Youtube daily report Jun 13 2017

The south of England had become a vast military camp,

jam-packed with hundreds of thousands of soldiers,

all planning on a trip to the Normandy beaches in the early summer.

The job of the British Security Service, MI5,

was to make sure that, on D-Day, the Germans were looking the other way.

If they failed, tens of thousands of men would die.

In August 1942, desperate to score a success

in the face of an unending string of military setbacks and defeats,

the Allies carried out a daring raid on the French port of Dieppe.

But the Germans were ready for them, fortified and prepared for the attack.

It was an unmitigated disaster,

leaving almost 4,000 Canadians dead on the beaches.

This catastrophe convinced everybody

that when the real invasion of France came,

the Germans must not be prepared for it, or D-Day would mean destruction.

This was, of course, going to be a little tricky.

By 90 days after D-Day, the US army alone

planned to have 1.2 million men with all of their equipment in France.

You can't just hide that under a bit of camouflage netting.

And so was born Operation Fortitude,

the most ambitious deception plan in military history.

The operation wouldn't pretend that there was to be no invasion,

that would be impossible. Instead, their goal would be

to fool the Germans about how many were coming, when they would land,

and where they would land.

Army groups were positioned around Britain to confuse the Germans.

The British 4th army was stationed in Scotland,

supposedly preparing to attack Norway.

General George Patton became the proud commander

of the 1st US Army Group

stationed on the English coast opposite the Pas de Calais,

the closest crossing to France.

The British 4th and the US 1st were somewhat unusual armies

in that there were no actual people in them.

They were completely fake, made up, non-existent.

The allies had no real soldiers to spare,

they were all needed in France for the ACTUAL invasion.

So to get the Germans to fall for this massive bluff,

the film industry was called in.

They created a brilliant illusion, an entire dummy army,

wooden aircraft, inflatable tanks, 250 fake landing craft.

Two fake corps headquarters were invented,

pouring out a constant stream of radio drivel.

At one point, King George VI even made an official inspection visit,

solemnly inspecting row after row of blow up tanks and real troops

who had bussed in for the day,

all while the daily news reel broadcast this inspection to the world.

George even managed to look thoroughly impressed.

And, because you might as well go big or go home,

this inflatable 1st US Army was presented not just as a threat, but as

the threat, the primary invasion force to be launched at the Pas de Calais.

The Germans already considered this

the most likely destination for the Allied attack;

now the Allies just had to make sure the Germans CONTINUED to believe that.

And so was born MI5's Twenty Committee,

so called for the XX Roman Numerals… Double Cross.

Double Cross fed the Germans a constant stream of highly credible intel,

a combination of utter rubbish and brilliant information

delivered just too late to be useful.

Back in 1939, the British had turned a German agent into a double agent.

He was pretty useless, but he had told MI5 everything they needed to know

about how the German secret service communicated with their agents.

The Twenty Committee used this information to create

an entire network of double agents.

By D-Day, Germany's network of spies in Britain

was owned by the Twenty Committee.

One agent was a Catalan, code named GARBO.

Garbo created a completely fictitious network of 27 agents

who bombarded the German embassy in Madrid with messages,

presenting an utterly convincing, and utterly false, picture.

The REAL attack, they said, would come in the Pas de Calais;

any other perceived invasions such as, I don't know, Normandy, whatever,

those were feints. If you hear any guns or shouting,

just relax, it's just the neighbours again. Go back to bed.

Garbo was good at his job.

So good, in fact, that the Germans awarded him with the Iron Cross

for his invaluable services.

But the danger was that even if they fooled the Germans before the invasion,

once the Allies landed, the deception would be over.

All German military strength in France would be concentrated on Normandy;

and the Allies would then no doubt be driven back into the sea.

So a series of new operations were concocted to convince the Germans

that other invasions would follow the first all along the coast of France.

Secrecy was critical.

To help the invading forces,

a complete photographic map of all of the beaches was needed.

The RAF and USAAF ran hundreds of photographic missions,

but they needed more.

So the public were asked to send in all of their holiday beach photos.

Then the toy maker Chad Valley was commissioned to take this intel

and make a vast map of the operational area

in jigsaw puzzle form for easy mobility.

The jigsaw map was delivered by two men in two pieces,

neither of them knew which was the real one,

and, once the delivery was complete,

neither was allowed to leave headquarters until D-Day was over.

The British armed forces were obsessive about security.

They arranged for 30 members of the women's Auxiliary Air Force

to dress in civilian clothes

and visit pubs close to where the British commandos were staying.

Their job: to flirt with the men and try to get them to spill

information about their mission.

To everybody's amazement and delight, the commandos kept quiet.

MI5 still worried that the news was out, though,

and that the Germans would be ready and waiting.

Back in 1942,

the crossword in the Daily Telegraph newspaper had included a clue

answered by the word "Dieppe",

just one day before the Dieppe raid had taken place.

Worrisome. And now, on May 2nd,

in the same crossword section came the clue "One of the U.S.",

and the answer was Utah,

the code name for one of the beaches the Americans were to land on.

Then on the 22nd of May, came the answer "Omaha",

another beach, and then later "Mulberry", "Overlord" and "Neptune".

All code words for various D-Day operations.

Finally, MI5 descended in a fury upon Leonard Dawe,

the school master who wrote these crosswords.

Turns out that it was all just an extraordinary series of coincidences.

But the big question remained: had all of this deception and secrecy worked?

And how would the Allies know if it had?

They needed to be able to read German communications to be sure.

The Germans used an extraordinarily complex encoding system: Enigma.

The codes were changed daily,

and there were 159 million million million possible permutations.

German messages should have been impossible to read.

But the British thought they could crack the code.

They assembled a team of brilliant mathematicians like Alan Turing

at Bletchley Park to do it.

Then the allies had a lucky break.

In May 1941, a British ship forced a German U-boat to the surface.

The Germans abandoned their sinking craft, but in the final moment,

the British sailors managed to board

and capture the most unimaginable treasure:

a completely intact code machine and codebooks.

Soon, and for much of the rest of the war,

the British were routinely reading German messages.

One estimate has suggested that the intelligence gained from this find

may have shortened the war by more than 2 years.

It was through that intelligence the Allies learned

that the Twenty Committee had been stunningly successful.

When the balloon finally went up, every key German commander

greeted the news of operations in Normandy as an invasion,

but not the invasion. Critical German focus, men and material

remained on the Pas de Calais even after D-Day,

confusing, slowing and weakening the German response.

It was little short of a miracle.

And so D-Day began for the British and Canadian forces.

The British beaches were called Gold and Sword,

and the Canadian beach, Juno.

Churchill had insisted on proper names rather than silly code names,

saying that no mother wanted to hear that her son had given his life

at the "Bunnyhug" landings.

The British parachute drop, despite massive confusion,

achieved most objectives in the face of incredible odds.

700 men and a complete glider train of artillery

were supposed to be sent to capture a critical German battery.

But when all of the equipment and most of the men were lost in the landing,

the 150 remaining soldiers,

armed only with rifles and Sten guns, took the battery none the less.

It's 7:25am at Sword beach. Mine clearing tanks thrash the sand,

sappers run beside them to disable mines and obstacles,

frequently falling to enemy fire along the way.

Then come tanks and flamethrowers

throwing themselves at the German defences on the dunes.

And only then come the landing craft to release their cargos of men.

In the chaos, the schedule collapses in only half an hour.

The beach has become a tangle of men, machinery, twisted wreckage,

a chaos of dead, dying and living.

The air is filled with the roar of gunfire.

Every moment is a drama of comedies, tragedies and moments of heroism.

But despite the cost, the landing at Sword was remarkably successful.

By 9:00pm, many units were off the beaches and moving inland.

At Juno, Canadian losses were heavier,

but they soon broke through the coastal defences, as did the British at Gold.

The landing plan had worked amazingly well, considering.

Almost everywhere, the German coast lines had been rolled up.

And the allies had complete control of the air.

The Luftwaffe was nowhere to be seen.

Now was the time to strike hard and fast into the interior,

to exploit the Germans' shock and seize the vital objectives,

including the major town of Caen. There was a period of calm

as men brewed up to recover from the initial assault,

and then they moved inland to link up with the airborne units.

Unfortunately, the beach heads behind them were a massive traffic jam.

The roads were chaos, and their armour support

was still fighting their way through that traffic to reach them.

And the Germans continued to fight hard; key strongpoints resisted

and slowed the British and Canadian infantry's advance.

At 6:00pm, a unit of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry

came under heavy fire 3 miles short of Caen and dug in for the night.

With little armoured support,

pressing the attack and capturing the town was not an option.

That night, men lay across a 60 mile stretch with their weapons,

peering into a darkness lit by flares, tracer and shells.

D-Day had been a remarkable success;

but as elite German divisions approached,

the fight for Normandy was about to begin,

and it would be harder than any could imagine.

NARRATOR: It's the Sam Simon and its crew that are confronting

the issues here head on.

Of course, their day was a bit frustrating

when you see this overwhelming amount of nets that's out

there, that there's till the fishermen

going out and laying more nets.

NARRATOR: The Sam Simon's primary weapon

in their fight against these gillnets

is what they call a phantom ray.

The ray is set for seven, eight meters.

NARRATOR: The ray is dropped into the water at a set depth.

It drags a grappling hook along the sea floor.

When the hook catches a net, a thin breaker line

attached to the ship snaps.

This releases the ray and marks the net's location with a buoy.

MAN (ON RADIO): Sam Simon, Sam Simon, this is Viking.

I can confirm for the net.

I reckon there's a couple of totoaba in the water there.

There must be six, seven carcasses of totoaba

floating by us right now.

I guess the deal is that they cut

the bladders out as quick as possible

and throw the rest in the sea.

Now we're going to launch the boat

and go find out whether it is a totoaba net, or a long line,

or any illegal fishing gear that is in these waters.

And then we're going to retrieve it.

- Can I come with you? - Of course.

The sea shepherd team have managed to scoop

up the remnants of that net.

And we're on our way to find out what's in it.

Surrounded by dead carcasses of totoaba

that have been mutilated, its twin bladders taken out.

They're everywhere.

PIA KLEMP: One, two.

Wow, that's tough, huh?

PIA KLEMP: Yeah, one, two.

NARRATOR: But the totoaba are far from the only victims

of these nets.

And the nature of the sea, there could be anything in this net.

We have been finding everything from sea lions

to dolphins to hammerhead sharks.

Not too long ago, we saw a whale.

And it was almost like an hourglass

for how much the net was strangling

the whale like halfway through.

So it really is a whole load of species that are caught up

in this trade for the totoaba.

Right?

The net doesn't really distinguish

who it's going to catch.

So whichever animal swims through these waters

is sentenced to death.

Oh, here comes the shark.

PIA KLEMP: Oh, no.

GIACOMO GIORGI: Oh, the hammerhead.

Oh, Chris, it feels pretty soft.

GIACOMO GIORGI: Is it still alive?

PIA KLEMP: I don't think so.

Come here, baby.

We are wiping out sharks from our oceans for their fins.

In Asia, they eat shark fin soup.

And what happens is that a lot of fishing vessels

catch a shark, cut their fin, and then

throw back their bodies.

And finding a dead shark, a dead hammerhead in this net

is really heartbreaking.

NARRATOR: But the heartbreak here isn't

reserved for marine life alone.

As the Sam Simon continues its mission

to remove illegal gillnets, the nearby fishing towns suffocate.

The power of creative constraints - Brandon Rodriguez - Duration: 5:10.

Imagine you're asked to invent something new.

It could be whatever you want

made from anything you choose

in any shape or size.

That kind of creative freedom sounds so liberating, doesn't it?

Or does it?

If you're like most people, you'd probably be paralyzed by this task.

Without more guidance, where would you even begin?

As it turns out, boundless freedom isn't always helpful.

In reality, any project is restricted by many factors,

such as the cost,

what materials you have at your disposal,

and unbreakable laws of physics.

These factors are called creative constraints,

and they're the requirements and limitations

we have to address in order to accomplish a goal.

Creative constraints apply across professions,

to architects and artists,

writers,

engineers,

and scientists.

In many fields, constraints play a special role

as drivers of discovery and invention.

During the scientific process in particular,

constraints are an essential part of experimental design.

For instance, a scientist studying a new virus would consider,

"How can I use the tools and techniques at hand

to create an experiment that tells me how this virus infects the body's cells?

And what are the limits of my knowledge that prevent me

from understanding this new viral pathway?"

In engineering, constraints have us apply our scientific discoveries

to invent something new and useful.

Take, for example, the landers Viking 1 and 2,

which relied on thrusters to arrive safely on the surface of Mars.

The problem?

Those thrusters left foreign chemicals on the ground,

contaminating soil samples.

So a new constraint was introduced.

How can we land a probe on Mars

without introducing chemicals from Earth?

The next Pathfinder mission used an airbag system

to allow the rover to bounce and roll to a halt

without burning contaminating fuel.

Years later, we wanted to send a much larger rover: Curiosity.

However, it was too large for the airbag design,

so another constraint was defined.

How can we land a large rover while still keeping rocket fuel

away from the Martian soil?

In response, engineers had a wild idea.

They designed a skycrane.

Similar to the claw machine at toy stores,

it would lower the rover from high above the surface.

With each invention, the engineers demonstrated an essential habit

of scientific thinking -

that solutions must recognize the limitations of current technology

in order to advance it.

Sometimes this progress is iterative,

as in, "How can I make a better parachute to land my rover?"

And sometimes, it's innovative,

like how to reach our goal

when the best possible parachute isn't going to work.

In both cases, the constraints guide decision-making

to ensure we reach each objective.

Here's another Mars problem yet to be solved.

Say we want to send astronauts who will need water.

They'd rely on a filtration system that keeps the water very clean

and enables 100% recovery.

Those are some pretty tough constraints,

and we may not have the technology for it now.

But in the process of trying to meet these objectives,

we might discover other applications of any inventions that result.

Building an innovative water filtration system

could provide a solution for farmers working in drought-stricken regions,

or a way to clean municipal water in polluted cities.

In fact, many scientific advances

have occurred when serendipitous failures in one field

address the constraints of another.

When scientist Alexander Fleming mistakenly contaminated

a Petri dish in the lab,

it led to the discovery of the first antibiotic, penicillin.

The same is true of synthetic dye,

plastic,

and gunpowder.

All were created mistakenly,

but went on to address the constraints of other problems.

Understanding constraints guides scientific progress,

and what's true in science is also true in many other fields.

Constraints aren't the boundaries of creativity, but the foundation of it.

A little while ago it was announced that a new nation would rise, not here on Earth,

but in Space! This new nation follows a set of philosophies regarding peace and science,

as in a place distant from the "oppressions of the world" giving humanity freedom to evolve.

More than 100.000 people have signed to become citizens of Asgardia.

The project was backed by Russian billionaire Dr Igor Ashurbeyli and a consortium of scientists.

The project is now moving forward as the first satellites are being sent to space.

A nano-satellite will serve the purpose of "mapping the solar flux, and determine the

radiation dosing that the internal electronics are receiving".

It is equipped with two sophisticated two particle detectors.

Another aim of this ambitious project is to protect humanity from catastrophic threats

Prince Harry NOT James Hewitt's son and this PROVES it - Duration: 4:45.

A VICIOUS conspiracy theory that Prince Harry is not Prince Charles son may finally have

been put to rest.

Harrys mum Princess Diana had a five year affair with cavalry officer James Hewitt while

married to Prince Charles.

Harry, who is attending Pippa Middletons wedding with his girlfriend Meghan Markle

has been dogged by rumours Hewitt is his real dad ever since.

The main evidence put forward for the claim is Harrys red hair and the roguish streak

he shares with Hewitt.

But new close analysis of the facial features, body and personality of Harry, Hewitt, Charles

and Harrys granddad, Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh, show the Prince is a Windsor.

A Royal source with expert knowledge of hereditary features has revealed why Harry must be Charles

son.

The apparent similarities between Harry and Hewitt who was rushed to hospital after suffering

a heart attack last week have kept the rumour alive since Diana admitted the affair on BBC

Panorama back in 1995.

More than 50% of the 1,800 people who responded to a Daily Star Online poll said the retired

major was Harrys dad, compared to just 34% who thought he was Charles son.

Although the results must be taken with a pinch of salt as 4% said fellow ginger Ed

Sheeran was the culprit, with another 2% fingering Frankie Boyle.

But the theory is widespread enough to be included in BBC drama King Charles III.

Hewitt was forced to deny the rumour on TV in March.

And the new analysis appears to prove he was telling the truth.

Although both Hewitt and Harry are normally tarred with the same ginger brush, our Royal

expert pointed out Harrys hair is better described as strawberry blond with a red beard.

His eyebrows and eyelashes are light and his eyes are blue.

In contrast, Hewitts hair is a darker brown, with brown eyebrows and brown eyes.

Although neither Diana nor Charles were redheads, Dianas brother Earl Spencer is, so Diana

could have been carrying ginger genes.

Our Royal expert also pointed out Harrys hair unlike Hewitts is curly.

This kind of curly red hair is often associated with Scotland.

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Harrys great grandmother, was a member of the Scottish

aristocracy.

The only real feature Harry has in common with his mums lover is his chin, our source

said.

Although not as obvious as his hair colour, Harry shares several features with Prince

Charles and his granddad, Prince Philip.

All three have small eyes set close to their nose.

These have been called the Mountbatten eyes, after Prince Philips family name.

At 6ft 2ins, Harry is above average height.

Prince Charles is 5ft 10ins and the Duke of Edinburgh is 6ft.

Our expert said they all share the Mountbatten bottom which has very low slung buttocks,

apparently.

His ears are a very similar size and shape to his brother Prince Williams.

But the key to identifying Harrys heritage is his teeth.

Harry has small upper teeth with very small canine teeth.

This is very unusual for a Briton as most Brits, including Hewitt, have large canines.

Harry probably inherited this trait from his granddad Philip, who was a member of the Greek

and Danish royal families.

The source, who asked not to be named, told Daily Star Online: Some years ago I had

a commission to do a forensic analysis of the faces of Prince Harry and Hewitt.

The only feature they have in common is their chin, and most features are entirely

different.

To say they are both ginger is misleading.

Harry is blue eyed, now strawberry blond with light brows and lashes, and a red beard.

Hewitt has dark red-brown hair, brows and eyes.

Harry has the close set Mountbatten eyes.

Harry has very small canine teeth which is unusual.

Hewitt has fairly large canine teeth, which is almost universal in our isles. tell

us your thoughts in comments below.

Can a Pro Cyclist be faster than the Triumph Street Triple RS 765 ? - Duration: 9:08.

Just next door to the Moto Journal office is the office of this wonderful magazine Le Cycle.

You know what it's like with guys from different fields when they get chatting around the coffee machine.

Jokes and banter ensue.

And they reckon that with a pro in the saddle, a bike can go faster than a motorbike in a downhill race.

Pfffff, whatever!

But chatter and conjecture can only get you so far.

So to show the bicycle lovers who is really the quickest on the road,

we chose this: the new Triumph Street Triple RS".

The ultimate mid-size roadster sports bike.

It's true that with this motorbike, we're not really giving them a chance.

But what did you expect?

We weren't going to choose a big GT

with a 100kg cameraman on the back like something from the Tour de France.

We're not here to take part, we're here to win!

This is the kind of test we love: warped, pointless and therefore absolutely essential.

Unless our cyclist friend has shot a hefty dose of EPO into his legs,

he's going to struggle against the new Triumph Street Triple RS.

Indeed, this year the little British bike really is setting the world alight.

Its engine size has gone up to 765cc, its power has increased to 123bhp

and all its parts, from suspension, brakes or electronic assistance, are top of the range.

The icing on the cake is the extremely intuitive handling of this little beauty.

The frame is narrow, the riding position is sporty but comfortable

and from the first few turns, you can feel the chassis impressive agility.

Finally, although the power of this three-cylinder is well up-to-scratch, it delivers it gradually.

This means that you can accelerate very early coming out of the corner without ever losing control.

Hmmm, all of that sounds suspiciously sporty!

And the Pirelli Supercorsa SPs fitted as standard on our RS version are there to prove it.

I'm telling you, it's going to be tricky for the guy on the pedals.

Especially as we kept one last ace up our sleeves.

- I know there's no chance of us losing, but just to make sure, I'm putting my faith in Matt.

He's the fastest journalist in the Moto Journal team. We're going to squash that cyclist!

- We're going to destroy him!

And we needed a special location for such a momentous duel.

So we came here, to the west slope of the Col de Menté.

A peak in the Pyrenees with an altitude of 1,350m,

with an incline of over 8% over the 2.5km which we're going to use for this race.

For the curious among you, the 10th stage of the 2017 Tour de France will pass through here,

but they'll be going uphill.

And finally, we needed a top cyclist.

And we found one in Maxence Moncassin.

The son of the former pro cyclist Frédéric Moncassin

is also a cycling expert and is now in his 2nd year in the under 23 category.

80kg of muscle, most of it in the thighs,

meticulous hair-removal,

minimalist equipment and a completely fearless attitude at his young age of just 20.

In terms of his ride,

we know nothing about bikes but his Moreno DR2S looks pretty handy to us.

Carbon frame, Shimano Ultégra derailleur, slick tyres and aluminium rims…hmmm

OK, not bad.

Except that he's facing our colleague Matthieu

and the RS version of the Street Triple, which is the bike's most sporty model.

The basis of the engine is a Daytona 675, with an increased bore and stroke and over 80 modified parts.

Although its design remains identical, the aluminium frame has shed 2kg.

The Street is now light as a feather with a dry weight of just 166kg.

The suspension is made up of a Showa BPF fork at the front and an Ohlins shock absorber at the rear.

As for braking, there are 2 large Brembo M50 callipers squeezing 310mm disks.

But the key innovation is the master cylinder

which has a second dial allowing you to adjust the travel of the brake lever.

The further you turn it,

the shorter the travel becomes and the quicker the brake power is applied.

Finally, you can only really appreciate this superb dashboard in full colour.

There are 6 display options,

it is very easy to read and particularly intuitive when you want to access the engine maps,

traction control, ABS or even the sensitivity of the throttle.

And, in the end, when you've gotta go, you've gotta go!

Obviously, from the first few metres, the Triumph took a comfortable lead

thanks to the power of its 3 cylinders.

While it harnesses 123bhp, Max's legs can only offer 2.

And that's where the motorbike established an unassailable lead over the cyclist.

But our rival gave it everything: taking racing lines and shaving the verges coming out of the corners,

last gasp braking

and the acceleration of a sprinter

raising Maxence's heart rate to 180bpm.

But despite an average speed of 50 km/h with peaks of almost 85 km/h,

the bike took 2:41 minutes to cover the 2km course compared to the 1:49 clocked up by the motorbike.

"Just as we thought, there was no contest.

- Absolutely.

Under acceleration, once you're three quarters of the way through the corner,

the motorbike streaks ahead.

I think we must have carried about the same speed through the turn,

However, you're pretty good under braking up until the apex.

I think we must have carried about the same speed through the turn,

-At what point did you feel you not so far away from the motorbike?

-Under braking in particular I felt like was catching up.

But under acceleration, there was no contest, the motorbike has much more power.

Even though I was giving it all with my legs, it's hard to match.

-From your opinion Matthieu, which bike could be more equitable for a race like that?

-Honestly, unless you had a Goldwing with a trailer and the whole family in the back,

I don't see how you could lose.

-Even on a custom bike with no ground clearance, would it still be the same?

I think so. Obviously, he would catch up in the corners and maybe under braking,

but a motorbike has such fast acceleration that I would just streak ahead.

- Especially because you weren't even going flat out there.

-Maybe if I had a hand in my back

- OK, I've got an idea,

you were getting a hand from your engine,

but what if we did the same race free-wheeling? What do you reckon?

- What do you think?

- I'm up for it, you?

- OK, it's on, let's go."

"Come closer my children"

"Now you won't be so cocky.

- We'll see!"

This time, things are different.

Now, Matt will have to count on the finesse of his riding and the Street's chassis.

Luckily for him, the British bike is well kitted out on that side too.

Triumph has a habit of fine-tuning the geometry of its bikes,

and the new Street benefits from a very neutral behaviour

on turn in and changes of direction.

In the end, with a time of 3:23,

it was only 13 seconds behind a bike with the advantages of very narrow tyres and quality bearings.

But as well as the results of the race, we were taken aback by Maxence's speed and bravery.

Riding that fast in just a lycra outfit and cycling helmet, seriously,

the guys who go flat out in the downhill sections of cycling races deserve our utmost respect.

And it comes as no surprise that they give the media motorbikes a run for their money during races.

"In races, have you ever ended up overtaking media motorbikes?"

- Yes, it's happened to me before when I've come up behind motorbike riders.

But as you can see, when you have a rider on a really top bike, it's hard to compete, especially under acceleration.

- Before doing this video with us, what did you expect the difference to be?

- I didn't expect such a difference.

50 seconds over 2.4km, that's a lot. But I did my best, and I have no regrets

I got my revenge in the free-wheeling race

I thought the bike would be further ahead, but in the end it was only 15 seconds, so it was actually quite close.

- OK Matt, we kind of expected this victory. In your view, is the Street the best bike for this challenge?

- To be quite honest, yes.

It's got a great chassis, it's agile, it's light and since they've gone up to 800cc,

the engine has more power at low revs but also has good consistent power through the revs.

The shifter, the brakes, the front section, everything is great.

- We didn't give him a chance, poor guy.

- But even on a GT we would have thrashed him.

-Well,I need to finish this test, see you guys.

- Thanks

Delighted to have shut up our colleagues at Le Cycle magazine once and for all,

we headed home on the Street RS.

And we started to realise that it's pretty tough to find any flaws with this bike.

As for a lot sports roadsters, the protection is not fantastic,

it only takes passengers as a last resort

and the use of this type of bike is pretty limited since it's mainly designed as a high performance machine.

And then there's the price, €11,600, that's €2,500 more expensive than its immediate rivals.

But Triumph found a solution by offering 3 other less well-equipped, less powerful and less expensive models.

An R version costs €10,200, an S version for €8,900 and an S version suitable for the A2 licence for €8,500.

But there's just one issue. After clocking up miles and miles of winding roads like a maniac,

"Damn, I wasn't looking at the dash, we're out of fuel.

-Ha ha you, jokes on you now!

On the new Triumph Street Triple RS, we loved:

The efficiency of the bike,

the early avaible engine and the performance he proposes,

the very clean finishes,

the versatility for a sporty roadster

and the nice and clear dashboard.

We did not loved:

The price of the RS version

and the noise from the exhaust during long distances
