How to Locate Coronary Plaque Buildup | Medical Minute Monday Ep. 21 - Duration: 2:27.
Hi there, and welcome back to another Medical Minute Monday!

That's right, it's me!
Stan the Medical Minute Man!
This week I'll be guiding you through a diagnostic procedure, coronary angiography.
Coronary angiography is the most common procedure performed via coronary catheterization.
If you missed last week's Medical Minute on this procedure, be sure to go back and
give it a watch before moving on!
During a coronary angiogram, radiocontrast dye is injected through the catheter into
the blood vessels of the heart.
Fluoroscopy, an imaging technique that uses X-rays to obtain real-time moving images,
is used to visualize the dye moving through the heart and its vessels.
The dye mixes with the blood flowing through the vessels, turning them dark on the X-ray.
If blood flow is restricted or blocked, the doctor will see an area of the vessel that
is lighter than the adjacent areas.
Here we have a healthy heart with defined blood vessels, thanks to the radiocontrast dye.
Here we have an unhealthy heart.
A portion of the left anterior descending branch is lighter than the adjacent areas.
This region of the artery isn't appearing on the X-ray because the flow of the dye-containing
blood is restricted.
There is blood flow past this area, so this patient is said to have a partial occlusion.
The size and location of the narrowed or blocked artery will determine the course of treatment.
An angioplasty may be performed in order to unblock the artery, but we'll save that
procedure for another week!
By far, the most common indication for coronary angiography is angina, which is a type of
chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart.
Patients are kept awake but mildly sedated, during the procedure.
As we discussed last week, this allows the patient to alert the doctor of any sudden
chest pain.
Risks of coronary angiography include hypotension, thrombosis, stroke, myocardial infarction,
and injury to the artery resulting in hemorrhage and the need for bypass surgery.
As with coronary catheterizations, the outlook for this procedure is good, and patients recover quickly.
Patients are often instructed to refrain from sex or heavy exercise for two days and are
asked to follow-up in one week.

which is situated in about thirty miles from Marina del Rey
We got stuck in a terrible traffic jam, were going there for an hour and a half but have handled it
It is very warm here. Differently from Marina del Rey it is much warmer here:
about 15...20 Fahrenheit
And it is significant. I feel like I am in Miami
It is very hot here. But, actually, it is a plus
When you come up from water,
warm wind can get at you and it is much more pleasant
So, our friends, Masha and Anton, have a special boat which produces a wave
Here you can wakeboard. I have never tried wakeboard,
and today I am to try it for the first time in my life
Thanks God, our friends are experienced.
They are athletes, they have been doing it for a long time and their son
takes part in competitions and gets awards. They go worldwide
And today I will have a wonderful opportunity to try wakeboarding for the first time in my life.
