It's Levi-OH-sa, not Levio-SAH. Now I'm going to bed before either of you comes up
with another clever idea to get us killed or worse, expelled!
Ooh, I am so sorry that you had to hear my terrible English accent. If you couldn't
tell, today is all about Harry Potter. Tomorrow is both Harry Potter and JK Rowling's birthdays,
so today we're going to do some crafts made out of Perler Beads inspired by Harry Potter.
It's like all of my favorite things in one video. But before we get started, I just want
to remind you guys that I have a mailing list now, so if you like what you see and you want
to make sure that you don't miss any of my videos in the future, signing up for my
mailing list is the best way to do it, and it's totally free. Also if you like Harry
Potter projects or Perler Bead projects, I've done a lot of them in the past. So right down
below, I'm doing to link to two playlists with so many more DIY projects. Alright, now
let's get started.
First up if you're planning a Luna Lovegood costume this Halloween, these are the projects
for you. We're going to be making her Spectrespecs and radish earrings. For the glasses, I bought
these striped perler beads that I think are so Harry Potter and work so well for this
project. But if you don't have them, you can definitely use solid beads of a similar
color. You'll also need two large pegboards, and I'm going to link to all of these supplies
down below. I'd suggest working directly on the surface where you'll be ironing so
you don't have to worry about moving the pegboards later. I just put mine on top of
a dishtowel. So begin by making the blue eye by using three different colors of blue beads.
Then count over five pegs and make the red eye again using three colors of red beads.
Once those are finished, gather as many different shades of pink as you have - I have four including
the fun striped beads. Then make this shape, putting down the different shades of pink
in a random order. Once you're done, it should look something like this. Go ahead
and put down your ironing paper and iron it, trying to keep the beads as evenly melted
as possible. Once it's cooled down a little, flip it over and iron the other side. Now
to make this into glasses you can actually wear, you'll need costume Harry Potter glasses,
appropriately enough. Just glue the Perler Bead shape to the front of the glasses, trying
to cover the frames as best you can. Once that's dry, you've made DIY Spectrespecs
that are perfect for spotting all of those pesky wraskspurts all around you.
But no Luna costume is complete without radish earrings. To make these, use white, red, and
green beads to make this shape, and I'll have the downloadable patterns for all of
these projects linked down in the description. Then use more red and white beads to make
this shape, so that they'll slot together to make a 3D radish. Iron both shapes just
like you would with any other Perler project. Then use a thumbtack to poke a hole into the
top of the smaller shape. Insert a jump ring and then add a few more jump rings and an
earring. Then slot the two shapes together and you can glue them if you want, but it's
pretty secure just on it's own. Repeat all of those steps to make a second one and now
you have a pair of Luna Lovegood's radish earrings that are perfect for a costume or
just to wear day to day.
Next we're going to make this golden snitch key chain, and I'm actually going to be
using mini Perler Beads for this one. These are really tiny and they let you get a lot
more detail in there. I'm actually going to be using the same pattern as the golden
snitch Christmas ornament that I made on HGTV Handmade last year. So, just put down your
mini pegboard and start recreating the pattern. I'm not gonna lie, mini Perler Beads are
really annoying to work with. They're so tiny that you have to be really careful putting
them in the right spot, and it's so easy to knock them over. But they're just so
cute, so once you have your shapes finished, go ahead and iron them just like before. Just
make sure to keep a close eye on it, since they melt really fast since they're so tiny.
Once you have your shapes made, use your thumbtack and pliers to add a jump ring and a key chain.
And then just slot the two shapes together. If you're going to be putting it on your
backpack I would recommend gluing them together so it's a little more durable. And that's
it. I think this is adorable and you could totally make it into a Christmas ornament
or a necklace or just a cute decoration for your room.
Next we'll be making this phone case, and this is an example of how you can find pixel
art that other people have designed and combine them to make it your own. When I looked up
Harry Potter Perler Beads on Pinterest, I found this adorable owl that everyone was
making, as well as the HP logo. So I combined the two of them into one design with magical
little stars all around it. Placing all of these mini Perler Beads took literally forever,
but I think it came out really well. Once again just iron it down, being careful not
to melt down the mini beads too much. Once that's completely cooled down, use heavy
duty glue to glue it onto a phone case, and you're done. My pattern is for an iPhone
6, but if you have a different phone, just adjust the number of beads for the size of
your phone case. I think this turned out so cute and it will definitely show everyone
around you that you are the biggest Harry Potter fan of all time.
And finally, we're going to make this Platform 9 ¾ sign. Once again I found the 9 ¾ design
on Pinterest and I adapted it to add the red outline and some of the striped beads to make
it feel extra magical. I have to tell you, going back to regular sized beads after all
of those mini beads was like the DIY angels shining down from the DIY heaven. It is just
so much easier to get everything in place with the normal sized beads. This one took
quite a while to iron since it's so big, so just do your best to get it as evenly melted
as you can. Once it's completely cooled off, use a thumbtack and pliers to add a jump
ring to each side. And then tie on a piece of string to be able to hang it up. And now
you've made a pretty sweet Platform 9 ¾ decoration for your room. You'll be all
set for when your Hogwarts letter shows up after being lost in the mail for 15 years
and you need to go get on the train and become the wizard that you were always meant to be.
That's how it works, right? Right? I think that's how it works.
So, if you're still watching, let me know in a comment right down below what Hogwarts
house are you in and who is your favorite Harry Potter character. As always, I've
linked to all the supplies down in the description, so if you do any of these projects, make that
you tag a photo with #karenkavett so that I can see. If you want even more DIY projects,
I've got two playlists for you - one with a ton of Perler Bead projects and one with
a whole bunch of Harry Potter projects. So I'll link both of those playlists right
down below as well. Happy crafting, and remember - Happiness can be found in even the darkest
times if one only remembers to turn on the light. I'll see you guys next time.
