Chasing Waterfalls in Chiapas, Mexico OVERLAND TRAVEL SAGA Ep.32 - Duration: 17:06.

Previously on The Traveling Together Journal

We finally get out of the city,

and enjoyed some outdoor adventures

before widening our way from central Oaxaca to the state of Chiapas.

We left this morning from the hotel on the side of the highway San Rafael and

drove into the state of Chiapas, and we are currently at Cascadas el Aquacero

and we're going to descend I guess down to where there's some waterfalls and

we're going to hike through a river.

Jaeger you want to go for a hike?

Ruf, ruf (yes!)

Yeah?

Yes, yes, yes, ruff, ruff, ruff

Wow, this place is super pretty!

Camera's never do nature justice.

Jaeger is all about that water. He is like "oh yeah".

Brown bear in his native environment.

I feel like we got to climb it.

We got to get up there and check it out.

Let's got!

I don't think I can get up this part.

Alright, we got up here. Now we got to get back down.

We're making our way back up from the river, and it is a lot of steps.

It's over 700 steps I'm pretty sure, and it is still way easier than all that hiking we

were trying to do north of Oaxaca. Those high elevations, and it was totally worth it.

That River was one of the coolest rivers I've ever been to.

Absolutely stunning.

Like waterfalls all over the place, and just like dragonflies, and birds, and butterflies,

and the water was like the perfect temperature, and it was all sand bottom

not like all mud and stuff like most rivers. So it was super fun just to like

trek up the river. Very cool. Very worth the stop, so far I think it's worth the

climb back up.

We left the really stunning beautiful Cascadas el Agua Cerro this morning

after hanging out for a few hours there. We're on our way to El Chiflon

this is one of those places that I've been dreaming about since back in Maui.

I've been following a lot of people on Instagram and this is like one of those

things where you see photographs like most overlanders end up at this place at

some point and the photographs are just super cool. So, I'm excited and looking

forward to El Chiflon.

Oh, this guys is backing up anyways.

Matt how's your driving day going today?

Not very good. I'm letting all the stuff get to me.

So we had to go through a big city, and I hate cities. I hate driving in cities,

and then Chiapas just loves speed bumps. And they're really into the kind that

are like square, like they're more like a parking curb and then a speed bump.

So you have to like slow down to nothing to like crawl over them, and then they don't

like to just put in a speed bump where they want you to slow down.

They put in like six just in a row.

So it's starting to get pretty annoying, and now our road is deteriorating and we

got a bunch of pot holes. Anyway there's not a speed bump there's a pothole.

One more hour Matt. One more hour. You can hold it together can't ya?

Yeah it's fine.

Normally I like, feel like I do a pretty good job of not letting all that kind of

stuff bother me, but maybe just because we've been driving more in the last couple days

and then... like I'm trying to get us somewhere before it gets dark again.

So it's just kind of like when you're

actually trying to drive a little bit faster it's more annoying.

But we'll get there.

Jag's shut-up.

We've arrived at El Chiflon and we went with the cheaper of the two options for camping.

There's one where we're at and then there's another campground on the

other side, and now we are looking for rocks, because the parking lot is not

even it's not set up for truck campers. It's set up to like park here and then go

and hike to where you can camp right on the river. So if we wanted to like camp

in our tent we could get a pretty sweet spot, but we don't have camping mats so

we have a tent but no camping mats. Anyways, we're over here just trying to

find some good rocks put under the tires.

I have a new routine I'm trying to make happen.

It's Spanish and coffee. So I have coffee every single morning and I kind

of just prefer to just chill and not really do too much.

So I've been trying to study Spanish,

and while I'm studying Spanish.

Matt is fixing up some projects that we've got.

We got that light, which is right there, and he's wiring it up.

This is our fuse block for our camper, and I luckily have one remaining spot for

another line so just wiring up our lights so that it'll

have a fuse on it. We don't burn out our system.

And I put in a switch so that we can turn them on and off from inside, and so we just hit the little switch.

And the light out there is on.

It's like a little mini tarantula.

Oh no.

Now it lives inside of our awning.

What are you working on Matt.

I'm making us some cables to lock up our

stuff, because we like to keep all this stuff outside since that's where our

living space is, but I always feel nervous about leaving it outside.

So this way we can lock it to the truck.

The other thing we did is lock our solar panels to

the frame of the truck.

Getting a pretty late start to going and looking at El Chiflon.

We had a lot of projects that had been building up and we didn't even get our laundry done.

This is one of the first theme parks, natural theme parks that

Jaegers been allowed in. Most of them say no dogs.

Mexico has had a surprising number of these well-established like natural

attraction kind of places with these like concrete walking paths and stuff like that.

Which is always a little bit of a downer for me, because we always come to

these kind of things to like see the nature and the beauty, but there's always

undoubtedly going to be like a bunch of pipes and stuff running along the side

of the river, but it's still probably overall a positive since it makes it so

more people are able to come here and the local Ejido can make some money and

conserve a Natural Area. So, and we still get to come see it and waterfalls are

still pretty cool.

What's really crazy about this waterfall is that there is another one on top of this one.

And there are more lower ones too

And yeah there is defiantly, it just keeps going and going.

This waterfall is on top of a waterfall that's on top of a bigger waterfall, on top of a bunch of small waterfalls.

That's a lot of waterfalls.

It was a lot of stairs.

It's a lot of stairs.

It's day 139 of travel for us, and we are leaving El Chiflon in the state of Chiapas

and headed to some lakes, rivers, hiking, hike to other lakes thing.

We don't know what it's called. We don't know how long it's gonna take us to get there.

The telephone GPS are not working. We haven't had any service for a while. So we are getting a

nice early start and we will end up somewhere.

Sounds like a plan

As you might have guessed, President Donald J. Trump � the subject of one the biggest

political hit jobs in the history of the republic � was none too happy about the findings

of the House Intelligence Committee contained in the so-called �FISA memo� released

on Friday.

�I think it�s terrible,� Trump said, as quoted by The Associated Press. �You

want to know the truth. I think it�s a disgrace. What�s going on in this country, I think

it�s a disgrace.�

As reported by NewsTarget, the memo reveals �serial abuses of the Foreign Intelligence

Surveillance Court by upper echelon officials in the FBI and Justice Department to prevent

[Trump] from becoming president, and to undermine him after he defeated Hillary Clinton in November

2016.�

The four-page memo goes on, noting that Clinton, several U.S. media outlets, top-ranking figures

within DOJ and FBI including some that are still serving, and others conspired to create

a bogus �dossier� full of false and salacious charges that purportedly came from Russian

�sources,� and then pretend it was a legitimate intelligence document in order to secure a

top-secret surveillance warrant so the Obama regime could spy on the Trump campaign. (Related:

Trump out of the White House)

These same people knew that the dossier � which was paid for by the Clinton campaign through

a third-party law firm (because ol� Hill is so cloak-and-dagger) � was just a political

document, not real intelligence.

So yes, it certainly is a �disgrace� all of this happened.

But it goes much deeper than that. It�s also criminal. At least it has been so far

for Carter Page, the principal Trump campaign official put under surveillance by political

appointees and others within the DOJ and FBI. And former national security advisor Michael

Flynn, indicted and convicted of �lying� to the FBI. And others caught up in this web

of deceit.

There is no other choice for the president: He must fire Robert Mueller, who�s appointment

was also based on this same bogus information, and he must pardon Flynn and Page since they

were ensnared in a political, not intelligence, operation.

She's got something special. She didn't want to tell me what it was so what are we going to preparing for our friends today?

Today we want to be making cauliflower the exact cauliflower pizza

That's what I said when she first told me cauliflower pizza because I didn't believe it to be too because I would love to have

guilt free pleasure

Pizza and if it's with cauliflower, then I know I'm gonna be guilt free after I eat this

But I just didn't understand really how we were going to make a pizza with

Cauliflower so can you make some sense of this for us, so we're going to be using the cauliflower rice?

Some shredded Parmesan cheese as the crust and then we're going to top it as we wish so we're going to use some sauce

Some mushrooms some peppers some olives and some

turkey bacon pepperoni

It's only a fraction of the calories of regular pizza

So what's first?

how do we get this into the oven so first what we're going to do is we're going to combine the keys the

Cauliflower rice and the egg and a mixing bowl what we want to do is measure 1 cup of cauliflower rice

And then we're going to put it in the microwave for about five to six minutes

So we're gonna go with one now, okay. We've got one cup of cauliflower

Perfect I'm we're gonna add 1/8

Now we've got some mozzarella cheese that is matzah matzah cheese, yes, we got 1/2 a cup half a cup, okay great

looking to take for some time in terms of professionalisation.

One of the attractive things for us was that Tasmanian Police

had already developed that strong relationship with

the University of Tasmania and that the processes were already

in place for us to move very quickly into a pilot situation,

which is what we did in 2017.

We found that other jurisdictions were interested in

the type of partnership that we have with Tasmania Police.

They're seeing the rewards of having their officers go

through these programs and learn to become, you know, critical,

broad minded people, as well as really

excellent operational officers. There's a lot to be gained out

of a professional honours degree like this.

We've had really positive responses from our applicants

and we are expanding our pilot for another 12 to 18 months

to include not only our future inspectors but also our

future senior sergeants. The University of Tasmania

provides us with a great stepping stone and a great

platform from which we can develop our future leaders and

to take them through a high level education that was in line

with both Victoria Police's needs

for leadership and management, and also incident

and emergency management, but then also allowed the people

that undertook the program to then do other elective work

in furtherance of their skills to be senior managers

at Victoria Police, and we're hoping that this partnership

with the University of Tasmania will go a long way towards

developing the new leaders that Victoria Police needs

to take us into the next century.
