Once upon a time, there was a donkey that used to work very hard everyday.
But he was very old now and could not work.
One morning, his owner stopped feeding him.
'My owner doesn't want to keep me anymore,' he sighed sadly.
He walked out of the barn and headed for the town called Bremen.
He thought he might have a chance to join the town musicians in Bremen.
After leaving the barn, he met a dog crouching down on the road.
"Are you OK? What's wrong?"
"My owner doesn't want to keep me anymore. I am too old to hunt. I don't know what to do."
" Same here! Why don't you come with me and join the town musicians in Bremen?"
The dog decided to go to Bremen with the donkey.
After a while they met a cat soaked to the skin.
"What happened to you?"
The donkey asked the cat.
"My owner threw me into the river because I am too old to catch mice.
An awful thing to do!"
"Why don't you join us and go to Bremen if you have nowhere to go."
So the cat joined them and they continued to walk to Bremen.
As the three were passing a farmhouse, a rooster was crowing loudly.
The donkey asked the rooster.
"Why are you crowing during the daytime? Is anything wrong?"
"I am too old to crow early in the morning. I'm going to be in the farmer's soup pot tomorrow."
"You guys, please listen my last crowing, cock-a-doodle-doo!"
"What a wonderful crow! Come to Bremen with us. The four of us could play great music!"
The rooster also joined them and headed for Bremen.
As night time approached, they went into the woods and found a lighted house.
The tallest of the four, the donkey, peeked through the window.
He saw thieves eating a feast and counting gold coins in the house.
"What can you see?" The dog asked and the donkey told what he saw.
"Do you think we could have that feast?"
The rooster asked the other three
so they began discussing how they could drive the thieves out of the house.
Finally they agreed upon a plan.
The dog jumped onto the donkey,
the cat jumped onto the dog,
and then the rooster jumped onto the cat.
"One two three, Hee-haw! Bow-wow!, Mew!, Cock-a doodle-doo!"
Crying very loud, they dashed into the room.
The thieves were so surprised by their horrifying cry that they ran away into the woods.
Now the four of them sat at the table
and filled their empty stomachs with the feast the thieves left.
At midnight, one of thieves came back to check the house.
The house was almost dark but he saw something shining like fire.
He entered the house and tried to light a candle from it which were eyes of the cat.
The cat scratched his face with its sharp nails.
"Help!, help!" He dashed to the door to escape.
Then the dog bit his leg. The thief was in a panic and ran to the yard.
Then the donkey sleeping on the straws kicked the thief as hard as he could.
The rooster, sleeping on the roof, woke up by the sound of the thief being kicked.
"Cock-a doodle-doo!" The rooster cried excitedly.
The thieve was surprised by the loud cry and ran away to his boss.
At last, he arrived and told his boss while gasping for breath.
"A witch with an ugly evil voice and a strong power was in the house!"
The story made all the thieves very scared and nobody wanted go back there.
The four animals really got to like the house so they decided to stay there.
They played music together and lived happily ever after.
