I'm glad that I'm ending my US trip with this tour
It is my last day and I'll be returining to India tomorrow
amidst all these people and all of them are tourists
the best thing is right now I'm in the top most university of the world
I am in The Harvard University
It is 2 minutes to be 11 and I have reached Harvard
If you would like to visit Harvard University
You can take the walking tour
It is a great means to explore Harvard University
I've to show them the GoBoston Card that I bought
They'd scan the voucher
Checking with the Attendant at the counter
The tour would cost you $12
Tour guide welcoming the tourists for the tour
Founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg used to live here on this very campus
He was a student of Harvard University
I feel this is the most interesting tour so far I've been on
Our guide, Noah is a student of this campus
He's a medical student and has been here for the last 5 years
He's been guiding us really well and is very informative
Let me tell you some interesting facts about this place
Students from near about 80 different countries study here
It is the oldest institute for higher education in USA
For a long time female students were not allowed to study here in this institute
Gradually they were permitted to study here
Boston City took its inception during the 1600s
Within 2 years from then, this university started functioning
The British academicians used to sail all the way in the wooden ships for 3 months to teach here
Then they would teach here for the next 6 months
then they would travel back for the next 3 months
that really speaks for their dedication towards education that they come all the way to teach
As you know the history of USA
The USA is one such nation that has immigrants from all over the world who have settled here
It began with Europeans who migrated here to teach
Well let me tell you on whose name is the Harvard University instituted on
Actually Harvard University is named after a student
The student's name was John Harvard
Two years after the inception of the university, Harvard, a student then, passed away
donating all his property and belongings to the university as per the will
As a result of that this university is named after him as
Harvard University named after John Harvard
As you can see folks are clicking pictures with the statue there
A statue that is definitely not a statue of John Harvard
It's very interesting that no one knows whose statue is this
It's 2nd June today, on 24th of May there was a ceremony held here
that's called Graduation here while it's called Convocation in our country
The day when you are awarded your degree
In Hindi it's called Deekshaanth Samaaroh
Noah says, "36,000 chairs were laid here for the graduation ceremony"
This is the library and it has a story of it's own
The one who has funded this library laid down a standing rule
that this library will the stay the same as it is
and cannot be extended beyond its periphery and height
So they have figured out way to work around this rule
The basement has 3 different levels below the surface
There are 3 floors below this huge library building
It spans from here to all the way there
After completing the walking tour of Harvard University
I have reached the Cambridge area of Boston right now
Behind me is the MIT Museum which opens from 10am to 5pm
Let's see how much would be the ticket here
It's $10 for adults and $5 for children
Wow! It's making a sound there
So I'll leave now and if we have time there are a lot of great things worth watching
"Hey, what's this boy?"
This is a camera and I make videos for Youtube
Please.. Please Come....
It's raining outside
Where do you folks come from?
"We've come from Mumbai"
Are you guys on tour to this place?
"No our son lives in Seattle"
I'm from Delhi; I'm on a trip this place to travel around
It's been a month here in US, so when I met this elderly couple from Mumbai
So as they were leaving I bade them a bye like this
I wouldn't have done it that way had I been elsewhere
That too with elders, it would have been different
Looks like, America is having it's spell on me
The time has arrived, that I have to take leave from here
It's 5.40 in the evening, the trip is over and now
I'm leaving now from this gentleman Richard's place
I am leaving now
I'll take a bus, then redline subway, then the Silverline1 and then Logan International Airport, Boston
My flight is at 9.30pm
And then ta-ta buh-bye USA
"I like the sound of your voice; I like your dialect"
Richard listing people..
This gentleman has hosted people from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and several other places
Richard sharing his experience of hitch hiking
Couchsurfing is generally free and there is no monetary transaction allowed and accepted here
But it definitely makes them feel good when you take something to eat, drink or some gifts as pleasantries
So even I carry something in my own way of my own choice for my host
but when it comes to gifts, if you're backpacking it'll be a hassle to carry big gifts
So pick something which is lighter and appealing and unique
You can look upon the internet on the list things that you can gift a host
You are a guest, it's always better to be humble and helpful to your host and it determines their hospitality
So do not hesitate to help and to be generous while picking gifts for them
I do it my own ways I am sure you all do it your ways
So if you have any new ideas of gifting your hosts of couch surfing, please do share
and if I like them I'll definitely consider the ideas and try them and suggest other too
Attendant making an announcement
Seems like there is a change
"1, 2 and 3 upstairs"
This is amazing, You have us run around with all the stuff
It was 4th of May around 9.30pm I got down here from one of these buses
As I got down, I was astonished by these magnificent buildings standing tall
This place is called South Station I am feeling really good
With the sky scrapers and magnificent buildings, I'm feeling the US
That was the day when I landed in USA and today I'm leaving back
