula.
Number 1
Dimitri Mendeleïev failed to order the
chimical elements correctly.
One day, he dreamt about a « table where all these elements find their right place ».
When he awaked, he made the periodic table.
The Muggles have to know it for the chimical classes
and the young wizard for Alchemy.
Dreams are powerful magic because even the Muggles can use them.
Time to end this lesson.
I think it's time my children for a nap…. Heu a dream interpretation session.
No Severus stop...
I saw a giant flying slug in the sky, and rainy spaghetti.
I was having a pique-nique with Severy on a beach with dancing rocks
around us.
I'm not sure about the meaning of all this…
