Number one. I got a new camera

you can see a lot more of the frame and that is because I finally have upgraded from a crop sensor to a

Full-frame camera, if you don't know what that means

Basically, I've had the exact same lens for the whole career of my youtube all four years

I've had a wide-angle 17 to 40 millimeter lens

But you couldn't get the full effect because I used to be using a crop sensor camera which would look like this

when on my other camera if positioned in the same spot

Which is normally what my camera like would be

I just be a little bit further back, but now that I have a full-frame camera

It actually can capture everything that the lens can do. So yeah, you can

You can see a lot of shit, which means I need to get a better background because that shit's gonna get dull

I'm happy despite. My intelligence nowadays. I was actually really smart in high school. In fact I got

94% in math I got like eighty something in geography

the only class I was terrible at was English and I'm sure you can tell because in a lot of my videos my grammar is

Terrible or I say words that don't even exist like the word funner like that was funnier than was the other thing

But that doesn't even exist in the dictionary. So yeah, I almost fucked up my sentence there

I always thought it was so boring though. I just never really like indulged into it math

However, I'll crunch those numbers and this is a screenshot of my transcript to show you what my grades were

I didn't get a 64 somewhere in one of my math classes

So I should probably pick a new brand I can drive a manual car

In fact all the cars that I've ever had have been manual except for my very first one I have over 800

I have swiped right on a couple of people that I probably would have swiped left on I'm just too lazy to delete the match

I've only ever actually met up with like four or five in the matter of having this app for like five years

But my car stalled person behind me hit me person behind her hit her first behind them hit them and boom I was lucky

I was in the front because that just means the people behind me were riding too close no matter the fact that I ran out

although I like dress them up like a little like I weren't like a bandeau like it's not like I'm going into the office you

It's like the perfect size to wear I can tuck this in in the front and then like leave I open in the back

First up since New Year's or like holiday party in LA

I'm like great holiday party outfit. So I thought this was so cute. It's just like hi back, um little bodysuit

So even from the back, it's like really cool and fun and then from the front, it's like party City up in here

But in a good way

It's like little v-neck on and then the bottom part is one of the like song back body suit situations

I got all this stuff it expressed for I believe first was half off wasn't it? Yeah express was half off

I was posting a lot of deals on my story back on Black Friday and Cyber Monday

And I was rather annoyed because a lot of things I've got it expressed that are like my favorite things in the world

Which I posted about simply guys could've taken advantage if you were interested

But like my favorite place in like all these things that were again investments in pricey were all half off. So I was like

I did get one because it was on sale regular price was 108 and then I believe it was arty discounted and then I got

50% off the discounted price, so I want to say this was like $40, which is great for express

It has like a little gathered sleeve that's cute. It's a three-quarter length. It's the same like style and cut as this plaid blazer

I have from there. It's like oh it's a boyfriend blazer. That's what these are called. So it's super long

The only difference is the material is not like a fabric material like I was expecting for some reason

I mean you can get the picture because of how wrinkly it is

So I'm not thrilled about that

But even in like a car ride sitting down like to get where you're going

This is gonna I feel like get wrinkled in the back

I thought this would be cute more in like the spring or summer with white jeans and like a white top and this nude heels

Last two things from expressed and these are my final cheese's slash leopard investments. No, they're not. I have another one first up

This is pair of pants and I thought were so cute. I'm really into pants and just like fun ones the front

It's just like a clasp front and these are like a like

Slick like nice material the bottom has this like fold over. I love that

Short and tall and I'm short so I got them in the short size and they are perfect thrilled about that

I got this sweater from express as well. It's like a super like cozy little fuzzy material. It's not itchy

But it's not and it's a good length. Like it's not like cropped but it's not super long and one thing to note though

It's a real turtleneck. I can't take myself. Seriously. Nice. I look like a villain in something. This is very turtleneck

so I just took it and I twisted it and weird like half way cuz I prefer like the little mock neck and then

Lastly I have been seeing people wear these really cute like all black outfits with a little cheetah belt

So this is just like a way to spice up a really simple outfit. That's for Express next we'll do boots

These are definitely less expensive items than the past two stores

First of all, if you follow me on instagram you have seen this top

It's not actually that deep of e that's just how it looks right now

But you'll see in the trial what this looks like this screams new years. It's so cute

It's like this stretchy material as you can tell you keep it like is the littles

Little see-through, but like not on your body strangely

But it just has these like elbow-length little flare sleeves and then it's like a wrap front

So you like pull one side over and then pull the other side and then there's like a pull through tie thing

And this was so cheap when I got a literally every other day. It's all like 50 or 60% off

So just wait till stuffs on sale next and I don't love this

I got a little leopard bodysuit because this would be super cute with black jeans or a black skirt. It's just a snap bottom

I'm not thrilled about two things a these straps. I wish were adjustable because it's like low B

The material is like fine

but I would have rather this been like

Fabric e because I feel like then it like it's more fitted whereas this is like more like polyester material not as comfortable

But also just like not as fitted if that makes sense. I do like it

I will probably wear it if I can like figure out like not having to pull it up non-stop next remove

Oh and this is a fail. So I'm going to show this for one second. I got what looked like this super cute like washed

t-shirt dress whatever I ordered it in a medium and it's like giant both in terms of width and

Like length that it just is too long too baggy not cute next another fail boos

Let me down lately, but I really do love boo boo. Like I have some solid staples from there

That's like a little velvety bando again this actually the item in itself is fine

It's just not fine on me like this will cover

This is doesn't cover it enough and I got like a large in it. And then lastly I got this cute little wrap dress

Not the best quality and the world very thin. It's just like spandexy material the dress as a whole is super cute

it's like all wraps together in the center and then it just like hits you above the knee and then the sleeves are these like

It's all has to be and it's just this little sequin clutch that I thought was so cute would be great for holidays

even just to spice up like an all-black outfit any time of the year just having like a statement bag and it does have a

So you could take this all the way out and like carry as a purse if you would like as well and then the back

Is just this velvet. I'm very satisfied with this. You just have Topshop and

And like start clothing for a while and the buckle at the front is just this little western vibe

I'm wearing it was like black jeans and like a graphic tee is super cute next another holiday party item

Long-sleeve sequin top is so cute for like New Year's even the sleeves get a little itchy. But like it's doable

You know what? I mean? It's not like super uncomfortable

I honestly just don't think about it

but it's like every time I put it on initially I'm like, oh

It feels like that on the inside doesn't it is very flattering like all of the reflectiveness. I've found next up

Is this super random? But Topshop is very good for basics. Like basic tees I back in the spring

I got this just like white

Basic short sleeve top that like tied in the front and I wear that more than any like basic white shirt

So they had this really cute like holiday green and so I decided to pick it up

It's very thick but like soft and it's slightly cropped which is nice and then I just got another t-shirt. That's a little bit

Yeah, this one's a different style. It's more like cotton II and it's just a black t-shirt. The sleeves are a little shorter

And this is oh my gosh. Hello. And this is just like a little standard black t-shirt as we're cheap

They're gonna last you a long time. I'm like getting like for movie. For example, I'm honestly kind of over boohoo

I hate say it like I'm not over it

It's like very good for like out clothes or like fancier things kind of depending but like their t-shirts

I'm just not behind him anymore. I mean some of them I am belt

That's the thing is it's so Pinterest lastly from Topshop. This is like a oatmeal color sweater

That's like ribbed horizontally and it's a mom

That's kind of like a batwing sleeve in a way subtle batwing going in its own very very long with and lastly

We have a few things from Lulu's. I'm not one for what where did they go?

I thought any earrings in this re we're gonna hope we find those under this file next up

This is such a random item

But I saw this like MIDI slash maxi skirt, like it looks so ugly holding this up right now

But it's a maxi skirt in the back and then the front has this like really flattering wrap

Detail stitch when it's on the wrap heart some kind of like taper out as it gets lower underneath

There's like a mini skirt. So it's so cute. It's a cotton material but like stretchy

and has an elastic waistband and this would be good for like the beach if you're wanting to like wear like a

Cute beach outfit or even this can be worn with like that blini

Bodysuit from a second ago and like heels and really dress this a couple. Oh family earrings

I never really order accessories online or honestly even buy them hardly ever, but I saw this pair of

Really blingy earrings that I just thought would be super cute for the holidays again

And they just have these little gold tassels. You can use your imagination. They look really cute on it or I'll insert the clip

The Texas Vampires.

It sounds like the name of a biker gang from a bad TV show.

It sounds like a 90's rave club in Austin wherever people think that eyeliner makes you look edgy.

It sounds like a drama in which Jonah Hill and Nic Cage play two men from Houston who have to steal Liberia's oil.

But beyond those other things that it so obviously is,

the Texas Vampires refers to researchers from Baylor, Texas.

And the blood that they stole sparks one of the biggest questions on the horizon of our species.

And like all great stories, it starts with a bit of incest.

If you gave me access to your blood, and in that blood I found a cure to a disorder you had,

would I owe you that cure?

What if I found an imminent threat to your health?

Is it my duty to inform you of that threat?

Or is it my job to sell that information back to you?

Let's take it even further!

What if I find in your DNA an abnormality and isolate it.

Can I patent that abnormality?

After all, I did discover it.

But at the same time, it's a part of you.

So if I own it, do I not in essence own a part of you?

These are the questions that were thrust upon rural Newfoundland in the late 1990's

as a swarm of researchers from Baylor University descended on the region surrounding Grand Falls.

They were looking for a rare gene called ARVD, a hereditary disorder

which causes sudden, fatal heart attacks in otherwise healthy men in their 20's and 30's.

And they had reason to believe that these tiny coves on the Atlantic were the key.

And they weren't wrong.

After all, Newfoundland is a great place to study genetics under isolation.

Not to say it was done intentionally, but this island has a lot of, shall we say, pure bloodlines.

Nearly ninety percent of all islanders come from an original twenty or thirty thousand settler stock,

and coves were often settled by only one or two large families,

with little contact beyond their local region.

Much of the genetic material that had arrived from Ireland, England and Wales three hundred years ago

could still be found swirling in some of these harbours.

But those researchers from Baylor weren't here to expose any family trees as trunks.

They were here to harvest genetic material.

And as much as I joke, these were, after all, valuable blood lines.

And despite their University headline, at their core Baylor was here as a commercial operation.

Their quiet aim was to obtain a cure that they could then sell back to the very people

whose blood had made it all possible.

And like any business looking for access to a rare commodity, they weren't above lying to obtain it.

In turn, people here felt truly taken advantage of.

It's important to understand that the outporters of Newfoundland aren't accustomed to contracts.

They don't own suits, and they don't like cities.

They're the types of people who still use landline phones to get in contact with someone

who runs the general store.

They fish all day, eat moose straight out of the forest, and think any type of bread

but a straight white loaf is putting on airs.

They're some of the nicest people you'll ever meet in your life,

but its easy to see how they could be taken advantage of.

Some residents report being coerced into signing through intimidation efforts that aimed at their health.

Remember that these are foreign doctors arriving in a small town saying that there is a chance

that you're going to just keel over dead at any time.

And if you give them your blood, they might be able to find out who the lucky ones are.

Or even better, they might be able to cure it.

Other people just simply didn't understand what they were signing.

What they did understand is that this was a university who had arrived needing help.

And it was polite to help.

So they helped.

It was only after everybody left and the information stopped coming that they started to ask,

what happened to us.

The CBC did an investigative report and asked Baylor directly what they'd intended to do to make it right,

but the University simply refused to answer any questions.

They had the blood now, and that was that.

Eventually, using the samples they'd obtained in Newfoundland, the team of researchers announced

they'd isolated the gene that causes ARVD.

A potentially lucrative breakthrough.

And while I sympathize with the outport Newfoundlanders, I do understand

where the researchers are coming from.

It isn't as though they were trying to do evil.

From their point of view, they're ultimately helping the Newfoundlanders.

By commercializing their genetic problem, they're allowing them the opportunity to purchase back a solution.

And while some people might focus on the word purchase, they were choosing to focus on the word opportunity.

It's better than the no solution they had before.

I think that the real issue here was that this was a bit of true Texas culture,

misunderstood in the Newfoundland ear.

For a people long accustomed to Canadian government healthcare, they couldn't imagine

that due to a hastily signed contract the right to their DNA might no longer be theirs.

That the doctors weren't there to help them.

The problem that we face is deeper than simply who owns which blood.

Because the real issue at stake is who owns the genetics within.

We are quietly sitting on the bloom of a very different time, genetically.

Biotech is the new space race.

And just like the information age has stolen our data and monetized it for their profit,

so too will the geneticists.

From the labs of Baylor University, they've already begun.

Which isn't to say that it's by definition bad.

I believe that both sides have valid reasons supporting their points.

Information is money.

I get that.

But it does raise questions.

Let's say that a company finds a variation within your DNA for the cure for Huntington's.

Hundreds of people around the world would pay you millions for it,

and any company that can isolate the gene would be handsomely rewarded.

But if this company is going to be turning a profit from a cure that's based on access to my DNA,

shouldn't I be the one selling my DNA on the open market?

Why let them do it?

If the point of profit making in pharmaceuticals is that it's the person taking the risk who profits,

shouldn't the person who might die at any given time be the one considered taking the risk?

In effect, doesn't that mean that these researchers from Texas just conned foreign citizens out of valuable property?

Raw ore may not be steel, but it's still considered valuable.

I don't know the answer.

I'm certainly not an expert on the subject.

Law or biology.

But I do know that the people of Newfoundland are right pissed at those Texans.

Pissed enough to nickname them vampires.

And while it's all well and good that Newfoundland learned from its outrage,

there's more to it than the ownership of blood.

Stories like this hint at a future just beyond a quickly opening door.

What are the economics of designer genetics?

Will the model for your deep blue eyes have been handsomely rewarded?

Or is that minimum wage job?

Will the flowing locks of amber hair that are the new fad of an altered generation even know he'd been harvested?

Or would he have simply used a glass after not reading some newspaper's waiver?

How quickly before celebrities and pro-athletes are selling their personal features to the highest bidders?

They'd be a worth a fortune.

You know it.

I can think of so many men who'd pay a year's salary to make sure their son had Brad Pitt's chin.

Information is money, and DNA – the personal characteristics that make us, us,

will undoubtedly become a new battleground in that eventual market.

Although I wonder if the same thing can be said about disorder.

Maybe someday being born with a crippling disability might come with the upside of

being able to sell your genetic misfortune for cash.

Or maybe the government will simply force you to hand it over for the public good.

Depends on the nation, I suppose.

It is nice to think of the little guy getting something back for his suffering though.

I don't think it's likely, but if the genetic revolution is as uprooting as I expect it to be,

I hope there's at least some silver lining for the freaks.

I do doubt it though.

A fisherman rarely gets his share.

Instead, I bet their blood's gonna be swindled away by some Jonah Hill looking Texan

with black eyeliner and an overworked syringe.

Supreme Court Could Make It More Difficult For Law Enforcement To Confiscate Your Property - Duration: 4:07.

The Supreme Court recently heard oral arguments in a case that may result in some involuntary

reforms to state civil asset forfeiture laws, making it more difficult for states to confiscate

cars and houses and other property that's even tangentially used in the commission of

a crime.

That's kind of the state of law right now.

You commit a crime and buddy, they're going to grab up everything they can.

So, tell me what's developing with this?

What is the Supreme Court thinking about here?

Well, it seems as if they are certainly going to side on the Institute for Justice, which

is the organization that's providing an attorney for this particular individual.

Right.

So this case centers around this guy named Tyson Timbs of Indiana.

He was busted by undercover cops for selling them $400 worth of heroin.

In his punishment, he received a year of house arrest.

He also received fines and then they confiscated his $42,000 Land Rover.

So the Institute for Justice is basically arguing and did argue successfully before

a state court as well as an Indiana State Appeals Court.

That because this was his property, that it was a small amount that he was accused of

basically selling that it was a disproportionate, grossly disproportionate punishment to his

crime.

So it fell under the excessive fines ban under the Constitution's 8th Amendment.

So the appeals court upheld it.

A judge agreed with them initially and the appeals court upheld it, but the Indiana State

Supreme Court said, oh no, we don't want to do that.

Its property.

It doesn't apply.

That particular bill of rights section doesn't apply...

It clearly...

To states.

Yeah it clearly applies to states.

And the justices are saying that.

And there are other states that have said, you know what, we're not going to do that.

We're not going to; this law, they've actually interfered with the performance of certain

federal laws even on some of this forfeiture.

But I mean this is so basic.

It goes back to the Magna Carta, doesn't it?

Yes.

What was it, 1225 or something?

Yes.

So way back in the day, even back to piracy, they said that some of these laws originated

with dealing with pirates confiscating property, but different laws including, you know, going

back to England, the Virginia Declaration of Rights, Gorsuch, Neil Gorsuch even mentioned

that in particular when they were arguing this case in Supreme Court.

He said this is going back, that there are deep history ties that protect a person against

excessive fines and that this clearly falls under excessive fines.

And they did argue against this particular solicitor general because he was saying, well,

it's because it's property, it shouldn't apply to states that this particular bill of rights,

part of it shouldn't be applied to states when every other part of the bill of rights

has been incorporated.

Right.

Okay, so there's one indicator already.

I mean, Gorsuch has always been in favor of just a vast amount of power in the hands of

government.

So now he's saying maybe we're overreaching when we use a marijuana bust, of 10 ounces

of marijuana to take the car, and the house, and you know, the vacation home.

That's how crazy this has become.

Yes.

As a matter of fact, it's so crazy that in some states there doesn't even have to be

an arrest.

You understand?

Yes.

They take this, take this property even before there's an official arrest and what ends up

happening is that person has to fight their way out.

No, you're exactly right.

And there was another one of the justices as well who argue the same thing.

Breyer, he apotheosized for this particular Indiana State Solicitor General saying under

your argument that because it's property, it doesn't apply to the states.

What if a driver's going five miles over the speed limit?

They could be in a jalopy or they can be an extremely expensive car under your rationale

and argument that can be confiscated.

And he was like, well, yeah, you're right.

So anyway, it certainly looks like they're leaning.

I would expect that kind of argument out of Breyer.

I don't know that I would expect a pro victim kind of argument out of Gorsuch, but you know

what, sometimes the Supreme Court will surprise you.

You're right.

Well, and they're raking in billions of dollars off these forfeitures, so you're right.

It will, they may surprise us.
