hello again and happy Father's Day from Fox News in Washington President Trump
is back from his summit with North Korea's Kim jong-un and is already
taking on his next big challenge the Department of Justice and Specter
general issued a report that is sharply critical of how the FBI conducted the
Clinton email investigation and the president says that undercuts Robert
mullahs probe of collusion with Russia and obstruction of justice joining me
now from South Carolina Republican congressman trey Gowdy chair of the
House Oversight Committee mr. chairman before we get to the IG report I want to
discuss how President Trump and his lead lawyer
Rudy Giuliani are using the IG report here's the president linking what the
Inspector General found in the Clinton investigation to the Muller
investigation of him I think that the report yesterday maybe more importantly
than anything it totally exonerates me there was no collusion
there was no obstruction mr. chairman does the IG report exonerate President
wrong well it certainly helps him Chris I mean keep in mind the same people the
same players that were involved in the in the Clinton Pro later moved to the
Russia probe John Brennan who said he should be in the dustbin of history Jim
Comey who said impeachment was too good of a remedy Loretta Lynch who wanted
Hillary Clinton to win and then we've got Peter struck and Lisa Paige the two
FBI employees Kristen this is what's most important to me
those two presumed and pronounced Hillary Clinton's innocence before her
investigation ended and they presumed and pronounced Donald Trump's guilt
before the investigation even began so when you have that pervasiveness of bias
yes it's going to help the person who is complaining about the investigation on
the other hand Robert Muller was not part of the Clinton investigation Peter
struck was fired by Muller as soon as he found out about those very biased and
damaging texts and of course we don't know what Muller has
in the last year in his investigation so again I have to ask has president from
been exonerated I clearly understand your point that there was bias in the
FBI but has he been exonerated on allegations of collusion and obstruction
well well it part of that depends upon what you view the Muller probe as now
you mentioned collusion the only person in the universe who claims to have
evidence of collusion is atom chef and unlike any other secret he's ever had
he's actually kept this one he's never told anyone what evidence he has so
there's no evidence of collusion obstruction of justice Chris
good luck having your star witness Big Jim Comey in any prosecution from
shoplifting to obstruction of justice good luck if that's your star witness
for me the Muller probe is about what Russia did in 2016 and who if anyone
they did it with so that's what I mean when I say Muller probe and I hope he
does write the definitive accounting of what Russia did but there's no evidence
Donald Trump did it with them and Jim Comey would be about the sorriest
witness that I can imagine the prosecutor could have I find this very
significant because you have not been in the tank for for President Trump on all
of this not now no I understand that I'm not saying you are now but I'm are you
saying this morning that Donald Trump is off the hook and the Muller
investigation well I don't know what Muller has I do know this that bias is
so pervasive and everyone who's ever stood in front of the jury and had to
explain it away will tell you it is the most miserable feeling of the war in the
world and I have never seen this level of bias so you have Peter struck who
can't think of a single American who can vote for Donald Trump and you got Peter
struck who says we'll stop it the campaign and the presidency will stop
the campaign and then if that doesn't work the day after the election he's
talking about impeachment so how would you like that to be your lead
investigator two weeks after you're assigned to look into what a foreign
country did to us the only thing he can think to talk about is an insurance
policy to keep Donald Trump from winning and then he says will
stop it I assumed the we is the FBI so how would you like if you're Bob Mahler
to present that case to a jury you are co-chairing a hearing on Tuesday where
the Inspector General Michael Horowitz who issued this damaging report will
appear what are the main questions you want to ask them whether a bunch is a
500-page report and the good news Chris is Michael Horowitz proved what we
wanted the FBI and the DOJ to do which is that you can have an investigation
that is fact centric and fair and even-handed there are a lot of questions
I have for him number one you know the Hillary Clinton failure to
prosecute was predicated upon two things number one that her emails were not
exposed to foreign actors there's some evidence that that's not true number two
if there was no evidence of intent well of course there's no evidence of intent
you didn't bother to ask her you went into the interview knowing that she was
not going to be charged so I think some members will ask about that a lot of
members are going to ask about the bias the same team that exonerated her
implicated him before the investigation began and I suspect some members will
ask about the coziness between the FBI and the media well the FBI is very
critical as you pointed out and we're going to get into it in more detail
about actions taken by Comey and struck and others here is his overall judgment
on the final conclusion of the Clinton investigation I want to put this up on
the screen this is from the IG we found no evidence that the conclusions by the
prosecutors were affected by bias or other improper considerations rather we
determine that they were based on the prosecutors assessment of the facts the
law and past Department practice and here is current FBI director Christopher
Rea this report did not find any evidence of political bias or improper
considerations actually impacting the investigation under review so when they
say the final judgments yes there may have been biased but that didn't affect
the final judgments are the Inspector General Michael
Horowitz and Christopher Rea the--it current FBI director are they wrong well
I'll say this why did Allah run a Lynch asked it to be called a matter and not
an investigation why was Cheryl Mills in the room when the target was being
interviewed why did you write an exoneration memo six weeks before she
was interviewed why did you start planning your press conference two
months before the investigation was over here's where I depart from from from
Chris ray I don't think it's my job to prove the bias impacted the
investigation I think it's his job to prove that it did not here's what I know
they exonerated her before the interview they said she did nothing wrong before
they even bothered to talk to her and this same group said Donald Trump should
not be the president and or should be impeached before the investigation even
began if that is not textbook bias which is the prejudging of an outcome I mean
that's what bias is we are prejudging the outcome we were prejudging her
innocence before we talked to her were prejudging his guilt before we even
begin to look into the fact pattern that's bias and yes it impacted the
outcome she the most important element is intent that's what they all told us
she did not have the intent to commit a crime the best way to figure that out is
to talk to her but they went into the interview Chris saying the only thing
she'll be charged with is maybe lying to us if you're Donald Trump or if you're
any other defendant in the country how would you like that deal we're not going
to charge you with anything as long as you tell us the truth that is blanket
immunity and everyone in the country would like that as they go into an
interview with the FBI now a couple of top Republican leaders House Majority
Leader McCarthy Senate Majority and leader McConnell are saying given all of
this and given the fact that the that the mulher investigation has gone on for
more than a year it's time to wrap it up it clearly is putting a cloud over the
president do you agree with that I think it's putting more more than just a cloud
over the president I think it's putting the cloud over the entire country this
is a unique case Chris it is a counterintelligence investigation
become public most of them do not is a criminal investigation that has
political overtones most of them do not combine the two it is a public
counterintelligence investigation with political overtones this is not your
traditional investigation so I would encourage Bob Muller keep doing exactly
what rod Rosa Stein hired you to do but Mulder did not volunteer we're here
because rod Rhodes assigned decided we needed special counsel do the very best
you can with the evidence and the witnesses you have but understand that
this is being used by political enemies to hurt Donald Trump Adam Schiff wants
to be the chairperson of the House Intelligence Committee Nancy Pelosi
wants to be the Speaker of the House they won't Bob Muller to do with Peter
struck and Hillary Clinton could not do which is beat Donald Trump so just be
aware that you're being used would be my advice to Bob Muller I've got about
three minutes left I want to get I'm gonna ask you for four quick answers
should based on what you've you knew before and what you know now from the IG
report should Hillary Clinton have been charged with a crime I need to interview
her effectively I need to ask her those questions on intent we know she lied we
know she's concealed evidence we know they destroyed F and it's those are all
circumstantial markers of intent so I would need to interview her without
going into it knowing I was gonna clear her like the FBI did should Comey and
Peter struck be called to testify before Congress yes on what issues
well Peter struck you name it the highest level of bias I've ever
witnessed in any law enforcement officer and Comey and the words of my Grandmamma
has some explaining to do he's having a hard time getting his stories to match
up Horowitz was very critical of him and and deservedly so finally where our
House Republicans in your your demand you're called for the Department of
Justice to share more documents especially on this question of the use
by the FBI of a until informant to penetrate the Trump
campaign and also do you believe as some of your colleagues have suggested that
Deputy Attorney General Rosen Stein threatened the house and threatened
staffers for demanding those documents well I wasn't in the room for that
January meeting I've been in the room with some other meetings where tensions
ran really high we had a meeting Friday night under the heading of minor
miracles you had members of the House working on a Friday night Paul Ryan led
this meeting yeah Devin noonas Bob Goodlatte myself and everyone you can
think of from the FBI and the DOJ and we went item by item on both of those
outstanding subpoenas we either have compliance we have partial compliance or
we have non-compliance and Paul made it very clear there's going to be action on
the floor of the house this week if the FBI and DOJ do not comply with our
subpoena requests so rod Rosenstein Chris Wright you were in the meeting you
understood him just as clearly as I did we're going to get compliance or the
House of Representatives is going to use its full arsenal of constitutional
weapons to gain compliance this is too important it was too important before
the IG report the IG report has even heightened the need for us to understand
what happened in 2016 so the new guys can either be part of the cleanup crew
or they can be part of the cover-up crew and I would encourage them to be part of
the cleanup and very briefly sir in the areas where you see
non-compliance and you might see action on the floor this week that's on what
area it would be FISA abuse it would be a little bit on the strop page text
we're a little miffed that we read that most damning text the same time you did
well we've been asking for it for a long time so Devon subpoena is is largely
most of the issues from with Devon subpoena and not chairman Goodlatte
and that's FISA abuse and it's what led up to the Russia probe and and Chris and
rod or there is no ambiguity the speaker of the house was really clear you're
going to comply or there's going to be floor action and I think they got the
message and floor action would be a full panoply
of constitutional weapons available to the people's house including contempt of
Congress that would be among them yes sir I don't want the drama
I want the documents and I think that Chris and rod got that message a
contempt of Congress just means we're gonna be talking about this six years
from now I don't want that I want the documents I don't want the drama and I
don't want the floor fight but they need to know that we're willing to do it and
unless they're in a different meeting than the one I have never seen Paul Ryan
as animated as I saw him Friday night he is sick and tired of the delay and he
communicated that point very effectively chairman Gowdy thank you thanks for your
time always there to talk with you and I got to say you had a lot to say today
thank you sir happy Father's Day Thanks same to you sir

Kellogg's Honey Smacks Recalled After Salmonella Outbreaks in More Than 30 States - Duration: 1:15.
For Complex News, I'm Hanuman Welch
If you have a box of Honey Smacks, it's time to throw it away.
The CDC announced Kellogg's is voluntarily recalling the cereal after reports of 73 salmonella
outbreaks in 31 states.
This includes both the sizes of packages of the cereal with the "best if used by" date
from June 14, 2018 through June 14, 2019.
According to Kellogg's site, they "launched an investigation with the third-party manufacturer
who produces Honey Smacks immediately after being contacted by the Food & Drug Administration
and the Centers for Disease Control regarding reported illnesses."
At this point, Kellogg's says only Honey Smacks are affected by the recall.
Salmonella symptoms include diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and abdominal cramps which can happen
up to 12-72 hours after being exposed to the germ.
It can also produce serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail,
or elderly people and others with weakened immune symptoms.
The sickness can last from four to seven days and most people can recover without medical
treatment.
However, sometimes it can "result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing
more severe illnesses."
This is far from the first salmonella-related incident this year.
Over 200 million eggs were recalled as well.

Russian Lawmaker Warns Local Women Not to Have Sex with Foreigners During World Cup - Duration: 2:01.
For Complex News, I'm Hanuman Welch
The 2018 World Cup in Russia is underway and while most of us will be focused on cheering
for our favorite teams, local women are being advised to keep something else in mind: don't
have sex with foreigners.
This warning comes from Russian lawmaker Tamara Pletnyova, according to RadioFreeEurope/RadioLiberty.
Pletnyova's fear stems from a group of single mothers raising children conceived during
the 1980 Olympic Games held in Moscow during the era of the Soviet Union saying
these children suffer and have suffered, even since Soviet times, she said in comments published
by Govorit Moskva.
The World Cup will be a month-long extravaganza taking place in several cities.
FIFA has confirmed that 2.4 million tickets have already been sold, as people from all
over the world plan to attend the 64-match tournament.
Pletnyova concedes that if Russian women simply can't control themselves, they should at
least have sex with visitors of the same um... race.
"If it's another race, then it's even worse.
We should give birth to our own children.
I'm not a nationalist, but nonetheless.
I know that the children suffer as well, and then they are abandoned and stay here with
the mother."
She warns that even if these women plan on marrying their foreign baby daddy, their child
could end up stuck in another country with no means of getting back to Russia.
"Then they come to me at the committee and cry that the child was taken away, removed,
and so forth, I would like people to get married based on love in our country, regardless of
which ethnicity, [to] Russian citizens who would build a good family, live in harmony,
have children, and raise them."
Unsurprisingly this lawmaker has made similarly prudish comments before, once criticizing
the crop top of a local journalist.
"I would like to say that these girl journalists should look more decent, put clothes on themselves
when entering a state building, instead of having their belly buttons naked,"
And ya'll thought the US had the market corner on racists assholes. That's all for now, for

HERE ARE THE 41 HOUSE REPUBLICANS WHO DEFIED TRUMP TO VOTE AGAINST SECURING THE BORDER
Forty-one House Republicans defied Donald Trump to vote against a bill that would have
secured funding for the president's border wall, addressed DACA, included E-verify and
other conservative provisions.
Bizpac Review reported that the House voted on an amended version of GOP Reps. Bob Goodlatte
of Virginia and Michael McCaul of Texas that provided more border security funding, only
granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients a temporary protected three-year
legal status with no pathway for citizenship (which moderate Republicans are fervently
asking leadership to provide) and included other features, such as E-verify.
The bill was shot down in a 193-231 vote Thursday.
Here are the names of all the Republicans who voted against this bill:
Paul Gosar of Arizona Andy Biggs of Arizona
Jeff Denham of California David, Valadao of California
Steve Knight of California Dana Rohrabacher of California
Mike Coffman of Colorado Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida
Carlos Curbelo of Florida Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida
Drew Ferguson of Georgia Mike Simpson of Idaho
Peter Roksam of Illinois Steve King of Iowa
Thomas Massie of Kentucky Justin Amash of Michigan
Fred Upton of Michigan Erik Paulsen of Minnesota
Frank LoBiando of New Jersey Tom MacArthur of New Jersey
Chris Smith of New Jersey Leonard Lance of New Jersey

Ryan Costello of Pennsylvania Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania
Bill Shuster of Pennsylvania Kristi Noem of South Dakota
Louie Gohmert of Texas Will Hurd of Texas
Mia Love of Utah Barbara Comstock of Virginia
Dan Newhouse of Washington Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington
David Reichert of Washington
Some of the lawmakers who voted against the bill said they did so because leadership altered
the bill before the final vote, adding on amendments and provisions that they deem "amnesty."

Andrew McCabe Begs Congress Not To Send Him To Jail - Duration: 12:23.
Andrew McCabe Begs Congress Not To Send Him To Jail
Andrew McCabe has sent a letter to Congress pleading them not to prosecute him for deliberately
mishandling the Hillary Clinton email investigation.
In a last-ditch effort to avoid serving prison time, McCabe's attorney Michael Bromwich
sent a letter to Chairman Grassley requesting immunity from prosecution in exchange for
spilling the beans on the Obama administration and former FBI director James Comey.
Thegatewaypundit.com reports: Chuck Grassley requested Andrew McCabe testify next week
at a Congressional hearing on the FBI's and DOJ's (mis)handling of the Hillary Clinton
email investigation.
In a 3 page letter to Chairman Grassley, McCabe's attorney Michael Bromwich ironically complains
about leaks from the DOJ doing damage to his client.
On page 2 of Bromwich's letter, the lawyer argues destructive leaks about McCabe's
criminal referral by the IG have done damage to the former FBI Deputy Director.
Bromwich then states McCabe's legal team requested an investigation into the DOJ's
source of leaks.
Oh the irony.
Excerpt of page 2 Bromwich to Grassley:
He [McCabe] has a credible and compelling story to tell.
However, as the result of a stream of leaks from the Department of Justice, it is now
well-known that the OIG has made a criminal referral to the United States Attorney's
Office for the District of Columbia.
As you know, the grounds for such a referral is the very low standard of "reasonable
grounds to believe there has been a violation of Federal criminal law."
5 U.S.C.
App. 3 § 4(d).
Even so, and even though Mr. McCabe committed no crime, these leaks have forced us to acknowledge
the criminal referral.
And, unfortunately, the stream of leaks has continued: As recently as last Thursday, additional
leaks led to the reporting of specific investigative steps allegedly taken by the United States
Attorney's Office in response to the referral.
We are outraged by these leaks and last Friday requested an investigation by the Department
of Justice's Office of Professional Responsibility into the source(s) of the leaks.
On page 3, Bromwich requests the Senate Judiciary Committee grant McCabe immunity from prosecution
in exchange for his testimony because of his criminal referral.
(screenshot below)
If McCabe is not granted immunity, he will invoke his 5th Amendment rights, continued
Bromwich.
McCabe can invoke his 5th Amendment rights, however; this can prompt lawmakers to issue
him a subpoena and ultimately threaten contempt charges.
Chairman Grassley responded to Bromwich's letter stating he would consider granting
McCabe immunity:
I am willing to discuss with the Ranking Member your request that the Committee consider seeking
a court order compelling you to testify under a grant of immunity.
However, under 18 U.S. Code § 6005, seeking such an order requires a two-thirds vote of
the Committee, and even if that were to occur, the Justice Department would then have a formal
opportunity to delay any testimony and attempt to persuade the Committee not to proceed.
Before even beginning to consider whether to initiate that process, the Committee would
need to know a lot more about the anticipated scope, nature, and extent of your testimony.
The Committee could then informally consult with the Department to solicit its views before
deciding whether to proceed formally.
Grassley also wrote a letter to the FBI on Tuesday requesting Andrew McCabe be released
from a nondisclosure he signed that is blocking him from releasing emails and documents to
the Committee.
The Senate Judiciary hearing will now take place on Monday, June 11th; it will be live-streamed
for public viewing.
Sources are saying the IG report on the FBI's 7th floor under Comey's Directorship is
absolutely damning and "worse than expected."

FBI INFORMANT JUST TESTIFIED AND IMPLICATED HILLARY CLINTON – THIS IS BIG! - Duration: 12:07.
FBI INFORMANT JUST TESTIFIED AND IMPLICATED HILLARY
CLINTON – THIS IS BIG!
FBI informant William Campbell has allegedly testified that Russia routed millions of dollars
into the Clinton Foundation in a "Russian Uranium dominance strategy".
From Zerohedge:
-Undercover FBI informant William Campbell has given written testimony to Congressional
investigators after an "iron clad" gag order was lifted in October
-Campbell was a highly valued CIA and FBI asset deeply embedded in the Russian nuclear
industry while Robert Mueller was the Director of the FBI
-Campbell was required by the Russians, under threat, to launder large sums of money – which
allowed the FBI to uncover a massive Russian "nuclear money laundering apparatus"
-He collected over 5,000 documents and briefs over a six year period, some of which detail
efforts by Moscow to route money to the Clinton Foundation
-Campbell claims to have video evidence of bribe money related to the Uranium One deal
being stuffed into suitcases.
-The Obama FBI knew about the bribery scheme, yet the administration still approved the
Uranium One deal.
-To thank him for his service, Campbell was paid $51,000 by FBI officials at a 2016 celebration
dinner in Chrystal City -When it emerged that Campbell had evidence
against the Clinton Foundation, a Yahoo News article by Michael Isikoff (of FISA warrant
application fame) slammed Campbell as a "disaster" potential witness
An undercover FBI informant embedded in the Russian nuclear industry who was made to sign
an "illegal NDA" by former Attorney General Loretta Lynch has finally given his testimony
to three Congressional committees.
William D. Campbell became an FBI counterintelligence asset after spending several years as a CIA
operative who developed working relationships in the nuclear industry in Kazakhstan and
Russia.
"For several years my relationship with the CIA consisted of being debriefed after
foreign travel," Campbell noted in his testimony, which was obtained by this reporter.
"Gradually, the relationship evolved into the CIA tasking me to travel to specific countries
to obtain specific information.
In the 1990's I developed a working relationship with Kazakhstan and Russia in their nuclear
energy industries.
When I told the CIA of this development, I was turned over to FBI counterintelligence
agents."
–saracarter.com
The FBI embedded Campbell in the Russian nuclear industry for six years, where he gathered
extensive evidence of two separate but related "pay for play" schemes related to the
United States uranium industry:
First, Campbell discovered that Moscow had compromised an American uranium trucking firm,
Transport Logistics International (TLI) in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices
Act – which bribed a Russian nuclear official in exchange for a contract transport Russian-mined
U.S. uranium, including "yellowcake" uranium secured in the Uranium One deal.
Second, Campbell says that Russian nuclear officials told him of a scheme to route millions
of dollars to the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) through lobbying firm ARPCO, which was
expected to funnel a portion of its annual $3 million lobbying
fee
to
the charity.

Lake District, England - Duration: 25:32.
England's Lake District is one of the prettiest parts of the country, as we'll show you in
our driving tour that's going to be visiting most of the lakes of this wonderful area in
the northwest of England, sharing with you some astonishingly pretty views.
We'll also visit some of the small towns that dot this landscape and we will take you on
a boat ride from one end of Ullswater to the other, it's the second largest Lake in the
Lake District, although it's only 9 miles long, so you'll find that the Lake District
is relatively compact in size.
It's about 30 miles wide and about 40 miles from north to south, all included in the National
Park that was created in 1951.
There are no admission fees to the park, without any restriction on the movement of people
into and around the district.
The park was created to protect the environment from excessive commercial or industrial exploitation,
preserving that which the visitors come to see, and they have done a very good job keeping
the landscape clean and green while still allowing a lot of private property ownership
in the park and several hundred farmers, mostly raising sheep.
Later on I'll tell you how Peter Rabbit helped create the National Park.
Tourism is the main source of income with 16,000 workers taking care of 16 million annual
visitors.
While they do have the country's biggest lake, Windermere, the lakes are really not all that
huge, which makes them more accessible.
Especially when guided by a tour company like Mountain Goat in their minibus that will take
you to all of the main sights without any effort on your part.
We're going to show you a one-day trip summarized in this movie in which we see 10 of the major
lakes.
While it's called the Lake District for a good reason – that's the main attraction
– there are many other sites to see, like the old stone bridge, the beautiful countryside
we're driving past, the mountain streams and lakes of course.
We'll also drop in on market day at the main town of Keswick right in the heart of the
district.
We'll take you to the oldest known historic site, the megalithic circle of rocks at Castlerrig
built 5000 years ago.
Here are the main lakes and places that we'll be visiting, starting right now in the capable
hands of our driver-guide Kevin from Mountain Goat tours.
We'll be doing a tour today, a nice slow drive through the central lakes, down past
the shores of Windermere.
That'll take us down some nice little hamlets and villages.
First of all, having a look at Windermere, the largest Lake in England.
We'll be stopping and taking you out of the van frequently during the day so we can get
some beautiful vistas and get our photographs, with Windermere as the perfect backdrop.
We were quite lucky on this fine day in May to run into perfect weather: sunshine, blue
skies, and no wind at this early time of the day, with amazing reflections in the water
as we drive by.
Passing the Ambleside pier at Waterhead, which is a busy docking area on the north end of
Lake Windermere.
There's all sorts of pleasure boats there's a marina.
Here you can get the lake cruise ship that will take you back down to Bowness-on-Windermere
as we show you in a different movie.
Or you could even rent a canoe and go paddling around on your own.
There are some ruins of an ancient Roman barracks in the adjacent field, but we're not stopping,
we' re continuing on heading into Ambleside town for a quick drive through.
Its population of a few thousand makes it one of the main towns of the Lake District,
with many shops, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, pubs and various hiking trails around it,
making this a pretty good home base for your visit to the lakes if you wish.
Ambleside is a deservedly favored center for tourists of every kind, with its natural beauty
and convenient situation, combined with its good road network, rendering at one of the
most popular spots in the Lake District.
Its smallest residence is this historic Millhouse, at one time occupied by a large family.
Numerous excursions can be made from Ambleside, such as to the Rothay Valley on the border
of town, which is well-wooded and bordered by several streams.
Or you could walk up Wansfell Pike, about 1700 feet high, that can be seen in a couple
of hours.
Within a few minutes of leaving the town of Ambleside we' re right away out in the country.
It's typical of the rural scenery that we will be enjoying for most of the day, green
rolling hills, stone walls and sheep.
Continuing along to Rydalwater.
This is one of the smallest lakes in the National Park, just three quarters of a mile long and
quarter-mile wide and it is the shallowest at 65 feet deep, but it is so beautiful that
the poet Wordsworth lived at or near this lake for most of his time in the area.
I'll say more about Wordsworth when we get to the next village, Grasmere, where he also
lived.
There is a footpath that goes all the way around the lake and you can also hike in the
nearby hills.
The name Rydal comes from the ryegrass that grew around it.
Continuing on to the next lake, Grasmere, which is right next door, as we look down
on it from the road up above, heading on our way to the town of Grasmere.
The lake is so sheltered and peaceful and serene, that just looking at it gives you
a feeling of tranquility.
If you're keeping track, that's three lakes we've seen already with many more to come.
Yet the scenic beauty of this drive is not just about the lakes.
It's this rolling hillside, the beautiful mountains, the endless stone walls.
They estimate there are about 7000 miles of stone walls in the Lake District, first built
they believed by Viking settlers, and then maintained ever since for the past thousand
years.
Many of the houses are made of stone, some of them using a drywall technique where there's
hardly any mortar holding the stones together.
We next arrive in the small village of Grasmere, one of the most popular places in the Lake
District, notably because of its association with William Wordsworth who lived here in
Dove Cottage, and is buried here in the church cemetery along with his wife and his children
and other acquaintances.
Wordsworth was born on the outskirts of the Lake District and lived here for 60 of his
80 long years amid the lakes and mountains, becoming a Poet Laureate of the natural landscape.
Born in 1770, he started school here then went south to Cambridge for college, graduated,
returned to the Lake District and made it his home.
His nine years at Dove Cottage living with his wife and children and sister were among
the most productive of his career.
He called Grasmere "the loveliest spot that man hath ever found."
Grasmere is a charming little village, something right out of a picture postcard with its old
stone buildings, quaint little shops, inns that go back to the year 1769.
There's pubs, there's restaurants and there are quite a few vacation rentals available
here, in fact, that's become an issue.
It's so desirable for travelers that locals are feeling the pinch as their housing supply
erodes away and gets converted to vacation rentals.
It's ironic that Wordsworth was an environmentalist who tried to stop any mass invasion of tourism,
even back then in the 18th century, and yet he wrote poetry that made the area famous
and then he wrote a guidebook that invited people to come in and go on hikes.
So he bears some responsibility, or blame, or credit as you will, for the growing popularity
of tourism in the Lake District.
If you don't want to spend your time in Grasmere's gift shops or drinking in a pub, there is
a nice little stream walk right in the village itself, illustrating how easy it is to get
close to nature when you're here in the Lake District.
And all around Grasmere there are many hiking trails for the serious exploration of the
outdoors.
A major award was bestowed on the Lake District in 2017 by UNESCO when they designated it
as a World Heritage Site and recognized its outstanding significance as a Cultural Landscape.
The award was based on several factors including: the beautiful topography with its valleys
and mountains and streams and lakes; the sheep farming which has created a landscape of enclosed
fields and farms; and also because of the very strong environmental protections that
have been in place for 100 years, which led to the birth of the conservation movement
in Britain.
Our next lake was the scene of some of those conservation battles because Thirlmere was
a natural lake that was converted into an artificial reservoir when it was dammed up
to supply drinking water to the nearby city of Manchester back in 1894, and there was
a lot of controversy about it at the time, and it still supplies drinking water to the
surrounding communities.
It worked out very nicely because the lake itself looks like a natural lake, just as
beautiful as it ever was.
We're very much in the center of the Lake District now heading on to two of the most
beautiful lakes, Derwentwater and Ullswater, where we will take you on that boat ride.
Often when driving from one lake to the next, you are heading up out of one valley, over
a ridge, and down into the next valley.
So the scenery gets quite rugged and grand as you get higher on the hills.
Our driver has brought us up a steep little side road to a very special place where we
can get one of the best views in the Lake District, looking at Derwentwater.
The big island in the middle with the house on, that's Derwent Island, that was built
by and industrialist called Joseph Pocklington, a Yorkshire man who built several houses here.
Derwentwater, at 1.2 miles wide, is the broadest of the lakes, giving it more of an oval shape
than the other lakes, but it's a highly irregular oval, broken by many promontory and bays,
and on its surface there are four charmingly-wooded little islands.
Here's our lookout point.
It sits in a basin, surrounded by a variety of hills, which impressed Wordsworth who said
that Derwent is distinguished from all the other lakes by the fantastic mountains around
it, of Borrowdale to the south, the solitary majesty of Skiddaw to the north, the bold
steeps of Wallowcrag and Lodore to the East and to the west, the clustering mountains
of Newlands.
Just below that lookout point, you've also got to stop at Ashness Bridge, it is probably
the most photographed bridge in the Lake District.
Made from traditional old-fashioned stone construction, it's been standing for hundreds
of years.
They suspect it was built originally in a smaller version for the packhorses going through
the area.
But it's so popular now, everybody knows about Ashness Bridge and has to stop here, that
it can be pretty hard to get a photograph of just the bridge with maybe a few people
in there, not a crowd or a car, but just be patient, get the right angle and you'll come
home with a fine shot.
We get a different view of Durwentwater now as we're driving alongside it.
You can also take a boat ride on this lake, which we have shown you in a different movie.
For now we' re driving by heading south and then driving up another tall ridge over
Honister Pass, one of the highest in the lakes area, and also with a road that's one of the
steepest.
It's a nice warm sunny day here in the month of May, but this area can have some ferocious
storms, especially in the wintertime, and this pass actually holds the rainfall record
of Great Britain for total rain in 24 hour, 14 inches.
This mountain stream is heading downhill, where it will be feeding into our next lake,
Buttermere, another one of the gorgeous watery landscapes.
On the map you can see the routing we're taking from Derwentwater, going up over the
ridge through Honister Pass and down along Buttermere, and then we'll go up another ridge
through Newlands Valley heading back up north to the town of Keswick.
Buttermere is a small lake, some 2000 meters by 400 meters, but it's a place of great scenic
value situated towards the head of the valley of the River Cocker.
There is a pleasant footpath around the lake, which is about 4 1/2 miles long.
At one point it takes you through a short rock tunnel.
The name Buttermere is perhaps derived from "a lake by the dairy pasture" because
of the fertile alluvial soil at both ends of the lake that supported dairy farming.
Another connected lake just beyond his Crummock Water.
Climbing up through Buttermere Valley, we reach a waterfall called Moss Force, one of
the park's tallest at a hundred meters high, so naturally, we've got a get out and take
some pictures.
Described as "fearfully savage" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, another one of the great
literary figures who lived in the lakes area.
The upper valleys tend to be quite dry despite occasional heavy rains, but as you get lower
the fields turn lush green all watered by natural rainfall, primarily areas of dairy
and sheep farming.
The bright yellow flowers that we see almost everywhere along these roads and scattered
in the fields look very pretty but actually it's a noxious weed called gorse.
Arriving in the town of Keswick, we will be taking a lunch break here and lucky for us
it's market day.
Every Thursday and Saturday it looks just like this, very busy, lots of colorful market
stalls selling food and clothing, handbags, dog leashes.
Lots of dogs in this town.
But for now in the movie we're just stopping briefly.
We have a lot more of Keswick we will show you in our movie about the towns of the Lake
District, but this movie is more about the lakes and countryside and some historic sites,
such as Castlerrig Stone Circle.
You're familiar of course with Stonehenge, a much larger stone circle, and much more
famous, but Castlerrig is actually older.
In fact, it's believed this may be the oldest known stone circle in the British Isles, dates
back about 5000 years.
And yes, as you might suspect, certain rocks line up with the summer and winter solstice.
So it was probably some kind of calendar in stone, but it was believed to be so special
that it was a multipurpose kind of place.
Perhaps sometimes a gathering spot for the leaders, also it may have been some sort of
a marketplace because this area was famous in the Stone Age for making excellent stone
axes that were traded all over England, and there have been traces of the axes found here
in archaeological studies.
It's nice that you can get right up close to the stones.
You can even touch them, it's okay, unlike Stonehenge, which is highly protected as we've
shown you in our movie about Stonehenge.
Look for it in our collection.
This afternoon is going to offer us yet more glorious scenery, following up on the beautiful
morning and lunch at Keswick.
Departing Castlerrig now, as you see on the map, and we are heading down to a big lake
called Ullswater where we' re going to enjoy a boat ride from one end of the lake to the
other.
It can happen that you grow tired of beautiful scenery if you're out all day and it keeps
going by, more and more hills and sheep and stonewalls and farms, but in this case it
just seems to keep getting better, and maybe the best is yet to come.
Driving downhill again and curving around roads with sweeping vistas that unfold mysteriously
and majestically, coming upon one of the great sites of the day.
The view looking down at Ullswater.
It's so convenient to be in the hands of an experienced driver-guide who knows the most
scenic routes, and has the timing down perfect so that we arrived at the boat dock just in
time to get out of our minibus and stroll over to the dock, and casually board the boat.
Hemmed in between two great mountain ranges on the east and west, side Ullswater is second
largest of all the lakes, 9 mile long and 3/4 mile wide, with a maximum depth of about
200 feet.
It's similar in shape to Windermere – long, narrow and winding, and comparatively level
at one end and mountainous at the other, but it makes more of a sharp bend than Windermere,
which divides it into three different sections.
There are several small communities along the shore.
About midway the boat makes a stop at the pier at Howtown.
There are some hikers who walk part way around the lake and others just join in at this point.
There's a few stops along the route, makes it convenient if you want to get out and take
a walk and wait for the next boat coming by.
It's operated by Ullswater Steamers, which has been running boats on the lake for visitors
for 150 years.
Many visitors find that Ullswater is the most beautiful of all the lakes because of its
particular shape and being surrounded by mountains, the way it is, with a walking path around
most of it, and this excellent boat service, but it's tough to pick any one lake as the
best, as you've seen, they're all quite beautiful in their own right.
The complete ride takes just less than one hour, and the time goes quickly, especially
with that bar and café service down below and the different seats that you can pick
indoors and out, pet the dogs, take a walk around the ship, enjoy the views and before
you know it you've arrived at Glenridding, the end of the voyage.
You can see the shore of the lake is a perfectly idyllic spot to linger and take a little stroll.
Maybe just sit on a bench and enjoy the view.
Our journey is nearly done, but we have one more lake and we have another mountain pass
to drive over and some more historic sites to enjoy on our way back to Windermere.
Brotherswater is the smallest of the lakes and one of the least noticed because it's
overshadowed by all the other wonderful lakes with their hiking trails, boat rides and grand
vistas but it completes our list of 10 lakes that we saw on this one-day tour.
We've got one more mountain to climb or at least a mountain pass to drive through.
That's Kirkstone Pass.
It's the highest pass in the Lake District at nearly 1500 feet.
And it does offer a grand view looking back at little Brotherswater which you can enjoy
from the outdoor tables of a pub.
It's the Kirkstone Pass Inn, the third-highest pub in England.
They offer a pint with a view and you can have a meal here or spend the night in one
of their rooms.
As we come down from Kirkstone Pass, heading south, we are getting lower elevations, getting
away from the dry, rocky hilltops and down to Troutbeck, looking down into the valley.
There is so small farm down there, a very important farm because it was owned by Beatrix
Potter the famous author of Peter Rabbit and many other stories.
She lived in the Lake District for most of her life and played an important role in creating
the Lake District National Park, because she made a lot of money with her many children's
books and invested that money in purchasing land, ultimately donating 4000 acres and 14
farms to the National Trust which has formed the basis of today's National Park.
Potter was also a champion breeder and farmer of Herdwick sheep and one of our first environmentalists.
That rascal bunny Peter Rabbit is her most famous creation, so perhaps we can thank him
for the park that we see today.
However, he was very naughty.
He ran into Mr. McGregor's garden, squeezed under the gate, ate some lettuces, French
beans, and then ate some radishes.
Chased away, he hides in a toolshed then makes his way across the garden and finds his way
home, joining Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail, the good little bunnies.
This was her first book and she had to self-print it because no other publisher would accept
it.
Then she added these famous illustrations and it was finally picked up and went on to
become one of the best-selling books in the world, with 45 million copies.
Beatrix Potter was a lady of many talents including business, where she invented the
concept of selling merchandise to go with her books, such as her very popular doll of
Peter Rabbit.
Her main home was at Hill Top Farm, which is open to the public as one of the most popular
park attractions.
All in all this is been a great day driving through the lakes with the help of our friends
at Mountain Goat.
They have a couple dozen excellent drivers and several different routes available through
the district.
The day can be summarized in a nutshell by looking at satellite enhanced map of the lakes.
And even more accurately this satellite photograph taken by NASA shows the earth toned hills
and mountains rising above the lower lying lands that are carpeted with green.
The geology of the area is quite fascinating and begins about 1/2 a billion years ago,
when this land was at the bottom of an ancient sea.
I'll explain more as we have some final views looking down on Lake Windermere.
400 million years ago, the land emerged from the sea upthrust as giant mountains that were
probably as high as the Himalayas today, but then erosion and tectonic shifts sent the
mountains back down to the bottom of the ocean.
And then they came up again about 300 million years ago, forming what are today considered
some of the oldest mountains in the world.
Not only did these mountains rise and fall, they also traveled north, probably beginning
south of the equator about 500 million years ago.
The landscape gained its present form of rounded mountains and hills about 2 million years
ago, when Pleistocene glaciers crept and covered most of mainland Britain.
The glaciers advanced and retreated many times, carving deep valleys that filled up with meltwater
and rain, thus creating the lakes that we can enjoy today.
Okay, I finished the geology lecture just in time to get us back to Bowness-on-Windermere,
the little village along the lake shore that's our home base for our visit to the lakes.
Be sure to look for our other movies in this series including one that explores the main
towns of the lake: Bowness, Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick, all part of our longer series
on England, Scotland and Ireland.

A little ditty about Ted and Dianne - Duration: 13:25.
Two months after Ted Cruz arrived in the Senate in 2013, he tried to quiz veteran Dianne Feinstein about her understanding of constitutional law during a tense Judiciary Committee hearing on an assault weapons ban she had authored
Pressed by the freshman whippersnapper about whether Congress could regulate books in the same way Feinstein wanted to regulate guns, the Stanford-educated California Democrat delivered a memorable zinger in response: "I am not a sixth-grader
" Five years later, the once-antagonistic Texan and his California colleague are talking daily
The topic now isn't guns but how to solve the crisis of migrant families separated on the border
And according to people who've witnessed their interactions, the two are getting along quite well
"I think he's very constructive," Feinstein beamed in an interview. "And I'm delighted
" "She certainly has expressed a strong and, I hope, sincere interest," Cruz replied
"So we're working together on legislation that both conferences can support." Sign up here for POLITICO Huddle A daily play-by-play of congressional news in your inbox

The two senators both represent border states but couldn't be further apart on immigration
Feinstein wants to pass a "clean" bill to enshrine protections for young immigrants threatened by deportation; Cruz warned that Republicans would lose Congress if they provided "amnesty" to those same people
But that might be the point: Cruz and Feinstein are trying to hash out a compromise that shields families from being separated and can win a strong majority in the Senate
If these two, of all people, can come to terms on a deal, there's no reason for anyone in the chamber to vote against it, their colleagues reason
"This is a problem that everyone, no matter what end of the political spectrum you are on, believes needs to be fixed
Ultimately, it makes strange bedfellows," said Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), who attended a bipartisan meeting on Wednesday that included Cruz and Feinstein
"Dianne's a longtime legislator. I think that Sen. Cruz is interested in getting this issue solved
" Feinstein and Cruz are ideological and stylistic opposites. The 47-year-old Cruz speaks in a lawyerly but mischievous manner and spent years enraging colleagues from both parties with antagonistic tactics
Since losing to Donald Trump in 2016, however, Cruz, has morphed into a more collaborative and agreeable figure
The 84-year-old Feinstein speaks formally though sometimes off the cuff. First elected to the Senate in 1992, the onetime San Francisco mayor has developed a reputation as a dealmaker in the chamber, despite her liberal leanings on gun control and immigration
Both senators are up for reelection this year. And though they're heavily favored to win, they've each seized a chance to work with the other on an important issue and burnish their bipartisan cred at the same time
Feinstein is being challenged from the left by state Senate President Kevin de Leon, and Cruz will face liberal Democratic Rep
Beto O'Rourke. "Ted Cruz running for reelection is a different person than Ted Cruz running for president
So far, I think it's a welcome change," said Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill
). White House The day Trump caved Whether they can strike a deal and avoid getting bogged down by the broader immigration debate that has bedeviled Congress for more than a decade is another matter
President Trump took some pressure off of Capitol Hill this week with his decision to stop the practice of separating families
But his executive order is expected to be challenged in court and potentially be thrown back to Congress to write a new law preventing the practice
Cruz and Feinstein each have introduced their own bill to address the family separation issue, and they take divergent approaches
Cruz's plan would allow asylum-seeking families to be detained together while expediting court hearings, a problem for Democrats; Feinstein's legislation would be a return to what the GOP calls a "catch-and-release" policy that conservatives loathe
A third bill, written by Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), is similar to Cruz's bill but codifies exceptions to a 1997 settlement that Democrats argue would lead to indefinite detention
During a meeting in Sen. Susan Collins' (R-Maine) office on Wednesday, senators in both parties discussed requiring the use of ankle bracelets to track families that have been caught crossing the border illegally
So far, Cruz and Feinstein don't seem to have agreed to much other than to keep meeting as the issue wends its way through the courts
Producing a bill remains a long shot. Still, Cruz says there is "considerable common" ground with Feinstein about limiting the scope of the immigration debate
And Feinstein says the two have "come a long ways" from their viral tit-for-tat five years ago
"There will always be issues on which the two parties have real and significant differences," Cruz said
But "everyone agrees the best place for children is with their parents. So there should be a bipartisan solution
" "Our job is to try to be constructive and solve problems. And . you generally work with people
who show interest," Feinstein said. "He may have some different views than I have
That works two ways. The key is to sit down and work it out, and that's what we're trying to do
" Still, there's a big trust gap between the two parties. Democrats worry that the GOP will put a Republican-only bill ending separations up for a vote and then blame Democrats for voting against it
GOP delays immigration vote in last-ditch push for passage And Republicans suspect Democrats are trying to use the family separation issue to galvanize their voters in the midterms, and that they want the policy to sink the president and the GOP
"Sen. Feinstein seems sincere. And I know Sen. Tillis and Sen. Cruz are sincere
And I think there is a deal to be made. Sen. Schumer doesn't seem to be encouraging them, he seems to be discouraging them," said Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas)
A source familiar with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's thinking said he is encouraging Feinstein and other Democrats to work with Republicans on legislation
But success is still a ways off. Most Democrats hope to force Trump to back away even more from his "zero tolerance" border policies
And Republicans aren't all united behind Cruz's plan, with some preferring Tillis' approach because it makes fewer sweeping changes to asylum laws
Moreover, Trump's moves are already reminiscent of the Senate's last immigration debacle
The president ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and punted it to Congress, which failed in February to approve protections for those young immigrants
If recent history is a guide, the same could happen on family separation, an issue that elicits similar public sympathy but could prove just as intractable
The collaboration of two lawmakers who are diametrically opposed on almost everything else, however, has provided some senators with a glimmer of hope
"Let's see what they can do," said Sen. Angus King (I-Maine.). "Think of voting for a Feinstein-Cruz bill!" Share on Facebook Share on Twitter

O awans jednak z Australią. Zajcew bohaterem Italii w meczu z Francuzami! - Duration: 5:41.
Przegrani par zagrają o trzecie, a wygrani o pierwsze miejsce
Włochy – Francja 3:0 (25:21, 25:22, 27:25) Włochy: Giannelli, Maruotti, Anzani 8, Zajcew 23, Randazzo 7, Mazzone 7 oraz Colaci (l), Lanza 9, Parodi, Nelli
Trener: Blengini. Francja: Toniutti, N'Gapeth 5, Chinenyeze 8, Boyer 11, Rossard 8, Le Roux 4 oraz Grebennikov (l), Brizard 1, Patry 1, Lyneel, K

Tom Arnold Crosses the Line, Vows to Publicly Harrass Barron and Melania - Duration: 3:13.
Tom Arnold has had an odd week, even by the standards of Tom Arnold.
Roseanne's former husband has been thrust back into the spotlight by the rather untoward
actions of his ex, and he seems determined to outdo her in the crazy department, all
without the dirty tint of racism.
First came Arnold's statement that he was going to be teaming up with Michael Cohen
to take down President Donald Trump after tweeting a picture with the Trump lawyer at
a New York hotel.
"This dude has all the tapes — this dude has everything," Arnold told NBC News, seeming
to imply Cohen would be appearing on his new show, "The Hunt for the Trump Tapes."
"I say to Michael, 'Guess what?
We're taking Trump down together, and he's so tired he's like, 'OK,' and his wife
is like, 'OK, f*** Trump.'"
Cohen's reaction was, um, slightly different.
So apparently that didn't work.
What to do next?
Quietly go back to producing this bizarre-sounding television show and forget his dalliance with
Cohen ever happened?
Or threaten to show up at Barron Trump's school to stalk him and Melania when the first
lady drops him off, all to protest Trump's immigration policy?
Given that this is Tom Arnold, I think you can guess which option he chose:
Responding to a tweet by Hollywood kinda-funnyman Judd Apatow in which the writer/director became
the latest star to glibly refer to separating children from parents who stand accused of
immigration crimes as somehow akin to Nazi Germany, Arnold said he would go to New York
City to stalk Barron and Melania.
"Way past sad & all in for these kids with @JuddApatow @FoxNews already hates me.
On a plane to NY.
Next is protesting Baron's private school as well as James & Lachlan Murdoch's kids.
This is what I can do to end the abuse of these children.
We're going to make you uncomfortable," Arnold wrote.
Stalking, by the way, is generally considered a crime and stalking members of the first
family is the kind of crime that can get you referred to the Secret Service — which,
the Media Resource Center reports, plenty of people did.
Did this prompt Arnold to stop?
Of course not.
"Dude, we can protest at The White House too," Arnold wrote.
"Also Melania takes him to school.
We want to have a word with her.
If we see babies tomorrow we're going to Kushners kids school.
Don Jr's kids are already working at Hooters so we'll protest there for lunch."
I'm not quite sure what Hooters Tom Arnold has been lunching at, but given that Don Jr.'s
oldest is 11, that's yet another reason to report him to the authorities.
In all fairness, these do not sound like the thoughts of someone in compos mentis, which
makes it hard for me to summon outrage so much as genuine concern.
Apparently, Mr. Arnold is surrounded by enablers who aren't willing to tell him that this
isn't, well, normal.
In fact, one might even call this behavior illegal, not to mention sadistic and sick.
I'm no expert, but I get the feeling Mr. Arnold could use an intervention of some sort.
He could be getting one from the Secret Service.

Folgen Sie News

Danniella Westbrook fears she has septicaemia as she is in 'unbearable pain' - Duration: 3:01.
Danniella Westbrook is worried she might have septicaemia again, after telling fans she's in 'unbearable pain'
The 44-year-old has spoken out about her health on social media, and admitted she might need to go into hospital
Taking to Twitter, the star opened up on her condition telling her followers that she 'could cry'
The actress wrote: 'Super poorly face has swollen up so so bad and pain unbearable waiting to hear if I need to go back in hospital and praying it's not septicaemia again … could cry [sic]' In 2000 the former soapie lost her septum due to excessive use of cocaine, and since then has been extremely open about sinking into a depression when she developed the bloodstream infection in the roof of her mouth
She has previously said that the bones in her face are 'rotting away' and claims that she can't bare to look at herself as her left side of her face is 'sunken' due to bones 'decaying'
In an interview with The Mirror she said: 'I just don't look like myself any more
Obviously I'm going to age a lot faster anyway because of the drugs but I didn't need this as well
Some days I wake up and I'm so swollen and other days it can look really sunken.' She then revealed that she has to drink 12 pints of milk a day in order to improve her bone density
Talking about future surgery, the former EastEnders star said: 'They need to take a piece of bone out of my skull and put a plate into my face but they've got nothing to stick the plate on at the minute because the bone's not strong enough
'They can start to rebuild it but I'll never look the same and it could make me look not very nice, even worse than I look now
'

Trump supporters, opponents clash on Yelp after restaurant kicks out White House press secretary - Duration: 6:29.
A fierce review feud erupted on the site after the owner of The Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia reportedly asked Ms Sanders to leave the restaurant because she worked for US President Donald Trump
Ms Sanders tweeted she had been asked to leave mid-meal on Friday night (local time) and did so "politely"
Soon after Ms Sanders' tweet, The Red Hen's page on Yelp was inundated with hundreds of mixed reviews — one-star reviews from Trump supporters, and five-star reviews from those who applauded the restaurant owner's bold move
"Thank you for having the courage of your convictions. Bravo The Red Hen for standing up to evil, brutality, lying, and corruption," one Yelp user wrote alongside her five-star review
"They don't serve food to fascists? I will be promoting this restaurant to anyone I know in the area
Well done, owners," another said. But supporters of Mr Trump returned serve, bombarding the restaurant with single star ratings
"Despicable and outlandish behaviour. The only thing served here … if they agree to serve you … is a heaping plate of arrogance and hypocrisy," one person wrote
Another said: "This place couldn't even cook an egg the right way. Maybe if the owner spent more time in the kitchen and less time watching CNN, she would understand how to run a restaurant
No thanks! This place sucks." As the feud intensified, some reviewers returned to the page to report they had received death threats and other threatening private messages after publishing their comments
Yelp has now stepped in, announcing it was "cleaning up" The Red Hen's page after it became apparent most reviews were less about the restaurant's food and service and more about political debate
"This business recently made waves in the news, which often means that people come to this page to post their views on the news," Yelp said in a pop-up message on the page
"While we don't take a stand one way or the other when it comes to these news events, we do work to remove both positive and negative posts that appear to be motivated more by the news coverage itself than the review's personal consumer experience with a business
" It added reviews "may be removed as part of our clean-up process". The Red Hen has an overall Yelp rating of 3
5 stars from 10,272 reviews at the time of publishing. The incident has also blown up on Twitter
In light of the furore, The Red Hen's owner has explained her controversial decision, saying the rural community of Lexington had voted overwhelmingly against Mr Trump in the 2016 election and her staff were "a little concerned" when Ms Sanders walked in on Friday night
"I'm not a huge fan of confrontation," Stephanie Wilkinson told the Washington Post
"I have a business, and I want the business to thrive. This feels like the moment in our democracy when people have to make uncomfortable actions and decisions to uphold their morals
" She said she approached Ms Sanders for a chat outside. "I was babbling a little, but I got my point across in a polite and direct fashion," Ms Wilkinson said
"I explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty, and compassion, and co-operation
I said, 'I'd like to ask you to leave'." She said Ms Sanders replied with: "That's fine
I'll go." But Ms Sanders' father, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, jumped to his daughter's defence
"Bigotry. On the menu at Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington VA," he tweeted on Saturday
"Or you can ask for the 'Hate Plate'. And appetisers are 'small plates for small mind'
"
