hey what's going on it is Steph here from StephJKing.com coming to
you from beautiful Brisbane Australia and tis the season to start thinking
about new year resolutions and let me just be honest with you I'm actually not
normally the type of person that would set new year resolutions and I think
that's because I'm a bit of a bada** and I don't like listening to people
telling me what to do including myself so give this video a thumbs up or leave
me a comment below if you feel me on that one but what I ended up figuring
out was I didn't like the normal new year resolutions that seem to be talked
about so I looked at what are the little things that I would normally try to
focus on or set myself little goals throughout the year and I realized well
they're kind of New Year's resolutions so I wanted to share with you 20 of the
ones that I came up with and some of them are from what I've already done in
2018 and some of them are things that I want to either carry through with me or
start in 2019 so let's dive straight into it with number one and that is to
make your bed every single day now this is something that I did start in 2018
and I tell ya when you make your bed the first thing in the morning you
automatically have this feeling of accomplishment and having that feeling
actually drives you to want to achieve more throughout the day so you are
essentially kick-starting your day in a really positive frame of mind I also
found that it makes you want to keep your room nice and clean number two is
have a good morning and evening routine I found waking up and having a really
nice cruisey peaceful morning routine where I make my bed I get some
meditation in I might do some journaling I have a really nice smoothie for
breakfast just sets the tone for the rest of the day and same with having an
evening routine I find that having that time where you're turning your phones
off or your computers off at a certain time before you go to bed and then
having that nice relaxing routine where you know your body then knows
it's bedtime so it starts to sort of like get into that mode of okay sleep
time it's time to recover and I just found that you get a really sound sleep
and then you wake up fresh or ready to do your morning routine and kick start
the next day and a positive mindset number three is to meditate or practice
mindfulness every single day now this is something I started off really strong
with in 2018 and before I started to meditate I would get very overwhelmed or
stressed out very very quickly over even the littlest of things and it really
impacted me and even those people that were around me so when I started to
meditate every day I took the time to do that my whole demeanor changed I was
handling things a lot better I wasn't getting overwhelmed my anxiety had
calmed down and even the people around me really noticed that changed in my
personality and in just up my whole attitude they were just saying that I
was a lot more karma and they could tell that something had changed and they were
really wanting to know what it was that I was doing and it was meditation now
it's something that I did fall off on throughout the year but I've just picked
it up again and I'm getting back into it and each day I can feel myself just
getting better and better number four is learn to journal now
there's so many different ways that you can journal you can do just a flow of
consciousness which is just pretty much you sitting down and writing out
anything that comes to your mind without stopping or without thinking about it
that's personally my favorite and that's what I like to do but there's so many
other ways that you can also do it and what you may want to do is set a little
bit more structure around it if you find it a little bit uncomfortable about just
writing everything out that comes to your mind and that could be just writing
out three things that you accomplished in your day that you felt good about
three things that you were grateful for today and also three things that you
would like to get accomplished for your next day but there's so many different
ways you just need to figure out what feels
right to you and just start doing it number five is to eat more Whole Foods
and this is something that I really need to practice more of in 2019 I have been
on so many different diets so now I'm at that stage where I don't like to
restrict myself and the best way I know moving forward to get all the nutrients
and to feel energized and feel good and healthy and happy is to eat more Whole
Foods so eating a lot of fruit vegetables nuts seeds and a really good
source of protein so that's something that I really want to focus on next year
is to lessen all the processed foods and eat more real Whole Foods number six is
to detox your home just take a moment to walk around your house and have a look
at all the products that you have that these include cleaning products beauty
products skin care hair care even like nail polish nail polish remover and what
you'll find is a lot of these things have toxins and bad stuff in there so
just take a moment and just research what you can do to find more natural or
healthier alternatives to these products and just over the course of the year
start to slowly replace them as you're using them up or you can just go cold
turkey if you want and just replace them all in one swift go I previously done a
video on home made cleaning products which I found really really good it's
good for the environment good for your home and good for you and your body so I
will leave a link to that up above and also in the description box for you to
go check out if you want to start making your own cleaning products it's super
super simple trust me anything that's really really hard or lengthy probably
not going to do and these are really really quick and really good number
seven is declutter your space when I started cleaning out certain areas of my
home in 2018 walking into that space and knowing that it was like organized and
neat and tidy it was such a good feeling and
I want to do so many more other areas in my home so that's actually on my goals
list for 2019 I will be going through my entire home
cleaning it up decluttering and getting rid of stuff so if you are interested in
that kind of video then watch out because there's going to be so many of
them come January 2019 because the reason why I'm doing this is I'm a firm
believer in investing in experiences this material objects so that is
something that I love and it is important to me so that is a focus for
me in 2019 number eight is understand your body and this is something that I
really focused on in 2018 I actually spoke about it in my previous video
eight or some things I learnt in 2018 so again I will leave that in the
description box below if you want to go check that out and I just talked about
how I took the time to start really researching the products in my home and
just even like understanding my cycle to make sure I knew what was going on in my
body in regards to hormones and also energy levels and all that kind of stuff
I took note of the types of foods that were impacting my body so things made me
bloat or made me feel really tired and lethargic then I knew obviously that
thing or something in that food was not agreeing with my body so just take the
time to start learning more about your body and how your environment your
lifestyle the products that you use the emotional stress on your body just how
it all interconnects and how it affects you overall and that kind of leads me
into my ninth point which is have a health check-up and I don't mean you
need to go to your GP which is your general practitioner I love my GP he's
great we get along really well he's very knowledgeable but to be honest I barely
ever see him most of the time if I want to go sort something out or get a
check-up I'm seeing my naturopath my acupuncturist and my kinesiologist and
whilst we're talking about health check-ups
ladies make sure that you are regularly having your pap smears and your
mammograms or just your checkups in general and gents I'm not too sure what
your general health check-ups are but make sure you're getting those booked in
number 10 is reduce the radiation in your home I'm going to record a whole
other video to talk about in detail on what I actually did to reduce radiation
in your home so if that's something you're interested in then just give this

together number eleven is to reduce a screen time I still remember a few years
ago when I went over to New Zealand and I didn't end up getting a SIM card for
my phones so the whole time that I was there I think it was a few weeks I had
no phone while I was there and it was amazing I came back so much more
refreshed and just felt energized and happy and healthy and I just saw to
myself that I was going to reduce how much I rely upon just my phone even and
that was kind of a fail over the next few years since then but it's something
that I've really taking note of at the moment because I do spend a lot of time
in front of a computer a laptop and my phone so in 2019 I just want to set a
little more structure and maybe some boundaries on having some screen free
time and maybe you want to do the same thing number 12 is to get outside and
this is another thing that I love but I don't often get to do and I just really
feel the difference - when I'm cooped up inside I just start to feel a little bit
like oh little things start to annoy me and when I get outside and even just go
for a drive and just go for a walk or just go have a coffee with a girlfriend
or even my partner Tom I just think oh my gosh like why don't I do this more
often so make it a plan to just get outside
more often it doesn't have to be for long periods of time but just I really
notice the difference when I've got some fresh air and
vitamin D so that will be definitely going on my new year's resolutions for
2019 number 13 is do something you've always wanted to do for me it's a
photography course I've been wanting to do a photography course pretty sure
since I was in high school that's when I first became interested in it and I have
literally done nothing about it and it always goes on my list every single year
that this year I'm gonna do a photography course so hold me
accountable in 2019 I'm gonna look up some photography courses whether they're
online or in person and I'm going to book myself in number 14 is to take up a
new hobby and that could be absolutely anything your heart's desire maybe you
want to start a touch football team or start at your local football club or
maybe you wanted to take up dance class or it could be as simple as those
coloring in books I start waiting for my acupuncturist a few weeks ago and they
had some coloring in books and I sat there for like a good ten minutes just
coloring in and it was actually really therapeutic so even that could be
something that you want to start number fifteen is to invest in yourself by
investing in yourself you are investing into your future and by invest it
doesn't necessarily mean money it could be time so maybe you just want to invest
in audible each month so you get a new book that you can listen to maybe it's
taking an online course or even hiring that mentor that you've been thinking
about that you really really want to start taking your skill and your
knowledge to that next level number 16 is to read consistently and this is
something that I also really want to focus on again I had this goal in my
mind last year that I wanted to read a book a month and I felt that that was
maybe a little bit unachievable for me particularly because I was listening to
audiobooks and I'm not always in my car or in transit to be able to listen to
them so I think if you just have a goal that you even read like 10 pages a day
or you read for 10 minutes a day whatever it is it could be as simple as
that or maybe you're just not a very big
radar maybe you're not interested in that so maybe you just want to set the
goal of reading two books this year whether it's a physical book or via an
audio book number 17 is to organize your finances now if you don't even know
where your money's going or you don't have a budget written up yet then that
should be your first focus point once you've done that then your focus should
be saving three to six months of your monthly expenses into a security account
now I have done a couple of different videos previously all around money so I
will leave a link to the playlist below so you can go check those out but if
you've done all that already you've got you three to six months saved you know
where your money is going you've reduced to your expenses where you possibly can
now is the time to start look at how you can invest your money by investing your
money you are then making it work for you and how good is that like your money
works for you so you could potentially be making money in your sleep and that
is a lot better than just having it in a bank account where there's very low
interest rate and you're not really getting anything back in return for it
if you are interested in learning more about what to do with your money and how
to invest it then I will leave a link to my number one recommended investing
course I got so much out of it my knowledge just would just grow so much
and I would also recommend picking up a book called money Master the game by
Tony Robbins number eighteen is to be a tourist in your own hometown think about
it how often do you really explore your own backyard I know I don't and there's
so many places that I want to see an experience in southeast Queensland it's
amazing that I haven't literally lived here in my entire life and there's still
so many places that I real haven't seen or experienced for myself
so that is definitely something that I want to do next year
I just want to act like a tourist find all the places that you would tell a
friend if they were coming here for holidays where to go and I just want to
go through my list throughout the year and just start checking off all the
places number 19 is to reduce your waste and this was a huge focus for us in 2018
we've always been avid recyclers for a few years now but we've taken it to the
next level we now use reusable bags when we go shopping I use a water bottle we
never buy a plastic water bottles anymore we have glass reusable
containers I shop at the source Bach Foods so a lot of the stuff there is you
can take your own containers and fill them up instead of buying packaged goods
from a grocery store and yeah just heaps of stuff we just use things that are
more biodegradable and reusable now and it makes you feel really good because
you know that you're just doing a really positive thing for Mother Earth and if

below for you to check that one out last but definitely not least number 20 call
or text a loved one regularly life can get hectic and before you know it a
month or two has gone by and you've not spoken to your family or some of your
friends and I know I'm a bit of a culprit in doing this so in 2019 I want
to make it a more regular occurrence where I'm like calling and just catching
up with a loved one or even just texting them a little bit more regularly just to
touch base to let them know that I'm always thinking of them and I love them
so there you have it 20 ideas for new year resolutions for 2019 I hope you're
super pumped for the new year means a fresh start which is very exciting
there's a few there that I will definitely be taking into the new year
