Marine Lab Tour at Concordia University Irvine: 2000 Gallons with 50 Local Species! - Duration: 6:39.
Hey folks Robert from Marine Depot here.
And I'm at the Concordia University in Marine Lab to take all of you on a very special tour and check out some really awesome
animals
Alright, so what are we looking at here Sean.
So this is is one of our sort of showcase tanks where we put some of our bigger species right now
We've got swimming around a swell shark, we got a got a horn shark
Both adults though not full size so they could be a little bit larger
And then these these fish over here are called rock wrasse another local species
And there's a giant kelp fish that's hanging out. Sort of underneath our camera here
This is our live stream camera that we have streaming out of our webpage some artificial
algae's and seagrass Fucas the the
Rock weed, you know California for a long time we had that big problem with Coulerpa on our coasts
I think there's like the Coulerpa Action California Coulerpa Action Team.
Is that still an issue? I haven't heard anything definitive to say it's not. I doubt that ever will be not a problem at all
Right because once this species of invades, it's almost impossible to get rid of it.
So so they are still I know in some of the surveying groups like Reef Check California
They're still on the list of species to look out for and you're gonna definitely wanna record those when you see em.
What do we got here? Dungeness it looks like. Yeah, it's a little, a little Rock Crab.
Noah, hes the Marine Lab manager.
He goes down with our collecting permit and sets out some crab nets every once in a while.
A then we have a variety of other invertebrates.
Down on this on this rack. These are oftentimes the
Animals that we take out to the mobile touch tanks for our outreach events at schools. So we've got you know our warty sea cucumbers
These are basically our cleanup crew
We have purple urchins, red urchins, giant keyhole limpets, wavy turban snails.
I know Concordia there's a lot of outreach with
Like local events and they bring the touch tanks to sort of bring awareness for conservation and you know Marine Biology to kids.
But I've always kind of wondered like how do these animals hold up to being touched and moved?
Like what you guys do do I get sort of prevent that and protect the animals?
Yeah
So a lot of that I comes from selection of what animals we take.
So we take all the invertebrates and we're taking invertebrates that tend to hold up pretty well. So
things like sea stars and urchins and snails.
Tend to do really well in those situations
Things are a little more sensitive are sea hairs and sea cucumbers
So we have to be a little bit more cautious with those
But for instance our our sea stars have been
Used for the last two and a half years with this the touch tank program and and they're still trucking along
Up top we've got a this is kind of just a holding tank. We've got some
Pismo clams so one of the other research projects we do here. Is a, its surveying the population of Pismo Clams in Orange County?
We're trying different tagging materials
putting metal tags onto the clams and ultimately once we work out the methodology plant them back out on the beach and
Be able to detect them where we go back with the metal detector
This is our, Life Support, yeah this is our life support. Its all custom built.
So what we do here we have a main pump, its a 1 horsepower pump that's sort of hidden in the back their.
it circulates our water through our
UV sterilizers. So we've got eight tubes in line
Um, I believe those are each 55 watt UV sterilizers.
And then from there it runs
Down into our chiller, a one horsepower chiller up through a check valve
to prevent backflow or siphoning from our tanks and then back up to the tanks
We run our system here about 16 or 17 degrees Celsius
Which is about sixty to sixty two to three degrees Fahrenheit. Everything is grounded to flow back down to the sump.
we've got bags activate carbon filter media.
We have a Ceramic, you know high surface area biological filtration media
We've got a real a real basic mechanical filter. Our main filtration is done by our gigantic
protein skimmer, so
This one doesn't fit the sump like most skimmers. This one was built by Rk2 systems in San Diego and this
Is running all the time on a subset of our water and actually dumps into a trickle filter also has bio balls in it
What this one right here?
So this is our water level indicator and it's the water levels you can see peeking out from behind.
For our home aquarists, why is it important to use unions and valves?
It's important because you will inevitably need to replace a part of your plumbing or you'll have a leak. You want to isolate it
and being able to
Take apart a piece of equipment and swap out a piece of equipment for another one without having to cut all your plumbing
and a redo it completely is really really good. So always use unions, always use unions.

and Pennsylvania that I'm really concerned about so far as flooding all
of the green is a flood watch now we do have a couple of little red specks up in
here this is around Johnstown Pennsylvania you are under a flash flood
warning at this time of course this is a heat advisory all the way down from
Georgia up to my neck of the woods in North Carolina down in Texas the darker
green is a flood watch and the lighter green is a flood advisory same goes up
here in portions of Iowa over into portions of Nebraska and also we have a
little bit of the areas of southwestern Minnesota and southeastern South Dakota
it continues western South Dakota and North Eastern Wyoming this is flood
watches and advisories and we have an advisory up in central Montana around
the Great Falls area heat heat hot-hot-hot where you see the pale this
is just a special weather statement for hazardous weather that could happen
where you see this extreme heat warnings the darker it gets excessive
extreme heat now on to the tornado watch areas for the remainder of this
afternoon up until about 7:00 tonight here we go this is the tornado watch
counties in Iowa it is an effect until 7:00 p.m. central Daylight Time for all
of these counties a tornado watch all of these counties until 7:00 p.m. central
Daylight Time this evening you can see it's a great portion of the Iowa
counties don't take this too lightly four tornadoes have already been
reported one I know was on the ground please be aware if you live in any of
these counties in Iowa more tornado watch once again is in effect until 7:00
p.m. for everyone in these counties also you have some severe thunderstorm
warnings going on these storms are capable of producing 40
50 60 mile-per-hour winds down draft winds hail large hail and extremely
heavy rain and they're also capable of producing tornadoes all sides so please
be careful if you're in this area if you have family or friends in any of these
areas please let them know this and be aware of what's going on around them in
case something does pop up that is very very fast and dangerous coming their way

9 - Abdullah and Mulan What first started out as a simple job for
Abdulla Sholeh, turned into an amazing friendship between him and one of the best predators
on Earth.
Years ago, Abdullah became a "nanny" for a 3-month-old tiger cub.
Let's just say Abdullah had no clue that their relationship would become what it is.
He and Mulan Jamillah, a Bengal tigress, eventually became so close that even after she became
fully grown, they would spend almost every minute of the day together!
They'd sometimes even sleep in the same enclosure!
Now that……….just sounds ridiculous and amazing at the same time!
Mulan's previous owner was unable to take care of her, but Abdullah was more than happy
to dedicate most of his time to his new friend.
What started out as a temporary job eventually turned into a full-time friendship.
The pair are so inseparable, Mulan supposedly gets anxious whenever Abullah isn't around.
They play and eat together, but despite the affection that Mulan shows him on a daily
basis, he says that he's always aware of the risks he takes every time he gets close
to the roughly 400-pound Bengal tigress.

Most American cats spend their days in the lap of human luxury.
This is a good thing!
The average lifespan of an indoor-only cat is around 17 years, while the average lifespan
of cats that are allowed to roam freely outside?
It's only…….three to five.
Yeah that's a big difference.
However, this doesn't mean that cats shouldn't be outside.
A properly trained and supervised cat can go just about anywhere.
Just ask Craig and Millie.
Craig Armstrong and Millie are avid desert explorers in Utah.
Millie is quite adventurous, but Craig is always there to keep her safe.
Ever since they met at the adoption center and Millie climbed right up Craig's shoulders,
he knew they'd be a great team.
Apparently, Millie loves to climb and explore, just like Craig.
However, Millie required a little practice and training to get ready for her new life
of mountain climbing.
Sometimes she leads the way, sometimes she's just following along.
Armstrong refers to their trips as "catting" instead of hiking or climbing.
His hiking experience is often dictated by where Millie wants to go.
It's given Craig a new appreciation for the same old trails because he has a climbing
partner who apparently never complains, no matter how hard it gets!
7 - Christopher, Jonathan, and Marilyne Christopher the Pig is a world traveller,
and not only that, he also has a social media following!
Christopher the pig has had some big adventures since he was adopted by Marilyne and Jonathan
Duguay.
Since the couple adopted Christopher, he's become very much part of the family.
Christopher has amassed a substantial social media presence — he has over 50 thousand
followers on Instagram as well as a growing Facebook page and YouTube channel.
Marilyne takes the lead editing videos and posting on Christopher's feed.
Apparently she's the reason Christopher came into their lives in the first place.
Christopher was a gift for Marilyne from her husband because, well…...she just wanted
to have a pet pig!
The main thing that drives social media users to Christopher's pages are the photos and
videos depicting his passion for travel.
Christopher has been all over the place, as he's been in cities such as New York City
and Las Vegas.
He's also gone to Canada, such as Edmonton and Montreal!
And oh yeah, he's also been to France, Italy, Spain and Switzerland!
Really?
You'd think that it's hard to bring a pig along to travel.
However, the couple says that it actually hasn't been that hard getting Christopher
from place to place.
Why?
Because he's registered as a service animal!
6 - Robert and Bella In May of 2015, a chocolate lab named Bella
was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, which is a type of bone cancer.
They told her owner Robert Kugler he had two options.
Either Bella's front leg is amputated or she should be put down because she was in
severe pain.
Of course, he decided to go with the first option.
However, more bad news came.
The vets gave Bella three to six months more to live, because the cancer had spread to
her lungs!
Because of this news, Kugler decided to take his furry best friend on a final farewell
adventure.
They traveled to a bunch of places across the country.
They visited Chicago, hit up the Northeastern United States, then headed to Florida.
When they got back home to Nebraska, it just didn't seem complete to them.
So when the opportunity came up, they hit the road again.
Robert and Bella decided to continue their travels to places such as Southern Missouri,
Kentucky, and Nashville.
Bella and Kugler have either camped out in his Toyota 4Runner or couchsurfed with his
friends along the way.
And even though the vets gave Bella just three to six months to live, she beat the odds and
survived much longer than that – they were able to travel for over 14 months!
5 - Loki and Kelly Imagine a dog that's half your size, and
is part wolf!
That's exactly what Loki the Wolfdog is.
A big dog with genes from both a dog and a wolf.
Loki is technically a husky/arctic wolf/malamute mix that's 70 lbs and 30 inches tall at
his shoulder!
Let's just say wolfdogs definitely can look mean after the sun sets.
Kelly Lund, his owner, brought Loki home in a blizzard.
That pretty much sounds like the only way to pick up a wolfdog!
Loki and Kelly grew close, and they started backcountry snowboarding together.
By the time Loki turned three years old, he had seen most of the western US.
In terms of physical and emotional characteristics, Loki is certainly unique.
He has incredible endurance as his long legs let him move through the snow quite faster
than many other dogs, which we can see in Loki's videos.
Kelly had never taken photography seriously before their adventures started, but that
quickly changed when he adopted Loki.
Kelly hopes he and Loki can inspire other people to get out and explore the world with
their pets.
His other reason for documenting their adventures on social media is to increase awareness and
support for wolfdogs and people who need animals.
With 1.7 million followers on Instagram, Loki certainly is helping Kelly with his goal!
4 - Suki, Marti, and Ken If you're into Bengal cats, then Suki is
right up your alley!
Suki is a Bengal cat from Canada who isn't afraid of going on adventures with Marti and
Ken, her owners.
They do a lot of hiking and camping, as Marti is a travel and landscape photographer.
Suki, with her typical Bengal markings, is clearly a cat who goes great with a picturesque
background.
She's always looking calm and poised, no matter what the background is.
Her owners worked hard on leash training Suki, but their hard work paid off as Suki goes
on hikes with them through British Columbia and Alberta.
She goes camping, canoeing, hiking…..she essentially does just about everything that
a dog can do!
However, apparently Suki loves people, so she's always saying hello to anyone she
comes across someone on the trail.
That means either Marti or Ken ends up carrying her on the pack, so that they can keep it
moving.
Hopefully Loki has learned some focus and discipline so their hikes go well!
3 - Mike and Cropper When Mike Trowler of Kent, England, first
met Cropper, this fox just had had a rough encounter with a dog and Cropper was on the
worse end.
Cropper had been rescued by The Fox Project in Tunbridge Wells, a town southeast of London.
Not only was he badly injured, he was also suffering from toxoplasmosis, a dangerous
parasitic infection.
He was in no shape to be returned to the wild.
There were only two choices: euthanize Cropper or find him a home.
That's where Mike came in.
Cropper was nursed back to health by Mike, and Cropper became a member of Mike's family.
Cropper would eat food from the dog dish just like Mike's dogs and he would also curl
up with the cats.
But mostly, he would spend time with Mike.
Because dogs and foxes are somewhat related, it should come as no surprise that living
like a dog was great for Cropper.
After 6 happy years, Cropper has since gone to fox heaven, but Mike continues to take
in orphaned fox cubs and raise them until they can be released back into the wild.
Even though Mike still takes in foxes, he does caution that rescuing foxes takes a great
deal of patience and understanding.
2 - Smoothie and Arvid You guys ever seen a cat with more striking
eyes?!
Meet Smoothie the Cat, also known as "the world's most photogenic cat."
This British Longhair lives in the Netherlands where she pals around with her pretty much
equally as adorable brother, Milkshake.
Milkshake is around 2 years old, and Smoothie is around 4 years old and she became famous
because she got reposted a lot whenever her owner Arvid posted her pictures on Instagram.
At one point, one of her pictures became a meme that appeared all over the Internet.
Her antics in pictures and videos have made her one of the most popular cats online, as
she now has over 1.4 million loyal Instagram followers!
In addition to becoming a meme, Smoothie has been featured in a bunch of publications such
as People Magazine, The Huffington Post, and many popular Dutch newspapers.
Of course, she also has her own line of merchandise with her likeness, and if that isn't impressive
enough, she also has her own app, which "gives fans exclusive access to all things Smoothie."
Talk about a cat living her best life!
1 - Simon and JJ Old dogs can learn new tricks, and let's
just say "aloof" cats can too!
While many people see cats as strictly lackadaisical indoor pets who never wander beyond the garden,
there are adventure cats across the globe that are helping to shed this image!
Take Simon for example.
This black cat belongs to JJ Yosh, an adventure filmmaker, travel vlogger and social media
influencer.
When Yosh adopted Simon as a kitten from his neighbor, he knew he wanted to make Simon
a part of his journeys.
He started training Simon from the day he got him.
He was a couple of weeks old when he first got him.
Simon was born in the mountains of Colorado, so hey, it's possible that both of these
factors played a role in Simon's adventurous side!
Apparently, Simon wakes up eager to explore outside, with his favorite places being the
hiking spots in his backyard of Boulder, Colorado.
Yosh says he and Simon love going to the nearby mountains that's filled with caves and rocks.
Along with these routine hiking trips, they also go on more intense adventures, such as
climbing in the snow or even kayaking!

Review of TP-Link Archer MR400 AC3150 4G router
Hello ! Today I review a 4G router
from TP-Link. Model is MR400.
This 4G router is made in China and succeeds MR200.
Let's unbox it !
First we get MR400 4G router. This router comes with
two 4G LTE antennas screwed to the back of the device
These 4G antennas are removable and freely adjustable.
The power supply delivers a voltage of 12V
for an amperage of 1.5A.
Ethernet cable : 47 inches length and category 5.
2 sim adapters : first one is nano SIM to standard SIM adapter
The second one is micro SIM to standard SIM adapter
Finally, there is a translated user manual in different languages.
Dimensions are : 7.95 inches long
5.55 inches wide
and 1.32 inches thick
On the back of the router there's an on/off button, 4 LAN ports
including 1 LAN/WAN. WAN port can be used to connect an Internet box.
there is also a WPS switch, a switch to enable
or disable WiFi and finally a sim card slot.
To explain the operation of this device, I use the nano SIM card
from my smartphone, I use the SIM adapter that is provided
I insert the SIM adapter on the back of the router
I turn on the 4G router
I wait for the router to be connected in 4G
and I can now browse the internet.
If necessary, I go to the router's administration interface
to unlock the SIM card by inserting the pin code. There is nothing more to do.
MR400 has the same design as MR200
(MR200 is on the left of the video) and only the TP-Link
logo has evolved. MR400 brings some technical
improvements over the MR200.
First of all, the WiFi transfer rate
is now 1350Mbps. Additional TDD-LTE 4G frequency bands are now supported.
For detailed technical specifications, I let you refer to the video.
MR400 basic features are available
from TP-Link Tether app (French support)
on Android and iOS. I start the app.
Please note that my smartphone is WiFi paired with MR400
(I use a Samsung Galaxy S8). The router is now detected by the smartphone.
I will then be able to access basic features. For example
to quickly share my WiFi key or to activate parental control.
Now let's discover MR400's Control panel
To configure the MR400 from a computer
first we must connect in WiFi on the router as you can see on the video. Then we start
the Internet browser. Now type : http://tplinkmodem.net
then you should access this identification page. First time
we must create a password. Once it's done, we log in.
We are now connected to the control panel. There are 3 different ways to configure the router :
easy configuration, basic and advanced mode. Depending on the
configuration mode chosen, this unlocks features
to configure the router.
To calculate the transfer rates obtained
in 4G mode with MR400, I moved the router on the balcony
because inside the home, there is no mobile network
then I launch a "Speedtest" (http://www.speedtest.net/fr)
I click on "GO" button
And here are the 4G transfer rates we get when
there's only a single lightbar on the router.

Speedtest is over. I get an average download speed of
18.80Mbps and an average upload speed
of 1.98Mbps. So these good results
allow to browse the Internet or download files without difficulties
and yet there's only a single 4G lightbar
on the MR400. For the positives
I appreciate 4G LTE and WiFi high transfer rates. It is a small
and lightweight router. 4G antennas are useful and
it's an easy to use 4G router. It can be configured
from a smartphone using "TP-Link Tether" app.
Advanced configuration from admin panel is powerful
We can send and receive sms from control panel
Heat dissipation is nice. I also appreciate that
TP-Link provides an adhesive tape with SIM adapters
Finally I appreciate the multilanguage
Quick Start Guide. For the negatives
administration control panel is in english only
Ethernet cable is too short and category 5 only.
Providing a carrying case would be
a good point. At the back of the router
a nano-sim slot would be great.
Finally there are password recognition bugs
in Tether app when using special characters
([, (, -, _, ~, etc.) in the password used.

to offer your patients.
Many patients want to have noninvasive procedures or procedures with very little downtime.
Many of those procedures work by a process called collagen induction therapy.
By causing some sort of minor injury, you induce new collagen to be formed, which can
result in skin tightening and relief of wrinkles and other things.
So patients really like that because there is no down time.
Basically, with those kinds of therapies, they can essentially go back to work the same
day.

The Importance of Adaptability - Duration: 2:13.
If I have to pick one, to say to someone, this is what you need to do to be
successful throughout your career, adaptability is it. And the reason is, the
world today is not the world we're going to be living in five years from now, or
ten years from now, or 15 years from now, and my observation, in general, is that
people that can adapt do very well throughout their careers. And, here's the
challenge, people often say, and I think this is totally false, that young people are
much more adaptable than old people. Given that I am one of the old people, I don't
buy that, alright. But I think what it is is people that are right at a school
seem like they're more adaptable because they don't know anything else, so of
course they're going to do the new technology or the new organizational
trick or the new whatever the new thing might be; they don't know any different.
But some of those people are very adaptable and some are not, and you don't
really know that for 10 or 15 years after they've been in the workforce and
things begin to change and then the people that are not very good at adapting
struggle; and that's when you find out who wasn't really adaptable. But the
reality, again, is the world changes, things are different, the workplace is
different than what it was when I graduated but it's also different than it
was five years ago, it's different than it was 10 years ago.
Work is getting automated, which is bringing up new opportunities for
different kinds of work but you've got to be open to those ideas. And sometimes
it has nothing to do with technology. For example, in news, the way we write stories
today based on users' tastes and needs is very different than the way we wrote
stories five years ago or ten years ago. People are looking, our customers are
looking for shorter pieces that get right to the point, as opposed to the
long form stories; that's a change. You have to be willing to roll with that
change. So, adaptability is by far the most important skill, aspect, whatever you
want to call it, that people need have throughout their lives.

Some people have known coronary artery disease.
Sometimes people see me just to help treat their blood pressure when they have high blood
pressure, or they have high cholesterol, or they have a family history of heart disease
and they're worried and they want to take measures to try to prevent problems for themselves.
There's a lot written in the medical literature, and there are guidelines from the American
Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology that help us know what best
practices are for treating a particular disease process is.
But those things always have to be filtered with the understanding that the patient is
the one that we're treating.
We have to factor in their particular preferences, and concerns, and their unique needs.
Much of the advances in cardiology relate to the understanding of how lifestyle modification
and medication can stabilize disease and prevent people from needing to get into my cath lab.
And I'm certainly very happy to help people with those approaches.
I also am happy to help people when they do need to get into the cardiac cath lab and
make sure they're getting the right procedure for the right reasons.

Cancer and job losses top list of reasons for South Africans' insurance claims.
Liberty's claim statistics for 2017 break down the top causes for claims for all nine provinces.

Cancer remains the top reason for life insurance claims in South Africa, and retrenchments are taking their toll among young achievers, says Liberty, the countrys largest provider of life cover and lifestyle protection between 2002 and 2017.
Every year, the group releases statistics on what it has paid out to policyholders.
This helps financial advisers and clients plan for the future and manage lifes uncertainties.
Liberty paid a total of R4.46-billion in valid claims last year.
Most of these payments (R3.24-billion) were for Life Protection following the death of a client.
It paid R691-million in respect of Lifestyle Protection to help claimants adjust after critical illness diagnoses, treatments or other impairments that prevented them from earning their normal income.
Liberty also paid a little more than R525-million for loss-of-income protection, including lump-sum payments (R375-million) and monthly income payments (R151-million).
Cancer remains the leading cause for claims, at 24.3%, followed by cardiac and cardiovascular conditions at 19.8% of all claims, says Henk Meintjes, head of risk product development at Liberty.
Cancer affected all age groups, making up 16% of all claims for young achievers (or millennials), 21% for young parents, 26% for established providers and 25% for empty-nesters.
The top three cancers were female breast cancer, prostate cancer and colon cancer.
Liberty medical officer Dr Thabani Nkwanyana says: Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death in our society.
This is reflected in our claim statistics and has been a recurring trend for the past three years.
The good news, however, is that cancer treatment is widely available and effective, but works best if the cancer is detected earlier rather than later, so regular check-ups with a GP are highly recommended. Claims by lifestyle segments In this volatile market, it's no surprise that retrenchment was the most common cause of claims for young achievers, making up 17% of their claims.
Cardiovascular causes were the second-most common cause for claims in three segments, at 13% for young parents, 20% for established providers and 22% for empty-nesters.
Overall, cardiovascular causes were also responsible for the majority of claims paid in respect of men last year.
Strokes or central nervous system disorders also contributed significantly to total claims paid: 8% of young parents and 8% of established providers.
For empty-nesters, who are generally older, respiratory diseases and disorders were responsible for 7% of paid claims.
Liberty Lifestyle Protector Click here for more information Everybody is at risk A new inclusion in this year's statistics report is a breakdown of the five most frequently stated occupations of claimants: 13% of claims came from business people, 10% from managers, 8% from directors, 3% from administrators and 3% from housewives.
This range of occupations shows everyone is at risk of untimely death, disability or critical illness.
The low proportion of claims attributed to housewives and other semi-professional or part-time roles may, however, also provide insight into the risk of underinsurance for these individuals.
Many working parents may benefit from group cover but have not effectively planned for the consequences of a severe injury or the passing of the stay-at-home parent.
In addition, Libertys claim statistics for 2017 break down the top claim causes for all nine provinces in the country.
At least 25% of claims from the Northern Cape came from farmers, and 80% of all claims in Limpopo were for life cover.
Gauteng recorded four times as many brain-cancer claims as KwaZulu-Natal, and more suicide claims than road-accident claims.
Non-payment of claims Liberty paid out all valid claims submitted.
In 2017, 8.6% of submitted claims were for conditions that did not meet claims requirements and 1.6% were declined due to non-disclosure.
As an organisation, Liberty has a duty to ensure its clients know what they are covered for and that the plans protect them and their families.
Liberty encourages clients to familiarise themselves with the claims criteria and to check in with their financial advisers regularly to make sure they have the correct cover in place.
Importantly, clients need to disclose and answer all questions asked in the application honestly and accurately, to ensure that the contract is, and remains, valid.
Sharing these insights is part of our efforts to educate South Africans on the importance of having the correct insurance cover.

The prosecution of the businessman accused of murdering Siam Lee is on shaky ground – with bungling by police and a private investigator highlighted by the magistrate who released him on bail.
Basing their case on "circumstantial" evidence also weighed heavily against the state's opposition to bail.
Magistrate Mahomed Motala granted the 30-year-old R40‚000 bail on Wednesday‚ bringing an end to his five-month bid for freedom.
He faces a raft of charges‚ including the kidnapping and murder of Lee‚ as well as the rape of another woman.
He cannot be named until he has tendered a plea in relation to the rape charge.
Delivering his ruling on Wednesday‚ Motala examined facets of the investigation into Lee's slaying‚ saying that the prosecution had placed heavy reliance on circumstantial evidence.
"The state's evidence is that [currently] the cause of death‚ the place of death and the date and time of death [of Lee] are unknown.
The state relies on circumstantial evidence that the deceased left with the applicant‚ two days later her body was found burnt on a farm in New Hanover and that the applicant's vehicle was tracked to that area‚" he said in his ruling‚ which lasted 45 minutes.

"A court cannot be seen to subvert its role and function at the alter of public opinion‚ or worse‚ become part of a lynch mob.
As a responsible member of the community and a parent myself‚ I share in the grief of all those who were near and dear to the young Siam Lee and it has pained me to listen to details of her demise‚" he said.
