5 Tips for Small Talk - Duration: 4:48.
A lot of people think that small talk is trivial and annoying.
They think that talking about the weather or a TV show is a complete waste of time.
"Can we skip this chit chat and just get to work?"
But what they don't know is that small talk could lead to a promotion or even a future job.
Small talk is the name given to short, surface level conversations that we have with people
in line at the grocery story, with the person next to us on the bus, or with a colleague
that we see as we're walking down the hallways at work.
These conversations have a function.
They're to build community, especially in the workplace.
Here are 5 tips for small talk to help you go beyond.
The first tip is to "ask questions relevant to the immediate."
For example, if you're in the lunch room, you can ask a colleague, "Uh, how often do
you bring your lunch to work?"
If you're waiting for the shuttle back home, you could ask a colleague, "What part of the
city do you live in?"
When you ask questions relevant to the immediate, it feels a little bit more natural, as opposed
to being in the lunch room and asking a person what part of the city do they live in or waiting
for the shuttle and asking your colleague, "Well, how often do you bring your lunch to work?"
The second tip for small talk is when you ask questions, to remember to listen.
Be careful about interrupting. For example,
"Hey Michael, so what are you up to this weekend?"
"Oh, um, I think I'm going to do some yoga---"
"Oh, really? I do Iyenga Yoga.
Iyengar Yoga is like the grammar of yoga.
It's kind of like you have to get in the pose..."
Blah, blah.
This is really common.
I recommend showing enthusiasm for small talk by listening.
Ask your question, then let them finish, and then you can add what you have to say.
For example, you could say, "Oh, that's pretty cool. Oh, I do Iyengar Yoga.
It's kind of like the grammar of yoga.
Have you ever heard of it?"
The third tip is always to have a story.
Have a specific story at hand in case somebody engages you in small talk.
For example, on Mondays, you know what the small talk topic is going to be.
It's going to be: What did you do over the weekend?
So, if somebody engages you in small talk, instead of being general and saying,
"Uh, not much...," you want to have a specific story.
It doesn't have to be something extraordinary, like you went bungee jumping over the weekend.
It could be something small and meaningful that happened to you over the weekend, like
you went to that new Greek restaurant that opened up in your neighborhood.
Or, you saw a really interesting article on Facebook.
This gives the other person something that they can relate to and possibly comment on
to continue the small talk.
The fourth tip for small talk is to watch the news or read headlines on your phone for
about five minutes a day.
Get to know some of the major topics that are happening currently.
That way if there is a lull in the conversation, you can bring that topic up.
But be careful of heavy topics.
You know: like politics and religion.
You want to steer clear of those topics because if you are talking with someone that you don't
really know, a debate might start.
And that is going to make things strangely awkward.
The fifth tip for small talk is to be present.
To be in the moment.
Nowadays we are so distracted by everything that's going on: we've got our smartphones
and our laptops open.
Get to the work meeting five minutes early and engage people in small talk.
If someone pulls out their smartphone and starts texting away, don't pull out yours.
Be present.
When you give an invitation to small talk, yes you're being vulnerable.
You're putting yourself out there.
Small talk takes practice.
And, a little bit of courage.

Fuji Guys - FUJINON GF250mm, 1.4x TC & Extension tubes - First Look - Duration: 4:55.
Hey I'm Billy and I'm Francis and we're the Fuji Guys today we are super
excited because we have some brand new serious toys to play with. I have the GFX 50s
along with the brand new GF 250mmF4. I got three new accessories to work with
the GFX system so you want to learn more about these products keep on watching.
So I have two brand-new GF 250mmF4 right here. This is a pretty good
telephoto range because this pretty much at 198mmn so let's say 200. So it's
really good for portrait and even though it's f/4 you're gonna get that really
nice and creamy out-of-focus area.
There's a few feature to this lens.
First of all it's weather sealed like all of our lenses for the GFX lineup.
And you have a focus limiter so you can go from 5M to infinity or you can have the
full range so if you want to get closer to your subject as well.
This lens OIS, so optical image stabilized, and it's actually really really good other than
that you have the buttons on the lens so you can focus with it or you can set a
focus distance to it, so it gets back to it, whenever you press on the button or
you can just have it to AF-L which basically locks your focus.
So pretty much the four buttons up there you can use them I like your back button focus.
So we're going to try it out. I have the Profoto B1X setup and I'm gonna take
some portraits of Billy. We're gonna test a high-speed sync and a TTL function of
the B1X and we'll see what the results are.
So Francis finished playing with the GF 250mm I have the new tele-converter
with me it's a 1.4 times and makes this in terms of equivalency for
35 to about 275mm so I'm going to test this out and see how it looks it.
It is weather resistant and fully sealed just like the whole GFX system
Okay so we move to the studio and now we are going to play with the extension
tubes. What is really cool with these tubes is that you can actually put them
on any lenses and reduce the minimum focus distance of your lens so if you
want to do product shots or stuff like that and not necessarily have a
one-to-one macro but just really get close to your subject the extension
tubes are really good options for that. So let's go ahead and do some product shots with them
So I've just stacked together the two extension tubes and that's if you really
want to get extremely close. As you can see the x100 is quite close to the 63mm
and that way you just have to keep in mind though, the further way you
push the lens from the sensor the shallower your depth of field is gonna
be so you really have to close down the aperture if you want somewhat of a
larger depth of field. So I'm just gonna pop a shot.
This is crazy this is so close.

The Last Jedi is Racist - Duration: 8:12.
The controversy around the Last Jedi, the latest installment in the Star Wars saga,
refuses to die.
Fans are viciously attacking the director Rian Johnson, and all the people behind him.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score for the movie is the lowest of all Star Wars movies,
much lower than the maligned prequels.
The creators, meanwhile, are dismissive of the backlash, which only serves to fuel the
anger.
The movie is attacked on many different levels, but there is one criticism which I think that
it merits, and which I didn't see anyone make.
So, it appears it is up to me to make the charge.
There will be spoilers.
When I first saw The Last Jedi, I mostly liked it.
The second act was boring, but I did enjoy it overall.
The best thing about it were the plot twists, which definitely subverted my expectations.
When I watched it the second time, however, I enjoyed it much less.
As many have pointed out, the plot twists have a diminishing effect on the overall story,
and make it less interesting.
Then again, there are some things about this movie that I do find to be good and interesting,
and I don't hate it.
But there was something about it that was bugging me, something about its politics that
felt off, and I was trying to put my finger on what it was.
The producers of the movie made no secret that they had a feminist agenda.
It seems that they wanted to create more female heroes, which will inspire young girls.
If that was the intent, however, the execution is so comically horrible that it totally backfired.
We are introduced to two new female characters, Rose Tico and Admiral Holdo, two characters
that are so bad that they make some fans pine for Jar Jar Binks.
Holdo, in particular, almost feels like an intended sabotage by the writers, like a desperate
cry for help.
It's almost as if they are trying to hint to us that they are working under the leadership
of someone who has no idea what she's doing, and gives them no directions on how they should
proceed.
As for the established female characters, Leia is put in a coma for most of the movie,
Rey is stripped of any interesting features she had in the previous film and becomes an
extremely boring character, and the treatment that the Phasma character gets is just insulting.
Even worse, the movie turned out as if it was written by someone who secretly thinks
women have no place on the battlefield, and should go back to the kitchen.
Both Holdo and Rose act in completely irrational ways, and if it isn't for Luke Skywalker's
deus ex machina, their actions and decisions would have got everyone killed.
So this movie is terrible to women, but that's not the thing that bothered me.
That just made me scoff at the incompetence of the people who made it.
But there was something else, and I eventually figured out what it is.
This movie is racist as fuck.
Science fiction and fantasy have some very important functions in an enlightened society.
One of these functions is to open our minds, make us experience strange worlds and see
the humanity in creatures that are different from us.
Kids who grow up learning how to do that, will be more open to accepting people who
are eccentric, or people who come from other cultures.
And Star Wars has always been an honorable member in this tradition.
Every episode in the saga introduced us to new alien worlds, to new alien characters.
It is something that we've come to expect from a Star Wars movie.
But The Last Jedi takes this tradition, and chucks it over its shoulder in contempt.
It reverses the trend, making the Star Wars universe smaller instead of bigger.
The only new worlds that we are introduced to are either uninhabited planets, or a place
that might have just as well been Las Vegas.
The only new aliens that we are introduced to are alien animals, not speaking characters.
It feels like the writers care only about humans, and regard other intelligent species
as inferior or redundant.
Just watch what they did to the alien characters that we know and love.
Chewbacca, one of the biggest heroes of the saga, is demoted to a minor figure.
Snoke, who was built up as the main villain, is eliminated and revealed as just a side
character in the story of the human villains Kylo and Hux.
Maz Kanata and Yoda get about thirty seconds of screen time each.
It's as if we are being told that these alien characters don't matter.
But the real slap in the face to Star Wars fans, and to aliens everywhere, is what has
been done to a character that owes its fame mainly to the fans.
The trout, the meme, the legend, Admiral Ackbar.
Ackbar, a minor figure in the movies, has been elevated by the fandom over the years
and became a beloved icon.
The writers had the chance to let him go out in a blaze of glory, doing the alahu ackbar
suicide charge.
Instead, they just killed him off, and gave the honor to Admiral Holdo, a character we
didn't know and didn't care about, a character we come to care about even less once we get
to know her, a human that turns out to be the worst commander since Humphrey Bogart
in The Caine Mutiny, a woman whose disastrous leadership leads to the death of about ninety
percent of her people.
It feels like the creators are telling Star Wars fans: screw you, you alien lovers.
We are going to let a member of the superior race be the hero.
Because even the worst human is still better than those filthy creatures you love so much.
Instead of diversity of species, we get what we always get when bigots try to pretend that
they are actually open-minded: tokenism.
The cast is so-called diverse, but this diversity is made up of the kind of human identities
that are popular to promote nowadays: blacks, Asians, women, Latinos etc.
Now, this type of human racial diversity definitely has merit when the story takes place on Earth.
It gives you the ability to discuss race relations, and make it a theme in the movie.
But what is the point of doing it in a story that takes place a long, long time ago, in
a galaxy far, far away?
There was never any indication of racial tensions between humans in the Star Wars universe.
So basically, what we get is a snapshot of today's America, being foisted on the Star
Wars universe.
From a saga that taught generations of American kids to open their minds and experience other
worlds, we've devolved into a movie that implies that America is the only world there is.
It is possible that all of this is purely accidental.
It could be that the creators focused on certain themes, and didn't realize how they are shrinking
the Star Wars universe.
But it feels indicative of something bad that is going over Hollywood, and other sections
of pop culture.
It seems that the current generation of creators wants to espouse liberal values, but don't
understand what liberalism is.
They have a regressive mindset, and it shows in their creations.
And so, we find ourselves in an era in which Hollywood creators are far less enlightened
than their audience, and the audience feels it.
The disgruntled fans have not been complaining about the things I brought up here, but I
think this is where some of their complaints are coming from.
Star Wars fans love the diversity, the ability to experience a bigger universe with other
species.
When you diminish their universe and turn it into nothing but a facsimile of their daily
world, they feel hollowed out.
Most of us simply don't like narrow-mindedness – it generates a bad feeling in us.
It looks like the Star Wars franchise is currently being run by narrow-minded people, and this
better change fast.
It's a path to the Dark Side.

Barack Hussein Obama reemerged this week to do something that shows where his priorities
lay all along.
Throughout his time in the White House, Obama repeatedly showed that his many priority was
making friends with the Hollywood A-listers.
This was just proven once again when it was announced that Obama is preparing to drop
everything to attend a fundraiser in Beverly Hills, the ritzy area of Los Angeles where
the wealthiest Hollywood elites reside.
Politico reported that Obama is listed as a special guest at an upcoming Beverly Hills
fundraiser for Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.).
The fundraiser will be hosted by film studio executive Jeffrey Katzenberg, filmmaker Steven
Spielberg and others Los Angeles-area heavyweights, including director J.J. Abrams and his wife,
Katie McGrath.
McCaskill is known as one of the most vulnerable Democrats heading into the midterm elections,
as she is running in a state that Donald Trump won in 2016.
She will be running against Republican state Attorney General Josh Hawley.
McCaskill and Obama have been allies for years, as she backed in in 2008 when he ran against
Hillary Clinton in the primaries.
However, we think this appearance has less to do with McCaskill and more to do with the
fact that it will give Obama a chance to hobnob with the rich and famous of Hollywood.
There was certainly nothing he loved more than that when he was in office!
Beverly Hills is one of the few places in America where Obama is still worshipped as
a God, as Americans who actually work for a living much prefer Trump to him.
Once again, members of the Hollywood elite are showing how out of touch they are by worshipping
the ground Obama walks on and inviting him to their pathetic fundraisers.

Saudi Arabia intercepts three MISSILES over Riyadh as EXPLOSIONS rock capital
A RADICAL armed Islamist group launched at a salvo of three ballistic missiles at Saudi
Arabia this afternoon – further increasing powder-keg tensions across the Middle East.
One of the targets was the country's Ministry of Defence, it was reported.
The missile attack is being blamed on Iran-backed anti-western Islamists known as the Houthis,
based in neighbouring Yemen.
Saudi air defences were reported as having intercepted three missiles flying over the
capital Riyadh and the southern cities of Jizan and Najran.
Saudi-owned broadcaster Al Arabiya TV confirmed Saudi Arabia had been forced to intercept
the weapons as it headed towards the southern city of Jizan.
In a statement, the Saudi-led coalition said it was blown up over Najran.
One of the targets of the strikes was the Saudi Defence Ministry in the capital, the
armed group's Al Masirah TV said on Twitter.
Yemen's Houthis claimed to have also targeted a Saudi Aramco distribution facility.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
Al Arabiya said earlier that Saudi air defence forces had intercepted a missile over Riyadh
after at least three blasts were heard in the capital.
This is the fourth time in five months that missiles have flown over Riyadh.
Amid rising tensions in the region the Houthis want to demonstrate they can reach the Saudi
capital.
Experts on the region warn the rebel group's actions could escalate into a war between
Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Previous attacks cost Yemen dearly as a Saudi-led coalition of Middle Eastern states launched
air strikes in the country which killed hundreds.
The United Nations estimated that 10,000 people have died in the three-year-old war and said
that more than 22 million civilians need relief aid.
The missiles followed the downing of two Houthi drones earlier today in Jizan and the nearby
Saudi city of Abha, the coalition said.
Last month the Saudi army intercepted seven missiles over Riyadh launched by the rebels.
The falling debris from those missiles killed one Egyptian man, who became the first victim
on Saudi ground since the beginning of the conflict in 2015.
Al Arabiya broadcaster reported that the attack was "launched indiscriminately to target
civilian areas and population".
The Saudis claimed to have intercepted and destroyed all the missiles with their air
defence systems.
The Yemeni government, which has been fighting the Houthi militia since the 1990s, blamed
the rebels for the missile attacks.
The Saudi-led coalition accuses the Houthis of being armed and supported by Iran, charges
that both the group and Tehran deny.
It stated: "While the Yemeni government expresses its strong condemnation of this criminal and
terrorist act of Iran and its tools represented by the Houthi militia, the government also
praised the high efficiency and capabilities of the Saudi Air Defence Forces in intercepting
and destroying Iran's ballistic missiles."
The Houthis, officially called Ansar Allah, are members of an armed Islamic movement that
emerged in the north of Yemen in the 1990s.
Tensions between the group and the central government of Yemen started to rise in the
1990s and broke out in 2004, when its founder Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi led a rebellion
against the then President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Since last year, the rebel group has been led by al-Houthi's brother, Abdul-Malik.
The US also condemned previous attacks launched by the Yemenite rebels.
Last March, Washington said that it supported "the right of our Saudi partners to defend
their borders against these threats".
The strikes come amid growing tensions in the Middle East that could drag Western countries
into a war against Syria-backing Russia.
Syrian rebels accused the country leader Bashar al-Assad of using chemical weapons during
raids between April 7-9.
Reports suggested more than 500 people, mostly women and children, were taken to medical
centres with difficulty breathing, foaming at the mouth and burning sensations in the
eyes.
The attack comes almost exactly a year after a chemical atrocity in the northern Syrian
town of Khan Sheikhoun killed dozens of people.
US President Donald Trump announced the country will respond to the attack.
He wrote on Twitter: "Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria.

Paul Ryan Announces Retirement, Takes Credit For 2 Of Trump's Biggest Achievements - Duration: 4:29.
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) just announced that he will retire at the end of
his term.
The RINO from Wisconsin decided to grandstand and give himself a huge piece of credit for
two of President Donald Trump's biggest achievements.
This will make your blood boil.
Paul Ryan's disdain for President Trump has been no secret from the very beginning.
As Speaker of the House, Ryan made it clear that he would never defend Trump, so it's
no surprise that millions of American patriots are beyond excited to hear that he announced
his retirement on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
In true RINO fashion, Ryan got up in front of the horde of reporters and did a little
self-aggrandizing and even went a little further with the credit he took in part for things
that never would have happened without President Trump.
"I wanted to share with you a little of what I just told my colleagues a few minutes
ago.
You realize something when you take this job.
It's a big job with a lot riding on you, and you feel it.
But, you also know that this is a job that does not last forever.
You realize that you hold the office for just a small part of our history," Ryan said.
"So, you better make the most of it.
It's fleeting.
And, that inspires you to do big things.
And, on that score, I think we have achieved a heck of a lot.
You all know that I did not seek this job.
I took it reluctantly, but I have given this job everything that I have, and I have no
regrets whatsoever for having accepted this responsibility," Ryan added, according to
Breitbart.
Ryan went on to say that serving in Congress is one of the two biggest honors of his life
and that being a dad and father is the other one.
After taking a moment to recognize the sacrifices made by his family, Ryan emphasized that he
is not resigning immediately and will serve out his full term.
The Speaker of the House said he will be retiring in January 2019, and he believes he is leaving
the House in good hands, according to Daily Caller.
"It's almost hard to believe, but I have been a member of Congress for two decades.
This is my 20th year in Congress," Ryan said.
Next, Ryan started giving himself and others a pat on the back for things that just would
not have happened if Donald Trump were not the President.
Let's not forget that Ryan never wanted Trump elected and openly despised the President
even after the inauguration.
"So, I'm really proud of what we've been able to do.
When I took this job, one of my conditions was aim high.
That we do big things.
That we fashion an agenda, we run on that agenda, that we win an election, and then,
we execute that agenda," Ryan said.
This part of his speech was hilarious due to the fact that the agenda Ryan is talking
about is Trump's.
Ryan has taken a position much opposite of Trump's on many issues over the last year
and for him to get up in front of a bunch of reporters and claim some kind of credit
for the current agenda is absolutely ludicrous.
Some may argue that Ryan pushed through key Trump initiatives, but let's not forget
that many members of his own party floated the idea of getting rid of him for failure
to perform.
Ryan continued helping himself to more credit.
"I am so proud that that is exactly what we have done and what we are doing right now.
We've accomplished so much since then.
Probably the two biggest achievements for me are first, the major reform of our tax
code for the first time in thirty-six years.
Which has already been a huge success for this country and that's something I've
been working on in my entire adult life," Ryan said.
"Second, something I got much much more invested on since becoming speaker is to rebuild
our nation's military.
And after tax reform, addressing our military's readiness crisis, that was a top priority
that we got done last month as well.
These, I see as lasting victories that will make this country more prosperous and more
secure for decades to come," Ryan added.
It's odd to hear Ryan say the words "our" and "we" in regards to landmark accomplishments.
The bottom line is that Ryan was not very productive as a member of Congress until Trump
entered the White House.
He really can't, in all honesty, get up and tout those achievements as part of his
legacy because his agenda has been so much more liberal than Trump's.
Thank God, Ryan is leaving Congress; we need a Speaker of the House who wants to make America
great again.
