DJI, a personal presentation and Ummo app - The Good the Bad and the Tip - Duration: 2:53.
The good this week is
or as you probably know it, DJI.
DJI is a chinese company. That's right: made in China!
That has used powerful branding and design to position itself
as a leader in drone manufacturing. Seven out of ten drones you see today
are actually manufactured by DJI. Why the success? Amazing user experience, i.e
design. They demystified droning and made it simple.
They took this complicated thing that require you to be an expert pilot and
made it foolproof.
Well, not entirely foolproof. But still...
Applying an extremely complex technology to let you just point your phone and fly this thing or let it
return to you if you're stupid enough to run out of battery. Or making it look
like this instead of this... Are the reasons why drones have become the new hit.
Kind of reminds me of that company that made computers simple and personal.
The bad for this week is Lizzie Fenton. Lizzie decided to create a presentation
to pitch herself to her crush. This is a true story, by the way. She talked about
her job, her edgy style, and even more personal charts. But it didn't work.
Carter replied to this with a cold and uninspired response.
Lizzy, we want to help you. Can you see what's wrong? Your slides! Your slides
need our help. We took your presentation and gave it a well deserved boost: less
crowded text, bigger and clearer charts and much more colorful look. Carter won't
be able to resist now. Anyway, the tip for today is an app called Ummo. It helps you
practice your public speaking by tracking the number of times you say "um",
or "like", or any other filler word you're probably using unconsciously.
It also lets you track your pace, your volume, over time, pauses, clarity
accents and feedback. Last week I got completely wasted at the office while
recording our Blog2Vlog series.
...I'll let you know.
Are we going to call this "Drunk Marketing"?
Umm was not really happy about it. Nor was my girlfriend, nor were our investors.
The team did seem to enjoy themselves. though.
Check out Ummo at ummoapp.com
We'll see you in two weeks.

America's Got Talent' Judge Cuts 2 recap: Who earned DJ Khaled's Golden Buzzer?. - Duration: 2:31.
Tuesday night, Season 12 of "America's Got Talent" continued the final stage of the competition before the live shows begin. Twenty performers presented their act in front of series judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel
and Mel B as well as guest judge music producer DJ Khaled. In the judge cut phase of the show, 20 acts perform in front of the panel, needing the approval of the judges in order to be one of only seven acts that will advance to the next
round. Khaled took over the special position that Chris Hardwick held last week, having his own Golden Buzzer to overrule the other judges with and send his favorite act straight through.
Below, read our "Americas Got Talent" 2017 recap of the 20 acts in the order in which they were showcased on Tuesday's episode. Who are you most excited to see perform in the live shows? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts down in the comments section
Sammulous: In response to Simon's hesitation about his cabaret act in the first round, Sammulous changed it up this time by singing an uptempo disco song. He's clearly comfortable on stage, with a presence that matches his unique ability of hitting those high notes with perfect pitch. Heidi seemed most impressed while Simon continued to have reservations.

The Quiddlers: This comedy act's schtick was to perform the Spice Girls classic "Wannabe" as the four main judges, only they performed as puppets (of a sort) using their arms as the legs of the puppets and bouncing around the stage in high energy theatrics.
Str8jacket: Mel B applauded the crew for the intricacy of their movements considering they had hula hoops as props.
Solto & T Dot: The duo performed shirtless, a major bonus according to Heidi, in their acrobatic routine and earned the compliment from Simon that this performance was a step up from their audition

Jokgu and Aichan: In order to improve upon Jokgu's first audition where he played the piano, his handlers brought out his sister Aichan so that they could perform a piano duel. Crybaby-In-Chief Can't Believe How Unfair Jeff Sessions Is - Duration: 12:07.
DONALD TRUMP CANNOT STOP TALKING NEGATIVELY ABOUT HIS
ATTORNEY GENERAL, JEFF SESSIONS.
IT ALL STARTED WITH A NEW YORK
TIMES INTERVIEW WHERE HE WAS CLEAR AND TRANSPARENT ABOUT THE
FACT THAT HE WOULDN'T HAVE WORKED WITH JEFF SESSIONS IF HE
KNEW THAT HE WAS GOING TO RECUSE HIMSELF IN REGARD TO THE
INVESTIGATION INTO RUSSIAN COLLUSION, AND NOW HE PUT
OUT A STATEMENT DURING A PRESS CONFERENCE.
WE HAVE THAT, AND LATER ON, I WILL TELL YOU WHAT HE TOLD
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ABOUT SESSIONS, IT KEEPS GOING ON.
>>I'M DISAPPOINTED IN THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, HE SHOULD NOT
HAVE RECUSE HIMSELF ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER HE TOOK
OFFICE, IF HE WAS GOING TO COME HE SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME AND I
WOULD HAVE PICKED SOMEBODY ELSE.
I THINK THAT'S A BAD THING NOT
FOR THE PRESIDENT BUT FOR THE PRESIDENCY, I THINK IT'S UNFAIR
TO THE PRESIDENCY.
I WANT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO BE MUCH
TOUGHER ON THE LEAKS FROM INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES, WHICH ARE
LEAKING LIKE RARELY HAVE THEY EVER LEAKED BEFORE, AT A VERY
IMPORTANT LEVEL.
I TOLD YOU BEFORE I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED
WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, BUT WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
TIME WILL TELL.
TIME WILL TELL.
>>KEEP IN MIND THAT JEFF SESSIONS HAS NOT SAID ANYTHING
IN RESPONSE TO THESE STATEMENTS, AT LEAST NOT YET.
WHEN HE WAS
QUESTIONED ABOUT THIS DAYS AGO HE SAID I LOVE MY JOB, I WILL
STAY WHERE I'M AT.
IT MIGHT NOT BE UP TO YOU, JEFF SESSIONS.
IT
SEEMS LIKE TRUMP IS BUILDING A CASE AGAINST YOU, AND HE'S ALSO
MAKING IT INCREDIBLY CLEAR THAT HE'S GUILTY OF SOMETHING.
NOT JEFF SESSIONS, BUT TRUMP.
>>WE WILL GET INTO THE DETAILS IN A SECOND, BUT THIS IS
UNPRECEDENTED.
I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN MY LIFE.
I'VE BEEN COVERING POLITICS FOR OVER 20 YEARS, AND A PRESIDENT
COMING OUT AND SAYING THAT HIS OWN ATTORNEY GENERAL IS
BELEAGUERED?
THAT WAS A DAY AGO, AND THAT'S SHOCKING.
NOW IT'S
GOTTEN WAY WORSE.
CAN YOU IMAGINE OBAMA, OR EVEN GEORGE W.
BUSH, OR GEORGE HW BUSH, OR REAGAN, COMING OUT AND GOING MY
ATTORNEY GENERAL, CAN YOU BELIEVE HIM?
WHAT?
SAYING HE'S
TROUBLED BY HIM, HE'S WEAK, HE'S CONSIDERING FIRING HIM --
UNPRECEDENTED, UNHEARD-OF.
HE'S NOT OBAMA OR HILLARY CLINTON'S
ATTORNEY GENERAL, HE IS YOURS.
THIS GUY IS CONSTANTLY DEMANDING
LOYALTY, LIKE A MAFIA BOSS.
BUT JEFF SESSIONS WAS LOYAL TO HIM.
HE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST SENATORS TO ENDORSE DONALD TRUMP WHEN NO
ONE ELSE WAS DOING IT.
HE STUCK HIS NECK OUT FOR TRUMP.
DO YOU
THINK TRUMP CARES?
THERE'S ONLY ONE THING TRUMP CARES ABOUT, HIMSELF.
>>THE MISTAKE SESSION IS MAKING IS THAT HE'S TREATING THIS
ADMINISTRATION LIKE IT WAS ANY OTHER FROM THE PAST.
THIS IS AN
UNPRECEDENTED ADMINISTRATION.
JEFF SESSIONS RECUSING HIMSELF
WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO, CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT HE HAD
THOSE MEETINGS WITH THE RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR AND HE DIDN'T
DISCLOSE IT DURING HIS CONFIRMATION HEARINGS.
HE DID
THE RIGHT THING IN THAT CASE.
BUT TRUMP DOESN'T CARE WHETHER
YOU DO THE RIGHT THING, HE CARES WHETHER YOU ARE LOOKING OUT FOR
HIM, HIS BEST INTERESTS, AND COVERING UP HIS LIES AND
POSSIBLE COLLUSION.
>>ONE MORE THING, GUYS, THE REPUBLICANS ARE MAKING THE
MISTAKE OF THINKING THAT DONALD TRUMP DIDN'T DO A DEAL WITH THE
RUSSIANS.
SESSIONS THINKS WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?
I RECUSED
MYSELF BECAUSE OTHERWISE I WOULD BE IN TROUBLE FOR AN OBVIOUS
CONFLICT OF INTEREST WHEN I DID MEET WITH THE RUSSIANS, SO I
SHOULDN'T BE INVOLVED IN THE CASE.
THE BIG DEAL, JEFF, IS
THAT YOUR BOSS DID A CORRUPT DEAL WITH THE RUSSIANS.
HE
WANTED YOU TO COVER IT UP.
THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE NOT GETTING.
LOOK, I'M NOT ONE TO BE OVERLY CONSIDERATE OF THE REPUBLICANS
AND HAVE A LOT OF POSITIVE VIEWS OF THEM, BUT I ACTUALLY THINK A
LOT OF THEM ARE GENUINELY THINKING THAT, I DON'T
UNDERSTAND WHY TRUMP IS SO UPSET, WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?
WHY
DON'T WE JUST DO THE INVESTIGATION AND DO NORMAL
THINGS LIKE RECUSE OURSELVES?
BECAUSE HE DID IT, YOU SCHMUCKS.
KNOW THE WHOLE COUNTRY KNOWS IT.
WHY WOULD HE ATTACK JEFF
SESSIONS, WHO HE HAS NO OTHER BEEF WITH?
HE JUST TOLD YOU, IT
WAS ON TAPE, HE SAID WHY DID HE RECUSE HIMSELF?
WHY DO YOU CARE?
IF YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG IN RUSSIA, WHY DO YOU CARE THAT
YOUR ATTORNEY GENERAL ISN'T PART OF THE DECISION-MAKING ON WHO IS
INVESTIGATING WITH YOU?
IF YOU SAID TO ME CENK, THERE'S AN
INVESTIGATION INTO WHAT YOU DID IN INDONESIA, I'D BE LIKE, HAVE
AT IT, HOSS.
I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING IN INDONESIA.
AND ANA
SAID I'M GOING TO RECUSE MYSELF, WHY WOULD I CARE?
I WOULDN'T SAY
I NEED ANA IN THAT INVESTIGATION!
WAIT A SECOND.
>>ESPECIALLY IF YOU WOULDN'T DROP IT.
HOW MANY TIMES HAS HE
RELEASED NEGATIVE STATEMENTS ABOUT SESSIONS?
MULTIPLE TIMES,
MULTIPLE DIFFERENT OUTLETS.
THE FIRST TIME WAS WITH THE NEW YORK
TIMES, THAT CAUSED A SPLASH IN THE HEADLINES, THEN HE PROCEEDED
TO TWEET, THEN THERE WAS THIS PRESS CONFERENCE, THEN AN
INTERVIEW HE DID WITH THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, AND I THINK THIS
IS EXTREMELY TELLING.
JEFF SESSIONS, AS CENK MENTIONED, HAS
BEEN VERY LOYAL TO DONALD TRUMP.
HE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST
OFFICIALS TO COME OUT IN SUPPORT OF DONALD TRUMP AND ENDORSE HIM.
TRUMP WAS ASKED ABOUT THAT BY A REPORTER FROM THE WALL STREET
JOURNAL, AND HERE IS WHAT HIS ANSWER TO THAT
IS --
>>WOW.
>>YOU ARE LOYAL TO DONALD TRUMP AT YOUR PERIL.
LOOK WHAT HE DID
TO CHRIS CHRISTIE, HUMILIATED HIM AND THROUGH HIM AWAY.
RUDY
GIULIANI, THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING ME, GARBAGE CAN.
NEWT
GINGRICH, STUCK HIS NECK OUT, SUPPORTED HIM WITH THE
REPUBLICAN ESTABLISHMENT, GARBAGE CAN.
JEFF SESSIONS NOW,
I THINK HE WAS THE FIRST SENATOR TO COME OUT AND SUPPORT DONALD
TRUMP.
WHO CARES?
YOU HAVE NO USE LEFT FOR ME.
I HAVE NO USE
FOR YOU, ALL I DO IS USE PEOPLE UP.
NOW, ALL THOSE OF YOU WHO
ARE LOYAL VOTERS AND SUPPORTERS OF HIM, DO YOU THINK HE WILL
REPLAY THAT LOYALTY AFTER WHAT HE DID TO JEFF SESSIONS AND
THOSE OTHER GUYS?
HE NEVER CARED ABOUT ANY OF YOU, ALL HE CARES
ABOUT IS HIMSELF.
JEFF SESSIONS, IN MY OPINION, IS A BAD GUY IN
100 OTHER WAYS.
WE TALKED ABOUT HOW HE WANTS TO GO AFTER POT,
AND ALL THE RACIAL THINGS IN THE PAST, ETC., I'M NOT A FAN OF
JEFF SESSIONS.
BUT WAS HE LOYAL TO DONALD TRUMP?
ABSOLUTELY.
HE
RISKED HIS CAREER FOR DONALD TRUMP.
NOW WHAT DOES DONALD
TRUMP DO?
LISTEN, MAN, THE WHOLE POINT OF HIRING YOU WAS TO COVER
UP MY CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES.
IF YOU ARE GOING TO COMMIT CRIMES
FOR ME, I HAVE NO USE FOR YOU.
YOU AREN'T SUFFICIENTLY LOYAL.
>>LET'S GET TO TRUMP'S TWEETS, WHICH HE PUT OUT INTO THE
UNIVERSE AT THREE IN THE MORNING TODAY.
>>LOOK AT THAT, 3:03 AM.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
THIS GUY DOESN'T
GET ANY SLEEP, HE HAS LOST HIS MIND, HE IS A LUNATIC.
>>HE TWEETS OUT --
>>AND THEN OF COURSE HE INCLUDES SEAN HANNITY IN THAT
TWEET, ESSENTIALLY PLAYING THE ROLE OF EXECUTIVE PRODUCER OF
SEAN HANNITY'S SHOW AND TIPPING THEM OFF TO I GUESS A
POTENTIAL TOPIC FOR HIS PROGRAM.
>>HOLD FOR ONE MORE SECOND.
WHO THE HELL IS HILLARY CLINTON?
WHICH GOVERNMENT POSITION DOES SHE HOLD, OR WILL SHE EVER?
SHE'S IRRELEVANT.
PARTLY THANKS TO YOU, SHE'S IN THE DUSTBIN OF HISTORY.
WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT HILLARY CLINTON?
>>THE UKRAINIAN EFFORT TO BOOST HILLARY CLINTON?
>>JASON CHAFFETZ, HE RAN AWAY FROM CONGRESS SO HE WOULDN'T
HAVE TO DEAL WITH INVESTIGATING TRUMP BECAUSE HE WAS IN CHARGE
IN THE HOUSE OF INVESTIGATING TRUMP, HE KNOWS TRUMP IS CROOKED
SO HE QUIT HIS JOB SO HE WOULDN'T HAVE TO INVESTIGATE
TRUMP AND LOSE HIMSELF SOME REPUBLICAN VOTERS WHO LOVE TRUMP
NO MATTER HOW CORRUPT HE IS, HE GOES ON FOX AND FRIENDS
YESTERDAY TALKING ABOUT WE SHOULD INVESTIGATE CHELSEA
CLINTON, AND MAYBE JIMMY CARTER'S BROTHER, AND -- THESE
PEOPLE DON'T HAVE GOVERNMENT POSITIONS.
TO INVESTIGATE
HILLARY CLINTON, IT'S SUCH AN OBVIOUS DISTRACTION.
HE DID IT,
HE DID IT.
HE'S TELLING YOU HE DID IT.
>>IT'S A WEAK ATTEMPT AT A DISTRACTION, AND IF ANYTHING
IT'S ANOTHER RED FLAG INDICATING THAT THERE WAS WRONGDOING ON
TRUMP'S BEHALF, AND HE'S DOING EVERYTHING HE CAN TO TRY TO
MANIPULATE THE CONVERSATION AND THE NARRATIVE.
HE ALSO TWEETED --
>>IT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE IF YOU CAN MEMBER, WHEN TRUMP WAS
CAMPAIGNING, LOCK HER UP WAS ONE OF THE CHANTS AT THE RNC, THEN
HE GETS ELECTED AND HE SAYS I WILL LET HILLARY CLINTON ALONE.
OKAY, DO YOU WANT TO LET HER ALONE, OR INVESTIGATE HER?
BESIDES, INVESTIGATING HER MAKES NO SENSE IN THIS CONTEXT, YOU
ARE THE PRESIDENT, YOU ARE ACCUSED OF WRONGDOING, YOU
SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED.
>>TO BE FAIR, I WANT TO GET BACK INTO GROVER CLEVELAND'S
ADMINISTRATION.
WAS JAMES POLK RELIEVE THE DARK HORSE?
AND
SEWARD'S FOLLY, WHY AREN'T WE INVESTIGATING THAT?
WE NEED TO
FIND OUT WHAT JOHN QUINCY ADAMS WAS DOING.
>>AND FINALLY --
>>HE'S MAKING IT CLEAR THAT HE'S PAVING THE WAY FOR SESSIONS TO
GET FIRED, AND THERE WERE OFFICIALS IN THE WHITE HOUSE WHO
SPOKE TO THE PRESS AND SAID THAT TRUMP HAD ASKED WHAT HAPPENS IF
I FIRE JEFF SESSIONS?
AND THEY SAID YOU MIGHT WANT TO SAVE THAT
BULLET FOR ROBERT MUELLER.
>>HE ALSO WENT AFTER MCCABE, LET ME GIVE YOU ONE LAST TWEET FROM
THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT -- MCCABE GOT MONEY FROM HILLARY
CLINTON.
I WONDER WHY HE'S GOING AFTER EVERYONE IN LAW
ENFORCEMENT?
THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, THE HEAD OF THE FBI,
THE SPECIAL PROSECUTOR, AND THE DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL.
I
THOUGHT YOU WERE FOR LAW AND ORDER.
RULE OF LAW.
THE COPS.
WE
WILL GET SO TOUGH ON THEM, RIGHT?
WHEN THEY ARE
INVESTIGATING YOUR CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES, YOU HATE THE FBI,
THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT -- THEY WEREN'T LOYAL TO ME.
GO AFTER
THE OTHER GUYS, COVER MY CRIMES.
ARE YOU THIS DENSE NOW?
THAT YOU
STILL THINK HE DIDN'T DO IT?
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A GUY IN THIS
MUCH PANIC OVER BEING INVESTIGATED?

US Senators caught on hot mic: Donald Trump is 'crazy', 'I'm worried' - Duration: 5:54.
US Senators caught on hot mic: Donald Trump is 'crazy', 'I'm worried'
US Senators caught on hot mic: Donald Trump is crazy, Im worried . BERNSTEIN/REUTERS Senator Jack Reed thought he was talking in private when a microphone picked up his comment about the US President: I think - I think hes crazy. .
Two US Senators have been caught out slagging off the president, unaware a microphone was still on. At the end of a Senate subcommittee hearing on Tuesday morning (US time), Chairman Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine, didnt switch off her microphone.
Apparently speaking to Senator Jack Reed, Rhode Island, the ranking Democrat of the committee, Collins discussed the federal budget - and President Donald Trumps lack of familiarity with the details of governing.
After Reed praises Collins handling of the hearing, held by the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee, she laments the administrations handling of spending.
BERNSTEIN/REUTERS Senator Susan Collins (Republican-Maine) was overheard saying the president worried her.
I swear, [the Office of Management and Budget] just went through and whenever there was grant, they just X it out, Collins says. With no measurement, no thinking about it, no metrics, no nothing. Its just incredibly irresponsible..
I think - I think hes crazy, apparently referring to the president. I mean, I dont say that lightly and as a kind of a goofy guy.. Im worried, Collins replies.
YURI GRIPAS/REUTERS US President Donald Trump billed his lack of experience in politics as a bonus, as he wasnt part of the Washington swamp. You know, this thing - if we dont get a budget deal, were going to be paralysed..
I know, Collins replies. [Department of Defense] is going to be paralysed, everybody is going to be paralysed, Reed says.
I dont think he knows there is a [Budget Control Act] or anything, Collins says, referring to a 2011 law that defines the budget process.
He was down at the Ford commissioning, Reed says, referring to President Trumps weekend event launching a new aircraft carrier, saying, I want them to pass my budget.
Okay, so we give him US$54 billion and then we take it away across the board which would cause chaos..
Its just - and he hasnt - not one word about the budget. Not one word about the debt ceiling, Reed says. Good point, Collins replies.
Youve got [Budget Director Mick] Mulvaney saying were going to put in all sorts of stuff like a border wall. Then youve got [Treasury Secretary Steve] Mnuchin saying its got to be clean, Reed continues.
Were going to be back in September, and, you know, youre going to have crazy people in the House..
In a more salacious part of what was recorded, Collins then addressed a radio interview in which Representative Blake Farenthold, Republican-Texas, suggested that if Collins were a man, hed have challenged her to a duel for opposing the Senate Republicans Obamacare overhaul bill.
Did you see the one who challenged me to a duel? Collins asks. I know, Reed replies. Do you know why he challenged you to a duel? Cause you could beat the s*** out of him..
Well, hes huge, Collins replies. And he - I dont mean to be unkind, but hes so unattractive its unbelievable..
Did you see the picture of him in his pyjamas next to this Playboy bunny? she continues, referring to an infamous photo of Farenthold. At that point, the mic went dead.
On Friday, according to the Texas Tribune, Farenthold told a radio host: Some of the people that are opposed to this, there are female senators from the Northeast.
If it was a guy from South Texas, I might ask him to step outside and settle this Aaron Burr-style. Farenthold didnt name Collins in his comments to the radio host, thought it was a clear reference to her.
Burr, the sitting vice president, shot and killed adversary Alexander Hamilton, the former Treasury secretary, in an 1804 duel.

Advice For Hiring a Team of Virtual Assistants (2 of 2) - Duration: 14:57.
Hey Dan here again and hopefully in the last video I convinced you about the
benefits of starting to outsource well if I didn't I don't really care I don't
know in an outsourcing company it's your business not mine but if you're sold on
this concept of having someone help you with some or a lot of the work on your
plates and I want to go through a lot of tips in this video on how to do it right
because I have made every single mistake you can possibly make while outsourcing
well I guess I haven't give anyone like my credit card yet who's stolen all my
money but aside from that and there's still time I have made every single
mistake but I've also found ways to make it work so I want to go through all the
different ways you should approach this and not approach it and how to get it
right as well as I will cover some places well one place where you can go
to get started hiring people as well so right off the bat you want to start
small and start hourly I've made this mistake a bunch of times where I brought
someone on sometimes someone I knew in real life actually sometimes someone
online like a VA where I brought them on on kind of a ten hour a week agreement
and I didn't know what I wanted them to do and I really it was messed up for a
few reasons so first of all I felt like I was paying them and if they weren't
getting stuff done or that wasn't a busy week it really bugged me I felt like I
was losing this money the other thing is it increased the expense before it was
necessary right so I try to create busy work I'm like alright I got ten hours
for this person um maybe you could like go through my home exchange emails and
do some stuff like that for me so it ended up in this situation where I felt
like I was wasting money and I was just creating busy work for them so when you
start hourly with no minimum commitment that is a really good way to do it the
second thing in this this ties in is you got to trust them right because what I
was doing when I started is I brought someone on for like ten hours a week but
I didn't really trust them now that I don't I don't necessarily mean in terms
of like honesty but in terms of their technical abilities or decision-making
so I wouldn't really give them the important stuff and I'd end up having to
kind of teach them everything and I'd give them these really basic tasks that
in my business I don't actually have many of so it didn't work very well what
I've learned to do later more recently in the past year is just hand over the
whole project to someone and say hey like with my with my last assistant
Jenny hey Jenny if you're watching Jenny was awesome I would just say to her
stuff like hey I'd like to be doing more podcast interviews can you put together
some information on the best way to do that and and the next steps of what we
need to do and I might give her some tips like hey from what I know this is
what we should do but I would leave the project with her to take on rather than
trying to nitpick every detail and outline everything for her because then
it ends up being a lot more work for me now along that note one of the things
that can hold people back as well as you think
well it's quicker for me to just do the work than to explain it right and this
is sometimes true but you've got to try to think in the long term is is it
quicker for you this one time or is it quicker for you for all times ever right
so if it's filling out one form once maybe it's better to do it yourself
but what a lot of entrepreneurs do and I'm doing this as well is you create
something called an SOP or a standard operating procedure so this means that
when I'm training someone to do a task for me I'm not just talking to them one
on one I'm usually making videos or screen
recordings where I explain how the task works what I want done and all that and
I'll sometimes have a written document as well and then if that person quit I
can then have that same document to give to the next person and it really
minimizes the training time and actually this was amazing when Jenny had to quit
she was actually a doctor and she got a placement in a hospital she I asked her
and she actually put together a 23-page training guide for the next person how
cool is that so she created actually she helped create the systems and I'm gonna
talk more about that about the kinds of people you can hire those who create
systems and those who follow them but she actually helped create the systems
and the processes and then documented it to help train the new person so that was
amazing so how do you find somebody like a Jenny well let me just say off the bat
but it might take some time jenny was not the first person that I hired and
will not be the last and so what I found works really well is
to start small there can come cases and this happens in all areas of life from
romance to business where we get really charmed off the bat right we meet
someone we think this person is great and then they totally flake out and
don't follow through this has happened to me once I hired this podcast editor
and she came on and we had a great meeting and she was full of energy and
all this and I was like this person's awesome and then she just disappeared
just disappeared and she's taking other jobs on up work and but just disappeared
from me and and this is actually somewhat common there are certain
countries I won't name that might start with low Lapine's or sound like we'll
Lapine's I should say that I've had more of these experiences with but I've also
hired great people from the country that sounds like glue Lapine's so it's not
something like everyone there is at all there's some great people I've hired
there but I have found that there are certain people online where they
basically are looking for they're always looking for the next opportunity and
they often only work when they need money so in this person's case she had a
great up work profile all this experience and what she did I notice is
she never accepted the job right away so that means I couldn't leave bad feedback
because she hadn't kind of accepted the job after we'd been meeting and talking
in that anyhow this is why it's great to start small because if this is gonna be
a person who just wants to make a bit of money and then quit again or they have
this habit of flaking out or changing positions whenever they can earn more
money then you can spot that in the case of Jenny actually the way we started was
with the most basic of work which was transcribing so I had her helping edit
the captions on my YouTube videos these videos and and doing some transcription
work as well and then I noticed like I really liked her attitude she was really
proactive she mentioned things that she could do like oh do you want me to do
this or improve this and I just started asking if you could do other work and it
grew into basically a full VA position where she was doing just anything that I
wanted and that started with really basic work and that allowed me to see
that she was responsible she was smart she was proactive and from there it grew
so I would really recommend starting with something small this way you keep
your cost down you get to test the person out and you also don't end up
with that problem I mentioned at the start of the video
where you get someone for like ten hours but you don't really know what they
should do yet and then you end up with some problems there as well so I want to
mention that there are really two approaches to hiring people and I'm
gonna just break these into smart and repetitive and what I mean by that is in
the case of someone like Jenny she was actually really smart I mentioned she
became a doctor and in that case what I liked about her if she was able to like
take on a whole project on her own and also develop the processes and help me
basically like get my shit together in terms of how things worked and so if
you're someone that's not great at like systems and organizing and all that like
maybe me you might find that really helpful bringing someone on who can kind
of help you create those processes and understand what you need and then make
it happen I have another friend who's way better at outsourcing than me and he
is all about the systemization and he actually prefers to hire people who
aren't that smart and will just follow the processes so he is a guide of
exactly what he wants done and he just says do this fill it in you know don't
use your intuition just do what we want and get it done and keep doing that work
and and he's had really good luck with that as well it's two different ways of
outsourcing one is kind of bringing someone on who's gonna have a bit of
their own opinions and look for ways they can help in your business and that
but the downside with that person is they'll often get bored with repetitive
work so if it's the same thing every week they're probably gonna get bored
and quit or find another job and they may not always be that good at following
instruction so sometimes with these people they miss some details than that
because they're thinking more about your big-picture stuff right and what like
how they can improve other parts of the business and they miss some important
details windows closing and opening there if you saw I guess carrots that's
what's going on so in terms of these two types of people you can look at hiring
both potentially or going through phases so it might make sense to start off with
someone who can help you figure out those processes they might be someone
who's a little more expensive a little more experienced and they can help you
figure that out and then you can hire someone maybe cheaper to just keep doing
the repetitive work and keep that up or if you have a few things that you do
consistently there are a bit of repetitive tasks and you know how you
want then think about hiring someone should
just do those and write up SOP a standard operating procedure of just how
you want it done what it looks like and then train them on that and have them
take over that and start with one task and then you can add more and more and
more as you get to know the person in and figure out basically are they good
fit or are they not now what kind of a friend would I be if
I left you just with that without telling you actually how to hire someone
so let's get into that in terms of where to hire someone off work this tends to
be where I go I don't necessarily love it as a company they take 20% of the
freelancers income for the first five hundred dollars they earn and they
basically become a monopoly and keep raising their rates I don't like them
but I'm familiar with them they're easy and they have a huge amount of
freelancers on them there are other sites as well there's a site people per
hour which tends to be a little more expensive of people and then there's
also some sites I will link to below because I forget the URLs but for
specific areas so there's a job board for hiring in Eastern Europe there's a
job board for hiring in the Philippines and this way if you want to post
classified and go that way where you pay for the classified but you don't pay
part of the hourly to a company like I work that could be a better way to do it
if you're just starting I would say get someone in up work and go hourly and
just to get started cuz it's way less hassle they handle the money the
invoicing all that but over time is you get better at it and you want to hire
someone to stay with you for a while maybe someone who's doing 20 hours a
week then probably look at one of these job boards to get someone there so in
terms of getting the right person first of all sell the job one of the biggest
mistakes I used to make and a lot of people make with trying to hire like a
virtual assistant is they don't treat them like a real person they put up a
job like hey I want this work done $4 an hour come do it no one wants to work for
you for that right would you apply for that job of course not so you got to
sell the job right the job and this applies to hiring in all cases all the
job right about how awesome it will be how you're not a douchebag I was gonna
be fun or they'll learn a lot or it will be great or whatever it is sell the job
write up a really good description write about what you do
your company does this is a perk for me because my material is I think pretty
entertaining and often about freelancing so freelancers tend to want to work for
me or they're like oh I'd love to edit those videos or do this kind of work
because I actually enjoy the content it's a lot better than doing some boring
or for someone so you write up the awesome job post then you need to test I
suggest two to three tests within the hiring process one is in your
description so well your your job description your post is put some kind
of test - right away screen people out so say something like hey in the first
paragraph of your cover letter be sure to mention your favorite type of cactus
or whatever something just to know if people have read the Job Description
because on a site like up work maybe two-thirds of the responses you get our
generic posts that they just copy and paste and I instantly get rid of those
people because they're just not putting in any kind of effort the next test you
can go about and do would be some kind of a task to actually see how well they
perform something depending on what you're hiring them for test for that so
if you're looking for someone who just follows instructions and we'll follow
your SOP then give them a really like detailed set of instructions and give
them a task and see if they follow them exactly if you're looking for someone
who's sort of proactive and gonna think for themselves then give them something
a little more creative where they have to figure out a few things and you can
test their ability to think critically and think for themselves and then give
them that kind of task a test is so much better than a conversation even huge
corporations who spend millions of dollars training in HR learning how to
hire they have something like a 50% miss higher rate so talking to someone the
interview it's great to do but I've actually been getting better hires the
less I'm doing interviews and just focusing on kind of tasks and
communication in that or like text communication before when I was
interviewing people I found that I would just like them so I'd be like oh yeah
this person seems good but I wouldn't have any sense even though I've
interviewed before I've read books on it I have some experience with it I had no
real way to judge if they're actually gonna be good at the job so give them
some kind of a test task and then after that maybe you have a third test so
maybe that's a way to narrow it down to your final few people
and then you can have another project you have them do or do like a probation
period for the first month where you're just feeling out how well they do stuff
again if you're starting out with just a single general pass that they do for you
that's the test in itself right with Jenny she started doing transcription
work she did that well and then that proved she could do other stuff or at
least that was sort of like a test to know we can go on with other work just
remember that hiring and finding that right person takes time do not expect it
to be overnight success but once you get someone in the right fit it's amazing
how much time it frees out for you and how much it can benefit your business so
be willing to put in the time treat it like an experiment know that you might
have to hire four or five people over the next year to get that perfect person
but once you do it will be amazing and know that you need to grow and learn
just as much as getting the right person that learning how to hire someone how to
manage give instructions that takes time as well and to my friends in the country
that kind of sounds like Lilla peens I love you I just was mentioning before a
few of my own experiences but I've also had great experiences hiring people from
your country and your president is hilarious and I love everything he says

Ye-e-ah, oh-oh
I see this scene where you walk down the hallway I try to stop you, but you don't wait
It's exactly what I was afraid of You don't love me anymore
And I know the part where you say you're unfaithful Sittin' at the kitchen table
In that moment in-between I love and fuckin' hate you I'm not sure, not sure
But that isn't stopping me So come sweep me off my feet
'Cause I wanna give, give you all that I got And I wanna believe, we'll defy all the odds
And I hope you don't hurt me, but oh, if you do It would be worth getting hurt by you
Everybody's got their own opinion And I hate, but I admit it
It's naive to think that you and I are somehow different From anyone else
And I give myself, but only giving fractions This is not what I imagined
Gotta put myself out there to see what happens Before I give up
But that isn't stopping me So come sweep me off my feet
'Cause I wanna give, give you all that I got And I wanna believe, we'll defy all the odds
And I hope you don't hurt me, but oh, if you do It would be worth getting hurt by you
Oh, I could've wonder Will our love survive?
Oh, but why always don't tell? Whoa-oh
I wanna give, give you all that I got And I wanna believe, we'll defy all the odds
And I hope you don't hurt me, but oh, if you do It would be worth getting hurt by you
Getting hurt by, by you Getting hurt by, by you
By you Oh, it would be worth getting hurt by you
